AVOID! He's easy, but you won't know what's going on in class and he doesn't prepare you well for exams. It's a reads-from-the-book teacher.
Avoid at all costs: drop the class, take a night class, etc!!! He's easy, BUT he doesn't teach anything, you'll have to learn it all on your own. His classes consist only of reading handwritten transparencies that are copied the book!
Good man...Tries to give a practical approach to auditing. Hard class to have in a six week summer semester. But he grades fairly...
Expects students to know the CICA handbook by heart. When you ask why, he says that it's because the handbook says so. He's terrible at explaining and his notes are copied word for word from the book. Pointless to attend class with him, you might as well teach yourself.
His class is not very organized. And his handwritten notes are just horrible. However, he is a nice guy and he marks ok. Overall I won't recommend him but it is not like he is a disaster.
Amazing. Makes students participate in class and reviews problems prior to exam that he expects to be similar to those in the exams. Students can get a copy of his class notes so that while in class you can actually listen and follow what he is doing. Excellent COMM 305 teacher!
He is one of the best markers I saw in the accounting department, he teaches good but you have to do the extra work yourself to get good grade, but he is fair teacher. He makes it easy to get good grade.
Good teacher in general, goes over good review problems & real life examples in class. At least one or two of his examples will show up in an exam. The Handbooks are an integral part of accounting. If you haven't figured that out yet and the reasons why teachers go over them by now, maybe you should get out of the program.
He knows Auditing, and he clearly explains materials. His exams are fair, but not easy. There are no multiple questions and 6-8 essay-style questions. You'll need to attend this class and understand materials very well.
He knows auditing, and I enjoyed his class. His exams includes cases. To do well in his exam, it is important to get the concepts well. I found his exam challenging but fair. If you study hard, you'll have your B- for sure.
horrible teacher, but easiest of them all, highest class average, take if you are good at learning by yourself
Very passionate about auditing. Uses his personal notes in class that are available at copy center. Notes are very useful as book is boring. Gives real life examples, summer class exam questions are all cases. Assign. is guaranteed 8/10 and frequently asks for class participation to liven things up (but not part of grade). Would take him again!
Horrible teacher. Use his notes, which are not clear at all. Have to buy his handwritten notes in copy center, seems for me he does not know how to use computer or he is very lazy. No explanation in class, just read from his notes. Audit is not easy topic, he makes it even harder. Avoid.
Very lenient teacher when it comes to grading. He will focus a lot of time on what the book says and provides his own notes that are same as the book.
Great teacher that uses real life examples and would rather use cases in the midterm and final instead of multiple choice. Auditing is clearly his profession and he shows a great understanding of the material and is able to teach it.
Among the few CU teachers who actually CARE about students' success.Lots of real life examples which help u grasp theoretical concepts.if u WANT to learn he's the most willing to help u succeed u just have to ask!Listen in class, what he says is key &will most likely be on exam. The more u participate the better u'll do.VERY FAIR grader!
Great lecturer. The textbook seemed like jibberish until he explained each chapter in class. If you pay attention, he gives clear hints on what will be on the exams. He does weigh down your grade by grading very harshly on the assignments (worth 20%) but if you put in the effort, you can easily get your B- or higher.
One of the worst professors EVER. He is very very useless in teaching. He made a relatively easy class extremely hard and very harsh grader. AVOID at all cost. I work extremely hard for A's in all my acco courses but with this guy it is impossible to get a decent grade!!
Very harsh grader!! He does not explain at all. The only thing he does in class is to read from his book which is practically a copy paste of the textbook ($28)that we have to by in addition to the textbook. He adds extra 15 questions per chapter in addition to whts on outline...That's fine but it was terrible in 6 week summer. Avoid HIM AT ALL COST
Good teacher, makes jokes and tries to engage interaction in the class. Uses his own notes which are copy paste of the textbook. He gives clear hint on whats going to be on the exam, which are fairly graded. Would recommend.
his notes are so messy, i wish he would give out typed notes. this course is lots of theory but so much energy is wasted just to figure out the notes. it shouldn't be that hard of a class but really..he makes it so complicated. It's sad that teachers are supposed to help us learn but they just make it more difficult instead
I used to get to class just listen to him and read the book one day prior to the midterm and the final and got a C+ how about if more effort was done
One of the worst profs in accounting. You are forced to buy his notes for $20 which are a mess and incomprehensible. His lectures are extremely boring as well. Avoid!
Couldn't ask for a better teacher for audit. Amazing teacher in all means but his only problem is he doesn't replay to emails
He is a very nice professor, and he explains things clearly. However, do not expect a free ride in his class. He is a tough marker, and while everyone usually passes, a good number get below B-. A lot of effort is required in this class.
good teacher. must do work and readings to achieve b-.Attendance almost compulsory
GOOD TEACHER. NOTES OUTDO TEXTBOOK/ LETS YOU DO YOUR OWN GROUP PROJECT. LEARNT ALOT WITH HIM. FOR THIS COURSE HE HELPS YOU ALOT
You often do not get an instructor who teaches what he does for a living. This is one. Brings in real situations into the class. Be careful he has made exam questions from them.Reading text not good enough with him. Must attend class
Had this instructor in Acco 320. Very good. I took him again in Acco 330. Glad I did.Even helped in in exam writing techniques.
Boring subject, but instructor makes it inreresting. uses real cases
having worked in industry helps you in the course. Textbook not good at all. Teacher livens up the subject.
I really enjoyed his classes. He took a boring subject and enlighted it. Highly recommend him. Not an easy grader, but very fair
textbook horrible. coursepack worst. Teacher easy going. makes class interesting. However classroom setting not good
took it last summer. Very well presented.
perfect auditing course. learnt alot
Interesting course. A lot of real life cases. Exam consists of cases from this instructor. Worth taking him if you want to make a career in auditing
Good course. Must participate to do well
Well organized class. Must work hard for B-. Fair marker.Marks his own classes.
horrible book. good instructor. Excellant group project. Easy marker
Good course. Sets you up nicely for acco 465. Take this instructor. Can help your studying
Instructors notes maybe somewhat messy but good study tool and better than text

GOOD BOOK. GOOD INSTRUCTOR
Hard course. Instructor helps a lot to make it easier
students must participate to do well
DIFFICULT COURSE.I HAD TO WORK HARD ASSIGNMENTS CHALLENGING. INSTRUCTOR NOT BAD. RECOMMEND HIM
instructor brings the real world to the classroom.
HARD EXAMS. KEY IS TO DO PROBLEMS
Good course, but hard to take in summer
VERY GOOD INSTRUCTOR. CARES FOR STUDENTS
very knowledgeable about the subject. terrible as a teacher.
hard summer course, exams long
good instructor, long but fair exam
Professor Schulman is just awesome at what he does. He have alot of real life experience and he blends that with the course perfectly. I recommend you take him if you want to learn as oppose to "memory dumping" in exams. You have 3 assignments (10%) that takes apprx. 2-3 hours each, midterm 30% and final 60%. You will never see MCQ in his exams!
THIS PROF IS VERY GOOD IN COMMUNICATING THE REAL WORLD
The professor is very knowledgable. His exams though are long. You have to work to get a good mark
you learn alot in his class. Muast attend
good summer class to take
Somewhat helpful in exam preparatin. Very clear on how the real world works
lot of material for summer course
Hard marker though fair exams. Assignments challenging
must work hard to achieve B-
good overall
good all levels
hard course in summer. Instructor makes dull course interesting
textbook not good. must work practical experience an asset
difficult course, but very well presented
real life experiences. teacher at times exciting. you must work
case oriented . He forces you to do work. Will help you if you take new 450 course.
He is a very easy grader and explains everything you need to get good grades. All you need to do is pay attention to in class problems!
PROFESSOR SCHULMAN IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHER!
PROF SCHULMAN VERY KNOWLEDGABLE IN THIS FIELD. USES REAL CASES.
He's an easy marker, but don't ask him to explain how he marked it. Makes no sense. He doesn't write the exams,so be careful. There was material on the midterm that he never taught and wasn't in the book. Doesn't use a computer so forget about ppts. He's a nice guy, but not the best teacher. Just reads his notes in class.
Professor Schulman cares about his students and wants them to do well. Makes himself available
Prof Schulman teaches a very intense and very good course. He is helpful in helping you understand the course.
The teacher is very detailed and easy to understand. His notes are somewhat messy but better than book. You learn and a B- is achievable
Amazing teacher, uses great examples to make you understand. Fair marker and really good teacher.
Notes are a bit messy, but its better than reading the book, he does lots of examples in class, which is very helpful. Always answers any questions you have. He just wants to make sure you understand the material, not there to trick you. Would recommend prof Schulman. Also he makes jokes that are pretty funny but no one seems to laugh!
Overall nice person but not great at teaching the material.
amazing teacher one of the best in JMSB.
Absolutely unclear about what he wants in assignments and projects, making it hard to get good grades. He also has a tendency to answer with 2-word messages if you ask a question by email. Not too bad, mostly easy grader (depending on how he feels).
During the class you will question his methods, but by the end of the semester you will have learned a great deal of real live experiences in the real world. Listen in class and you will do great, likes students who participates, and will give you B- if you worked for it and deserved it! Prepares you for the business world! great teacher !
It would be nice if he didn't just read his notes and the solutions to the problems but rather do one with us on the board instead of demonstrating with answers already given to us.. I need to be shown to not read to.
Great teacher. Definitely would take again.
Good teacher. He is very nice and grades fairly. I would definitely take him again. He has a good sense of humour. Knows his stuff.
worst acco teacher he only reads his notes and solution to the problems instead of doing them. he is very unclear as well . AVOID
best teacher ever
good prof
He's one of the best accounting professors at Concordia. He's a bit of a tough grader for the midterm, but he makes you work for your grade. Put in the effort and you'll do great. The examples and assignments he gives are very helpful for the final. One question he did in class was exactly the same in the final.
He's an okay teacher. He gives good examples as well. Took this class in summer 1 and he's a tough grader. I've heard people say he's an easy grader but 17 people out of 60 didn't get their b- in this class with him. So beware, stay on his good side, do well on the group projects. Midterm was alright, final was more challenging. Study well!
Good teacher
Prof Schulman teaches you through cases how to be a CPA in real life situations. To get a good mark you must work hard. A fair but hard grader
This instructor gets us ready for the real world. Attendance in class is not mandatory but if you want a good mark go to class listen and take good notes. His practice cases should be done as he gives good feedback what to expect on the final.
I took Prof Schulman in Acco 360 and I had to have him in Acco 465. He is amazing and has great knowledge of the subject. His lectures and experience in the subject is immense. Relatively easy going.
You will Definately learn how to be a CPA with him provided you are prepared to work
one of the best accounting prof in JMSB. Knows his work
Excellent knowledge of the subject. Helps if u want to go to cpa school. Definately take him
Unbelievable classes right now. A must to take. He get great class participation. Learning A lot. A must teacher to have
Good instruction and very good communicator. Gives good instruction. Participation encouraged
I had him for Summer One. Tough grader. You learn a lot. He wants all his students to do well. Gave us practice cases to help us get better. U must attend classes to do well. He gives more notes than on power points. Do the work and you will do great.
Has good grasp of internal auditing. Understands and explains well the COSO concepts. Gives you more course material than needed
Great communicator. He is very knowledgable and tells us life as an external auditor. Analyzes cases in depth. You must read care a before class
Very good auditing teacher. You lealearn a lot. You have to participate to do well
Does not write exams but prepares u well for them. Class attendance a must
Teaches you the basics of auditing. Taking him again in 465. A good teacher. One of the better ones
Best professor ever had at JMSB.
Professor Schulman has unusual methods of teaching the subject but at the end of the course you will learn a lot about auditing. Yes it is a difficult course and he makes you work. If you work to well on the quizzes, which are not difficult but tricky you should do well the course
You should never take this prof, avoid at all cost
Good teacher though tough. There is lots of read and writing cases. Exams are not easy but he tells us to know past accounting and auditing courses. One of the better profs. Take him
You van learn a lot if you participate. Exams are hard but fair. One had to do critical thinking and you will not do wellif you memorize
Makes auditing easy to understand provided that you do the assigned work before his lecture. He provides you with the theory that you need to pass the course
Case oriented course. This course teaches you to become a professional accountant. Instructor has working and teaching experience to communicate this factor
When I read the rating before this it had to get me to write one. Point blank this is one of the best instructors in the JMBS program. Those who have had him have asked him for referrals to the CPA program. He his respected and very knowlegable. Those that call him awful certainly one has to wonder about it.
Great teacher. Knows how to teach. Take him. You won't regret it
Great teacher. Case analysis he gets you to do critical thinking
Really excellent teacher who cares how his students are doing. Tries to teach students how to be professional accountants.
Best teacher ever had. He gave me an enormous insight into profession
To get a good grade you must work hard. Participation will help increase your grade
He is an excellent master of the subject. He has vast knowledge and shares it with class. He goes beyond the text book and touches reality. You will understand auditing with him. Must participate and work hard
Teacher approaches the subject of auditing from a real life situation. You must work hard to get a good mark. Fair marker. You will Definately learn
All around interesting course. Better than what I expected
Knows his stuff. You must be prepared for class.
Hard class. Good instructor. Lots of work. Likes student participation. Fair in marking assignments and exams.
Teaches concepts very well. Brings in some of his own material. Approachable
I did not know what to expect from him. Teaching style all over the place
Great course
Passionate and caring instructor. Take him
Great teacher. Want him again for Acco 465
Goes out way to show how book material and real life events interrelated
Best teacher I had at JMSB. Made me interested in auditing
He is very good in how he communicates auditing to the students. He even gives you an idea how to prepare for final. Class assignments and quizzes good way to get high class marks. Textbook easy to understand. His slides excellant
One of best teachers teaching auditing. Gives real world situations. Teaches concepts very well. Tough grader but he makes you earn your mark
I learnt alot from this class about bring a professional auditor. Good simulated cases
Very organized class. Helps in giving you a good feedback to the real world. Interesting course
I am surprised by the reviews so far. He may be a good professor, but he is a very tough grader and very condescending toward the student's assignments/ tests/ finals. It is my second time taking him and I highly recommend that you DO NOT TAKE HIM, please look for any other professor as an alternative.
Hard marker and very good. Take him you will learn how to become a good auditor
Work load heavy go a summer on line course. Fair marker. You can learn alot of you make an effort. B or higher is attainable
One word describes him. WOW. For a non accounting person this was quite an experience. When covid hit I was always looking forward to coming to course. Too bad it ended
Great course. Everything fantastic. Recommend this instructor
Great course Learnt alot
For online course this was excellent. Prof was great. Multiple choice quizzes difficult. Good experience
Everything good. Recommend course and instructor
Great instructor. Lectures from his own notes. He gives alot of real life experiences. Does not write exams but you can learn alot from him
He is a very knowledgable. He values participation in his classes so this can help you stand out. Good practice in this course would be to send him cases not included in the outline that you have tried to solve for his feedback. This will help you for the midterm and final.
You must work hard. If you do more cases it will help you. The more cases you do you will understand the course better. The secret keep up with the required work.
Gives good feedback on how to write professional reports. Expects alot out of his students
I am not one to complain about teachers easily, but this professor was something else. The entire semester he taught class to black screens and had no visual support whatsoever. He spoke so quickly its impossible to note anything down, and has no clear grading criteria. You can get 100% on 1 question and 40% on the next without any logical reason.
Must follow text. Good instruction
One learns alot about the real world. He teaches about current auditing laws. To do exams properly you must keep up to date
Up to date on material. Prepares you well for future courses. If you are not up to date this is a difficult class. Exams were fair
Very knowledgable Must do your assigned work and must participate. Quizzes keep you up to date
Excellent professor. Would take again in a heartbeat. Stanley not only lectures about theory, but does an excellent job of bringing real world examples to tie in the whole lesson. If you participate, you will do great in his course. His tests are fair (make sure you pay attention when he's lecturing, take notes; his tests are based on the lectures.
Easy going. Student opinion important to teacher. Tough grader. Assignment challenging
Professor Schulman is an amazing, considerate and caring professor. I would undoubtedly retake his course again!
Refreshing lectures. Makes subject easier. Approachable.
Very good teacher. Hard marker. At time not approachable with marks. He does not realize every half mark counts
Writes his note. I am taking course in Summer 1. Alot of material in a short period of time. Three quizzes in four weeks. Alot. 30 per cent of mark. Does not writ exam but prepares you well. Very knowledgeable in personal tax. Definately take
This professor is simply incredible. Must take him. Makes auditing fun and knowledgeable
The course and teacher, probably the best teacher i have had at JMSB, has increased my interest in auditing immensely. His classes are fun and you learn alot. He cares about his students
Inspirational teacher. He teaches with passion and really cares about his students. He wants to see them succeed and do well. Definately take him
He is simply amazing. Makes auditing a career you want to do. He is a great teacher and THE BEST I have had at JMSB
He likes to tell real life stories from the real world to explain his point. Gets his point across. Excellent teacher. Must take him. JMSB lucky to have him
Gets students involved in the classes. He wants us to do well and learn from each other
i really enjoyed his teaching style. He made the classes very interactive and fun. He rly encourages participation and wants everyone to understand the material. He is funny (but cold), but if you ask him questions he will answer and try to help. He made the classes interesting and used real life experiences with his job. Very good teacher
Top notch professor. You learn alot especially by getting involved
The instructor makes course interesting. Looked forward to coming to the lectures. To do well you have to keep up with the material. Your opinion counts in class.
As objective completed he does problems to show the theory. This is a difficult course. You have to keep up with the readings and the problems to understand the material and go to class
He prepared us well for difficult midterm
305 is a bad class and it's not Stanley's fault. He's a good prof and he cares about his students but he's not the greatest lecturer. He prints the slides out and shows them on a projects which isn't the best. I wish he'd go over the answers and thought process more and teach us about that rather than just showing the answer.
Definitely one of the most entertaining profs I've had in accounting! He gives solid slides, though it's helpful to add tables from the online textbook to the slides since they're pretty bare. Not much guidance for the group project, but the feedback from that will help a lot for the midterm exam. He's not an easy grader, but he's pretty fair.
Excellant teacher. Prepares you well for final. Be prepared to work
One of the best com 305 profs at JMSB. Refreshing, interesting and very very good in teaching this very difficult course,
i liked him and will give pass you if you see you are trying hard in this class for example he curved my 40 something on the final to a 50 and i managed to pass so he has mercy unlike other profs
Actually a great teacher. And knows how to teach the subject at hand. I found it hard sometimes to follow him at times in class as he uses printouts of a PowerPoint and projects it rather than using the PowerPoint itself, but other than that I found he gave relevant problems to do in class and tough the material well.
His classes were amazing. One of the best if not the best to teach the subject. Learnt alot about management accounting. Tutorials are also outstanding. The tutorial and the lectures made getting my mark easier. Definately take him if you have a chance
I like Stanley, he's very nice but I didn't like his teaching style, he hasn't really adapted his teaching methods consistent with other professors. He also is a bit unclear at times. Props to Stan the MAN for a 5 star overall, but he is not 5/5 worthy.
AMAZING PROF - doesnt like it when u use ur phone but when its a 3 hour class ABOUT ACCOUNTING you just cant help but use ur phone after 1.5 hours have passed so sorry stanley i still love u
Makes personal taxes easy to understand. Exercises are very valuable to understand the material
Sat down with me to explain where I went wrong on the final. He worked with me on a one on one to help improve my exam writing techniques. It made sense. One word caring
Goes through tax concepts in depth. Stresses what could be tested. Knows the Act
Did not like his teaching style, he goes quick and assumes everyone knows the course already. Also he should stop using the projectors from 1950
Grading sometimes not clear. Excellant examples. Gives good real world cases. Class participation will help you in course. In fact he likes it. Gets discouraged if there is no participation. Good cases
Explains theory with simulated situation and real world examples
One of few teachers who can bring the outside world into the class room and tie it into the course material. Amazing is an understatement.
Professor's knowledge of personal tax immense. Gave many real life situations and problems in class. Gave problems in class to discuss and solve. Learnt alot. He increased my interest in tax.
This teacher is far from a 5-star from my experience. I feel lied and duped by these reviews as he does not explain the material clearly and acts like he did us a favor for being "lenient" on correcting the exams which is a total joke. The worst part is that he brushes you off when you ask a question as if it was a blasphemy. Choose another teacher
Prof. is good but his teachings are a bit old style and confusing in terms of instructions. You'll have to read a lot if you want to understand what he's teaching or you will get lost along the way even if you are there since the start. Slides on moodle are not posted for some reason.
This instructor took over 2 sections cold. Little time to prepare. He presents his own examples, goes over problems and explains the theory. Good subject knowledge. He though is old fashioned but excellant He tries to help students as much as possible during class. Regarding the moodle notes it is out of his control so he can do much about it.
Professor Schulman has a specific teaching style, but it works well if you engage with it. The lectures are worth attending, and using resources like unstuck AI along with the free textbook can really help prepare for this class.
Accounting is not my major or minor. He makes this elective easy to understand. He keeps his lectures very simple and understandable. He does problems in class and if one has problems with them tries to go over them on a 1 on 1. Not to many teachers care like this, especially to non accounting students. He wants you to understand
Amazing lectures
Just beware that he will be a bit tough on grading assignments, otherwise he's fine. He will give some tips for final and on career path.
Unfortunately, this professor's teaching style wasn't effective. The material wasn't explained well, and when students asked questions for clarification, he responded in a dismissive manner. It made the learning environment uncomfortable and unproductive.
Answers all questions and very easy going although a tough grader. Do your work and you will do fine. Overall his classes quite well organized
please do yourself a favour and DONT take this prof! his TA's don't know how to grade a midterm and we get yelled at to speak up lol. nearly 5-10 people dropped his class post-midterm results. his 4.4 grading does not justify his disrespectful demeanour.
Avoid, very strict teacher
People might say he's really harsh but I think his teaching style really pushed me to do better. If you attend class you'll actually leave understanding the material (especially if you participate). His goal was for us to actually understand the concepts not just memorize them. I will be taking another class with him if I get the opportunity.
If you are only interested in marks do not take him. If you want to learn and understand auditing he is the one to take
He is really bad at using any electronic device. Lectures are almost just reading his PPT in paper. He gives random grades for midterms and refuses to communicate. It's really scary.
Tough grader yes but he teaches one alot about the current tax system which is difficult. Uses real situations including current matters to explain tax rules
Horrible course. Class marks on midterm about 70 percent. Prof Schulman gave us great and I mean great guidance to achieve great marks
Once you meet with prof Shulman u get to see why he graded exam the way he did. He is a hard grader but he demands that his students work hard to achieve the maximum levels. He is a pretty good communicator but incorrectly assumes students know the subject before class
Great prof. Made course easy to understand
I don't understand why JMSB still hires the professor like Stanley Schulman. He just read slides using half classtime and then class is over. He's not patient to answer questions. Even you sit in 1st row of the class, he cannot hear your questions. Learn nothing through his class(showed twice), but learned all from Tutor Michael and seft study.
The entire lecture was him reading printed slides (that were made by the textbook publisher) on a projector. Made the lectures incredibly useless to attend. He was also quite rude when students wanted to see their grades and learn from their mistakes. Do not recommend taking unless he is the only option left. Get a tutor instead.
Good instructor Easy going Come to class prepared to learn
This teacher gives real life simulations of the audit world in the class. Better than any textbook. One sees auditing completely different. Somewhat easy to understand.
After each section taught he goes through one or two illustrations to explain the previously discussed slides. These illustrations easier to understand than the textbook problems. Going to class and doing assigned problems a must
