I already took financial accounting and trie to take it again with her just to boost my GPA.. ended up doing just about the same and worse, and took the class above. Probably the hardest class ive taken at the school, and this is an intro class. Not recommended unless you have a solid accounting background!
She knows her stuff and really puts you to the test. Some people complain that she's too hard or unfair but Intermediate needs to be hard. Added bonus - she's smoking hot - great legs.
Shes hard, but she is more than willing to help you. Intermediate is not supposed to be an easy class. Even if you fail her class you will still come out learning more than you ever thought. If you are an accounting major she really does provide a solid foundation. And she is passionate about what she is teaching so it keeps you interested.
Ok, last semester, there were a bunch of true comments about her- she must have complained, got them deleted and submitted new comments- she is the WORST teacher ever! Shes rude, hours of homework, worst and most unfair grader, if you are 1 second late to class your hw is a zero- absolutely terrible
She is the most condescending, rude, obnoxious teacher I have ever crossed in my schooling career. She has no patience and can make anyone no matter the question feel like they are so small. Unless you liked being put down, she is not the teacher for you.
She is not a very nice person. She is not a good teacher by any stretch of the imagination, not even sure why she still has a job. She likes to talk about herself and has quite a complex, when it comes to her authority in the classroom. She needs to deflate her head and realize she is no better than anyone else.
She is a good teacher. I have learned so much and had financial acct. cleared up to make sence. She gives a lot of homework, but it is necessary to help you understand the material. She is willing to give you help if you ask for it. I have really enjoyed her class!!
I truly think she is the rudest professor there is. Intermediate 1 is a prerequisit to 2 and if your grade depends on whether or not you get into another class, then her grading should be based on your intelligence, not techincalities such as if a comma is in the right spot. More than 75% of my class had to retake the class. STAY AWAY!
Rude as hell
I loved her. She was my favorite teacher ever. I thought I would hate accounting, but because of her, I'm an accounting major. She explains everything clearly, you just need to do the homework. She's very accessible and easy to talk to. She's very enthusiastic, and its catching.
Tate is the WORST professor UMass Lowell has to offer. She is extraordinarily hard, I spent 3+ hours per day on just her homework and she always marked down if the homework was written instead of typed, if it wasn't spaced properly, if you mixed up a word. If you were 1 minute late, homework was a 0. Tests are unreasonable, she is extremely rude.
Very strict and pours work on expecting students to self learn!!!!!
Horrible teacher. Think she knows everything. Don't take this class with her.
Shes tough, but honestly, people who outright fail her class are lazy. Yeah, she grades strictly on writing. You're in college. If you're too lazy/unintelligent to use semicolons properly and double space a paper you shouldn't be in college anyway.
absolutely terrible. i'm an engineer and would spend more time on her worthless homework, than a math class, and on top of that the homework is useless and it never helps you learn anything since it's all done on the computer. she is easily the most worthless professor i have EVER had.
Worst professor in the history of UML. Truly does not have any people skills and clearly does not know how to teach and interact with students. The University should ban her from teaching in the field. Cleary she has no idea to interpret what she learned to others. She should take lessons from Dr. Strickland!!!!
This is definitely a difficult and demand class but Prof. Tate is very helpful and she's available for help anytime. She goes out of her way to make sure students do well like holding review sessions out of class time. She is very enthusiastic about what she teaches and tries her best to make sure students understand the material.
She's a toughest teacher I'd ever have. Every student would spend 3+ hours to do her hw. U'd have to put all efforts on her class, otherwise U'd fail just like half of students in her class did. Whoever passed this class for the first time would be intelligent. U have at least know about the accting world before taking her class. Go away if u can!
Don't take her if you could. She's very helpful but she just makes all her assigments and exams hard for students. Her class is very time consuming. HW can't turn in late even 1 minute. Her exams are very torture even her hws. I'd not recommend her.
It is true that if your homework is one minute late she will not accept it. However, she is a great teacher! I took her in the summer and she was very engaging and you can tell she loves to teach. Go to every class and make sure you complete all homework assignments. Also, do the extra credit it's 40 pts added to your grade! Every little bit helps.
Do the Homework, make sure you're not a minute late, study 35 hrs a week including home work.
great teacher if you intend on doing an accounting major or are good at studying notes instead of the book i highly suggest taking her she does try to seem like a hard ass but just do teh assignments and youll be fine also she prepares you really well for the next classes in the accounting major take her for both financial and inter 1
Took her for intermediate accounting 1, tough class but the difficulty of the class is simply because accounting is not an easy subject. shes very strict but if you are an accounting major you will benefit from the amount of work this class demands. plus shes hot.
She is hard but fair. She is also SMOKING hot. Great legs!!
She is a hard teacher, but it is a hard profession, accounting teachers are preparing you for the real world as an accountant, and she does a good job at it; just like all the accounting professors at UML. plus she is a dime piece, very hot.
Very clear at explaining the material.Has certain particulars, only to help students be more professional.Somewhat picks favorites in class.Hates students who ask stupid/pointless questions.Exams are easy, as long as you spend time answering questions in the book over and over.... If accounting is your thing, take her.
Those who complained, you should do some self-evaluation first before criticizing prof. Tate. She's doing nothing wrong but preparing you for the real world. You think she's tough? Wait until you have a boss who has to pay you money to have the job done. You can't handle a piece of pressure from her, good luck out there making a living.
Tough class and she doesn't budge on her attendance policy, but if you do the work and study like hell you'll come out ok. Just remember to ask for help when you need it, she always went above and beyond to help me when i had trouble.
Just finished up Int. Acct. I and she is a good all around teacher but a stickler when it comes to grading. There is no way around it to succeed in this class you need to study. Also make sure you take advantage of all extra credit it will help come the end of the semester.
She is NOT EASY! But she is willing to help you. Take advantage of her office hours, and ALL EXTRA credit. If you fail, it's your own fault. She puts all the resources out there, it's your job to take advantage of it. as a junior in college you should get used to having to study anyways. All the people complaining need to GROW UP!
Honestly, everyone complaining about the difficulty of this class was probably lazy. Her exams are exactly like the class work and homework assigned. Do your work, go to class, and get help if you need it. You're in college now, it is required to put in some effort. If you think this class is impossible then I hope you're not an accounting major.
She is an asset for UML, she is an awesome professor! Love her. Best accounting professor. Materials are not easy, but it's not impossible as long as you do all the homework and actually pay attention in class. She's crystal clear with her teaching skill how can you complain about such a great professor? Exams are not tricky, overall, awesome prof.
Good luck. You're gonna need it.
Prof. Tate is really a wonderful professor! She is very clear in explaining things and is very willing to help. This is a hard class but as long as you do all the work assigned it is not that bad. I would love to take another one of her classes again.
Most awesome accounting professor at UML... but she needs to teach intermediate 2! After coming out of her class and take J. Lally is just simply torture. We need you for intermediate 2 professor Tate!!
She is clear, the class is very well organized but she is tough on you, but its tough love. She wants you to do well, take advantage of the extra credit and work your tail off and you will succeed. Plus, she is HOT!!!!!
The course is very rigorous but she is a great teacher. She's very straightforward and clear. She is always willing to help and gives you plenty of extra credit. DO THEM ASAP. Always practice hw for exams. Extremely accurate in grading. Everything is defined in black & white. So if your answer is wrong, well your wrong. Practice is key.
Best most difficult class to date... Got my A by a micro point. Learned a ton... and not because I memorized... Her tests make you have to know and understand the material.
Professor Tate is the best professor ever. She explains very well, and she is always well prepared for class.
This class is hard, but if you do the work you will do fine. She lays everything out for you, its just up to you to understand it. Her classes are very well organized. She tells you what will be on the exam so make sure you know the material inside and out. She wants everyone to do well and she wants everyone to actually learn accounting.
If you are unable to be 100% committed to this class, DON'T TAKE IT! I took Prof. Tate for Int. Acct.1 and it was extremely challenging. She's one of the best professors I've ever had and I learned so much. But I can't stress enough, you will not coast through in her class. She's highly committed to teaching and she expects highly committed students to learning. If you study hard and want to learn, you'll do fine in her class.
Hardest class in my college life.I can't stress it enough u must work hard 2 earn ur grade. She is fair in her grading and everything is well spelled out.No surprises in ur final grade. She tells u what 2 study 4 the exams. Go 2 her office if u need help.Practice the hw and u will do fine on the exam. That is what I did 2 get an A- in the class.
This is one of the best professors I have ever had. She gives you everything you need to know in her notes in class. I never used my textbook except to look at homework questions but used my notes to answer them. This class is an easy A if you just put in 2 or 3 hours a week outside of class for homework and put in 6-10 hours for studying for tests
When you finish this class you will be smarter and more confident than when you walked in.
You MUST study a lot for her class but she is great at going over everything. She gives you notes at the beginning of the semester to guide you through the course. I barely used my book. By far, the best prof. I have had at UML.
Shes a great prof. get ready to work though. i breezed through fresh/soph year with work being easy. reality check with this. multiple hw assignments every night, she doesnt trick you on exams, straight forward. one of the best UML has to offer. she has no remorse if you dont wanna put in effort.
She tells you the rules from Day One, and she means it so follow the syllabus! If you want to learn, she will be there to help you all the way. Her homework really helps you learn, and tests had no surprises. The students I knew who had trouble usually tried to get around her standards or else wanted to be "spoon fed."
One of the best professors I've ever had. The material is very tough but the structure of the class lends itself to mastery if you're willing to put in the time.
This class Is tough and you won't pass unless you put the time in. Hands down the best teacher at UML. She's a very funny teacher and makes accounting interesting, which can be very hard. If you want to do good on her tests practice the Wiley hw Assignments until you can memorize them. You get the grade you deserve.
Hard class, great teacher
This class is a TON of work and she even tells you that in the beginning. The material gets harder as the class progresses so make sure you do well on the first 2 exams because the 3rd one is very difficult. Take advantage of all the extra credit opportunities she gives, it will help you in the end significantly.
Pay attention in class or you won't pass. Teacher is very clear and if you don't understand anything she will either help you individually or help you on the exam review, which is out of class time. Make sure you do good on the first two-three exams. If you don't plan on putting in the time in class you won't pass. Do all extra credit it adds up.
She was one of the best teachers I have ever had, she is very tough in she gives a lot of work and demands a high level of preparedness but will always help you no matter what whether in or outside of class. Do NOT look up any answers to written homework online she will find out and kick you out of the class.
I think Professor Tate is extremely fair, even though she can come off as being tough. She does not budge on policies, which she lays out on day one. She does a great job at explaining concepts, and is invested in student success. However, you still need to know the material front and back to do well. This is a course you truly earn your grade in.
Very tough class however she makes it tough in order to help prepare you for the real world. She gives plenty of extra credit and encourages students to do good. I would highly recommend her to any accounting student, however if you aren't an accounting major do not take.
Professor Tate, although condescending as can be at times, is a good professor. It's a tough course that you have to put in a lot of work for but the material is straightforward and she doesn't throw any curveballs on exams. Her lectures help a lot if you pay attention and she practically writes your notes for you.
Very hard and tough class. Be ready to study hard.
Professor Tate is an incredible teacher. She really cares and her lectures are amazing. Missing classes every now and then is okay, but if you skip too many classes you miss her relating of the material and have to teach yourself. Pick well in your group project (she grades tough) and she is always available for extra help.
She'll be honest when the class starts that this is going to be hard and it will be, but she gives plenty of extra credit and easy chances to make up points to ensure that you get the grade that you want if your not a great tester.
One of the best professors I've had. Will work with you if you cannot make office hours. Works on a point system; you need 730 out of 1000 to pass. She gives extra credit opportunities though.
THE BEST ACCT prof I've had thus far! This Prof knows her stuff and knows how to teach well. Tons of extra credit opportunities so take advantage, they weight heavily in the end. Great lectures. Met w her outside of class and was truly helpful, honest and genuinely invested in her students success. *Follow* her rules & you should have no problem!
It's a tough class, but she'l put in the time if you do. She wants to see everyone be successful, but you've really got to develop a good work ethic. She makes the class engaging and encourages you to participate in the lectures. Lots of extra credit. Be SURE to study from the notes you take in class! Also, lots of puns.
She was such a bad professor... The type that expects you to know everything and teaches very little. Group work is ridiculously harder than the homework. The notes from class are trash because the format on the tests are different. All you can really do for that class is pray for a 74 average. I know several people in my course that had to retake.
Rude woman. Homework/class work does not resemble exams. Good luck.
Great teacher! Can be a little harsh one on one, but if you work hard she recognizes it. As an upper level accounting course, the level of work is significantly higher, but the expectations are clear and there are opportunities for extra credit. Tests definiely follow the format of the class notes, so review those carefully.
Professor Tate is a knowledgeable professor. She is a tough grader but she wants you to understand the material. I would definitely take another class with her. the key in her class is to practice what she says, and participate and you should be fine.
Friendly, very up-beat, lectures were entertaining. Quick to respond to emails. Would definitely take her classes again. Grading was more than fair.
Professor Tate is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She genuinely cares about her students. Her assignments are thought-provoking and interesting. You need to really study and do the work and you will be rewarded with a good grade. If you are not interested in studying then do not take her class. She is an excellent instructor.
She is tough. Not because she challenges you, but because she doesn't teach you anything. Goes over common sense items instead of actually teaching you how to do problems. Youll have to attend many events for credit and teach yourself the material. Tests dont mirror the reading, hw, online supplements, or what she actually teaches. Good luck.
Professor Tate is a hard professor, but a great one. She tells you from the first class that you need to work for your grade. I have never studied so hard for one class before. There is extra credit available and you should take every advantage of it. Exams are hard, and majority of students do not do well. Put the effort in, this class isn't easy!
She is tough. You need to do everything by yourself. She is not going to help you but criticizing your attitude. She seems she doesn't care about her students.
Yes it is a hard class and no I didn't get the grade I wanted, but she cares so much about her students learning! She gives extra credit and always makes herself available for help. Yes you put a lot of work into it but if you are concentrating in accounting she is just preparing you well.
If you give the effort you will get a good grade. This is a class you can't fall behind in. Prof Tate is tough but she is fair.
Professor Tate is a great prof. You're required to read the chapter and do the homework BEFORE coming to class. This will adequately prep you for her lectures. If not, you will not get anything out of it. You'll need 20-25 hours of "QUALITY" study and homework time, along with time to work on your group and individual project. It only gets tougher.
The class itself was tough, but Prof. Tate is one of the best professors. She knows her materials and accessible outside of class. The class itself is A LOT OF WORK. Assignments, homework, group projects are due at every class.
one of the worst teachers I have had very demeaning.
I thought she was an incredible professor. She will move quickly through material in class but is more than happy to sit down with you during office hours. You MUST practice the material regularly (daily if possible) in order to succeed. A lot of material is covered, so ask questions & participate in class. Be sure to read and follow the syllabus.
Professor Tate, its obvious that youre the one writing the good reviews. Please stop. Students: look at the poor or average reviews to get a proper assessment of her teaching and courses.
She is the rudest professor on campus. If you were seconds late to class, homework was a 0. No sympathy towards students. She does nothing to help them succeed. Do not take.
She's very rude and disrespectful.
Completely unreasonable. She will yell at you in front of class if you ask a question. Inter. Acct is doable, but the professor is 100x harder than subject. Its a relief that she is leaving. She does not care about her students. She knows her stuff, but is hard to work w/ as a person. I do not recommend. 4exams, 7projects, thousands of hws
The teacher knows the material well, but unfortunately she is still a terrible person and professor. The most intelligent kids get a B at most. You will study over 25hrs weekly and she will end up giving an exam which wont allow you to finish in 80mins. You cant win with her no matter how hard you study. You will feel like the dummest student.
She talks a lot about putting in the effort, but doesnt understand how hard students study and and still fail her class. She enjoys making student fail because Accounting is something shes good at and she likes to prove to student that they cant level up to her. Its sad but you will understand when you take her. She is unreasonable.
The amount of work she assigns is unreasonable and the school does nothing. Everyone, including teachers, are afraid of her. Tate enjoys being despised, bc she feels it makes her a lone wolf, but truth is she hides behind her Acct degree and makes every person feel less of themselves even though they are giving their all, just so she can feel good.
Professor Tate doesn't care to answer student questions, if she does(90% chance her answer is a question) Expects non native English speakers to know exactly what she means and then gets upset at them for not understanding her answer. Creates a hostile and uncomfortable learning environment. Makes you use an in class work packet like a 8 year old.
I felt like the whole semester whenever I took a quiz or test everything I studied didnt show up on the test. I studied for 2-3 week every day for the final and bombed. The material is already hard enough. But its even harder when the professor doesnt care if you fail.
Really amazing professor, giving the best lecture I've ever had. She was so helpful that I almost give her a non-negative rating. (-5 if possible)
I believe this class is a bit of a weed out course for students not cut out for accounting, as evidenced by the high fail rate. Prof Tate is very fair (and a bit intimidating) and doesn't make exceptions to her rules, which she makes clear on the first day. She teaches new material very well but you still have to put in time to learn everything.
get ready to work, I study my butt off and didn't see the result. for sure a weed-out class, I'm glad I never have to take this class again... if u not ready to put the work in, u going to fail, the workload is crazy...
Took Prof. Tate's class. Compared to my Inter Acctg. II professor who is the worst, she is the best. Honest opinion, you get every penny you pay for with Prof. Tate. Work hard and do all HW for ext. credit - you will LEARN and do well. The rest of the online profs. for online acctg. cert. are rated aweful, look elsewhere or take in person classes.
I'd give Prof Tate a 10! She has a passion for accountancy and students, and really knows her stuff. Intermediate 1 is a lot of hard work, but she knows the formula for success if that's your chosen career. Clear expectations and grading, goes deep into topics, and open to questions and feedback. A delightful and hidden asset for Massachusetts.
The worst professor EVER. She does know her material really well but she doesn't understand that a lot of students needed more support. She expects you to know the materials before she even teaches, and she only goes over the topic once. Heavy group work. During office hours, she make me feel ashamed because of the course. She is really rude.
Stay away! You'll be wasting ur time & $$$. Tate loves to demean, drown u in work & unfair grading because she actually gets a thrill from it. Tate forgets that she's the service provider & we are the customer. So much to say & not enough room. Seriously she will be the biggest mistake of ur college career. Horrific! U will regret it! Promise u!
Be prepared to work hard because this is a class where you will truly earn your grade. Plenty of chances to do well but you definitely need to have some kind of passion for accounting to get through the readings, projects, and homework assignments.
I didn't find the class hard, but a lot of people do. She expects a lot from you and doesn't accept late work. She taught material before giving hw on it, but that's my only complaint. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. Go to class & build a network with other accounting students. RL-world project. Moderate workload but it's spaced out so it's not a lot at once.
Avoid at all cost or else you'll be drowning with her. She is a narcissist that thinks everyone is there to be a CPA so she expects that level of work when the majority of the people don't want to. Very strict on her format and when you think you did good, you did terrible. Please take another professor for any accounting classes
Walk away!! She have high expectation of her students as though they are going towards a CPA. The materials are heavy and so are her Tests and Quiz's. Homework are due twice a week (INSANE!). Like many other raters, you will be drowning in all of her workload. The course is like a manager that you'll just hate!!
One of the best professors I've ever had. You will work harder than hard in this course, and she will put you on the spot every chance she gets Some of her grading practices i did not agree with, just know if she ask for cell references in Excel she means absolute cell reference, not cell references. big on taking off point for spelling, ect.
Professor Tate is by far the best professor I have ever had! People say that she's a bad professor, but in my opinion she is amazing at explaining the material and its all on you to put in the work to understand the material and do well in the class. She is very accessible outside of class and really wants you to do well. Plus, she baked for us!
Had to withdrawal. Unreasonable assignments, quizzes, exams and mountains of homework. Book was vague, professor challenges difficult subject matter before it is taught and information not found in the book. Way too much time spent on trying to figure out answers instead of being taught. Waste of money spent during tough economic times.
Professor Tate makes a lot of degrading comments. Her grading expectations is unrealistic. If you can find another professor who is willing to accommodate for student needs and concerns, please do so.
Way too much work. Very nit picky about stuff that is not important.
Lots of work with Cases, Group work, HW, exams, quizzes but due dates are always clear. The material can get pretty boring. Learning about what organizations create and enforce which rules within the world on audit and cases about implementing internal controls on a company, etc. It's not the most interesting but Tate is a good teacher/lecturer.
DO NOT take her class if you are looking to cruise through and barely pass. You will fail. Professor Tate is a great professor. She will teach you, and she knows what she's doing and she will tell you how it is. She teaches in a great way if you listen. She's ready to help you pass the course, but only if YOU want to pass the course.
The IAP assignments alone make up 25% of your grade which is quite ridiculous considering that these are just a complete afterthought for professor Tate. There will be zero mention or review of them in class. You buy the workbook online and are left to fend for yourself on every assignment. Basically read the workbook and spend hours working it out
I am an A/B student in every class I've ever taken in college. This class will likely be my first C and I can't blame it on not trying. I spent many hours doing hw's in this class and studying. Problem is, the topics are very challenging and not clear cut. Professor is also a very tough grader. I don't think it needs to be this difficult of a class
Extremely time consuming, cases are extremely hard, and teacher provides no guidance on them. Basically, learn everything yourself, and spend 20 hours reading every week. Extremely strict and subjective grader so she will take points off on things she doesn't like. Wastes time with slides in class instead of guiding students through cases. Have fun
Just don't , there are 4 different ways to submit your assignments you have to purchase 3 different softwares and also have to print and write homework, which is just insane. Stay away wasted too much money on buying different softwares.
I am currently in the lab for CFR1. She degraded students so much that I and other students felt like we didn't do well enough after receiving an A and higher on the exam. She is not encouraging whatsoever, and the way she speaks to students is not appropriate. It is not possible to avoid her, but just be prepared to reconsider studying acct at UML
If I could give a 0 I would. So much work you will dedicate your entire 3 months to this class and never have time for anything else. Multiple cases a week with homework and extra videos, it's completely unethical how much work she has you do. Non-constructive feedback with just "?" and not telling you why you got things wrong, DONT TAKE!
She made me cry(like actually started sobbing) in her office lol
Prepare yourself mentally for this class. There is a lot of content, and it is easy to fall behind. The cases are difficult, but Professor Tate gives great hints. There is a decent amount of extra credit, and the class is not test heavy. I can tell this class has improved from previous semesters, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.
Lot of homework, get ready to read and write. This class is mandatory for all accounting majors. Will def prepare you for a career in auditing.
Be prepared for a heavy workload and challenging content in this class. While Professor Tate provides helpful hints, the cases can be tricky. Utilize Unstuck ai and other study resources to stay on top of the material.
Lots of homework is an understatement. She also grades VERY tough on audit cases. Overall, she cares A TON. I feel like that would be an understatement too. She tried to prepare you as much as possible. She may not be easy, but I guess that is what's called “tough love”. One of the accounting goats.
Professor Tate is a great professor with great lectures. Audit is difficult imo since it has a lot of terms and definitions. If you're looking for an A you need to do the extra credit since the exams are pretty hard. Audit cases can be very tricky - I reccomend reaching out to her and asking for help. There's a lot of work - priortize this course.
