Sarcastic attitude makes his humor hilarious. Very clear teacher, and helpful when you run into trouble on an assignment.
Stan is the most laid back teacher I've ever had. He does all but tell you the answers to the test question. He made the class fun.
Stan knows his subject, and he has a laid back comfortable style. You will enjoy this class!!
Stan Spencer's CS 12 class was uncomplicated and streightforward, but required a degree of personal effort into learning the material. Detailed class discussions about source code. I learned a lot about TiVo too
tivo is all he talks about and is a big lakers fan, sit up there and does powerpoint, not bad easy teacher but not enough enthusiasm in his class...
Stan is a****ty teacher. He's easy because he teaches easy classes. He doesn't try at all. He just talks about Tivo and his ex-girlfriends all day long, lecturing maybe 30 minutes per class. If you want to learn something, dont take his classes.
Stan's the man. His class was great, and if you do the work you'll learn the subject. he's pretty funny, and WAY laid back. His class was one of my favorites, ever.
he made fun of a guy to his face. its okay they dude deserved it. he was an ok teacher. wasnt that fun, but if you do the assignments you'll learn. Yes he talks about his exes. I took his class about 3 years ago.
this guy SUCKED!!!! all i learned about was his stupid ass tivo and his former career in construction. he would talk about the subject matter for about 15 minuites and then assign a lab. it was pointless and a total waste of my time!!!
Did not learn a thing in class. Second the Tivo, girlfriends, and not learning too much about the material. Cool class though, if you are "self taught"
Funny. You better be a good self teacher though. If you need help though he knows his stuff. Dont have to show up to class as long as you turn in your work via FTP. Labs are easy as long as you know a little about java. Only 2 tests that account for 60% of grade. They are super easy. easy A.
If you need this class, take it from Mr. Spencer. The course starts simple with a foundation and builds from there. Good labs that will prepare you for exams. If you studied at all the tests were excellent. You would have to be a moron to get a D or less. Pretty smart to get an A. If you tried a C.
He has a unique and effective style of teaching. He tries to make Java less boring by getting the class to participate in discussions. Yes he does get off of the subject matter, but that is was makes this class interesting.
Stan was by far, on eof the better teachers I have ever had! I would reccomend his course to anyone!! I have read what some people have said about him -- you either like someone or you don't! I liked him... he is cool and helpful!

As a teacher, he sucks. Think of him more as a knowledgable consultant. It is up to the students to learn and he can care less if you pass. His tangents are humourous. If you are looking for easy credits and some entertainment take his class. If you are looking for a babysitter that lectures ad nauseum about syllabi then take a class from Perry Edwards.
Stan is a excellent teacher. Doesn't make the class boring and repetative. I would highly recommend him.
Don't take the online class. Absolute confusion.
dont even consider taking the online class
I took the online class and I understand that some people had a hard time with it because in reality you are reading the book and taking the quizzes on a website in addition to his own tests and quizzes, which are in the same database as the website's, but if you ever needed help there was a discussion board that he answered quickly, very helpful.
If you want to learn Economics, dont take this class. All he does is disagree with the book HE picked out, and ramble on about Direct TV and American Idol. Nice guy, but the class is a joke.
all tests are open- everything, super easy!
I took this course online & it was a joke. He only uses blackboard for the DB & quizzes; all of the other homework is on another website that makes you take down all your computer security in order to get on & use it. In my opinion, he wasn't very helpful and the secondary website was a hassle.
AWESOME Teacher!! maybe not everyone's cup of tea - take his class if you are an out of the box thinker. Stay away if you are a conformist. DO NOT TAKE ONLINE CLASS- it requires a LOT of extra homework. Furthermore, having perfect attendance MAY push your grade from an 87-89% up to an A. He does stray off topic, but class would be boring otherwise!
Online class, easy. I think what really made it helpful was the books online website where all homework and classwork was done. quiz every week. If you read the book and take great notes, you will do fine. The website work will probably let you know how well you will do on your quizzes and tests. Easy, got an A and am majoring in Econ.
Stan was easily one of my favorite teachers at sierra. He makes the class idiot proof and actually challenges people to critically think about the material they are leaning instead of just going over it. The class isnt boring and he includes about a 1/2 hour of current topics like t.v. or music. I Highly recommened this class!
Weekly online Exams 20pts. Get three attempts. 3 finals 120 pts open book and note. 600 pts total. No HW assignments. Easy B but for the A youll need to work a little harder. Highly reccomend getting the Discover Econ Supplemental online material. He uses questions from there on exams. Also great practice for understanding concepts.
Tests and quizzes are easy. Open book and open note. Interesting at times, but very left. Lets the class get off topic, makes jokes. Attendance is not required.
Spends most of the class talking about TV. First day of class Stan said that nothing that he talks about in class will be on the test. Test completly from the book. tons of quiz, boring lectures. Very easy to pass the class. Do not take if you are serious about Econ. I didn't learn any Econ from Stan, just learned how to beat his system to pass.
If you want to lower your gpa take this class. Just don't ask for any help, or lectures or you test back. Book is a lot of money. Second book just use the internet.
He is quite liberal in the political sector and he loves to 'enlighten' his students with his views. I did get an A but I put a lot of time into it (3-6 hrs/wk). He is funny and does make the class interesting. If you're serious about succeeding, he'll be right there to help in any way.
I took his online Econ 1A class and it was great. You have numerous chances to take the quizzes each week and the exams are not hard as long as you study. I recommend taking his class. I learned a lot and liked his teaching style.
I took online class and he has it set up so you know when everything is due (1 quiz per week) and a few exams throughout the semester. If you do the work and understand the theories an A isn't too hard to get.
Class is pretty simple and easy. Like 6 online quiz's that you can take up to 3 times and 3 exams in class but they are open book and notes. Theres no hw so all your points come from quiz's and exams. The class can be pretty boring considering he just lecturing the whole time but it's an easy A.
open note, open book test, online quizzes! only quizzes and tests but he said he's going to add required book for more of reading assignments in the future. easy B since even tho it is open book test, you still have to fully understand stuff in order to get good grades. he does not take a participation rolls.(he only did for first month or so)
Participation does not matter in the class, why? Everything is on canvas. He just reiterates everything on his power point. Just have the books he requests and its an easy A. Its all quizzes online and tests. Piece of cake, I was in class for like a couple weeks out of the whole semester and I almost got an A.
Easy class as long as you read the material.
He's a good guy, but hardest class I've had so far. First B I have received in college.
He's an interesting character. But the lectures get very boring at times. My class was nearly never engaged when he would lecture. Talks about his own views on Econ, which isn't very bad. Has a couple online quizzes which are a breeze. And a couple exams which he changes so they don't match the online ones. Read the material and you should be fine.
Econ is a really hard subject to keep people who aren't majoring in it interested, but Stan is by far the coolest teacher I've had here at Sierra.
Nice Guy - a little goofy. All in all the class is easy you'll pass with little effort and if you want an A its still pretty easy. He is very liberal but not obnoxious.
professor spencer is a very kind, easy going guy. He's very knowledgeable and discussion topics are sometimes interesting. However, his lectures are very long. Not one single homework assignment. BUT HIS TESTS ARE HARD. I sat in the the front, came to every class, took notes, studied properly for exams, and still had a difficult time.
If you know how to study then having him as your teacher is a breeze.
If you take one of his econ classes and struggle with it, it's probably because you never showed up to class or took any of the quizzes and exams. He makes it so easy it's almost a joke. And he knows it. Open book, open note, open anything that isn't electronic on all exams. Online quizzes. No final. You'd have to actually try to fail to do bad.
Nice professor who knows his material well. He gives 3 exams and the people who don't do well are probably the ones who don't show up until test day.
Really smart guy, and funny in a strange way. Lectures are very engaging and entertaining, it's interesting to learn economics from a teacher who spends so much time openly criticizing the textbook and economics as a subject. Tests and quizzes are based on lectures and reading material, and it's open note/book. Print ppts!
graded only on tests and quizzes, the only homework is that you read but it is not necessary.
6 quizzes that can be taken twice, 3 exams that are open note. That's it. Stan has a different take on econ, so this class was much more interesting than the standard. He does a good job of teaching all sides. He moves quickly through the lecture but the notes are online and can be printed out and brought to the exam. Very easy, very interesting.
Prof. Spencer is one of he best professors I have ever had. 6 short and simple quizzes and 3 exams. All multiple choice. Just study his lecture notes (ppt slides) and you are good!! Took 1A with him and without any doubt I'm gonna take 1B with him.
Great professor. No hw. He is realy nice teacher.
Mr. Spencer is definitely one of my favorite professors. You are graded on online quizzes and three in-class exams. He definitely gives you all the tools for an A. His lectures are interesting to say the least. Keep an open mind in his class! You will learn more than just plain economics.
Prof. Spencer will sometimes waste like 20-30 minutes just talking about basketball which I had no problem with! One thing I wasn't too crazy about was how fast he'll talk about certain topics & hit the next slide. PPT slides available on canvas which we're allowed t print out as well as previous quizzes & use them on exams. It's easily passable!
Professor Spencer gives grades based on 3 Exams, and 6 online quizzes. No homework to turn in, except read chapters. It was an okay class, wasn't too hard or too easy. If you skip class you will probably still pass with a good grade if you read all the chapters at home, but he does have some exam questions based on lecture.
Makes this class really easy by giving no homework, 6 online quizzes that you get 2 attempts at each, and only 3 test which you can use any material you have printed (i.e. quizzes, his powerpoint slides, textbooks). He's got a sense of humor that makes his lectures interesting. Shares his political views throughout which are pretty liberal.
Awesome Professor, totally recommend him! No homework, 6 quizes & 3 exams all open notes provided by prof! He is verrryy different than your average professor where he shows you reality versus what the book thinks is 'reality'. And the book he uses is free online.
6 online quizzes and 3 exams make up your grade. You get 2 tries on the quizzes and you can print out his powerpoints and use them for the exam.
One of the best teachers in Sierra College
The whole class is lecture based but Stan makes it fun. He really cares about the subject and seems to enjoy feedback from students. This could have been a really boring class, but Stan made me love economics!
Has 6 quizzes total and 3 exams, attendance is not mandatory, but it definitely helps test scores
There is 0 extra credit. All it is is quizzes and exams. If you're not a "Good tester" then skip this class. I studied, read all the material, but it was very difficult. He doesn't make the quizzes or tests easy for you. It is open book but I tried really hard and barely passed. I like the guy but this class was a struggle.
Wears the same white shirt & drinks the same tea everyday. 3 Open note tests & 6 online quizzes sums up the class.
Great teacher!!!
There are 3 exams that are all open note and 6 quizzes that are done online at home. The tests are straightforward and come directly from the power points. Print out the power points and bring them on test day and you will get a good grade. I did not go to many lectures and did just fine in the class. The internet is your friend for the quizzes!
There are only 6 quizzes and 3 exams, but the quizzes are online (and he gives you 2 attempts) and the exams are open note/open book! He was really cool and it's easy to get an A in his class. You don't have to go to class after the first few classes, but it helps to listen to his lectures!
If I could rate Professor Spencer's class as a "zero" for difficulty, I would. EVERYTHING is open note, yes even the in class TESTS. Although, he is far left he is not an SJW. He does not try to convert you, he only harmlessly states his opinions. He also tries hard to connect to his class, which is appreciated. Take it for the easiest A EVER.
Not too bad of a professor. He only grades quizzes and exams. So make sure to get 20/20 on those quizzes and youll be fine. You have 2 attempts at quizzes btw. The textbook isnt needed unless you want it. He always says the textbook is wrong anyway. Hes funny and kind of awkward. Not the best professor Ive had but definitely not the worst.
Solid choice for an Econ1A professor. His class is pretty easy. 2 attempts on all the quizzes and open book/notes for exams. Hes entertaining when he lectures. He always says the textbook is wrong. So dont buy it. Youll never use it.
His class is a piece of cake, with open note exams and online quizzes you can take twice. He offers a different point of view than typical Econ professors; I think it's important to hear information from all schools of thought. He is super facetious & hilarious & I really enjoyed his class! And attendance is only mandatory until the drop date!
Very straightforward and incredibly easy class, don't even gotta go to class. Grades are on three exams and six quizzes, both open note. Print out the powerpoints and you'll be good. He has strong opinions and left leaning if that matters to you--as in, he actually sees the growing wealth gap..
Don't even need to show up to class. I would take his 1A and 1B at the same time, the first couple of weeks are the same so you only have to take the 1st test once. All 6 quizzes are online and all 4 tests are in class, everything is open note! Just print out the powerpoints thats all the lecture is anyway. Don't buy the book, can get away w/o it.
Decent class because the grading is straight forward but the lectures are dry and slide heavy. He allows 2 chances on online quizzes which helps.
He is very left leaning and he makes that VERY clear. You don't need to buy the book or show up to class. The class consists of 6 quizzes with 2 attempts which are all online and 4 Exams which are in class and open note. No extra credit. Show up to the class period before each exam for review and print our his slides and you'll do fine on the exams
Decent professor and class, but too much lecture for my liking and no homework to do other than quizzes every other week. It's relatively easy, but would not recommend for tactile learners. If you are a auditory and/or visual learner you'll be okay. The two attempts per quiz is a plus.
If you need to take Econ, definitely take him!! His class is all lectures which are pretty boring, but you could not come to any class except the review and exam days and still get a B. There were quizzes every two weeks with 2 attempts so its easy to get 100 on those. Exams were pretty hard and required you to actually study, but very doable.
One of the funniest and most interesting people I have met. I never thought that I'd look forward to micro-economics lectures like I did. Highly recommend taking any of his classes. He brings a phenomenal energy, passion and sense of humor to his courses.
Tongue in Cheek is an excellent way to describe Spencer. He's very left leaning and will state his opinion fairly obviously, however, he does show most sides. His lectures are a bit dull but they are sprinkled with humor. His tests are open note (even final). Solid choice for econ.
If you're looking for an easy A, Spencer is your guy. Just show up to class and pay attention. No need to buy the textbook or read, cause he literally tells you everything you need to know during lectures or on review day. Had a total of 3 tests and online quizzes every couple of weeks. Both are open book, open note. Would recommend.
Dry sense of humor, super dry. Very liberal leaning , interesting to see that side of economics. Believe it or not he actually wants students to understand something. Tests are open book but if you think you will sit down on test day and that is the first time you ever saw them, you wont be the first to fail. Overall easy class good teacher.
TAKE HIM FOR ECON 1A and 1B AT THE SAME TIME!!! The first third of his class is the same information, so you can just show up to one class and get the information needed for both classes. He has 3 exams and 6 quizzes. He is super liberal in what he teaches. Even though I don't agree with a lot of what he says, he is perhaps the easiest econ teacher
Context is everything and don't trust 90% of economists. There, I just told you the thesis of 32 weeks of Stan's econ classes. Also, here's a tip for you. On quizzes, the answer that favors positive results from more left leaning ideologies/ theories, is probably the correct one. Overall, Stan is a heavily left leaning, easy , good professor.
Love him, he curved the grades! Take him guys, every quiz is from the extra material he provide. But make sure to give it a thorough reading!
One of my best teachers by far! Non-biased on the different forms of economics, you choose which form to believe in; teaches evenly. You don't have to read the textbook or go to class, just follow those great lectures, though you might not get an A. I wish I had this class the whole semester before it was switched online, but even online was good.
Spencer assigns only what he deems necessary, which is a handful of quizzes, some tests, and almost no homework. His class was lecture heavy, and for the most part I found them generally disengaging. However, there were moments of some clever dry humor. If you miss class sometimes you'll be fine. Also he leans far left culturally and economically.
Stan is an amazing professor. He gives great lectures and the assigned readings are easy to complete as long as you schedule time for them. When it comes to quizzes and tests it is extremely important to understand the readings, and lectures. Id review the lectures right before the test so it can refresh all other information. Take him!
There isn't much work in this class, but it is pretty heavy work in general. About 6 exams and 6 quizzes, but they are both 20 questions each respectively. The easiest way to pass is to save the lecture powerpoints, and just watch the videos and take notes. Super easy, great class.
The class is broken down into 6 modules throughout the semester. Each module has a few chapter readings and lecture videos, after each module you will take a quiz and an exam on the material. If you watch the lectures and take notes on the handouts that are provided, the quizzes and exams are very easy.
This is my 2nd time taking a course w him, and it was even easier than the first time. Save your notes from 1A for 1B, because some material is covered again. If you put in the time for notes and lectures, your grade will show it. Quizzes and exams are covered with material from lectures and power points. My favorite prof, so far, take him!
did not really post good lectures. the tests and quizzes were much harder than thought. only have tests and quizzes for the entire semester no other assignments and no extra credit. not bad but wouldn't recommend un less you like that kind of work
There was a total of 6 exams and 6 quizzes and no assignments or extra credit. He was honestly really nice and overall one of my easiest classes. Tests were pretty easy also. If you are looking for a lightweight class you should definitely take this class.
I LOVE THIS MAN. He's the best professor I've taken thus far at Sierra, and just... a complete gem. His lectures are hilarious, he's got the best dry humor and explains things well. Also, he'll extend due dates for exams/hw as needed. I've taken both of his Econ classes, and my only regret is that I'm not able to take one of his classes in person.
The professor is really nice and understanding. The work only included 6 exams and 6 quizzes. I would recommend this class and professor. He was super cool and I wish I got to take this class in person.
He gives 6 exams and 6 quizzes but all the questions are in his PowerPoint so make sure to go over them if you don't have time to watch his lectures. Also, there isn't any other graded work other than quizzes and tests so make sure you are prepared.
I took Econ1A and 1B with this professor. This class is an easy A. Basically every 2-3 weeks he opens up a module, in that module you watch lecture videos and follow along with a powerpoint, take some notes on those lectures and take the quiz an exam for each module, if you watched the videos you will pass. 6 quizzes and 6 exams. Thats it.
Loved Spencer. You get the lectures pre recorded and watch them whenever you want over 2-3 weeks before 1 quizz (2 attempts) and 1 exam after. If you watch all the lectures (1.5x speed for me) and take few notes, you'll get an A. LOVED the class.
Very Simple and easy course. All the other reviews are true, just one quiz and lecture every 2-3 weeks for credit, no required hw. Econ/Business majors, this is the class you want, trust me.
His lecture videos are informative and the quizzes and exams reflect what was in the videos. Everything was straightforward. Just take notes print or copy the graphs and you'll be good, I don't think I even opened up the textbooks at all this semester.
loved his class. You just have to watch lectures for 2-3 weeks you have 1 quizz with 2 attempts, and 1 exam 1 attempt. that's it. No discussions, no projects, no essays. Just overall 6 multiple choices quizzes and 6 overall multiple choices exams. That's it. He assigns a book to read but you don't have to read it cause he goes over it in lectures.
Loved Professor Spencer! Only thing I was graded on was 6 quizzes (20 points each) and 6 exams (40 points), and that's it! Nothing else was graded, which I found to be very easy to work with, but there is reading and lectures to do. He was very flexible with due dates and the course fits well with busy schedules. Open book open note testing
Do not take this professor if you are wanting an in-person class. He tells you the first day that everything is online and that attendance is not mandatory. Other than that the class is very easy. Lecture heavy but you have decent time to get everything done. No midterm or final, just the normal quiz and exam for the module.
Great professor, understanding and knows how to lecture.
Hilarious in person. Learned a lot from his lectures. Explained everything well and simple, making sure it was easy to understand. Tests are not bad at all, as long as you pay attention.
Honestly SUCH an amazing professor. He reshaped how I view economics. It's a fairly easy class if you pay attention to the lectures. Ton of dad jokes but it makes a pretty dense topic interesting. If you can, take him!!!
I took Stan's Econ 1A and 1B. Very similar. He is open about disagreeing with some of the ideas in the textbook and teaches multiple approaches to thinking about economics. You are only graded on tests, 12 in total. Tests were easy as long as you watched all the video lectures online. In-class time was optional, mainly for clarifying questions.
THE best economics professor you will ever take. He invites you to rethink everything you previously knew about econ and gives an entirely new perspective. Lectures are best listened to at 1.5x speed. Online course format was very straightforward. Lectures are peppered with dad humor. Honestly an amazing guy, I really wish I took him in-person. 5/5
Easy A, just watch the lecture videos and take quizes and exams.
You take your exams and quizzes and that is truly it! For some the lack of work may cause confusion with the topic but being able to focus on all other classes every other week until the quiz and exam go live is super helpful.
6 exams & 6 quizzes total, literally the only thing ur graded on. watch the lecture videos because they'll help u understand the material WAY BETTER (2x speed cuz he talks slow). Mildly funny moments sometimes. Read thru each module and its an easy A.
I learned nothing. I figured out after the first unit that you don't have to do any of the reading to pass the test. Just print out the powerpoint handouts and have them nearby to take notes on while you watch the lecture videos. Tests and quizzes are the only graded things and they're open notes. I crocheted the entire time I watched the videos.
I mean... it's an easy A but in all honesty, I didn't have to read the textbook and mainly relied on the lectures (watched at 1.5x speed) and PowerPoints. Lectures can be boring but literally.. you're given two to three weeks to read/watch the lecture material and then do a quiz (2 attempts) and an exam. That's it. No extra assignments. Easy A.
Easiest A of my life. No assignments just a quiz and test every 2-3 weeks. 2 attempts for quiz, 1 for exam. All mcq. All of the answers can be found on google/quizlet. He doesn't care if you cheat and im assuming hes aware everyone does as his class is setup so easily. Please take him. You won't even realize youre taking the class lol
I took this class that was supposed to be in person and on the first day of class he tells us it's legit an online class because he can make the lectures longer. This class is easy and you don't have to do the reading to pass the tests just the slide shows and google. This class isn't what I expected so you might struggle if you are business major.
This class was extremely easy and straightforward. Essentially, he gives us videos and chapters to study for an exam and quiz (which are open book!) that are assigned to us every 2-3 weeks. 6 quizzes and 6 exams in total, no useless busy work (very demure and mindful). I 100% recommend.
Great experience overall, I truly felt I learned a lot in Professor Spencer's class and the work load was very manageable which is always a great thing for me. Easy to know what was expected week by week no big curveballs.
Online class is pretty easy; I do recommend watching the lecture videos and taking notes on important ideas since the exams are based on the lectures. You have two chances to take the quizzes. As a STEM major, I recommend taking this GE it makes your workload easier, you only have a quiz and exam every 2 weeks and only watch lecture notes.
This class is a breeze - just watch the engaging lectures (at 1.5x if needed) and you're set. For extra prep, try using Unstuck ai alongside the slides and textbook. Easy A, would take again.
The nicest Econ professor I've ever had!
He's a good professor. I had him for an online microeconomics course. Super easy class. he separates his modules into weeks, with steps that you need to complete for the tests. Gives 4 extra days to complete the quiz and exams after their due date. No midterms or finals. I recommend him, especially online.
