She was kinda cool in a way, but her class was HARD and I don't think she liked me because I wasn't as smart as the rest of the honors students. Bleh. Sometimes she talked about crap that made no sense and was totally irrelevant.
I thought she was a witch! I am a female, but her man bashing comments drove me crazy. She does not care what other people think, and shows that attitude. she said rude things about people all the time.
Spends too much time talking about drinking and partying; results in very little class time
I couldn't stand this class. I did not learn anything about history, but I did learn a lot about her life, that's for sure. As an honors class, it was very hard, but I felt the assignments were unclear and everything about going to that class wa painful.
Have you ever thought that she just tries to provide a different environment than a typical class? Isn't that what honors is about? Seems like typical elitist arrogance on the part of a lot of honors students (yes, I am one).
great teacher
hon 151 was tough, but it was different from any other class. 152 was much much better. you learn more than just history. she will help you with just about anything, doesn't matter what. she's really cool and i will definately miss her class.
good teacher, gives essays prior to test, as well as mc questions. Tests are based off of notes, very little text
She talked more about partying and drinking than history. We spent the whole class time talking about a presidential debate once and ended up having to learn about three chapters on our own before the test. I would not recommend this teacher.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. Class was for an hour and 15 min. she talked about nothing for an hour. I learned nothing in this class, a waste of my time.
She is a wonderful teacher, who really treats the class as college level. So don't take it if you need someone to hold you hand on assignments. She actually gets to know her students and creates a fun, friendly atmosphere. Her classes were 2 of my best.
She is a nice person and very fun her test are just evil. I am never sure what to study. if you have the work book do it.. topics to get her off track. Politics, God, just the goverment in general :) good luck her class kicked my butt i am glad its over!
CIV 102 and CIV101
She is a super cool person, and takes the time to know her students which is great. However, the tests are really hard because you don't know what to study. I pulled a b out of the class and considered myself lucky. I'm glad its over

Very hard tests. She is Ok but can be rude at times. There are easier teachers.
Wonderful Class. It's very hard but if you have the right attitude and talk during class she will love you. Just have an idependent mind and ask questions. Tests are very hard but she tells you the essays before hand and it's all covered in notes. ITS NOT THAT DIFFICULT.

She is a very hard teacher who likes to get off subject. The only good thing about her is that she likes to give extra credit but it doesnt matter because the test will kick your ass. Dont take her!!! There are alot more easier professors then her!!

While not attending a physical class, I can still apply some input. Online, she is very unclear about processes to submit tests, essay assignments are not always consise with the material, web site reviews are ignorant and non-educational. Very abusive reply in her e-mail to me. Do not take online

Awfully abusive to students AND staff. Rude beyond belief. Scornful. Hateful. B***h. Do not take her.
i took her for 101 and 102. She's demanding in the fact that you have to do your workbook and go to class, but she gives you a major heads up what is on tests. Shes constantly offering extra credit. sit in front. go to her office for help! i strongly recomend her!!! you will enjoy it. go to class!:)

enjoyed the class She gets a little off subject, but it keeps the class interesting. gives out tons of extra credit which is really helpful for your grade. tests are not that bad if you prepare even the slightest. I got an A no problem. I'd recommen her She's blunt and honest the people who cannot handle that are usu the ones who do not like her.

Don't expect to pass this class unless Dr. Carpenter likes you or your friends in the class. She plays favorites like its her job. She won't help you at all and she'll come in late every day. Avoid her at all costs.

Great Teacher
She gives you everything that is going to be on the test. She's also a really nice person and she's funny. I don't know what all these other people are talking about!
horible teacher for an online class if you have a question about the weeks asignment and email it to her she doesnt get back to you untill a week after the assignment was already due. is unclear about how she grades and what she is looking for in papers i would never take her for anything ever again
She is a great professor. She helps her students if they are willing to go the extra mile to learn.
She is friendly and easily distracted, she gives you all the information needed for each test, but she is a hard grader because of that, so the essay is hard. She gives you a lot of extra credit oppurtunities, I would recommend her out of all the civ teachers
Horrible teacher. Coming to class was a complete waste of time. Never started talking about class material until about 30 minutes into class. Lecture was hard to follow, no outlines. Grades are somewhat subjective according to how well she knows you and if you laugh at her jokes. My advice: BUY THE BOOK AND STUDY GUIDE! YOU'LL NEED THEM!!!

She is the worst I have ever had!!! She doesn't post assignments until weeks later and is very unclear about how she grades. The work load is ridiculous! The most completely pointless class i have ever had. Do not take her for anything!! You will be doing tons of pointless, time consuming work!!
OK, she's helpful during quiz time, and she graded the 3-5 pg paper gently (only because she had "so much to do!"), but when it comes to tests, watch out! She can be such an anal ****. Sorry. She does give a lot of extra credit though. Maybe she's not all bad.

Yes, she's blunt. Yes, she's rude. But the extreme incompetence with which she attempts to do her job render these things tragic, at least for students. Ignorance + arrogance = failure
I know her professionally, so I can shed some additional light on her attitude and abilities--both stink. Working with people and thinking analytically are clearly not her strengths. Many have observed that she's ill-suited for a faculty position at MSU. Too many intellectual limitations and too much emotional baggage. It's tragic, really.
Horrible person and teacher.....She has no regard for other people and couldn't care less if a student learns or not. She is only here for a paycheck. She was never on time to a class and always late on returning assignments. I wouldn't take her for anything..
I love her class, true that she is never on time. Big Deal!!! I like her personality, people that don't like her are people that like to be spoonfed. Welcome to College!!! She is extremely helpful during exams and quizzes. If you ask her a question in the middle of any exam she will tell you the answer. Now that is great!!
Dr. Carpenter is amazing. I know that there are alot of people who really don't like her, but i can't find one bad thing to say. She is a fantastic teacher who knows her stuff and doesn't hesitate to help you if you ask. And, if that wasn't enough, she is a veritable fount of information on how to write a paper. she's a perfect teacher this!

Dr. C is a great teacher. She isn't easy, so if you are looking for an easy A...don't even think about taking her classes. But she is very helpful and as one of her advisees I feel I couldn't have made it through college so easy without her guidance. People who get on her bad side just don't do there work.

Shes a very laid back person and very nice. She gets off topic easily and is always late to class but lets you out on time. Even though she is late she never really starts until 20mins or 30 mins into class. Sometimes never finishes what she was talking about. Wouldn't take her again or tell someone to take her. Esp if you hate history.
Dr. Carpenter is not as bad as people say. She is late for class and doesn't start until 20 minutes into the class. But she is extremely helpful and gives you most of the test questions before the test. Offers alot of extra credit and lets you know how much you need for an A. I would definitly take her again.

Don't be scared of her; she isn't mean or hypocritical.She is straight up with all of her students;treat her with respect, she'll do the same. Easy tests, students choose essay and IDs for test the week before.If you miss class just be honest because she's not stupid.Late everyday and converses half the class, but very knowledgeable in her field
I took her last semester. She was always late to class and yea we did'nt start the lecture until 30 min in but she never kept us later I like her alot. Kept Class Intresting.Gives out a lot of extra credit. Tests not hard if you study she gives you IDs before the test. Would Take her Again!
Looking back at my time at Murray State from my current post in grad school I can honestly say she is the worst professor I have ever had...EVER. It is true she is constantly late and would rather talk about random nonsense than lecture. I am not sure how she was hired, but its a blackeye to the History department in my opinion.
Shows up late to class every time but lets us out on time. Gives you the essay and the ID's before the test. Very willing to talk to you after class and gives out a LOT of extra credit! LOVED her teaching style because its laid back and she makes history kinda interesting when she adds her opinion. I normally make C's and I am making an A!
GREAT Teacher, if you wanna get A in her class, four things you have to do attend on time, participate, study the essay and ID'S before the test, last thing don't use excuses
She is a great teacher, i highly suggest her to anyone. She has a big heart. If you need help with anything she will be there, gives ALOT of extra credit oppprtunities. All you have to do is go to class, be on time, act interested and study I.D.'s. If you need help with anything she'll help ya! I highly suggest taking her!!
Very helpful teacher, especially for International students who face difficulties with understanding the BIG textbook of Civ class. She is very nice I HIGHLY recommend her if you have to take this class, especially I recommend you take her in the summer, so she will not cover as many chapters as she does in the normal semesters.
Will waste your time while she brags about catching students in lies. Constantly repeats to "not get on her bad side or else." In other words she treats you like a child. Can't seem to get over herself and will drive you crazy with her attitude. I can't stress enough how she'll waste your time! Take anyone but her for HIS 300.
I loved this class. She is very down-to-earth. The atmoshphere is very comfortable and relaxing. She really made learning civ fun. She tells you exactly what is going to be on the test word-for-word. She gives easy quizes once a week. She assigns a ton of extra credit. Pretty much, as long as you show up and take notes, you'll be fine.
She is always late,but lets the class out on time. She wastes ALOT of class time talking about off the wall topics and talking about her students in other classes. She is not willing to help everyone, only a select few. I would not recommend her at all. She can't seem to get over herself to teach her students.
Had her for this class a while back and it was probably the toughest class I had. Gets off track pretty easy. Generally in a bad mood for some reason or another. Heard her say from her own mouth that too many people were in one of her classes and that she was going to make things more difficult in order to make people drop!!!!
I had Dr. Carpenter for CIV 101 and 102, she is an excellent instructor. She tells you EXACTLY whats on each test and assigns a ton of extra credit stuff. It is hard to not make at least a "B" in her class. Her lectures aren't boring. I got an "A" in both of her classes. So easy.
She is a really good teacher. She knows her stuff well. I took her for both 101 and 102. She gives plenty of extra credit to help your grade. She does tend to be a smartalic, but its easy to look over that. TAKE HER!
If you take her for HIS 300 you will hate life. Hers will be the one class that you have to drag yourself to cursing the entire way. Get ready for her crappy attitude and lack of help. There's a reason that Mulligan's class is overflowing and she barely has anyone. Avoid the agony and take anyone but her.
You could boil everything she says in one class session down to about 5 sentences. But she will ALWAYS keep you the entire time with her babbling. She doesn't fit in with our other high caliber history professors.

she is a completely spiteful. class is boring. she skips around all over the place. Her papers are bogus and the class was a complete waste of my time. and "DONT GET ON HER BAD SIDE OR ELSE" she constantly reminds you of this during class.
In this class you have to try extremely hard just to be an average student. I feel as though sometimes my tuition money is going to just listening to her bash other students. I wish that she would stop putting down other students and start teaching us. This is a good class if you want to work hard and read a lot.
I had her for CIV I & II. She is Awwwwesome Professor, Open-minded, I love her and I would also take her for anything. Rmember it's CIV class and follow exactly what she said.
I enjoyed this class for the most part. Attendance is mandatory. I would like to take the second half of this class with her because I feel that is where her specialty lies. She likes to talk so take her on a Tues/Thurs so has plenty of time to talk, then get her whole lecture.
Great teacher and a wonderful person!Her classes are never boring and i learned a lot about CIV and more.She is not afraid to speak her mind and will help you a lot,but like any real class you can expect to sit around and do nothing yet still pass.the teacher is a guide and not there to push you on through. your laziness is your own problem!!!
Great class if you'd like to work your tail off without really knowing exactly what she expects. Spent 25 hours writing a paper, recieved a C. Exams: unbelievably hard. Not a bad person, but a incompetent professor. I thought college professors were supposed to help prepare you for the real world, not condemn you regardless of how hard you try.
DO NOT TAKE HER! Don't say you were not warned. She is mean spirited and the antithesis of what one expects in a college professor. She berates students, and comes unprepared for lectures. MSU is a fabulous institution and this professor is an embarrassment to the entire History Department. Please take my warning & tell your friends. AVOID HER!
She is tough, but fair. Do your work, attend class, and have fun with her. She is a straight shooter who doesn't take any BS. She knows what she's talking about. Take notes, read over the chapters, and you will be ok.

Love this teacher! She knows her stuff very well. She is very helpful with finding sources for the paper you have to write. Her test are not difficut at all because she tells you exactly what is on them. She is very funny and keeps class interesting. Make sure you come to class and DONT use your cell phone!
Prof. Carpenter seems like as a whole, she is a nice person. But, she has a really bad habit of coming off rude. Yes, she doesn't take BS and she is outspoken. But when it comes to students, she is not afraid to make someone look like a complete jackass. She DOES know what she is talking about as far as history. I'll give her that.
This professor was absolutely horrible, by far the worst I have had my 4 semesters at MSU. Expectations unclear, says one thing, does the other. Spends most the time talking about her political views (trashes the other side)and about drinking and partying. Tends to put down students. Consider yourself warned about her.
Absolutely loved taking Dr. Carpenter for this class. Probably the best history class I've taken at Murray. Tests are easy because she tells you exactly what is expected. Go to class and pay attention and you'll get a good grade

She talks a lot about herself. She can be nice but she's very judgmental. Dropped the class because I couldn't understand her and was doing terrible in the class. Her lectures are extremely boring and she doesn't go in order with what is in the text book.
If you want to become a University History professor, take her class instead of Mulligan's. She's hard but helpful when it comes to research and while she does talk about her personal life a lot, she can be a sweet lady. You will walk out of the class knowing how to do research -- an extremely useful thing to know if you aim to be a historian.
Wonderful teacher, I love her lectures. Tests are hard but she tells you everything on the exams. I love her and would take her classes for life; though she is very honest so I am afraid to ask her for help sometimes. Pay attention to her lectures and SPEAK!
