Talks a lot. Is a really smart guy so if you dont understand something, he gets frustrated. Looks like football coach from Waterboy. Gives 7-10 quizzes, then midterm where u can use book and notes, then 7-10 more quizzes. Very intimidating to go talk to.
Stanley is the Man! REally Funny in class and a pleasure to have. Tells great jokes and gives daily philosophies on life. I highly recommend taking his classes.

Great teacher..Explains everything, decent grader...very helpful
Very down to earth, easy to understand guy who cares a lot about teaching. Classes aren't what I would call challenging, but I learned some stuff.

I like him. Hes a nice guy and is a good teacher. Wants his students to learn but gets sidetracked on random topics. Funny sometimes but gets angry if people arent doing well. Allows you to use a book he made on all the quizzes and tests. Theres a lot of pop quizzes and a midterm, final and 2 projects.Fair grader but dont miss class or youl be lost

He really is the man! Intimidating and opinionated, but still the man... the Rothman!
not a hard subject but he makes it hard to get decent grades. quizzes once a week that are never on what he's gone over for the past two classes, so they're hard for study for. no office hours, he only stays after his classes for questions. only take if you've taken calc before
STAN THE MAN
Open book and note quiz every week. Only written test is a midterm. Final project is interesting. A lot of the work is repetitive and useless but you start to figure out what he'll ask for on quizzes.
The class is much more work than you think. He really doesn't teach...he'll just tell you to look in the book. Overall he's a pretty entertaining guy...and he doesn't take attendance so I just went on days we had quizzes and still got an A.
Entertaining guy but not a great teacher. This class has a lot of work and he doesn't really teach it. Your just supposed to read the book he made and figure it out to do the problems. Quizzes once a week with like 5-10 questions on it which are pretty easy. Classes were incredibly boring.
Not too difficult, but absolutely useless if you need help. He is all about using your "buddy" but doesn't bother to assist you even though he's the paid professor. Extremely scatterbrained. Can be very rude at times. I am personally not a fan at all.
repetitive but knows what he's talking about...everything is open note/open book! tells you the exact problems that will be on the quizzes and you can use your notes on the midterm and final!
My favorite class. He literally tells you what is on the tests and quizzes. I think he is a very fair prof. I really don't understand how people think he's hard. He likes to go off topic but he's funny. Just make sure to take very good notes and must do the homework because quiz problems are straight from homework everything is open book!
Such a nice professor! Teaches in such a clear way and lets you know exactly what will be on the quizzes and the midterm and final. All quizzes and midterm and final are open note and open book. He just wants you to understand the material and do well. Definitely take!
Prof Rothman is very dedicated to making sure his point gets across. The exams are open book so do the homework and you'll be fine. A strong supporter of the Manatee Extinction Movement, or MEM, Prof. Rothman trusts no one except his book and baseball. Don't cross this man or he will make you pay DEARLY with his voice akin to nails on a chalkboard.
Hard, unclear, makes you buy his book and it's really expensive, moneyball quizzes are easy, text quizzes are usually open notes/book + work with partner, but whole final project is long, dreadful and pointless. Very tough class if you were in low math beforehand. Must know Excel very well too. Makes you stay to last second of every class. Beware.
All quizes are based on hw that he lets you work with people. Do the hw, make sure you have the same answers as others, you'll get an easy A. Two major tests OPEN NOTES. Kinda confusing at times but textbook just solidifies what he says. The most adorable professor I know. He loves what he's doing, really cares and it shows.
Rothman isn't too bad. He's very old, and his lectures are pretty pointless. I don't learn much from the class itself, so you have to put in some work. All your tests and quizzes are open notes and come directly from the homework. As long as you do the homework, you'll get an easy A.
He's clearly passionate about the subject and he's an adorable old man. Homework quizzes are open notes including the homework which you've already done so if you work with someone else and check your answers, easy A. The two major tests are also open book, open notes and can be a little bit harder but Rothman grades fairly. Lec can be unclear.
Nice and funny old guy. Must do all homework but if you do the work you'll get an A. Quizzes every week on the homework problems. Good professor, always willing to help.
Funny guy, quizzes every class, one midterm, portfolio, and presentation
Professor Rothman really knows what he is talking about. His tests are open note (we only had one) and open note quizzes every week on the homework assigned. You don't have to go to class every day as long as you get the material and are there for the quizzes. Material is not hard and he thoroughly goes over everything and goes step by step. Easy.
Easy class, but you need to be willing to put in the work. You have classes every week on homework problems, so if you do your homework, you will pass the quizes, they are also open notes. Only 1 test and it was open notebook. His lectures can be somewhat boring, but not to bad. Hes very passionate about the subject, only take if interested in spor
Rothman is not what I expected. Yes, everyone loves the idea of open note quizzes. NOT GOOD. If you don't understand the homework you're screwed. He nor the peer tutor can help with the homework problems and me and my buddies always have different answers. He is not accessible outside of class. He is a good person, not a good teacher.
Boring teaching style, but the grades are based off of quizzes that are every class period. Also has the longest current teaching tenure at the school so he's very old fashioned, writes everything on a chalkboard. Most quizzes are pretty easy and everything is open note. One mid-term, one project, but no final.
Professor Rothman overall is a really nice guy who cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. Each week you will have an open notebook test based off the homework he assigned last class. Would definitely recommend if you are willing to do the homework each week, it is a lot but makes the class really easy.
Prof. Rothman is by far the easiest MA275 professor you could take. He's a cute, little old man who really cares about his students. He gives you problems from the book once a week and at the end of the week you have a quiz based on a couple of the homework questions. Everything is open note and open book. Best prof. for biostats, TAKE HIM!
He is very nice. Sometimes makes no sense. Use your peer fellow to your advantage. Hes funny too.
TAKE HIS CLASS! Easy A as long as you abuse peer fellows and do every homework assignment. Homework counts for quiz grades so do homework and you will pass. Very cute guy and very passionate! Definitely take his class!
If you took Statistics in high school, or have had any past experience with statistics, you will pass easily. You get homework every night and have quizzes very often, but he picks questions from the homework for the quizzes. Easy 100's. Only difference between regulars and honors is the end of the year project which everyone got a 100 on.
He's a nice guy, but lectures drag on and on! Lots of extra credit opportunities, and there's only one major test. All open book.
Quizzes every class but everything is open book. If you don't understand the homework you won't pass the quiz. Lectures make absolutely no sense and most people do other work in the class. Can't hear you well at all. Many people just either didn't show up or left right after the quiz bc there's literally no point in staying. Teach it to yourself.
Quizzes almost every class. Either reading or on material he did not teach in class. He wrote the text book so it is impossible to look at outside examples or double check your work. Really nice guy but does not teach. 2 friends of mine recommended I take this class and I am very disappointed. If you cannot do statistics well definitely avoid.
first off- if you aren't good at teaching yourself material DO NOT TAKE HIM. Rothman is a really genuine nice professor, but the way he teaches is by giving you handouts with notes and example problems. doesn't really show anything on the board. I must have had over 100 handouts by the end of the semester! no tests! & midterm & final are open note
Very nice man, but his lectures are all over the place and quizzes every class are based on HIS version of teaching so you cant even look to the book for help. Tutors didnt know how to help either. Wouldnt take again.
Rothman may not be the greatest lecturer (kinda boring), but everything (quizzes & exams) are open notes. He uses the book for the 1st half of the semester, but then uses photocopies of a book he co-wrote for the 2nd half. Form groups or use your 'buddy' to check your hw. He changes the weight of your exams (+) if you have shown improvement.
Honestly, one of the worst professors I've had at QU, he's all over the place I always left the class confused. If you can choose another prof.
If you have never taken statistics before, he is not the prof. for you. However, if you took stats in the pass he is easy. Everything is open note and open book. There are very frequent quizzes, but if you do the work you're fine. I would recommend ONLY if you're good at statistics. He does care about his students though and wants everyone to pass.
I have had some bad teacher in my life but nothing compares to Stanley Rothman. He does not care about his students and yells at you if you make a mistake in front of the class. He can't really teach at all and doesn't take attendance. Quizzes every class but they're open note. He wrote the textbook himself so there are no outside sources to help.
Dr. Rothman doesn't really do anything online. A great deal of paper handouts. A really nice guy who makes you work for your grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Rothman is a bitter old man who doesnt care. Probably the worst class I have ever taken at QU. He wrote the textbook himself so good luck finding outside sources to help you complete work. He gave probably over 100 handouts that meant nothing to me. There are quizzes every class based on the homework, so get ready to work.
Don't take him. He's really hard to talk to in class and makes bizarre policies that are really difficult to follow and he tends to not convey his rules well. He also teaches in a way that makes you feel stupid. Gives way too many handouts and they rarely help. Even worse online.
Professor Rothman was an okay professor. He is all over the place and the material can get confusing. Must have the textbook and lab manual in order to pass. There was a quiz every week based off the homework questions and the midterm was not too difficult. He says attendance isn't mandatory but gets bitter when you leave after the quiz.
Dr. Rothman seems like a nice guy, however, as a Professor he is kind of all over the place. I easily got close to 100 handouts in his class, nothing was electronic. Super nice but very scattered when it comes to classes.
Please don't bother to take him. His virtual teaching was horrid. No powerpoints, no practice activities, just reading the textbook aimlessly. Super confusing, all over the place, had about 100 handouts, and was super rude if there were computer issues. The only way I passed was from peer tutor. He made everything so much harder than it had to be.
Do not take this to fill your math requirement. Unless you are a COMPLETE math genius who never got anything below a 98 in high school. The class is based on the math/statistics behind baseball. If you come into this class loving baseball there is a good chance by the end of the semester you won't even be able to watch a baseball game.
Prof. Rothman is an okay guy, but he is just not accustomed to online classes. It is so hard to stay engaged and he just gives us tons of documents that he wants us to print out. He uses Word Document, no PowerPoints or drawing tools to do problems in front of you. Its up to you to learn the content. You have two exams and lots of group quizzes.
Awful. Trust me. BORING class-doesn't talk about anything and you won't understand his teaching. DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. CLASS.
Professor Rothman gives at least 1 quiz per week. All of the quizzes were exactly from the textbook that he assigned for homework so if you do the homework you'll be fine for the quizzes. You have to teach yourself most of the content for the class and some of the materials are confusing.
Dr. Rothman is a nice guy, but his style of teaching is not very stimulating and it's easy to drift off in this class. Everything is group work, not a hard class but a good amount of work is involved, especially the final portfolio which is 50 pages. Certainly old-fashioned, would not recommend taking this class unless you LOVE baseball.
Rothman is about 80 years old so he is a very old-fashioned style professor. He loves his lectures and hates students who do not try. So if you are planning to take one of his classes just for credit, I beg of you, DON'T.
He is the worst professor that I have ever had. His lectures are boring and they never taught me a single thing about biostatistics. You can't make up a quiz you miss because "in the real world you do not get to make up a day of work". He will teach you nothing, assign 10 hours worth of hw, and then give you quizzes for three classes in a row.
Do not take this professor unless you are very good at statistics. Professor honestly made the class unbearable. Lecture style put me to sleep and at any random moments he just starts yelling at us and then follows it by "I'm not yelling at you guys". Refuses to recognize when he makes a mistake so good luck trying to reason with him.
Sweetest man you'll ever meet, but his teaching style is not it. Quizzes every class based on the homework make up your entire grade besides the midterm and final. His lectures are confusing because he jumps all over the place. The only good thing is that if you manage to do well enough in the class, you can decide not to take the final.
At first I was dreading having him as a professor but he was in fact one of my favorites! He is quite the comedian at times! You need to do the homework to understand the material and used to copy answers from the homework into the quizzes. He has quizzes once or twice a week. Meeting with buddy groups to finish homework is essential!
Not a big fan of Professor Rothman, he would yell at us in class. He would also accuse us of not doing homework. His hand written sheets looked like a 5 year old wrote them. It was difficult to follow along in his class. He would stop the class and tell a story from many years of ago, almost like a flash back to a sad story.
Don't take him, he is 80 years old and forgets what he says. He uses a group buddy system which is so stupid. When your group doesn't do anything and your forced to work by yourself its extremely difficult. Do everything in your power to avoid this professor
This professor is incredibly disorganized, he will make you switch between multiple texts so staying organized becomes a major chore.
Avoid taking this professor! Lectures are very confusing and not good if you are a visual learner. He gives multiple papers every class and just reads through them, doesn't do any problems out. He constantly yells at the class and slams his desk when people don't understand by saying things like "it's really not that hard", "you should know this".
His teaching style is very disorganized and he just reads and gives out many handouts that he wrote himself so they are confusing to read and understand. Utilized a buddy system to complete problems prior to the quiz. A lot of homework and quizzes occurred 1-2 times a week, but if you do well all year you dont have to take the final.
I did not learn a single thing with this man. his lectures make no sense and you have to completely teach yourself everything. he also goes off on random tangents that have nothing to do with math. save yourself the aggravation and pick a different prof.
WHATEVER U DO, DON'T TAKE BASEBALL STATS WITH THIS MAN! He is very disorganized, gives out endless handouts, and expects you to work with his "buddy groups" he puts together which is so outdated. He gets angry about the smallest mistakes ever too. (For example, mistaking a player's name for another on a quiz). Good luck reasoning with him as well.
Uses soooo many papers, very confusing. Open note everything which is great but is not helpful when the questions don't make sense. He's a super nice guy but has a super old-school style of teaching. ****controversial king****
he sucks avoid him at all costs
His quizzes, midterm, and final are all open note and open book. He gives you the questions ahead of time and you have a buddy group that you can exchange and check answers with. He averages your grades at the end of the semester and allows you to be exempt from the final if you are happy with your grade. Not bad at all and could be so much worse.
If you dont know anyone who's taken the course before you have fun looking through all his messy unorganized lecture notes. Hes very disorganized and overall just not an enjoyable class.
Take anyone else
A super sweet 80-year-old man. Quizzes are very easy, he gives all the possible questions before the quiz. However, there is a quiz every week in this class. He also does not teach my style, he just talks at the class and does not do any example problems. I taught myself through this course.
Professor Rothman is a nice guy but do not take him if you want to have a solid understanding of the course. My friends and I taught ourselves EVERYTHING past the midterm. The only helpful resource was his peer fellow who hosted meetings the night before the quizzes. Quizzes are open note but only helpful if u understand/did the homework.
Rothman is a kind older gentleman, however his lectures are challenging to follow, you will need to spend a lot of time outside of class teaching yourself. Open-note quizzes are nice. Quizzes and exams are not hard, however they are frequent. He also will not put any grades in blackboard, so you never really know your grade, until the final days.
Prof. Rothman is sweet. However, lectures are very challenging to follow. He gives stacks of papers every class that are hand written & difficult to read. You have to teach yourself. He gives you potential quiz problems ahead of time but does not teach the subjects well. Our only grades are quizzes (at least one a week) and the midterm and final.
Professor Rothman is senile and jaded, frequently going on strange tangents about his personal life. He struggles with technology and gives open-note quizzes almost every class, but grades weren't published until the class before the midterm. He unfairly claims students don't work hard when grades proved otherwise. Overall an unpleasant experience.
His lectures are him reading every word of a packet and he gives a million different papers. Open note assessments but no partial credit for math work. Spends time complaining about those absent and that nobody tries to do well. If you want to do well you will have to teach yourself everything. Overall, don't take his class if you can avoid it.
Good person, Talks the entire class either reading off his syllabus or complaining that his students dont read his 400 page book, quizzes every other class or every class that are not hard as long as you work together with everyone around you.
This professor really does not care if you know the material and the math he just reads lectures from his book while complaining that none of his students read anything or do anything even though they are working tirelessly to solve his problems and do his graphs, there is a quiz every day which can be easy if you work with others, if not good luck
This professor had so many handouts they were kind of all over the place but I did like that it had examples on how to do problems. Quiz every week but open note. Good guy, but for this course I mostly relied on teaching myself and going to the peer catalyst. Make sure you take as much notes as you can.
Whatever you do try to avoid this professor at all costs! This professor handed out so many packets for each class which made it really confusing to find what we were learning. He did not teach at all. You are basically teaching yourself. All he did was read from the packets and rarely drew on the board. He also ranted about off topic things.
He has quizzes very often and if you do not show up on the quiz day, its a 0. No matter if you have a doctor's note or not. Other than that, attendance is not mandatory. His quizzes are open notes, but he changes the instructions that the textbook will give you when you do the quiz problems for homework before. Do not recommend at all.
Rothman is a passionate man but he needs to retire. If I hadn't taken statistics in high school I would have been lost. His methods are confusing and disorganized, and the buddy system does not work. I was essentially on my own - Google couldn't help me and my professor couldn't answer my questions. Overall a very stressful experience.
he really cares about the material but does not teach it well. your grades are based on your quizzes which are based on your homework, so if your homework is wrong your gonna do bad on the quizzes. he genuinely just speaks at you during class and you can't follow his packets. because of this you don't really learn anything.
