Professor James is very knowledgeable in history, and very respectable. But the lectures are hard to follow because of the lack of visuals and his pace of speaking. The only assignments were the midterm and final, which were submitted via email ... the text body of an email ... You basically don't know your grade til the last day.

Professor James is the reason I became interested in history. His classes are well organized with the outline of what is going to be discussed in class already written on the board. To basically pass or get an "A" in his class all you have to do is write down what his writes on the board in his class. He allows you to use your notes on the final.

If you are a visual learner then this class is not for you, he grades you based on the midterm and final. There is no opportunity for extra credit, the lessons are boring. There is no communication with your peers throughout the semester and no participation. It is strictly about hearing the professor and taking notes.

His class depends a lot on lectures and if you pay attention in class then the mid-term and final won't be too bad, but they are the only things in your grade. Take notes on paper, the final is open note. Write down anything he writes down and pay attention. He isn't a bad teacher but make sure you attend class and take notes.

Should've read all reviews worst prof. I've had. Old professor who uses old teaching methods for 30 years. Says teaching methods now are stupid so he talks the entire class expecting all info to register from his voice and history channel videos. Does not use canvas or email. ONLY 2 heavy exams of writing essays in class. Hard to take notes.

The class is very lecture heavy and the only homework is to show up and take notes. The only two graded assignments in the class are the midterm and final with the final being open note. I really liked this format of teaching but if this sounds awful to you, do not take this class! It was literally the same for both semesters that I took him.

Most of your class time is spent sitting down and taking notes on lectures no homework at all except just be there. Only two midterms based on the lectures so it's pretty important taking notes, but you will have to memorize them. Even after taking the class I see him everywhere around campus.

He is a good professor. He gets off track a bit and can be a little difficult to learn from if you don't take notes, but the class overall is very easy.

Stanley is that MAN! Professor James is by far the best History teacher I've ever had. He goes into detail on the topic at hand. All the notes given are your success in the class, the documentary as well. Overall his class isn't for slackers, so if you care about your grade this is for you.

He is really rude, do not dare to ask any questions he will get sassy with you. His handwriting is horrible and small i could barely read the white board. No homework, no projects, just the midterm and final. Get ready to take a lot of notes and memorize what you can. The tests are only writing about the topics he went through. Not the best class.

Don't listen to the bad reviews. Prof. Stanley is truly an expert. To pass his class, attend his lectures. He does drop for excessive absence. Take good notes and you will be all set. You can achieve an A+ by taking notes and studying them. He is strict and old school but that does not affect the lecture. Give it a shot, its really worth it.

I took this class slightly worried because of what I had heard, but Professor James was excellent. You are only graded on the Midterm and Final Exam (40% and 50% respectively), alongside attendance (10%), but taking good notes and paying attention will help you succeed. The final is open-note as long as you pass the midterm. Excellent professor.

Got an A for showing up to class everyday and writing notes from the whiteboard. Didn't get a textbook. Only had to study a few hours before each exam. His grading scale is forgiving, we got to pick our questions. He's intimidating at first and his handwriting is hard to read but he knows what he's teaching and I genuinely learned from his class.

He is very knowledgeable. I enjoy the structure of the class, lecture first and questions at the end. If you need clarification on a topic, I would suggest to wait until the end of lecture. Professor James is passionate about what he teaches and it shows. If you show up, pay attention, and take notes I promise you, you will pass with a high grade.

Lots of documentaries with his commentary; I personally enjoyed it. Write down every stat/number/date he mentions. Copy whatever he writes on the board. Just TAKE NOTES. Midterm isn't difficult, but you do have to memorize names and events to pass. Overall not difficult if you're good at note taking. Attendance is 10% of grade though, so show up.

The most important thing to succeed in this class is to show up to the lectures and take notes since that is the only material that you will be tested on. Review your notes throughout the week to be ready for the midterm and final which are the only things you're graded on. Make sure to read instructions for tests, as he has a very specific system.

His class is Notes heavy and he makes it hard to even take notes, not only does he talk at low but his hand writing sucks. He yaps abt other teachers being bad teachers for having a slideshow to teach, but then he shows documentary's… God forbid you ask this dude a question, bc he'll give you a rude answer. Could js be me, but he isn't a good teach

Professor James is a really lecture-heavy professor, but he's incredibly knowledgeable about the material he is teaching. The only assignments are the midterm and final, which he preps you for with classes of integrated documentaries and lecturing. As long as you take and review your notes, you should be fine.
