Excellent, business minded professor. Better than schwartz for business minded students. Easy A if you participate and study (DUH!)
He's a very pleasant person who will fill your knowledge with lots of interesting facts from the telecom/netwrk world. If u r interested in the subj u'll definetely like him.He shares a rich knowledge and has a talent in making it interesting.lots of stuff to read though. His classes - fun to be in!!
very smart guy!! you will learn !!test are all types of questions
horrible, extremely boring, tests are really hard and you learn useless info, and its an elective so dont take it...
For this class the professor was horrible. I understood that it involved a lot of theory about the computer information systems field but he knew very little about anything and always got lost. Couldn't teach excel, barely understands access and lost too many student's assignments.
Nice guy but extremely boring. Class is NOT fun AT ALL. Very dry and at any given point there's at least 3-4 people. Tests are ok. Bombards you with emails and articles to read and gives lots of homework and case study assignments. Take him if you can't find anyone better.
really didn't make the material interesting.
Take him if you want to get your brain stuffed with outdated technologies. The exams are crazy hard. Short essay questns. Lots of technical themes. He will pick on every word. AVOID!!!
His biggest concern is to be better than his colleagues. His last concern is what his students get from his class. Small person huge ego. Total disaster!
Screw-up-your-grade type of pleasant person...
If you put real interest and effort, you will learn a lot. Students who expect to learn about technology today WITHOUT a clue of where that technology comes from or how it works will not do well. In many ways, it's a history course, but one you need to understand today's tech. It's alot, but he knows his stuff and will teach, if YOU want to learn!
Completely agree 100% with the comment below! STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS..HE WILL RUIN YOUR GPA and get pleasure out of doing so. Final is ridiculously hard (unbelievable amt. of material) attendance is mandatory (plus he takes is at exactly the milasecond that class is supposed to start, everyone else is marked late)...JUST EVIL, HORRIBLE, and CRAZY..
Super nice professor but you do need to put effort into the class. He cracks jokes and tries to involve the students.
He always sends lots of email to bother you, and gives you lots of homework. Individually, I don't think he helped me to learn this course, but he gave me huge pressure.
If you work and go to class at the same time, then don't bother to take him. Too much work, very stressful, and very boring. The exams are really HARD.
Take his class if you enjoy having quizzes and exams with 6 diff sections and over 100 questions total. He emails a million times a day and gives big projects with little review. Avoid him if you can.
I feel like this guy gets a bad rep. I am not going to say he is easy by any means, but he is very helpful, understanding, and funny at times. He expects what every professor expects; their students to do the work. Wow, that's crazy. Tests are extremely detailed (hard). If looking for an easy A? Keep searching. But worth taking if its your major
Worse prof. ever! Terrible! Not fair grader. You must participate in class or suffer reduced grade. Must know entire CIS book for exams! very boring! Bad person. Please do not take him for anything.
How this kind of professor would teach business course in Baruch? This is the second time I took him, I have his class is not my wish, I didn't know when the professor was changed to him and nobody told me. Baruch never send an email to tell u anything changes about the course of professors or rooms. So terrible!!! He grades not fair at all, and he
Awful class, unfortunately no one else teaches OS here at Baruch so you're stuck! Makes you memorize diagrams in the book. Each chapter theres over 100 slides, and you fly through all these chapters. Worst part is, the slides aren't even his; its directly from the book publishing company.
Requires a lot of work, but it's worth it. By far the best course I took in college! This is a hard subject but prof Wine makes it easy as long as you follow him and do your work. Lets you choose questions (6 out of 20!) in exams to make sure you answer about what you know best. No memorization required if you understand the logic.
I took his class last semester, and it was ok at first then gradually becomes terrible and uncomfortable. I got 90s in the first two exams with too much hardwork, a lot of stress and headaches. And comes Finals, the most difficult exam we ever took. Got 60s and others got 50s and 70s. Very unfair and very unappealing as well. Avoid at all cost!!!
He isn't as bad as some are making him out to be. If you're interested in the subject, which I was, you will learn in his class. The biggest problem I have with him is that he isn't that smart a guy. Now I know that sounds offensive, but the truth isn't concerned with feelings. I despise "learning" from people who are mediocre in a subject area.
If you are not interested in the material, or not willing to study hard, he's not for you. People are into the topic(nerds) will love him.
I am not gifted when it comes to technology; using it or understanding it. This subject would have been difficult for me whether the professor was horrible or amazing. Unfortunately I did not receive the latter. The professor reads the slides and often says " oh but you probably already know this" Doesn't explain material and tests are difficult!
Some people here are whiners. You should realize you're not in high school anymore, and that you need to study and work to learn anything in college. This is one of the only professors in my entire undergrad and MS degrees that is actually very good and knows both the material and how to teach. He's not easy at all, but he's simply the best.
Had him for Networks&Telecom. He is a great teacher, actually helps you learn the material instead of memorizing the book. This is a difficult class so that's a plus; you really have to work. Tests were fair and he curves. Very knowledgeable of the subject and open to questions.
He is very knowledgeable and great at teaching the subject. This class is difficult, but you will come out learning a lot; he helps you understand the material instead of memorizing it. Tests are fair and he curves.
The class disorganized coz he was using a new textbook, & assignments weren't ready on time. He corrected 3 times the assigments + 1 was corrected a night before he posted the grades and he expected the students to do it by 6pm the same day which is terrible because I work weekend. The material is good, but be prepared to learn every word meaning.
Fascinating class. Learned a lot and the class really opened my horizons. There's a take-home midterm and final, a group project and presentation, and a case study. My only gripe is that he takes a while to return exams. Other than that, could not make the class any better.
Exams were not bad, but workload was very heavy. He was very strict on presentation guidelines.
Wine is a knowledgable prof who loves what he teaches. He's a fair grader who curves and gives fair exams questions. CONS: He overwhelms you with hundreds of slides to study, loves essays, takes FOREVER to grade, and crams too much material in his lectures. You don't need the textbook just use slides. He isn't difficult, just overwhelming.
The prof is a nice guy but this whole class was basically from the book. I feel like this class should have been online because I did everything at home and got 90s in exams. All we did in class is follow the books instructions. The book is great, btw, to learn excel. In all, learned a lot from the book.
You might as well pick up the book and never attend class because he knows Excel only because of the book. He Speaks on behalf of his own interest often, speaking about financial CUNY issues but naively from a professors prospective, ignoring that we are students.
Very by-the-textbook professor. Assignments from the book each week with 2 hands-on midterms and 1 final. Always is a stickler for "soliciting volunteers" to demonstrate in class by redoing parts of an assignment, so be prepared and do the assignments right.
Professor Wine is a good man. Seemed he is a strict person, maybe on some points of view. But I think he just wants his students to learn more. He gave us a lot of homework(3 to 4 question in every chapter) , but I really learned a lot of excel functions by doing the homework. His exams are directly from the text case. If you want to learn, take him.
Other comments are quite accurate. Very by-the-book, lectures directly from the instructor slides for the text, but knows the material well and answers questions well too. Lots and lots of homework, but all questions from the book. Tests are not too bad, pretty straightforward. Not a particularly fair grader, but not terrible either.
He knows the material, However he chooses to teach you things you will never use or need, loosing most of the class in the process. Very hard to pay attention to boring useless stuff. He is a tough grader and tests are challenging. I don't recommend him as you will find yourself falling asleep.
Warning Do Not Take!! Very strict and harsh grader. Assigns a lot of work, reading and papers. He is very unorganized, one time the entire class read the wrong Blackboard reading, because he posts in such an unorganized manner. There must be 1,000 articles posted on Blackboard, Takes him a month to return an assignments...
I’m not a huge fan of Prof Wine. He’s a low grader and gives a lot of work: two 10 page papers, two 4 page papers, group paper, case analysis, group presentation. I don’t think he gets the fact that 90% of the students are part timers and work full time during the day. He’s very opinionated and inflexible, class Ave was 85 for our first 2 papers
Exams are challenging but not overwhelmingly difficult. Knows the material really well. 2 midterms + 1 final + 4 short lab assignments. Learned a lot.
I took Wine a few years ago for CIS 3500. I now work as a network engineer and cant help but to wonder why a prof at Baruch would teach such an interesting, exciting, and USEFUL topic in such a POOR manner. Wine no disrespect but if your still teaching retire or go back to school. He isn't hard, but its painful learning useless things.
Dense, lengthy and frequent assignments, most content is 2+ yrs outdated. On avg 400 pgs to readwk, assigned via hyper unorganized folders on blackboard. 4 papers, 2 group projects, 2 presentations and pop quiz. The semester is over and he has yet to return a single grade -- pretty sure thats against policy. Frustrating experience all around.
Don't. Other, "better" and easier professors out there. Gives such lengthy homeworks that after a while it just drives you crazy. won't learn anything inclass, just show up for attendance. tests are like hw. Crazy hard grader as well. Didn't underline something? -5 wrong font? -5 this wrong? -20 that wrong -30. Avoid him.
This is a computer class. Don't expect a lecture. He just goes over tutorials for the whole class period. Homework is long, expect to spend 4 hours per homework. However, now that the course is over I feel really comfortable with Excel. Be prepared for tests because you have to get the spreadsheets done in time.
This professor makes the subject extremely boring during lectures. Gives a slight curve if most of the class does bad on the exams. No extra credit even on hw assignments. If you do good on the exams and fail to get a good grade on the hw, you're overall grade will be greatly reduced (up to 25%). He is a really tough grader. Do not recommend!
It was the toughest class I've ever taken. Lab assignments were extremely lengthy without good instructions. It took him forever to grade. Prof. Wine undoubtedly has years of IT experience but his lectures were boring and hard to comprehend. The world of Cyber Security is really exciting and engaging and it could be taught better. Not recommended
Classes are basically him going through countless slides. Takes points off for the smallest of things in an exam and the exams are filled with gotcha questions. Try taking someone else for this class.
No homework. Helpful feedback. Actual links to news. Generous curve up to 17 points. Lectures are boring. Long chapters in the book. Hard labs without explaining what this was about. You won't learn anything to implement at your job. There are viruses, hackers and vulnerabilities, you have to fight them, that was it. Very tough final. Think twice.
Very boring lectures - you are going to fall asleep within first 20 minutes... guaranteed! His tests seem to be easy but only at first glance - he uses a lot of trick words to confuse you. The textbook is useless. All he does is scrolling down the slides with tiny letters all lecture long.
If you are not able to memorize the textbook, don't bother taking the class. His tests are very detailed but he also curved generously. He is smart and knows his stuff inside and out, but class is very boring. He's a very nice guy underneath that blank exterior. His tests are not tricky, they are detailed, that's all. You HAVE to study to pass.
This is by far the most boring and useless Professor at Baruch. He focuses on such outdated information and has no impact when he teachers. Lectures are extremely dull and long. You will guaranteed fall asleep in this class out of sheer boredom and disappointment as to not learning anything from him. AVOID HIM, DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS WHATSOEVER.
Avoid this class 100%
Professor is the worst CIS professor. Old guy should retire already hes doing part time work getting low pay and still teaches like his class is the most important. He takes attendance before class even starts. His tests are crazy difficult. He is not lenient.
One of the most underrated professor, Wine is knowledgeable and experienced. Folks rate him low because you actually have to work for your grade. If you show up, pay attention, learn the stuff, you'll do just fine. His test seems intimidating but is actually very fair. No group project is a super relief for a graduate course.
This is a hard class. However, if you really want to understand networks from a computer science perspective you should definitely take him. Be prepare for very detailed tricky exams. I am happy I took him because you can't find such a strong CS professor in a business school.
He is a bit boring, but a good professor overall. Exams are tough, you have to know the material and work for your grade. He curves and is always available for questions. I preferred his online classes to the in-person classes because he recorded the sessions and I could reference the recordings when studying.
This guy is the worst. I am the type to actually go to class and learn. But he made the information so boring and dull that it wasnt enjoyable to learn at all. He started class exactly on time which isnt even fair due to the construction going on around campus. Dropped his course with ease. Dont stress yourself with him and take another teacher.
AVOID. I don't know if he was better in-person, but he's not meant to be an online teacher. He is extremely unorganized. His grading criteria is not clear at all, yet has the audacity to deduct you 50 points for something you missed. His tests are extremely hard. He is not empathetic at all, and I would say the WORST professor I have EVER had.
Stanley knows his stuff, I took him for network and telecommunications and i learned a bunch in his class. Yes he could be a bit dry but he is also passionate about what he teaches. I still actively remember a lot of the key concepts i learned in his class and it has been instrumental in my IT career
His first time teaching CIS2300. The class started with 43 students. Only 10 people left in class. The man is vague in his instructions for homework. Designed a mid-term that could not be completed and had to curve the entire class to not have a D average. Grades harshly and this is an introduction class to Python. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
The worst!!! Hates students, hates teaching, hates college. No respect to paying students. Doesn't teach much, I learned everything on testout myself. Midterm was horrible, he phrased everything himself and we had to read his mind to guess what he's actually asking. Gave us 1 week for a huge project at the end of semester, very nice. AVOID!!!
Prof. Wine is the worst professor I have ever had. Not clear about expectations for homework so lots of points are lost for minute mistakes. His midterm was extremely hard and so was his final. His questions didn't make sense grammatically and he had to email us during the final to correct them. Completely unorganized. Take someone else.
I wanted to focus on Networking, but since this horrible, evil Professor Stanley Wine is currently the only professor teaching this particular required class I will forget about Networking. I've actually changed the direction of my career in order to never have to take a class with this professor again. If you care about your GPA do NOT take Wine!
This professor absolutely horrible, the worst of the worst. His tests are pure BS cuz nobody can understand it. He cares nothing about students and Baruch need to hire real professors who actually care about students. He's the type of garbage that gives other adjuncts a bad name. I've never encounter such horrible teaching. Please stay away.
This is the worst professor you can possibly find Baruch College and hes the most professor that teaches CIS 3500 this semester. The exam was so ridiculous, he had to curve 30+ points on one point. The InfoSec lab is not worth doing, and the "wired shark" lab is a total mess. The Submission to Wired Shark Lab in located on BB(exam format). Avoid!!!
This was a tough course with a ton of material. Professor Wine made the material interesting and his lectures were engaging. Exam scores were heavily curved.
If you want to take exams that dont match the material youre covering this is your guy. Wine is easily the worst professor at Baruch, and I advise to skip this class if you can. Unfortunately he is the only professor that teaches 3500, and youll have to take a class with him. He hates teaching so much. Seems annoyed when people asks questions
I thought Prof Wine taught the material very well. Lectures must be attended/watched in order to understand. The man breaks down heavy material into more digestible info. I do admit his delivery is dry but if you listen carefully, the content is solid. I learned a lot in this course. He doesn't like questions until he finishes talking. Big curves.
Worst Professor at Baruch! Don't take him.
This guy is an old hemorrhoid that Baruch needs to cut from the school. nothing positive to say about him.
Honestly one of the worst professors I've taken in my academic career. It's almost as if he lectures for himself and enjoys hearing himself talk. One of the most merciless professor I've ever dealt with. Does not bend his own syllabus for any unique situation. His grading criteria is unclear and takes off lots of points on homeworks and exams.
If you want to take 2300, avoid Wine like the plague. His syllabus is unclear and his tests barely matches anything in the textbook, much less his lectures. Wine is also very merciless and will not curve your grade.
This professor is a harsh grader and does not teach you anything. His teaching style is so bad. One of the worst professors at Baruch College.
Uses txbk, sparse notes, and ppts when studying for tests. On the tests, he just gives away points - "choose 10 of the 15ques listed to answer for Section 1, 20 of the 30ques for Section 2,"etc. In class, often mentions what topics will be tested. Studyguide given.Hws and lab dont take long - even if they do, they are EASY. Excellent prof!
If you are taking or planning on taking CIS 2300, do not take this professor. Professor Stanley J Wine is terrible; his syllabus is so obscure. His tests do not resemble anything from the textbook! His teaching style is not that great and it is terrible. He is one of the worst professors in this institution of Baruch College.
Knowledgable prof, arguably bad teaching. There is a lot of raw material to memorize and he explains concepts and terms as if you are already knowledgable on the topic. He speaks softly and somewhat monotone so expect to feel sleepy/bored.
This class involves a lot of studying and reading. You cannot put the blame on the professor if you aren't putting effort yourself. Overall, the class is hard but if you are willing to study (not cram) for exams, you will do fine. The professor was on top of his stuff but he isn't the best lecturer.
Do not take this professor! He gives too much work and you won't understand anything he is teaching, basically a self-taught class. Lots of assignments, and quizzes, and he is stubborn. His instructions for lecture, quiz, and assignment were very unclear. He doesn't give you any chance to make up the work or give any extra credit.
Amongst one of the worst professors, I've dealt with in my 4 years at Baruch. Very negative individual.
The professor knows what he is talking about and his lectures reflect that, however. For one, he will pile on assignments before teaching the material fully, the assignment instructions are unclear, will grade mark off a significant amount of points for changing or simplifying code, and he will assign an assignment a couple of days before its due.
Run, Forest, Run!!!!!
This is my first review here and needless to say, please avoid him at all cost. I kid you not, he is the worst professor in Baruch. An extremely hard grader. His quizzes are 10% of your grade while your assignments are worth 25%.If you have a slight error on your code, YOU WILL GET A 0. Please avoid him. Very rude and unprofessional.
Does not respond to my email about homework questions. Tough grader, if you make the tiniest mistake in an ASSIGNMENT, he will give 0. No partial credit. It is 26% of your grade. As we all know, programming is all about self-learning. Professor Wine only lets you use "his" way of solving a problem. He will grade you wrong otherwise.
His grading system makes no sense, I was well on my way to earning an A, but then he started taking off points of my quizzes and assignment for ridiculous reasons. I had to drop the class to save my 4.0 GPA, because I've taken classes with much harder material than python and gotten A's but his grading system makes that virtually impossible.
All other posts about him being horrible are true. Do not take him! Whether or not he is online and even if he isn't online for you, DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is not a fair teacher nor a fair grader because his class is considered to be a "real world" class. He will give you 26 questions for a quiz and give you 15 mins with both coding and MC questions.
This professor is bad in every way possible. Do yourself a favor, if you see the name, just run 100 miles away.
I'm currently taking this course at the moment and I just got to say he is one of the worst professors I had so far. The guy gives a lot of homework that is beyond the textbook and the quizzes have a lot of questions with limited time. The midterm he gave out was difficult because the programs he gave out couldn't be done in an hour. Don't take him
What you put into this course is what you get out. Make sure to read the textbook before lecture. Grades are based on InfoSec+exam1/Midterm/final(curved)+ 2 group projects. Show up to class, will make this course easier. Connects course work to real-life examples. He's funny and actually cares. Dont listen to the bad reviews. Just be ready to learn
Our final average after curve was around 50. Think about it. I might be one of the few to get an A (Thanks to curve) but I would still say that his teaching and grading are awful. Avoid him if possible. You can challenge yourself like me by taking this course as an experienced python programmer. For beginner coders, avoid if possible.
I withdrew from the class and I just got to say he's terrible. A lot of us were struggling on the final day and the only thing he was doing to help was to give us attitude and a quiz that wasn't going to be on the final. This is supposed to be an introduction course too and he treated us like expert programmers that worked for Google.
This professor is just heartless. He does not care how much effort you put in but if you get things wrong in the HW Assignments he will take points off. He expects us to master the chapter material very well for quizzes and AFTER the quiz he will explain concepts you should have known for the quiz. No matter your situation he has no mercy at all.
Worst professor ever! DON'T TAKE HIM! Online class is bad. Tons of hw and takes points off if you don't do it his way. Doesn't explain stuff and expects you to already know coding. If someone in your family dies, he says he is sorry but won't give you extra time to complete the assignments claiming that they will be shown in class. Don't take him!
He has a lot of industry knowledge and technical knowledge but he has a tendency to explain this in a manner that is hard for most students to follow at first. His exams can be extremely tricky as he uses wording that requires you to have near perfect understanding of the concept. He is difficult, but it's not too bad if you have prior experience.
I regret taking class with him, he would take so many points off for minor mistakes, with no mercy at all. OH and he only gives 15 mins for quizzes that tend to be longer than 15 questions,it was a mix of MC and coding questions, a minute a question is absurd. Sometimes he posts assignments late and then gives no extra time to do them.
The overall class average was 59. Most of us were able to pass only because he gave a huge curve. His homeworks, quizzes, and exams are way above our skill level. Even if you're a Python expert, he'll still take off MAJOR points if your program isn't written 100% exactly the way he wants. Won't let you make up work, even if you have a valid excuse.
doesn't give clear instruction, pace goes too fast, he grades as if his life depends on it, what is a curve?
Bruh, I signed up just to write this rating. I took this class for credits, but I have heavy experience in coding and Python. This guy writes assessments looking for answers exactly the way he wants it, and tries to trick you. This is the worst way to run a coding 101 class. If I didn't have prior knowledge, I would have gotten a much worse grade.
Get ready to study. This guy doesn't let anything slide. Quizzes almost every class and multiple homeworks due every class. Very particular about how the code should be, even if the output is correct. careless towards students' issues and outside problems. Very difficult to prepare for exams.
Please whatever you do, do not take this course at any cost. Please I really beg, don't take his class. His test are meant to TRICK you rather than actually test you on the material. Stressful semester due to him. Tread lightly. I am genuine disbelief someone like him can be a professor. He knows his stuff, just not the best at teaching it.
The rating speaks for itself. He barely teaches and just makes us read a textbook. Its highly recommended to do Harvard's Cs50p if you don't know coding before taking the class. you don't have to finish it but at least get to loops. This is to not get lost. Horrible introduction to python (code labs and assignments pretty good tho)
best teacher ever
Totally cutthroat grader for an intro course - if your code isn't written exactly how he likes it, he will not hesitate to give 0 points. Covers course material AFTER giving a quiz on it. Lectures are tedious and not very useful, so you'll rely on your textbook. If there's other professors available, they're probably a better bet than Wine.
- teaching style is not friendly for beginners at all, do not recommend if you have no experience - tests are extremely long for the time given - class can be hard to follow at times - you are limited to what you learn in class, you cannot do self learning
For the final exam he uploaded all the grades at 12 am and flagged a bunch of students for AI use with no warning, but since majority of the class did terrible he dropped the exam grade for that part of the class. Tests doesn't matter if you do terrible but if you do well he's gonna report you to the dean? Take literally any other Professor!!!
Worst professor I have taken does not know how to teach at all. DO NOT TAKE HIMMM
Bring a pillow and catch up on sleep.
Professor Wine is one of the best professors I have taken. He takes the time to make sure people learn and not just memorize the material. If you can't handle the workload then I don't know what to tell you. You should definitely take him if you are serious about CIS.
Professor Stanley Wine's CIS class was an easy A. All the quizzes, midterms, and homework were online, so you know what that means... *wink*. Definitely recommend taking him if you want a stress free class
Easy class, no homeworks but there is quizzes. 3 exams total. just a lot of note taking, and he writes small so if u have a poor eyesight, make sure to sit in the front tbh.
I do not recommend gave us 20 minutes for 50 question in exam, Horrible…
This dude gave us 30 minutes for a 30-question quiz. then he gave us 60 questions with 40 minutes, online though with a lockdown browser! This dude is the worst though, all he does is read off the slides and makes you buy a 37 dollar textbook that he tells you to study from. NO STUDY GUIDE unlike the other teachers. then made final and midterm pape
Nothing correlated clearly from lecture to the exam. This was the worst class I've taken so far purely due to the professor. I secured the A but I highly suggest you choose someone else or else you are going to stress yourself out for no reason (the other cis classes/ prof are easier).
