Frequent spelling and grammar errors in slides which makes things very confusing. Goes through slides very fast. Doesn't appreciate students asking questions in lecture. Seems as if she doesn't fully understand a lot of the material she teaches. Undoubtably a smart woman who was just never taught how to be a teacher. Prepare to teach yourself
Alright so basically she can be rude during lecture and she also likes to clap back to students but if you do the quizzes and the homework it can really help your grade
Clearly her first year teaching. It wasn't the best, but it was good for the experience she has. Her slides were not the best and did go through them quick, but you have the resources to look back at the slides and other material. Weekly homework was not bad, just have to stay on top. She clearly tried to be kind, I do think she will get better.
Pretty much what you'd expect from a prof who just started. I think she's still learning how to manage her time between slides so she rushes through the last few. She gets a bad rap, but if you do the pre-lecture readings and pay attention in class you'll do fine. She even records and posts lectures.
Professor Abramovich is difficult, but her expectations are clear. She is super helpful if you meet with her one-on-one and she is more than willing to help you out. There is a lot of homework, but it helps a you do better in the class
If you didnt take AP bio or an equivalent, it would be hard to follow along because she goes so fast. She is kinda rude during lecture and seems irritated when you ask questions about material. Overall if you dont have a good understanding of bio before, do not take her.
Mediocre teacher. Make sure to do the prefecture work or you will fall behind. Goes through her slides rapidly and they are often times confusing. Not always the most helpful. Make sure to follow any rules because she will call you out in the middle of lecture. Overall, okay teacher.
BIOL 1001 at Marquette is hard, regardless of teacher, so you will need to put the time in to do well. Dr. Abramovich goes through all of the material thoroughly and prepares you well for tests. She adds humor to lecture and is easy to contact via OH or e-mail. As a new teacher, she's not perfect, but she gives you all of the material to succeed.
Overall this class Is very lecture heavy. I did not take AP biology and was very confused. The slides do not make sense and you better be ready to teach yourself the material. If you study hard and put in the work its doable but Id rather take another professor. Professor Abramovich is smart but doesnt explain the slides very well.
She is super easy to get in contact with and very responsive to emails. The class is hard, but if you put in the work you can do well, which is how college is supposed to be.
Her lectures are extremely boring and fast so don't bother taking notes. Use pre-lectures for notes. It was her first year so she doesn't know how to teach very well, luckily biology is doable on your own.
Lectures are useless. The slides either have no useful information or too much that you don't have time to take notes for. The pre-lecture readings are helpful because it prepares you for the week. Bio is a teach yourself kind of class if you have Abramovich. If you took AP bio, it may be easier, if not, accepts failure :) Be ready for anger/tears.
Hard class for sure, I have gone to a couple office hours and she was helpful. Definitely requires a lot of work and lectures have a lot of material.
For me, this was Dr. A's first time teaching at MU and she got a lot of backlash for not being very experienced, but by the end of the semester, she had gotten a lot better IMO. I definitely plan on taking her again. You really just need to learn here teaching style and expectations and you'll be good. In a year or two, she'll be amazing.
attendance is taken by clicker questions, i rarely attended because she uses slides and basically just teaches from that. i studied from the book and ended class with a B+. not very flexible but if you study you'll be successful on exams
She has room for improvement but overall, I thought she was a good professor. Attendance is by clicker questions. Exams were pretty tough so definitely study and read your textbook. I recommend not taking notes in class as she goes through them pretty fast. You're better off just taking in all the info in as is and taking notes later.
Her lectures can be confusing sometimes. The slides are easy to understand and are helpful for the tests. Go to her office hours!! She is super caring and will make you better understand the material. The pre lecture readings and weekly quizzes can be a pain. BIOL 1001 is just a class that you have to study a lot for no matter the teacher.
My second time taking Dr. A. Her classes are difficult, but she is responsive to emails and gives good explanations to questions. She has had to post some lectures she doesn't finish online this semester, but they are never too long thankfully.
She uses clickers for participation and there are weekly reading assignments and quizzes, they are a pain but did help my grade. She is helpful during office hours.
Dr. A was generic. Most of her lecture slides consisted of images. Anytime someone had a question that extended beyond her lecture slides, she would go blank/ ignore the question. The class is like an AP psych class. Also, wait on buying books for this class because we were required to purchase a book and did not use it after the first week.
Bio is hard no matter who you have so it's not her fault. She teaches basically just what's on the slides, but you can tell she's passionate and tries to add some humor into the lecture. It's a hard class that will require an a lot of work and that's that
Dr. Abramovich may read from her slides, but keep in mind that BIO exam questions are pulled straight from slides no matter what professor you have. She covers all the material during the class time and is really funny which makes a hard class more bearable. Her slides are easy to read and she is truly interested in the subject she teaches.
Professor Abramovich is a very kind and caring person. I found her lectures to be a bit confusing due to the fast pace of the course material but she was very helpful during office hours. She never made me feel slow and always answered my questions as many times as needed.
Impossible MC exams An example of type questions that came from one exam with twenty others just like it: A person discovered that all cells of a human have a nucleus, all cells of an onion have a nucleus, and all cells of a rock have a nucleus. What is a valid hypothesis given this? A) All cells have a nucleus, B) If it's a cell, it has a nucleus.
Impssible tests
Her tests are hard and the class is a lot of work, but you can tell she cares. I stopped taking notes during class since it is fast paced and just listen to the lecture and have found I understand the material more. She is helpful during office hours.
Obviously a weed-out class with the ridiculous exam questions that don't even adequately test your knowledge. Ask any professor or TA from the Bio department and they would still probably get about ten of them wrong out of forty.
At the beginning of the year I took notes from lectures but stopped because she moves very fast. I suggest just downloading the lecture (she posted them the night before) and highlighting what is important during the lecture. She is entertaining during her lecture when she can. Tests are difficult with scores averaging 60s.
Dr. Abramovich is a good professor, but teaches a lot topics needed to further bio major (her bad rep. may come from this). Look at slides before class, and study around 2+ hours a day. Studying is the only way to pass this class, it is not her fault for bad test averages, this class isn't for the weak, but she tries to help as much as she can.
She's not that bad. You just need to study a lot for this class. Class averages were really bad this year but I just think its the fact that people come into college thinking its going to be easy. Its a weed-out class and if you're not determined to grind ur gonna fail
She truly is a great lady and outside of class she is very caring, and helpful, however she is really not the best teacher. I would not suggest taking her class if you are looking to learn, as she moves so fast through the lectures. I ended up teaching myself most of the material through separate online resources.
She was a decent prof. She went too fast in the lecture, but she made the effort to explain difficult concepts. But I mainly had to use outside resources to teach myself. She's a lil quirky and will crack a joke sometimes. She wasn't a bad prof tho.
This class has caused my mental health to decline significantly. Every second of free time since college has started has been spent studying for this class. Exam questions are long and confusing, with grammatical errors present. She is the sole reason I have not enjoyed college for one second so far, and has been the cause of me rethinking my major
I don't solely blame Dr. Abramovich but the tests in this class were very poorly constructed. After already taken physics, organic chemistry, and chemistry with A's, the exams in this class were exponentially more difficult solely because of the way they were written. I also dislike how grades are curved at the end of the semester.
This course really humbled me. From a straight-A student in high school to this class...this course affected my mental health, to say the least. Dr. Abramovich is a nice person and is helpful during her office hours/one-on-one meetings. But the averages on her exams were low 60s. Be ready to work hard in this class to just get a passing grade:/
Don't miss lectures and take every point seriously if you want a good grade. Discussion was a joke but Professor Abramovich is nice and helpful in office hours and over email. Don't think just because you took AP classes your going to do well, test week is awful and you can know all the information and still do poorly on the exams. Have fun!
Get all the extra easy points that you can because once the semester comes to an end, those extra points can be the difference between a letter grade. Go to all of your discussions and retake connect quizzes to get the best score, even if you got a 90 the first attempt. I slacked with that and was 0.4% away from an A-; don't make my same mistake.
A lot of people don't like her teaching style, but she really isn't as bad as everyone makes her out to be. Nevertheless, prepare to be humbled, as you will have to give your blood, sweat, and tears to do well in this class, especially if you're not that into bio already.
The 4 exams are brutal, you need to study at least 20 hours in advance and even still run the risk of getting under a 90%. Dr. A is a nice person and the tests are based 100% on lecture slides. There is simply an absurd amount of information that you need to know so well that you can apply it to any question on a test. The final is easy though.
Overall a hard teacher. I would go to class and pay close attention to lecture slides. I spent hours studying in the library everyday and would average 75% on the Exams. Discussions are hard but the topics covered will be on the test. Questions on the exam are trick questions. I am pre-med and have felt discouraged but I passed and so will you! :)
Gen bio with Dr. A is difficult in the way that you'll have to study enough to understand the topics as she makes test questioned based on UNDERSTANDING the material. Other than the difficult tests, the class is not that difficult. Try and take notes before class as she will go through slides extremely fast.
Be prepared to devote all of your free time to this class. Other people in different classes didn't have nearly as hard of issues as I am having. In high school i was an A bio student they were C/B. She will help in office hours but doesn't do well in our class time. Plan on teaching yourself a lot.
If you don't do your work, study or pay attention in her class, don't expect a good grade. As long as you follow lecture and read the material, you will pass. Exams are hard, but Dr. A answered all my questions in person and through email before the exam. She is a great professor and I would recommend her class to anyone who is willing to study.
Dr. Abramovich is a silly and nice person who seems to care about becoming a better professor. Beware, the weekly book quizzes don't really match the lectures. Doing the readings before class helps. Some test questions can be insanely confusing, but just make sure to study hard. The group project is not that hard, but it always sucks.
Dr. A is funny and you can tell she cares. Tests are hard.
I was 0.01 away from an A- and she refused to round. Do not take her.
She snaps at students. Was at helpdesk and she snapped at a student. Later said sorry. Then she snapped at another student during office hours. The discussion takes off random points for nothing. Tough grader. TA never shows up. The tests are obscurely hard. Overall good lecturer.
Makes the class interesting, the project is not the best
Compared to BIOL 1001/2, you can tell she likes teaching cell biology. She is really funny during lecture, and keeps it short but helpful. You do not need to buy a textbook to get an A, her slides are very useful and she posts videos after each lecture. There is no cumulative final, just a 8 page group paper (not bad at all). I highly recommend!
If you are willing to put in the work you can get a good grade, I studied A LOT for each exam, do the pre-lecture readings bc they help as she goes fast in lecture and they are easy points to help your grade. If you make an effort to get to know her she is really nice, but at first she can seem passive aggressive and tries to hard to be funny.
Lets just rip the band-aid off. Bio 1001 is HARD. There is a test every three weeks and the average is around 60%. Class is very hard, but required for STEM majors. With that said, Abramovich is the BEST of the Bio 1001 teachers. Her class has the highest test grade average compared to the other Biol 1001 teacher's classes. Need the class TAKE HER!
BIOL 1001 is a hard class. It is a weed out so you need to be prepared to do your homework, and try your best to really understand and be able to apply the material. The tests are hard. Lecture heavy and often reads off slideshows. GET TUTORING. I didn't and I ended up with a C
Dr A is a good professor and knows her stuff. She is the best prof out of all the Bio 1001 options. However, her exams are SO hard and meant to trick you. I relate them to ACT style in how the wording intentionally tries to trip you up. I genuinely spent 95% of my study time on this class and still received my lowest grade in this class.
A tough class, but she isn't the worst. Definitely a weed-out, and just an annoyance if you have more important courses. That being said, she gives very information-filled lectures. Exams are often, and the wording of questions is often confusing, figuring out what she's asking can be harder than the actual content. Annoying course, alright prof.
Dr. A is a great professor! She is great at explaining concepts if you go to her office hours. The tests are every 3 weeks and are quite difficult but if you study the lecture slides the exams are manageable. Dr. A does a good job in lecture and I felt like I learned a lot during that time. Would highly recommend Dr.A for BIOL1001
This was a challenging class with a lot of material, so be ready to put in the work. Dr. Abramovich is willing to help outside of class and so are the TAs, so take advantage of that. The exams can be weirdly worded with lots of grammatical errors so beware of that.
Bio1001 is a tough class and a weed out but out of the 3 professors for this course Abramovich is your best option. Her slides are very detailed and give you all of the info you need to know. Tests are hard and worded difficultly but if you put in the work and seek outside help from tutors or TAs they can give you some tips. Hard but doable.
Fast, but good lectures
Very helpful professor and reachable outside of class. Would recommend to sign up for tutoring for extra help. Didn't love Biol1001, but had her again for Biol1002 and it was a lot better material wise.
She is a overall amazing proffesor. Is her class hard? Yes. She does an amazing job on breaking everything down for you and her slides will be your best friend. Make sure to go to her office hours, so she get to know you because she can help even more if she does. The test are hard, so prepare at least a week and a half in advance for them.
She is a good teacher. The lectures can get boring, but she does sometimes make it funny. I didn't love Biol1001, but Biol1002 was so much better and easier to understand. I would say she explains things well and is very helpful outside of class.
Hard, but helpful outside of class
Dr A is very helpful and open to questions, especially outside of class. Her lectures are extensive and cover a ton of material and the ~300 slides per unit are essentially to be memorized for each exam. Her exams are difficult and oftentimes try to trip you up. I spent the most time out of all my classes combined on this class.
Dr. Abramovich was a great professor for BIOL1002. She covers a lot of material in class at a quick rate but does her best to make it as easy to understand as possible. The class is weighted heavily by 4 exams and the final. Show up to lecture, study hard and you will do great! Highly recommend Dr. Abramovich.
Very funny and always makes time to help students outside of class
A lot of people think she is harsh but if you go to office hours she is really reasonable and if you pay attention and study well then it isn't as bad as people make it out to be. It is definitely challenging and a weed out class, but if you are determined it's easy. Discussion is the worst part.
The only issue was the tests. Be prepared to fail! But do good on the homework and quizzes and assignments for discussion and your grade should even out. You will study for days and weeks and still fail.
Helpful, hard tests
She is an AMAZING professor in terms of personality and teaching. Her slides are easy to follow and she really does know what she's talking about. She does teach pretty fast and sometimes it's hard to keep up with her pace but overall, she will explain and help you out during office hours.
This is a weed-out class, so be prepared. Memorization will not take you anywhere. Dr. Abramovich's exams are very difficult. She teaches pretty fast, and sometimes, it's hard to keep up with her pace. Do well on the homework, quizzes, group projects, and discussion assignments. The class is weighted heavily by 5 exams and the final.
Dr. Abramovich is a great professor. My only issue is the exams. They are meant to be confusing and extremely difficult. Do not expect to get all A's on them at all. My best advice is to do daily review of the topics she is teaching, as it is a lot of material and can be overwhelming.
Good teacher overall. Lectures and slides are easy to follow and lectures are recorded, however the tests are extremely hard and unnecessary for a general biology class
Overall, she is a great teacher. The lectures and slides are easy to follow, and the lectures are recorded. However, the tests are confusing and extremely hard for a general biology class. Keep in mind that this is a weed-out class. My best advice is to review the topics that she is teaching each day, as there is a lot of material.
She is absolutely the best Bio professor to take. Although she is a tough grader, she explains things well during class and was super helpful during office hours. Best Bio professor for Bio 1001 :)
She's pretty nice and explains the material in a way that's easy to understand. Her low class average is reflective of the switch from high school to college-type questions, NOT her teaching style. It's simply lecture heavy, so get ready to study. Group projects are the absolute worst. Pre-lecture readings can also suck.
She's a great biology professor at Marquette and very caring, but her exams are extremely challenging. Even with study guides, you'll need to know everything from lectures, as tests often include unexpected material. Averages are low despite tutoring and studying. Prepare to dedicate significant time and effort to succeed in this course.
Hardest class I've ever taken, but don't be fooled, she's the best option for BIOL 1001. The tests are very hard, but If you are good at studying you can do well. The worst part of the class was the group projects that were due before every exam. They are so harshly graded. You get one drop on the exams so use it wisely.
BIOL1001 is an extremely hard class. Her tests are designed for you to fail, with the average of each one being around 60%. Make sure to study the learning objectives, study guides, and post-lecture worksheets for each test. She is very accessible outside of class and is willing to help. The class will get easier once you figure out how to study.
Tests are hard, but doable. She is helpful and cares.
She is pretty funny during class!
Really loved Abramovich. Did not even read the textbook. She is very good at lectures and she posts them online, rewatch and understand each one and you will do fine on tests. I got a B or above on each one without going to office hours. Worst part is group projects, need to know content well but I still struggled on them. Ask questions
Dr. Abramovich is very friendly and a great biology professor. She moves through slides very quickly, so it's important to take notes from recordings after the lecture, instead of trying to take everything down during the lecture. I would take her class again.
Biology is an inherently difficult course and hard to teach, but Dr. Abramovich did an excellent job. The course moves quick so it's important to not fall behind. Her tests are difficult, but rewatching her lectures helps a ton.
BIOL 1001 is a tough course but Dr. Abramovich has her lectures planned out well. She provides all the slides from in class. It is not enough to just memorize the slides to prepare for tests you must understand the content in order to understand test questions. She is overall a good lecturer and gives the necessary information and help to succeed!
She doesn't teach and reads word for word of the slides. The tests are rarely related to the things we learned in class and are super challenging. Every time the tests came out, the class average would be 60, and she would yell at her classes for needing to prepare the material better.
Dr. A was AMAZING, I wish I could have her again. The class is hard but shes your best choice. Her lectures are heavy, so review them after class. She truly cares and wants you to do well. She helped me improve from a D average on exams to 90+ on the last three. She will go over material with you repeatedly until you understand it and doesn't mind.
BIOL 1001 is very tough, especially for a freshman level course. Dr. Abramovich is definitely the best option to teach it. Definitely attend her lectures, as she actually delves more into the topic than just what the slides say. Reread your notes after the lectures. The tests are super tough but study throughout the semester and it'll be fine!
A nice person. Gives extra help when needed. Tests are very lecture heavy and sometimes the questions are worded weird. Would still take again
She did a terrible job at teaching and does not understand her students at all. Unfair questions and grades that she couldn't defend if you asked her about them.
I enjoyed 1002 more than 1001, Abramovich does a good job breaking down material.
I love her! While the class is very hard, she breaks down the material very well. I wish I could take her class again. Exams are hard, but if you study the slides and learning objectives you will do well. DO NOT BE LATE to her lecture, she will call you out infront of everyone.
Dr. Abramovich's lectures are funny and interesting. Her exams are so hard and as someone who did not take Biology 1001 with her it sucked. I would study for hours and still fail. She does not curve I was 0.7 away from a B and she would not round. You have no choice but to take her cause she writes the exams. Be present to lecture she will call you
Challenging biology class but Dr. Abramovich makes it doable. She helped me so much in her office hours and emails. Take her. She's easy to understand, cared about me and my classmates, and her lectures were fun. She's young and respected.
I took this class over the summer, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. There were reading assignments through Connect, 6 weekly quizzes (15 questions, open notes), 6 weekly activities (worksheets), 6 weekly assessments (those were similar to 6 weekly activities), and 2 exams (midterm, final (not cumulative)). DO NOT fall behind!!
Her class isn't easy, but she is absolutely a great professor. She goes above and beyond to make her lectures fun, and if you ask her, she will clarify topics over and over again until you feel confident. She's also very flexible if need be- she offered to let me attend class virtually when I was on crutches so I wouldn't have to walk so far.
For BIO 1001/1002. By some miracle, I was able to get an A in both. She is well known for having dense slides and even denser tests that will have you recall the most obscure facts/figures from class. The worst part is how harsh she is,she is well known for snapping at students during lecture/being very unaccommodating.
This class is much more difficult than expected for the subject level. The exams felt unnecessarily tricky and often did not reflect the material emphasized in class. Be prepared to dedicate a significant amount of time to studying if you want to earn a decent grade. It often felt like the tests were designed to tric you rather than assess you.
Moves VERY fast in lectures, I have had to go back and review 60% of the lectures on 0.8x speed actually get the info I needed. Thank GOD there are multiple contributing factors to your grade because personally no matter how much studying, tutoring, or academic coaching I receive, I can't get higher than a 70%. Very sweet though.
Biology 1001 is a tough class, especially for freshmen adjusting to the college life. Abramovich is tough but is always willing to take the time to give extra help outside of lectures. The lectures are fast and filled with a ton of info, but she thoroughly explains everything. Just take the time to actually study and utilize tutoring.
Lectures are heavy and fast. Exams are application-heavy. A very difficult course, but manageable. There are a lot of resources outside of this class to help you, so utilize them. Go to office hours. She genuinely cares and wants you to pass. Just have to stay on top of yourself for this course, and you'll pass. Find friends to study with!
Tests are application heavy. You HAVE to review for her exams, no exceptions. She's quick during lectures, but gets to the point. Pre-lectures are annoying but helpful. She wants you to pass so use all the available resources you can find and stay on top of your stuff.
Dr. Abramovich was a thorough and entertaining lecturer. Easily available outside of class. Attendance wasn't outright called mandatory but was a part of your grade. Exams were difficult, but plenty of resources were provided.
Dr. Abramovich does a really good job of putting concepts from class into easily understandable terms. She's really good about being available so you can ask questions so as long as you keep up with the textbook readings, take notes in lecture, and follow up if you're confused it's not very hard to get an A, you just have to work a little for it.
