The teacher is very young and immature. He does not seem to have a professional teacher look and demeanor. If you want a class where the teacher offers nothing outside the textbook, then this is a good class. The book is expensive and not worth it. The teacher does not have any interesting class activities, all lecture based.
He awesome. He's very clear and to the point and if you don't understand he'll explain it until you do. He made a hard class easy.
great teacher, very interesting, very clear. Going to class helps you understand material. Howver, its not necessary to go, if you read the text book, take good notes and study!
Great teacher. highly recommend him because: Helpful. Makes Biological Psychology interesting! Good humor! Gives answers to essay questions. Ensures that you get at LEAST a B in the class. Class outline: 3 exams (worth 33% each). Plus: TA gives review study sessions prior to exam.
He's an amazing teacher. Very interesting, and extremely helpful. He always makes sure his students understand the material. His exams are fair and if you work hard and read the text and power point notes you will do good. He made a hard class, more interesting.
Dr. Gaskin is a good teacher and a nice guy. Conveys passion to the students. Exams are only hard if you don't study. Only really hard part are the fill in the blanks on the tests. Gives in advance what figures to know for the tests. I would take him again.
He's a pretty funny guy but he treats every class like a review session, which is difficult for students who have never a class like this before. The first exam was easy, second was hard, even though he said they would be the same level of difficulty.
His lectures were very entertaining. The exam are based on the textbook, but it helps to go to classes. Some of the questions in exam 2 were too difficult, but he took it into consideration and was forgiving when marking it. The semester flew by. Recommended.
This teacher was very good.just finished the semester and i definitely suggest taking him. exam 1 was good, exam 2 was a bit harder (expected) but exam 3 was in the middle. i suggest doing the practice questions online. also read the book. and GO TO HIM FOR HELP! hes excellent and will try to help you :) overall great teacher.
Adore him! Cute, funny, outgoing, smart, straightforward... Best teacher EVER. His exams are a dream.
Follows the book to the T, knows his stuff inside out, covers so much information per lecture but does it so well you don't realize the time go by. Study EVERYTHING he cover in his notes, get the finer details from the book, & you'll get an A.
Awesome prof, without a doubt. Problem is, his exams are sometimes too easy. Why's this a problem? Because an A+ means nothing if the clas average is A- or A. Not a big deal for people only looking to get a BA/BSc, but if you want to attend grad school...
Interesting course material, and prof has a lot to add. Multiple choice questions can be a bit tricky. He's a tough marker when it comes to essay questions, make sure to be very detailed. Sensitive people be wary, I thought he was hilarious but he does have a sharp wit. Best part? He is yummy-licious! Karl Kani never looked so good!
Definetly not what i was excepting. Rude teacher, do not take this class if you have any other option.
A nice guy... but his concept of "Lifespan" is: "babies, babies, babies, babies, then you're a teenager and then you die." We only got through HALF of the material in the syllabus. I liked him as a person, but he's not very well structured as a professor. And he pulls random details from the book.
interesting subject but very difficult when it comes to the tests, really read chapters over multiple times. teacher can be rude, but overall has good information.
Great, super enthusiastic prof. Interesting content. Clear, animated lecturer. Definitely not boring. Very laid-back and easygoing. Tests are not easy, but all multiple choice. No assignments. Great textbook.
Teacher is passionate and dynamic. What I appreciated most was the use of objects in class to explain things that might seem difficult. I loved the class! It might not be the easiest class but it's definitely the most interesting!
The most interesting class I have ever took in my life! I Learned so much about the brain, life, the human body... Great Teacher! Extremely understanding. Funny. Exams are all multiple choice, not easy but not impossible. Need to study the TEXTBOOK!
Interesting lectures but exams are challenging! Definately not an easy class!
The best professor I've had. Very passionate about the subject, so he keeps class fun and interesting. Explanations always clear, and he will answer questions. Exams are fair. Study and you'll do well. He's also open to alternate answers on exams, he sometimes gives extra marks if you ask.
Didn't know much. Alot of questions he didn't have answers to. Seems bored, annoyed most lectures. Not an interesting class or teacher
he's such a passionate teacher who will find many different ways of explaining the material to make sure that everyone understands correctly. he makes dumb jokes but they're cute haha excellent teacher, highly recommend!
Great teacher. I previously had a bad grade from Jim Pfaus' PSYC355. I retook it with him: everything became so clear and more importantly he made it very interesting. He answers questions, explains very well. Make interesting links to help you get interested and understand. Read the book, follow his ppt, test yourself and you'll be good.
His lectures are clearly structured and he makes the subject matter easy by breaking it down. His exams are fair. His energy is sick, he acts out a lot (in another life he was a drama teacher). I would recommend him highly, and take his classes again.
He is funny, and seems very passionate about the subject. Only downfall is that his exams tend to be specific, so read the textbook and take some notes.
I tried liking this guy.I have to admit, in class he is great, funny but goes off topic too much with class discussion. His lectures nor slides do NOT match up with the exams. Everything is from the textbook. You have to teach yourself. Outside of class, very lazy. replies emails (if at all) with one word, literally. He is never at his office hours
-takes forever to grade exams -always shows up 5-10 minutes late -uses 23 of class time to talk about nonsense, and then blasts through the remaining 30 slides in the 15 minutes left. -never available during office hours; never answers emails In summary, don't bother going to class, don't bother printing the slides either, but READ THE BOOK.
I was a bit stressed out when I read the reviews on here about this teacher. The tests are way easier than most people tend to say on this site. You do need to read the textbook though, it is way more useful than the lecture slides. Fun lectures overall.
Not conventional but makes class interesting. Goes off topic but adds to your understanding if you studied. Keeps you awake with his energy especially good for evening class. Make sure you read. Many things not talked about in class on the tests.
Liked him a lot. I have had him for other classes (e.g.321). He shows a lot of passion. Read the book but come to class to get into the subject. Take him. Make sure to know the book for the exams. All questions come straight from it.
Really nice prof who knows his stuff and sprinkles a heavy subject with humour and interesting info. Some people might not like that he goes off on a tangent, but frankly I appreciate a prof who takes students' questions seriously and creates a "discussion" atmosphere, where people feel free to be curious and thus leave the classroom enriched.
Overall good and funny lectures but it is true that he teaches classes more like a review, everything is in the book though so no worries. Midterms are very very easy except for a few odd questions you would never expect (eg. biographical stuff). Finals are cumulative and harder than midterms so be prepared for that. Read the book and you're good!
Looking at previous reviews lead to decent expectations and I was pretty unimpressed? He sort of tries to make the class engaging but there's only so much you can do with dry material. Midterm and final Qs are from textbook material. He didn't actually seem like he cared about anyone's success in the class, didn't respond to emails, no office hours
GREAT ! Really good teacher. Knows and puts a lot of passion into the subject. He can also be very funny. Makes the class go by fast which is great for a late class. Neuroscience is truly his best. Take him. Exams are easy as long as you keep up.
Great teacher. Makes class super interesting. Test Multiple choice are tricky and specific details from the book so make sure to read
Fun and funny. Gives a lot of examples and anecdotes which is good if you're interested in the subject. Exams are MC with 1 essaylong answer. His slides are pretty good but make sure to read the book cause he asks for specifics.
Study, go to class and you can get a great mark in any of his courses. Also, he's hilarious and makes the class fun. He gives great advice on what will be on his exams.
Another great prof. He is makes his lecture interesting and fun to learn. He is there for you if you have any questions or problems. His exams are really fair. If you attend class and use the book as a reference tool, you will do fine.
I would definitely not take this professor again. I am a good student and I was getting As until I took this course. Lectures only skim the surface of the material, slides don't help and he's very dettached. Acknowledges that the topic (Learning) is very complex, but makes exams very tricky even for someone who studies.
He's the best. TAKE HIM AT ALL COSTS. He explains the material very clearly, and always give real in-life examples so that we can better understand. Many students were recommending him to me and I ended up taking 2 courses with him and enrolled in a third one. Hurry up for registration as his class close fast. Fair grader, but study well.
Took him a couple of times, don't know if I would again. Lectures are pretty boring and not mandatory, exams somewhat random, not a hard class but not an easy class either
Took him for Psyc 351. He his amazing. Also had him for Psyc 333. He was amazing in that. This guy knows what he is talking about. The material is difficult and the book a killer. But he gives lots of example and asks for examples of the concepts on the exams. So think of real life examples of everything to use it on tests. He gives two midterms.
Terrible teacher!!! His slides are so brief and unhelpful. You're better off just studying directly from the textbook. He never responds to e-mails and does not offer any office hours. He shows total disinterest in helping his students, and he explains the material way too fast. I got the worst grade I've ever gotten in university because of him.
Excellent overall. But it depends on the course 333, 355 and 351 is amazing . Had him for a few. he explains really well and gives lots of examples. He is also very passionate. I would definitely take him again.
Funny guy. Keeps you entertained. Exams are like any other psyc. course: mostly stupid multiple choice questions and a few short answers.
The overall class was pretty fun, light, and easy. He is very enthusiastic and gives lots of examples. Textbook reading I would highly suggest (and I'm never one to read). The only downside was that he would say to omit certain sections, but then put them on the exam. However if you bring it to his attention he will announce that it wont count
really great teacher but he is a bit struck up when going for advice. final is harder then the midterm
Excellent prof, I've had him for a few classes and would take him again! His lectures are interesting and insightful, he is up to date and knowledgeable. Reading the book is a must.
Love love love this prof! I took 3 classes with him and would take care 15 more. Attend class (even though participation is not required) and read the book, and you'll do great.
He's an amazing teacher, very loud and interesting. His slides are great, I also had him for psych 310. His exams are easy, final is a bit tougher, but if you pay attention and study well, you got this!
WORST TEACHER I EVER HAD AT CONCORDIA. DOESNT TEACH, SHOWS UP LATE, GRADES EXAM LATE. I don't usually complain about teachers but man this guy really pushed it. Terrible terrible terrible
Love this teacher. Just awesome. Lots of real life examples. Take him for 333 for sure.
I really enjoyed taking his class. His exams are straight forward, easy to pass if you read the textbook. His slides are based on the textbook so it's really easy doing notes and if you miss a class, it's okay, cause you can catch up in no time. I'd take him again. Midterm is split into two, and a final, that's it.
Fun and clear lecturer with okay ppts. However, evaluation comes from 30% MT, 30% conference, and 40% final. MT was fair but the final was very long and tricky. I recommend reading the textbook chapters in detail and memorize; you will get an A. The TAs grade conference assignments harshly and they require a lot of individual and team work!
I loved Professor Gaskin. Although his lectures weren't super clear, he was always willing to answer questions and the textbook was easy to follow. We were graded on the midterm, the lab component, the final exam, and participation. He gave everyone 5% for participation and even added 5 extra marks to everyone's final. I recommend him.
Really chill teacher. You don't have to go to class because his lectures are basically his slides which are directly from the textbook. First exam is easy, second a bit harder and final also a bit harder but nothing to freak out about.
Dr Gaskin is an amazing prof. Lectures are fun and go by fast. Lots of real life examples to make you better understand. He's really passionate about the material especially Learning and Neuro.
Best professor for instilling a sense of love, passion and inspiration in me, and truly making my university experience worthwhile and for being the best professors I've ever had.
Passionate; engaging teaching style; enjoyed a topic I thought I was going to hate. 3 exams, no assignments, which is a fair structure. Tests were challenging but fair and solid study will result in a good grade. Content fascinating, especially his own chapters.
Super straight forward, read textbook and look over slides and get an A
I really loved professor Gaskin. He is hilarious and the class material is interesting. The exams were not tough at all. Easy A.
Great Class! Lots of real life examples. Loving the class but the textbook is not so good.
Hes kinda lost/disorganized. Tests are easy: MC and short answer. Not strict on short answers at all. He asks for examples and gives lots in class. I found it best to study from the textbook because his slides were just half sentences copy pasted from the book and made no sense out of context.
Good teacher, but also interrupts students when they are asking questions, never lets them finish.
I took two summer classes with him, he is hilarious which make the class fun to attend to, his pace is good not too fast not too slow. All multiple choice exam
Like this teacher a lot. Knows how to give good everyday life examples for learning. Exams are hard. The book is though. But if you get the concepts you will do well on the short-answer questions. Also if you remember and take note of the examples. The course is disorganized at times but super interesting and he is an overall really good teacher.
Arrives late to every single class and appears like a laid-back dude, but then hist you with HARD exams. Ugh, hate that. His MC questions are so confusing and can be interpreted multiple ways. He even admitted that in class. Basically, read, read, and read the book.
I've taken multiple biology courses in the past. I even took this exact class with him at Dawson, but nothing could have prepared me for the unorganized mess I would have to deal with all semester. The course material itself is dense and difficult to understand, and his useless rambles and teaching style made things significantly worse. DO NOT TAKE
Took learning with him. If you can get passed the disorganization sometimes, this teacher knows his stuff when it comes to learning and also neuroscience (psyc 355). Take him if you want to understand behavior. The textbook is a little heavy though and exams are hard. But he gives good examples to compensate the dry learning textbook.
Wow! Now I know why I act the way I do. Apply the principles used in this course in everyday life and you will understand everything. Definitely take this class and stick to it. He very often relates the experiments described in the book to real life. But I do agree that he seems a bit disorganized but the actual classes compensate.
Dr. Gaskin is great neuroscience teacher. Goes far beyond just the textbook in class discussion. Exams are graded fairly and based on the text. Multipe choice + essay. I would definitely take him.
Professor gaskin is a great teacher. The classes are interesting and engaging. The exams are fair but can be tricky. Take his classes and you will understand and do well.
Great teacher. Especially for 355. the great thing about his class is that here are two midterms. So you can make up for a bad grade. Final is cummulative though. Definitely take him.
I had him for PSYC355 as well. He is engaging, funny, makes material interesting, explanations are clear and he will answer all of your questions nicely. Attendance is not mandatory, HOWEVER, he does not put ALL of his material on his PPTs. You can skip a few days but overall attendance is still very important.
He is a good and funny teacher, makes class interesting. If you miss classes it is fine as long as you catch up with the textbook because he tends to just copy paste from the textbook. However, his english is not great and I ran into trouble with his multiple choices more than once because his wording was bad.
He's funny in class but he does not care about students. Never answers any emails. Multiple choice questions are worded terribly and super ambiguous, it makes it extremely difficult to understand. Incomplete slides. You MUST memorize the textbook. Even then, the tests are still challenging. Also, he was not accommodating during COVID-19 pandemic.
Awesome professor, have taken him for two classes and did really well in both. Very accommodating and considerate. Would recommend taking any classes with him!
Gaskin is a gem. He does his best to make class interesting and keeps the class stimulated with a few jokes and personal anecdotes here and there (always helps me remember the concepts he connects them to) he'll explain something to you 100x until you understand it. PPTs are pretty empty but he fills them in verbally while lecturing pretty clearly
Gaskin is a super personable dude. He obviously loves to teach, although his lectures can sometimes be content heavy. He does add in a few funny stories in there! The tests are VERY reading heavy and I had trouble on the 1st midterm- the MC are worded pretty weirdly! He has been super straightforward over email about COVID. Overall solid teacher!!
Really inspiring. The powerpoint are incomplete but you can find all the information you need by attending class and reading the textbook (the powerpoint are used as aids instead of being the lecture itself) Gaskin is incredibly engaging and caring. He has been extremely accommodating with COVID: giving us shorter exams with easier questions.
He tries as much as possible to make the lectures interesting, and I really found him and the material quite engaging! He's nice, and definitely approachable. He's been as accommodating as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic. His slides are good, but for an A+, you have to read the textbook!
LOVE Gaskin. Super chill, funny, great analogies, tries 2 make dry material interesting & ALWAYS includes the students in lectures. He's honestly hilarious & always shows up to class with nothing with him as if he's walking about his house LOL. He's so laid back, I love it. Also, great during COVID-19; uploaded vids quickly & had no probs with him
Ive taken several classes with him, excellent teacher, up to date information and fair exams, would definitely recommend. One of the best professors Ive taken at Concordia.
I have taken this professor for 3 different classes, he is a legend. He explains well through analogies and makes class enjoyable. If you read the textbook ur almost guaranteed an A+. I have 3 A+ for 3 classes that I took with him. WOULD DEFS TAKE AGAIN
He's funny, relates the heavy text to real life with relatable examples. Tests are tough, but if you listen closely to the lectures, take notes, and read the text, you will do fine. Don't expect to get an A without working hard for it. He moved to recorded video instruction and even made our final open book once he received feedback from students.
I took him for PSYC 305 and I liked him! He's hilarious and makes lectures fly by. I find his PowerPoints enough but reading the textbook won't hurt. His tests were very very fair and he does want you to succeed! I recommend
I love this teacher. He's makes his classes interesting. I had him for winter 2020 in Psyc351. Liked him so much and now I have a summer class with him for PSYC333 and I'm trying to get into his class for PSYC355 in fall 2020 lol. (Problem with concodia enrollment to the class for me). LOVE his way of teaching, he explains very well!
He's an amazing teacher!!!
Today i got over with my midterm, i don't know what grade i will get, but take my advice, don't choose him for online classes. He just made us watch prerecorded lectures and in comparison to my 333 and 340 profs gave twice the amount of questions in the midterm within the same time. He doesn't understand, students aren't responsible for the pandemic
Im taking his course during the pandemic and would not recommend taking him while we're still online. Other teachers have made lots of accommodations bc of covid, but not him. His prerecorded lectures are extremely long & exams weigh too much so you can fail easily. We also only met twice. Im taking 5 courses & doing good in all of them except his.
I have taken Prof Gaskin several times. I really like this prof. But online is not the same as in person. I like the fact that the classes are prerecorded and that you can take them anytime. Exam are very tight and you are pressed for time. Be ready with your notes for the open book exams.
Dr. Gaskin is VERY disorganised. His slides are all over the place, and he provides little direction for his assignments. Maybe it's pandemic-related, but I'm unimpressed.
I have never felt so lost in a class, the lectures are all over the place, the communication with the students is impaired. I do not understand why can't students have access to live zoom sessions for every class so that they can clarify their doubts on the spot and then have recorded lectures uploaded, just like other professors are doing it.
Great online format. I love taking the class whenever I want. I like the format but the assignment is hard and the exams difficult but I manage to do well by keeping up. I would take him again. I don't care much for live classes.
Dr. Gaskin is a very good teacher. Had for 2 classes. But we would benefit from live classes so that he can answer questions immediately. He gives only two exams so you can't mess up on one. The assignment is not that hard if you go back and review the recorded lectures. What I liked is that he didn't resist in giving an extension so accomodated.
Professor Gaskin is trying his best with the new online format. With this being said, he had very little presence throughout the semester. We had two examinations and one assignment, if you fail one of these, it will be very difficult to recover. His online lectures are instructive. The textbook can be heavy and difficult to comprehend.
I just finished this class during the pandemic. Dr. Gaskin's course is asynchronous which I found great. This course has lots of graphs and theory but they were all clearly explained in the lectures. He is great at explaining. There was two exams , a midterm and a final. Can benefit from more live classes but that wasn't a biggy for me.
Given his good reviews from before COVID, this may be due to online teaching, but his class was insane. The first exam we were given a little over 1 minute to answer each question, he had very minimal presence at all (his TA did all the work), the essay questions in his exam were unclear. I was so unimpressed, and it impacted my GPA. Not worth it!
Took this class with Dr. Gaskin. It was great how everything was recorded in advance. Took the classes whenever I wanted, studied the book, did the assignment and got an A. Perfect. Only thing was that the assignment was quite long but not that hard.
If you think this teacher is hard then idk how you will survive 400 level courses. This multiple choice questions are literally test bank questions and his long answer you can find in the textbook and get full marks easily (this is with online school anyways). The assignment i just wrote a lot and got full marks. He posts weeks in advance also
Hes one of the best Professors at Concordia.
I took Dr. Gaskin for PSYC355 (online) and I enjoyed the structure of his class. He delivered his class in an asynchronous style, and all lectures and slides were posted on the first day of class for the entire semester. I liked this because it allowed student to take the course at whichever pace they wanted. All assignments were also graded easily
Professor Gaskin is a very nice guy, but in my opinion not a good teacher when it comes to the online format (although I can't speak for in person). He is not accessible what so ever. I have sent him many emails and moodle messages and have never received an answer... not once. When the classes are prerecorded, how am I supposed to ask questions?!!
Dr . Gaskin is a great prof. The online pre-recorded lectures are great. He answers all the questions we have in the zoom sessions. He takes all the time necessary and gives lots of examples. I Had him for 355. Same comments. I would take him again for another course. I love the convenience of the pre-recording, although it has some disadvantages.
Extremely knowledgeable on the subject matter. Interesting and theoretical but gives ways to apply the knowledge in everyday life. Exams not too hard but gives a hard assignment.
This online course has lots of resources. It's practically self running. Hold's zoom sessions every couple of weeks for questions. Clarified a lot of questions in the zoom sessions. The assignment was hard and long though but you get through it. Take it next semester for sure if still online.
Professor Gaskin lectures are very interesting and all the content he covers is well explained and very interesting. The problem is that his exams poorly reflect his lectures as he uses test bank questions. You can tell that minimum effort goes into designing the tests and assignment. He also doesn't answer emails which is not acceptable.
Extremely good prof, great recorded lectures. Would have liked more zoom sessions. but overall it was a great experience. The assignment was hard though.
This is for PSYC 351. Dr. Gaskin clearly enjoys what he does, but is an ineffective communicator. Examples are long and unhelpful, and structure of lectures lacks cohesion. Exams are arbitrarily difficult and don't match the lectures. The assignment was cool but no grading criteria. Somehow mixed up our final grades.
Dr Gaskin teaches in an asynchronous way, so you can do the class at your own pace. His exams questions and paper format for this class are very direct, so if you study consistently you will get an A.
Great course and teacher. Well structured class. I f you enjoy the asynchronous format, this is it. But be aware that there might be a paper. You need to keep up. I did and git an A+.
Very sympathetic teacher . With the few zoom sessions available, he gave clear explanations on the material covered in textbook and pre-recorded sessions.
Although he was a great lecturer, his tests do not reflect his lectures. Class average was a D+ and he blamed the students for not studying. Did not want to curve. Avoid !
The teacher is very inaccessible outside of class. He does not actually teach his supposed in-person class as he uses the pre-recorded videos from the pandemic where all he does is read from his book and has his mic peak because he is recording in a car. None of his exams reflect the taught material. Avoid if you can.
Great lecturer for neuro. Live classes once every two weeks. Exams are fairly easy. Definately take it. Wish there was more in person.
Took the hybrid section of learning. This guy knows his stuff. The only thing is that the lectures are not actual lectures, he does a flipped classroom where you take the lectures online and then ask questions in class once a week. But I would prefer all in person.
Excellent and fascinating lectures for behavioural neuroscience. He conveys a lot of passion. Lecture are once every two weeks for 2.5 hrs. and online. 3 exams consisting of 2 midterms each worth 30 percent and a final worth 40. Very straightforward. The midterms were not too difficult. Take.
Fantastic prof. You work hard, you get the grade for it.
I really enjoyed professor Gaskin, he is obviously very knowledgable and passionate about teaching and about the subject matter, but sometimes the lectures are hard to follow and dont make sense. The material can be difficult but if youre able to supplement the lectures with your own research, its fine.
He is a fantastic prof for this course. Uses his own textbook, which is clear and concise and doesn't require too much reading. Very passionate. 2 midterms and 1 final, multiple choice and long answer questions. In-person lectures every other week, the other lectures are recorded and posted online. I'd definitely take him again.
His lectures were very easy to follow and he kept reminding us of past concepts that relate to new ones, so it was easy to make connections. I had the "eureka" moment many times while listening to him! We can see that he is a passionate teacher and not here to make your life a living hell.
midterm didn't reflect material at all
Gaskin is a little disorganized and PowerPoints contain virtually no information. However, he follows the textbook to a t, so it's very helpful to go back and read the material in the book to be able to digest this material which can sometimes be complicated.
Class consisted of prerecorded lectures and some in person classes, which I found very convenient. Exams were in person and hard if you are not prepared. Gives excellent weekly question periods on Zoom, which you learn a lot from. He sure knows his stuff. Overall though he is very good.
He gave drawn out & unhelpful examples instead of clearly outlining what was important and then moving on. Difficult exams. One question was a picture of an unlabeled graph from somewhere in the textbook and we had to explain what was happening. Expected to know particular details, instead of the overarching concept.
Extremely knowledgeable professor. You learn a lot by attending the weekly Zoom sessions. However, exams are difficult.
His lectures are very complicated and unclear, and his explanations often don't make sense or he mixes up what he's saying, which just makes it more confusing. Some of the exam questions are way too specific, referring to things that were not focused on or barely appeared in the textbook. The textbook is also very dry and difficult to get through.
Took him for 355 neuroscience. Doing great! Excellent prof when you attend the weekly zooms. The classes he gave in person were very interesting. 2 midterms and a cummulative final. Will be great when classes resume 100% in person.
Prof Gaskin makes the neuroscience class very interesting. He brings life to the topics and explains the ideas behind them in depth when in person. The class was supposed to be 25% in person but that was messed up at the beginning of the semester because of LOCKDOWN. I attended all of the weekly Zoom sessions which were very helpful.
He is knowledgeable about the subject, however, his lectures tend to be confusing and they were straight regurgitation of the textbook. The exam questions were extremely vague and often more than one answer was applicable. Overall, the midterm exams were more difficult than the final exam.
Very good prof. The key is to take all the online lectures but especially going to all Zoom meetings to ask questions. I liked the format. Two midterms (Only the first was hard).
This class turned out to be very interesting and I liked the format. He explains the material well. The exams are tricky and long but if you practice the material a lot, then you will probably find them straight forward. My complaint is that he was totally inaccessible outside of class.
told us only 15% of material before the midterm was going to be on the final, it was literally the long answer question. Horrible tests, never on what you're supposed to know, if i ever have him again im 100% taking the L and not taking the class. Also really really rude
Course was difficult but very interesting to learn about psychology form a mostly behavioural perspective. He has a knack for bringing the dry material to life. Three exams, so that you have a chance to make up for a bad one. Only the final was cummulative. Studied hard went to Zoom Q and As and got an A-. I liked the course overall.
Zoom sessions were a bit unclear but in person classes were exceptional. He was great at lecturing and very engaging. Neuro is my weakness, but I still managed to pass which was my goal. I just wish we had more opportunities to be in person. It made all the difference. Grades are based on 2 midterms and a cumulative final worth 40%
Great prof for PSYC 355. Material is interesting, tests were fair with only a few very specific questions. Study hard and pay attention to detail and you will succeed. Slightly disorganized, but has no effect on the course. The grading scheme is a little bit harsh, so aim high. Overall, would take again.
Gaskin is a cool prof and he's a good lecturer. His class is straight forward: Textbooks and exams. He's a bit disorganized but If you're on top of the material, as you need to be for this class, you'll fair well. Due to the pandemic we had online lectures that made it easy to review. Very interesting class and with much effort, I aced it.
Gaskin is a great professor who cares about his students and is ready to go over any topic you need help with. This class was much more theoretical than I thought It would be so It wasn't my favourite. But If you study and know the material you can do well. He bumped the grades for our final which was nice!
This prof is amazing. I had him in cognition and took personality purely because he was the one teaching it. Powerpoints are 20 slides, not too heavy, easy to rely on for studying. The book is interesting and not hard to read. 2 midterms and a final. Great class.
This prof runs a great class. Engaging lectures, reasonable workload, and an interesting textbook. Unstuck AI was super helpful for nailing the midterms and final. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a solid psychology elective.
Prof Gaskin has the best lectures I have seen at McGill. He is a great speaker and isn't drab or boring. He goes strongly off the textbook so be sure to READ THE TEXTBOOK. His lectures are basically just review of textbook. Tests are fair and reasonable, nothing crazy. Strongly recommend taking cognition too.
Gaskin is the one professor I will recommend to everyone. He gives cool and engaging lectures and his exams are extremely straightforward. He isn't out to trick you. Just read the textbook and you'll be more than okay.
