This is the worst teacher i have ever had. Covers way to much material for an entry level class, and those words are coming from the lab teachers, not me. Avoid at all cost!
I thought she was a great prof. She was interested in the subject and made the lectures interesting. She was good about letting you know what is going to be on the exams. Exams are challenging though, studying is definitely something you cannot avoid.
She is awesome! You have fun and learn a lot at the same time! take her!
The lectures were really information packed, and the tests were intense. They were intersting, but Prof. Bender doesn't get the concept that this is an intro course, so it's more work than it's worth.
Professor Bender was awesome for her first semester. She is still learning the ropes but she will get it. Very helpful with answering questions that we have from lecture. I learned way more in this lab than I did in any of the lectures. Just study all of your labs inside and out and you'll be fine.
For her first year of teaching, she did a decent job. However, I did have an issue with the pace at which the class was taught. There was so much information to learn. Instead of taking time to teach it, she rushed through it. I still learned a lot, but this class is packed full of information. Be prepared to work. All in all, not a bad experience.
Her lectures had a lot of information, used good examples, and managed to get through most of the material in one lecture. Answered questions throughout lecture if you needed further explanations and helps a lot if you meet with her outside of class. If you pay attention in lectures and really study for exams you can do well.
She'll deduct points from your labs for nothing, it is just pointless with her. Make sure you detail your labs as much as possible...very hard grader, I would so sugest you take it with someone else. Very, very picky and she really should not be because she isn't that knowlegable!
I had her for lab and she was good. She knew what she was doing, and she was always helpful if you needed something. The practical exam was really hard, but her weekly quizzes weren't bad if you knew the material. Overall, just study the stuff and it will be okay. She's pretty nice.
Such an easy class. All you do is listen to her describe where and what functions of body parts and such. She's very good at teaching the material too. Helpful and funny also.
She was very helpful and allowed you to recieve extra credit. The class is very straight forward if you attend class and study the material
She is such a great teacher, and so nice! She is really helpful if you are having issues understanding the content. It's not hard to do well as long as you go to class and study the concepts. She doesn't really do her tests based off the the book, it's all lecture. So go to class , take good notes and you will do fine!
Awesome prof. Would love to take all of my classes with her. Very helpful
So nice and so helpful, clears up anything if you have a question and will always help you if you ask. Highly recommended!
She is so nice and personable. Great teacher! Exams fit with the material she covers. She is always wiling to help, if you don't understand. She has assignments basically for extra help, and participation.
Professor Bender is very straight forward with everything she expects of you and even makes outlines for the notes for class and pay attention its an easy A
She is an awesome professor! She really cares if do good or not. Ask questions she will take them to explain more if you don't understand ! Go to class and understand the material, flashcards are you best friend!
She is very straightforward with her expectations. I had no anatomy background and finished with over 100% in her class.
Loved her. great professor, very clear about expectations and does her best to make the class interesting and is sympathetic to the workload. I would take her again if i could!
She is a good lecture professor, helpful to anyone who asks questions or is confused. I would recommend her
She is such a good teacher! Her exams aren't bad if you study. She really loves teaching anatomy which makes me more excited about the subject.
TAKE HER TAKE HER TAKE HER. I can't emphasize this enough. she's truly incredible. VERY clear. I loved her. i took BMS 208 before with Professor Tallman and she sucked. With Bender, everything makes sense. I HIGHLY reccommend her. ATTEND CLASS THOUGH. This is crucial for a good grade.
I LOVE Professor Bender! She is straightforward with what she expects and truly cares for your success as a GVSU student! If you are coming into A & P hoping it will be a breeze, let's be real. Anatomy and Physiology will never be an easy class, and even Bender cannot make it an easy subject. But, I am always excited to learn because of her!!
I LOVED prof. Bender she is honestly the best. I had her for lecture and lab. She is clear about everything she teaches and makes the class extremely interesting and she is super funny. I learned a lot in her class and I would recommned her for any class she teacher LOVE HER
She is so complex. She explains things so complicated. Her tests hardly have pictures so by the time you have to think of where everything is on the body your time is up for the test. I am an A student and I had to drop this class (I even already took an anatomy class at a community college I was just retaking this class for fun). NO GOOD
TAKE BENDER! She is wonderful, and honestly one of the best professors I have had in 4 years here. She is clear, easy to approach and very helpful with all of her students. Tests are fair and there are no surprises. I have no complaints what so ever.
Bender was amazing! She is so helpful and makes everything you learn interesting. She pushes you to do better, but she wants to see you succeed. TAKE HER.
She is a great prof. She is very ethusiatic about A and P. If the class isn't quite understanding the material she will put it in terms that you will understand. She is also more than willing to help outside of class. I would highly recommend her.
Bender is a great professor! She is so clear during lecture and makes sure everyone understands. There's a lot of material covered in each unit but as a long as you study and take the time to understand it's piece of cake! The final exam is also not cumulative, which was great!
Prof Bender is amazing!I read the book a bit and found it did help, a few questions pop up from the text on all exams and quizzes that aren't covered in class. Pay attention, many times you think she is just telling an interesting side note and it ends up being a question on an exam. If you listen closely, you can tell what will show up on exams.
Good Prof, exams are somewhat difficult but if you go to class and pay attention, minimal studying can still get you a good grade.
She is an amazing teacher! Highly recommended to everyone. Just attend class, take simple notes, and you will succeed. Never have to read the textbook. Notes in class is exactly what is on the test.
Professor Bender is one of my favorite teachers that I've had. She is very knowledgeable in the content of the course, & explains things very clearly. She is extremely kind & helpful, & is more than willing to help you at anytime. Your grade in this class depends solely on how much studying you put in. I recommend taking her for lecture & for lab!
She basically based her exam questions on the smallest of details. Studying for her class was awful as she was never clear on her topics. I even had an SLA and I still got a C
Professor Bender is okay. She is not very helpful and also mean. She is never willing to accept ANY other answers besides for her own..even if it was in the book! She was tough and I wish I could have taken another professor and gotten an A-. Sucks that they don't round up. Hard class. Be prepared.
LOVED!! She was great! she taught very well and was clear on what you need to know. Tests are fairly easy, study and you'll do fine. Highly Recommend!! Probably one of the best instructors I have had at Grand Valley!
I thought professor Bender was so great! She clearly explained the anatomy and tried to come up with multiple ways to explain the difficult concepts. If you go to class and pay attention, you should be fine.
Professor Bender is probably one of the best professors at GV. She is super helpful and her powerpoints are clear on the topic. Your grade in the class relies heavily on the exams but if you study and know the material, they are pretty easy. Definitely recommend this professor for Anatomy & Phys!
Professor Bender is not my favorite teacher that I've had. Meeting with her one on one to ask questions was awful because she is mean. She is not an understanding person at all. She is never willing to accept ANY other answers besides her own - it doesn't matter if the answer you wrote is in the book, she'll still mark you wrong.
Bender was a really great professor. She never had enough time in lecture however which meant that I was teaching myself a lot of the material. You also have 6 exams, which comes out to about one every two weeks which was awful. Its constant studying and if you miss class you're screwed
Professor Bender was one of the best professors I have ever had. The material itself is tough, and you need to be self-motivated when it comes to studying. As a professor however, she presents the material in a easy-to-understand fashion, and gives you many tricks and mnemonics to help you learn the information. I would highly recommend!
Hands down one of my favorite professors. Her lectures were extremely clear to me and she knows the material very well
Very clear lectures--understandable and she tends to make a lot of analogies which is super helpful. Very welcoming to help outside of class which is very nice because the exams can be a little rough. But if you put in the work outside of class you will do well.
All I have to say about Bender is good luck, take at your own risk. I guess if your'e into doing lab reports with complex directions and questions, with the benefit of receiving hardly any help from her along the way... well then she is the professor for you! Like others said, she grades as if we know as much detail about Physiology as her. Avoid.
Professor Bender is very nice and she can be helpful. She sometimes messes up things shes saying and she turns around and corrects herself which is okay but sometimes it gets confusing when its a difficult topic. Don't bother with office hours she just hands you your test, you look over it, and that's it, she doesn't even go over it with you.
I took her for lab. Very nice lady. Quizzes every week. Impossible to get an A on them after the first two quizzes. If you are smart and want to do good, do not take her for lab. I would study all week for her quizzes and still not get an A. Unsure about lecture, but I heard she was good for that! DO NOT TAKE FOR LAB!
The class is easily passable if you do the work. The homework is online but not to hard to accomplish in a short amount of time. You have to go to class in order to get the information needed for the exams. She gives you notes and is very clear about what you need to know in order to do well.
Clear & organized powerpoint lectures, print notes + take notes in lecture. 6 exams 90% of grade, Answers questions during and after lecture, Tells you how to study if you need help, Study a few times a week (don't have to read textbook) B+ or A. Literally best Human Anatomy professor @ GVSU. Extra credit on final exam. SHE CARES ABOUT YOU!
Bender was the perfect professor for my first BMS course. You could tell she knew what she was talking about and loved the subject. She's also very friendly and is happy to help if you have questions.
Professor Bender really seems to care for her students. She makes her lectures interesting and fun (she'll crack a few jokes now and then). She tells you about her adorable little daughters. She is always willing to help. She is flexible. Altogether, she is my favorite teacher at GVSU. Altogether good person and teacher.
I absolutely loved Prof Bender. Everyone has their own idea of a great prof and she was mine. Always to class on time and prepared, gives an outline to follow with her powerpoints, clear and loud voice, and very interesting to listen to. Tests are average, just make sure to put in a good amount of time studying. Gives homework but takes 5 min to do
Don't take her for lab, just don't. Its not that she's a bad grader, or a bad lecturer, but she is a very tough grader. I won't say she's the hardest, cause I know there are much harder professors, but if you can avoid her for lab, do so. This is only pertinent for lab reports btw, she doesn't control the quizzes.
I took BMS 309 (the cadaver lab) this previous Fall 2015 semester . I thought she was very nice and extremely helpful. Most of this class is based on how much time you put into it outside of lab. Use the tutoring room and ask questions and you will be fine. She is always willing to help!
Very nice person, and is open to answer any questions you have and will meet up with you to help. She does not post her lecture slides, so you have to go to class in order to get the correct information and to pass. Her online homework and assignments are helpful for studying and help you understand the material much better.
She's a great professor and really knows the information but the class itself has a lot of content to memorize. She assigns case studies which start out fun but she quickly begins to grade them very hard. Sometimes expects more from students than they are capable when it comes to comprehension but she's also very willing to help out
Prof Bender is a tough grader, but she is a great teacher. I enjoyed having her as a lecture teacher this semester, and would definitely recommend her.
Tests are really hard. You can study forever and think you know your stuff and then test day comes and she makes you second guess everything
Bender is great at explaining and is a very personable professor, gets on your level. Getting a good grade is another story. Study constantly, tests are very hard and in-depth.
She's an amazing professor! Super helpful, and doesn't put you down when you ask questions. She will always try to help you understand the material, but the tests require that you study a lot and try to really make connections in the material. One of the best professors I've had at GV!
Bender was a great professor at explaining things although sometimes she would go very fast in lectures so it got a bit confusing. The case studies are tough sometimes and she is a hard grader. She really does want her students to succeed though so she is always willing to help. I would take her again.
Professor Bender is the best I've had so far. She really knows what she's talking about and she's passionate about it which makes for a good lecture experience. There are case studies throughout the course, which help a lot with application. She is always ready and willing to help if you don't understand. You will definitely need to study though.
Professor Bender is by far the best professor I have had at Grand Valley. She is extremely passionate about what she does and really wants you to succeed. She always tries to accommodate outside class time aside from office hours to meet and answer any questions you may have. I would highly recommend her! You do have to work for your grade though!
Lectures are extremely important; if you miss one, you'll need to get notes from someone else. The class is as hard as it needs to be, but yet she's fair and thoroughly explains everything. She also doesn't have any trick questions. She makes it clear what you need to study for and do to get a good grade, but you have to do the work. Great class.
This was a very hard class, but this professor made it clear on what you needed to do in order to succeed. The exams are the bulk of your grade but they were all fair and were always on exactly what we learned. She cares about your success and wants you to learn. Overall great professor and I would totally take her again!
This class was very challenging, but professor bender was very good and told us exactly what we needed to know. There were never any surprises on exams and she really wants you to learn the material and succeed. She gives you everything you need to do well in her class and lectures are VERY important to go to! I would for sure take her again
Prof. Bender was by far my favorite prof. at GV! She did not sugarcoat the difficulty of the class, but was always available to discuss exams, study tips, or clarify concepts. This class is exam heavy, so it is imperative to make it to class or get notes from a friend if you do miss. She rewards you for hard work and is very encouraging. Take her!
This is one of the hardest classes at GV. The lab reports take up to 10 hours to write, and there are multiple a semester. Bender is an awesome person, and tries to help you out, but is just an extremely hard grader. The class is hard enough as it is, but her nit-pickiness makes getting an A nearly impossible. Great person, tough prof.
Overall, she's pretty good. Her lectures were simple and easy to understand but the exams were really hard. I found myself studying for weeks before the exams and still finding questions on the exam difficult and too detailed. Not very much homework but there are weekly quizzes, online assignments and case studies. Make sure to study constantly.
Bender is awesome. She explains everything very clearly and really tries to help you if you go to her office hours. Her tests are straightforward, but you do have to study a lot for them. She gives you as much material as she can to help you study, which is really nice. I would totally take her again.
I had her for lecture and lab. Loved her for lecture, wasn't a fan for lab. In lab, she takes points off if you don't state a certain word even if you demonstrate full understanding. However, she is an excellent professor. Puts the info in a clinical perspective and very knowledgable! The class is difficult with any prof, be prepared to work hard!
Professor Bender is one of the BEST professors I've ever had. She is extremely caring. Tests are straight forward, and notes are given so you won't have to take them on your own.
Bender is a good professor but if your learning style doesn't match the way she teaches then it makes it very hard. You definitely have to do ALL the work and study A LOT because it is a very difficult course but if you put the effort in you should get a good result.
I really enjoyed taking Prof Bender's class. She is an amazing teacher and really helps you understand the material throughout lecture. Her teaching style is great and she is such a nice person. Would definitely try to take a class with her again.
Professor Bender is awesome. I really appreciate how much she cares about her students. She makes you work for your grade, with weekly quizzes, case studies, and some hard exams. But, if you study and put the effort into the difficult course, she will do everything she can to help and see you succeed. She gives note outlines, but no study guides.
Professor Bender was a great Human Anatomy professor. Since the BMS 208 class is only 3 credits and there is no lab, your grade depends all on tests and weekly quizzes. Offers few bonus point opportunities. Attendance is mandatory.
Very hard grader, but very insightful on the topic of matter.
She is a very kind woman but this lab is difficult. She does everything she can to help you for the quizzes and test (she does not write them) but they are still very difficult. She grades the labs very tough, so if they aren't perfect, you will not get higher than a B. Very compassionate and understanding.
A very tough class that requires a ton of studying to fully grasp the material. Getting an A is tough but completely doable if you're ready to work for it. Professor Bender also provides numerous extra credit opportunities that I suggest you take advantage of.
she is really nice but compared to the professor i had last semester she could definitely do a lot more to help the students since it is such a difficult class. 250 was easy and the prof gave us a lot more materials to help understand it. just wish she would as well. goes thru lectures quick and doesnt post powerpoints. try to pick someone else
Bender is AMAZING! It's not an easy A class but if you put the work in your results will show. Exams are from lecture notes, GO TO LECTURE. She's more than willing to answer any questions/concerns. She also adds humor to the class which is a plus! Offers extra credit here and there. Doesn't sugarcoat the difficulty of the class, don't slack off!
Really great professor! Her class wasn't easy, but she was one of the best professors I've had.
Overall it's a hard class and you have to work for it no matter who your professor is. But she has objectives the she posts with her notes and if you master those then you'll do fine on exams. The exams are tough, they'll say "both a and b are right" "all of above/none of above" you just have to really know your stuff and you'll be fine.
Bender is a very good prof. Tests are basically all from notes. You need to know the notes inside and out, with every detail in order to get an A. Typically studied 5 days in advance to exams but there are no surprise questions on exams. If you put in the effort, you will be able to get an A! Anat is all memorization so it's on YOU to memorize it!
Really good prof I would take her again. The tests are definitely hard but if you study the learning objectives and details you'll be good. Also very helpful during office hours. AWESOME!!!!!
Professor Bender is honestly my favorite teacher! She gives out lecture notes that you go over in class and the tests are basically the same information. With that being said, there is outside work that needs to be put in. Overall, she is a great teacher and if you work hard she'll help in any way possible to get you to where you want to be.
I can't recommend this professor enough for any anatomy/physiology class. A&P is difficult no matter what, but she can explain the material in a way that's easy to understand. Super helpful in class and office hours, will go over exams with you, and just an overall excellent teacher. You can tell she really wants you to succeed. TAKE HER!
Stay in this class, she is one of the best BMS profs at GV. Yeah, you have to work for a good grade and go to class, but you should be doing that already. She cares about her students and she has very well worded exams. I really enjoyed being in her class and she is easy to get a hold of. You will be glad you have her in the end.
Best BMS professor at GV! Go to class. Gives pretty frequent tests but it's better to study small chunks for a good grade than a ton of info for an 'okay' grade. Every little point counts, so pay attention because she is super clear about grading criteria! Some bonus points. Visit her office hours for questions- she is super kind to her students!
Bender is the BEST! You do have to work in her class and every point matters! DO NOT SKIP/MISS class. if you want to get a B or higher. Her notes are super helpful, make sure to complete them! I never scored less than an 85% on her exams because I made sure I could answer all of the objectives, which were almost the same questions on the exam!
BEST ANATOMY PROFESSOR EVER. I really cannot recommend her enough. Take her for any class she is amazing.
Awesome prof! It's anatomy so all you have to do is memorize structures! She gives a couple points of extra credit using APR. Every point matters!
A&P is not easy but she sure makes it better. Go to office hours, she is always happy to help you understand things. She was super intimidating at first but I promise she's not that scary. Don't just study the objectives, make sure you know them in and out. Put in the effort and you can get an A.
Gives packets for notes that have exactly what you need for tests. Great professor and always open to help during office hours. Gives random kahoots to see if you're there and doing well. You need the online book for homework. There is minimal extra credit but the class is easy if you review notes the night before the test. Amazing teacher overall.
Amazing prof! A+P is hard, but she explains things so well. I love how she is patient enough to repeat herself in simpler terms. exams are hard and you need to study a lot. she has quizzes, learnsmart assignments, and case studies.
This is an amazing prof, I took her for cadaver lab and she makes the experience very enjoyable. Of course, this is not an easy class but that is the nature of it. Prof Bender is lenient on some of the spelling and using common names, which is great. I look forward to hopefully taking more classes with her
I loved Professor Bender so much. Her lectures were amazing and she really wants her students to succeed. She explains things in a "matter of fact way" which makes the lecture material clear and easy to follow. This is not an easy class, but if you study the objectives and go to lecture you will do well. TAKE HER!!!
ATTEND LECTURE. Dr. Bender gives lecture outlines but not all the material is included so you'll want to go. She also offers a way to 'curve' your grade but you do have to work for it. All around she's fair, funny, and a really good teacher. BMS 209 is extremely hard in general but she does also offer study guides that helped a ton.
Do not take this professor! I have tried so hard and still found exams extremely difficult. Only 5 exams and some online quizzes and case studies. Exams are Extremely difficult. She tries to test us like we have knowledge of a graduate level physiology class. She does not post lecture notes either.
Her exams are incredibly detail oriented& if you're not studying every night, you won't do well. She's a very effective prof but covers heavy material in a very short amount of time. She doesn't post her powerpoints so attendance is mandatory. Don't get me wrong though, she's a very nice prof& is easy to listen to during lecture. It's just a lot
Professor Bender is a great BMS251 professor. She provides clear descriptions and is able to relate the topic to the big picture and incorporate multiple concepts. I really enjoyed the case studies per unit. Don't skip class, every lecture has important material for the tests. She allows electronics so you can type your notes.
Stephanie is the BEST professor I've ever had. In general this class is hard, but she makes it very easy. She has her students print outlines for the notes and tells you exactly what she wants for exams. You still need to study, but she is very straight forward. I would do anything to take her again!
Bender is extremely passionate about what she teaches, and her lectures are extremely interesting. She is extremely lecture heavy though and if you will not do well on the following exam. She doesn't really understand that students have jobs and lives outside of class, so if you are busy with other things I would not recommend taking her class.
This was not an easy class but Professor Bender is a great choice! 4 exams & cumulative final, all of which were challenging and very detail oriented. But despite the class being hard she was SO nice and helpful when I wasnt understanding the material! She sat with me in office hours until I was able to explain it to her and wants you to do well!
This was a great class, difficult but great. Professor Bender cares so much and wants everyone to succeed. I would highly suggest taking her for this class. She wants everyone to come to her office hours to help figure out ways to improve. Her lectures are very good and she always includes examples for you to understand the material better.
You guys... her class is SO HARD. Her exams are literally impossible. They are very specific and each questions has options A-F which include multiple answers per letter choice. there are not many points besides the exams so it is really hard to bring your grade up from a bad exam. Try to do well in lab I guess...
Professor Bender was AMAZING. Yes, it is tough class but if you dont want a tough class dont be in a medical major. I spend about the week before writing all of her notes from lecture into the learning objectives she gives you and i have gotten above a 93 on every exam thus far. IF you do the learning objectives its not hard. She is legit AWESOME
She was a really great professor. The class is a lot of memorization, but she gives you tricks and tools to help with it. You have to read the textbook and fill out notes before you get to class and she doesn't post the powerpoints online, so show up to class. She also gives practice tests before the exam which are super helpful. Easy to approach.
Professer Bender is very nice and helpful but her test are to detailed, and complicated which makes it immpossible to get a descent grade in the class. I feel like her class is for people who are in pre med and nursing
Took Bender for cadaver lab, and she made it so fun. The class itself takes work and outside studying, but she was FANTASTIC in class. She posted Powerpoint slides if we wanted them printed for class, which helped SO much for notes, and she was clear on how she would test us. Accessible outside of class, and quick to respond to emails!
I have very mixed feelings about Professor Bender; she is very passionate and caring for her students, but her exams are extremely and unnecessarily difficult. Shes great if you have the time to study every single day, but if you don't have the time to put in the commitment, the grade will not be great. Choose her wisely if you can, great person.
Professor Bender was a great professor! She is very passionate and loves what she does. If you need help she is easy to get a hold of an office house should be utilized. However, this class in general is really hard, her exams were probably a little to hard in my opinion especially because of how she worded them. You NEED to know everything.
Prof Bender is extremely passionate about this subject, so much so that it can be intimidating to ask questions because her responses make you feel stupid. Her exams are very hard, and you need to devote a lot of study time to them. She is tough, but caring. While she wont boost your grade at all at the end of the semester, she still cares.
She is a good professor but her exams are way too hard because of the wording. She teaches all of the material in a way you will understand, but several hours need to be put in outside of class. She is also very funny and understanding.
Bender is one of the best professors at GVSU. Shes the first person I have ever gone to for office hours and have had real life talks with. The class is hard. There is no sugar coating that, but as a science major you know what you are signing up for. She is the best professor to teach this course, try to get her.
BMS 291 is a difficult class no matter which professor you take. The assignments are mostly the same and so are the quizzes. Bender is a nice lady but does a poor job of emphasizing the most important parts of the lecture, and grades tough. My advice is to take a different professor because it will be easier to get a good grade.
I am her biggest fan!! Bender is absolutely incredible. This class was far more challenging than 250 because of the content, but she made it so enjoyable. She is so knowledgeable and won't move on in lecture until she answers all questions. She is the kindest, funny, and wants you to do well if you out in the work. Switch now if you don't have her!
Bender's notes are very clear and specific. As long as you go to every lecture, she tells you everything you need to know and gives you every possibility of succeeding.
Dr Bender is the best anatomy professor at GVSU. Super nice and easy to talk to during office hours. Provides material in a way to understand it and easy to grasp. Tons of info, but its anatomy so thats a given. She goes out of her way to make sure students are understanding the material and willing to help out if you ask.
I am taking professor for BMS 251. Professor Bender is a TOUGH GRADER and will likely not help you if you have questions. Expect to teach yourself a lot in this class, and use your classmates for resources and help. Pros: - Options for extra and bonus points - Good at using Lecture Notes Cons: - EXTREMELY HARD GRADER - Poor at giving help
Professor Bender gives you print out notes with specific learning objectives. THESE LEARNING OBJECTIVES ARE YOUR STUDY GUIDE. LEARN THEM THOROUGHLY AND YOU HAVE AN A!! She gives flowcharts for students to do at their leisure, plays Kahoot in lecture for practice, and gives case studies to help students solidify information. Great professor.
Regardless of which Prof you take for BMS 208, it is a demanding and tough course. However, Prof. Bender is a phenomenal teacher! (honestly probs one of the best in the BMS dept.) I would highly recommend taking BMS 208 with Prof. Bender. She goes out of her way to make lectures fun, interactive, and entertaining. Very accessible outside of class
This is a hard course regardless, but she's great! She explains well and gives you notes to print off before class, sometimes you have to fill in things before too. Make sure you keep up with the material or you'll be overwhelmed. Lots of things due online, so make sure you write the dates down!!
Professor Bender is great at teaching anatomy. She wants her students to succeed and keeps class very interesting. She does fun activities to make sure everyone is retaining the information she is teaching. I highly recommend her class.
Loved the way Bender through this class. She truly made sure everyone was able to learn the material! The course content was very hard, but if you put in the work it'll be ok. The class is mainly graded on quizzes and test and is very time consuming. She is so nice and easy to talk to. Overall amazing professor!
She is very sweet and funny. Also very knowledgable on anatomy. The subject is hard and lots of memorization but she provides great memory ques and some extra credit. Tests are all multiple choice and usually 10 ish fill in the blank. Her note packets are helpful and has her students best interests in mind. Online homework and quizzes are managable
Professor Bender is one of THE best at GVSU. I took BMS 251 online for 6 weeks, it was hard, but totally possible to end with an A in this class, you just have to put forth a lot of effort. Bender is ALWAYS available outside of class and truly cares about her students. I wish she taught more because I would definitely take a class with her again!
Exams are worth 80% of the grade and she doesn't give you much help. The homework that she requires is hardly worth points at all.
Do NOT take her hybrid. She is beyond strict on all of her policies. I quote I have never given so many zeros in my life. She has no sympathy for anyones situation and does not work with students at all. She has no desire to make sure that students are successful in her class. Take anyone but her
Worst Prof ever. Transfer her to the honor's college because she does nothing but load you with work that you're busy cramming to get done rather than actually learning. She expects you to know everything, and she will exam on everything. She has no sympathy for students either, so good luck trying to negotiate with her cause she won't budge.
If your online/Hybrid DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. Tests are taken on lockdown browser and she says she gives out lots of zeros, it makes taking the test 10x harder bc youre forced to focus on every movement you make. She will mark you down if you spell anything wrong, theres tests every other week while u only attend class once a week.
We went through material realllyyy fast but I think thats just how the class is. I struggled a lot because the material was just very hard for me. Lots of memorizing. Professor Bender really cares that you do well and was very helpful when I went to her office hours or went to go over an exam.
this isn't my first anatomy class I've taken but it definitely wasn't the worst. these classes are very hard. you will be in your room for days studying. Professor Bender made it as easy as possible with almost no homework at all and a very caring easy going attitude. her lectures were straight to the point and easy to understand. i recommend her
Professor Bender was a great professor. Although having lab online is sometimes difficult, her videos were easy to follow and she outlined exactly what would be on the quiz. As long as you keep up with the weekly work this class is easy.
There's a lot of material but you'll do well if you keep up. She has a lot of completion assignments that help a lot with studying, and she is really nice and helpful if you ask questions. Also chances for extra credit. Only tough part is lockdown browser for exams. For how hard the class is I'd definitely recommend her!!!!
Anatomy is hard no matter who you take, but Bender makes the class very enjoyable and interesting. She gives great lectures and is so willing to help you succeed. She gives you all the materials you need to succeed in this class, you just have to be willing to put in the work. Take her if you want to actually learn anatomy in an interesting way!!
Take her. She is the best professor I've had. When she tells you at the beginning its going to be a lot she is not wrong. I did not take this so seriously b/c I took anatomy in high school, so I thought I would be okay. I was wrong and now I have to re take it to get a better grade and I will be taking it again with her cause she is the best.
Anatomy is a hard course no matter who you take, but with exams almost every 2 weeks, it felt impossible to learn or even retain any material. She is a super sweet lady, but the class especially being hybrid/online was impossible. To get a decent grade, you'll need to study every note packet she gives you. If you're not ready to study, don't take.
Bender is a great person. This class is hard and there is more than enough work, but she really tries to make it the easiest she can. The exams are really tough but there is never any homework. If you study a ton then you should have no problem!
Professor Bending was really nice & very knowledgable on the course but you definitely have to try really hard in her class. Her exams are very specific and you have to really put in effort into it to succeed. I think I could have done better if I had better time management, but overall I enjoyed having her as a professor.
she is seriously awesome, this course is so hard but she really teaches you everything. you need to do everything she hands you, and be ready for lots of hard studying but it is worth it and you will pass
Bender is truly passionate about what she does. Anatomy is a tough class but she makes sure you truly learn from the class and aren't just memorizing. Her teaching style is built to help you build off the past units. She definitely makes you work for your grade but as long as you put in the time and effort you will be fine. Best 208 prof for sure.
Professor Bender is an amazing professor for labs! Her tests aren't that difficult but are anatomy heavy, if you struggle with identification get ready to study.
Prof. Bender gives very good lectures and her exams are pretty fair. You definitely have to study and memorize a lot to do well on the exams, but it's not too bad. She does move very fast though and there is a ton of detailed material. I recommend going to class. She also gives out a couple extra credit points each unit! Overall, I'd recommend!
Prof Bender was one of the best I have ever had. Yes, anatomy is hard and you won't pass if you don't put in the work but her exams were all very straight forward. If you studied the learning objectives you should get an easy A. She also gives out SO many extra credit points. If you need to take BMS 208, take it with Bender, you won't regret it.
Professor Bender is one of my favorite professors. Her class is lecture heavy, but her lectures are super easy to stay engaged. Anatomy is a hard class so you should expect homework and lot of studying. Study a little bit every day and you will do great. Take her class if you have the opportunity!
BMS251 is a tough class that requires a lot of studying in order to understand the material. Her exams were quite a bit harder than my BMS250 exams, but her final exam was seriously easy. She gives clear learning objectives with each unit, weekly quizzes you can use notes on, and is very available to answer questions and help her students.
Prof Bender is the BEST! Her class is lecture heavy BUT she makes them worth the watch. She cares about your success and will help in any way she can. The course work is manageable but make sure to study a little bit each day and put in the work! Anatomy is hard but Prof Bender makes it fun and interesting. She also gives out EC each unit!
Cadaver lab is for sure a difficult class. I've learned so much from Prof. Bender and absolutely love her! She undoubtably cares about student success. With that being said, prepare to work hard in this class. Utilize the tutor lab and pay attention in class. With enough time spent outside of the classroom, it's possible to do well.
Prof Bender was amazing. She makes her lectures really interesting and engaging. It is ALOT of note-taking and the course is very fast-paced, but I thought her exams were very fair, and they were all multiple choice. You can tell she loves to teach and she really wants her students to succeed. I could not recommend her enough!
Professor Bender was an amazing professor, she gave us in-class assignments that allowed us to engage with our classmates, but, her exams are so incredibly hard. There are 7 answer choices that made me second guess myself a lot while test-taking. If you want to get a good grade in this class I wouldn't take her but do if you want to learn a ton!
BMS 208 is a very hard class, however, Professor Bender was very clear on what was expected of you. If you skip lectures, tests and exams are going to be extremely difficult for you. Go to class and spend several hours a week studying for this class. Barely any homework, however exams were pretty stressful. You will have to take a lot of notes!
Good at teaching material. But very tough grader
Professor Bender is one of the best profs I have ever had. I took her for 208 and was excited to have her again for cadaver. She sets up her classroom so there's a little bit of lecturing but you get the chance to have hands on experience and she does a good job of making sure you understand what you are looking at. Would definitely recommend!
Anatomy is a hard class, but Professor Bender is amazing! She gives great lectures and really wants you to understand the content. Would recommend her to anyone for anatomy!
I absolutely loved Professor Bender for Cadaver lab (BMS 309). The class is very tough on its own, you need to put in a good amount of work studying and reviewing but Bender is an excellent professor. She is very approachable if you have questions, she is fun in class and just overall explains things very well. I would 10000% take her again!
This is my second time taking a class with Bender & I truly think she is the best professor at GV. I learned so much in this class and had a great time because she made lab enjoyable. It is a difficult class with a lot to remember but so worth it, especially with her.
Too much work for 200 class, literally assignment before each class, and a lot more assignments within the semester. Generally, not bad. She explains nice, just a lot of content and work to do. No help with exam preparations.
Professor Bender is an AMAZING woman! yes, the class is hard but she really does everything in her power to help you and makes time outside of class to extra help. The class is test heavy with smaller homework assignments and rare EC. But if you study for the exams, they are pretty straightforward with no surprises. Take Bender!
I had professor Bender for lab and she did an amazing job of explaining what we needed to know and going over the material. The lab is graded on very few things so be sure to study for the weekly quizzes, midterm, and final!
BMS 309 is a difficult class but take it with Bender!!!!! She explains everything so well and is very clear on what she expects. She is extremely kind and truly cares about all of her students. I wish I could take another class with her!
Great professor! Go to class and don't slack on the first exam like I did!
Take this class w/ Bender! Great explanations in her lectures. Many assignments, but they all contribute to understanding content and staying on track. Exams are open paper note (not electronic) through Proctorio. Adds in many reassuring "...and if you don't know what that is yet, that's ok! We'll go over that...". Would definitely take again.
Professor Bender is the best - I've taken BMS 251 twice now and she was beyond helpful. She is extremely passionate and personable. She will always work with you to ensure you're successful. This is a hard class that is graded on few things - but she helps make it manageable. She is truly someone you can go to for anything!
Professor Bender is super helpful and gives clear explanations each lab! The material in this lab is difficult to learn but her explanations and extra learning materials she posts are amazing.
Human anatomy is hard for a reason. There is so much material but prof Bender makes it so much better. She's a mom so she's very caring and understanding. She wants you to succeed. Unlike other profs, she tells you when things are due and what to watch out for. Brings good energy and makes the lectures fun. Great prof.
TAKE BENDER! This was my second time taking this class, and I was worried because my first time taking this class did not go so great, but she was amazing! She provided amazing, clear lectures and was very clear on what to expect on exams. This class is very hard in general and very lecture heavy, but she is very reassuring. Wish she taught 290!
Anatomy is a hard class so treat it as such. There were exams every other week. The material seems easy but it builds quickly. You NEED to understand concepts instead of just memorizing material. My biggest tip would be to study as the week progresses instead of cramming. Also, complete objectives when finishing each unit lecture.
She is super nice and very passionate about the class!! Gives GREAT explanations and tips for exams if you ask questions. Your grade is only made up of 4 exams and every class period is crucial. This is a difficult class with a lot of terms but she makes it fun!
This lab was very difficult and required a LOT of studying. However, the professor did a great job teaching and the class set up was extremely clear. If you are willing to put the work in, this class should go fairly well.
BMS 208 is hard. But- Professor Bender is the one I would take for any anatomy. She was always willing to tell you anything she could to make the class easier. While she had a lot of homework and exams, as long as you went to lecture and studied you would be fine.
BMS 208 is an extremely hard class. But Bender does the absolute most to help you succeed. If you have the option, TAKE HER you wont regret it
I only had professor Bender for lab, but she was great. She is very clear with her explanations.
Bender's BMS208 is no easy feat, but her clear lectures and genuine support make it doable. Consistent study using the textbook and tools like unstuckstudy are key to success. Attend class, stay engaged, and this challenging course can be conquered.
Professor Bender is truly an angel. I had her for both 250 and 251 lab and she really is amazing. Posts extra practice material each week after the lab, grades fast, is super kind and approachable, and always keeps her door open if you have questions or need help. Seriously, she is amazing, I would recommend her to anyone.
Great Prof. Had her for lab and she was very easy going and willing to work with anyone. Just study the pre-labs well and pay attention and you'll do just fine.
BMS 208 is a challenging class but I would recommend taking it with Bender. My biggest piece of advice would be to study!! Tests are challenging and make up most of your grade but are all from lecture notes. Be prepared to put in a lot of time with this class in order to succeed. Overall, Bender is very caring and the best professor for this course
Professor Bender was great, the class itself is extremely difficult but as long as you study a bit everyday, you'll be fine. Do NOT cram study, I got a 69% on the first exam and then changed my studying habits and ended with an A-. She structures lectures and notes to be exactly like what you will see on the exams. Don't skip class!
If you want an easy class, this isn't it. If you want to truly understand the material with an amazing professor, you're in the right place. She is the BEST anatomy professor, full stop. She does all she can to help you succeed, the rest is up to you. Best advice would be to make a study group and study a little everyday.
She's great! She gives lecture notes that are very easy to follow. Study the LO's and you'll be fine. She gives amazing study tips, cares for her students, and I definitely recommend meeting with her outside of class. She does exam reviews, and is really helpful when explaining why things are right or wrong, and correcting your study methods. Take!
Dr.Bender was amazing. You can really see the passion she has for the course. The way she structures the class helped my learning, and meeting with her during office hours to review exams and discuss study tips helped me succeed in the course. I 100% would recommend her to future anatomy students.
LOVEEE prof bender! this class is hard, but she makes it so much better. i had her for lab and i actually really enjoyed going because of her. she is super sweet and personable. she helps out a lot with questions and makes it clear what you need to know for quizzes/how to study effectively
It's a hard class, but it's very possible to get an A if you stay on top of your work. She teaches in a hybrid style, with one lecture in class and an online lecture to do over the weekend. The other day in class is a group work assignment. If you did the online lecture, you should get a free 4 points. 80% of your grade is made up of exams.
Prof Bender cares about her students a lot. She talks super fast during lecture. Her exams are a wake-up call compared to BMS250 so be prepared to study beyond the notes. She makes the exams very difficult. I recommend going to her office hours to review them. There are 4 unit exams and 1 final. Class is difficult but you will learn a lot.
Genuinely the sweetest woman I have ever met. Wants you to succeed, gives helpful study tips as long as you go to office hours, makes lectures super engaging and funny. Tough subject in general but if you pay attention and go to class she helps you through it. Many chances for extra credit and the final is worth less than regular lecture exams.
She is an amazing professor. I have her at 10am right now and I don't dread going to her class. She is funny and cares about her students. Attendance isn't mandatory for a grade, but that's how you get the lecture notes. She is very kind and is helpful in office hours. Tests are a bit difficult but the material is all memorization. STUDYYYYY!!!!
This anatomy course is difficult with challenging tests and a large amount of content covered in one semester. That being said, Professor Bender is extremely caring and knowledgeable on the content, and offers lots of resources for learning the material. Study more than expected, utilize Professor Bender, and you will succeed!
Attendance not mandatory but I never skipped a lecture
I loved professor bender as a lab professor. She explained everything in ways that were easy to understand. She is also really fun to talk to!
She's not a bad person, but the class structure is rough. Lectures move extremely fast and don't clearly emphasize what will matter on the exams. You end up having to study way beyond what's taught in class, which makes the exams feel unfair. You'll learn a lot, but be prepared for difficult exams and a lot of self-teaching.
She's nice but a very tough and strict grader, don't misspell anything and use the entire name of everything. Got a question wrong because I put 'sacral crest' not 'medial sacral crest' we didn't even talk about any other sacral crests in lecture... wouldn't even give me a half point :'(
Dr. Bender is so amazing!!! She is hilarious and excellent at explaining the concepts. She gave us time to write and then explained and made sure we understood before moving on. 251 is difficult, but she makes it manageable. Exams are detailed, but fair and follow the learning objectives. I highly recommend her over other BMS professors!
This class is all memorization. Memorize at least 80-90% of the content for each exam, and you'll get an A. There are some small details that show up on exams, but she emphasizes what they are, so make sure to really pay attention and write down everything she says in lecture. What I did to get an A: pay attention, study notes (memorize), use APR.
Dr. Bender is funny and communicative and makes BMS251 somewhat enjoyable. Her lectures are clear and paced well for the most part. Some assignments are difficult and frustrating to understand but are very helpful in checking understanding. Exams contain significant detail, but are manageable as long as you study and understand the full concepts.
