Very hard, his a good teacher, but his very hard at grading and he doesnt give a lot of work so if you do bad, you wont pass.
DAMN! I guess these people didn't pass. Yeah he was pretty picky, but, if you learned from your mistakes he would give you some credit. All that said, I still wouldn't recomend him.
This guy isn't that hard, if you learn from your mistakes then you should do ok..i got a B in the class. But I wouldn't reccomend him, cause he's very boring and yes all the writings are based on readings, barely explained by him.
Not hard but this guys is mean!!! If all you care about is improving your writing and learning more by all means take him but if you can not stand that type of proffersor that is rude with everyone take someone eles!
very boring & spend all the class time explaining the grammar workouts. he can spend 45 min explaining a one-side run-on worksheet..also, i find most of his essay questions unclear and perplex.
very boring..he spends a lot of time talking on one subject..does not teach at all..he return a paper i did bad on..and i wanted help..and all he said was that the 1st one is dropped..and do better next time! very unhelpful! so i ended up dropping
Yeah, he's tough and all, but he makes you work hard so you can learn a lot. It's worth it in the end.
if you value your life, you wont take this teacher.
Very good. Funny, in an off sort of way (his humor is not for everyone.) A tough grader, but very fair. Be prepared to use your brain, but the end result is worth the work. You will learn something in this class.
I find it revealing that the most negative reviews of this brilliant man are filled with strange new syntax. Do you really want to take advice from those who call his class "perplex?" For those a little less bored and more serious about an education, take Stan and change your life for the better
This stud of prof will make you want to learn the finer points of the English Language. Wow what a man.
he isnt a bad teacher... just really boring and monotone. he rambles about absolutely nothing important or relevant to the class. his class is not hard at all to pass, just hard to stay awake
This prof knows a lot about required college writing style. If you're a high school graduate full of self-esteem but who doesn't know a fragment from a comma splice or thinks A.D. means "after death, this guy's assignments on writing and critical reading and thinking will really benefit you.
he is very hard. He is hard to grade papers. he wants us 2 stay in the topic. the papers are moslty read articles & then write a paper. all his papers we have 2 do it in class but he expects us 2 have a first Draft, Final Draft, & a Outline.
Marvelous, witty, compassionate, caring
He's tough all right, but that's what I wanted since my goal was to transfer to UCI. I made it, and he helped me do it by showing me how to write college level papers. If you want a competent professor more than a caring or infantilizing one, be sure to take him!
I took his class a couple of summers ago and I passed, so I can't say he is hard, but he does make you think. His class is not for everyone, he is very boring and monotone, and sometimes he could be a jerk, I personally wouldn't take his class again, there is much better teachers in Mt. Sac.
I took him for 67 and barely passed. I don 't think the negative reviewer below could have passed unless Nemeth was much easier. I mean the student's last sentence is a comma splice and it has a mistake in subject/verb agreement for heaven's sake. Also, a teacher can't BE "monotone." I got a 68 B
Professor Nemeth is the best professor I have ever had. He understands Western culture in depth, and his class made me reevaluate my own stereotype responses. Take his class if you can and really want to learn how to write an argumentative essay and a research paper.
He is very knowledgeable and his lecture are clear. I found this class very informative. He expects his students to work, but they will be well rewarded. You will learn a lot if you're willing to do your part.
Highly intelligent. Take him if you can. You will definitely learn a lot.
Great professor! Take him if you really want to improve your writing skills.
I wouldn't recommend taking Nemeth unless you have a lot of time on your hands. If you work, don't take him. He can be a bit unreasonable at times as well.
Mr. Nemeth is the most boring and hard teacher to pass the class. Your grade is based on essays done in class and dont have time to write a rough draft. He is very boring and a jerk.
Difficult teacher! Unreasonable!
This guy sucks ass! He's mean and too old to care. someone please convince him to retire! Avoid Mr. Nemeth, for your own sake! He does not like his job and it shows!!!
HARD... BORING... STRIKED WITH ATTENDANCE... UNREASONABLE...SHAKESPEARE!!
He's hard, but he's an intellectual powerhouse. Teaches at university level, not 13th grade. He's best for serious students, not slackers, wiseasses or people with time management problems. He has clear rules and expectations. People who find him unreasonable probably are shocked to find he doesn't think all rules are negotiable.
He should never retire! He loves his job; he just doesn't love students who behave like jerks and spoiled brats. He has more energy than most people half his age. If you want to challenge yourself and really learn something, take his class!
he is a pretty hard teacher but is very helpful! he is very much into shakespeare. he gives an end of the semester project so be prepared to do ur work. this isnt a class where u want to slack off.
He sux! He expects all his students to be talented. In addition, he always saying:"this is English 67 class; u guys are on college level right now. Don't write essays which are still in high school level." Nevertheless, he forgets that English 67 is a pre-college level. English 1A is the real bumper. Not easy to pass, extremely hard 2 get A
Unless a student is confident about his/her english composition skills, I'd strongly suggest that this class be taken during the year rather than the summer since it's quite hard to get an A. The prof's a great guy, wity, intelligent, likes sarcasm. If you're there to learn, you'll definitely be enriched, but if it was 4 the A, then good luck.
Quirky, but brilliant.
Took his class during the summer, He puts lots of atention to students and does a great job.
hard but educational
Not so reasonable, and his grading system sucks. Not so great teaching style. Dont recommend.
you're gonna hear alot of **** about nemeth, but you should really look at the students who talk**** on him. Dont get me wrong the work load is INSANE at even for bright students its a challenging course...but thats what its like at a university. I devote more time to his class than any other but i get my**** done and i do it well. For those who whine about the work load...BOO ****EN HOO...grow up and take some resposibility
There were way too many irrelevant homework assignments. However, he does make other classes seem easy. The same material can be taught through different methods that are not so difficult. Others who have never taken him, seem to have an extremely hard time. Don't take him unless you enjoy a challenge
He never teaches a thing in the class. All he cares is in class essays. He is so freaking boring. Whoever passes his class must be smartass. Overall, don't take his class!!!!
He is a very nice person but his class is hard. he is very intellegent so sometimes he talks above your head. you will have to work in this class and the work load is insane. defintaly not for people who want an easy A.
He's hard all right, but take a look at the writing of the people who find him too hard and, I mean YUK! The short of it is he's a good teacher.
He's tough as nails, but he knows what he's talking about. he teaches you how to think and write at the college level. Recommended if you're not just out for an easy A!
He's pretty unreasonable and not very helpful when it comes to one-on-one attention. He is also very critical in an obnoxious and rude way.
I found him very helpful.
Nemeth doesn't give enough time to write essays. Research topic was random and didn't help out enough. Also his writing is illegible. He is smart but not a good teacher to have.
He's really on top of everything. He shows you how to write and to read critically. Take him if you're not here just to party or hang out on the miracle mile. Especially recommended if you plan on transferring to a 4-year university.
NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. He claims he will answer uestions, but he will not.
so hard and have a lot of in class essays.
Very helpful. Teaches in a "Black and White" (straight forward) way. Although there is a lot of reading, and writing. Its very benifical for transfering to an 4 yr. university. STRONGLY RECOMENDED!!!
He's hard all right, but he always answered my questions. The only ones he wouldn't answer in class were those from students who wanted him to do their thinking for them when it came to clariying responses to a prompt by telling them that their choices to disputable questions would be his own. Many spoiled brats these days don't want to think.
He must be the among the most intelligent, politically incorrect professors on any campus in modern America. Naturally he'll be disliked by Generation Me retards, since he's the real thing. As the classic writers make clear, anyone who's universally praised must be a pander. No surprise then that the mediocrities are in league aginst him.
He is very boring and MONOTONE(no joke). I can barely hear what he said as his voice is TOO soft. He's a good teacher tho as he requires us to read many articles each day(good intention) .However, If you really wanna get an A in his class...well....i dun really recommand you guys to take him...He's a hard instructor....honestly, just take him if yo
He teaches you how to read critically. He's hard, but good. some of the students were boring but thought they were bored. others asked good questions or gave good answers. that's when the class was the best.
he is a overall good teacher but he only teahes the lesson and you have to struggle on your own to do the writings. He doesn't help with writing he just gives instruction.
Great teacher. Had him over the summer and I recieved an A in his class. Pushed hard for my better achievement, and is someone I respect.
For an old dude, this guy is way hot! And he can also teach. He is very intelligent and witty. I wuld recommend this class.
He is a great professor. teaches at university level. Very smart guy. Good class for people who are not ****ups.
The worst proffesor ever. He is rude and trys to be funny and is really not. He criticizes everything and his speaches couldnt get any more boring.
Mr. Nemeth's attitude is unbearable. He lashes out at students. I had him for summer english (usually summer classes are full) and by the 2nd week there were 8 students. He was so rude to a student who said she was going to drop...he said "go ahead! Get the hell out of my classroom!" He continued to rant and rave. This is a true statement.
Clearly, he's not the professor for "students" full of self-esteem and little else, who are not to be criticized in any way for any reason. He treats students as adults and asks them to rise to the challenge. The summer clas I was in was largely populated by dummies or babies who didn't want to work but still wanted the high, inflated grades they ha
Took 68. Got a B. Only "rude" behavior I saw was from a few rogue drama queen students whose cell phoning or otherwise disruptive behavior the professor wouldn't tolerate, and he called them on it. I'm happy he did so.
He's well-informed, clear, and a very funny guy to students not irony challenged.
I must admit, although his personality may not be the most upbeat, he did prepare me well for 1C. The lectures can be valuable.
straight foward. great teaching mechanics. He is a very whitty and intellectual. just dont get on his bad side and he grades hard but overall hes a great teacher.
Learned alot. strict teacher. helped me with my writing.
He assigns the easiest assignments, but he grades very harsh. He complains about his past students all the time, rather than getting in depth of what he wants. Waste of money and time, i reccommend to NOT take him, at all!
Slackers don't like him. He is a bit tough. His intentions are good though. I learned a lot. He offers help to THOSE WHO ASK! You have to work and put forth the effort in order to get a good grade. I showed up, did my work, READ CAREFULLY, asked for help when i needed it. I got an A. If you are lazy, DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Dude is brilliant. slackers should avoid him as they'll fall behind. If you do all the work, you'll gain alot.
Although he means well, the class can get real dull, the lecture goes on without a break and he doesn't do anything really to keep you awake, resulting in loss of knowledge in his class. so even though he is nice, it's hard to continue to pay attention in his class
He's hard b ut he teaches you what you need to know about writing and critical thinking.
If you dont attend essay writings, dont bother. Although he assigns homework regularly, its not mandatory if you ace the essays. I did like 3 hw assignments and got an A in the class. Not an easy A, but an A is also not hard to get....
you need to do ALL the work. he makes sorta funny jokes, but hes fun to mess with too. just leave ur cell phone off and pay attention
Very good teacher. The students who rate him poor are because they do not understand and do not like the way he teaches. He explains thing VERY well and VERY clearly. Homework assignments are easy and requires usually 1-2 hours. As for essays, most are in class. I believe he hasimproved my English.
Hardest professor ever taken. He He gives no breaks at all! He hates people talking or doing anything else, he tries to joke around, but they stopped being funny after the great depression.
omg he's very hard teacher!!! give a lot of homeworks and he's talk a lots
this class is extemely difficult, and extemely BORING! he grades really hard. save yourself the trouble and take someone else. it will be better for your GPA
He's hard, but excellent. Ill-mannered students shouldn't take him. Foreign students have to be crazy to take him in a six-week intensive intersession. Other students find him a big help, especially if they plan to transfer to a 4 year college. He's the real thing. Caveat emptor!
He's very well organized and returns papers promptly filled with helpful comments. I feel his class has prepared me to move on to English 1A and 1C with much greater confidence. He has some classroom rules about cell phones and required attendance, all clearly spelled out in the syllabus. Slackers seeking for "breaks," therefore should avoid him.
he grades extremely hard. i could not ever imagine any sane person ever liking this class. so so so BORING!!! he will lash out on you if you disagree with something he says. he doesn't even let you chew gum. he's very strict, and does in-class essays. he's not worth it don't take him. the people who said they liked him need some sort of medication.
this class will ruin your gpa. you've been warned
I fount the class extemely uninteresting. Tons of homework/readings.he just stands and lectures all throughout class. No Bueno!
Unusual professor. He expects you to do homework and reading in a college English class, and lots of writing too! Sounds like he's the real thing.
worse teacher i have ever had .
he's not the grreeeaatest teacher but u do learn something in the class, if u can avoid taking his class do that
This professor is really tough. He gives a lot of homework and expects a lot from you. You will work hard for a good grade in his class. He calls out people that are tardy and may even demand that some people leave if they are too late. He has a really low tolerance for b.s. I really liked him because he's actually challenging.
He's "caviare to the general." Therefore, some students may find him boring, but the truth of the matter may be that their level of comprehension or attention span may be too short. In any case, I'm learning a lot, reading challenging writers I'd never have turned to on my own.
he is beyond genius... i think he memorized every single quote in the world. take his class during an eighteen week semester not during an intercession cause he will mess up ur self-esteem and generally your whole being!!! grades really really really hard! gives pop quizzes and assigns loads of homework.
I learned more in Professor Nemeth's class than in any other English class I've had.He knows his stuff and he's also a lotta fun.
worst teacher ever... he graded extremely hard!!!! don't take him if you have any other choices. he will ruin ur gpa.. seriously!!there are no good grades ever in my class.
this teacher is HARD! he expects a lot out of you and is a tough grader.. pretty boring but the man knows his stuff. if you can avoid taking him, do it. oh and u cant use your phones or chew gum in his class.. so brush your teeth good
If you don't put in the work, don't expect to be "given" a good grade. He is a fantastic professor and has strange ridiculous rules like 1) turn off your cell phone. 2) turn off your cell phone.Really people, you won't die if you cant text your bf during the hour long class. Pay attention and maybe you'll actually succeed.
do not take him!!!! he is a hard grader, i mean he is extremely hard in grading. he expects a lot from you, and his class is no fun at all. if you have any other choices, then u will definitely drop him from ur consideration.
Very hard, worst teacher i have ever had. I felt out of control when it came to my grade. Every essay i completed in his class was a D yes I could have done better. But there is a lack of communication and he is very intimidating. He will yell at you if you tap your feet on the floor. Very strict and gets mad easy. AVOID HIM!
I'm going to be honest. If you're a serious student, you won't have trouble with his class. If you're a community college slacker, then you'll probably have to struggle to get even a C. he knows what he's talking about, and he teaches well. He simply has higher expectations than many.
This is the worst teacher i have ever had! He is a very very hard teacher. In this class we had a total of 5 essays, this teacher gave everyone in the class C's D's and F's on the essays for the exception of two lucky students one of which would get an A and the other a B. He gets angry very easily over nothing. I will prob be repeating english 1A
A great prof if you do the work. If you just want 13th grade instead of college though, he's not the teacher for you.
Very hard professor. Not an easy A or B. Do not recommend unless your an English major or your really good at writing. He's a very knowledgeable professor just too hard to maintain
Professor Nemeth is a challenging teacher who requires that you be engaged with the subject and the class. One gets out what one puts into this class in effort. and it's well worth making the effort. You will not forget Professor Nemeth's unique gifts in years to come. Count yourself lucky if you have the chance to take his class.
You have to really work hard when it comes to your essays. His lessons are very insightful.Very low tolerance. Come ready to learn. He's old but very wise:)I had to work twice as hard then any other English class but it was worth it.I learned my weaknesses in writing. Help you to think critically, plenty of it.Prompts are long but they're feasible.
Indeed his class was very hard. He gives difficult readings every time. Your five essays will be based on that reading. Read critically!! However, you don't have to be creative. What he cares about is GRAMMAR. Although his class is difficult, I think he is a very good professor.
Professor Nemeth's class was fairly difficult - it was not too easy, but it was not too hard either. Do not take this class if you are not responsible with your school work, & do not take this class if you can not read at a college level. I got a B in his summer 2010 intersession class.
BOH-RING. No other word for it. Speaks in a really soft, monotone voice. Never hands back homework. Essays are graded rather hard, and he doesn't teach you ANYTHING about *how* to write an essay. Book assignments are pointless.
Not helpful.Wouldn't answer questions, said I should've been listening-which I was. Can't understand his comments on handed back essays-go in your time to ask what it says.Doesn't teach how to write-expects previous teachers have taught you.Doesn't hand back homework.Assigned essays written in class and you can't add new ideas in your final essay.
Half of the students get dropped out. He gives out In-class writing Essay, which you must type them during the weekend. You must never include any new ideas. He is a harsh grader. If you want to get a grade that you put your effort in, do not take his class. It is so boring. He is old, so you get this incomprehensible tone.
This professor is the best, because the most demanding, English professor I've ever had. The few overparted, lazy, or tempermentally disgruntled types who infested my section seem to be the only ones who've posted comments here so far. Take Nemeth for 68 or 1A-you'll never forget him!
Best English professor I've ever had!
He taught me how to write at the college level, something my high school had not prepared me for.
Totally awesome professor, made Shakespeare relevant to me, and I'm not that into lit. Not all students appreciate his talents.
This professor loves what he does, and it shows. He has little patience for cell phones and will not allow you to leave the room to take phone calls. He is a hard grader, but only because he challenges you to think critically. If he taught any other classes, I would take those too.
he's one of the hardest english teachers that i've come across. i took him for ENGLISH 1A in summer 2010, & i got a B. if you don't want to work hard for a good grade, i suggest you don't take his class. his class is only for those who want a challenge.
Worst teacher in the english department and in all the campus...
I don't know if hes the best teacher at mtsac or the worst cause I haven't had them all but I thought he was very informative and fair.
I found his class really challenging. I'm used to getting A's on all my english papers...and he NEVER gave one student an A on a paper the whole sememster. His class is also really boring. If youre a lazy student and are not willing to try...dont take his class
Hard, but I'm learning alot.
Very difficult and demanding. Does not discuss assignments much, and would rather discuss the abstract. He grades very hard and I wish he would explain what is expected or helped us improve our writing. Very strict, follow prompt rules EXACTLY. Class can be very boring since the dominating topic of the lectures is philosophy.
I honestly do not know whether or not I would recommend him. On one had I found his course really interesting, on the other it was pretty difficult to understand what he wanted. I earned an "A" in the course over summer so it is possible to do well. If you struggle at all with English then I would avoid his class but if you just need a refresher go
By no means is an easy teacher but if come willing to work and learn you'll be okay. Great professor for the serious, motivated student. Slackers, don't get out of bed.
took him during winter session hard but I enjoyed it you have to pay attention and do the work in class.
He is a real college professor, so if you are looking for a daycare provider who will coo at you and tell you everything you do is wonderful, you are in the building. There is no way around him other than doing the work. A good grade is possible if you do the work as expected.
Hes super boring. Very soft spoken and hard to understand. Uses two books for homework and is not lenient with grades. Don't take unless you're good at writing. Majority of students in this class got a C.
I would not recommend this professor. Lectures are boring and long. The homework he gives are a waste of time because he does not count them as a grade. And if you are looking forward to getting an A in this class I recommend not taking it because he is a tough grader on essays.. most of the grades he gave were Cs...
Do not take this teacher. You'll find yourself spending more time trying to find the will power to stay awake in this class than actually paying attention. He is extraordinarily mean. Does not count homework. Homework doesn't even help. He uses pretentious language that the average 68 student will never understand. I very much despise this teacher.
If you are looking for an easy way out cross him out of your daycare list. He is a really great professor who makes you think and put what you know into work. Many may say he is the worst because he is straight forward with you but its only because he knows you could do better. His class helped me unveil my writhing strengths.
