boring easy class. basically a lecture class w/ class participation whether you like it or not.
easy graded on only 4 papers and one final
No Comments
Very easy class, do the work and you'll be fine. Nice guy, lets you hand in assignments late. Great teacher.
guy is such a hardass at grading your papers, it sucks. be prepared to totally change how you write
This is more of a writing class than an HR class. I learned more about writing memos than anything that actually pertains to HR. Exceptionally picky about grading. He makes it sound easy but its not. Nice guy, but boring. Heavy on class participation.
one word sums it up: AWESOME!!! and good looking too, i might add.
boring and completly unhelpful
NEVER EVER TAKE THIS CLASS unless you want to become a writing memo major.. ridiculously nitpicky and will tear your paper to pieces and leave you with a bad grade for hard work.. never ever will i recommend this professor to anyone.. WARNING WARNING WARNING!!
The guy is so full of himself that he CONSTANTLY refers to himself in the third-person and makes reference to the same lame stories about himself. Even though the only test is the final, you've got 4 papers to write, two of which you have to present to the class within a week-and-a-half period. He cares more about how you write then if you actually learn anything about training. That's why I'm skipping his class today!
O.k he is not hot for one! Secondly he is all about your writing skills. No tests, except a final, if you get a B or higher then you don't have to take the final. Although, 80% of the class got a D+ on the first paper! Very picky, if you want to improve your writing skills take his classes, if you want an easy class--don't take him!
Quality no nonsense teaching
Only grades are four papers. Makes you do presentations that don't count towards grade. Class participation gives very little extra credit. He likes to repeat himself a lot. I got Cs on all the papers and ended up with an A- in the class; I don't know how that happened but I'm not going to complain.
He really improved the class by the end you all have to admit. He is very nice and probably the most helpful teacher I have had. If you go to him in his office before the papers are due he will critique you and then hand it in the way he suggested and you are golden, I got 3 A's after I went to see him... good luck!
Make sure you know how to write. Very smart teacher, but writing is important. Worked hard on the papers, and he shot them down. A lot of EC at the end helped.
Stay FAR away!! Avoid at all costs. Even if it means delaying your graduation. This guy likes to kick you right in your comfort zone. The emphasis on style and structure for your papers will have you believing you're in English101. A nice enough guy, but your grade is weighted such that 90% of it is still unknown with 3 or 4 classes left!
Stan is the man! Only grades are 4 papers. He demands a different writing style that requires limited personal pronoun usage. Get used to it. Great professor, gives out a TON of extra credit, and you get to bake cookies for the last day of class! Keep It Simple Stan!
Don't buy the book! We didn't use it once. STAY FAR AWAY if possible. This guy loves himself and he is a TOUGH grader. Classes are BORING and he forces you to participate with his stupid extra credit points. Action plans must be done EXACTLY as he wants them or he goes crazy taking off points. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE! I dread this class every day.
This guy is horrible...
Gives lots of extra credit.
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS. he thinks that he knows what he is doing but he has no clue. I learned absolutely nothing in his classes and i took him for two semesters. Grades terribly. Makes everyone participate in class. If you absolutley must take this class, whatever you do dont buy the book it is a waste of money and you dont even use it
I was worried when I saw the reviews. I'm a B- student and got an A in his class. 4 papers that were no harder than most English 102 courses just remember to use rulers for the margins dont rely on microsoft word. Final was not mandatory and could only help not hurt grade. Much better than Craig Crowles.
This guy is a complete knucklehead. He is one of those guys that thinks he has all the answers to life and you need to follow his example to the "t". He is more concerned with petty details (you get a laundry list of paper requirements and almost no emphasis on content). He is boring and full of himself. Pass on this guy.
This guy is a complete joke. If you like people who talk in the third person then take him. His papers are ridiculous and he is the most unhelpful teacher i have ever encountered. I HATE HIM.
Wrote a 5 pg self assessment without using any personal pronouns(I, Me, We, It). So I wrote it in the third person. 3 hours after completing it, I've become a better manager! I now know; what problems managers confront, the contemporary trends in management, basic understanding of concepts, how do apply the concepts. I'm not being sarcastic at all
dont take it youll hate th class because youll hate the teacher
Stan Ross is a great teacher. If you can handle knowing exactly what is expected of you, he tells you everything he wants, do it and it's an easy A/B. All these people complaining are lazy. Ross teaches you to write a great paper, wow he must really be a jerk. I'd take him.
If you're a management major & don't want to be discouraged away from it, take this class with another teacher. Focuses on the most useless points of management, and grades on things completely unrelated to the class on your papers.
Beware.
This professor is a joke. The class is an utter waste of time. He is all about format and not too much on quality. Avoid him if you can.
Taking this class with Ross, in my opinion, will in no way benefit you. He became the antagonist of the class, not a teacher. Grading seemed like a flip of a coin. Sadly, I don't believe he remembered one student's name. Something's critically wrong with Ross' teaching style. It seems most students left angry, confused(w/ grades) and frustrated.
His grading style is ridiculous! You always have to write papers in the passive voice and takes major points off if you do. 4 papers to write; gives the actual questions on the final but he picks the ones that will be asked. He loves giving extra credit. He's obsessed with people being positive 24/7. My opinion DONT take him.
I can't figure why this professor still gets a bad rap. Yes you have to do four papers, so what! He is always willing to help you with your papers. If your grade is high enough you can skip the final. I think people who dislike this professor are afraid of thinking outside the box and if doing papers bothers you your not ready for the real world.
complete whacko! i went to two classes and dropped it cause the guy was so weird and made no sense at all. tries to be more like a therperist then a business teacher. don't take a class with this nut case!
keep it simple stan. you either hate his class or love it. get involved in the class and ask him for help. her really does help!
Ridiculously hard, don't reccomment taking him. Nice guy, just nuts with rules on papers and stuff its pointless and impossible.
Avoid at all costs!!! He is completely annoying and grades us like we are grad students
Best teacher EVER! No homework,no tests! Open discussion in class for extra credit points & 5% added to your final score. 4 papers which have a lot of rules, but you have a sheet telling you exactly what he is looking for. If you can follow directions you'll do fine. All questions on the final are given out the 1st day. Just memorize them. EASY A
STAY AWAY! IF YOUR TRYING TO GET AN F, THIS IS THE CLASS FOR YOU. REDICOLUS PAPERS HAVING NOTHING TO DO WITH HUMAN RESOURCES. LOVES TO GIVE EXTRA CREDIT FOR HIS "POSITIVE WORDS GAME". HE MAKES ME FEEL LIKE IM IN A SHRINKS OFFICE. BY FAR, THE WORST (IF YOU WANT TO CALL HIM THIS) PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. GOOD LUCK!!!
This guy is ridiculous. The papers he makes you write are mostly judged on personal pronoun use and 1 inch margins rather than the content (which is not gone over well) He's probably a nice guy out of class but seriously he should be an english teacher rather than Management teacher. I learned more about the SC in Quality Management
Pointless class, the papers are graded based on formatting not content. If you can write without personal pronouns and without using the passive voice, it's an easy A. He gives a lot of extra points and extra credit, hard to not get an A if you follow his rubrics.
i wrote a comment saying how horrible this guy was. that was before i got my final grades. i did terrible on all of my term papers even with help. regardless, i stayed in class, asked for help, and participatd as much as possible. i so should have gotten an f and walked out with a b-. dont judge a book by its cover. this guy is the man
Only read the negative posts on this professor, you can tell exactly which ones are written by professors. everything everyone says about him is 100% true. plain and simple
Great prof! Take him and you won't regret it. Tells you exactly what he's looking for in assignments and makes it possible for everyone to get an A. No tests and he gives the questions to the final exam so there are no surprises. Lets you add up to 15 points to your final grade with extra credit- seriously how much easier can you get?
dudes a looney toon, hes ok once you get used to him but heres the deal, if you need a good grade take him, i think i have like 25 extra credit points going to my total average! lol, but hes a pain, very nuts about details and there is not point in the class, useless lol, in my opinion, dont take him... but easy grader and you never use the book
He is a stickler for details, there was no A's in my class, only B's & C's. If you want to an easy A dont take him.
Wow.... He does what is easiest for him. He teaches too many classes each semester and can't keep them straight. He makes all classes write the same types of papers even though the classes are on differnt subjects. Good news is if you figure out what he wants you will do well bad news is that you will learn nothing more than personal pronoun useage
this guy is super hot, he's also wicked helpful and he's a super fair grader... LOL.
Took him for an online class in the summer. This guy will not give you examples to anything and will expect you know how to write a report starting Day 1. You don't ever use the textbook and his final is essay driven. He contradicts himself all the time and doesn't like being told he is wrong. His directions are very vague.
Terrible class and professor, walked away from the class with a D and I was happy. Do not take!
If you like your professor to be very specific and to the point great teacher. He is a good teacher but you have to be on point, pay attention to detail. He wants what he wants. Start the cases right away, do not wait until he starts having you do them. This is not a hard class but by now means an easy class.
Stan Ross is a suave guy. There is no homework except for four major essays. There is a lot of extra credit. It is really hard to do bad in this class.
Terrible, simply terrible. I am no longer an enlightened positive person. Pointless papers with no distinguishable relevance to Management. An unsatisfiable egotistical rube. Watch out! He sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good, so be good for goodness sakes.
Terrible class and professor, I strongly advise staying away!
The worst professor at Bridgewater! His class is horrible, he grades only the format of papers and is not clear on expectations. The book was a waste of money, I didn't use it once for the entire class. Do not take his class!!!
Tough class but if you stay on your game, and engage in class discussions you will be fine. You ALWAYS need to be prepared for class, no exceptions.
You will learn nothing in this class except for how to write his business reports to his standards. He couldn't care less about the content of your paper, he only cares about how it is presented. Meet the expectations of his format and follow the rubric and you will do well. Recommended for people who want a mundane class.
I took this class online during winter intersession and did great. Follow his directions and feedback and you'll do great. He also provides a lot of extra credit opportuinites
In management, you're expected to be prepared, capable of effective communication and being able to follow direction. That's what Ross teaches! This is a capstone course; anyone that earns a grade less than a B should consider a job in retail. He's a much easier grader and NICER professor than some have described; in short, a fine educator.
Absolutely the worst management class I have ever taken. His directions for the same project you do 5 times are scattered all over blackboard in different spots his rubric is unclear, and if you don't do your report in the way that he thinks it should be done you suck and that's the bottom line. Hopefully I get a low C.. Time to retire old man!
The class was very well structured. Very organized. Just be prepared for work and you will do fine. He answers questions really fast and grades the next day which is awesome. He tells you exactly what he wants in his reports. All in all a time consuming class but do able!
Stanley C. Ross, classes are joke to the BSU MBA program. His prescribe books are out dated and so is his method of teaching. He wants student to write Memorandums for all his papers in the year 2014. How out dated is that, particularly in 2014. Who writes Memo in this present era? He is the only option. What a shame and waste of time.
Refreshing to find a professor with a PhD who insists to call him "Stan". I enjoyed the class, and he his HUGE on extra credit. I can't stress that enough. Grade consists of four normal length papers, most are pretty easy. Plus you only have to take the final if you get below a B in the class, even if you do its super easy. DON'T buy the book.
Awful, Awful, Awful professor.. stay clear of him.. he's the worst MGMT professor and he doesn't give clear feedback, or respect students concerns. Looking forward to my GPA dropping because of his unmeasurable grading scale.. Class started with 25 people, we ended with 8... that should tell you plenty.
There's 4 papers you have to write in this class, and they're all pretty much the same paper with different topics. He's super picky when it comes to grading but if you follow his grading rubric you'll do fine. My lowest grade was a 93. There's a final but I didn't have to take it because all of my grades on the papers were above a 90.
Horrible teacher. Doesn't help. Asked questions about a paper I had and his response was ":)". Horrible. AVOID
This guy made me change my major. I thought management was all about setting a great example and being a great leader. AVOID and save your money. His reviews are not favorable for a reason.
I just withdrew from this class because this would be the only F I received in my college career. If you are a STRONG WRITER, GREAT CRITICAL THINKER, then this professor is for you. His expectations are high and he accepts nothing less. I enjoy a challenge but not even the writing lab could help me.
I took his MGMT 130 online over the summer and he is the toughest grader I've ever had. All he gives you is a bunch of handouts that just makes it confusing. The only grade received in this class are three reports and a final he doesn't give you power points or anything. You have to teach yourself and he's sends the sassiest emails. DO NOT TAKE.
Prof Ross is a great teacher - he's clearly passionate about his job. In his two online classes, there was 2-3 reports and a final exam (one class - the final was optional if you had an A or B). I actually enjoyed some of the reports. He responds to emails within hours and gives lots of extra credit. AWESOME teacher and I hope to take again.
This is one of the worst classes I have ever taken. I do believe 90 percent of the class failed or withdrew from the class. Clearly when a teacher making good money but does not have to do any actual teaching, it doesn't translate to students learning and passing. Bridgewater has the worst online classes btw. They're well behind the times.
Is he tough? Yes Is he a bad professor? No You really have to put the effort in with Prof. Ross but all it takes I trying and reading his rubric and you'll pass. He gets a bad rap like a lot of other professors who are tough as a lot of students just don't want to put in the work. it's hard work but not impossible and you feel accomplished after.
Only have four reports throughout the whole semester. One you have to read a book for and one is a group project. Gives extra credit for answering questions correct and gives you five extra bonus point toward grade if you attend every class. If you have higher than a B you don't have to take the final
His classes were always very organized, and he is very clear on what he is expecting from students. Had 4 papers which were fairly easy to write as long as you followed the rubric/outline and stayed on topic. The final was a to create a training program and present it. Overall I enjoyed the class.
4 training reports. Follow outlines/guides & example student report and you will get an A no problem. 2 point xtra credit questions sent everyday by email easy way to bump up final grade. Overall an easy class if you can do work on your own. Once you do one report the others will be easy. He always answered any questions I had within 24hrs.
The worse Professor I have ever had.
The worst professor Ive ever had. Brags hes always available for feedback, which he is, but the feedback is his own ego boost. Hes very rude. He pretends he cares about how your doing but he actually just wants it to be impossible. His required text is the book he wrote and will ask you to rate it on amazon after you buy it.
Good professor, but boring class. There is a lot of group assignments which is helpful. Offers a ton of extra credit by participating. Was really understanding and cares for students. Tried to make class fun sometimes but is boring material to learn. Every class is a lecture with occasional activities.
He was friendly, BUT beware of his classes, there would be NO room for creativity, critical thinking and outside of the box ideas. His reports should be a word for word text of what he preaches in class to get a good grade, otherwise you FAIL! No synonyms, analogues or your personal take on issues, strictly what he believes is correct!
Be prepared to read and pay attention to everything he has to say and suggest. Read the case studies well before class and be prepared to answer the questions the next class. There are extra credit opportunities so do your best on the papers and with attendance. Cares for student's future as the real world is not all sunshine and rainbows.
Everything has to be done the exact way he wants it done. There is no room for creativity even answering essay question in a different order than expected results in a failing grade. Only plus is the extra credit he offers
He is a shocker at first but is full of knowledge, witty jokes and really keeps you entertained through class. Take advantage of the tools and skills he has to offer!
Easily the worst professor at BSU, avoid him if your trying to do well. Lol
Stan probably gives the worst feedback i have ever received from any professor. He will take points away from you, lots of them, if the slightest thing is formatted wrong. It will take the hand of God for me to pass this course. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS
Hes not a clear with directions , he wants things done his way and his way only if you dont then F on your essay. Only good thing is his extra credit points which did not help
Made an account just to leave a review on this professor. He is sarcastically rude and borderline disrespectful with everything he says. Calls on random people in class and makes you feel stupid if you dont know the answer. his grading criteria is all or nothing therefore you really dont get the grade you deserve. you will 100% regret taking him
I received and A in this course yet I have never hated taking a class more in my life. Ross is borderline disrespectful, arrogant, calls you out in class for not knowing an answer, provides little feedback on reports. Do it his way or drop out. Avoid at all costs. Being a tough Prof and rude Prof are totally different things and hes the latter
Stand clear of Mr. Ross. Reports are graded with no partial credit given and are his way or the highway. He wants the reports to follow the guides but doesnt grade them according to the guide causing you to fail the class.
Grading is tough and no partial credit is given
Awful Professor. Rude and ego trip, you are forced to buy his book which is not required in any other class. The reports have to be exactly the way he wants it, if anything if off or out of order on anything be prepared to fail. Would definitely recommend staying away from him and any of this classes.
This man is truly a dreadful shell of an old conservative and a DEPLORABLE professor . He hates women or minorities so if you fall into such category's as I myself do, get ready to be harassed and ignored. He is so rude! Also he talks nonsense for three hours with no notes and essentially speaks in tongues and NONE OF IT makes any sense!
So awful. This man is truly the worst professor and most miserable shell of a human Ive ever had the displeasure of meeting. And he smells like a gas station bathroom.
Hated this class. The lecture was so long and he has you buy his own books plus two other ones for the class which he doesn't even discuss much at all. The only assignments in class for your entire grade are reports for which he gives no guideline. Terrible and unclear feedback. His way or you get zero points (even if you follow the rubric)...
Avoid at all costs, guy is very rude. All you get graded on is 4 reports.
I've never met a professor less willing to help their student succeed. Not only does he give sassy email replies (for an asynchronous class...) but he does little to lead you in the right direction if you are struggling. Lacks any and all compassion and could not care less about you as a person or student. Assignments have little to no instruction
Not a very easy professor and doesnt really help you out when needed. Can be very rude sometimes. Hes a hard grader and even when you think you might have the answer, its not what hes specifically looking for. Its his way or the highway.
does not help you through anything. I took this class online and it was tough!! nothing is explained just posted all at once on the first day of classes and its up to you to keep on track and figure out what needs to be done.
The hardest grading professor I have this semester. You are only graded on 4 reports and report questions are too vague to understand. The class truly is a good example of his way or the highway. Grading is based off of his personal interpretations and not guidelines given. There is no partial credit, be prepared to receive a low grade.
I never dropped a class before. He is the worst teacher Ive ever encountered. He wants you to buy his books that he doesnt use because he wrote the book and get top dollar for it dont buy his book he doesnt use it. I honestly dont know how he is still able to teach, BSU needs to investigate him immediately. THE REVIEWS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES
He is a really nice and funny guy, but he grades so hard. He also only has 4 things that he grades you on the whole semester and he is a VERY hard grader. He doesn't really give partial credit, you only get it right or wrong. He mostly just rambles in class and you don't really have to listen but he will call you out if you are not paying attention
He grades papers on technicalities and does NOT give any partial credit. For example, he said the labels on my tables weren't given the correct title, so he gave me a 0/10. When I confronted him about it, he became combative and basically humiliated me in front of the class. He is rude and mean. Not to mention his lecturing is so vague it's useless
4 grades. 3 papers and one final. He is a very tough grader with very specific and useless rubrics. The final exam is essay based. There are no powerpoint or notes, he just emails you to read the chapter each week. Very pointless class and I gained no knowledge on small business management. Avoid if possible.
entire class failed his first assignment. He argued its "Very easy stuff". He then went on to have a class period for "Help" but when asked where we went wrong and what we could do to fix it, he stated, "I can't, then you're just going to copy what I say". So you cant teach us without telling us and you cant tell us... so how do we learn...
Write a book. Teach a college course with that book. Charge the students for the book. Don’t use book. Scam broke kids. Be a man.
This is the worst professor I have ever had a class with. Requires you to answer the extra credit question, even though they are optional. Gives ZERO feedback on assignments just tells you to look at the rubric, and when asked he is condescending in his response and still gives no feedback just to look at the rubric.
Horrible professor. Offers no help on papers. Extremely rude and condescending.
Do not take this professor. He will not help you learn or get a good grade. He will insult you on not getting a good grade. Then pretend as though it is not said or that he did no wrong.
hardest teacher I had. you have 4-5 reports to write the entire semester with him and he grades papers really rough. His questions are vague making it unclear on what he expects you to answer.
PLEASE READ! He has 3 papers that makeup 70% of your grade they can be very difficult to do but if you write your rough draft he will read it for you and tell you exactly what you need, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing this. Have him meet you in person and he will be able to help tremendously. He can seem like a rude teacher over email but he is just old.
Professor Stan Ross is a genuinely nice person. His reports are difficult but the outline and what is expected of each student are listed prior to submission. He grades mostly on content and organization, so just try to organize the reports nicely and you'll get by. I learned a lot about structuring reports as well as organizations in this course.
Worst professor I've ever taken at BSU. He said my final exam was "gone", and when I asked about my final grade being calculated incorrectly, he told me he changed the grading rubric. Genuinely evil. AVOID.
This professor wrote his own book on concepts he made up. He asks unclear questions and also doesn't even understand what he's saying half the time. He refuses to use blackboard and just sends out 10,000 emails a week instead.
Doesn't provide clear guidelines for his few assignments, and he provides awful feedback for your grades that's not even helpful. Doesn't use Blackboard or provide any presentations or notes, just be ready for 3 emails a day from him that barely cover the material in the chapters. The only plus is that he offers extra credit.
He will not help you if you ask for help. He does not teach you anything even though that is his job. He is rude and extremely disrespectful to his students. It's like he wants to watch his students fail instead of helping them succeed. He also makes you buy a book he wrote. It is the most confusing/awful textbook I ever had to purchase. DON'T TAKE
This is the worst professor I have ever had. His communication is terrible. He is so unprofessional and disrespectful to his students. He does not want to help his students but rather see them fail. The textbook he wrote and makes you purchase for the class is very confusing and not helpful whatsoever. Do not take any classes with this professor!
The projects and papers you are to do on this class are left very open and up to interpretation for the student. It's really hard to get any guidance at all from the professor. I was left confused for much of the class. You will have a lot of questions and he doesn't respond in a timely manner, nor did I find his responses very helpful.
Professor Ross can be tough, but if you utilize all the resources like the free textbook he wrote and engage with the material, you'll learn a lot. Tools like Unstuck study and office hours also help navigate the challenges.
Awful teacher
Professor Ross was great, he gets a bad rap but the class was actually really easy. Follow the instructions for each assignment and you'll be fine. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunity as well. MAKE SURE TO CHECK EMAIL.
