Very patient, great personality. Obviously enjoys teaching and interacting with students. Will go out of his way to help you and keeps good office hours. Straight forward, uses class time wisely.

Stephan is always willing to help students. He is available when he says he will be. I think he could manage his time more so that his lectures don't feel rushed. I also think if he spent more time showing the mathematical processes it would be easier to learn the material. Over all he is a good teacher and really enjoys what he does.

Stefan was a great teacher. He has a wonderful ethic and integrity. He is capable and willing to promote the best interest of individual students through one-on-one contact outside the class. Even if math is difficult or dreaded, Stefan makes learning and passing the course a very real option based on the effort you put into it. I'd take him again!

Great teacher. Always had practice work and walked around. made himself available all the time.

Some times he spent to much time working on the warm up that we didnt learn everything we needed to for the next homework, other than that he is a good teacher very helpful and supportive!!

I cant say too much more on top of these articulate critiques. New curriculum is thoroughly discussed, and the classes were only rushed because he tackled all questions. I feel spoiled to have been in Houff?s class and I am sorry that I will not be able to take summer 65 from him. Work hard play hard, take your work seriously but not your self.

Dude was great. I'm pissed he isn't teaching 65 this term. Hopefully I'll catch him again in Summer term for 95. He's smart and helpful and above all he's a genuine person. You'd be lucky to have him as your professor.

This guy is one of the best teachers overall. Very clear, fair, wants everyone to succeed. He's funny patient and does his job well. What more can I say? Do your homework don't miss a class and listen to what he emphasizes and you will do fine.

Extremely good and patient teacher.

Mr. Houff is a great teacher. He grades very fair and spend extra time making sure everyone understands the concepts. There is not any extra credit, but no extra project either. He is very understanding about attentance and will let you make up quizes or exams if need be, but not homework. I would recommend him to anyone.

Absolutely the best instructor I have ever had. Houff takes time with individuals as needed and gives alternative methods to solve a problem, not just the book method. He is always available to anyone who asks for extra help. He made the class FUN to be in and you actually Want to be there. Houff: 2 thumbs up,I will look for you for future classes.

Best math teacher I have ever had. I did not get math until I took his class. He knows how to make math fun and is extremely helpful to everyone because he wants everyone to pass. I highly recommend him as a teacher if you get the chance.

Great teacher, even though I'm probably going to get a C, Always up for helping his students. Hes smart, funny and very approachable..and cute to boot. Recomend his class, but I think I should have spent more time in the tutoring center. Math ain't my thing

Stefan is very passionate about math, and is able to covey that to his students through his lectures, emails and willingness to be available for help not only in class, but after hours as well. He is vested in helping you understand at minimum enough to be proficient in the skills and concepts taught in this course. He is definitely a math Jedi!

He's a good teacher. knows what he's doing. Negatives: 'Watching you squirm' with worksheets that he hasn't fully taught the material for. He says that attendance is your choice, but he had to have a meeting to disapprove of people leaving early. I'm getting an A in your class. LET ME MANAGE MY TIME. You get paid. So teach. We all win.

For those of you struggling with math, take Stephan Houff. i really believe that math is this guys world, and he knows what is going on and how to explain it best. even if your question is hard to understand, he gets it and helps you with your problem. best math teacher I've ever had.

Good teacher, totally looks like Luke Skywalker! Stefan does a good job of preparing students for 111 B or C. He always makes himself available for questions and help and is genuinely interested in helping students succeed. Kind of witty and works well under pressure.

I hated math before I took this class. He changed my entire view on the subject. If you can take him for any class please do!! Amazing teacher!!!! A+++++

I have always hated math because I never understood it, this Luke Skywalker look-alike makes math interesting and understandable.

I would recommend this teacher to anyone. He makes math easy enough to understand and doesn't mind cracking a joke once in a while. He takes time one on one in class and I found this very helpful for me. This is the second time I have taken a class from him.

Houff was one of the most helpful math teachers that i have ever had. he is very clear in how he teaches and very very helpful as long as you ask for help. hes one of the funniest and coolest math teachers before Houff i hated math, and now i kind off like it i would recommend him to anyone and i wish that he tough MTH 65

Most Likely the best instructor at P.C.C. He also looks like Luke Skywalker and teaches you how to use the force in math.

There are so many horror stories about math 60 teachers making students sing songs about math & other idiotic activities. Houff just teaches you math, such a relief. Explains WHY you do things certain ways instead of just saying "do it this way." Isn't nitpicky about showing work or standard format, just looks to see if you understand the concepts.

Best Teacher ever,I hated math and failed twice before in math 20 because I just could not grasp any of it.Simply put - Math was painful!Mr.Houff made me love going to class, doing my homework and learning!If only we could be so lucky to have more teachers like him!

Best teacher you could ask for! Math wasn't my strongest subject. He makes it clear and fun and relaxing. Highly highly recommend. If you get the pleasure of having him don't hesitate. Wish I could have him for every math class!

Great teacher. Very thorough in his lectures. He doesn't just give you the answers/formulas but guides you in the right direction so you're able to think on your own. He's super friendly with a sense of humor. I haven't attended a class yet this term where I haven't laughed. Lol. Wish I could say the same for past instructors I've had.

An excellent instructor. Took him for two terms, math 62 & 63 and did fantastic in both classes. Couldn't have done it without his careful attention to detail. Thanks Mr. H.

If you take Mr. Houff's class, consider yourself lucky. He's one of the best teachers PCC has to offer. He takes the time to explain why you are dong what you are doing, not just memorizing formulas. I have taken him for two sections, and I hope to be in on of his classes in the future. Great teacher!!!

Awesome teacher, makes things clear and does whatever he can to help students that need extra help. More teachers need to be just like Mr. Houff. Portland Community College is privileged to have him.

He was a awesome teacher and would recommend him to anyone to take him for math, he is so patient and wants you to learn the math. I would take him for any math he teaches.

Trigonometry is difficult for me. He took the time to explain how and why during class, and the math part actually began to make sense. I struggled and worked hard, but he really helped me be more successful. I highly recommend him!

Mr. Houff is AWESOME! I can't stand math, and Mr. Houff made it bearable. Mr. Houff is awesome at explaining stuff, will work with you as much as he possibly can, and is fun to learn from. If you're considering a math class, make sure his name appears as the instructor. Thank you Mr. Houff!

He is an amazing math teacher! I took him for 62 and 63 and did amazing. He takes the time to make sure we get the concepts down and go slow. There is no computer work required which is helpful if you struggle with math already.

He is an outstanding teacher. Very good at imparting knowledge and a fun instructor.

Houff is the man! Math and I aren't good friends and he teaches in a way that helps you know why you're doing what you're doing not just how to do it! and funny helps a lot too. Houff is easy if you do the homework and put forth the effert

The most amazing instructor any student could ask for...Lectures are clear, neat. He prepares you completely for all tests and quizes, no suprises. Fun, friendly, makes math fun. I really enjoyed the class, and I'm sad he can't be my instructor for all my math courses, if I had a choice, I'd pick him everytime!

Houff is the best. He explains everything as simply as possible and makes sure everyone gets what's going on before he moves along. If you don't like math but have to take it, this is the guy to teach you!

Amazing experience. He is very thoughtful, and got his mind around how to teach us from our perspective, not from his math wiz perspective. THAT is what makes a good math teacher. He went well above and beyond, even following a student out of class who had a meltdown, to bring her back in and stay. Other math teachers should pay attention to him!

Stefan is an amazing teacher who brings a lot of passion to Calculus and really wants his students to wrap their brains around the material. He's easy to get along with and goes out of his way to help students who are struggling by gently prodding them towards the correct approach. I can say nothing but the best about Stefan. Highly recommend.

OMG Best teacher ever! He will make you love math, or at least not cry. He's compassionate, funny and over all just amazing. If you need a level 100 math class and don't have to go beyond math111, just take 105 with Stefan; it's so worth and it's awesome.

Savage math teacher! I have been dreading taking calculus for years and finally singed up. I can't say how glad I am that Stephen was my professor. He is extremely helpful and breaks things down so you can conceptualize them in your own way, so your not just memorizing steps but truly understanding the process. I highly recommend him to ANY ONE!

Absolutely loved his dedication & love for the subject. It made the class so much more interesting. He really cared about the success of the students, and their understanding of the varying topics. No textbook was required, which made it slightly difficult. However, he explained everything really well. For the first time I was excited about math.

Great Instructor thus far here at PCC. I'm scared to take the next class unless Mr. Houff can teach it to me. He's very clear, and doesn't mind explaining things more than once.

Best Math Teacher at PCC. I'm pretty sad he's not teaching 95 this spring, and he didn't teach 65 in the winter either. Where are you Houff?! I would take take his class at any campus, he's that good. He's also a very good guy. If you struggle with math, take Houff, you will not regret it.

One of the best teachers I have ever taken. He is really nice and friendly. He did even push back the midterm exam when the students complained that they didn't have enough time to study. He is also easy in grading. Very helpful and always willing to help with what you don't understand. I would love to take his class again.

The absolute best math teacher I've had in a long time!!! He really knows how to explain things and provides a lot of time to go over homework and quizzes so you have a full understanding before the exam!!!

Mr. Houff is perhaps the best math teacher I've ever had. He doesn't pull any punches with quizzes or exams, but will make sure that you have absolutely everything you need to ace them if you're motivated. He is very good at explaining thing so that they're easily understood and is more than willing to meet with you personally to help. Great man!

Thee best teacher I have ever had. He takes his time and makes sure you understand the concept. Makes time ensure the understanding and steps to solve a problem. I need him for all my math classes. he has been the only instructor so far in my education to break it down and clarify any misunderstandings. #GreatTeacher

Attendance is at your own risk, quizzes are usually informed, he grades HW & Lab when he feels like collecting and strongly urges you to do them even if they are not collected. He's an easy grader and not as strict as some math teachers. He does expect you to know the format of solving. If you put the effort into the class you'll get the A.

Stefan is an incredible instructor. He is realistic about expectations and information, helpful, accommodating to multiple learning styles and keeps the class lively.

Very hesitant about taking a Calc 1 class my first term back to school in four years. Stefan is so relatable and helpful, he made this class a breeze. He collected homework spordaically, but expected it all to be done, and was always there whether you went into his office for questions, or emailed him pictures of your assignment if you missed class

Mr. Houff is an absolutely amazing instructor who has a diverse and dynamic teaching style that is highly commendable. I am a student with disabilities and Mr. Houff communicated the information in many different ways to ensure that it was comprehensive. He makes himself available for questions and communicates his curriculum in layman's terms.

He is very helpless and always helped the students that asked for help. All of his tests were basically just the same exact thing as his study guides except with different numbers. He always assigned the homework with the problems being odd so that we could check our answers in the back of the book. Overall he is bae and I recommend him TBH.

Stefan was an excellent teacher. He cares about his students, and is available if you need help. A lot of subject matter is covered each class, so you should show up to class. There are multiple homework assignments every week.

He is the best Math professor ever. He is so passionate to get you to fully understand the whole concept and therefore rarely gives you crazy assignments or quizzes. Some lab question are tough! (not on the test tho) The textbook is used for finishing HW and looking up "the SOLUTION MANUALS"! (the best way to get A) Quizzes and finals are simple.

Houff was a wonderful teacher. He is obviously very passionate about what he does and gives his students every opportunity to succeed. He starts his lectures off with a warm-up, followed my any questions we may have had on the homework. He would do the work step-by-step to ensure that we all grasped the concepts, but did so in a timely manner.

Very good at what he does awesome professor. He loves what he does he's so passionate about it and the way he teaches and approaches himself is comfortable pay attention and use your book. And you will get an A attractive too...

Mixes art and geometry. He has a way of explaining the material that is very intuitive of what your thing.

I took Stefan for both math 95 and math 105. Best teacher, hands down. He is crazy good at breaking things down and making it as intriguing as possible along the way. He is so approachable and will take however much time needed to ensure you understand.

What a remarkable teacher Stefan Houff truly is. He had the most easy respectful and strong control of our big class. He responded warmly to every comment, question, rant, and concern. The least intimidating and most clear math class I have ever experienced! And how lucky we are to have him here at PCC Cascade!!! Take his classes! You'll love it!

Stefan is one fantastic teacher. He is patient, clear, concise, and incredible all around. He's helped me understand concepts it took me months to even begin to get the first time around. Take his class, you're not gonna regret it, no matter what level you're at.

Stefan is awesome and makes the lecture really understandable and easy to take notes from. Goes through many examples and a portion of the class is working in groups so you get a chance to ask one on one questions. He emails every class, is always in communication. You need to go to all classes or you will fall behind but that just because its calc

I loved his class. He was funny and caring. Wouldn't move on until the entire class understood the material. Created a fantastic learning experience and was very helpful. I will try to get him next semester again.

Houff is the best teacher I have ever had. If you struggle with math and have the opportunity to take it with him, do it. There have been times in other math classes that I felt I would never get a degree because I struggled so much with math. My confidence and outlook towards math has completely changed because of his enthusiasm and patience.

Easy grader, very approachable! and is always accessible during office hours. The textbook is free and online, we only used it for hw problems. He assigns h.w. but rarely collects it there are quizzes, a midterm and a final. Study the PRACTICE EXAMS cuz the actual exam is the same but different numbers. If you have Q's during a test, he will help

Never in my life would I think I'd pass a math class especially above a C! Stefan is easily one of the most remarkable teacher's I've ever had. He does not grade hard at all. He truly believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself, he truly wants his students to pass and will make sure we understand his lectures before moving on. Only 1 exam.

Possibly the best math teacher I ever had. Takes questions albeit, ones that are relating to the lecture. Cares about his students' success and Stefan loves new ideas. Calc 2 can bring along tough concepts but he really makes it so much better. Saw him arm-wrestle a student the other day, just cuz. What a guy. Also explains concepts super well.

Stefan is definitely a character. He is fun and engaging and makes the difficult work of understanding and wrapping our minds around Calc 2 easy. Sometimes I feel like he does not explain concepts enough or organize class time effectively, but he is genuine and accessible and fun (he arm-wrestled a student earlier for 0.5 extra credit haha!).

Stefan was incredible. His lectures were engaging and informative, and he always made sure that everyone was on track with the material. There was a considerable amount of homework, but doing it made me feel well prepared for the exams. Stefan also sent out emails a few hours before class detailing the lesson plan for the day, which was very nice.

Got the material across while still cracking some jokes and keeping most people engaged. Took time to answer questions fully. Assigned a good amount of homework so except to spend several hours on this course per week. Small thing but made a huge impact, he sent out emails with what the next class would cover and any assignments he would assign.

Prof Houff seems to truly enjoy teaching. He puts time into preparing for class and his interactive lecture style is great. He goes out of his way to be kind and encouraging and creates a sense of community in the class. There is a lot of homework, but it was well designed for learning the material. A great prof I'd definitely choose again.

Best math teacher and just best teacher in general. He's always prepared and ready for the class. He's passionate, funny, smart and most importantly he really wants you to learn. I will b miss his teaching in PSU. If you struggle in math or don't even like it, take his class, because he will make sure that you understand and will help you alot.

Overall, was a great instructor, though his teaching style maybe didn't line up with me. I have some auditory processing issues and I found myself asking him to repeat or reword things because he would explain things mostly verbally in lectures. For the most part, he was super accommodating about this and I still had a good experience.

Stefan is the best math teacher I've had (and probably will ever have). He's animated during lectures and does his best to ensure every student understands the material. Spends quality time answering all questions. Flexible with quizzes and tests if you aren't ready for one. Gives homework each class but it helps with retaining information. 11/10.

Caring and awesome guy, always seems excited to be in class and teaching. Takes time to go back and answer questions on past topics and homework from last class.

Such a great professor honestly. He takes his time to fully explain the problems and even explain questions. Though sometimes that can get him carried away, he truly makes math be easy to understand. Overall, show up to class, do the homework and practice sheets and you'll succeed in his class.

His lectures are engaging, and his grading is extremely fair. Very gracious on small mistakes in exams and is far more focused on if you understand how to do the problem. Best math professor I've had. My only critique is that he's too nice to people that stall the class.

Great, great teacher. Loved all the class time didn't feel dragged out at all, all the time spent was time well spent learning and cementing our understanding of concepts. I really enjoyed doing the homework that was given cause coming to class next was great to ask questions and make sure my understanding was correct. 10000/10 recommend.

ABSOLUTELY take Stefan. He is THE best math teacher I have ever had. Houff made math so much easier for me and gave me my first A ever in a math class. He'll go above and beyond for you to understand how to genuinely do math. I would 100% recommend, I'm personally going to take him again every math class he teaches.

Light hearted and kind.

This guy makes math HAPPEN in my brain! The only place where I am not afraid to say the wrong answer is in Houff's classroom. If he asks a question and you blurt out the wrong answer (as long as you're on the right track) he will basically give you a round of applause. You can tell he not only loves to teach, but loves to learn.

Stefan was really helpful and insightful about how to help students that struggled with harder math. He was kind and made sure everyone had the resources they needed to pass. The class was extremely approachable.
