Great, great professor. Engaging, energetic, excellent! Lessons on Homer and Dante I'll never forget!
a little too concerned with doing everything in his power not to give out A's!!!! Get Real!!!
Very helpful prof. Always there for guidance, yet no matter how hard you try...the A is unattainable!! Rips apart papers even after rewirtes. Be happy with B's and C's if you take this guy, i would reccomend him but not for those who want a high GPA.
if you are a favorite you will do fine!
Dr. Blair is the reason I passed the Praxis for American Literature. He is a great teacher. You get A's if you deserve them... I know I've gotten them in his classes.
He is an awesome teacher and person. He helped to make me a better writer. He introduced me to writers and concepts I never would have been able to grasp on my own. He is funny and smart. You would be lucky to be in his class.
Blair is not the reason I passed the praxis. I credit a host of other teachers with assisting me in that area. Too high on himself--and I got an A!
Blair is a good teacher. He helped me with my writing a lot. and i love his purple pen. plus he impersonates bin laden and calls rip van winkle a scumbag!
Tries to make you think further but almost ends up making you feel lost when he questions you in class as if he doesn't understand what you are trying to say. Does this tactic with the brightest students- not effective!!!!
The best English teacher at Monmouth, hands down. Incredibly smart, very funny, and helpful to a fault. He was one of my first professors at Monmouth, and over the years has become both a mentor and a friend. His "Yellow Wall-paper" lecture is c
Jolly, wacky guy who paces around the classroom a lot and always plays devil's advocate. Reminds me of Chris Farley in that funny Van Down by the River skit on SNL. He gives you a good knowledge base of classic literature - enough so you can get that tough pink pie piece in Trivial Pursuit.
As a student who loved every other english professor I've had- CANNOT say that about Dr. Blair. Simply felt stupid in his class. Seemed as if he got joy out of students not giving right answers. Don't recommend taking him if you have other options.
Reminds me of Brutus from Popeye. Boring, and has an annoying habit of questioning everyone's answer to the questions he poses to the class during lecture. A fair grader, but when you finally get your papers back after 2 months have passed, they're completely covered in red ink. Good guy otherwise.
Fozzy Blair kicked some major American Lit ass!
He's not an easy teacher, but he's really helpful and willing to walk you through whatever you need help with.
very fair
Amazing teacher, interesting lectures. One of the best at Monmouth.
In my opinion, the best Monmouth has to offer. Always willing to help and listen. Awesome lectures, meaningful assignments and fair grader. The more classes you have with him, the more you will realize how much you are learning and the more you will like him!!!
Really nice and FUNNY! Appealing lectures during class. But, unfortunately, he is a very difficult grader with the endless quizzes and especially the res. paper. Although he is willing to listen to you and help you with your paper, he attempts to help you in a very vague, indirect, and roundabout way. The things he tells you dont really help you.
I had Dr. Blair for both American Lit. classes. His lectures keep your attention and he picks perfect pieces to teach the lessons. He approaches students almost as friends or colleagues, and seems to really enjoy teaching. You can tell he really cares a lot for the material he covers, because he really dives into his lessons. Writing intensive pr
i had him for creative writing and he is great. very fair and helpful really helps you understand things better and is willing to help you anytime
This professor is truly commited to his trade.. He offers his time and energy to aid students any time. Definitely take him he makes English courses a pleasure
Dr. Blair is a really good teacher! His lectures are fun and interesting! I would definitely take his class!
What a nice guy! Very funny, entertaining, and smart. He will always have you laughing. He is a tough grader and you better study for those quizzes, but if you participate and try your best he will respect that and your grade will be higher than expected, mine certainly was. If you want a fun class, take him!
He is a great teacher. When I dropped he figured a way to help me out and for extra help in the class.
Professor Blair tends to over-explain everything. As a result, his lectures can be tedious. However, he is a really good teacher. He is also a very tough grader. He gives a lot of extra credit and is willing to go above and beyond to make sure you succeed in his class.
He's a good guy but his papers are tough. If you do your work and listen you'll be fine
had him for nj lit and he is VERY into this class. he seems impossible but he is just a tough teacher. he cares about everyone's success and offers A TON of extra credit..also gives students chances to re-write somethings. he tries very hard to be fair and his lectures are fun/interesting. not that bad, just hard
I love how he teaches! He doesn't just stand behind a podium he walks around and really gets into teaching you the stories! Take him!
Dr. Blair is the most brilliant man I have ever met. He is a human encyclopedia! He is a tough grader, but he has so much enthusiasm for the content of the class it makes you want to work hard. Truly an academic inspiration.
The best teacher not only cares about the material, but cares about how his students encounter the material. No homework besides papers, and all of the in class lessons are incredibly entertaining, even though they drag along sometimes. He's incredibly passionate about the subject and conveying his subject. An absolute must-take.
Took an indenpendent study on Beat Literature with Blair for 2 years. He's awesome and I wish I was still in college just so I could learn as much as I did in his classes. Also had in him in American Lit. I would not say his clsses are "easy", but definitely he's a good guy, clear about deadlines and expectations, and very sweet. I give him an A++!
mind is blown seeing him at 4.1 experience was the opposite. I got a B & I was banging my head against the desk in this clas. Its extremely boring, tests are impossible, 1/2 the info he doesnt teach & he doesnt give reviews or show PPs, you only go on what he says verbally. Only positive is take advantage of extra credit. Take someone else
If the class wasn't required I definitely would have dropped it. He is a nice person, but not a good professor. His lectures are long and boring and we fell behind in the syllabus. He dumbs down his lectures and only cares about style not quality of papers. I will not take him again.
I honestly thought that I will dread Lit but he actually made it interesting. I learned a lot of small facts that made the course more enjoyable. His pop-quizes are what I hated but he makes sure that you do more than 8 so that he can drop the lowest grades. We barely had any reading assignments for hw so that was a plus!
Awesome guy! He is so friendly and funny that it automatically will put you at ease. He makes all literature fun and interesting and explains everything in depth. He's a very smart man, a fair grader, and is easy to talk to about personal or academic problems. I'm very happy I took him.
The worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. I would rather walk on hot coals than take another class taught by this man. I cannot express enough how awful his lectures, quizzes and papers were. I had to go to the writing center at least 8 times during the semester and could never receive anything higher than a C-. WARNING:DO NOT TAKE!!!!
This course fills the ex ed requirement for English majors who are not education. Dr. Blair did a great job of inspiring my classmates and I to go on interviews, volunteer, and do things that help guide us towards our professional careers. Without him and this class I would not have landed the internship I have now! He is so helpful and supportive!
Dr. Blair is an incredible professor. He truly cares about his students and is makes english class enjoyable. If you get the chance to take a course with him, do it. He greatly cares about his students. Don't think his course is an easy "A", he makes you work for it.
So I know you see online ratings of people saying "Don't take this professor!" and you blow it off like oh I'm sure they just got a bad grade and are taking it out on the teacher. Not the case. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is condescending, mean, and shows no empathy for his students. He expects the world out of busy college students. Do not take him.
This class was the second time I had Blair. Is class is very easy. He gives out quizzes but all the information on the quizzes is what he says in class. You only have 2 four page essays and if you follow the rubric, he'll give you a good grade. He answers all questions thoroughly and is willing to work with you as long as your trying.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken. I was doing better in my EN 400+ classes than I did in this class. Granted, he doesn't make you buy a textbook which is nice but that is the only perk. He was degrading, constantly made me and my classmates feel dumb, and wouldn't directly answer questions. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF U WANT TO BE HAPPY.
Before taking Dr. Blair I heard mixed things from my peers. This semester was the hardest one I have had yet- and it was mostly because of him. Not only does his feet being dragged distract you from the content of the course, the literature is difficult to understand. He gives a lot of extra credit but there are many things wrong with the course.
Easily the hardest thing I have taken this semester. if you don't take notes when he speaks you will fail all his quizzes. Interrupts students frequently too interject to get his point across. Will ask you to interpret something and then turn around and tell you your interpretation is wrong. Talks down to students frequently. DO NOT TAKE.
Dr. Blair is a very caring professor, who will make time for all students. There was a lot of reading and writing involved, however he provided very detailed rubrics so that you understand what is expected of you. Lots of extra credit opportunities to take advantage of. Super supportive professor who wants his students to succeed.
worst professor ever!!!! DO NOT TAKE HIM !!! I ended up dropping the class because he was the absolute worst. He was mean and unhelpful to all students in my class. all of the kids in my class were in tears every time he had a pop quiz because we all know we would fail, BECAUSE HE DOES NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS OR GO OVER THE RIGHT MATERIAL
DrBlair is someone that you must respect for the amount of knowledge this man holds in his brain. He is so funny and gives students so many chances to do well in his course. Nothing is gained without work of course, but he makes every class enjoyable. I highly recommend everyone to take him. You will learn a lot and interesting stuff too.
Dr. Blair is clearly intelligent, but fails to make the course reasonably approachable. Refuses to accept any interpretations that differ from his own, and is always happy to explain why he is right and you are not. Almost seemed like he was correcting his own feedback after I revised my first essay. Ultimately not worth the trouble, dodge him.
Will make you feel incompetent as a student. His way is the only way. Do the extra credit. This is a EX ED requirement, get an internship and save yourself the waste of time.
Going into the class I had a good feeling about it. THAT CHANGED VERY QUICKLY. Quizzes are unannounced and scattered with material that there is no direct answer to get from his lectures or book. Mr. Blair fails to make the course approachable to students in a reasonable manner. Run as fast as you possibly can!!
One of the worst experiences at Monmouth University. It's sad to close out my degree with such a disappointing teacher performance. Prof. will shut down all opportunities to succeed in many different ways. Desperately, desperately fails to make the course reasonably approachable.
This class was a terrible experience, actually one of the worst at Monmouth. The Professor has poor grading structure. To add, a 30 page syllabus at the beginning of the course with content of nothing but unnecessary information. I took the class again in summer with a different professor and passed with flying colors! An "A"! BEWARE. STAY AWAY!
Aside from the comments about work/grading others have already described, Dr. Blair is incredibly disrespectful to his students. I found his condescending comments (unrelated to my work itself) incredibly unprofessional and unnecessary, and several other classmatesmost of them womenhave had similar experiences. Avoid this sad, narcissistic man.
Professor Blair is knowledgeable in the topic that he teaches, but that's the end of the positives. He grades subjectively, shoots down opinions that do not align with his own, and is seldom helpful when struggling. There's too much work for a required undergrad course, and he is extremely unclear with his direction and expectations. Just avoid.
If youre thinking about taking Prof. Blairs Superheroes English course, stop. Its my 3rd week right now and Im trying to drop his class or something because Ive had it. Hes extremely inconsiderate, never has any notes for you to write down as hes lecture heavy, and his pop quizzes and exams are all administered orally. Got an F+ on my 1st.
If this class wasn't required I would have dropped it by now. All this man does is lecture with no notes, PowerPoint, or supplemental materials. His lectures are random and off-topic but he expects you to write down every word he says and then pop quizzes you on it. Nobody passes the quizzes and he gives you an F+ to make you feel better.
Dr. Blair's American lit class has been the worst experience I've had so far at Monmouth. I am a good student who gets As and Bs but Blair makes that pretty much impossible. He gives you Pop quizzes on everything you've learned every other class, and they are extremely hard. He is so rude to his students and EXTREMELY inconsiderate. DO NOT TAKE!!!!
he is actually the worst teacher I have ever had. all he does is talk nonsense at a million miles an hour for an hour and a Half and he expects you to retain all the information for a pop quiz every week, which you have no chance of passing. he has no sympathy at all and he has no problem making you cry in his class. do not take his classes.
This was one of the worst classes of my entire college experience. He gave a pop quiz every other class and he wanted ridiculously specific answers. He would mark your question wrong for one missing letter of a word. He would never directly answers questions and never gave you a direct answer for your grade. He never used campus and only did email.
By far the worst professor ever. He expects everyone to know exactly what he is talking about, pop quizzes that you learn nothing about, talks in riddles, never answers questions, lectures are meaningless. I would have never taken this class if it wasn't required. His quizzes are impossible to pass, you get an F+ just to make you feel better.
Positively the worst class I've ever taken in my 4 years of college so far. For a 200 level class, the quiz content is laughably difficult and specific. No homework assignments to help your grade. No notes online, so if you miss class you're done for. Hopefully you're a good note taker because if you aren't you have no chance of passing this class.
In my four years of being an English major, I had never received a D+ on a paper, been told that my writing was "weak" and that I don't try hard enough. (Mind you, I am an A-/B average student who's in two honor societies). No outline/notes, pop quizzes that were worded so strange I thought I was dyslexic, rude, & take points off of everything!
I took this class for credit and I really wish I dropped it because I got stuck with it. Worst professor I had at Monmouth University! He doesn't post notes/outlines or anything online, he provides guidance for papers but always contradicts you, he's inconsiderate, a harsh grader. The quizzes were so hard and I take decent notes! Do not take him!
I swear Dr. Blair is not that bad. You literally just need to participate and engage with the content and I promise the class will actually be kinda fun. He is actually really helpful with papers, you just need to put in the effort to ask questions and take his feedback into consideration. The class can be hard, but it is NOT undoable. I enjoyed it
I don't understand why Dr. Blair has so many negative reviews. I enjoyed his class and as long as you do the work and participate, you will get a good grade. He helped me improve my writing and he is very knowledgeable in what he is teaching.
He continues on his lectures even when the class is over and gets offended if you start packing up you things. Very lecture heavy if you don't take good notes you won't pass. You ask him one question and he goes on and on and doesn't even properly answer your question. He is very annoying and overall wouldn't want him as a professor again.
just don't take it... it's not worth it
Professor Blair is a great teacher and is very passionate about what he teaches. Study and take notes a lot and you should get great test scores. Participation also matters and attendance. No textbook or homework.
Professor Blair is a nice man overall, but professor not so much. His lectures are long and he will go to the end of class time. sometimes pass the class time. There are not many assignments besides tests so theres no opportunity to improve your grade. The test has no study guide . THINK BEFORE TAKING!! REPEAT! THINK BEFORE TAKING!
Worst professor I've had. Never explained things, never responded to emails, and never explained tests or lectures. Do not take it you do not have too.
Frustrating
Only grades are a 3 tests, and a quiz or two. Lectures feel very long and boring. There was no structure note wise, he would just talk the entire class time and we were expected to pretty much write everything he was saying because we had no idea what was going to be on the test. Test were difficult and he was an extremely tough grader.
Avoid this class if you have a disability. He grades solely on tests and participation. He will pick on you if you dont participate or lower your grade if you do not willingly do so. If you need learning accomodations, he finds any loophole in the student handbook to not provide you those. No study guides. Tests/grading explanations are unclear.
I understand why people would dislike Blair but if you put the effort in, you will succeed. He is truly passionate about literature and appreciates when his students are as well. He is always willing to talk outside of class about literature. The only thing I get upset about is how stubborn he is which makes it difficult to express your ideas.
Nothing against Professor Blair personally; as a teacher, just did not work for me. Main issue was the lectures. Felt super long + dragged out, it was hard for most of the class to stay engaged & pay attention. Also do not think he was flexible/accommodating foe many students. He gave FEW things to be graded & grading of assignments was intense.
If you don't show up to class, you won't pass, u must be completely locked in the entire time, taking notes constantly. He is passionate and enthusiastic about teaching; he answers questions, and participation is key. He's willing to meet outside of class, but he is stubborn and doesn't typically stray from his ways. Check the syllabus frequently.
Worst professor ever. Do everything you can to avoid taking any of his courses.
He is honestly a nice teacher however I feel like his way if teaching and grading doesn't really help students. It's finals week and I still don't know my grade yet, and his lectures are him talking while students struggle to pay attention. He takes forever to grade and we just got back a test from over a month ago. Don't take if you don't have to
He was an okay professor but I wouldn't take one of his classes again. Be prepared to lock in during class as he lectures a lot and you will need to constantly take notes. Also be prepared to show up to class or you'll miss a lot of important information.
Worst professor. I got a D+. Exams are hand written, 12 prompts, and even writing all of it by hand he will give you a F!! I thought I deserved better & never had trouble writing before in any of my college courses. He's mean and wants to fail everyone. There was 13 kids in my class and we all scored so low and never missed class. Do not take this
No homework. Has very tough, handwritten quizzes/tests. Calls on people randomly like a high school teacher, “recaps” lectures by repeating a lot of the same information. Missing lectures is not advised: memory-intensive and he expects you to know everything he says for assessments. If you look past that, the material is cool and he can be fun.
I regret taking this class. His tests were torture to my hands, and his lectures where he just spoke and allowed you to take notes were not helpful to that either. The class is about superheroes and comic books which sounds fun but do not let that fool you. If there is any other english class available, take that.
I don't know why everyone is giving such bad reviews! I loved him. Although he was very lecture heavy, he always made it very clear what information was going to be on the test. All of his grades came from quizzes/tests. But, he only takes the best 3 quiz grades and averages them. So like if u take 5 tests he'll take the best 3 grades.
