Great prof. Makes history exciting and not a hard grad either... Ask him about the long hair in France..lol
Great prof. He made History fun. just be careful asking about anything, phrase your questions properly.
He gave me inspiration. I had to work hard in his class but it was enjoyable and paid off.
He is an excellent teacher and inspired me to becmae the teacher i am today...thanks prof.
Good professor. Take lots of notes, you'll need them. He is a wealth of knowledge. Watch out for his corny jokes though, he uses them all semester.
He has tought me SO much about history it isn't even funny! his tests are very fair and he tells you waht will be on them. You have a choice of 4 essays or muilpule choice! He's a great professor TAKE A LOT OF NOTES! or you'll fail the class
This guy is a character. He makes some corny jokes, but he is real cool.He has a great sense of humor and he knows everything! This guy has been everywhere also. His tests are all essays. You pick 1 out of 8.
very dry humor, researches history from many different sources.
one of the best will spend one on one time to help you understand subject a rarity in college
GREAT TEACHER! HE IS VERY KNOWLEDGABLE!
tests were too unspecific and very easy to fail.
this guy comes off as a hard ass at first, but he turns out to be real cool and is a easy test grader.
This guy is awsome. He tries to be funny, which he's not lol, but he is one of the most knowledgable professor's I have ever come across. He has been just about all over the world, ask him about any place and he knows it. This guy's the man!
Very intelligent man. Speaks kind of fast so it can be hard taking notes. If you read the book and catch the notes you'll be fine. There is a lot to learn but the subject is interesting. I would take him again
He is so horrible, he mumbles, you don't know what to write down in the notes, and since he's such a abd teacher you would think he knows that and grades easier on the tests but he doesn't, he grades so hard even though he doesn't teach a thing
he very nice guy, but if you like writing essay you'll like. he think that he is funny.
all he did was talk, he had no visuals or anything.
If you work your butt off you'll only get a B+ - the same as the other people who both cheated on tests and did nothing in the class. Alexander is very full of himself - why, I have no idea! I would definitely NOT take him. All he wants to do is hear himself talk. Nasty man!!!
"Any questions. Any requests for clarification...?"
Friggin loved him !!! I thought he was a funny **** ... The class was easy to me ... But then again I love history .... LOVED HIM !!!
i like the class more now, than i did a couple weeks ago. the teacher is cool, but somtimes boring. he has some pretty lame, but bright things to say. if you have him.. plan on hearing "are there any questions. Any requests for clarifications...?" at least 35 times.... a day.
"any questions? and request for clarification?" and if you DO have questions, he doesn't tell you the answer, he just tells you an irrelevant story... i didn't like him at all and the grading isn't very fair.
yeah dont take this guy, hes wack
Do not take him for history! Horrible teacher!
"Any Questions? Any Requests for clarification?" Yea if only he really cared! Hes just covering his own ass because hes a HORRIBLE professor although Im sure he'll never think so. All he does is lecture so if u dont learn well like that, ur screwed! He is very boring & unfair when grading considering he doesn't teach u much. This guy should be fired
I loved him. He's very sarcastic, jokes around alot. His class is ALL lecture though. Only a few tests and 1 essay so the course load is not bad at all. He has so much experiance too, he's been to all the places he talks about which is interesting. Overall a really nice man and a great professor at Suffolk. Definitely take him.
he has some good insight because he has travelled around the world. he is very full of himself. all he does is lecture with no visuals. he just rambles on and on. not really any homework. i wouldnt suggest taking him. very boring.
Very nice man! do the work and you'll pass bottom line...no tricks tells you exactly what u have to do... u have the test 3 weeks in advance how can you fail? just ask questions and write down lectures...only thing i wish i did was NOT buy the books b/c you never use them*
Very smart great class
anyone who takes good notes and uses the review sheet for the essay tests will get a good grade. very amusing teacher, has lots of odd bits of history. he has a lot of info to offer n will always answer any question u have. dont bother buying the book if u can pay attention in class. very bad puns, but its amusing nonetheless.
great teacher, amusing, makes jokes...a little boring but very easy...all you need to do to do well in this class is read and answer the questions on the review sheets for the tests he gives out...don't buy the book you do not need it
DONT BUY THE BOOK. Attend all his classes and take good notes. keep the exam review sheets in mind while taking notes. His class is boring but its a easy grade. No quizzes only 2 exams and a final and a paper.
horrible
Great Professor. Don't buy the books, he talks the entire class. First words of every class "Are there any questions?" "Any request for clarification". Likes to make corny jokes, but otherwise great. All test were essay form, not hard but you MUST take good notes.Anything that he repeats constantly is guaranteed to be on the test. Do not sass him.
"famous first words: aaaaaaare there any questions.. any requests for clarification.."
Good teacher, nice guy. Wouldn't you rather have a teacher that makes bad puns than a boring one. Ohh yeah, and buy the book because even if you don't need it to pass you might learn something.
Very boring and don't buy any of the books you will never use them
Took him for west civ I, he's very monotone but wakes you up with puns that are so corny you can't help but laugh. He explains everything in detail as many times as you need. The tests are all essay but very easy. There's only 3 and one paper. I got an A. Have a coffee before class, it's a continuous lecture and take good notes.
all over the place
HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR YOU WILL EVER HAVE! He is a COMPLETE bore!He waits the the VERY last second to do attendance and it takes him AT LEAST 10 minutes to do because he makes stupid jokes the entire time about peoples names. like one girls name sounded like hall so he was like "Oh your here I looked in the hall for you" hahaha Hilarious!!! :-/
easy class... just sit there and you dont even have to take notes.. def. a boring class... but tests are all essays and is an easy grader.. id take him again. i hate history and im glad i got him
Alexander is one of those teachers that you just have to take excellent notes for. He will occasionally write a drawing on the board once in a blue moon, but other than that, your'e on your own. Don't take this class if you are poor at taking notes in class like myself.
LOL! love the quote listed. i had him a couple years ago and you HAVE to take notes....whoever said you don't have to...seriously..wtf? how did you manage to pass? the text book was pretty useless...and you have to do essays..which arent bad if you TAKE GOOD NOTES and prepare waaay in advance. he's comical.
Good teacher. Makes comments about people. I find him to be funny meanwhile i'm always stoned in class. Take really good notes. Don't buy textbooks, not needed. 3 tests and a paper. Last test is final exam. ALl etsts are not accumulative. Gives out review sheet which is test way before actual test. Keep up on notes guaranteed B or better.
"any questions? requests for clarification?" haha this guy cracks me up!yeah his lectures are boring & you cant take notes & listen to him @ the same time he talks to fast! Buy a tape recorder, or just listen to him.He GIVES YOU 7-12 essay questions weeks prior to the test & then he picks 2 of them & u have to write about 1 of them. pretty fair guy
GOOD TEACHER...BOTTOM LINE, HE GIVES REVIEW SHEETES WITH 6 TO 8 QUESTIONS ON IT, PICKS 2, YOU HAVE TO PICK 1 AND WRITE ESSAY. JUST KEEP THE REVIEW SHEET OUT DURING LECTURES WHEN HE GETS TO ONE OF THE QUESTIONS JUST WRITE DOWN THE ANSWERS. COULDNT BE ANY EASIER TO GET AN "A"
He is a boring teacher, kinda easy class but soooooo boring. Notes everyday on board and overhead, good discussions sometimes. Nice guy, but bad teacher. class is very boring but def could be worse!!!
Alexander was a great teacher. If you are interested in history he is the prof. for you. I love history and I loved his class. Take good notes and you'll do great. All of his tests are essays. I never missed a class and never got below a 90 so he told me not to come in for the final since I already had an A. I highly reccomend him.
He gives three exams, but he gives you the questions before hand. He then chooses two of the questions and then you pick one and write an essay. I didn't feel that he graded the essays fairly, no matter how much I studied i'd get the same grade. You don't really learn anything going to his class, because he rambles on about nothing, very fast. C-
really good teacher you must take notes.. He treats you like a real college student. I got an A great guy too
good teacher, treats students like college students. Take good notes, you will learn something new towards the test every class.
Great guy. If you are here to learn you will appreciate his teaching style. He approaches the subject lightheartedly.
Need 2 have an appretiation for history. Amazing teacher. Doesnt just ramble on with dates. Tries 2 make history fun. He is there 2 teach, if u r not interested in learning he wont force u, thats why he asks 4 requests for clarification. If u want an A with minimal effort youre dreaming. This is college, you need 2 work for ur grade. A+++++++++++
3 exams, 2 double weighted.. Rambles on from the minute he walks into class until the end, takes attd. at the end of class which is annoying, makes you study 10 essay topics and only chooses 1 the day of class which is a waste of time. Dont take him if you dont have to.
Not a Bad teacher; you just have to actually take good notes and pay attention; yea he is just a lecture teacher but this is college; not everything is handed to you; you gotta work for ur grade in his class; NOT a Bad Teacher; He's a Good Guy, and Helpful if u try.
Gotta love this guy! he's so funny and his class is pretty interesting, he always waits for u to ask a question about what he just talked about to make sure u understood "are there any request for clarification?" test are easy; he gives u a sheet with 6 to 10 questions, for the test he'll choose 2 then u answer just 1. youtube tags scc alexander
You either really like him or you dislike him. I was one of the ones that loved him. He's very sarcastic, and does what some think is rambling, but it is relevent if you are actually listening to the lecture. It's verbal clues to help you remember. If you are there to learn, you will learn, I think he is more than fair to his students.
Great teacher, Just follow where he goes with lecture it does tie in to what is going on . Take notes and participate you'll be fine
He spoke for an hour about topics that he could've covered in 15 minutes, constantly creates dead silence while awaiting answers to questions he knows that nobody else knew. The only thing I learned in his class was that Baskin Robbins gives away 31 cent scoops once a year, & that a request for clarification is pointless for topics he never taught.
He isn't totally bad. It depends on if you like history or not. He talks WAY too fast so you have to write extremely fast. I've given up on listening to him. I just read the textbook and take my own notes. He's sarcastic and if you ask him to slow down he usually won't. You have 2 essay tests and the final is an essay and that's it.
best teacher i've had, the finals tomorrow and i'm gonna miss him i cant lie, he makes things fun and funny and he's got a great personality and tries to include everyone..greay guy
he was okay take him if there is noody else. class itself is easy 2 essay tests and the final is an essay too. one 5 page paper you do not need the book at all. most of what he says is pointless like a page or two of notes every class. easy grader. if you do okay on the tests you will be fine.
He is really great! hes a crazy old dude but you will love him. Keeps you til the last minute and takes attendence at the end. Def knows what he is doing. fun stuff!
Great teacher. Very tolerant of late students. Tries to have fun with the class, although most jokes go way over the heads of majority of the class. His topic of study is broad and it is not easy to remember everything. Read the text book, take notes and don't miss class. With an A average to the end, he lets you skip the final.
Great professor. He makes the class very interesting and is always making crazy jokes. By the end of the course you would have learned at lest something if you passed the class. He gives you a study guide of essay questions before the test and says he will pick two out of the 6 or 7 questions but the part that sucks is that you don't know which que
Any requests for clarification?! you well hear this everyday and at first hate it but then begin to like him. He's some what funny in his own way. i think anyone who takes him will like him by the end of the semester.
BEST BEST he tries so hard to make jokes and involve the class. I feel like most poeple in class think he is dry and boring. It is extremely obviouse that he knows what he is talking about and loves what he does. He has traveled to the places that he teaches about, gives intresting stories that cant be read in a book.
Yes the words "any requests for clarification?!" will make u go crazy and the lecture is quite boring. He's cocky and has a dry sense of humor. He involves the class with VERY obvious answered questions. Tests are just essays. Take tons of notes. If you can, take another professor.
"ANY REQUESTS FOR CLARIFICATION" you will hate this sentence by the third class. Hurts to listen to him talk. HARD tests in essay form gives you 12 questions to review and picks 2 for the test. HARSH grader. 1-6 pg paper that will make u want to pull your hair out. Nice man, not a good prof. really boring class. if u take him take the class w.frien
Worst prof I've ever had.
worst teacher. all he does is ramble on and and most of what he says has nothing to do with the test. would not take again. I asked him for extra help and he said no and does not care about students.
He is completely out of his mind. Don't even buy the books he mentions because you won't even use them. I fell asleep in every class of his, but still managed to pass. It took him 6 months to fix my grade from an F to a D. That was the only thing that annoyed me about him. Other than his question: ANY REQUESTS FOR CLARIFICATION!?
I learned half way thru the class, dont pay attention to his class, work on the sheet for the test and you'll be better off. His notes are older than most of his students and goes off topic that arent needed. Focus on the sheet for the test and it will be an easy class if u can ignore ANY REQUESTS FOR CLARIFICATION quote
most boring professor. i slept the whole class and still got a c+. dont even listen to him he says nothing important. he is creepy and has lame jokes. every time he says are there any reguest for clarification i wanted to knock him out.
He's really not that bad. 4 tests in total, including the final exam. One research assignment. He doesn't write notes on the board, but gives a lot of information. You need to take notes to pass this class!
oh my god. the most bizarre teacher i have ever had. he doesn't keep the same train of thought for more than 20 minutes. he rambles on and on. you have no idea what youre in for if you take this class. he's the absolute weirdest person i EVER met. i dont know how i managed a c+ but it took ALOT of effort
This prof. mixes the lecture around. The topic that I like in Western Civilization, was Ancient Egypt in contribution to Islam.
WAVE WILDLY AND SOUND OFF LOUDLY !! you will hear this everyday ..very corny sense of humor, very in eccentric in his own way but i like him. hes easy going. dont use text books and dont pay attention in the class either all you must do is know the study guide which he gives you weeks in advance and you will pass.
He was so confusing on what is important and what's not! Talked for 2 hours straight! ANY REQUESTS FOR CLARIFICATION.......He gives about 8 essay options and you need to know all 8 and in tests always the first and last one was an option! Always,Thank God its over, I took it in the summer had him everyday 5 weeks straight
good person. good professor. not the most interesting class but you can tell he loves what he does and he wants his students to do well. participate- you'll be glad you did later.
He's definitely not the easiest teacher out there, tests are in essay form. First he gives you a list of 8 possible essays he would ask you to write and then goes over the material. This makes the tests a lot easier because you can prepare your essay. The last test he gives you a sheet of paper that tells you what essay you have to write not to har
Very corny jokes tries to get the class to partic by asking ?s that u think are trick ?s they're not he just wants u to participate Tests r essays that he gives you b4 hand Dont pay attention to him bc he goes off on tangents I draw all class and look the answers up myself Im doing better then anyone else Ive talked to in my class n they take notes
Awesome Prof. very intersting. 3 Test gives the questions out prior to the test. Take good notes but be sure to concentrate your notes on the questions. Book not necessary you can look up all the info on Wikipedia.
his tests are essays. only 3 tests and a final paper-not bad at all. while he talks, he definitely tends to get off subject so i just didnt listen to him and looked up all the questions online. i found that way to be easier. he is a good professor though, but its just not the most exciting class
After reading the previous comments on this teacher on this website I had entered into his class. I am more than halfway into his semester and I have to tell you it is my least liked class. He speaks mono toned and is incredibly boring. Yes he gives few tests but they are weighted heavily and graded harshly. I would not recommend his class.
Hands down the man!! If you do the work you'll do fine. He explains the work and if you don't understand all you have to do is ask im to clarify
This was my least liked class. He is boring, monotone, and goes off topic. Virtually made no sense, I had to get all the information from the text book and online. I don't recommend him.
"Any request for Carification"is his favorite phrase. So let me be cyrstal clear this professor STINKS!!! Its his way or the highway. Will not help no matter what your problem is, and you better read the book if you want to learn anything. Take my advise keep away.
He was hilarious!!! haha
Not the best professor. He does give the questions ahead of time for the test but there are like 15 and he only picks 2 or 3 so it's really not that easy. He's boring and has a dry sense of humor but if you go to class you should pass. If you're looking for an A though I wouldn't recommend him unless you're really good at history.
THIS PROFESSOR SUCKS. dont take him. he harshly grades you on material he doesnt teach, hes boring, he confusing, and he wasted about $70 of my money because i didnt crack the text once. avoid him.
i took him for 101 and 102 hes an awesome professor. if you're attentive and you participate and he likes you he will give u a good grade. it's all about how you want to learn and how much effort you wanna put in this class. people are probably saying hes not good because they didnt want to work.
He's hard to understand, he speaks very low. He has a weird sense of humor. I did poorly on a lot of his tests, they are all essay tests. You need to go every class and really pay attention. Hard teacher.
Listen up drama queens. This guy isn't that bad. YES he can be boring to listen too, but what do you think hes teaching HISTORY western civ. that alone will make you want to ripp your eye balls out. my advice? take bare minimum notes and ask the day before a test all the test questions, and read them in the textbook. His notes dont help, but youl p
ANY REQUEST FOR CLARIFICATION!!!!!!! smh at this man. I got a B by going to class everytime...and playing online poker on my iphone..he put me to sleep but all you have to do is look up the essay questions prior to the test..answer all of them. and you should be good
He's really not that bad...a little boring but at the end of the day he's a fair grader, very knowledgeable, and a good guy. We didn't really use the book and it's hard to take notes b/c he rambles a bit. Test are all short essays but he reviews and gives us the questions way beforehand. If you take him you'll be fine.
I took him for western civ. His lectures are such a bore and sometimes you can't understand what he is saying but in the end he grades exams fairly. The only annoyin thing is the paper we wrote that was double weighted just seemed kind of pointless. other then that hes not as bad as people say just take notes or get info from the text & your good
He was very boring but the class was pretty easy and he gave us the test questions ahead of time. I had him for a 3 hour night class so that was boring but i played tetris during his class and still got a b so the class is easy
he is an odd creature, his lectures are confuing.. very confusing. However, i got an A plus in this class because i took advange of his office hours. he gives you the test befor hand, so go to his office hrs and he will give u all the specifics to get 90's on each exam. if you do well, he waves you final, which is great.
he is amazing and very helpfull... he hands you the questions to the tests before the tests so you can study from them.... overall i loved his class and it is very intresting...
EXTREMELY BORING! His lectures DO NOT make sense. He rambles on, it is VERY hard to take notes. He gives you the test essay questions before the test, but it's hard to follow in class. If you plan on getting a good grade, I suggest read the textbook even though he never tells you too. I dreaded coming to this class, but did well because I studied.
he is a very nice and interesting man although he is very boring he is passionate about what he teaches you DO NOT need to take notes in class just google the answers before hand and play games in class whatever you do dont waste your money on the textbooks you DONT need them easy class to get an A but boring
took him for western civ. he is very easy but will pick on certain people and he is very boring but the tests are mad easy you get a blue book and full it as much you can every other line. gives you all the test questions and answers them all the class before the test.
Don't like history don't take him!! Intelligent guy, knows a lot & likes history. Very old & boring, put me to sleep. "Any request for Clarification" you will hear at least 5times each class! Everyday he just talks & talks, very hard to take notes. 2 test, & final ALL essays. gives review sheet= 8?'s and picks 2?'s for exam. & 5 pg research paper.
horrible teacher times where i couldn't make it to class and have a medical element he wouldn't accept any doctors notes and said they weren't excused and he goes off a tangents on the most random topics that don't have anything to do with what you are learning avoid him at all costs
He is a very nice guy but DO NOT TAKE HIM. Unless you are a history junkie you won't like him. He tells more stories than he actually does teach information. He does give the questions before the test but he barely teaches the information in the questions. This is a very relaxed class but you won't learn anything and he doesn't teach anything.
Great professor and he's a very smart man. His tests are very easy. He gives you an overview of possible essay questions in weeks;advance. He explains the past in great detail to those that are interested. There is one MLA format paper to do which he gives you months to do it. I recommend him!
This man has huge ego. Boring lectures, likes to hear himself ramble. Tests are essays. Big term paper where you have to compare class work to magazine article on relative topic. He does not seem to care much for his students. One of those professors who forgot why he started teaching in the first place.
He speaks in a monotone, so don't take him in summer like I did, or you'll end up listening to him for 2 hours a day, 4 days a week. He gets the information out to you, but it's in a monotone. He never asks "Any questions?" Rather, he'll say "Any requests for clarification?" His tests are essays and are easy if you just use the review sheets.
I liked him, he can be a bit boring but its history. What i liked most about him is all his tests are essays so its more opinionated.
can be funny and tries to entertain class with jokes but its all lecture and is very boring. tests are easy though.
pretty good teacher, makes jokes, may come off as annoying but he tries to make this class a little better considering the subject sucks. tests are easy. always asks "are there any requests for clarification?"
My least favorite teacher. I am a near 4.0 student and his class is going to lower my GPA. All lectures are his own experiences on the subject, then you have extensive readings to do outside the class. It wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't so offensive and didn't skip around while he was talking. It makes concentrating and gathering notes difficult.
His lectures are extremely boring and he is very unorganized. He does, however, know exactly what he's talking about. Gives plenty of time for you to look at the review sheet and study. All of the answers are found on Google, so his tests are easy if you just look it up. Boring subject, but he does have some good jokes and makes fun of people.
The professor talks way too fast. Good luck to you writing down any kind of notes that make sense. Also, he does give all of the test questions and picks 2 for you to write an essay on but he does not explain anything well enough for you to be able to write an entire essay for the test. BTW he expects GREAT detail on the test essays.DO NOT TAKE!!
Toke him for summer 5 weeks 4 days a week. 3 tests and 1 written essay. The last to tests, the second to last test and final are worth double. Do your best on those 2. All tests are essays.Gives you essay question way before test. Total of 12, he will pick 2 questions and you have to pick one to write about. If you want a A, WRITE EVERYTHING HE SAYS
"are there any requests for clarification?" this prof. is AWESOME. Just go to class, he gives test question sheet weeks before test, find answers on google and your golden. I achieved A+! Subject is boring but just bring your phone and he won't bother you.
he talks about history all class. so borring. he skips around which makes it really hard to take notes. You need to write essays for his tests. He does give u the essay questions but its difficult to prepare 12 essays for one test. This is the first professor as SCCC which i dont like. This class is bringing down my GPA very much. HORRIBLE TEACHER.
He is funny. He has a different sense of humor. He laughs at his own jokes. The class is EXTREMELY boring. He just talks the entire class. no use of computer, just sits there and talks. However, the tests are VERY easy, almost guarentee you will pass. Class is so boring, but the tests are so easy so its worth it.he will like you if you laugh with him
Great professor!! his class made it easy to pass, he gives you the essay questions weeks before hand. It made everything so much easier to just look it up and type up your own notes to study.
If you're a person who needs written noted on the blackboard, don't take his class. All he does is sit in a chair and talks. He jumps around from topic to topic so if you're a person who outlines their notes, it's very hard to follow him and take your notes.
One of the worst here at suffolk. Why I ever decided to take him I do not know. I am a good student but struggled in this class due to lack of him being clear. approached several times and was not looking to help. His advice however to withdraw. No hw grade, no participation, no attendance just 3 tests and an essay. Does not care. stay away
I’ll sum up this guy in several words…HILARIOUS, easy, nice, understanding, makes-it- impossible-to-fail, practically-hands-you-the-answers, informative, smart… Are there any requests for clarification? TAKE HIM
always tries to make you laugh. excellent at explaining information that will be on the essays. no homework is given. all you have are 3 essay tests (in which the questions are given to you in advance) and on term paper. got an A so me and the others who did as well didn't have to take the 3rd test or come to the last week of classes.
The only bad professor I've had at Suffolk. I like to type my notes in a clean outlined fashion but he does not write notes on the board nor does he explain topics in a consistent or relevant matter. This makes it EXTREMELY difficult to organize the information. He seems nice but he is an awful teacher.
pretty funny history professor he usually doesn't write notes so take your own notes but overall he is a cool guy and cracks some funny jokes every now and then the class is repetitive most of the time he speaks we take notes but overall I liked the format of the class
Honestly he is hands down the worst professor I have ever had at Suffolk. He's very boring. His tests are okay because he gives you the questions but when he gives you back the test he gives you no explination on your grade and there is no room for negotiating or anything of the sort. Doesn't bother helping students get good grades he doesn't care
Any Request for Clarification? That is what he always says. He is a funny guy. He only talks. Gives out handouts. You wanna take notes? listen to him talk. He gives you the questions for the test ahead of time. The class is okay.
This guy is absolutely terrible. All over the place and does not help. Easy to fail this class
He is a nice guy but he is not meant to be a teacher. He just sits in a chair and talks about gibberish the entire class. He gives you test questions for the first test, the second test, and the final on the first day of class. The second test and the final are double weighted. If you hate history, don't take him.
he is the worse teacher ever!!! i don't know how these people are on here saying he's the best. he is very rude and he's very inconcerate.what teacher puts a final on a Saturday. I reported him. why is he still teaching with his ancient notes. " Any request for Clarification" is al he says! He needs to retire he likes making people's life miserable
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Lazy, no hw, we never use the textbook. He does not write notes, and gives way too much irrelevant information during his 3 hour lectures. His grading policy is non existent and unpredictable. He gave me 80s on everything and couldnt explain what i need to do better when we had a conference. Had to drop to keep my GPA up.
DO NOT TAKE. Dude goes on sarcastic rants and you will have no idea what to write down. He goes on tangents and nothing is really relevant to the tests. If you do take him just ignore his lectures and study the essay questions on the syllabus thats all you need to know. Least helpful and most confusing professor ever.
First let me start that as a person he is a nice man, very sharp and has great stories to tell. As a teacher though I think he could adjust his style a bit. His lectures can be very hard to follow at times especially if you are trying to take notes. Come to him during his office hours before the tests, and go over the review questions.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE HAD AT SCCC. ANY REQUESTS FOR Clarification.... Theres no point in even paying attention in his class. Your best bet is to look up the essay questions that he gives for the tests on your own time and really study the material hard. He gives 3 essay tests and one book essay for your grade. Avoid taking him at all costs
He was very confusing .....did not follow textbook, and he works off his own notes written on OLD WORN OUT LOOSELEAF paper. Gives many handouts..confusing & not straight forward. Tests were ALL WRITTEN ESSAYS ---- to be fair --- he hands out STUDY QUESTIONS for the ESSAYS. Know all that infor !! Good Luck with any need for CLARIFICATION !
Professor Alexander is awesome. Anyone saying mean things about him, you're just complaining because he isn't easy! To me he was interesting to learn from and as long as you pay attention and participate, it's easy to pass his tests. I look up to him like a mentor.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!! He doesn't help at all if you ask him. He doesn't review for tests. You do essay tests and he chooses the questions so be aware. He's a horrible grader. Lectures are very long and boring.
Where should I begin with Professor Alexander?... He's very unclear with his material, I believe he knows the material himself very well, but he just sits in front of the class and talks at you for an hour and fifteen minutes. He doesn't use the textbook, but it's in your own interest to READ because you WILL NOT learn anything from class.
Unbearably boring and no teaching skills! He sits in front of class & reads from his notes in a quiet, monotone voice & does not stop until class is over. Never interacts, no assignments. Never used "mandatory" textbook. His tests are ONLY essay format so good luck trying to wing it. He is not flexible & very politically incorrect. Worst Professor!
Terrible teacher. Do not take you will regret. Tough grader and his lectures will put you to sleep. Trust me take someone else.
You can't take good notes in his class. He mumbles important facts and goes through material so fast, you can't keep up. Additionally, the book for this class does not give all the information in his notes, since he speaks from his own experiences. He gives a # grade for essay exam, and grades strictly. If you want to fail this class, take him!
Worst professor I've had, He doesn't use any sort of visuals, no power points, with occasional useless hand outs . You only get 3 tests and paper, thats your grades. Theres no point in taking notes because the tests and paper have nothing do with them. He's very strict. He has a little bit humor but cant make up for his bad teaching skills.
This guy is the man. Any request for clarification? He will always be willing to answer your questions. He is hilarious. He gives you all test questions for all 3 of his test in advance. Just look up all the questions the night before the test. There only 5 to 7 questions on it. He picks to of them and all you have to do is write about one of them
I enjoyed his class a lot. I like history though. His style is very old-school in that the class is straight lecture, no power-points and notes are up to you. Some people were put off by that but I didn't mind it. He can be a bit of a tough grader but he is a nice man with a quirky, oddball sense of humor. Three tests in essay form and a 5pg paper.
He has a really dry sense of humor and "picks on " students. This is the first man that has ever been able to teach me history and make me want to pay attention.
Extremely Awkard teacher. long lectures, sometimes make students feel uncomfortable.
It is easy to pass the class but extremely hard to sit through lectures. Class is pointless considering he gives a study guide and you realize early on that what he "teaches" you has barely any relevance to the tests.
"Are there any requests for clarification?" Yes, no one is this entire class knows what you've been saying the entire semester. He rambles on and on in a droning, monotone voice every lecture about things that don't even really contribute to the course and about things that aren't even on the tests.
Quiet when talks, Sit in the front, tough grader, if you miss class you will be lost
- Long lectures - Not specific in assignments - Tough grader - Speaks on tangents
He teaches from his own notes and uses no visuals, so it's very hard to follow along. On the syllabus he gives you study guides for all three essay exams. You have to study all of the possible topics and on the day of the test he gives you two to choose from. You basically have to teach yourself everything if you take him.
His lectures go on forever. He goes off on tangents and rarely ever has a point and most of the information is useless. The tests are essays where he gives you a list of essay questions and only picks one for the essay but you never know which one. He sucks.
An old-school professor. Goes off on tangents. Dry sense of humor. A nice guy, but unless you are good at taking notes, being able to sort out what is trivia and important to tests and remembering a large amount of info, you will not do well. Also his "Double Weighted" second and third exam is terrible.
Double weighted second exam and final exam meant my 40 was an 80/200, despite my single weighted 87 /100 first exam and 92 / 100 paper, making it so I needed at least a 60 on the final just to pass. I got an 87 174/200, raising my average to a C. But because of heavy class participation, I got an A. Participate in class, makes a huge difference.
He spends the entire class talking about fun facts in history so you can never actually tell when he says something you actually need to know Repeats the SAME things over and over, like the phrase "Are there any requests for clarification" and when he does the attendance he wastes everyones time talking about their heritage.
I am a bright 27 year old and after doing a medical institute I decided to go back to school for a real diploma on top of being a sonogram technician. This class was required so i took it with prof. Alexander and regret it tremendously!! He lectures the whole time but they are so dry and difficult to understand. 1-five Page paper and 3 essays
I can tell that this prof is a sweet guy and knows his stuff, but I think it's time for him to retire. He's so friendly and nice, not bitter in anyway. But he spends the entire class lecturing with no notes at all. 3 essays that count as tests and he gives you the potential essay questions beforehand. Not awful but definitely wouldn't take again.
I took western civ with professor Alexander. So many people told me to drop him because he was so boring. I love history and honestly loved him. His lectures were slightly boring but not that bad. I would definitely recommend him to someone that loves history and doesn't mind reading articles and stuff
before you take him... this is my 5th semester at sccc and ive never had a professor this bad. Reads of a warn loose leaf paper makes students feel unconfortable from the first day of class. Tests are unclear and almost impossible to get an A. Ive taking anatomy classes easier then his class beware horrible. You can be a top student and do bad.
He's alright, not the best prof.
i had prof alexander for my 3rd semester t Suffolk he is really boring and the clock goes so slow his tests are essays and hes a really hard grader. you have an essay at the end of the semester witch I don mind writing essays and I handed mine in for a final grade and he didn't grade half of the classes work because he didn't like the article.
This man is just too much. He reminds me of the character from up, like the old man. The man lectures me and the entire class to sleep. You can barley hear him and you have to try your hardest to really understand the class. In other words if you don't ask a lot of questions then I feel that you are gone. If you are taking his class, good luck.
Lectures are hard to follow, teaches out of his own notes with no visual aid. 3 tests: the syllabus has a pool of 8-10 essay questions for each, the actual tests will have 2 random ones, and you pick one to do. That means everything else you studied that 5 weeks of the semester isn't worth jack. Second two tests are worth twice as much. Be careful.
I enjoyed this professor a lot. His way of teaching is very old school. He is very knowledgeable and has a good sense of humor. The work load is fair. All of his classes are lectures with no visuals, so you have to really pay attention and ask questions. He can be a bit monotone but his passion and knowledge is admirable.
Professor Alexander makes you work for your grade, but all of the material for the essay exams is there if you listen. I have read some of the posts on here and I cannot help but think those who rated him poorly did not care to put in the time for the course. He lectures with very few handouts so be CREATIVE and make it work(:. Thank you
Honestly, he is the worst professor that ive ever had. he is rude and a bully. he points out students and makes them feel bad for not understanding the work. he picks and chooses who passes and fails. DO NOT take his class, really he is horrible.
He is very very lecture heavy and doesn't follow the textbook. His lectures are based on his own experiences and what he saw when he traveled. He tends to mumble and it is quite hard. There are no given notes it is all up to you to try to listen and take notes. He tends to jump around a lot. If you don't show up to class you WILL fail.
The class has just 4 grades. The tests are all essay questions and based on his own lectures: his lectures are hard to follow, and he speaks quietly and uses no visual aid. 3 tests, with the second two being worth twice as much. The other grade is a research paper based on a scholarly article.
He is definitely a lecture-heavy professor. All he does is speak and speak and speak. I feel that he gives out information that really isn't needed for any tests or papers. Now that I have rested my case, "Are there any requests for clarification"?
Honestly, this is the run down. Theres 3 Essay tests and 1 paper. I never wrote any notes and just looked up the essay answers online and then studied those and made it into my own essay and somehow got an A. Don't bother taking notes to be honest unless you really want too. For the essay tests make it short and simple, get to the point!
He grades on only 4 things. He failed me on one test which made it impossible to pass even if I got 100% on the rest of my assignments. I talked to him about extra credit and he pretty much blew me off. He thinks hes funny but really isnt. Feel free to sleep because everyone else does. Dont take the class unless you know history super well.
Prof. Alexander was a bit much at first- I never had someone say so much in a lecture before or since. I adjusted. That is the downside. The upside is that he gave so much information and CONNECTIONS in his lectures that my understanding of history grew immeasurably. If you work, you will get more out of this class than even graduate level ones.
Prof. Alexander is a unique individual. His lectures are most definitely boring and the clock drags. He doesn't give handouts. He laughs at his own jokes, I actually hated him at first. I thought I was doing horrible in the class, but I managed to do very well and got an A. Turns out he is a very nice guy.
Do not take this class !!!! His lectures consist of him sitting at a table reading from his notes that were probably written during the time in history that we were learning about. He also counted two random tests twice While the final and term paper were only counted twice. Ive gotten an A in every class I have taken at Suffolk and got a C
If you actually don't mind studying and doing work, you'll do fine. Professor Alexander is like the human equivilant of a history book, full of knowledge but probably boring for those not interested. I personally don't mind the lectures. But hey, I'm a history nerd.
Professor Alexander is an old school teacher. He has very dry humor and he is very lecture heavy. His lectures are boring. There are threes written tests. He gives a study guide of about 3 to 10 questions, he expects you to write an essay about all of them. He only asks for one during test day but you don't know which one. He is not a good choice.
long lectures all tests are essays
Professor Alexander is the best i wish i can have him for every history class at suffolk he talks alot but its worth it there are three tests and one paper if you do well on two tests and the paper the last test doesnt count towards your grade pay attention or you will fail now with that out of the way is there any requests for clarification?
He basically blabs about western civ history. My classes with him were hilarious. He goes over his favorite parts of history and the tests aren't hard. I never once studied or read the online book yet always got a B+ on the tests. I would take him for every class if I could. If I did read the book then I could've gotten a easy A.
Very mono tone, during the whole class cant hear him/understand him mumbling and when you ask for him to repeat he will but you still cant understand the second time. Doesnt specify what he is talking about uses words like them they expecting students to know who them and they are
Literally the worst professor Ive ever had. He thinks hes funny and tries to crack jokes every 5 seconds and I learned absolutely nothing. Talks the entire lecture, no notes or handouts and no one has any idea what hes talking about and dont even get me started on the are there any request for clarification do not ever take this guy
this is the worst professor ive ever had. every class he just reads off of old papers and expects you to write down every single thing he says, which is difficult when he mumbles the whole time. no notes, no handouts. you basically teach yourself in this class so you might as well take the online course and not waste your time. stay away from him
Professor Alexander is a great guy! My experience has been nothing short of positive! He has a very dry sense of humor which some people find to be intimidating but hes actually very funny. Id gladly take his class again- dont let these reviews scare you away!! You will pass if you show up and do the work Ive enjoyed his class very much
professor Alexander is a really nice professor. His class is fairly easy. He does not give out homework. His test are super easy. His class overall is really good. I would recommend taking it.
Professor Alexander is AWESOME! He is an excellent teacher and an all around great guy-I would love to take another one of his classes! If you show up and do what youre supposed to do, you will pass. Do not let these reviews scare you. I loved his class! Are there any requests for clarification?
Great prof. Show up with a good attitude, take extensive notes, do the pre-test essay questions/unit study guide and read some of the texts he gives you. You will pass. He has a great sense of humor, too. Enjoy!
All he does is read off of his own notes the whole class. No handouts, no homework, no power points. Very easy to not pay attention, and also the textbook for the class is basically useless. 3 tests the whole semester and one large paper. He's also a very difficult grader for no reason. Personally, would never take him again.
Great prof. Very classy. Show up to every class! Loved his lectures and thoughts. Easy class. Do the practice essay questions. They are the test questions. There will be the 3 exams: pick 1 of 2 questions. One 5 page paper. That's it. Be respectful. He is a real gem, has experience, and hilarious. I wish he taught HIS102. I would take it.
his class is very easy. He does not give out any homework, just don't waste your money on books for his class you will never use them. Tough grader though don't know why? Overall his class is easy and good for people who want to take a nap : )
I don't like leaving a negative review because he does seem like a nice person but his class will make you wanna drop out of school. He drones on every class, you'll have to learn the material all on your own guided by the syllabus. Impossible grader.
To the younger students, they may not appreciate professor Alexander's humor, and it is a bit dry at times but he is very easy going. He's an older gentleman that knows his stuff and it's better to record him than trying to take notes. Tough grader and you will need to read quite a bit. Put in the work, participate and you will pass with no issues
No notes, no study guides or review sheets, he does nothing but talk about the information, all test are essays and one 6 page paper. He is a nice funny guy but i personally hate a class that you have to teach yourself, almost seems like he doesn't care.
His101/102. He knows a lot of stuff. He only teaches 102 during the summer. Didn't use any of the books on course except 1 for 102. The textbook is a literal sc*m. it's a disc that's useless once used. Very old school lecture. The test questions are in the syllabus, study those. 2 out of 8-12 will be on the test, randomized. 1 essay per class.
WORST professor i have every had in my entire life !!!!!! Doesnt give us anything to study. The notes he puts up on the board are doodles. He needs to retire
Literally made my GPA cry for help
This guy makes me want to drop out of college. Literally doesnt give you anything to work with just sits there and lectures the whole time. Definitely doesnt care if you pass or fail. Dont waste your money.
He does nothing but sit there for an hour and 15 minutes reading off of old loose leaf paper... my gpa was amazing and now it's crying for help. It seems like he doesn't care about his students, all he wants is the money. Plus he made us spend $100 on a textbook that we have never touched. I feel like i wanna cry everytime i think about going there
worst professor ive ever taken. if you feel like being miserable every time you come to class then this is the class to take. all he does is talk and talk and thinks his hilarious. i learned absolutely nothing
As nice of a guy he may be outside of being a professor, he is the worst at lecturing. Pros: An alright guy, tries to crack corny jokes between lectures. Cons: Lecture heavy, mumbles a lot, you will not be able to pay attention without losing it within the first 15 minutes of him lecturing. Want advice? You'll have to teach yourself with him.
A very boring professor. He sits at his desk and reads off of these really old notes for an hour and 15 minutes. There are 3 tests, one of them is counted as two tests, and a 5 page paper. It's not a tough class but trying to stay awake is very hard. Also, don't buy any books for the class because you will never ever use them. Save yourself $100
If i were you i would not take him hes extremely boring and just sits at the desk reading off his notes, but he only gives 3 test and one paper which were all fairly easy. the tests are an essay format he gives you the essay questions but you wont know which question he is picking till the day of the test. study those questions and youll be good
If you want to be able to sit in a class and not participate at all, this is the class for you. you can take notes if you want to but he really won't notice if you don't. NO HOMEWORK BUT the worst part are the tests being all memorization, you have to memorize 10 questions and he picks 2, you write about one. Worst part. He is a nice guy.
When this whole pandemic began none of my professors answered any email I wrote. When I asked him for help he answered in about 10 minutes. He gets back to you right away. He truly cares about his students unlike a lot of professors at Suffolk. He is such a sweet man I 100% recommend him
Took his 101 course fall 2014, but was barely passing the course to due to him mumbling lectures, barely passing the quizzes and wasnt very accommodating (needed extra copies of notes during lectures and extended time which he rudely dishonored) had to drop out of the class near the end of the semester, he doesnt understand about accommodation :(
Such a boring professor. He lectures the whole time and theres no way to get what you missed if you miss class. His tests (3)are written, but reliant on taking notes and memorization. Each test theres about 10 questions to memorize and he only picks 2. One 5 page paper and you have to pay for the article because he only wants a specific database
do not take this professor, I took this class this pass summer during covid pandemic. he has no consideration what so ever. he made me spend money on a book that i already had from a friend, just because "it was an updated version" but it ended up being the same exact book. i emailed him for extra help/extra credit and never got back to me.
Great prof. Loved his lectures and thoughts. Easy class if you take notes on his videos (did online class. Do the practice essay questions on the syllabus They are the test questions. There will be the 3 exams: pick 1 of 2 questions he chooses. He has experience and hilarious. He gives feedbacks on the exams to help you improve with the next.
Hes a really sweet man. I would definitely take him. If you put the work in? he rewards you! I enjoyed his class!
Very kind man. Watch his videos and you will be fine. He is amazing
The material may be boring to some, but his Western Civ 101 is built to have you pass. There are two one hour long lectures per week, and three 1.5 page essays the entire semester. THATS IT. He maps everything out for you to succeed.
In all honesty Professor Alexander's class is relatively well rounded. It's a bit lecture heavy but you can definitely learn a great deal from the online lectures. 3 papers all 1.5 pages pretty simple stuff.
Emailing him is like emailing a child, it's never clear what he wants, he has misspelt so many words. He just seems very unintelligent. He's just so out of touch and you shouldn't take a class with him if possible.
Don't take the reviews for granted. The guy seems like a jerk to be honest but I took his online course and never actually met him in person, so. This man is the king of typos though and always came off as rude in his emails, whether intentional or not. He might be an ok guy but I'd just avoid this one if I were you. There are better professors...
Very lecture heavy. Just sits and mumbles the lectures, when you ask him to be louder, he gets quieter. Cannot take notes due to him barely explaining anything. Purchase of the textbook is unnecessary due to him explaining the lectures "his own way". Would not recommend.
He is a sweet guy but he is all over the place and he talks more about his traveling then he does actual class material. Tests are essays but his grading is strict, you must pay extremely careful attention or be a history buff in order to do good.
He is nice ju is not good at teaching. He sits & speaks ab topics, which is very difficult to understand. His exams are essays w/ a given topic & you write using no research w/ no prior info of the topics. He grades harshly & provides no feedback or a rubric he grades based on. As an A average student, I ended w/ a C+ despite being at every lecture
Seems like a nice enough guy but is very quiet when talking and is confusing (jumps subjects). He makes you buy a packet at the school store at the beginning of the year instead of just giving it to us. There's an online textbook that we're supposed to read along with the class but I don't think anyone actually does it.
If you're looking for an easy note taking class with multiple choice tests, DONT take him. He's a great guy and funny too, but his lectures are very lengthy and hard to pay attention to, which sucks because his tests are in essay format and require you to memorize and take notes. He barely uses the textbook, but I honestly needed it for his tests.
He took 30 points off my essay exam due to having an incorrect date. I spoke with him regarding the grade I received and he told me it was only because of the date. I personally find him to be an awful professor who sits and reads off of his own notes that we are not even provided with. How are we supposed to take notes when he speaks gibberish.
Class was a little confusing and hes not the best at giving feedback. Hard to understand him.
He's really weird. lectures last the full 1hr 15mins just reading from his mangled-up notes that look like they're from the 1800s. He repeats the same phrase "Any requests for clarification?" constantly. only good thing he gives you the questions that are on the tests in the syllabus, so tests weren't too bad, however his grading is really harsh
His lectures are pretty unclear, and there are basically no visual aids to help you out. Note-taking is extremely difficult for that reason. Nothing's posted online. He just sits at the front of the room and almost whispers the lecture. Decent sense of humor, but he feels like some guy you'd have a beer and talk baseball with, not a professor.
He was such a nice and funny teacher, but his lecture teaching style was rough to follow w/ no notes on the board or pointing out which facts were relevant for us to know. He would kind of just throw information at us in a relatively quiet voice, say a few jokes and than move on. Great guy but hardest class i've been in due to his teaching style.
The lectures are extremely boring and he makes the same weird joke over and over again. The class is as if he made his notes in 1970 and has been using them since like a robot. Save your money and patience and dont take this class
terrible class, all he does is mumble in some terrible monotone voice reading off his scrappy notes that have got to be 100 years old. also his packet he has you buy smells like horse manure. has terrible humor and just repeats "Any requests for clarification" until everyone goes mentally insane
Lectures can be dull, but the professor's quirky jokes make it bearable. Tests are tough, requiring strong note-taking and memorization skills. Unstuckstudy ai proved helpful for studying and preparing. Overall, the class is a challenge, but manageable with dedication.
He is pretty creepy and often does stuff like licking his lips while looking around and making weird faces but he isn't a bad professor. On the tests if you make it obvious that you studied he will give you a good grade and just talk to him after class so he remembers who you are. The "any requests for clarification" thing was very annoying tho.
