Mid-East politics. Not bad, not nearly as opinionated as most of the other polisci profs. In general, a fair grader, not too much work (I don't think most of actually read those books). Midterm was ok, should participate in class, attendance counts. Not bad, though.

Her tests are tough so its imperative that you do well on her HW assignments and on her Term paper its what made me still pass her class with a B becuse i didnt do so well on the Final.

I think everyone is being too hard on her. Granted, her tests did cover a lot of material. Last time I check...we're in college, so I guess we get what we pay for? She is a very sweet lady and if you need help with anything, she is more than willing to help. I didn't think she was too bad.

this class was pathetically easy, everyone complains about the excessive reading, but guess what this is college. I thought this class was good, prof. Nanes went over everything we needed to learn, the only problem with the class is the course itself which was very basic.

Nanes is an okay professor but I was rather disappointed. She seemed to be in over her head in some areas. I don't think I learned that much (maybe that's just because it's an introductory course) but it was an easy class. Lectures came directly from the assigned readings and the midterm and final came straight from the lectures. Fairly easy A.

I thought this class was fairly easy...She does assign a ton of reading but its not hard...Her papers arent that bad just follow her instructions and you will fine...Exams come straight from the notes and are long...Don't miss class take good notes and you will get an A.

If you are a PSC major, you have to take this class. There is literally too much to be learned about the topic, so the class is always moving fast. As long as you read it should be a fairly easy and interesting class. If your not a PSC major, don't take this class unless you are really interested, so much excessive work.

Prof. Nanes is not a bad professor at all. I never read the text book accept when studying for the midterm and the final. She gives you detailed review sheets from the midterm and the final, and the paper is a book review. If you go to class and participate, no work is involved, and you'll get a good grade. Not an impossible A, I actually liked her

Fun class, nice prof. I would definitely make out with her.

If you have enough time to read pages and pages of essays every week, on top of on average 8 articles from ny times, and a chapter from the book roughly 50 pages EVERY WEEK then take her class.... extremely hard, tests are all essay and she grades it soley on information gathered from all the readings... hard hard hard

she's pretty good and i somewhat enjoyed her class but i wouldnt have taken it if it wasnt something i had to. she was really nice and her class wasnt hard just annoying.

Her class is really easy and she tries to keep up with current events. 3 easy 2-page papers and a 3-5 page final paper. midterm and final were multiple choice and a short essay. I might have opened the book twice the entire semester, and read maybe half of the articles she assigned. Definitely take her for PSC 002. Planning on taking her again.

One of the best teachers at Hofstra. Balanced accounts of the material. Makes the class very interesting. Strongly recommended.

Awesome! Just awesome. Only a few short papers plus a 5 page term paper. Only tests are midterm and final and are multiple choice with short essays. She thoroughly explains everything and keeps up to date with relevant events to discuss in class. I'm signing up for more of her classes for sure.

Professor Nanes definitely takes pride in her work. Her class has A LOT of reading, but it is all very informative. If you can tolerate reading, then this class will be very interesting to you. There were 3 short papers with choices, one long paper with choices and two exams. I felt she was a fair grader and that her class was worth taking.

One thing for sure is she knows what she's talking about. She's quite kind as long as you show some interest and is easily impressed if you know what you're talking about. Her papers can be killers, though, so you should definitely start ahead of time. Overall, she's a good teacher.

Nice teacher, I took her Israel and Palestine class which was not hard. Lot of reading from the textbook, and discussion. But class was not boring and she was not strict about attendance. Plus she's got a nice rack.

Nanes is a great professor. I learned a lot in this class. Her lectures and class discussion were always interesting. She did not grade that hard and all assignments were straight forward. There were 2 sets of discussion questions, one five page term paper, and a midterm and final. There is a lot of reading, but its not bad.

Great professor. You definitely need to read the text but her lectures are very helpful and she demands student participation, which I like. Uses current events to make sense of what the book says. I recommend her and the class if you're interested.

I took her for Comparative Politics. She is not an easy grader, nor are her multiple choice tests straightforward. But she is a helpful professor and if you do the reading and take a LOT of notes, you will get an A. She cares about participation and is really nice overall. I'm taking her again this semester for Politics of the Middle East.

Don't go into her class expecting to sleep through, or you'll be in for a rude awakening. You need to participate and read if you want to do well in her class. If you come to class prepared and ready to participate, you'll do great. Also, take complete advantage of the review sheets she hands out before tests.

A really wonderful professor. You must read the material, but tests are very fair and classes are interesting. Reading selections are great, and you learn a lot from them and from discussions/lectures/films.

Do your reading and pay attention in class, and you'll really be fine. She doesn't have patience for people who are disrespectful in class, but she encourages students to make up their own minds about important issues and tries to prompt good discussions. All exams are fair and based 100% on readings, which you go over in class.

YOU MUST READ THE TEXTBOOK, if you dont you will fail and she'll probably just kick you out of the class. She loves students that voice their opinion and she'll probably go easier on you during the quizzes because of it. Honestly only take the class if your majoring poli sci if you take it just for fun you'll probably regret it

Let me tell you what you need to know about Professor Nanes. She knows her stuff and what she is talking about. She has office hours and is more than willing to help you as long as you do your part. Strong advocate of mutual respect. No phones in class. NOT AN EASY COURSE! She will make you work for your grades. Do assignment early! Very nice prof.

She's great at leading class discussions and actually teaching, but she expects a lot of work. Assigns many multi-page papers (sometimes with difficult deadlines) and designs her exams to take up all the time available. But she's reasonable and respects her students.

Nanes is very nice and knows her stuff. There are a lot of readings for this class, but you will def learn a lot. I wasn't a fan of some of her assignments but they were doable. Read the textbook, start your papers early, and you'll be okay.

She's tough, makes you work and knows the subject.

Nanes is an amazing professor if you care about her class. She knows the subject extremely well and will work to help you understand. However she piles on the reading for each class paired with a quiz, but after taking a few courses with her the quizzes do help! She is slightly disorganized but you actually learn in her class. Plus she's super fun!

Professor Nanes is a great professor and I really learned a lot. The downside is the quantity of work assigned. There was 2 quizzes a week with a chapter reading in the textbook, a graphic novel, and another book which there are 4 3-4 page summaries and a final paper based on it, and 3 essay exams. The work is overwhelming not difficult.

This was an honors seminar so she said it was harder than what her normal classes are like but even then this was one of the best classes I've ever taken. She is very knowledgeable about politics specifically in the Middle East and really encourages learning not just regurgitation. There's a lot of reading but led to really interesting discussion.

Prof Nanes means well. She expects you to do the textbook reading, which is vital to class participation. She's not a tough grader, and she can have fun with the class if the class is like that (not shy, not rude). You shouldn't have your phone out and pay attention when she's talking. That's so basic, get over it. She wants students to participate
