Very Skilled, Attentive Teacher.
One Horrible "teacher" he expects hsi students to knoe C++ before the class starts, he doesn't realize that its 101, or maybe its just the course.
he know what hes talking abot but expects too much out of college students
Cannot teach for his life...learned everything from the lab TA
No Comments
He is knowledgeable. Never taught 101 before, expects too much. Does not understand that it is the only CIS class most engineers take. Oblivious, but nice enough guy.
Doesn't kno how to teach..u dont even need to go to class..cuz all he does is read off of the slides..the lab TA is even worse..the professor thois a very nice guy, understanding, and gives credit for late hw if u have a valid reason for it.
dosnt realize that not everybody taking it intro class is going into a CS major or even will touch a comuter again
He sucks. He is one of the WORST teachers here at NJIT. If you have a chance to take his Class, DON'T!!! He writes cryptic code that is way harder than it should be. just plain bad.
cis 114 is a fast moving class that assumes you completely understand all matierial in cis 113. If you are not prepared you will drown. Senesy is one of the better progamming professors I've had. Negatives: He does rely too much on slides, and has few
I find Senesy to be a great teacher. Yes he uses PPT, but he explains evrythng. He knows a lot of about computers, and he clearly explains the material. Not to mention that he goes over key concepts several times, and answers all Qs asked.
hes alright, uses PPT, knows his stuff VERY well. lectures are alright
Knows the material very well. Good teacher.
As professors go this one is tops, extremely knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. Sometimes he goes on tangents in class, but every single tangent is worth going into because it always leads to interesting questions and discussion.
Very knowledgeable and helpful
Very good teacher. Explains things clearly. Often relates class material to real life. Always ready to listen if you need help with something. Overall excellent teacher.
senesy is a great prof. always looking to help, and get the mind thinking. loves slashdot and ppt. anyone who says he isnt good isnt cut for computer science, or doesnt have it as a major and are a bunch of noobs. he really is one of the best out there.
by far one of the best professors at njit. he's very understanding, helpful, and smart.
good at explaining things, tests arent a bit tough, but overall worth taking his course over anyone else since he can teach material best.
Seems like an okay dude...but it's very, very hard to pass this class...CANNOT explain things well...he pretty much sucks
Great lecturer. explains everything well, always available outside classes if you need help with anything. do the homework and the midterm and final will be a breeze.
One of the best teachers at NJIT (if not the best) You will learn a lot and have fun in his class. Take him.
Good Guy. Passed with an A. Class would have been better if the text book didnt suck.
He seemed ok but not too flexible with assignments and his projects and assignments are really hard, if you can, take statica instead of this guy.
This guy really loves his job, and loves helping students who want to learn. Show interest, and he will help you with whatever he can. You really should come to class, though he stops taking roll after a few weeks. You'll learn a lot from his class, and he listens to feedback -- rare at NJIT!
He knows his stuff. Actually likes helping out his students and always seeks ways to improve his classes. Great professor. Exams are straight forward, from HW and class quizes. Put some effort and get an easy B.
He is very knowledgable in what he does. He ALWAYS has an answer for you, and if he doesnt he will go find out for you. If you want to slack off in his class and not show, you can. But he will grade as you do your work. If you do the simple work he gives, and take the tests, you will do more than fine.
Another good professor. Knows how to teach, willing to listen to suggestions. Exams seem tough but if you go over what he gave you, then you will be fine. I didn't even buy the book.

Senesy is the man. He is a huge geek and obviously loves what he does. His class is awesome and he teaches you by talking about his own experiences in the U.S. army as an IT guy. He also loves video games and new electrnic things. (I had the same cell phone as him so we were tight)
Great professor, we need more like him. Loves what he does and loves talking about it and anyhting else technology related. Really does a good job of staying in touch with the students and making sure everything is clear. Loves to relate class material to his time in the Navy which is often more interesting than not.
Very friendly and knowledgeable professor. Explains the concepts clearly in English with real-world examples a young person can relate to.
Geeky in a good way. Very passionate about technology.
Great teacher. Very Helpful. Easy Grader. YOu will learn a lot in his class.
Great professor, definitely take him for this class, will learn a great deal. Really good at actually 'teaching' rather than just presenting book material or lecturing.
Very well may be the best professor at NJIT. Ensures that students understand the material, very knowledgable of the material, and knows how to present it. Exams are exactly what you would expect from homework assignments.
One of the most knowledgeable, if not the best professor in the IT program. His passion for technology is inspirational.
He's a pretty cool guy, total nerd who will talk about Everquest a lot, ex-military so he has a lot of experience. Do the main project for the class, try to go to class as much as possible and you could get a C+ without much effort.
Nice professor, very clear and helpful. Problem is he is overwhelming with the course load. He'll make you read the entire textbook cover to cover and you better be ready to spit out any minor detail anywhere in the textbook on his ridiculously difficult exams. Still, he constantly offers to help and is a genuinely nice person. Be prepared to work.
Shell Scripting for Administrators. As long as you do the work, correctly, for the class, there should be no reason you get a bad grade. He knows the material cold and he can teach it easily. Undoubtedly one of the best professors in the IT department at NJIT. He is also as Sensei Wiggins says, "an authentic human being".
HARD..REALLY HARD..If you put in a lot of time, you'll do fine..but you have to put in a lot of time.
He teaches the material very well, possibly the best IT professor at NJIT hands down. There is a group project, just make sure you have dependable people in your group when your group is formed. If you go to class and study hard there should be no reason you do not get an "A" in this class.
Good Professor. Gives review guide before every exam.
Professor Senesy is one of the best professors at the NJIT campus. I had him twice and his teaching methods are great. He likes the hands on approach when it comes to learning combined with an online component for discussion etc. He knows his stuff which makes it even better and the guy is just an overall great guy to have class with.
Very Helpful and gives review guide before midterm and final term.
Indeed one of the best professors in NJIT. He provides midterm and final reviews. Always available to assist student.
Great professor! Very clear and concise. Powerpoints are very helpful and tests are based on powerpoints. One of the best classes at NJIT with one of the best professors. Take it!
Course materials weren't that easy but this guy is really helpful when you seek for help. You get a grade for exactly what you put in. Exams were somewhere between 'easy' and 'okay'.
He is very helpful and always looking for class participation. If you review his slides & do the assignments, you'll do fine. He likes multiple choice exams & quizzes (online) with 1-3 short answer questions. Note: He has geeky humor which I related to, loves flying rockets, & he was in the Air Force (not the other branches mentioned by others)
Professor Senesy was a fair grader. His exams weren't tricky, you just have to review the presentations and the labs completed. There's a project that you can work on alone or in a group. I chose to work alone because he's a tougher grader if you're in a group. He also prefers Linux so do a Linux-based project if you want brownie points.
Senesy is Senesy, man. Theres nothing more to say. If you've had him before you're probably not here looking for reviews. If you haven't then get out of here and register for his class! Knows what he's talking about, enthusiastic about the information, useful HW, fun lessons, and corny jokes. I've had him for IT430, and IT340 as well.
Great teacher and is very fair
One of the best professor's I've taken at NJIT and is a very fair grader.
Professor is great, with his experience in the workforce and his stories to give an example of the lecture really makes it easy to understand. He is very helpful with homework and also make sure to study for the exams!!!! The slides and chapters are the key and answer all questions! do not leave anything blank.
Took online class with him. Never really met him but he has a cool voice. Took class as a technical elective and came to the conclusion that IT majors may be on the slower side!
Has great knowledge. Book needed for labs. HW, 2 quizzes, midterm, final, group paper+ presentation. Questions come from his slides so read them and you should pass. He doesn't babysit so be ready to figure things out on your own & read twice before you ask questions. Lectures are good and you learn a lot. Definitely recommend him!
One of the best professors at NJIT ! Do you want to learn? Take him! His online class is fun! His videos aren't boring though you are staring at a PP. He knows his stuff, very experienced professor. Labs are straight forward, no surprises for mid or final. A lot of hands on. Easy to reach out he cares!
Amazing class. if you know nothing of Linux you will have a hard time. The quizzes are hard but you can find the answers in the book. The online lectures are great, short, and to the point.
Took 340 online which is easy and teaches the basics of using linux in regards to system administration. Didnt really learn more than I already know but good class. 430 is a great class and Senesy is very knowledgeable on the topic of ethical hacking. Quizzes and exams are not hard but you have to remember a lot. Great class
you dont have to know linux to pass this class, senesy does a really good job of breaking it all down. pay attention in lab - understand the commands and the methodology and you'll pass. make sure you attend each lab, each lab builds upon the understanding of the previous, and it shows up on the midterm/final exam.
Easy labs and homework since the book outlines what to do. Interesting to listen to his personal anecdotes that he adds in to the lectures. Exams/quizzes require studying the PowerPoints, and a question or two on the exams might come from the labs. Overall, easy A and fun class.
Great Professor. It was an online class so I never met him in person but his video lectures were great, and the exams were easy if you kept up with the labs and homework. All of the assignments and exams for IT 340 involved performing tasks on a Linux VM and uploading screenshots as proof.
Do not take him, doesn't understand students are in a pandemic and keeps giving loads of work along with no help from him. The exams are super tough and he doesn't provide help even to the students who ask him separately. Especially if you ask him what to study for the exam he says study everything and is very vague in his answers. He is very tough
Class consisted of one day watching pre-recorded podcasts and the other a lab day. Prepare to read the book and don't rely on the powerpoints and podcasts only for the Midterm, can't wait to find out how the final is going to be. To put into perspective, without the curve he gave for the midterm, the avg grade on it was a 40. Gotta love Covid!
In the online setting he is more of a babysitter during class sessions. Got no help and was put down when I asked questions. He says you wont pass without the book, thats not true as long as you go over the learning objectives and PowerPoints. Be prepared to teach yourself most of if not all of the material. All in all just cram for exams
i had him for it340, it610, and it640. in the graduate-level classes, it is imperative that you read the textbook, at the bare min. go through the slides. i credit my sysadmin skills from being educated by him. the man is stern but also understanding, if you have any issues, let him know in advance and he will help. senesy is the best IT prof.
Straight forward class + professor. The class covered two textbooks and the final was cumulative which meant you had to go through two books of material to study. It was too much material to cover which resulted in cramming and hoping it was on the exam. Lectures were also pre-recorded and some recordings were of low quality/hard to understand.
Senesy is the man. The class consists of learning Perl and Bash. He grades fairly and he knows his stuff. The only problem I have with the class is H.W consists of textbook problems. I wish the problems were custom problems. Other than that, the course was great.
Professor Senesy is the best, had him for the online section of IT 240. Learned Perl + Bash throughout the course. He is a very fair grader and if you put in the effort you will definitely do well in the class. Most of the skills you learn in this class are very useful in real-world scenarios. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fun elective!
This is my second time taking Senesy. He is a great professor. I enjoyed taking this class and learned a lot and am definitely glad I took it.
For this class we one lecture, one lab-ish class, and a homework assignment every week. He basically did the homework for you in his lab classes. This class was super chill. If you're a cs major and need an IT 200 lvl elective, I highly recommend this one. It'll be helpful for when you take CS350/288 and if you've taken those, this class isn't bad.
Really solid professor. He helps out with homework problems during lab and lectures are pretty light. 240 deals with Perl and Bash, but the he gives a good introduction to both. Stay on top of homework assignments and study a bit for the midterm and final and you'll be good to go for this class.
Both IT 340 & 430 are not easy courses, but they are indeed fun classes. If you pay attention & you do all the work w/ max effort, you'll definitely pass the class. He is neither a hard grader nor an easy grader. He grades everything decently. Professor Senesy is also a fan of astronomy and so am I, so here and there, he'd talk about it sometimes.
I highly recommend Senesy! He is one of the best professors in the IT department. I really enjoyed the semester-long project involving configuring virtualized networks and deploying a firewall. Lecture heavy but includes valuable stories from his time in the military. You need to study to do well but an A is within reach with proper effort.
Content covered (especially from the textbook) and interactive labs are interesting and enjoyable to learn. Lectures are a bit dry but pay attention because the quizzes are based directly off them. The only downside to IT430 with senesy is that the midterm and final don't feel like an accurate testing of what you learned. Overall an enjoyable class
Prof. Senesy rocks. They're clearly knowledgeable and passionate about Linux and systems administration. My only gripe are the exams... In the real world I'm not going to memorize options for every command. To be fair, I didn't study enough so that's on me. I'm still expecting to pass with an A but the Midterm had me struggling!
The class was very content-heavy and covered two textbooks worth of information. Lectures are dense with highly technical concepts. Come to class, take notes, and study hard; you will need to work for the A. The project was not bad: creating a firewall between VMs. The exams were fair overall but make sure you study hard and well in advance.
IT340 with Senesy was great, however, the exams he gives are difficult. He makes the quizzes, midterm, and final difficult by not allowing you to go back to questions you already answered, you have one chance to be sure of your answer before moving on to the next question because there is no way to go back to a question you already answered.
Third semester I have taken Senesy. You will learn a lot but make sure you study for those exams, they can be difficult depending on your preparation level. He is a chill guy though!
This review is late - I took him a semester ago for Sys. Admins. This man is a legend and while his tests were hard, he will make you actually learn and like the material. At least, that was my case. It's hard to do that with something like Systems Administration, but he did it. I'm going to take him again next semester.
The homeworks were fun and the tests were challenging in a great way. The labs were also very fun and he goes the extra mile to help you out with his lab videos.
He knows about sys admin well. Very good at teaching. Assignments for the most part arent so bad. Hes always down to answer questions and help if needed. Not an easy A as you'll have to READ to pass. Keeps the class engaged and is a fair grader. Would recommend him over any other professor.
Prof Senesy is fantastic. He is incredibly knowledgeable and his lectures do a great job at teaching the material while mixing in anecdotes from his own experiences.
Good material and he goes over most of it during the recording plus he added more subjects which are also useful, I learned new skills from him also troubleshooting is key for him to be able to navigate to your project freely
He's just a terribly nasty professor. He has no issue barking at students who ask for clarification and his lectures don't help with the homework or the exams. You're better off taking the class online somehow and reading the textbook rather than trying to placate his ego. If you can avoid him, do so at all costs.
This professor disrespects students, refuses to take accountability for his mistakes, and does not know how to plug in an hdmi cable.
The class was online, and I expected it to have a heavy workload, but it was manageable. We did labs, and the midterm and final weren't far from the material provided. Since it was online, it was much easier to keep up with everything.
took him 3 times, somehow each semester he makes me wonder why i came to njit. its professors like him that show they dont care about students. He gets mad about something and loses patience instantly when a student asks something. Get ur shh together, ur teaching future talent, and if u dont want to, step down. does not reply to emails. terrible!!
I have just learned of Stanley Senesy's passing. Professor Senesy was a great guy. I had him a few years back, and it breaks my heart to hear the terrible news. My thoughts and prayers out to his family and loved ones. You'll be remembered as an awesome teacher who pushed my limits and got me into Linux as a hobby. Rest in Peace 🙏
