One of the best teachers ever! Book is needed and used regularly. Interesting reading assignment for every class! Assistance is very helpful, very clear and easy to understand. Really teaches you to critically analyze writings. Exciting class discussions. Can't help but love the class. Not the class for the shy or those that hate reading.

Prof. Shippe was a very helpful teacher. Her lectures were interesting and they involved many class wide debates. She does make her students write many essays but they are relatively easy if you follow the rubric and MLA format. She's incredibly helpful when it comes to figuring out a research topic or needing help to find reliable information.

I can say that she is one of the best prof in NVCC. She always gave thughtful feedbacks when I submitted the essays, and she likes to help studetns. Although there are tons of quizes, it would not be that hard if you read the book (you need to bring your books every single days). You only need to write few essays, and one presentation. Easy A.

She makes English interesting and fun but she a really tough grader on essays unless you're a really good writer! Tries to help much as possible and really listens to what you have to say. Also there's a lot of reading in this class and you need to read or else you will be behind. She gives a couple quiz (sometimes a pop-quiz) on the readings.

Professor Shipe is a very sweet person and is there for you if you need the help. There is quite a bit of reading and quizzes, but it's not too hard. She also assigns a few papers that are worth a lot of points but the topics that she gives us are relevant and interesting topics. Overall, she is a good yet hard professor. You should take her.

Unlike others saying she's a tough grader, I disagree! This is a college course, what do you expect. I found her actually to be a very lenient grader for a college professor. If you TRY you'll do fine. Doesn't assign many essay which great! Gives smaller assignments; quizzes, group project, 2 short essays and a 6 page research paper at the end

Shipe is great! Very friendly and encourages discussions. Lectures follow the book ("open the book to page..."). Assigns papers (2-8 pages) and expects it to be finished within a week or two. Clear instructions/rubrics that focuses on material in the textbook. Quizzes given on readings (write-them-outs, not multiple choice). Not much else w/ her.

She is a good professor, not a tough grader. Easy A if you pay attention in class and do assignments. Attendance is mandatory. After the 5th absence she takes 5% of your overall grade for each day that you are asent. Assignments are not hard at all.

She is an amazing teacher. Assigns maybe 6 papers the whole semester, all quite easy but require actual preparation. She has 1on1 meetings with students for big papers which is beyond helpful. Grades papers easily with good feedback. Will reply to emails, loves to answer questions. My writing has improved with her. Plus she's pretty good looking.

You will def. write 6 papers. Our last paper was a research paper (6-8 pages). BE ON TIME to class! she is very strict about tardiness. You must attend every class, b/c she may have a quiz or a in-class assignment worth points; doesn't matter if you have a doctors note to excuse your absence, she will give you a zero. She is helpful w. papers tho!

Her expectations are high but clear and she explicitly outlines her criteria for all papers. If you have any questions she replies to emails very quickly so you're never left in the dark. The majority of class tends to be class discussions based on the readings, and she cares about participation, so make sure you do the readings so you can follow the discussion. She keeps Blackboard very up to date as well so you always know what to expect. She's extremely friendly and easy to approach. She enjoys and actively encourages unique and diverse interpretations of topics. One downside is that she doesn't like technology usage in her class so make sure you have a notebook on hand.

She is very nice and knowledgable. She gives essays all the time, but they're not very hard, and if you ask for help she will have no problem providing it. The in class discussions are awesome. You read a lot from the textbook a lot but just a few pages a night. As long as you keep up and put forward a good amount of work you will do great.

Professor Shipe's class is discussion-led. We often would spend the whole class passing ideas around and talking about heavy subjects that she mediated. She always updates Blackboard and grades everything within the week. She is understanding of her students and she is easy to get along with.

I am currently taking Professor Shipe for my Honors English 111 class. Class meets every Tuesday and Thursday. I had a chat with her and she is the nicest professor and probably person I've talked to. Participation is key in her class, especially asking questions and contributing to class discussions. So far (4th week) we've had 2 readings/1 essay.

Great Professor, makes classes very interesting. Not hard class at all. Just make sure you read all assigned readings and prepare for class. Papers are not hard at all. Easy class overall.

I took Professor Shipe for Honors ENG 111. She is a pretty amazing, caring, thoughtful professor. She has a lot of insight into everything she discusses. This class will honestly not disappoint you no matter what major you are in because there will be at least one discussion that will be in your field. Simply take her.

Theres easy HW, 2 exams, 2 papers and some extra credit but it shouldn't be that hard. Usually, it's the readings that take up a lot of time so you'd have to plan accordingly. Great late work policy too. Take her!

She's an awesome teacher. Respects everyone's different opinions and perspectives. But be sure to read the homework. She'll discuss the reading with questions so be sure to answer those or else she'll give a class a pop quiz.

I took online summer 8 weeks (yikes) because I am crazy. Its writing intensive. The mid-term was tough but overall good. essay questions off memory, no cheat sheets!

Take in 16-week if possible. I took summer 8 weeks and work load was unbearable. 2 exams + quizzes weekly + 4 or 5 writing assignments weekly. Study & read.

I enjoyed Professor Shipes class. Get ready to write a lot, though. We had an essay due every week for the first three weeks of class. Shes very approachable and gives clear expectations. She also encouraged a lot of discussions among the class. Overall great if you enjoy English and are willing to work for your grade.

I used to hate English and writing but after taking this class now I love it lol. She really cares about her students and makes sure that we get what she is saying. We are graded by a few things so keep the syllabus close. The final is literally the same as the review so study that paper and you'll be fine.

Professor Shipe is very nice and friendly, but there's just too many "tiny" grades that go into this class that don't make it worth it to take her. In the first few weeks of class we did an essay each week. There were readings assigned daily, only to be discussed two days later. This class isn't really flexible. No extra credits or drops.

The honors course was one of my favorite classes this year. Lots of group discussions and only a few big papers. Be ready to participate in discussions and analyze others' essays. Wish she had an honors 112 course because I would definitely take it!

Nice professor. Three 3-4 pages papers and one research paper which is 5-7 pages long. There areAttendance is taken into account, and since she does give handouts in class you should definitely show up and participate if you want to pass. It could be an easy A if you put in some efforts.

She was a really nice teacher and she lets you redo assignments for a better grade, which is why I give her a 5 rating, however the reading is wayyyy toooo much!! I'm literally bout to drop cause of how bad it is. If you are taking more than 4 classes I would not recommend this class, however if your're part time you should be okay, but Good Luck!!

I took prof Shipe's 8 week online course Eng 241 and it was not as hard as I expected. There is a lot of reading since it is an english course, however some of them are really interesting. There are 2 papers and 2 exams which are not that difficult if you do the assignments. She grades fast and gives good feedback. Overall great class!

She was super helpful when it came to assignments and gave good feedback on things you can fix. Attendance matters in her class and is used for grading and participation points. It's a lot of busy work but nothing is difficult.

Took this class in the summer, 6 weeks. A research paper/annotated bib and other grades, an ez final, a couple of essays/readings/responses, etc. Very doable. She's nice and very professional, though sometimes her political opinions show a bit. Friendly and rewards good effort.

Online class, it fairly straight forward. You know what she's grading and how, and there's a lot of interesting assignments. I will be taking her class for my next English credit.

Very straightforward professor. Exams must be passed but they are not complicated at all, easy to study for. Interesting reading assignments, there are quite a few I didn't even read but I just read summaries and still did well on assignments. Wrote lots of short papers (usually 250 words) and had two longer papers (2 pages long).

She is so nice and is willing to help you with whatever you need. She also gives a variety of homework so not one assignment will determine your grade.

This is my second class with her and I would take her again if I could. She is very kind and will never make you feel inferior for asking a question. She is very approachable and isn't a hard grader. If you can take her, you should. She makes you write about 3 papers with one group presentation. She responds quickly to any questions.

It was exciting learning about the various themes and lessons of American literature. For example, we learned about Transcendentalism. We also studied Poe, Thoreau, Emerson, Fuller, Whitman, and Franklin -- some of which may have been under that category. The course was organized well.

Professor Shipe is a solid choice. She is very knowledgeable, passionate, and caring towards students. She makes sure to give thoughtful and helpful feedback on anything you submit. I will warn you that there are quite a handful of assignments but they're mostly interesting.

If I could choose professor Shipe for ENG112 I would! highly recommend her, all the assignments are totally doable. She's also very understanding. There was a group projects and some essays. Personally, it was so easy to finish with an A. If you take her though, she can be a little picky when it comes to essays. Besides that, her feedback is great

Professor Shipe is understanding every student's situation; therefore, she gives acceptable extensions. Despite providing weekly assignments, they are doable and professor Shipe will give any help she can to ensure you complete the assignments. She grades a lot of assignments based on effort rather than quantity and gives good quality feedbacks!

She was great for 90% of the semester, for that last 10%... Buckle up, my friends. she's nice, good with late work, grading, easy assignments, etc but the final essay is extremely stressful and with that plus all your other classes is a struggle. Other than that I have no complaints. If not for the essay she'd get a 2 in difficulty and 5 stars

I failed the class, but it was not due to the teacher. I was easily able to reach out by email with a quick response. She was very understanding and flexible with deadlines and grading. Just make sure to reach out if you are struggling. She is a fantastic teacher and will try to help however she can.
