She moves fast in lectures, so get ready. All of her slides go on canvas, personally I find it easier to retake my notes later off of canvas to fill in what I missed. Do the reading guides if you want to do well on the exams, they are primarily application based. Weekly quizzes and hw assignments. Stay on top of work and you'll do fine.
I love her, she is a wonderful person and her lectures are great. Annoying group activities and she goes very fast, but she posts the slides online so it is not necessary to take them in class. Exams have past quiz questions, and the averages are pretty high too. Take notes &study before exams- also there is a group exam every time. 2 exams + final
Best professor I've had so far. She knows what she's talking about but lectures in a way that is understandable to students. She wants her students to do well and is very accessible for office hours/extra help. Highly recommend!
Dr. DeVito is very passionate and knowledgeable on the subject and was able to provide real life examples to help understand topics. Highly recommend!
She is a good teacher, however she goes through a lot of content fast. I felt like I had to teach myself a lot of the time, especially towards the end of the semester. The studio portion of integrated bio and chem is pretty useless. During her office hours, she is very helpful and explained content to me another way and helped me to understand it.
Devito is an amazing professor, she really knows what she's talking about. The group in class activities are so helpful and the homework load is reasonable. Her only downfall is that she can be condescending and hard to approach sometimes. But definitely one of the best bio teachers at this school.
I had heard good reviews about DeVito in the past which is why I was so surprised to not enjoy this teacher at all. The pace of the class is very fast, which is okay but office hours are only held for one hour a week. She especially tends to speak down to students as well, as gets angry when the class is confused on a topic.
She posts all of her slides online but during class all she does is read directly from them and provides no insight. Exams count for 60% of your grade. She always expected a lot from us and honestly most of the time I felt lost. Given, I didn't put in a ton of work but her teaching style was not favorable.
Very nice teacher. However, if you never had a great biology teacher in the past she goes way too fast to understand the material. GO TO OFFICE HOURS SHE SLOWS DOWN.... (Little condescending at times though).
She is new at teaching physiology so I will give her some slack, but at times it was frustrating bc I felt she didn't even understand the material she expected us to. She does give plenty of points in the class so exams don't make or break you. You definitely need to study, but her exams aren't too bad. Overall she is a pretty good prof.
Professor Devito is nice and knows her material really well but she does go extremely fast. If you don't have a good bio foundation you will need to put in extra work and study more often. Her exams are okay but definitely need to study to do well in the class because she does go very fast.
A really all-around great professor and one that all freshman Bio/Chem majors should hope to get. She will give very thorough lectures and course material, while still maintaining a personal element with her students and will help you in any way that she is able to. It's up to you to take and review notes but she gives you all the tools to succeed.
Awesome class to take! Very easy and straightforward. No exams. Grades based on papers, discussions, activities. Do a lot of reading, and write a lot. Your writing for scientific articles will improve after this class. Do the work, and you'll receive an A.
Dr. Stefanie Devito is probably the worst Professor I have ever had. She is a young professor, so she thinks her ego is very big and she tries to act as if her BIO107 class is upper level physics. She penalizes you for everything including homework. Does not give fair exams. Very passive aggressive. Worst exam averages. Not very elaborate.
this class is constant quiz grades and homework grades with little to no teaching. It is a huge challenge and she is very nice but the material is thrown at you really fast. If you do not have a background in biology you will have to study more for this class and probably won't have free time.
I had Dr. DeVito for bth BISC207 and 208. You will get out of her class what you put into it. She has optional reading guides for each lecture. I highly recommend that you do them, as you will have a better understanding of the topic at hand. GO TO OFFICE HOURS AND GET TO KNOW HER. She is incredibly intelligent an a great educator. 10/10 prof.
I love this professor! She is very kind and definitely thinks very hard about how she can best teach her students, which is rare for college professors who only teach because they have to. Learned a lot about pedagogy and how to improve my learning and teaching habits. Very easy A for this class in particular. Peer mentor for her - she's great!
If you want to learn this is the class! The way the class is structured is very organized, so the resources and the ability for you to be successful are there for sure. However, if you want to receive an A you really have to put in the work for the class. I loved the Professor, she moves fast, but clear and concise.
Not good at teaching
This was the best professor I've ever had in all my four years of college. She is one of the cutest people ever ! HIGHLY recommend
I also had Devito for BISC207, but she is a very caring professor. She is very accessible out of class, so there is no need to worry about that. She does have clicker quizzes during lecture, so make sure you are present. However, if you study her notes frequently, you should do fine in the class. One of the best professors I had so far at UD.
She has short pre-lecture videos, optional reading guides, a homework assignment and weekly quizzes. Exams were mostly reasonable. Lecture would mostly be spent doing helpful worksheets in groups. She was nice most of the time but could get unnecessarily condescending at times. Overall, I would recommend taking her.
The class is very fast-paced and you have to put in some effort if you want a good grade. Lots of little assignments that help boost your grade. DO ALL OF THE PRE CLASS WORK. Getting a background on the info will help you so much. If you are struggling there are so many people to reach out to for help and actually take advantage of that.
She's fine. She will get condescending with you, and she gets mad at the class for not understanding a topic despite her explaining it very poorly. Otherwise, show up. In-class quizzes are big so make sure to get your points. If you watch the pre class videos, you will have a sense of direction in the lecture. Skip the worksheets but note vocab
Doesn't teach much. Very pre-class, on your own , prep heavy class. Expects you to be familiar or more with materials that have not been taught. Exams are tough and tricky; Difficult to study for and ***very*** application based questions with open notes. She is caring but makes the class hard.
Dr. Devito was a great professor! Her class was a lot of outside work, and if you don't do the work to prepare for the lecture you probably won't understand what's going on. Her class had a heavy workload but doing it all for understanding and not just for completion pretty much guarantees a good grade.
Dr. Devito was a great professor, but her classes relied a lot on prelecture material and group work. She grades all of the in class questions, but removes so many of the lowest grades received. She also loves breakout rooms and group exams, so be prepared for that. Go to her office hours and make sure to reach out because she loves to help!!
Dr. DeVito is very caring and willing to answer any questions you have. Her class is a LOT of pre-class work, which can be frustrating sometimes. My only real complaint is her exams are very difficult, especially if you dont have a good bio background.
She was great with examples and explaining concepts and her lectures were great
DeVito was the best professor I had all semester, her class is set up to help students succeed, if you do the work. Listen to the advise her and the PM's give, it helps and DO THE READING GUIDES. I took AP Bio in HS so her class was a breeze and her lectures were interesting and engaging.
She does not lecture during class, so be sure to complete the pre class work.
Dr. Devito is just brilliant. Her class isn't necessarily an "easy A", but she makes sure you understand exactly what is expected of you. She's a little intimidating, but when you go to office hours you learn that she's the COOLEST PROFESSOR EVER and an overall sweetheart. Just study ALL the material she gives you and you'll be A-Okay.
Honestly one of the best professors I had. She was super caring and she does this thing of swapping the classroom(basically class time is for practice and application and you are taught during non-class time) Highly recommend her. Also, do the optional reading guides and assignments those help a bunch.
Dr. DeVito’s very well versed in biological vocabulary, making it hard to keep up at times, but she truly knows what she’s talking about and it shows that only wants the best for you
She seems really nice but she does not care about any of her students.
Most caring professor I had at this school. I took her class last year and it was tough while taking but after taking upper level classes I'd kill to have her again. One of the only professors I have had that actually cares about her students. Lots of assignments, but they're a grade booster so if you don't do well on exams you can still get an A.
DeVito is really sweet and gives a fair amount of work. Class time is mostly spent applying pre-class lecture material through tophat questions and worksheets. Not necessarily an easy A but if you put in the work you will be fine. One of the best profs I've had at UD.
Dr.Devito is truly a great professor for BISC207/208. Your weeks are outlined in an email and canvas, information you should know is always given to you. Her class is very application based, so knowing the material is important, it is not memorization based. Her and the peer mentor team are always there to help with anything in/out of the classroom
Doctor Devito was okay, she has pre class videos, guides, and quizzes that you take each week. The material was complicated and she goes through it fast, but she has office hours each week and peer mentors. Exams were very hard, the way she words things are confusing! 1 sheet of notes for exams and she tries to prepare you for the most part.
Single handedly the cause of my habitual abuse of lexipro
Very nice and has many office hours after class to review material
Dr. DeVito is a fantastic lecturer, she is clear and very informative. I'd recommend volunteering to answer questions to stay engaged. Her exams are very helpful and lots of additional help is provided by her and peer mentors in and out of class. My favorite professor of the semester.
Dr. Devito makes you do all of this pre-class work because she doesn't want to teach in class. Also, in those pre-class video lectures she moves extremely fast and I find myself having to watch them many times before I understand. She can be very sassy in class and the lecture doesn't help when it comes to learning the information. did not enjoy
The lectures aren't really lectures, it is more a review of what the lecture videos go over. The material was kind of hard but the office hours are helpful and it is easy to ask questions to either her or a peer mentor during lecture or outside of class. Her exams are application based rather than memory, making them a bit harder. Would take again!
DeVito does not teach in class. You have to watch pre-lecture videos that take forever to take notes on and they are so confusing. She is not easy to talk to and has an attitude. Her outfits are what entertained me in class. My grade was decent only because of the poll everywhere questions and attending class.
Dr. Devito does not lecture. All of her teaching revolves around pre-lecture videos, pre-class guides, and pre-class quizzes. She overcomplicates topics and makes you feel dumb when asking questions. She does not offer any form of extra credit. She relies on her TA's way too much and her exams are extremely confusing no matter how much you study.
The only reason I ended with an A- in this class is because I took AP Bio in high school. Dr. DeVito is extremely condensing and constantly has an attitude, even though she has no right because she doesn't even teach. I only went to class because I had to, not because I learned anything. Get a good tutor for this course in order to teach you.
Made material more intricate than it needed to be
If learning through videos is difficult for you, I would choose a different class. The recorded lectures are helped by slides that get you the simpler parts of a topic (which she elaborates on during in-person lecture). I found her helpful in class and accessible, but the exams ARE difficult. You will need your hw/cw to help you study for them.
Takes attendance. Very strict and will make sure you are not off topic in class. Tests allow one sheet for notes. Shes a good professor and know the subject but lots of homework. Gets annoyed with talking in class. Is willing to help after class and explain if needed. She cares and is kind but gets annoyed easily. If you work hard you will be fine.
Dr. DeVito was good overall but would have moments when she would yell at the class for packing up early or being loud which seemed very unprofessional.
She will snap at students for not understanding something she explained very poorly. Her exams were open note, now it appears students can only bring in one page of notes. Don't do anything fishy because her peer mentors (sometimes) speak up. If you're slick about it, or if you can leave early and finish it elsewhere, you're golden.
Often is quite rude to her students, and yells at them. Exams are extremely difficult and you basically have to teach the material to yourself by watching lecture videos while she goes over completely unrelated material during lecture.
good teacher, watching the pre lecture videos really help.
Very easy class as long as you do the work. Go to lectures as participation can really boost your grade (I had a participation grade of 120%). The pre class videos are important as those are the real lectures which introduce new topics.
Her class is honestly really organized but I find it hard to reach out as I feel she has attitude with a lot of her students. Although she is a really passionate and knowledgeable teacher, the envioronment through me off.
I took this professor for two semesters and I actually enjoyed her classes. There was a lot of homework outside of class (Mastering Biology, Scientist Spotlights, pre-class videos & quizzes) but you WILL do well on the exams if you do those homework assignments. Be respectful, show up to every class, do your homework on time, and use office hours.
As long as you study from mini quizzes and weekly quizzes the exams are fairly easy to get a high grade on
Lots of exams and mini exams. make sure to pay attention to mastering biology and poll everywhere questions for the exams. lots of pre class work every week. overall nice person just hard to learn from. you do get a cheat sheet on every exam which was nice.
Never curves exam even if the average is a 70. Reads off the slides and lecture pacing is either too slow/fast in weird order. Learning Objectives dont match to exams. Attendance is required but pointless. Harsh grading but if you make an argument for your answers especially if it was in the slides/textbook will regrade. Accessible outside of class
Really good Biology professor, a lot of homework but if you follow the schedule she gives you to stay on track, you should be fine. Put in the work during the pre class guides because they make lecture a lot easier. Overall a good professor!
There are a good amount of assignments outside of class but they are helpful and most of them help boost your grade. The exams can be difficult but mastering biology assignments, weekly quizzes, and in class guides are good tools for studying. Her and her ta's are very helpful and are often available outside of class especially before exams
I really liked everything she did and felt that everything we did in class helped me understand, and none of it was wasting time. Be prepared for class to get the most out of it.
Good professor teaching wise but she will treat the class as a high school class. Yells at class, spent 15 minutes lecturing the class about how speaking when she is speaking is disrespectful but it was a student asking her TAs a question. Every week she was yelling at her class for no reason, wasting time and then going through the lecture quickly
Prof. Devito is very good and the class overall really isn't that bad. Expect to have a lot of homework and a lot of unnecessary things to do. Her tests aren't too bad but they are only about 25-50 questions and getting a handful wrong will drop your grade. Having no curve is the problem in this case.
She gets an attitude sometimes but overall the class is pretty easy. Lots of quizzes but they aren't weighted heavily. She uses pollev for credit so try to make every class. Only 2 exams and a final which are not hard if you study.
Professor DeVito is a very good professor. She explains things thoroughly and constantly asks if anyone has questions. Her TA's are amazing as well (shoutout Rachel)! The exams were very application based and require you to know the material well. The only bad thing I'd say is when I did ask a question sometimes she would make me feel idiotic.
Spent too much time on case studies rather than going over topics. Would spend half of class time rushing through slides. Tests were application but there wasn't enough practice with application to do well on exams, since we would spend an entire class period going over one case study.
Honestly, I think she is a good professor, extremely respectful if you email her a question.....not so much if she catches you talking in class. The material was easy because she repeated herself every class, she teaches on her "lecture video" homework assignments. My main issue was sometimes her online quizzes had information not covered in class.
Dr.Devito is a great teacher, she records very helpful before-class lecture videos. I would recommend watching these because they make her lectures very clear. Overall she is a very good teacher. Make your cheat sheets for the exam they are SUPER helpful
I adored Professor DeVito! She was so easy to reach and I love how she ran her lectures. Joining the iBC was such a great decision I would most definitely recommend. She prepared us well for all exams, and her work load was very manageable.
prof devito was so nice and actually cares about her students. i feel as someone who has always struggled with biology that i learned a lot. definitely need to pay attention and do all the work. for exams you are given a cheat sheet and there are 3 exams and 2 mini exams. practice mastering bio's and pay attention and you will do just fine.
Dr. Devito was a very good teacher. However, she does not round grades (finished with an 85.98%, would not round), but her tests were very confusing and application heavy. As long as you look over pre-class and in-class guides, along with past homeworks and quizzes, you'll be fine. She cares for the success of her students.
Lots of homework, but take it seriously, the questions will pop up on exams. Go to lecture, take notes, and study for each exam. Hard work will pay off. Use your resources, everyone wants to help and see you succeed. She is a great professor, be respectful that everyone is there to learn.
I had her twice. The workload-test balance was the best I've seen at this university. Go to class; PollEv participation fluffs your grade (you get credit even if you're wrong!) Don't talk over her. Contrary to other reviews, her tests perfectly matched classwork. I did well on all of her exams except for the final. You can bring a cheat sheet.
In class we mostly did case study problems but I felt like it did not help for the exams, only for about 2-3 questions. She was an okay professor, just don't forget to watch and take notes on the lecture videos prior to class. I often found her to be a bit rude to students which I did not love.
well organized and note sheet are helpful
Dr.Devito was a tough professor; her wording in her homework and exams made the material harder than it had to be. She has two mini-exams, two main exams, and a final. Whenever I went to her office hours, she was extremely rude and made me feel like I had little to no knowledge of her course. She hates it when people talk over her so she will yell.
Take physiology with a different professor. 3 of 4 exam averages were below a 68% and she never curves. A few weekly quizzes and homeworks are dropped but this will not help your grade. She reads straight off her awful lecture slides and her TA is more knowledgable than her. I'm an amazing student and failed two exams DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!
Dr. DeVito's class requires extensive pre-class prep with videos and note-taking. Homework feels irrelevant and doesn't align with exams. While there's no practice exams, a notesheet is allowed, making tests manageable. PollEvs and in class case studies feel excessive, but her notes guide is solid, and good note-takers can excel. Effort pays off.
Her class is detailed and difficult. Expectations are very clear in her syllabus. EVERYTHING on her exams come from her slides. How I succeeded in this course is having a good understanding of topics she puts a strong emphasis on in class and on case studies. I wrote a detailed cheat sheet with small details from slides and got 85+ on all exams.
Her lectures are very interactive and are super helpful at learning the material. Lots of work and quizzes outside of class. If you pay attention to her lectures you will do well. She does run her class like it is high school though and can be very passive aggressive if students are on their phones or talking.
I had Devito for Integrated BISC207. Rubrics and expectations for the class are clearly explained. One paged cheat sheets are allowed for all tests INCLUDING the final. In my experience, if you take the time to fill out as much of the cheat sheet as possible, you hardly even need to glance at the cheat sheet during the exams.
Shes a very nice professor, will sometimes have a attitude, the TAs are so nice and a big reason why i passed the class
Dr. Devito is amazing. She is a very hardcore biology professor, but she completely knows what she is talking about. Be prepared to have to fully understand material going into exams, or you will not succeed. She has good office hours times as well!
She's a great professor who really knows her subject well and explains concepts clearly. She's approachable and easy to talk to outside of class. Her teaching style makes the class a supportive learning environment that encourages students to succeed.
I think she is one of the best biology professors here. She is really approachable during her office hours, she speaks at a good pace during lectures and walks through the reasons why some of the answers to the PollEvs are wrong. Watching the pre-class videos was really helpful for studying for exams or making your cheat sheets. Definitely take her
Devito provides in class guides for everyone to easily follow along with slides and use as study guides, she always does a great job engaging the class with pollev questions and examples of what we are learning. She's been the sole reason I'm happy to attend bio each wk.
flipped course for the most part. she is amazing i took her for BISC207 and BISC208, she gets a lot of test questions from the pollevs. her slides are minimal but definitely go to class because she gives a lot of useful notes that arent on the slides so you have to actively listen.
If you have to take BISC208, take DeVito. She's a great teacher and seems to care about her students' progress in the class. Can sometimes be abrupt when communicating with students in lecture. Exams are fine if you make a good cheat sheet, study, and don't overthink it. She doesn't throw curveballs. There was no final cumulative exam either.
She responds to emails fast and is nice and enthusiastic, but she is difficult to learn from because there's so much material crammed into each class. I felt like her class was a full-time job and way more than 3 credits worth of information.
She is a good professor who uses a variety of methods to help students understand the material. However, if you ask her questions she is often condescending or sassy. If she had a better attitude or was more eager to be helpful, she could be a great professor.
Dr. Devito was amazing. She is so interested in the topic and makes learning fun. She's also very understanding when something comes up and you have to miss class. Participation is very important and the content is not easy, but she's a great teacher.
I had Dr.DeVivo for BISC 303 last semester, and it was a pleasure to learn with her. Lectures were always clear and organized, even though it was her first semester teaching this class; feedback - always appreciated, and in-class participation - important. Pay attention to weekly quizzes (not book-generated). No extra credits, but grading is fair.
She was a good teacher but the exams were so confusing and difficult :(
She was amazing, just can be harsh sometimes. Lots of work out of class but her lectures are great and if you put in the work, it will be rewarding.
Dr. Devito is very knowledgable and has a great understanding but has a tendency to overcomplicate things. She will show diagrams or explain topics in a complex way that becomes overwhelming in the long run. There is at least 6 assignments due per week, consisting of pre-class and post class work. She is very organized so there's lots of practice.
She really is a good teacher. Her lectures are very interactive and interesting. However, the mini-exams and tests are pretty difficult but by going to office hours and rewatching the videos she puts out before each class you will be good. 10/10 would take again!
love her. she is so good at teaching - she makes analogies for stuff and its so helpful. her class actually goes by fast because she keeps u engaged and participating the entire time.
Professor Devito is awesome! BISC207 was a manageable course with only a couple quick assignments per week. Be sure to do the preclass guides as they help during lecture. Her exams are straightforward and you get cheat sheets. Use the public exams as a resource and attend office hours!
Devito is a good professor but the way she teaches can be hard to follow sometimes. She tends to overcomplicate topics and spend a significant amount of time working on difficult examples while we are still learning the material for the first time. There are A LOT of assignments but it's not too difficult. Her office hours are helpful.
Lectures are straightforward, and practice quizzes/exams helped prepare for the real ones.
