Great teacher. Makes his lessons simple and easy to understand, but it has substance. You leave knowing that you learned a ton. Awesome personality.
I think i'm an average student and he has hard tests. There is alot of stuff on there not covered in class. He's a good guy with a great heart but his tests are difficult for me.
great, funny teacher. really interesting insights into New Testament. no works besides reading
bro. johnson is the best religion professor i've ever had... he's funny and interesting, and he's willing to help if you need it. :)
He is such an awesome professor! He shares some great insights and makes his tests straight from lecture or the reading. He doesn't cover story line because he focuses on more important doctrines. GREAT TEACHER and easy tests!
Great teacher! He really cares about the students and is extremely humble. He makes the class very enjoyable and it isn't very hard to get an A in his class.
I loved his class. He made things very enjoyable and I loved attending class. His tests were kind of tricky sometimes (I think it was just the way I thought), but I loved taking this class from him.
Professor Johnson was, yes, a very nice and funny man. You can tell by the way he teaches that he has a strong testimony of the church. I liked that. Plus, his tests weren't that difficult. You just have to keep up with the reading! Keep up n u'll do good
Awesome teacher. Really fun and insightful. Loves his students and gives you all the answers to the test. However, the quizzes/tests can be tricky. However, I never spent more than 10 minutes (usually only 5) on the test and got an A.
He is so fun! I never fell asleep. He always puts the important, testable concepts on the board. He is very understanding outside of the class setting as well. Excellent teacher and I highly recommend him.
He is a great teacher and it is a great class. I definately reccommend it to others. The only thing is that on his tests he has questions that are difficult and that we haven't really discussed. It was enjoyable overall. He is a delightful person to be around.
He's probably the best and easiest Book of Mormon teacher on campus.
Don't bother reading your scriptures for help on tests because the quizzes are based on opinions and abstract ideas. His quizzes are only 20?s long and so if you miss 3 or 4 than you're already in trouble!Even if you had the NT memorized you wont do well if you don't go to class everyday.
Bro Johnson is an excellent teacher, I would highly recommend him to anyone. His class is fun, informative, and I learned a lot. I actually looked forward to going to his classes. If you pay attention in class and do the reading, the grade will be no worries.
The best religion class I've taken so far. Bro. Johnson is very helpful, very clear in his lectures, and provides all the information one would need to do well on the tests. Make sure you go to class everyday, as missing one lecture will limit your capabilities to do well on the tests.
Bro. Johnson is a great professor! His lectures are very entertaining while still spiritual. The tests are based entirely off the notes, and he tells you EXACTLY what will be on the test.
Br. Johnson is an amazing teacher and the class is easy. You can relax more in that you don't stress over the test and can just let things soak in. He's very friendly and tries to learn as many names as are presented to him by you. I would highly recommend him for any religion class!
He really stinks! He is a nice guy but he does not clarify certain controversia and he says that what he says it is it is the docitrine. If you want to pass this classwith an A, don't desagree with what he teaches (which for being a class for RM's happens daily!)
I don't know where all of these awesome ratings are coming from. Bro. Johnson is very vague about the material on his quizzes, and you need to know everything about every single character. He never goes over storyline in class. No assignments to cushion your grade. Lame class, didnt learn much.
Great guy and very nice, but I didn't get much out of his class. Vague lectures and he goes off on many tangents. I got an A- very easily but I didn't learn very much.
I agree with the last few people. he is quite boring and not funny although he thinks he is. a lot of the things on the tests ask very specific ?s about storylines and characters and so the class is not as easy as everyone seems to think!
Great teacher, easy tests.
I'm not a member of the church and I still loved coming to his class. He's just an awesome guy and made the BoM interesting to learn about. As long as you do the readings on time, you'll have no problem getting 100% on the quizzes (which take a max of 10 minutes each).
Not what i expected, much more difficult than people say, studied alot and thought i did well after tests but got B's. I really liked a few of his lectures but most were rather dull.
His lectures are absolutly amazing and you learn a lot in them. He knows everything there is to know about the BOM. His tests are hard and specific and it is hard to get the grade even if you studied the guides. This is a class you should audit and just go to the lectures.
I absolutely hated this class. Bro. Johnson is a good teacher...in class. He puts far too much weight on his "quizzes" and asks questions that are completely irrelevant. I will never take a class from him again.
I LOVED Bro. Johnson's class. Tests are hard, but everything is from notes, and he tells you what is going to be on the test. He once let me make up a test that I missed in the Testing Center because of work. He is so helpful, and really cares about his students. I will take classes from him again.
I love Brother Johnson. He is such a cute guy with a great knowledge of the scriptures. He really cares about his students too. Quizzes and tests are easy as long as you take good notes in class and do your reading on time. He always tells you what will be on them beforehand too.
I didn't like his grading system. You are graded on 120 questions alone so there's no room for error if you want a good grade. He does know a lot about the gospel but he's not one of the best religion teachers I've had.
I have had him as a BofM professor since before my mission. His lectures are full of the spirit and as long as you stay awake and take notes on everything he writes on the board, the quizzes are easy. I got a 100% in the class and never spent more than 30 minutes studying for a quiz or test. And there are only 4 quizzes, a midterm and a final.
BroJohnson really cares about his students and has an IMMENSE knowledge of the gospel. He's a cute professor who loves telling Mormon stories and jokes. His knowledge of the gospel shows in his lectures. The quizzes can be tricky sometimes, but if you write down what's on the board you'll know what to study (along with his study guide).
Great teacher. Each day greets students and shakes hands with as many as possible. Class made up of 4 quizzes,1 midterm and a final. Tests are easy if you take notes. As he says, "If it is on the chalkboard, it is fair game for the test."
Great teacher, very interesting lectures. Very easy to get a great grade if you take notes, pay attention, and read your assignments before class. Be sure you read before each class, otherwise it is an automatic question missed on your quiz or test, which can hurt in the end.
Extremely nice man, and a wonderful teacher! Class is very doable as long as you go to class, take notes, and look at the study guide. You'll learn a ton and enjoy every minute of it!
I recommend to everyone who is considering this class to drop it. If you want exams that are not even doctrinally sound, unclear, and lectures that are just as thrilling as Sunday School then by all means, spend your tuition dollar on this one (at least you get Sunday School for free). I hated this class and gave the worst student review I could.
His classes were okay, but I really didn't like his quizzes and tests. He focused on the letter of the law instead of the spirit of the law. Asked questions like, "Who told Ammon to return to such and such city?" instead of focusing on the fact that Ammon obeyed. He talked a lot about archaeology and the BofM so if you like that, then go for it.
Brother Johnson is very nice, but he isn't very structured. He asks for questions on the reading at the beginning of class and then we spend the entire time discussing what we bring up. The problem is that he tests us on what all of his classes discuss, whether or not it was brought up in our specific class. I didn't enjoy his class.
good class, but the tests questions are fairly random. just make sure when you study your notes for the test to pay attention to detail of what brother johnson said, not your interpretation. definitely possible to get an A in the class, though...
I really enjoyed this class. I found his lectures extremely interesting, and Bro. Johnson definately knows the scriptures. The tests and quizes were extremely easy, but only if you wrote down everything he said in class. I would reccommend him if you are a note taker.
Let's Face it the Religion Dept. Sucks and Johnson is just another religion professor with a complex. quizes and exama suck they are on Johnson's doctine and random tidbits that no one cares or needs to know. Do yourself a favor find a non-religion dept teacher for this class.
Johnson is a very nice guy, and lectures are fun and entertaining. His tests, however, are terrible. Johnson likes to pick tiny, insignificant details for his quizes and base most questions off of these. You'll never be graded on concepts, just "how many books in the NT did Christ's siblings write" and "what was such and such's name".
A great guy. Was very clear in teaching and had great insights into doctrine and different subjects. Made it clear when speaking for himself of his opinions. Quizzes and tests were easy as long as you took notes from class discussion. He'd accent certain things that would be on the test and they would, word for word. Good class.
bro johnson is so funny and really keeps the evening class awake. his quizzes and final are easy as long as you attended class.
Mr. Smiley. He is a very interesting and nice lecturer, but his tests seem off-the-topic.
He is a nice guy, I took him twice if you take meticulous notes in class then you will do great. If you are a bad note takes don't take this class. A little surfacey, and not really enlightening. Thie nicest guy you will ever meet though.
he is an excelent professor and will help you with anything you need, just ask him and he is very cooperative.
His REl 122 class is awesome, but his 212 class isn't so good. Tests more on the chronology and grouping of books rather than doctrine. It's lame. He's still a nice guy, and I recommend him for BoM classes. However, his New Testament class leaves something to be desired.
Great class, stuck to the scriptures more than other religion professors that I have had. I really enjoyed the class.
Brother Johnson is a really good teacher. He's nice and funny and interesting. It's harder than you think to get an A, even if you feel you're doing well in the class you'll probably end up with a B unless you get A's on all your quizzes. I like the way quizzes/tests are straight from lecture/reading.
Bro Johnson was really fun but his class was kind of hard. I got a lower grade than I thought I would. His quizzes come straight from the lecture. Know his lists.
I really like Bro. Johnson. He is funny and I learned a lot. As long as you take good notes, it is easy to get an A. Your grade is just based on 4 quizzes and the midterm and final. I enjoyed it.
Brother JOhnson is an excellent teacher. His lectures are interesting and he teaches the doctrine of the church. However, his tests and quizzes are extremely tricky. They come straight from the lectures, so take extremely good notes. After every quiz go and check the quiz to see which questions you missed. I did not get an A in the class.
Bro Johnson is a terrific teacher. He teaches with the spirit and still gets through his lessons. He sensitive to the needs of his students. The class is easy if you go to class, take careful notes and do your reading before class!
Stan is the Man!!!!!!! Don't listen to anyone on this sight that says otherwise. Some say that his test questions aren't relevant, but that is because they didn't study enough to understand why they are relevant. Trust me, Stan rocks!!! Take his classes!!! Be happy!!!
I took him for both Book of Mormon courses and they were two of the easiest classes I took. I atteneded class daily, read, took mediocre notes and breezed through the test and quizes.
Bro. Johnson is awesome. The key is to sit by someone in class who has taken from him before. That way you can learn how to study for the quizzes and tests.
Brother Johnson is AMAZING! I love his class! His tests are great too. As long as you go to class and read your assignments, you'll be fine. He's a really funny guy, in a cheesy sort of way. I highly recommend him.
Brother Johnson is the greatest! His love for the Savior, the New Testament and for his students is apparent. He teaches right from the New Testament and the words of the prophets. He doesn't require any of the busy work stuff. Go to class, take good notes(especially what he writes on the board) and do your reading: an "A" is coming your way.
Seriously, my favorite teacher and class i've taken here. I think he is great, i would take any class from him. He is so knowlegable about the New Testament and the class is really easy and you actually learn things. On quizzes/tests if the class average is less than a B he will raise everyone's score. Best religion class i've taken.
good class, make sure you take good notes, since most of the exam/quiz questions come straight from class. pretty easy, once you figure out how he tests.
i didnt have such a good experience. there were some classes that i got a lot out of, but even if i did, hardly any of it would be on the tests. if youre a good multiple choice test taker ull be fine, thats all your grade is, 300 pts from 3 quizzes (20questions each), 300pt midterm and final (30 questions each--if you miss one, its 10 pts off :( )
I took good notes, attended every class, and always felt the spirit there. However, I apparently can't pass a tricky test to save my life. I learned a lot, but his testing strategy is to trick the students. I am an Honors student with a decent GPA and I got a C plus because his tests are way too tricky. Some people got A's, others C's. Random.
Awesome teacher! He doesn't make his class hard on purpose, but he just covers the doctrine. He's one of the best Religion teachers I've had. It's relatively easy. Pay attention to the details, do the reading, and listen in class and you'll do fine. I'd recommend him to anyone.
I really enjoyed his class. His tests are a little tricky, but what I learned and felt outweighed what grade I recieved. Bro. Johnson is really good at teaching the New Testment. I would recommend this class to anyone.
Brother Johnson's class is pretty straight forward. What he puts on the board is what will be on the quizzes and or tests. He gives you a review sheet, you study that you'll be fine. If you don't go to class and take good notes your grade will reflect it. Tests/Quizzes are all multiple choice. Great class, I learned a lot!
A phenomenally great teacher and not a hard class at all as long as you attend everyday and take good notes. This is key! If you take good notes and pay attention, you should get an A. Sometimes 1 or 2 quiz/test questions might be a little tricky. Overall, very insightful class and not that much studying is required...
This class is my least favorite of all the BYU religion classe I've taken. I went to class everyday, took good notes, and studied for each quiz and test, and it was still my lowest grade. Quizzes and tests are factual and strictly on his lectures. Johnson is a good guy, but I didn't like him as a teacher. I would take someone else if I could.
He's a great, nice guy, and a pretty okay teacher. The only thing I didn't like about his class is that your grade is based on only tests, nothing else, so could be tricky... Study the notes and you should be fine on the tests.
It wasn't bad, but I didn't feel that the tests necessarily reflected what I learned. Most tests were 20 questions. Ridiculously easy to get 17 or 18 of them right, but 2 or 3 are just plain tricky (especially if you know the answer). I got an A, so I'm not bitter, but some questions were just no good. He's a really nice guy, very helpful.
Easy, easy class. Write in your notebook what he writes on the board, and study it for 15 minutes before each quiz and test and you will get an A. Studied for 20 minutes for the final and got 100 %. He is a extremely nice man, and if a asks a question he didn't teach on his quizzes he will give everyone in the class the poins.
Stan is the man! If you go to class, pay attention, take really good notes, study for an couple hours before taking the quizes you will get an A. You take 4 quizes, and you drop the lowest one. 1 midterm, and 1 final. The questions are occausionally tricky, but easy. Only homework is to read the New Testament. It was a wonderful class!
Best religion teacher I have had yet! He teaches things in the scriptures that you can't get just from reading them. Adds lots of scholarly stuff, which is a nice change from just doctrine. Loves the gospel, and it shows. Easy to get an A, if you just pay attention!
This class was very interesting and very easy IF you keep up on the reading. Don't take the quizzes too lightly; they are a major part of your grade. Brother Johnson is entertaining and I would continue to take classes from him in the future.
I didn't really like his tests and quizzes as I felt like they dealt too much with hard and pointless details rather than the doctrine or even the story line. I didn't care too much for this class or Brother Johnson's teaching style.
Lectures are interesting but does include the typical BYU religion prof self created doctrine. However, grade is made up of 4 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final. Not much to work with. Tests are ridiculous, always had about two questions that you had no idea about or were worded strangely. Take this class if you want a B+ or A-, you won't ace tests
Wonderful class, great teacher until you take your first test. If you are good at abstract questions about the scriptures, then he's your man. One of the questions on his tests was When did christ return to the Americas the third time in the book of mormon? If you already know the answer you'll do great. If you don't, you'll do aweful in the class.
Tests mostly cover the lecture. He gave reading assignments, but we hardly had to know them. If you know how many people the ship held on Paul's third mission to Macedonia, you'll do fine.
Tests are based 90% on what we talk about in class, so attendance important. to do well on tests, its best to do study groups and review together. I learned a ton. good teacher. easier than most religion classes.
Great teacher. You need to attend class in order to know the stuff on the quizzes and midterms. He really opens the New Testament and is pretty funny about it too. Great guy, I sat in the front almost every day and loved it, didn't fall asleep once.
Awesome, very good at teaching. As long as you read and take notes you will do great.
Brother Johnson is amazing! I absolutely love his class. He gives great quotes and he gives all of the answers to the test if you pay attention!
Bro Johnson is the man! His lectures are very essential to his tests but they are very enjoyable at the same time. He really incorporates great quotes from the prophets and his lessons are very spiritual. The only complaint against his class is that there are only 3 quizes and 2 tests, so if you screw up on one it is hard to bring your grade back u
He's a really great professor. He really knows his stuff and wants you to do well. It's super important that you go to class every day, because that's where you get the majority of the test answers. Only problem is that it's hard to pull your grade up if you bomb one test. It's a really informative class.
To do well, you have to learn his style. Don't over study, just take the best notes you can and study them. Most of what you need to know for tests and quizes is what he says in class. It really helps to go to two different classes of his to hear his lectures twice, that's what I did and it helped so much.
Really nice guy and interesting lectures. Attendance is mandatory but you want to come anyway. Heart of gold! Quizzes are basically tests because they count for so much. Tests are okay...pretty good percentage of stuff that was on the quizzes. However he drops lowest quiz score and 1/3 boost in grade for reading "jesus the christ" or a similar book
Professor Johnson is one of the best professors hands down. His lectures are very spiritual and I left each class wanting to be a better person. As for the tests and quizzes. Those that say Professor Johnson is tough don't actually attend his lectures. Attend class, pay attention, take notes, and this will be your easiest and most favorite class!
Brother Johnson is nice and his lectures are pretty interesting. Don't expect an easy class cause I definitely wouldn't classify it as that. Advice: Make sure you go and look at each quiz to see what you missed because his questions ALWAYS pop up again in other quizzes and in the midterm and final. And study everything, not just the study guide
His midterm and final are worth 1/3 of your grade each, the quizzes are the other third. He teaches false doctrine and his tests don't even come from the book of mormon but from what he says (which is not always correct)! Really nice guy though but not that easy, i got a B.
I love Prof. Johnson's class. He gives 4 quizzes, which are 20 questions each, and then a midterm and a final, which are both 30 questions each. I thought the quizzes and test were really easy IF you go to class and take notes on everything he writes on the board. Most of his questions on tests come from the what he writes on the board. Got an A
Great guy. His tests are basic and, if you attend every class and write all that he writes on the board, you will easily get an A.
Great teacher. You have to take tons of good quality notes to do well on the tests, but he does well in making sense of the new testament.
Brother Johnson is a stud. I have taken him 3 times, gotten an A every time. All you have to do is take notes in EVERY class and read, and study for an hour before each test (if you paid attention in class)
Stan is the man. Great teacher. The only homework you have is to read the scriptures. Fantastic class. Very insightful. One of the best teachers at BYU.
Awesome, just go to class and you'll do fine on the tests. He covers concepts not the minor details.
Stanley J. is the best! His class is easy but very interesting; I learned A LOT this semester. Just show up and read and you'll ace the quizzes. He genuinely cares about his students and what he teaches. One of my favorite professors at BYU - HIGHLY recommended. :)
Brother Johnson is a great teacher and his class doesn't feel you with busy work or papers. His lectures are great and you learn a lot. If you take good notes in class and study the review sheet, and read your scriptures it should be an easy A. All of your points come from the tests. So you need to do good on them but they are easy.
Bro. Johnson is an excellent teacher. The class is more about learning then memorizing. Johnson makes the class light-hearted. He gives study guides for quizzes that make the quizzes quite easy as long as you pay attention in class and keep up on reading.
Stan is the man. hes very genuine and teaches to allow his students to succeed. every semester he attends another professors class all semester so he can be a more proficient teacher. his tests are straight forward and you can review them afterward
Brother Johnson did a fantastic job! I thoroughly enjoyed attending his class each week and loved the insight I gained. He is a great teacher and really loves what he does.
Stan Johnson is my HERO! He is an AWESOME BOM teacher. I LOVED his class, but you CANNOT miss! His quiz and test questions are STRAIGHT from the lectures. I found group study very helpful.
Brother Johnson is a really good teacher. He loves the gospel and knows it like the back of his hand. There is not any homework and he gives really good notes. He gives quizzes and they are hard at first but if you understand the reading you will do well. I have heard lots about awful BOM teachers but he is really good.
Brother Johnson is amazing! I really enjoyed his lectures! His tests are based on what is written on the board during class which makes it easy to know what you will be tested on. He doesn't have hard test or trick questions like "all of the above" I love his class and he is a great teacher!
uh, LOVE brother johnson. i seriously couldn't have gotten through bom without him. he explains all the chapters extremely well and the tests aren't very hard as long as you read and listen in class. take bom from him for sure.
Brother Johnson is my hero! Take any class from him that you can! His quizzes are easy and he only has a midterm and a final. BEST CLASS EVER!
Brother Johnson is amazing! His quizzes are easy and there's no dumb "scripture journal" like all of the other religion classes. If you can take his class, DO IT! you won't regret it
I loved Brother Johnson. He is so knowledgeable on the Book of Mormon and sheds so much light. He teaches profound doctrine in a very humble way. His class is not at all overwhelming. He wants his class to not be stressful at all but he wants us to come away with a strengthened testimony. I loved his class. I highly recommend him.
He's so much fun. Tests are easy as long as you read. Always making jokes but you learn so much. I was not happy about taking a religion class but he totally changed that. I'm taking from him for all my religion classes. Love him!
Bro Johnson is certainly a nice guy. His style is super easy to understand so most people tend to like him. But if you sincerely want to learn new things, I wouldn't recommend him. Most of the doctrine he teaches could be readily understood by reading the scriptures on your own. So if you want an intellectually stimulating class, this isn't it.
Excellent teacher. You'll learn a lot from him. Make sure you go to lecture and take notes cause questions from the quizzes come from class and your readings. He'll give study guides for all quizzes and tests. Only 4 quizzes,a midterm and a final.
Brother Johnson is a great religion teacher! He knows how a religion class should be taught. He wont try to trick you on tests, and everything on the tests is taught in lectures. He is funny but knows his stuff. Class is enjoyable and you learn! If you go to class, take good notes and study for the tests, you will do well! Take Stanley Johnson!
Brother Johnson is a great teacher, but he was a little bit too much like a seminary teacher for me. A little bit too easy
Pretty awesome and decently easy. Nice guy. The only thing that bothered me is how he would only address the boys when the scriptures talked about missions. Those scriptures apply to all missionaries, not just men.
I really liked brother Johnson. His class was fairly easy but you learned a ton at the same time. the only I would recommend is make sure you take good notes and attend EVERY class!!!! I made that mistake for one of the quizzes and ended up doing poorly. Overall, great class, would highly recommend it!
Excellent class; would recommend Bro. Johnson to anyone. He is a great blend of good solid learning, very reasonable grading, and the work is pretty light. Definitely take good n otes, that's the best way to do well. I just might take all of his classes!
I loved Pro Johnson! He is a really good teacher and brings new meaning to the Book of Mormon. As long as you take good notes you will do great on the test. Please take from him!
Brother Johnson really knows how to bring the spirit into his lectures. You do have to know your stuff, but that isn't hard to do with just a little studying. Definitely recommended 100% Stan is the Man!
TAKE THIS CLASS! Brother Johnson is the greatest and I am so grateful I took him as my professor. He is so in love with the gospel and the youth of the Church. The tests are extremely easy if you just write down everything he writes on the board. No stress in this class. He is just wonderful. The final is easy if you take advantage of resources.
Almost all of your grade is based on 4 quizzes, 1 of which is dropped, 1 midterm, and the final. I thought the tests were way easy like Primary easy. Get someone who uses a computer in class to email you the notes study them for an hour before the quizzes/tests and you're golden.
Stan is pretty much a stud. His class is nice and easy. Kind of reminds me of seminary in high school, just the basic principles with some humor mixed in. Take his classes!!
Bro. Johnson's was really great. The only homework we have is to read a few chapters of the Book of Mormon everynight. There are no other readings besides the book. Because of this, I felt that the class primarily focused on the doctrine. He is also a funny guy, so that helped me relax in class. I really like his teaching methods.
Great Teacher. Very insightful.
Brother Johnson is a great teacher! He focuses purely on the doctrine, and tests what he teaches and what you read. He doesn't try to trick you-he lays out what you should review in his study guides. I would recommend him for any religion class.
Stan is the man!!! He has been the best teacher I've ever had! Sure, you could easily not go to class, get the notes from someone else, and still do well, but go to class, it's amazing! I learned soooo much, and he really makes you feel comfortable. He really cares about his students and his lectures are interesting and funny! No doubt, TAKE HIM!
Brother Johnson is WONDERFUL. He knows the Book of Mormon so well, and identifies with the class so well, he's a STUD. He's absolutely hilarious, just such a great guy. PLEASE, take a class from him.
He is an amazing teacher! I enjoyed him so much. He loves the scriptures and loves sharing it through teaching. He also is funny and if you do the reading and go to class the tests are a breeze! :-)
Bott who? Stan's the man! Very funny, very doctrinal, keeps quizzes and exams easy but you learn! By far my favorite religion professor ever. DON'T HESITATE TO TAKE HIM, BEST RELIGION PROFESSOR ON CAMPUS!
Awesome teacher, 4 quizzes and one test, plus a final. Study guides for each of the quizzes and tests, and you get to drop your lowest quiz. Really funny guy who knows his stuff. I loved coming to class each day. He lets you look at past quizzes.
I agree 100% that Brother Johnson is the best religion professor on campus! He is just as good (if not better )then Randy Bott, however he has humility which is not in brother Bott's vocabulary. Absolutly take his class!! I loved it and looked forward to going to it every day!
I loved Bro. Johnson! However, I studied for every quiz and both tests and I failed them all. You have to take really good notes about everything he says to do well.
Great professor!! Easily my favorite religion class. His tests are easy because the study guides he gives are the test questions practically word-for-word. He is so humble and so caring about all of his students. Take from him if you can, his sections fill up fast!
Bro. Johnson was an awesome professor. There are 4 quizzes, lowest one is dropped, a midterm and a final. All closed book but he gives you a study guide for each one. Study all of them and you'll do great. Make sure to do all the ready too.
Brother Johnson is very knowledgeable about the scriptures. He is a really fun guy, and makes class enjoyable. He tells you what to study for the tests, and they aren't too hard. I love his class! I definitely recommend him.
Really great teacher!! He is funny, uses a variety of sources to keep class interesting, and is easy. His test questions mostly come from the material he writes on the board. He gives a study guide so you know exactly what will be on the test. I love love loved him!
Bro Johnson is def. the man. He is the perfect difficulty level for religion class-easy enough, but hard enough to make you think a little. He cares a ton about his students, and knows that a grade in his class means less than the spiritual side of things. Knows BOM really well. Tests are relatively easy. He is funny, but still humble and caring.
WOW! Awesome! I loved his class! Not super hard and very intriguing. Very helpful on tests and clarifying class material.
Super easy class. Just follow what he says on the study guide and you'll pass the tests and midterms.
Stan is the Man! He is a great teacher. The class is amazing. Take him any chance that you get! I have learned so much and my testimony has grown. He doesn't do busy work, just enough quizzes to make sure you understand everything. Great Teacher!
If you want an easy class where you still learn a ton, then this is the class for you. Bro. Johnson is truly amazing. He has so many insights into the scriptures, but puts them in a way that you can easily understand. My testimony has been strengthened substantially while taking his class. If you get the chance, definitely take it from him!
Stan is a great guy. He's one of the nicest people I've ever met and he is a fantastic teacher. Before taking BoM I did not enjoy the BoM at all, but Stan's incredible insights and great knowledge of them have taught me to appreciate them much more
Amazing teacher. Always brings the Spirit into class and SUPER easy to get a good grade as long as you have a good grasp on the BOM and take lect notes. No papers. Only grades are reading pts, 4 quizzes (drops lowest) a midterm and final & 3 ex cred quizzes. Some questions on tests answer themselves, always all multiple choice. Take his class!
Brother Johnson is so nice and funny. I loved taking BOM from him! He easily brings the spirit into every class. He really cares about his students and will go out of his way to help you if you don't understand.
No required texts except your Book of Mormon. Homework is only reading the scriptures every day; there are no papers. The tests are always multiple choice, and the review sheets describe exactly what will be on the tests. The test answers are usually taken word-for-word from lectures, so attendance is mandatory. Stan is humble and knowledgeable.
I love this man! Brother Stan Johnson is incredible!!! He is hilarious, interesting, spiritual, funny, clear, and understanding. His class doesn't require anything else than reading the required readings, the few quizzes, midterm and final. He's great. I recommend him totally. I got an A. Great class!!!! He has SO much experience too!
Johnson is awesome! His tests on what material he gives you. Study guides are crystal clear. Only a few questions on his tests aren't on the study guide, but usually its common sense or relatively easy questions. I thought he taught spiritual principles really well and it was the only class in my schedule I didn't mind going to.
Johnson is the bomb! His class is easy and he makes the scriptures really clear. Study guides cover everything on the tests and he doesn't assign any extra homework. Make sure to do the reading reports but he offers extra credit quizes for missed work. Take him he rocks!
Brother Johnson was all right, he was a fun guy, but I felt like I didn't learn much from him. It seemed like we were just memorizing where things were in the Book of Mormon and a few key concepts.
Brother Johnson is a great teacher, really funny, and is really passionate about the Gospel. It's really easy to get a good grade as long as you go to class and write down what he writes on the board. He gives you study guides for all quizzes and tests. I loved this class!!!
Stan's the Man!!! Bro Johnson is an incredible teacher. He's funny but also brings the Spirit to every class. He teaches everything in a way that is easy to understand. If you keep up on your reading and write down everything he writes on the board, you'll get an A no problem.
Professor Johnson is amazing! He makes every class fun and interesting, while maintaining the spirit. There are reading assignments and many opportunities for extra credit. There are 4 quizzes, a midterm, and a final, and all of the questions come straight from reading and material presented in class. I would definitely recommend taking his class!
Amazing!! One of the best religion teachers at BYU! He focuses soley on the scriptures and doesn't make you fill out silly packets like other professors. Tests are totally fair because he provides great study guides. His lectures are hilarious. I loved the class. Take him!
Bro Johnson is FANTASTIC. took both halves of BoM from him-A for both. He brings the spirit with love and humility and tests on just what he teaches-no random/obscure facts. Makes a personal effort to get to know his HUNDREDS of students, so willing to help! 4 qizzes, 2 midterms, reading reports, and extra credit. Take from him if at all possible!
I loved Brother Johnson!! I'd definitely take a class from him! I don't know if you can, but try to print off the study guides in advance and take notes directly on them. The only negative thing was that I felt like I was in the testing center a LOT for the class. But Brother Johnson was a great professor!!
I have taken from him for both sections of the BofM. He is such an amazing teacher. Tests and quizzes are easy if you go to class and take notes. Know the study guides that he gives you and you will do great in this class. Take from him if you can!!!
Very funny and nice guy. Everything is straight from the scriptures. You only have to take quizzes (and one is dropped) and mark that you did your reading. Very easy if you just do the work and study a bit for the quizzes.
I greatly enjoyed Brother Johnson's class. His lectures were entertaining, but informative, and he gave enough information in each lecture to help you complete the amazingly helpful study guide he gave before each quiz. I would highly reccommend him.
Best religion teacher ever. No papers, and as long as you come to class most of the time and check out the study guide the tests are cake. He teaches Book of Mormon and New Testament and I took 3 of the 4 classes he teaches from him and got As in all of them.
Brother Johnson was such a good teacher! I had him for both Book of Mormon classes and I loved them both. His tests are super easy if you know the study guides. Go to class and take notes and filling out the study guides is super easy. I learned a lot and did very well in his classes.
Absolutely amazing BoM teacher! I think the best part of his class was just the questions he would take in the beginning. At one point, I asked him what I thought was a very doctrinally-difficult question, and right away he whipped out a couple of quotes from the brethren that completely answered it. This guy is a genius!
He's ok, he has a tendency to emphasis different things in different sections, so you don't always get the hear what you need to know for the tests. but not a hard class
Bro. Johnson is a very funny guy and class was interesting, however, I won't take him again. His tests were really hard for me because I didn't know what to expect, and some of his questions were tricky. I'm an A student and his class was the only one I didn't get an A in last semester. There were no reviews or TA so you're on your own for tests.
I love brother Johnson. He's just like a grandpa. You can tell he loves those he teaches. His tests can be a little tricky. Make sure to study the study guides he gives you well! Plus a little more than is on them. His tests are mostly on lecture so take really good notes.
Bro. Johnson means well, but may be the most boring teacher I've ever had in my life. He starts class with a lame joke then proceeds to ramble about the BOM with useless phrases and thoughts that he deems appropriate. His tests were TRICKY and CONFUSING because you never know what to expect. And there were 6 of them. Stupid class. Don't take it.
Brother Johnson really cares about his students & it shows. I have to admit when I go to his lectures I almost ALWAYS fall asleep, even when I'm rigorously chewing gum. Lots of tests, but if the whole class is doing poorly, he will make sure the final is easy. Also, as long as you're trying and attending class, Brother Johnson WILL give you an A.
Stanley Johnson is perhaps my favorite prof. on campus. He sincerely cares about his students and brings a refreshing, new understanding to the Book of Mormon. He drops your lowest test score and is very clear in what he is looking for. He does not try to trick/mislead his students. I would take any and every course offered by Stanley Johnson.
He's a wonderful teacher! He is very funny and such a sweet man. He's always telling jokes and you can tell he cares about his students. He gives you exactly what is on the test in the lectures. As long as you take good notes, you will get at least B's on them.
Good note taking is ESSENTIAL! Hes a great guy but his tests can break you if you do not study exactly whats in your notes! STUDY! Lots of tests that are against your grade. Not an easy A but he's brilliant and knows so much about the bom/life/everything. He gets to know his students on a personal level. Wonderful man/teacher
I absolutely LOVED brother johnson!! He has such a love a knowledge of the scriptures and the gospel. I really enjoyed his class he's a really caring funny guy. You must attend class and take good notes and study them to do well on his tests but his tests are fair and it's completely possible to get an A.
Prof. Johnson is the best. He teaches straight from the Book of Mormon but also integrates in a lot of quotes from the brethern. He is super funny. He is really approachable and willing to help his students. If you read the material and do well.
If you take notes in calss and study them it is an easy A
B of M is easier than New Testament, the tests are tricky. I never got an A on one quiz and I have a 4.0 normally. 4 quiz, 1 dropped, attendance mandatory for note taking, midterm and final. Hes a helpful and sweet man.
The test make up most of your grade. They can be tricky. The wording sometimes is confusing. There is a lot of memorization (like what verse/chapter is this in who said this in what order did they say this) as long as you take really good note you will do ok. I realized I needed to treat it more like a class than a place I could learn by the spirit
Good guy, easy class. You can learn a lot if you want, but it is almost too easy to just show up and get a good grade. The final honestly took like 10 minutes
Brother Johnson is great. If you come to class prepared and take good notes, it's an easy A. The only reason I got a B is because I didn't do that for the first two quizzes, but he tells you everything that you will need to know in lectures so don't skip too much! Loved this class.
Really nice professor. Quizes are tricky but midterm and the final are easy because the questions come from the quizzes. Take really good notes in class to do well on the quizzes. Reading reports are due every day before class, just remember to submit them.
Bro Johnson was my favorite professor this semester. Great sense of humor, clear, and just a really lovable man. His tests are multiple choice and very easy to get a good grade in. Would highly recommend. You can't go wrong.
This was my easiest class. Brother Johnson is very kind, and lectures are interesting. The tests are pretty easy if you attend class and write down the things he tells you to. Attendance was mandatory and we had to check off our reading online.
Really nice guy. Cares about students, and cares about the subject. Says silly things sometimes, but so do a lot of the religion faculty. (He's more interested in pedagogy than scholarship.) His class is like Sunday school or seminary: good for you if not stimulating. Tests include tricky references to the class discussions so don't miss.
He's very interesting to listen to; his class is kind of like seminary. Make sure to go to class because although he gives you a review sheet for quizzes and tests, most of the information is from his lectures.
He wastes so much time in class it's silly. It's a 50 minute class twice a week and a good 20 minutes of each class was spent on useless stuff. He has these "quizzes" that are really tests that bring the total test count for this class to 6. The tests are largely on lecture but the questions on reading are obscure and weird. Would not recommend.
Brother Johnson is the absolute best! He is the sweetest man you'll ever meet, and he genuinely cares about his students. He was fun to listen to. Take notes on what he writes on the board and key words that he'll repeat. The tests are easy, if you study for them - he helps you by giving you a great review sheet. LOVED HIM.
I LOVE STANLEY JOHNSON. Easily one of the most sincere, humorous, and polished lecturers. His tests are largely from class discussions, but they can be tricky. No curve, but he drops one quiz. I would definitely recommend him. Definitely the best BOM professor.
Brother Johnson really is a superb religion professor! It's hard to not pay attention! He basically gives you the answers to tests, you don't have to do as much work as other classes. I tried to go to other professor classes and couldn't handle it and switched back to Johnson! So reliable!
Brother Johnson is a wonderful BoM teacher. The class structure is fairly simple, with a few quizzes, three to four midterms, and a final. The lowest quiz score will be dropped. Brother Johnson has been one of my favorite religion teachers so far.
The best religion teacher I have had! Basically like seminary, but with a totally different take on things. I really looked forward to his class. Wonderful personality. The class is super easy! As long as you take notes and listen, tests are way easy.
He is the best! He is the nicest, funniest guy, as well as a great teacher. TAKE HIM OVER TAKING BRO. MARSH. Johnson gives you a study guide for each test that clearly lays out what will be on the test. Attendance is needed in this class, because the tests are very lecture-based. I now know more than I ever have about the Book of Mormon!
This was an amazing class. Dr. Johnson has really figured out how to teach the New Testament. He was so good at taking confusing stuff and making it seem so simple. At the beginning of the semester I was a little shocked that we weren't going to be able to use our scriptures on our quizzes and tests but it made me learn the material.
Brother Johnson is a wonderful Book of Mormon teacher. His lectures are interesting & invites the spirit into the classroom. Some of the quizzes can be challenging, although you're given a study guide. I suggest studying with someone else taking the same class as that helps a lot.
Great class. Great Professor. Take Book of Mormon from Johnson.
You wouldn't believe how easy this class is. Plus, he's such a kind-hearted, humorous man. I'm taking from him again.
STAN the MAN! I have taken him for Book of Mormon parts one and two and am taking New Testament from him. He is not a tough teacher but you do need to read and pay attention which is easy because he is so great! Definitely worth it! I wish I could have his class daily!
Brother Johnson is seriously my favorite Professor ever. As long as you do your reading and pay attention in class you will do well. All you have to do is review for your quiz/tests and you will do fine. I highly recommend Brother Johnson!
He is a great professor!! If you keep up with the reading and really follow the study guides/reviews he gives you, you'll do great with tests. Pay close attention to the things he writes on the board during class.
He is an awesome guy! Well worth taking BOM or any religion class from him. he is approachable and willing to answer questions if needed. follow the study guides he gives you and you will be set on his quizzes and tests...you wont regret it
TAKE THIS CLASS FROM BROTHER JOHNSON! His class is sooo easy but so worthwhile. I learn so much every day and am always inspired to be better. If you want an easy A and to feel the Spirit, definitely take this class.
Bro. Johnson is funny yet highly spiritual! I loved coming to class and I learned a lot. The quizzes and tests come straight from the notes, so they aren't too bad
I absolutely love Brother Johnson!!! He is the cutest man ever. As long as you do your BOM readings and go to class, you'll be good. He really loves his students and the gospel and it really shows. What I also loved about him, is that he didn't do any ridiculous reading guides. We only had to read the BOM in sections and he also gives studyguides!!
Do not take this class unless you know everything and can interrupt scriptures in a scholar's perspective. Tests were ridiculous and I took notes and paid attention to everything. I do not recommend this class unless you want to fail a religion class.
Johnson was a pretty good teacher. His tests were mostly easy, although he would occasionally throw in curveballs that there is no way to study for. Sometimes his lectures were based too much on answering random questions from students. But aside from that, he knew his material extremely well, and he is a very kind man and a decent teacher.
Brother Johnson is a great professor and a great person overall. He is very kind and it's easy to tell that he loves what he teaches. Easy and interesting to learn from him.
Bro. Johnson's class was not hard if you do the readings and take notes in class! For the midterm, quizzes, and the final, he gives a study guide and the questions cover what you discuss in class. He is really knowledgeable with the scriptures, and I really enjoyed his lectures. I definitely recommend him, and I hope to take New Testament from him!
Super easy class. It's got to be the easiest BOM class at BYU. Read the assigned chapters and memorize everything he writes on the board and you'll get an A. Easiest class I took this semester, but I also learned a lot. Bro. Johnson is brilliant.
Bro Johnson is a great guy & his class was interesting. However, I felt the tests were a lot harder than I originally expected & thought should be. They never really got easier even though he does drop your lowest test grade. As long as you pay attention to what you're reading & memorize what he writes on the board & says in class, you'll be fine.
I loved going to this class! Brother Johnson explains the Book of Mormon so well. He gives study guides for all the quizzes and tests and if you do them you will do great on the tests. Make sure to always come to class because a majority of the test is from what he writes on the board during lecture.
ok so brother johnson is the funniest man i have ever had as a religion teacher. he loves teaching and he loves his students. go and ask for help if you need it. you will be thankful for having him as a professor. simple requirements and has extra credit opportunities.
This man is amazing. The class wasn't super easy -- I had to study and take lots of notes -- but his lectures were fantastic! He brings in lots of quotes from the prophets and explains difficult principles in a pure, unadulterated, down-to-earth manner. Best teacher I've ever had. Go to class, because his tests are on the lectures.
He is a fascinating teacher who knows his New Testament very well. He loves teaching and has great insight to the class. If you pay attention in class, do the reading, and follow the study guides you should be well off.
This class was unnecessarily hard. I went to every class and studied for every quiz and still continued to do poorly. There is homework/reading due before every class period and he takes attendance. His lectures are interesting, but laptops and electronics are not allowed. He is very strict about that. Pretty much to a fault. Wouldn't take again
Brother Johnson's lectures are super enjoyable. He is very personable and funny. He tries to be pretty clear about what will be on the test. Basically if he writes it on the board it's important. He gives study guides before each quiz and test, which is helpful. Still found the tests and quizzes to be slightly challenging.
The class itself is super easy. The only homework is reading the assigned chapters. Pretty much everything he writes on the board is on the quizzes, so attendance is mandatory, but paying attention is not. I found the quizzes very easy, but his lectures are rather dry.
Brother Johnson is so sweet and funny. He tries to get to know as many students as he can and I feel like he's my grandpa! The only assignments are BoM readings and 4 quizzes, a midterm, and a final. He drops your worst quiz too. The tests are directly from the study guides, and if you go to lecture you should get a good grade!
the only homework is to read the book of Mormon. there are quizzes about every week but he goes over the storylines and spiritual messages very well in class so you are prepared. I always feel the spirit in this class and learn so many new things about the book of Mormon. take his class from professor Johnson!
TAKE THIS CLASS. Why are you still here? Go sign up for it right now. I learned so much from his class, and I loved attending every day (which is mandatory). Simple and straightforward quizzes and tests (4 quizzes, a midterm, and a final) and helpful study guides. Only homework is reading before class. I loved learning from him.
This was an excellent class! I really did learn tons about the New Testament and was always engaged and wanted to come to class. You will not regret taking this class, and I would recommend it to friends. There are quite a few tests, but they aren't overly long. If you study his reviews you will do fine.
Four quizzes, a midterm and final and daily reading made up the entire grade. Every quiz felt like a test, they were are really difficult and required a lot of effort and studying. Good overall class I learned a lot, just hard test material. And yes I have been LDS my whole life.
Bro Johnson's classes are difficult, but you learn a ton. A midterm, final, four quizzes, and reading points make up your score, but you can drop your lowest quiz, so that's nice. I'd recommend Johnson.
Johnson is a boring teacher, and he has unrealistic expectations for a religion class. If you want to be spiritually edified, this is NOT the teacher for you. If you want class with clear-cut assignments and tests, this is NOT the teacher for you. So disappointed, will not be taking from him again.
Brother Johnson is clear and concise when he teaches. Everything on the tests has been covered in class. He is engaging. It is like your grandpa is teaching your religion class. You will feel comfortable in his class.
Bro. Johnson is the best! Does require some studying for quizzes, midterm, and final, but overall is not hard! He gives study guides for everything, and these help a lot. Plus, he knows a lot about the scriptures. Interesting lectures. I always learn something new or see something from a different perspective from his class! No writing assignments!
I don't know what the people who said no electronics or that lectures and tests are unclear are talking about. Brother Johnson is a kind and caring professor. His lectures are precise, and He covers all the material you'll need to know. Easy class. He can be a little cheesy, but he's a great teacher for this class and he KNOWS the New Testament.
Love this guy! He is very clear and you can tell that he loves teaching. His jokes are really funny and I wish I had known about him earlier. Take as many classes from this guy as possible!
You have to study for his tests, but as long as you do, you can easily get an A. Make a friend in that class so that you can get the notes from them if you miss a class. Funny guy and a really good teacher. I wish I would have taken the first half from him too!
STAN IS THE MAN. He is a good mix of spirituality and concrete knowledge. Highly reccomend. He gives study guides for his quizzes and tests. Four quizzes, one midterm, one final. All you have to do for daily assignments is read and report. I would recommend having a class google doc study guide for tests.
Stanley Johnson might be my favorite person on BYU campus. Super friendly, very funny, and incredibly spiritual. If you're looking for an easy religion class combined with spiritual edification, this is the class for you!
This class was boring, but easy if you do well on tests. Review and it is a piece of cake.
Funny, KIND teacher. Lectures not very organized, no slides, more like an Institute class. I over-studied for tests, so made it harder than need be, but hard to tell what will be on the tests, even with study guide (too broad). Pay attention to what he writes on the board!! Reading required, but no time per day requirement like some. No papers.
Nice easy religion class. Just go to class every day and pay attention.
Absolutely amazing teacher. I learned so much from his class. He's great lecturer and will keep your attention the entire semester. I loved going to class each day, and the quizzes and tests were not very difficult. Loved It
Brother Johnson is a really good guy! It gets tough to pay attention in class, so just pay attention to everything he writes on the board because that's what's on the test. 4 quizzes, midterm and final all in testing center, and daily T/F reading quizzes on if you read or not. Take this class!
Full of charity. Write down everything on the board, that's 95% of what you will be tested on. The other 5% comes from your reading of the Book of Mormon. The quiz and test study sheets really come in handy. Review your quizzes and tests. Very spiritual man and class. Bro. Johnson loves to learn peoples' names and loves everyone. Easy class!
This is a great Religion class. Not there to weed you out or to scare you away from going to college. One of my favorite classes here at BYU. Very good tests if you pay attention in class. If you like the Book of Mormon, you'll enjoy this class very much. Highly recommended.
Brother Johnson is such a personable, caring professor. He has a profound knowledge of the scriptures and really brings the characters to life. Get ready to see stories and doctrines you've known for years in an entirely new and highly edifying light. Now, go your way and SIN NO MORE!
BROTHER JOHNSON IS THE BEST. I looked forward to every class. No busy work, tests are straightforward, and he is the best person you'll ever meet. So genuine, kind, and wonderful. He teaches you by the Spirit and makes the effort to get to know everyone. Take this class, you'll love it.
He knows his Book of Mormon. It's incredible what he can teach you. If you attend class and take notes, study those notes and you'll do fine on the tests. They aren't bad.
Brother Johnson is such a fun teacher! The tests are pretty easy if you know the study guides. His lectures are great and he's good at talking about the spiritual lessons. You can get away with missing class once in a while without worrying, but the classes are not boring. Highly recommended!!
Brother Johnson was an amazing professor in Book of Mormon. The tests are not hard at all if you review the study guide. He is so friendly and invites the Spirit in every lecture.
Brother Johnson is an incredible religion teacher. There is no outside homework besides reading the Book of Mormon. The study guides are extremely helpful and I personally thought the tests were simple and it is very easy to get a good grade. I loved his lectures, and he taught me so much because he truly knows the BOM like the back of his hand.
He takes each student seriously and learns everyone's name even though there are multiple classes of 100+! Visit him during office hours - he'll help you with anything you need for the class, anything. Also, he encourages you to review the tests and write down anything so you can do well on the midtermfinal. Easy tests if you take notes.
Brother Johnson is an amazing teacher. I didn't think that I would like religion classes coming into my first semester, but it was definitely one of my favorite teachers. He is just the cutest old man. The tests are easy as long as you take good notes and write down what he writes on the board do the study guide. TAKE HIM. You won't regret it
He is a great teacher with a plethora of knowledge! He is super helpful and the class is easy as long as you study the google doc study guide! Definitely take it from him!
There's a reading assignment every day of class, and quizzes in the testing center every two weeks. Brother Johnson is an excellent scholar of the scriptures, and I learned so much about the New Testament from him. I would love to take more religion classes from him!
Stan Johnson is the best teacher ever. He made Book of Mormon so insightful and he is a great and caring guy. You have to take notes and attend the lectures, but he tells you exactly what is on his test, so study and you'll do absolutely fine. I would highly highly recommend him
I really enjoyed Brother Johnson, he is super inspiring and has great incites to the Book of Mormon. As long as you attend the class, take notes and study the Google docs you'll pass easily.
Professor Johnson loves his students. He is wonderful at bringing the spirit into every lesson. He knows the Book of Mormon and helps you recognize things you've never thought of before. He doesn't test you on random obscure facts from the text, rather, he teaches the doctrine and expects you to learn what he teaches. Attend, study, and you're fine
Brother Johnson is this cute, funny, little old man that feels like my grandpa. I love learning about the BOM with him. He really cares about his students and tries to talk and get to know each one of them before class. You definitely need to study for his tests, but pretty much everything he writes on the board is what you need to know. Love him!
Brother Johnson really cares about his students. He works to learn everyone's names and always brings the spirit in. Study hard for the tests because those make up most of your grade. I loved this class!
Brother Johnson is such a good professor. I loved going to lectures and he brought the spirit in every time. He doesn't give homework besides reading the Book of Mormon. There were four quizzes in addition to the midterm and final. If you study, they're easy. I'm looking forward to taking REL A 122 next semester with Brother Johnson!
I don't care what any one else says, Stanley Johnson is absolutely THE BEST religion professor at BYU! Easy, inspirational, best lectures ever! Really, go register for his class right now! Seriously, why are you still reading this? GO! DO IT!!
Professor Johnson is AWESOME. I looked forward to going to Book of Mormon every single class period. He brought the Spirit so strongly, and also has the best sense of humor. He's like everyone's favorite grandpa. If you went to class and took notes, the tests were easy. He doesn't assign papers or projects like other professors. My favorite class.
Great professor and worked with me after I bombed the midterm. Awesome guy, taking more classes from him in the future.
He truly cares about his students and enjoys what he does, which makes the lectures so good. I truly learned a lot from him and will take his class again if possible.
I love Johnson! He is sporadically really deep with hush-hush doctrine mixed with focusing on a lot of straight-forward but visceral truth .He is friendly and honest, and the tests are straightforward. Do your reading, write down what he emphasizes when he's lecturing (you'll be able to tell by his voice). He's so great, I'm taking part 2 from him.
I am so glad I got to have Brother Johnson as my first Book of Mormon teacher ever. It really helped me to have such an awesome professor during my first semester.
Great class with enjoyable lectures. I wish Professor Johnson taught every religion class!
He is a nice guy, but that's it. I didn't enjoy his lectures at all. It seemed as though he was trying to show the students that we was a self righteous guy that always follows the spirit. And his test are ridiculous with questions "from our discussion in class..." and a few of the answers are correct, but you have to choose the correct answer.
Stanley didn't teach me the Book of Mormon doctrine. He taught me HIS doctrine. His own twists or opinions of what was written in the scriptures. Don't get me wrong, he taught truth usually, but he tests you over the way he interprets what's in the scriptures, not what's simply written in the Holy Word itself.
Brother Johnson is amazing. He is such a sweetheart and cares so much about his students. The class isn't too hard, but you definitely need to study and do the reading in order to do well on the tests. He takes attendance but I don't think it counts for very much. He teaches with the Spirit and I learned a lot about the Book of Mormon.
Bro Johnson is awesome. He is really funny and loves his students. There are four quizzes but you can drop one. Someone usually makes a google doc and that is super helpful. You have to read the assigned chapters for each class but no assigned reading time length. Easy religion class, learned a lot more about the scriptures.
I love Professor Johnson. He is such a sweetheart. He's just the sweetest. He is very friendly, kind, helpful and approachable. He is also very knowledgeable and gives great lectures! As long as you keep up with the reading and show up, the six tests are very fair and easy. And you can drop one too. I'm so glad to have taken Johnson's BoM classes!
I love Professor Johnson he is super awesome. Make sure you do good on your midterm or you are going to have to get a really high grade on the final to get an A in the class.
Decent professor. Simplifies the material so it isn't very hard. Unfortunately though, oftentimes it feels like he's teaching us his doctrine rather than the scriptures. He also has about 12 quotes from various apostles that he cycles through as an answer to any possible question a student poses- the depth of knowledge is questionable.
If you go to class and take notes, it's an easy A. Everything on the tests and quizzes are what he writes on the board. All other points are attendancereading based.
I LOVE Brother Johnson! I also took him for New Testament part 1. He is such a genuinely kind person and he wants to get to know all of his students and remember their names. He is very clear on his lectures and study guides about what is needed to do well on exams. Take his class! I learned so much from him and it didn't require too much work.
Professor Johnson, despite his enthusiasm for the gospel, tends to come up with his own, very specific interpretations of the text. I feel like I haven't learned much about the Book of Mormon at all. I have heard that he's better with New Testament courses, but this class was very frustrating.
I took both the 1st and 2nd half of BOM and the 1st half of NT from Johnson. For the 1st half of BOM, I had a rougher time because I was falling asleep in class and not taking notes. The 2nd half was much easier once I realized that I had to take notes on lectures and specifically whatever he writes the board! Do that and you'll get an A easily!
Bro. Johnson is just awesome. He's a funny, easy-going older man who loves the gospel. He knows his stuff and cares for his students. Tests are super easy, never DIDN'T get over 90%--he gives a study guide for each one that is specific so you know what's on the test. Just read a few chapters each day, go to class and take notes, and you'll do fine.
Brother Johnson was a good teacher and very funny. He is a very genuine guy and teaches well. Almost everything he teaches is on the tests, but there are a few things that are not.
Brother Johnson is absolutely hilarious. This class completely changed my life. He always has a new, interesting insight, which drastically changed and strengthened my testimony. He admits when he doesn't know the answer, & he always backs what he teaches with what prophets have taught. Loved this class. I never wanted to miss, and I'm a skipper.
Stan is way easy, take really good notes on lectures and you'll ace the tests. He is very nice and willing to help if you go into his office hours, wants his students to succeed.
Bro Johnson is a great teacher. He has some hilarious comments, and most of what he discusses in class is on the test. A few things are from the reading and further individual comprehension, but he usually clarifies in class. 4 tests throughout the semester, plus the midterm and final, but besides those the only other grades are reading journals.
Brother Johnson is the best. Don't take Book of Mormon from anyone else.
Stan "The Man" Johnson is just the greatest guy! Love the way he teaches BOM, he's so funny and nice. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Taking all religion classes from him.
Bro Johnson was a great guy. Overall, he made us take 4 quizzes (tests) and a midterm and a final. The midterm and final were easy cuz it had the same questions as the quizzes. He teaches his opinion, which is kind of annoying. Make sure to write down everything he says, even quotes from bretheren cuz it will be on the tests.
Brother Johnson's class was amazing. He is such a funny guy, a cute grandpa type. His class is extremely easy. Come to class and take good notes. He gives a study guide for each test including the midterm & the final, do the study guide and you will ace every test. HW is reading in the BOM and then writing a paragraph each time about what you read.
This class was a lot of fun. If you go to class and listen to the lectures, you'll get by just fine.
I LOVE Brother Johnson! I recommend him endlessly! Compared to other religion classes at BYU this class is a walk in the park. Study for 1.5 hours and you'll get an A on every test. Brother Johnson is a great guy and incredibly in tune with the spirit
I love Bro. Johnson! As long as you attend lecture, take notes, and do the readings (aka daily scripture study) you will be fine. Do the study guide and you will pass the test with no problem. He is super funny and has a lot of knowledge about the BoM. I would recommend him to a friend in a heartbeat. Do what you're asked and you will get an A
The best professor I've had in the Ancient Scripture department. He helps you understand the teachings of the Book of Mormon, and it's not awful. He gets that religious education ISN'T your life. Pay attention in class, write down what he puts on the board, review the study guides, and you've got an A.
Professor Johnson is the most caring, sweet, and down -to-earth guy! He's that older, cute kind of man and he connects with his students very well. He's really chill but expects his students to work for their grade. ATTENDANCE MATTERS. He's pretty funny too! A lot of corny jokes that really break the ice. His lectures are great! Definitely a fave!
Johnson was hilarious, inspirational, and super easy. As long as you pay attention in lecture and review the stuff he says, you'll do just fine in the class. His lectures were entertaining and spiritual, and he managed to balance humor with seriousness in a great way.
Stan is the Man. Take it from him.
Professor Johnson is a great professor, but his tests are many and difficult. Take his class for the experience. If you need a good grade or an easy religion class, look elsewhere.
Brother Johnson is great. He's the grandfather everyone wishes they had. If you don't know what's that like, take Rel 122 from him. Lectures go by so quickly because he loves what he does. His enthusiasm rubs off on everyone in lecture. Best religion class taken at BYU.
Wow. He's the most genuine and sweet professor you could ever have. I feel so privileged to have taken Book of Mormon from him all year. I'm sad he's retiring (well happy for him of course). He will be missed at BYU.
Brother Johnson is an adorable professor. His lectures were pretty good. He had 6 tests, but thankfully he reused a lot of the questions and they were not hard to get good grades on if you studied the study guide.
I LOVE STANLEY JOHNSON!!!!!! He is probably the kindest soul I have ever met in my life. Do you love your grandpa? Well after you meet Stanley Johnson you will wish he was your grandpa. He isn't that old he is just so nice and caring. Great class to build your testimony but still get an easy A. Would definitely take a class from him again.
Brother Johnson is the best BOM teacher out there. Hands down. Easy class, super spiritual and insightful. Easy reading assignments.
This professor was great
