She set a easy first test, The class aver was approx 80. As result, she promised harder exams. Her exams got to the point where there was too much content for the time given the exam. the last exam average was below 50. If you decide to take her, practice how to take heavy content under a 50 minute time limit. Good luck.
She's a great gal.
She's ok, she basically just does her lectures straight from the textbook. Just make sure to keep up with the material. Study Edge was honestly a must in order to understand the material.
Prof. Habenicht gave an easy exam 1 and 2 but both test 3 and 4 had averages in the 50s. She did say the exams would get harder, but time became an issue especially with tougher synthesis problems. Bond energy is an important concept to know. Yes, I would have taken her again but her final was so difficult and unlike the practice exam that I switch
I had Professor Habenicht for her first semester teaching at UF. She gave easy exams for 1 & 2. However, exams 3, 4, and the final all had averages in the 50's-60's. She was not a very good lecturer overall and I NEEDED Study Edge to keep up with the material. Her tests are very clear and don't try to trick you, like other professors at UF.
I have a pretty good grasp on chemistry. I found this class more then doable (with study edge). But I took a look at a friend's exam from Prof. Portmess on the same material and easily failed it. Morale of the story is orgo is hard. Take this Prof and you could maybe even get an A, take anyone else (Portmess, Schantl, Guo) you'll struggle for a C.
Professor Habenicht was great for Orgo 1. You do not have to go to class. Use study edge and you will be just fine. All of the exams were relatively easy but the final was fairly difficult. If I were choosing a professor for Orgo 1, I would definitely choose Professor Habenicht.
She posts her notes from every lecture to Canvas, which is nice. Her exams are relatively straightforward and not too horrible. She's a very boring lecturer, and you will need to study HARD from day one, but (with StudyEdge) this class is doable. Be extremely diligent, stay on top of the material, and get all the help you can. Good luck!
horrible!
You could tell it was her first semester teaching at a big school like UF, and that makes me want to go a little easy on her, but I feel like the way she graded her exams was unfair (for example, would tell us that a format was completely okay to use on the exam, but would take points off for it). Did not like her teaching style, had to drop
I took her for both orgo 1 and 2, and I liked taking her more during orgo 2. She is a really nice professor and I recommend going to office hours but most students don't even go to class. She posts her notes online so attendance is totally optional. Most students including myself used Study Edge to better learn the material and honestly it's a MUST
She is super straight forward with her exams. Basically, if you study the notes she posts online and read the textbook for things you need clarification on, you will do great on the exams. Many students use study edge for the class and then never look at what she does in lecture which is a huge mistake. Her notes are all you need.
Does not give enough time for exams whats so ever
Hardest of the Orgo 1 professors, gives 50 minutes for way too many problems. Timing is just the issue, the exams aren't impossible, but they are difficult. I would take other professors exams and get A's on them, and I got C's on Habenichts. Such is life
Dr. Habenicht is an outstanding organic professor. She has only taught for a couple years so far at UF, but she clearly understands how to do it. Anything that she tests you on is/was on all of her lecture notes. She really tests your knowledge by giving you tricky questions, so if you're not up to really learning the material, I would not take.
Study Edge is a must for this class but that applies to any orgo 1 professor. She is a great professor, makes clear what she expects us to know for exams, and curves generously.
Great professor, never went to class and just used study edge. TAKE HER!!
Dr. Habenicht is a great professor, she explains things thoroughly in and out of class, but she can be dry at times. Orgo 1 is tough, but is extremely doable with her. She gives worksheets that have problems similar to the exam and she gives a practice exam for each exam. Her curves are reasonable for each exam and she curved at the end. Take her!
She has no average/replace and has more exams with a shorter time limit, making her the hardest orgo 1 prof. Attendance isn't really mandatory, you can learn everything through Study Edge. Also, partial credit is possible after exam regrades. Do many practice problems, and you can easily pass especially with her curve at the end of the semester.
Prof Habenichts is nice as a person and challenges students on the tests with material that is not easy to answer and often her tests contained questions that were not seen before on the practice. Use study edge and do as many problems as you can when studying. There will be problems on the exam that you don't know how to do but there is curving.
She is very smart but sometimes she has difficulty breaking down tough material into simpler terms. She's tough and makes her exams very difficult and time-consuming. Attendance isn't necessary but I recommend going to class anyway, she's very descriptive of what will be on the exam. Use study edge and do a lot of practice problems to pass.
I liked this class. Orgo 1 was easier than I expected, and I never went to class. Study edge was really helpful. Read the book. Her exams are really time intensive but not hard. She curved a ton at the end. In my class, an 80% was an A. On her final, there were questions from Dr. Castellano's 2013 final, so get as many old exams as possible.
Straight from the book, her teaching is uninspired at best. What's the point of a professor whose only real input is testing and grading?
I tool Hab for both orgo 1 and orgo 2 in her first 2 semesters teaching in the entire united states (lol) She was pretty difficult but I didnt go to class once. I used study edge for the all of both classes and got an A in orgo 1 and a B+ in orgo 2. I've heard shes gotten harder but still 10/10 say rely HEAVY on study edge to get you through.
Her notes are crystal clear. Go to class,do the homework, read her notes and practice. She has a very reasonable curve compared to other orgo professors
Dr. Habenicht is very knowledgeable in Organic Chemistry, however she does not do the best job breaking it down for her students. Had to rely heavily on lecture, class notes, and old exams. She will make comments on how specific things she teaches differ from other professors or Study Edge- be aware of that. Go to office hours.
Great organic chemistry teacher. Would take her again over any other professor.
Went to class every lecture for the first exam and her teaching was SO dry I felt like I was wasting my time going. It's really easy to fall behind on practicing if you don't go to class like I did after the first exam (would not recommend). I've never gotten below a B+ before at UF, I'm hoping for a C. Practice is more important than you'd think.
Lectures are hard to stay awake in, and her exams are difficult. Put in a lot of work to do well.
Not a good lecturer, but gave fair exams except for the final. Because she curves fairly and gives mostly fair exams, she is an okay option if you can teach yourself. If you cannot teach yourself, I would avoid her. I recommend using every resource both paid and free, if you want to succeed in this class. Success require studying every day.
Professor Habenict was tough, but fair. She herself was very responsive to emails, and listened. Be prepared to work harder than you ever have for any other class, and be prepared for a final that is cumulative. To study I attended lectures and practiced as much as possible. Do that and you should do fine.
Overall, she is super nice and actually cares if you learn. She always said, "there are no dumb questions," which is really comforting because she really cares if you understand a concept. Her exams were extremely fair; only the final was cumulative and challenging but the rest of the course went well.
Dr. H is one of the better orgo professors at UF, but I couldn't have passed without Study Edge. I went to lecture sometimes, but the videos, practice problems, and practice exams from Study Edge got me the A. I'm especially thankful for the Orgo 2 tutor, Jenn.
Habenicht is the best orgo professor by far. Organic chem material isn't easy but she is the best teacher to do it with. Her exams are super fair, very straight forward (synthesis, predict the product, ranking). Her curve is AMAZING and makes it much easier to get an A than other teachers. Took Peterson for orgo 1 and I think Habenicht is better.
Good teacher but requires a CUMULATIVE final for organic chemistry 2 and no other professors do
Took her for organic 2 and she honestly made life so much easier than I thought it was going to be. Still a hard class but her exams are fair and she teaches the material well and always posts notes/ lectures to look back at. The only downside is her cumulative final exam, but her end curve is generous and she truly seems to care about students.
I had Dr. Habenicht for orgo 2 and while it is certainly a difficult class, she was a great teacher and gave us tons of extra material to study for each test. She gives very generous curves and posts all her notes (and PLENTY of practice problems) online that you must take advantage of. Orgo 2 is a hard class but I would highly recommend Habenicht!
Orgo 2 is a hard class, no way to get around that. But she was very engaging in lectures and had office hours almost every day, often twice a day. If you go to lectures and do the worksheets as you are learning everything (instead of cramming) you can do well. A is achievable if you put in the effort, also the class is on a curve!
After dropping Portmess's orgo 1 due to endless studying and failing I was nervous to go into orgo 1 again, but Habenicht has changed the way I look at the subject and has actually helped make it my favorite class. She explains well and her tests are very fair. I use StudyEdge, but an A is definitely possible without it. Luckily got her for orgo 2!
Ms. Habenicht is a great teacher however you really need to practice A LOT on your own. Sometimes she'll tell you, you have to learn something on your own bc she won't be teaching it in class. Study Edge helps immensely, using her practice tests are really the best way to study for upcoming tests. Also each test is cumulative so remember everything
Really loved taking her class this semester. Awesome teacher and she explains everything so well in class and is available during office hours for students if you need extra help. Got a B+ by myself studying just the notes and worksheets she gives online :) book only needed for little things btw
Orgo 2 was a tough class but prof habenicht is a fair grader. The exams are moderately difficult but fair. I found her lectures to be easy to follow and understand and she really seems like a nice person.
She is a good professor for orgo 1 and her exams are usually fair. I used Study Edge and it helped a lot with the material. They make the class a lot more comprehendible and explain the mechanisms in depth. They also give a ton of practice problems which is necessary to do well in this class. I definitely recommend getting it for this course!!!
Great professor for Orgo 1, very clear on what she wants you to know for her tests and her lectures are easy to understand. She has lists of extra problems to do for practice (and you should do them if you're struggling), study edge was also a good resource.
Had Dr. Habenicht for Orgo 1. I heard she was the professor to get for Orgo 2 but since she has changed the grading scale making it harder to get an A, I'm glad I didn't. Her exams are generally fair, Study Edge helps, she records the lectures. I don't know if this matters to anyone else but she has a very bad attitude just about every lecture.
A lot of her test questions were never covered in lecture; impossible to pass this class w/o outside resources (study edge, did EVERY textbook problem twice, still didn't get it). Tends to be rude when asked questions, and has very HARD exams w/ minimal curve (93 is an A). Her worksheets need better explanations. Save yourself, take ANYONE else.
Her lectures don't go into enough detail as much as her exams. Relied heavily on studyedge. Even then, I studied more than a week in advance, did all the study edge problems and textbook problems but still impossible to get an A in this class (93 is cutoff). Is very rude and doesn't answer questions if she doesn't feel like it. Says no to anything.
I had Dr. Hab for both orgo 1 and orgo 2 and I do not think I could have passed without her. In my opinion, she is a great lecturer and is easy to understand. Although her lectures may not go into as much detail as her exams, that is because she expects you to study from the book and supplements she gives. Her class is difficult but respectable.
Not a great experience to say the least. Lectures weren't nearly as detailed as some exam questions, she gave 2 versions of an exam and refused to curve one whose avg was 15% lower than the other, she had a rude and patronizing tone 90% of the time. if you want to learn orgo from a professor who actually cares, take someone else.
Took Peterson for Orgo 1, loved her. Habenicht just didnt work for me. I had to drop, I couldnt understand her lectures, she bounces all over the place and is very monotone. She also changed her exam style 3 weeks before the final to where you had to write problems and find errors in other problems. I would recommend Peterson instead.
She did a lot to accommodate for students whose circumstances (given the pandemic) did not allow for normal exams. She dropped the grade cutoffs at the end, which helped a lot. Her exams were fair and reflected the practice problems. It is definitely a hard class, which is why many people have rated her low, but she is the best of the options.
Her lectures are monotone but I liked her as a person. She was super accommodating and lowered her grading scale. The in-person exams were extremely fair and based on lecture material, but they definitely got harder moving to online. Do as many problems as you can and look over the notes before exams (some qs are from notes). The final was hard!!
I heard nothing but horror stories about Orgo I, but Habenicht made it great. She's an AMAZING lecturer. Know your notes like the back of your hand, and DO THE HOMEWORK to find your weak spots to fix them. HW isn't mandatory, but it's very helpful. Go to office hours for more help. I never once used StudyEdge, only HW, and got an A in the class.
one of the best professors I have had at UF. lectures are very detailed and the exams are difficult but fair if you pay attention and take good notes! She is writing me a letter of rec for grad school :)
Her lectures are not represented in her exams, but I relied on Study Edge heavily to get the practice and tricks I needed. Peter taught for this class and he provided us with a nice way of understanding the theory behind the content we were learning. The weekly review sessions and open hours that Study Edge offered helped me get a really good grade
She's such a knowledgeable and patient professor. Orgo is obviously a hard class and definitely makes you work for your grade but Hab was a great lecturer. Anything I didn't understand, she explained further in office hours and really cleared it up for me. Both her and Peterson are solid professors!
I had to drop the class (many others did as well during my semester) because the teacher was so hard. She used another teacher's videos for her lectures and then the info learned in those videos was barely on the test. She provided past study guides and tests but her tests were extremely hard.
She gives clear lectures and provides a lot of resources (worksheets, workbook pages, a forum) to aid understanding. I definitely recommend following along with the textbook pages in the syllabus; I basically took two sets of notes (one from the text, one from lectures) and relied on those plus practice exams to score well on the real exams.
Habenicht a solid choice for Orgo 1. Its obviously not an easy class, but its completely manageable if you practice regularly. I went to her office hours once and she was pretty dry but nonetheless helpful.
Took organic chemistry 1 online and it was miserable. There are face to face recordings in addition to online lectures and if you do not watch both, you won't pass (which is irritating having to watch double lectures). Practice tests are nothing like the exams and questions are meant to trick you; not sure why the profs want to see students fail.
This class was pretty tough, as expected from the chemistry department. Study Edge was so useful in my opinion in addition to lectures to provide more practice problems and more in depth explanations. The Study Expert gave some really helpful memorization tips for chirality. Overall difficult but manageable if you put the work in.
Does she know orgo? yes. Does she know to teach it? NO. I'm writing this as I watch my 9th lecture of the week that barely teaches me anything; her lectures are very monotone and if you are writing one thing and it takes you once second longer than her forget about understanding anything she moves extremely fast with content and talks even faster.
Orgo 2 was definitely the hardest science class I have had to take here. Habenicht makes it a little digestible but Study Edge really helps with understanding as long as you stay on top of it along with lectures.
Literally changed my major just so I wouldn't have to take organic chemistry with this prof ever again. She is extremely knowledgable but intentionally tricks students on exams while throwing new material on mid-test. As someone who kept up with lectures and had tutoring 4 days a week, I still failed. Tried hard to be positive but class is draining
She is a good lecturer, but the class is extremely challenging for no reason. Your grade is entirely based on the exams (87%?), which are made way more difficult than they have to be. Basically just a test on exceptions to trick you or on stuff you were not even taught. Hardest class Ive taken at UF (weed-out). They do curve the grades a bit.
Orgo 1 was the hardest course I have probably taken so far. The exams were so ridiculously hard and made up basically all of the course's grade. The averages on exams were in the low 60s, which at the beginning of the course is not a high enough grade to pass the course. Peterson is the best orgo 1 professor, so try and get her.
Her lectures are not the easiest to follow, but that was probably due to the difficulty of the course. However, her questions on exams would always begin with the dreaded words "We have not gone over __ in class" or "In orgo 2, you will learn __." Testing us on material we did not learn was not fair, but besides the exams, she was a good teacher.
Dr. Habenicht is a pretty good professor. She and Dr. Peterson co-taught this class and while I personally preferred Peterson, I also really liked Habenicht. Definitely ask questions on Piazza and take really good notes on the lectures.
Dr. H's online lectures are very good at introducing a topic but don't solely rely on them to get you through the exams. Make sure to watch the F2F lectures and to do ALL of the provided worksheets if you wanna do well in this class. I made the mistake of not doing either of those for a while and it shows in my grade. Rogue Chem is also a big help.
makes unnecessarily hard test questions. didnt watch lectures once. use study edge only. the worksheet/books arent representative of our exams. online exams were harder than the old semester paper exams.
Similar to Peterson but just less clear and a tad ruder. She explained things well during class but also was pretty slow and rarely finished. Apparently she added the hard questions to the exams but that could just be rumors. She did come across a little rude when she answered piazza questions but other than that she was fine.
I really liked Dr.H. Shes one of those professors that is just so brilliant that someones its a bit difficult to keep up, but her lectures and worksheets are very representative of the exams. The exams do get tricky but there is nothing on them that is a great surprise. You really have to study hard and work for the A but it is so rewarding
I took the Peterson/ habenicht hybrid class and I didnt have any preference between either of them. The only difference is that Peterson is more approachable and comes off as nicer in general. As far as the class itself, study every single day! Exams are brutal & content is heavy. Study edge helped me a lot personally. Good luck !
Good lecturer but can use technical language that can be hard to understand. Study Edge helps explain things in a relatable, straightforward way. They provide relevant practice and tips to tackle exam tricks and avoid common mistakes. Lecture content is easier than what is presented on actual exam so it is important to really grasp concepts.
Please I beg you in the name of God. For those of you reading my comment, this Professor is one of the worst set of Professors at UF. She doesn't care about the progress of her students ("NO EXTRA CREDIT "). I failed all the first three exams that I did in her Orgo 1 class during the Fall of 2021. I withdrew from her class. Don't take her class.
Professor Habenicht does a great job explaining hard topics. She also gives plenty of practice problems that prepare you for the exams. The only downside of the class was that the grade was based solely on exams. Organic chemistry is difficult, but it is manageable if you attend class and do the practice problems she provides.
Don't buy the textbook; she gives you a lot of resources that were more helpful in my opinion. Do all the ws and practice tests and use piazza. If you have the time I would do the wbk problems too. Most of the stuff she writes during lecture is not useful nor will you be tested on. Go through and study/take notes on what is important (examples).
Dr Habenicht is a good lecturer and does a decent job of explaining difficult concepts, but orgo is just a hard class. Your grade is composed solely of the four exams and final, so five exams total, which is a lot in one semester. She does give lots of practice problems and practice exams. Buying the textbook is not necessary.
The exams were tougher than the material presented in class. Study Edge helped for this class in terms of learning material. For practice, do Study Edge's problem and the teacher's WB/WS/practice exams to be fully prepared. Orgo 2 with Dr. H was a very challenging course that requires strong critical thinking skills & problem solving skills.
She explained the content clearly and there were many practice problems available. Study hard, keep up with lectures, and use all available materials and you will do well
Not bad; her lectures are super easy to understand but are mundane. Exams are super fair, but the content is significantly harder than the class examples, so be prepared to work. Do every worksheet and workbook problem and attend SI workshops/office hours. Grade boundaries are high but typically get curved. Not my favorite but not the worst either.
Dr. Habenicht is an extremely fair professor. She does not generally try to trick students on exams and if you have studied the material properly, you should have at least some idea on how to do every problem on the exams. Worksheets tend to be a little harder than the exam, the workbook is about the same difficulty. Get study edge if you can.
Lectures are great with plenty of examples. You don't need the textbook as she provides plenty of resources (piazza, SI reviews, worksheets). However, your only grades are 4 exams and a final so study hard.
Orgo is just a hard class in general but honestly, I have no real critques on how Dr. H lectures. Shes not one to drone on and read out slides, she actually walks step by step through the content and always gives examples of the content. To do well in this class you have to really dedicate time to study and practice and practice or youll fail
Orgo is a hard class. However, Dr. H really goes in depth to the material and focuses the WHY/HOW of the processes to build a stronger foundation for future material. I really like how she taught and I think that's why I did well in the class. Ask questions, she will answer them. Highly recommend.
As far as chemistry professors go, Habenicht is amazing. She actually gives good lectures that you can learn from and all of her tests thus far were very fair, I haven't taken the final yet. If you use study edge in addition to lectures and do every practice problem you can squeeze in you will be fine. She makes orgo actually pretty manageable.
Habenicht is a great lecturer. Her lectures are actually useful, and cover everything on the exams. The practice exams are almost identical to the actual exams in terms of difficulty and format. She is the most organized lecturer I know and can be sassy at times. The workload isn't bad at all. Study edge helps but is not necessary
Take this professor if you can! By far the best professor I have had at UF. Tests are very fair and lectures are very helpful/organized. Do the worksheets and practice exams and you will be prepared for her exams. Her office hours are helpful if you are having trouble understanding a concept. Study edge can help but is not necessary at all.
She is the best professor for orgo 1. She is very organized and her lectures are actually helpful. Her exams are very hard, but fair and I never felt they are designed to fail you. The exam difficulty is similar to the practice exams she provides. My only complaint is that sometimes she covers a lot of new material right before an exam.
This class is hard so no matter what you will have to put in a lot of work and time if you want to do well. With that being said it is very manageable if you go to lecture and use study edge. Her lectures are not just a powerpoint, she does examples all class so that is helpful but I also recommend getting study edge to help you.
Dr. H is the best professor ever! She writes all content out from scratch each lecture (instead of flipping through PPT slides). You do not need study edge if you have Dr. H! If you go to lecture, do the worksheets/practice exams, and are proactive with your studying (ask questions on Piazza/in her office hours), you will be prepared for the exams.
Absolutely do not take her if you rely on a professor that will help you through the material. If you ask a question in class she tends to make you feel stupid for even asking a question. She does give a lot of resources but moves extremely fast during lectures.
Definitely the best professor you can have for Orgo. An A is very possible if you focus on the worksheets and lecture notes (all lectures are recorded too). Her exams were very fair and similar to the practice exam. She isn't trying to weed out students and responds fast on piazza.
Dr. Habenicht is extremely fair. Definitely the best orgo prof at UF. Class is difficult, sure, but that's just the nature of orgo. If you go to lecture, do the worksheets, and lots of reviewing, you will be fine. They weren't kidding when they said the key to orgo is to practice; do every problem you can.
Dr. Habenicht is the best professor for Orgo. You have to live and breathe orgo to do well, but Dr. H provides all the tools and support you need. Her exams are similar to the practice ones.
Organic chemistry is a difficult subject but Professor Habenicht makes things as clear as possible and her exams are very fair. She gives students several practice exams that are exactly like the actual exams. Make sure to do the worksheets and practice exams she gives.
Dr. Habenicht is not a bad professor but it's orgo 2; it's not going to be easy no matter what. She moves very quickly and assumes that you understand every reaction after just one example. Also, your grade is solely based of exams, and the final is brutal. She does drop the grading scale a bit. STUDY FROM DAY 1!
Habenicht is a great lecturer. Her notes makes complete sense, and everything she teaches you has an importance for your understanding of orgo or to do good on her tests. Do everything made available to you (practice tests, worksheets) along with a good understanding of orgo 1 knowledge and you will be fine. Study edge great for orgo 1, not orgo 2
Habenicht has a strict grading scale: this semester, the cutoff for an A was 90, with no curves on exams and exams being 100% of your grade. Although it is a hard class, if you put in the time, Habenicht provides you with all the resources to succeed. Her lectures are condensed and straight to the point, her worksheets are S-tier for preparation.
I had Dr. H for orgo 1 as well, and I think she was an even better lecturer for orgo 2. The worksheets were AMAZING for her exams, if you learn how to do all the problems on the worksheets you'll do amazing on the exams. Exams were 100% of grade but fair and similar to practice exams. Grade cut-off was higher than previous semesters (A=90%).
Spent 1-2hrs daily on worksheets-best & only real prep for exams. 4 practice exams-do/review all. Took test & expected A but always got 85s on all tests so my hardest class taken. Somehow ended w/ 86 as an A-. Way harder than Orgo 1. Make a reaction packet to memorize total of 55 rxns spread over 4 exams and 1 final. All of grade is these 5 tests.
Is a very blunt and monotone lecturer, but explains things clearly and easy to understand. Lectures are helpful and if you have study edge, this class is a doable A. Lots of ALEKS hw which is annoying but help cushion your exam grades a bit. Exams are fair and she gives practice exams that are helpful. Would definitely recommend her for orgo 1.
Lectures move quickly and few examples for concepts, study earlier than you think for exams, but she has great worksheets, practice exams, aleks that can help you practice the concepts - study edge isn't super helpful except for reaction maps in the end!
To preface, my grade was entirely due to personal reasons, and I believe Dr. H is an amazing professor. She added Aleks HW this semester to buffer grades. Her exams can be difficult at some times. She provides many platforms to ask questions on, such as Piazza. My only issue is the grading scale, which made it hard to get an A, as an A was a 92.
She gives you so much resources, so if you're not doing well, it's probably you and not her. But that being said she can come off as a bit mean and overly sarcastic, but as long as you're not the one asking stupid questions, you should be fine. That being said, her changing the grading scale at the end of the semester saves your butt.
Orgo is hard everywhere, so the difficulty is fine. She honestly may be the best teacher for this course, giving lots of practice worksheets and practice exams. She can be very rude, though, and seems to have an attitude if asked questions. She lowered the grading scale on the last day by 2 points. Tests can be hard sometimes, but easy other times.
Habenicht is a good teacher. Orgo is a hard class but she made everything (besides exam 4) very fair. She was very accessible outside of class through office hours and piazza. She is not mean, just straightforward. She is very nice and will show you frog pics if you ask nice enough. Study hard, go to SI group, make a groupme, and you'll be fine.
Good lecturer, knows what she's talking about. But her class is unnecessarily difficult to the point where it's not an accurate representation of your knowledge. ALEKS homework wasted so much time we could've used studying. Grading scale makes it insanely hard to get an A. Given lots of practice material, but ultimately, she wants her bell curve.
Orgo is hard in that you need to tie a lot of information together. That being said Dr. H is on ur side. Lectures give you what you need. Use that for the worksheets and EVERY practice exam and you'll be fine. At office hours she's is very helpful making sure you leave understanding. She's strict but she follows her rules. Didn't need study edge.
Besides being wildly unenthusiastic about the entire course, she was a pretty good professor and I enjoyed her class! Just wish she wasn't as condescending and didn't make me feel dumb whenever I asked a question but other than that
Take Habenicht. You CAN get an A in this class. She provides practice problems and 4 full length practice exams for each exam. Records all lectures and posts annotated notes. Accommodating to (REAL) family emergencies. Shifted the grade scale down at the end of the semester. Study Edge is helpful for even more practice problems, but not necessary.
While this class is challenging, I was able to get a somewhat good grade. I found Dr. H's lectures and worksheets to be amazing, and she makes getting a solid grade attainable. My only negative is that she can be a bit passive-aggressive at first in office hours, but does calm down during the semester. UGTA sessions are also a must.
Dr. Habenicht is a good lecturer, but her class is very hard. Her exams are loaded with content, and you have to know all the minor details of reactions/mechanisms in order to do well in her class. She's not very approachable so personally, I didn't enjoy the atmosphere of her class. Don't think I could have done this class without Study Edge.
Professor is good, but her exams are atrocious... her average for her final was about a 57, if that tells you anything... her exams all pick out examples that were barely discussed in class and details that have little to do with the content; homework helps your grade, but is a lot of of work for very little points
Habenicht is a great professor in lectures. She explains information well and has ample resources for you to practice the concepts, including previous exams. However, her exams are incredibly difficult. 4 of the 5 exams had averages below 60%. Luckily, she does curve at the end, but if you do poorly on any one exam, you probably won't get an A.
Habenicht is one of the smartest professors I've ever had, which can sometimes be her undoing. Great lectures (posted online), and tons of practice problems/resources, but her exams are BEYOND difficult + final was graded v harshly. I studied constantly and actually have a good understanding of the material now, but my grades just couldn't show it.
Amazing lectures, super easy to understand unlike Guo. People said her exams were unfair but for the final she sent out an extra practice exam the day before without an answer key and basically 70% of the final was from that extra mock exam. Tons of practice problems which I found to be similar to all other exams. Habenitch >>>. Trust me.
Habenicht is an accommodating professor who provides ample resources, like practice exams and annotated notes. Unstuck AI was a great study aid alongside the class materials. Orgo is challenging, but with dedication, you can ace this course.
Do the gradescope to get exam points back. Lectures weren't great and I ended up changing professors between Organic 1/2. Also not really available outside of class compared to other professors. Still caring about her students though.
Dr. Habenicht is one of the best chemistry professors Ive ever had she is very concise when she speaks and leaves nothing up for interpretation. Orgo is a beast but I think she does everything she can to make sure her students succeed, she provides practice exams that are very similar to the exam and there is a major grading curve for the semester.
Dr. Habenicht is sweet and cares about her class. Her lectures are very helpful, you just HAVE to put in a lot of time on your own but that is expected. Class is super hard but she is a good teacher.
Dr. Habenicht is the best professor you can have for Orgo. She provides clear, detailed lecture slides for all the things that you need to know, and provides PLENTIFUL practice worksheets and exams for you to prepare. Do not take it with another hard class, and put in at least 3 hours a week to review the content. You will get an A.
5 exams & weekly homework. Exams are tough because this is organic chemistry but very similar to worksheets she provides and the 3 practice exams (these are amazing). Dr. H is easily accessible both online and in person for questions and will give you concise, accurate, and helpful answers. Lectures are clear and informative. 100% would recommend!
Lectures are good for getting some background on content but the worksheets are what you really learn from. Frustrating that worksheets and practice exam answers have no explanations but it's nice that she provides the practice. Exams are fair but not easy as expected for orgo at UF. Don't wait until the last minute to study!!!
Dr. H did a great job of explaining concepts with examples in her lectures, and I didn't need to use the textbook at all. She provides tons of practice problems and previous exams, and most exam questions feel quite fair (though there are sometimes a few tricky problems). It's difficult because yeah, it's organic chemistry.
Dr. H was a great professor. Honestly, if you put in the work an A is an achievable grade. Office hours are helpful, so definitely use them. Exams were tricky, but mostly fair with the questions used. You can't study for the exam the day before, if you want a good score (what I did). The grading scale was shifted. Would definitely recommend Dr. H!
Great lectures, helpful/clear notes, and very helpful office hours. Always down to re-explain a concept so students better understand. Exams are fair - difficult but fair. DO THE WORKSHEETS. I had StudyEdge for extra practice/repeated explanations. I would highly recommend taking her if you can.
She records her lectures and the tests aren't that bad, super similar to the practices. She's very monotone, if you have a hard time paying attention/get bored easily, I wouldn't recommend but she's nice and fair for orgo
Habenicht is ridiculous. She gives you super simple worksheets and previous practice exams, and come the exam, she will give the hardest possible reaction and synthesis problems she can come up with. Genuinely you need to be a mastermind to be able to sustain the nonsense that she puts on her exams.
Great course because half the semester was taught by Pete and second half by Habenitch. Going from Pete to habenitch was rough Pete is very entusiastic and attends office hours daily while Hab will have office hours 2x a week, and online answering platform called piazza. I had a 96 average with Pete and my grade dropped to an 90 A-
Amazing orgo instructor, she is truly an organic chemist in every sense. Her lecture were great, practice was good. Only MAJOR downside is wtf were these exams. I am a studyholic and even knowing seemingly everything, I got a 95 and 93% on her final 2 exams respectively. Some questions asked were utterly insane on the exam TLDR: Good but hard exam
i had Dr. H for the second half of Summer 2025. I really respected her dedication to making sure we were provided with the proper materials to succeed. She records all her lectures, has worksheets for every chapter, and three practice exams for each exam. Also, super responsive on Piazza. Hard class, but Dr. H provides the resources.
She teaches well and is very fair for an organic chemistry professor. She records all her lectures and posts them so you can watch them back and provides worksheets with practice problems that make understanding the material a lot easier if you put in the time.
Dr. Habenicht is an amazing professor. The difference between her and (*cough* Portmess) is a world of a difference. She is very accomodating and her exams are incredibly fair, as long as you apply yourself. I had a B for Orgo 1, upped my study game, and have an A right now for orgo 2. I strongly recommend her.
Everyone saying she is fair is lying. Her exams are ruthless and her cumulative final is cruel. She teaches you well but then her exams expect you to have been a chemist for minimum 3 years. Also she only give 1.5 hours for her exams just to be even worse.
The exams were hard even though made a huge amount of efforts in studying. Also would teach new content right before exams and those content will be on there.
I took Dr. Habenicht for both CHM2210 and CHM2211, and without a doubt, I believe she is one of the best professors I've ever had. Orgo is a tough class and the gradebook is 88% exams but Dr. Habenicht provided countless practice problems for each unit and 3 practice exams for each exam. Lectures are recorded and mechanisms are described vividly.
