Very detailed coursework. If you do the work, you'll learn a lot in the course. She usually has a very valuable lesson plan. A great foundation for future writing coursese at WSU.
She was so unhappy and stuck on politics that she forgot it was an english class not a political science class!
I really enjoyed this teacher. Stephanie really pushed you to try new things and excell in it. If you didn't want to give more than 100%, then the class did suck because you didn't get anything out of it...but if you pushed, the rewards were great!!

She thinks she is a lot smarter than she actually is. Remember she only as a Masters degree, not a Ph.D., and only graduated with B.A. and Masters a few years ago. She does not have the qualifications to be a good professor.
This woman is a JOKE! I took advance comp w/her and didn't learn ANYTHING. She's definitely a disgrace to WSU. She should be teaching second grade, not on the university level.

Want a direct quote from at least half of my class last quarter? "I hate her." enough said?
Saying the class can choose what to write is a pretense. We had to write memoirs despite not voting for them. This is her ENG102 class all over again.
I don't know, there is just something about her that rubs me the wrong way. She tries to say that she is open to ideas, but gets upset and defensive if you disagree with her. Alot of useless writing, although it is an English class, so I can't complain.
She lies to the class to make things appear how she wants them to appear. Her Language of War class she turned into a Bush bashing class. She spends to much time over grading papers and she is obsessed with plagerism. Not everyone is a plagerist!!!
I am so glad this class is over. It is one of the most boring classes I've ever taken. I have not learned one thing in this class that I didn't already learn from ENG101/2 except perhaps what not to do as a future teacher.
She actually told the class to expect to fail. She thinks that is funny, and who cares what it does to your GPA? I turned in every paper, including extra credit, got decent scores, and still failed. i spent 3-4 hours every night doing her assignments!
This teacher needs to be put in her place. She does not teach but dictates. You have no freedom of speech and your opinion does not count. She will ask the class to vote on a grading system and then change your scores if they do not suit her.
Took Honors English: The Language of War, should have been called Political Science: Appeasing a Tyrannical Leader. VERY biased, enough to fail some just on beliefs alone. If you are not a liberal, DO NOT TAKE. Even if you are, I still wouldn't.
If Dickey is teaching a course that you absolutely need, try to find another teacher. She is a hardcore liberal, dictates the class and grading, though she claims she gives student choice, and her grading is completely inconsistent. Get on her good side

She totally sucks
Pretends students have choice but steers things so you have to write a memoir. This class was a repeat of her ENG102 class. She's fine for 102 but taught me nothing new this time.
She was too mean and cold-hearted. She had no sympathy with anybody. Even though she makes students better writers, I would not recommend her. My GPA went from 3.7 down to 3.1 after taking her class.
I was glad she told us what to do because our class never agreed on anything anyway. She told us to compare our writing at the beginning and the end...I was amazed at the difference and didn't realize how much work I actually did. TONS of homework.
Not a difficult teacher, she can be kind of annoying but I thought it was an overall easy class.
Very difficult, which is fine, but, she doesn't explain anything. Seems to enjoy making you come home and do work for her class every night. The big joke in our class was she had no life and for entertainment she sits around grading papers! Really! There was that much work everynight, unreal!

Give her a break, she requires a lot of work but is willing to spend the same amount of time you do to get the job done. It's a political science class diquized as an English class for you political buffs.

this is a pointless class. you have busy work homework every night. she didnt teach very well and she grades very tough. her grading scale is messed up too. she doesn't give B's or D's on homework, only A's, C's, and F's. don't take this class.
her 3 big papers overlap so you cant be focused on just one at a time, and she gives busy work homework, there is an assignment due every monday wednesday and friday that have nothing to do with our papers, attendance counts, and cant miss any assigements. basically-2 many rules and shes a #^%*%
She just isn't very good. This is a class for FUTURE TEACHERS and she made everybody so mad - seems to teach this class very much like her entry level eng 101/102 classes. Very passive/aggressive.
Her directions are very unclear. Make sure you schedule conferences wtih her periodically for your papers...that way you will know what to do when your portfolio is due. Ask a lot of questions...she's not very clear about anything.
The work overlaps and she made the presentations more complicated than they should have been. Too much pointless busy work assigned along with the overlapping major papers/presentation.
Beware. She talks a mile a minute. Listen very hard. There will be a due date for her every time you turn around. Very nice person otherwise.
A RISKY Choice. Lots of reading and writing that do not count in the final portfolio. She does make you question a lot of things. She always wants debates, which may be either good or bad depending on who you are. Not a professor for everyone. Recommended only for people who have great debating/arguing/communication skills. Avoid her if possible.
Avoid Dickey for ENG. Highly difficult and complicated. Lots of busy work. None count for final grade. Though the class may be called, "The Language of Justice", there is no justice for a regular student in her class. Your work must be great to get an A, otherwise, you will get a C automatically. No B's or D's. Her class is quite annoying.
This class is just awful. She is so unclear and you never have any idea what your garde is. She tears apart everything you say and even critizes your feelings and reactions to things. I have a straight A average but this class destroyed me.

This class was very time consuming! I had homework for every class meeting; no time for other classes. Try to avoid taking too many classes when you sign up for this one. She is nice and if you have a question about an assignment, she will meet with you after class or during her office hours.
Run while you can! She will contradict everything you say whether it's right or not. Good luck if you are stuck with her.
I am a WSU grad,and I took Dickey my first quarter back as a business professional who quit work to go back to school.I don't recommend her.I clearly had a solid A the entire quarter,yet,I got a B in the class. I asked her why one day and she said my final paper had TOO much info in it. Don't take her classes,you will work your butt of for nothing
This class was awful! There was a paper due the first weekend! And every other weekend after that. Don't take her if you can avoid it! She is very unclear about what she wants and extremely hard!!!!!!!!
Bad teacher.
Teacher sucked. I totally got a "B" in class and ended up with a "D". She said my portfolio was a "D" so that's what my grade is. The portfolio is 75% of the grade. She grades terriable. You get a 3 out of five if you did as much work as she asked for. She Sucks.
I would highly suggest staying away from this professor. I have a straight A average and I'm having trouble keeping up with this class. THe amount of work required borders on the ridiculous. She is a tough grader and her class lectures have no substance. THe students do her job for her. Keep away from her if you want any kind of social life.
She is one of the FEW professors who teach this course, so you probably can't get around taking her. I didn't think she was bad at all. The homework is an EASY way to help your grade. The writing may be difficult, and she is critical of your drafts, but it is to help you improve. Follow her suggestions for editing and you'll be fine.
Surprise, you are expected to do college work in this class! You go over the papers three times before the final papers are due, Plus the class makes the grading scale! On my presentation the class scored me lower than she did! You just have to put in the time with her work. Answer the questions she has on your rough drafts and you will be fine.
Dickey does not like to give A's. She gives bad and unclear assignments. She contradicts herself in grading papers. Dickey is a professor you probably will have to take, but she is not good at clearly assinging papers and projects. Avoid if possible.
The majors papers take up the bulk of the class, pick a topic your intrested in, or you will get very bored, very fast. I think we needed her to look at the major papers more than once before the finals were turned in.
I was not looking forward to this class after reading other reviews...I thought she would be so mean! She is actually very nice and enthusiastic. She expects a lot out of you and you won't get away with BSing in this class...but isn't that a good thing? It was worthwhile; my writing has approved and I am proud of what I did in this class.
Not one student in my class received an A from this teacher. Her grading system makes no sense. She pretends like you get to pick your assignments, but really picks them for you. Also, she lets her openly biased opinions spill over into every "class discussion".
I thought this teacher was very good. She was clear in what she wanted, was a bit tough on grading, but her tough grading was simply a method to make you better at writing. And as one other rater said, the class grades more harshly than she does. DON'T LET THE CLASS GRADE YOUR PROJECTS, LET HER!!!!
I took this class as an honors class, and found the theme very interesting, and the work load is what one would expect in a college-level writing class. As a class, we helped set the goals and criteria for our project and papers and the class as a whole. She has high expectations, but if students want to become better writers this is necessary.
She likes to think she is a full professor, but she only has her master's degree and is not knowledge about the subject. One of the worst professors I ever had in college.

She's SUPER liberal. Grades on this scale: 1=f, 3=c, 5=a. Everyone gets a 3 unless they were way better than everyone else in the class or way worse. Bad cause she started with 40 students and ended with 8 (the 8 willing to compete for a's). i got a c and was pissed. I did my two page papers for every class, but it's tedious. Learn to summeri
Her last name says it all. She will swamp you with pointless busy work. She spits when she talks, so wear a shower cap during lectures. Her grading is incredibly inconsistent. In the end, I easily earned an A but she decided to give me a C. Easily the biggest surprise grade that I was ever awarded in any class at WSU. Avoid like the plague.
She seems like a crazy lady. Nobody in the class really likes her at all. A lot of homework, a lot of global warming, not a lot of learning.
If you can avoid this lady do it!!!!!!! Over worked and undergraded is how I felt. Also not very helpful with questions. If she likes you your in.

Her grading scale of a 1, 3, 5 is ridiculous. She is very hard to communicate with. She tends to talk down to students and even verbally attacks some of them. Changes the syllabus with absolutely no notice, and doesn't even follow her own syllabus. NO class time is spent doing work, all lecture. Avoid her if possible.
Okay, so the class is awful but all of us teachers have to take it. Her personality is nauseating and her grading scale sucks. I got an A by doing all the extra credit and putting a lot of time and energy into my portfolio. You'll dread the class, but most have no problem getting a B in the course. Worst Professor ever by far! She thinks she is smarter and more important than she really is. She assigns papers for every class because she thinks her class is the only thing going on in students lives. Her personality sucks. Drop out of college before taking this class! well ms. stephanie is the hardest professor i have ever had. her grading is ridiculous. you do copious amounts of work for nothing. it is impossible to recieve an a in her class unless you are her. don't take her unless you ABSOLUTELY have to.

Its true. Her grading scale is horrible. Every assignment you either get a 5-awesome 3-normal or 1-fail. You have a paper or more due every day. She's very opinionated. Her procedures are ridiculous. I wish I would have dropped the class. It would have saved me tons of stress. I'm a good student and i couldn't stand her.
She started off seemingly nice, but as the quarter progresses, she starts to pull apart little things in papers and hw. I personally wouldn't recommend if you want to continue being social. I took the honors section and it basically overtook my life. Lots of unecessary work I think. A whole lot to do in a small amount of time. Very stressful class.
I took her class for the first part of the quarter and had to work hard to keep up with the papers in her class. Most of them I didnt really understand but I had to turn them in to get somewhat of a grade. Then there was a death in my family and I missed two classes. I was screwed after just missing those classes.
She is a nice person and I learned a lot in her class. But, the class and homework will kill you. You'll have to work extremely hard to get good grades on your assignments. Too much work;shouldn't be necessary, especially in doing your own research. But, you will come out of the class a much better writer.
I am an English Education Major. I got a perfect score on my SAT writing essay and I was a direct admit into CoLA. English is my thing but I thought I was going to fail this class. This lady is heinous and she thinks this class is like a graduate english class or something. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR 101 or 102! I took the honors portion and I about died.
This is for the comment below that I made. The ONLY reason she has a top clarity rating from me is because her 5-6 page syllabus makes it clear you're selling your soul. I had extreme interest coming into that class because I thought it would be a breeze. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
This teacher is horrible. She is unclear in what she wants, picks apart your papers like crazy, and assigns too much work. My social life was over because of this class, and only this class.
Worst teacher I have ever had. I got a near perfect score on both my AP english tests. I was an English major. No longer. She made me hate it. I was in the honors section.. She also made me never ever want to take a service learning class ever again. Nor will I ever be involved in the WSU food pantry. DON'T TAKE HER, unless you want to hate a life.
Horrific. One of the only c's I have ever gotten in college. When I asked why I got a C on the final project said said because i did everything she asked for on the syllabus, but nothing more. Well what is more if its not defined? Not good
Class is hard but if you do what needs to be done you will get a good grade...class is tough do not take it if you do not want to be challenged.
Very Difficult and lacked clarity or drive to teach, a lot of work that was meant to be done outside of class regarding other classes and work schedules.
This class was terrible. I was stressed the entire quarter because of this one class! We had homework consisting of 2-3 page papers every night and on top of that had to tutor three hours a week. It took up all of my time and caused me to struggle in my other classes. I will never take this professor again. She graded SO hard, it was stressful.
Worst professor ever. Not helpful at all, tries to force her political view on you, and she requires 15 community service hours to pass the class.
She demands an awful lot of time and resourses for her class. She gives a lot of time consuming homework and you have to tutor for her class,as well as write a usless blog. Her grading is very strict and it is not unsual to redo an assignment more than once or twice. I don't think she realizes we have ohter classes besides her's. Nice lady though.
Stephanie is a hard professor. She expects a lot from her students. She is available to help you, but you have to be willing to suggest changes for her to agree or disagree; she won't just tell you what you should do. Hard grading scale, a lot of group work. She is fair to all students & expects the same participation from everyone.
Horrible teacher. Her grading scale absolutely sucks. You can get a 5 (an A), a 3 (automatically a C) or a 1 (an F). I didn't find her helpful at all and she gave a ton of homework every time we had class. I highly recommend not taking any of her classes.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. These scales are from 1 to 5. she doesn't even deserve a 1. So hard to pass. she teaches Honors English and will grade you like her honors classes.
She assigns papers every night which do not seem to hard but when you get your paper back she has murdered it. She lets you rewrite your papers but you will typically get a lower grade on the rewrite. With this teacher be ready to fail because the highest grade in our class of 25 was a D minus
Having taken her ENG102 course a decade ago, she doesn't seem to have any regard for her students, and would just fail them before even looking at their course final project (which she claims accounts for the bulk of the grade). If you value your GPA, you'd be smarter to avoid having her as your instructor at all costs.
She is not aware that we have other classes, the big project will be turned in in stages and she will reject your first stage many times and you will end up getting behind and hating life. DO NOT TAKE

I took her my freshman year and failed. She make you buy a textbook and you will never use it. Her group project was very unclear. Once you get a unsatisfactory on a paper that is your final grade. If you don't understand something she does not explain it. She make you print everything out. in others words DO NOT TAKE HER!!!

She is the only professor I have had a problem with so far. Our entire class struggled just to get C's. She's not very clear on what she wants, and will leave you confused. Large assignments are due almost every class, and the more major papers are graded like AP class papers. Plus, get ready to spend a fortune on printing. Avoid her at all costs.
Simple. Do not take her class. Her expectations of her students are incredibly high and I ended up doing more work in her class than ive done in ochem and lab together. Her course should have been an 8 credit hour course with the amount of time I spent on assignments. Nearly impossible to do well on her papers. I think she just strongly disliked me
Stephanie has no regard for you as a student or what else you may be going through in your daily life. She grades very difficulty, asking you do to one thing and then will change her mind the next time you write it. You must participate in the WORST group project, you depend on other people for your grade and she expects too much. DONT TAKE...
It takes a while to get used to what she expects, but once you know, it's not too bad. She is a tough grader. Has lots of papers that impact your grade. Had designated conference days to review your paper with her. Her feedback was helpful because if you did what she told you to correct, you were good on the final grade.
