He's very nice and easy to talk to. The material can get difficult but you can always ask a question in class or see him during office hours. He really wants you to do well in his class.
Mr. Max is a really nice man. However, he just seems so flustered and on the go during class. He makes so many mistakes and the class corrects him. Hes a goofy guy. However, his review sheets are amazing. Literally lay out the test for you including the number the question will be on the test. Take him! He may be unclear, but this makes up for it.
He does make mistakes during class, but if you have any prior knowledge of Trig or Algebra1&2, then you'll completely understand what he's talking about. His study guides make it almost impossible for you to fail the tests. TAKE HIM. easy A :)
Not an excellent teacher. Moves increasingly fast and attempts to cover a ridiculous amount of material. Attendance is mandatory; he heavily utilizes class time and teaches non-stop without taking time to explain vital steps. Lots of homework questions. Exams were challenging, but study guide was helpful. I would stay away from this class.
Overall, the class was a good math course. However, he is stuck in his ways and attendance is mandatory. I NEVER wanted to go, but I was learned the material and did very well in the class. He truly cares about students learning.
He is the most adorable old man! He is very good at explaining things, but he gets flustered about only having 50 minutes. He doesn't have time to teach most of the lesson...so it's a lot of self teaching.
DO NOT TAKE! He is ridiculously difficult to understand and gets many of his own problems wrong. Tests are different from the study guides. Avoid if possible.
He knows his stuff. He just rambles a lot and it's easy to loose focus. He cares about your grade However, DO NOT TAKE THE NIGHT CLASS! I had him for three hours every Monday and he would stuff chapters in one lecture.
Really easy class. Basic algebra with some simple trig at the end. Impossible not to get 100% on all the homework. Tests can be a little tricky because they are online, but he always curves them. Added 10% to first two test. Easy A class
Fantastic professor. He can ramble, but overall a great class. He cares about your grade. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you have perfect attendance he will bump you up an entire letter grade at the end of the semester.
Really nice guy. I didn't enjoy being the experimental group taking the tests online, but it worked out in the end. Entering answers into the computer was difficult and one wrong key would mark the the whole problem wrong (no partial credit). In the end he told us exactly what problems would be on the test. Impossible to not do well.
This class is a joke. I feel like Professor Max has a loose screw. Although he is a really nice guy, he gets very flustered and always makes mistakes in class. All the tests and homework are online and the tests are ridiculously easy as long as you do the practice tests the day before. Don't expect to learn in this class but expect and easy A.
He wants everyone to pass.. and because of that you should take this class. I'm bad at math but i'm taking him and im passing. He is annoying at times but he really wants his students to pass. if you do the practice test there is no way you can't pass. TAKE HIM..
He is very nice guy and his very willing to help. But his lectures are very confusing. He jumps to topic to topic which can be hard to follow. He relies heavily on the text for examples. But I basically had to teach myself the material I didn't know or understand. But he gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit for you to be successful
Professor Max really wants you to do well in his class. I'm horrible at math and I didn't have a problem in his class. He's open to any questions and wants to make sure each student is on track. He sometimes seems flustered but that's just him. He's hilarious and super nice. I would take him again if I could.
Pretends to be a cute old man, but honestly he was such a jerk whenever I would go for help. He would teach directly off power points produced by my math lab so if attendance didn't matter you could just teach your self. My math lab is the whole course, tests, quizzes and home work are all online. He keeps you until the last second of class. AVOID
TAKE HIM IF U WANT AN EASY A. sit in the back, or anywhere for that matter, with your laptop and he will never know that you're not even paying attention. All hw and tests are on mymathlab. oblivious old man, cute and funny, but a joke.
Gives a good amount of homework. Literally taught myself everything in this class. Attendance is mandatory and 10% of your grade, but you can just sit there on facebook for all he cares. The only good thing was the practice tests which are just like the real tests.
Max is a really nice guy who wants to make sure his students fully understand class concepts. The homework is online and labs are easy to complete, he gives pop quizzes which add up to be 15-20% of your grade, and 4 exams if I'm remembering correctly. He always makes sure that students are prepared for his tests, there are no trick questions.
EASIEST MATH 115 PROFESSOR!! Take him for an easy A but you have to put in work and learn the material on your own time. He's kinda harsh, puts you on blast and freaks out for small stuff and clueless in class so teach yourself through online homework. Practice tests are like the same thing as the test so do them. He takes attendance everyday
This class may as well be completely online, he even uses the power points from mymathlab. It's an easy A but be prepared to sit through very boring lectures that you don't learn anything from. If you do all the homework and take the practice tests you should get an A.
This class should be online. Max is a nice guy but there's really no point in going to class other than the fact that attendance is 10% of the grade. With that being said, bring your laptop to class and you can just watch Netlfix the whole period and it won't matter. This class is really just a rehash of high school algebra 2. Practice exams help.
does not have people skills and often comes off as rude. very easy to get an A. the practice test are same as actual tests. boring lectures, everyone is playing on their phone or laptop. don't bother raising hand to answer question because he will embarrass you. if you want an easy A i recommend, if you want to learn or care about math don't take.
Classes are SO boring. He reads off PowerPoints. Very difficult to focus for the full 2 hours. His exams are manageable- pay attention and go over his study guides. Quizzes are easy. Homeworks often have extra material he does not cover in class- very annoying. I'd recommend for an Easy A or B but definitely a boring class to sit through.
He is a good guy! He sometimes forgets things and names, but he is nice. He supports all the students, and says we are a good class. The math is pretty easy, you can learn it all from mymathlab on all the homeworks.
He was a nice guy, sometimes. When asked questions he would lash out on students. The lectures are boring and most people are on their laptops. Mymathlab basically taught me everything to pass this class.
I liked him, he's a little snappy when people don't pay attention, but honestly the students in my class were very rude to him. His powerpoint made plenty of sense and he would explain things a million times if you asked him to, uses my math lab which is $104 but it basically tells you all the answers.
He is an okay professor. He is old and can get annoyed easily. It's hard to pay attention throughout the class because he is stays at his computer and teach. He gives 3 exams and the final, some quizzes and one mini-tab assignment.
If you have a strong understanding of algebra the class will be extremely easy. But even if you don't you should do fine. The practice tests resemble the exams and hw is basically completion, so there's really no way to not get an A. He can be kinda rude, but it's clear that's just the way he talks (and it is honestly hilarious anyways)
This class is basically algebra 1 and 2, there's no reason why you shouldn't pass. Show up to lecture because he takes attendance and do the homework in lab. Homework is explained for you on MyMathLab. He can be snappy and call students out but it's funny. Spends 30 minutes of a 50 minute class on one question. Also has an interesting accent.
This Prof is straight up mean. He will bash you if you answer wrong in class and embarrass you. The tests are only hard because they are online and if you put a comma in the wrong place, the whole question will then be wrong. No credit for showing work. BUT, the pre-tests are almost identical to the tests & homework are not difficult.
Professor Max is a good guy, but he's kind of a screwball. He will say things to students that may come off as wierd or rude. However that being said, the class is an easy one. If he didn't count attendance the class would be all online. The only reason I took this class was for an easy grade. The only reason I got a B was because attendance.
Very old school and is frustrated by any inconvenience to him. Doesnt like talking during class and make sure your ringer is off. He gets mad at students when they are simply asking a question or dont understand, makes me scared to ask questions.
Professor Max is a bit intimidating upon first impression because he talks loud and rubs off as irritated, but he isn't. He's one of the nicest professors I've had and gives examples that will show up on the test while lecturing. As he said, this class isn't the hardest class you'll ever take and it isn't the easiest just do the work & you'll pass.
Can be a bit intimidating but he is very caring. He clearly outlines the requirements and what students should do to earn a good grade. 4 exams total (not cumulative), contents are straight from lectures and he tells you what's on it. Couple assignments here and there but nothing difficult, WebAssign are due every week. Take him if you can!
He's a very eccentric and silly man. Class was always funny to attend. He has some go-to phrases that he says a lot which are very entertaining. He may come off as mean due to his loud voice and straight forward nature, but he always tries to make it clear he doesnt mean to be rude. Only complaint is i was supposed to have an A- and somehow got B+.
This is the funniest professor you'll ever have if you take him. He honestly doesn't teach, and its more entertainment for me than anything else. If you took college algebra in HS, then have to take him at Towson, I recommend it. You don't have to do anything and your constantly entertained
Definitely the funniest professor I had this semester. He may not be the best at teaching math but he is a great professor to have. Tests are fairly easy. Do the homework. He gives note cards for tests so they are basically open note. His sense of humor can be taken a bit mean but hes not. Overall, if you want a funny math class take him.
Prof Max is a funny old man. He is bizarre so youll be entertained but dont expect to learn anything because he is an awful teacher. Didnt really teach but rather do math and hope we understood it. Dont take him if you know youll struggle. But if youre good at algebra dont worry too much. Also no parcial credit.
I took Math273 last semester and didn't get the grade needed but if it wasn't for the fact I knew calc already and the coronavirus wasn't a thing would've failed this class
Prepare to teach yourself!! Disregarding COVID19, you're better off taking your own notes in your dorm, Max is NOT a good teacher, he says he'll work with you or maybe give you partial credit but literally never does. Has dry humor but most times is offensive, Id try to find another professor (unless you already know the content and just need cred)
Hes not good with technology and comes off rude when you ask him questions. Tests are only a few questions so if you mess 1 up you basically drop a letter grade. Tons of homework due every week.
Professor Max is one of the worst professors I've had. It is very hard to learn anything in his class. While learning the material, he is all over the place, jumping back and forth from different slides, making it very hard to take notes or just keep up in general. He is rude and unhelpful most of the time. I would never want him as a teacher again
Run like you have never run before. This Professor is the worst teacher in my academic career. He is rude, dismissive, unknowing, dense, and impatient. He fails to lecture in a meaningful way and you have to teach yourself. Tests are heavily weighted and the actual homework is overwhelming. In all seriousness, this class was a farce and a waste.
I have never had a more horrible professor in my past few years. I do not know how his class my be if you are taking it in person, however, if you take it online be prepared to have a class of almost 40 people have average test grades of 65% consistently across the curriculum. He spends most of his time on tangents, and not teaching properly.
Taught myself off of the homework. 4 test which are open note and we can ask for partial or full credit on anything we missed. it wasnt an easy class, but it wasnt hard either. 2-4 weekly homework assignments but they arent hard.
One of the worst teachers Ive ever had. He wasnt willing to work with students during a pandemic. And his lecture style is horrible. Its almost like he is yelling at students. Doesnt like being giving constructive criticism and the homework didnt align with the tests.
Professor Max is not a very good teacher and is very rude when you ask questions. If you can avoid taking this class please do, it will not help your G.P.A. He is not very involved with the class and is not approachable for help.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. It will affect your GPA and he is not approachable. He is rude when asked for help and not very good at explaining math steps.
Mr. Max is a great person.... but he is not the best instructor. It is hard to follow his lectures. Best tip is to look over the PowerPoints and DO THE HOMEWORK! (Doing this helped me understand better in class) He is a nice man and just wants you to succeed, even if he comes off a bit rude.
Never take this class. He is rude to the students. He announced a students own personal grades, multiple times, in front of the whole class. He lectures A LOT and does not answer the questions that a student might have. I watched a video of how to do the topic we were learning about & I learned more than him teaching the lesson. Would NOT recommend
Not the best at teaching or explaining (his style is not for everyone) but he post lectures, powerpoints online aswell as test 1, 2,3,4 study guides. If you want to do well in his class pay attention in class to the problems he goes over or study the study guides by practicing the problems on your own, lots and lots of homework,
Took his class not even a bad math student he just doesn't prep you for the tests. If you take his class (don't recommend) ignore his study guide and just do the HW.
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!! Math 115 is any easy course especially if youve ever taken an algebra class. But Professor Max is very difficult and hard to understand. Hes not a good lecturer and tends to over complicate simple problems. His tests are hard and difficult to understand. No extra credit. I had to drop his class. Just dont take his class
Be prepared to teach yourself. He rushes through PowerPoints and only teacher 1/5 of the chapters and expects you to just magically know the rest.
I am terrible at math. I did not want to take him but, I didn't have a choice. Easy class because everything is on MyMathLab if you keep using the help me solves, it helps you do well on the Test. He always gives students an opportunity to go back to their tests and do corrections for partial credit. As long as you ask for help he will help.
He comes across rude, but he is actually very nice. Weekly online homework assignments that you can redo as much as you want to get 100%. He provides study guides for each exam which it VERY similar to the test. Also after test grades come out he gives opportunity to make corrections to improve your grade. He is willing to help, just reach out.
I literally tried to kms and this man still wouldn't give me an extension on an exam that was 20% of my grade. He also rolled his eyes while I cried about failing one of his tests. Do not take this man's class if ur mentally ill or don't want to be. He's awful. I would rather sit on a hot grill than take this man's class again.
What a bizarre class. The material is easy and Mr. Max is hilarious but he is an awful teacher. He always makes mistakes in his work and he is deaf so he screams the whole class. Don't take him if you are bad at math but if you already are strong in algebra this will be an easy class. He was entertaining and nice but he is not good at teaching.
To be honest he isn't the worst, he does yell a lot and he might come off as rude but he's an innocent old man trying his best to teach us. Theres homework for every week but it is all online and there are a total of 3 tests. Attendance is also not mandatory.
The class overall is easy and straight forward if you follow MyMathLab but it's the professor that made it boring and hard. He comes off as disrespectful whenever you come to him about anything and is unsympathetic (at least towards me). He also rushes through powerpoints and doesnt explain things fully and could confuse you on certain things.
Where do I begin, ok straight up you will pay 60 dollars to have excess to the hw and exams, doing your Hw is very easy, you have infinite amounts of attempts so you will always get 100%. He reads off powerpoints so you basically teacher yourself, so boring but I passed with an A so you just need to do the online work.
Honestly I really liked him. The material is super easy and he lets you use a cheat sheet on exams and gives you unlimited attempts for my math lab so you will easily get a 100% on the homework. He seems scary at first but is actually pretty nice one on one. I would take him in the future.
Professor Max is hilarious, he comes across as grumpy but he truly cares about his students. This was the easiest class to pass. All homework and tests are in my math lab. Study guides are EXACTLY like the tests. This class was great to pass a core with an easy A.
Very unorganized and repetitive in lectures, made us popcorn read bullet points which took way too much time. The content was easy but he makes very complex. Received all A's on the homework + study guides but still did poorly on tests, he blamed it on missing a few classes. Provides no sort of extra credit, is very rude when you ask for help. 0/10
Do not take this class. He is the worst math teacher in towson. He has no clue how a computer works and is all over the place when taking notes because he constantly forgets where he was or has to back track because he doesn't where he is. hes the sleepy joe of campus. also very disrespectful to students.
He's an ok guy. Don't like that he doesn't let us a have a notecard for the exams. Homework due every week. Study the study guide because they are same questions exams will have. He can come out as rude sometimes but I don't think he means it. Attendance is taken at the beginning of every class.
A lot of these ratings are unfair, Professor Max is genuinely not a bad guy, however he makes it hard to understand the content. I rocked a steady D- all semester but thats because I'm bad at math. If you are good at math this course will be really easy to you. But if you struggle with math I'd recommend finding another professor.
Pick him only if math isn't a problem for you. I know math isn't everyone's cup of tea so I can see why his reviews are low but personally I enjoyed him as a professor. He's got old man humor, and very caring. The lectures can get all over the place, but like I said if math isn't a problem, then this class shouldn't be a problem.
Honestly no words. Take another teacher.
He isn't a good teacher. He was very confused while teaching us which resulted in the class being confused. The study guide will be your best friend for all the test. DO YOUR HOMEWORK! He assigns way too much but it could save your grade. Overall avoid this class at all cost but if you have to take it good luck.
Mr. Max is an awesome professor. He is a funny, sweet old man that really cares about his students. I had already taken algebra in high school, so this class was a breeze. Homework is important, he gives unlimited tries so that you can earn full credit, granted you complete it on time. Overall, great professor, if you can take him, do it.
Lecture heavy and at times hard to understand please do not take this class
do not take this professor if you do not understand algebra clearly. did not learn anything in lectures, only by doing homeworks and learning on my own. does not directly answer questions and gets very flustered easily. very big on participation.
idk why hes getting bad reviews. initially he may seem mean, but fr he just a grumpy old man. Attendance is graded, but I only showed up for tests and did fine. Just photomath the MML homeworks. All the exams are based off the MML study guide, like the same exact questions maybe dif numbers. I think hes funny and hes good w emails.
I found Mr. Max to be a great professor despite these reviews. Yes, he is forgetful during lectures but he is also just old. Have some patience. If you show up to class, participate (which he REALLY values), and genuinely try your best, you can do well. The tests are almost identical to the study guides and the homework category is easy points.
Professor Max seems a bit "mean" at first, but he really wants you to suceed in the class. Participation is crucial and also do not come late to class. Just come to class on time, particpate in the lectures, and you should do fine!
I literally had him my first day of spring semester and immediately swapped with another teacher he's a nice guy but is very confusing and all over the place he did't even go over the syllabus just right into classwork. The easiest concepts he makes seem very difficult. This was only the first day of class and made easy review work very hard.
If you have to take math 115 do not take this class! He does not know how to explain the material at all and makes things very hard. Also, he has an attitude problem.
Can't help but laugh during most of his lectures, he's dramatic, funny, personable, and caring. Is he the best? Probably not but he is relatively good with Blackboard and emails compared to other professors. Not going to explain concepts well but it's an easy curriculum and I never gave more than 3 hours a week to achieve an easy B.
If math is not a strength of yours, do not take this class. The professor constantly confused me which made me feel behind. Please avoid this class !
Kept yelling at people for talking and doesn't speak concisely.
The worst professor you will ever have in your life. Does not explain concepts clearly, will not review concepts, and is extremely rude to students and TA's/tutors. Withdrew from his class and switched to a different teacher. Expect two quizzes the first two days of class and to struggle everytime.
Math has always been a strength but this class makes it so hard to understand the curriculum. No matter how well you do on the hw or tests it does not matter as your whole grade is made up by the exams. One time I asked him a question about an exam and it seemed like he did not even know what he was talking about.
Do not take!!!!! I repeat do not take!!! If math isn't your go to or if you're not sure if ALEKS placed you right, please go take another 115. Spends the whole class on one or two problems, very hard to understand the course. Little to no exam review and barely covers topics before quizzing on them. He's funny but should not be teaching.
Is Mr. Max my first choice when it comes to a math professor? Absolutely not. Did he get the job done? Indeed. It is not a matter of if he will yell at you, its when. Keep your head down, stay away from the front row, and you will survive. He gives in class quizzes but he makes it very easy to pass. He's truly a grumpy old man, it's not personal!
Idk whts up with the reviews but my guy Mr. Max is not terrible. He allows u to take home quizzes and if u don't get decent grades on them then that's on you. He's funny too. Just go to tutoring if you need it. Go to class on time, builds character if he does get on you for being late. Lowest score dropped, and he rounds overall grades at the end
Mr. Max is definitely not the professor I would choose first. Attendance is required, and he encourages the entire class to participate. He really is the grumpy old man that people describe him to be, but he cares for peoples grades and how people feel. I personally just wouldn't take the class again with this professor specifically.
Mr. Max is disorganized, grumpy old man, and doesn't know what is happening half the time. He is very blunt and will tell you straight up how he feels. Do not take him as your first choice.
Sweet old man but, assigns homework for sections that haven't been reviewed in class.
The professor does not explain concepts well. if you are good in math you should take this course and get a passing grade if its your only option. But if you struggle like me, take another professor. The exams make or break your grade, quizzes and homework don't make a difference.
Not a bad guy at all. He teaches the concepts through and through and will practically demand all students' participation. So if you have problems with public speaking, he might not be the best professor for you. Not the best with tech. Every other day, class would be delayed because he would have to call tech help. Not the best, but not the worst.
He doesn't know how to use a computer well, he told me to spit out my gum because it was annoying, he didn't give partial credit, and was generally rude to the students.
Terrible teacher. Don't take him if you're not good at math. He doesn't teach, just reviews and expects you to already know everything. I had to teach myself after every class. He's also hard of hearing and ignores questions. I got an A in stats but a D in his algebra class — that says it all. Please take my heed and don't take him!
The class isn't hard if you already know how to do everything, don't expect him to teach you a lot; he's a grumpy dude, but he isn't as bad as most of the reviews say. If you wanna pass, study with the homework, don't expect a lot from him. He also gives you a notecard for exams that you can use, that's the biggest W I'll give him
Professor Max regularly displayed unprofessional and unkind behavior toward students, often raising his voice over minor issues and creating an intimidating classroom environment. His explanations of key concepts were unclear, forcing many students, including myself, to self-teach. The course was disorganized, stressful, and ineffective overall.
Professor Max was a very interesting professor to have... He can be very loud and his teaching style was confusing for many, especially me. Personally, I found that tutoring was more effective than sitting through the lectures. Although he would take attendance each class, attendance didn't really seem mandatory.
Do not take this professor if you struggle in math, he will destroy your GPA. He assigns homework that has 15 questions but with 16 parts to each question, he also just reads off slides and doesn't really go through the math he's teaching. Do not take this professor, you'd be in tutoring everyday.
