Dillon is very petty for no reason. She purposely wants to make her class impossible. We used to know when our answers were correct or right when we put them in the system - she changed that so that it always says were wrong so we 'dont guess'. Chemistry is already a hard subject, why take away easy points...? We are all just trying to pass dude.

All you do is mix a bunch of stuff in a bottle every week, but not before you've had to hand copy the procedure in pen (printers are a thing in 2021), and spend 2 hours trying to figure out what on earth top hat is trying to get you to do. Also, prepare at least $200 for clothes, books and software that have free alternatives or are unnecessary.

I went to office hours every single week & spent so much time working on this ONE credit hour class and still only got a B. Dr. Dillon makes the lab 10x harder than it needs to be, & that was a unanimous opinion between my entire lab. She even changed Tophat so you have no idea if you're doing the prelab correct, as if it wasn't already hard enough

She makes her 1 credit hour class into a 3 credit class. You will be spending many hours a week doing the pre-lab and post lab reports. She will not help you out in any way. Our grades are done through TopHat which is a very broken system. She makes it purposely harder by hiding correct answers on pre lab and provides no feed back to wrong answers.

This was my second semester of having Stephanie Dillon and I can truly say she is the worst. Please stay away from her class at all costs. She is not accessible when needed, and she will never reason with students. She makes her class way more difficult than it needs to be. For lab assignments, she doesn't even let you see if you get answers right.

DIllion is just really rude. The last time we spoke she was telling me how weak she thought my generation was. Even though the class is totally in person she makes us watch all the lectures at home and come prepared to do an online worksheet in class, so don't forget your phone or laptop. Its easy to get behind w online so hold yourself accountable

This class made me rethink my life. It was so hard and there is no room to fall behind. The assignments are overwhelming constantly and just run you over. She is a mean person and does not curve at all. I would take anyone else.

These last few 5 star reviews are probably fake. I had her for CHM 1045 and lab (online), and CHM 1046 L in person. Genuinely the worst professor I had. Moderately easy class. Teach yourself from her recorded lectures and talk with the TAs and LAs as much as you can. They're usually super helpful.

The tophat program that she uses for this lab course is absolutely horrible. You can know exactly how to do a problem in the blink of an eye but will stare at it for 30 minutes deciding whether to put 1, 1.0, or 1.00, because two of those answers are wrong and the assignments are 4 or 5 questions so that is a 75% right there if you choose wrong.

I wouldn't recommend taking Dr. Dillon if you can avoid her. Her Tophat programs are not an accurate metric for what you learn in the lab and can bring your grade down very fast. A very lazy lab professor who doesn't attend labs she's supposed to teach - relies on TAs instead.

She will tell the entire class that they are dumb and will be made fun of for not scoring well on her exams when she herself has not made an exam or practice exam that hasn't had multiple major errors on it. Her own TAs struggle to understand the questions she asks and will find errors she has made while assisting you.

The professor herself is one thing, she is always confused on how to conduct the class since the online homework program we use is always giving us as issue. Then there is this ta who is really loud and obnoxious. He loudly criticizes you thinking its funny and both the professor and this ta make fun of students.

Dillon is the worst of the worst she didn't help at all when you came to her with concerns, she is racist and let three white republican man sit at the top and talk and cheat every test that was taken all the bad reviews are true.

Does not teach in class at all because she is convinced that her "flipped classroom" is the best invention since the wheel. You have to go home and watch an hour of videos and then do an hour of online work that doesn't even have the correct answers loaded in. So even if you do all the busy work, you probably are going to lose some credit.

first C ever as a Senior who is an A student. Her flipped classroom style is stupid and does not benefit students. Only benefits her so she can grab a check for doing nothing. Quiz every class and homework due ever other night. Tests are impossible and the previous exams she gives out are nothing like our tests, she tries to trick us. Awful.

Its a flipped orientation so you virtually teach yourself at home and class time is glorified office hours with a quiz. If you do take it, don't get sick because it was like pulling teeth to get her to remove zeros for the in class work that I didn't do while coughing up my lungs at home. i have so much more to say but not theres a character limit

I think she sucks the soul out of her students to live as long as she is. Absolutely awful professor, the worst I have ever had. She literally bases her exams on how she feels that day and that woman is always in an awful mood. Try to take any other professor but her. The TA/LA are all nice and helpful, and the reviews they make are pretty good.

Although there is some wiggle room in this class, such as 2/6 lowest exams dropped (only have to take 3 if you get a 90+ first attempt), and +5 extra credit on exams for perfect attendance, this class is extremely dense. There are no in-person lectures, so prepare to teach yourself essentially everything, and study a LOT.

Avoid her for biochemistry. She uses a flipped classroom, so there is no lecturing actually done by her, it's just watching videos and doing tons of homework before class. She made it as miserable and challenging as possible. Quizzes every class, online homework & TopHat lectures due the day before, so every day you will be doing biochem. AVOID.

doesnt teach much, minimum three homework assignments a week (1 hour minimum per assignment) this is just to try and grasp new material since you will basically be teaching yourself. All of the "lectures" are compiled youtube videos she has made. Attendance is always mandatory and it is insanely dumb. TA and LA's carry the class.

I have spent more time on youtube in one night than i have spent learning from this professor. If you want to take an online class and still have to show up to every single class meeting to do a bunch of practice problems, this class is for you. All of her "lectures" are online. Attendance is graded, and you do graded homework in every class.

The least considerate profesor I have ever had. She believes that you should live Chemistry. I'm a junior, and for a generic chemistry class this is one of the most tedious classes I have taken. Be prepared to arrive to EVERY class 30 minutes early because of the AT LEAST hour long assignments EVERY. SINGLE. CLASS. Zero flexibility in learning.

Homework problems are done in class so you have to teach yourself everything outside of class which is VERY hard. Lectures/additional homework is due before every class and takes 2+ hours if you actually watch the lectures even though they aren't even helpful. Tons of material to teach yourself and extremely hard to do well, she does not teach.

You have to to go to every single class and recitation, no excuses, and you have to get to class 30 mins early. She is no help and lazy she can't even teach anything. Gives hours of homework. The classroom is flipped which requires you to watch her youtube videos online at home and its like 3-4 45 min videos that barely teach anything.

i very highly do not recommend taking her. the fact that it's a flipped classroom wasn't the issue, it's her lecture videos that are awful. i found that she would speak without SAYING anything in the videos. the things that made me succeed in class were watching youtube videos, looking at activ's feedback, and having the TAs and LAs teach me.

This professor has designed the class to be extremely difficult and has no regard for her students. The "reversed learning style" is just an excuse for her to give you a ridiculous amount of lectures to watch in addition to homework and practice problems. There is also an overwhelming possibility you will take NINE tests in one semester. Good luck

You pretty much have to teach yourself everything the night before class. Homework takes no less than an hour to complete every other night. Very confusing. This is my second time taking one of her classes because she's the best chemistry professor on campus and it's even worse the second time. It's unnecessarily difficult.

She blames her students for having a bad test average....it was actually just her fault for not doing her job. Why she hasn't been fired yet is beyond me. A flipped classroom is like benching a weight that is too heavy, causing you to injure yourself or not use the proper technique to hold it up (said by another professor in the chem department).

Assigned worksheets to be done in class, graded on accuracy. Included questions we had never covered. T.A's even didn't understand. Said if we didn't finish in class then we just had to come to office hours. Included material on the test that we never covered. Flipped class, where you watch the lecture at home and do practice problems in class.

If you take Dillon's class, be ready to learn chemistry on your own. Lectures are just practice problems on topics she hasn't taught. Instead, you're expected to learn from paid third-party website, which feels more like a cash grab than a learning tool. There's little actual instruction or support from the professor.

I would've never taken this class if I knew Dr. Dillon would flip her classroom style midyear. We went from being taught the new material to "ok class watch my lecture videos at home and then in class you'll do practice problems". Not to mention the type of practice problems you get are not on any of the four midterm exams. Disappointed in FSU.

All my friends with other professors feel confident with what they're learning but nearly everyone I talk to in Dillons class is lost in the sauce. You have to teach yourself EVERYTHING and then use your self taught knowledge to do graded problems in class and she lowk shames you if you don't do perfect. her material is also so much harder.

Decided to flip that and now you go to lecture where you do random practice questions with clueless LAs. Dillon is rude when you ask questions. Grade is basically all exams. Everyone is lost and apparently it's our fault... common denominator...

Not good at all. Be ready to teach yourself absolutely everything there is. TA's do more teaching than her. No lectures and her “teaching “ was done through pandemic recordings of hers. Her uninformative lectures consistently fail to cover content in homework and tests. Completely closed off from criticism and blames students for lack of diligence, when really she just refuses to teach.

Terrible class structure. Lectures are done digitally outside of class, and take hours. The “lectures” are used to complete the homework assignments, which are due at the end of the class. They should be due at the end of the day to allow you to actually focus on the questions, as opposed to rushing through them. Might as well be an online class.

Switched to flipped classroom where she has recorded lectures mid semester, as well as switched her test correction styles during the hardest exams. She wonders y test avgs are below 60. During class, we do online problems that are graded, incredibly rushed and feel like I'm not actually focused on absorbing the content from the night before

Awful and rude professor. Switched class structure to a flipped class model out of the blue. The digital lectures are terrible, and fail to cover content for the assignments given in the lecture time or the exams that account for most of your grade. Take anyone else if you are able to, you'll actually learn the content you're paying FSU to learn.

Students, be aware! Dr. Dillon's reverse learning method makes this class feel like an online course you have to attend. There's no real teaching, just practice problems, and the exams are way harder than what you work on. I spent so much time on tutoring and self-study. She also changed the syllabus mid-semester. Super stressful do not take!!!!!

If you are taking this lecture, do NOT expect the class formatting to stay consistent. She will likely start lecturing in person, then randomly decide against it. She is not an attentive teacher, often relying on the LAs to explain the material to students. As a first year, this class did not make a good first impression of FSU's chem department.

She blames low test scores on the students. The need for test corrections to prevent failure speaks volumes. Lectures don't involve teaching, they focus on practice problems that are harder. You're left teaching yourself most of the material. When you ask a LA for help, they end up just giving you the answer, so you don't actually learn.

The entire class is taught through TAs who have little freedom to actually help the students learn. All labs are extremely easy, but given how few grades there are, small mistakes can result in major setbacks in grading. The lecture periods before labs are not very beneficial and the tophat after them are always pointlessly difficult. FSU do better

You're required to buy 3 programs for her class, 2 of which use AI to grade so there are always errors with it. She makes things way harder than they need to be. Tests are at 7 pm on a weeknight and you'll have corrections to get points back which is nice but it's only to cover for the incredibly low averages.

She does not actually teach, is very unhelpful, and is extremely judgmental and unforgiving for mistakes

Online lectures aren't helpful. You have to teach yourself everything. Only take her if you've taken AP Chem before. If not, it will be tough for you to get an A. Dr. Dillon has no empathy. She assumes students don't watch her lectures. She reported innocent students for cheating. She doesn't show up to class. LAs don't help. TAs do all teaching.

Reverse lecture style is terrible unless you are happy with spending hours teaching yourself the material each night. LA's/TA's are just as useless, frustrated, and confused as us, and the exams are nothing like the reviews provided. Everyone cheats to get by. I learned absolutely nothing. Taking CHM1046 over the summer elsewhere.

HORRIBLE! She changed the syllabus right after syllabus week making the class 10X harder and couldnt drop. Learning Chem by yourself when you havent taken AP Chem is HORRIBLE. AVOID AT ALL COST! Overall she is just a mean professor when you talk to her alone but nice in front of everyone. So many people have to go to academic court because of her!!

This class will be difficult. Unfortunately, there are many cases where you will not be set up to pass unless you search for information that should have been provided to you. Also the exams are written by a different professor, so all the time we spend doing practice problems don't directly translate to the test.

The material itself isn't super difficult, but the chem profs make it virtually impossible to do well no matter what. Dillon randomly changed the structure of the class to flipped lectures and, for our VERY LAST test, changed the way the corrections were done purely to make our lives harder. Literally would never have taken this class had I known.

Initially told us that the class would be a normal lecture then randomly switched to a flipped classroom three weeks in. Most online lectures had some information that was incorrect, when told about any mistakes she could not handle being wrong, and most TA's were unable to help during class time because she would not prepare them for our lesson.

She flipped the structure of the class 3 weeks in to where she no longer lectured in class. We were to do homework in class without any notes after barely learning the material in the first place. If we were caught using notes in class we were yelled at and told to ask the LA's who also did not know the answers most of the time.

The best way to describe how this class feels is when you walk into the gym for the first time, having researched yourself everything about how you should be lifting weights. Then, you pick up a 45lb dumb-bell to try to curl but you hurt yourself because you have never lifted weights before. Flipped classrooms do not work and they never have.

She's difficult and gives ridiculous coursework.

You are basically signing up for an online course because Stephanie refuses to teach you. When I asked for help she told me it wasn't her fault I didn't understand and I just "wasn't working hard enough" rather than actually helping me and doing her job.

So bad! She doesn't lecture in class and her online lectures are all over the place. She is so straight forward that its honestly disrespectful sometimes. She purposefully made her class harder, because all we learned was the basics, but during tests she would overly complicate things. Her LAs are more confused than us. Super hard.

Its essentially an online class because she has you watch her old lecture videos and then do practice problems in class. I would go over the notes and practice problems multiple times, and they are nothing like the questions on the test. I've emailed her multiple times asking for help, and her responses are rude, and she literally blamed me.

I didn't even take this class, I was in the other Chem 2 with Das, and he was new, so he just adopted her teaching style. IT IS SO BAD OMG. Tweaking every night trying to watch the long lectures. And she goes to conferences and tells other schools to mimic her teaching style--MAAM THE FIRST TEST HAD A FAILING AVERAGE horrible

Doesn't teach. You read from the textbook which is not understandable unless you're some chemistry genius. Then the coursework doesn't correlate whatsoever.

She is an awful professor. We watch over 5 hours of lecture each week with homework questions going along with the videos and 30 homework questions in class. There are 2 tests per unit. The HW is AI graded so it's very particular and she won't even give you credit back. However, it doesn't matter who your teacher is because she controls everything.

I have never had to interact with a teacher/professor as nasty and inconsiderate as her. She refuses to do her job and gives hour long lecture videos to watch in one sitting when we are only supposed to have 50 minutes per class of lecture material. Going to the actual class feels pointless because all you do is homework w/ optional help of LA/TAs.

If you struggle at all with Chem, don't take Dillon. I think she does want what's best for students, but the outcome she expects is unattainable by the quality of “teaching” she gives. As in, 2 hours of lecture videos she made 5 years ago every other night on top of 2 exams per unit with busy work in class that is no help at all. Good luck.

If you have a choice, don't take her. There are eight tests per semester, and the flipped classroom style is poorly executed. The way the material is taught is out of order. Her lectures are old, made five years ago. For such a math heavy course, she doesn't even thoroughly explain the problems, instead she just shows a solved slide and moves on.

Worst thing to happen to the science department. Take Duprince for chem 1, wish I did. If you make it to 2, no matter who you get she controls the class. Flipped structure is terrible and shes convinced everyone to use it. Exams are nothing like the practice and very unforgiving. Shes no help and doesn't take the blame when SHE makes mistakes.

I regret giving Professor Ma a 1 star last time. Ma may be a bad professor but at least he didn't drive me to irreparable despair. Don't blame Professor Ma, get Dillon first to understand what misery is.

The class was a failure. The content was absurd. You might think her teaching style was good until you realize that it was her way of ridiculously FORCING you to take 2-hour lectures instead of 50 minutes. Even the TAs didn't know what they were doing: they got some of my questions wrong and I lost points. Desperate is my only word for this class.

She makes chemistry miserable. She has a horrible teaching style and prides herself in having a hard class and struggling students. This teacher's goal is not for students to succeed or learn chemistry. She only cares about how difficult she can make her class. Do not take.

this is the worst "teacher" ive ever had. She has zero care or compassion for her students. this class is prison and made me question everything about myself and my scholastic ability. All the horror stories are TRUE. i dont care what the options are, DO NOT TAKE HER.

This class was not just a joke. It was a real circus. I could spend over a hundred pages describing my experience in this circus, not because it's interesting, but because the endless abyss of ultimate despair I had to go through, I swear.

If there was ever a time she was your last option, then dropping out would DEFINITELY be the better option. This is the most obvious example of humiliation and mental exhaustion for all the years to come. Take this class and you will experience ignorance and regret for the rest of your life.

She has an awful teaching style. If you learn best with an online class then this may be for you, but it's not for me. I don't mesh well with her flipped style learning, she is rude and abrasive and must be tenured because I have no idea why she is the way that she is. With so many exams it's near impossible to time manage her and your other class

She preaches her flipped classroom method talking about how amazing the results are. Not everyone has time to watch 2 hours or more worth of lecture videos (which she recommends watching each one twice). I find it disrespectful that I am paying for this class, and I get the absolute bare minimum from my professor, who believes this is fool proof.

She doesn't teach—just assigns online lectures. Class time is for auto-graded work. Tests are brutal, some with failing averages. Every mistake costs you since everything is graded. You take tests twice, but a worse second score still counts. Test corrections don't help. Only plus: two dropped tests, but it barely saves your grade.

i don't understand how this woman is still employed as a professor let alone as the head of the chemistry department cause she can NOT teach. all we do is watch her 5 year old youtube videos where she sounds miserable in every single one and rambles on as if we've learned this before?? then we have to go to class everyday to do homework!! fire her.

The style of her class is actually the worst thing I've ever experienced. There is no lecture expect for the pre recorded videos she makes you watch the night before every class. Going to class though is mandatory and you sit there and basically take a quiz on a subject you were supposed to learn from her awful lecture videos. Literally drowning.

I have no problem with teachers who are strict, however, Dillon has no respect or sympathy for her students. Basically not teaching and wanting you to only watch her recorded lectures and be rude when students have questions IN CLASS is insane. Studying on your own or with friends in the class will be the only thing that helps you!Horrible teacher.

I would not recommend unless you want to sit every day for hours learning the material at home. She does not teach in person as it is a flipped class. I had her when we had the shooting and her first email was that everyone had to still come in to take an exam the following monday. It was changed once school policy changed. Do not take.

Labflow is HORRIBLE. graded by ai, not accurate. you literally have to go to every office hour to get help because the questions are horrible. my TA was very helpful, but even they struggled using labflow. the labs were boring except for like 3/10. def passable, just very time consuming and frustrating

HORRENDOUS!!! LabFlow is awful, you only get one attempt for pre-lab and post-lab. The post lab report WILL take you hours to do if you decide to do it w/o extra help from the internet/AI. Your TA will determine how much you hate this class. Maria (my TA) was wonderful. Certain labs will take the whole time. Overall, tedious but not impossible.

This professor does not teach, she uses lectures she recorded many years ago with problems that are incorrect that she has not bothered to fix. It's a flipped classroom so you have to teach yourself everything at home and come into class and do homework with help from TA and LA. Her practice problems are nowhere near her exam problems.

Dr. Dillon handles things very inappropriately for a professor with power. She is known to give push back on any and all accommodations and is generally not pleasant to speak with. She is a good professor, but if you find yourself in a bad spot and needing help she is not one you can seek help from.

The course is unfairly weighted Students spend abt 90% time on long lec videos, video based assessments, Aktiv assignments & recitations which counts for only 20% It feels unfair & shows no respect for the time & effort students r putting in. It's demotivating! Also there r 8 exams no partial credit & the in-class material barely matches the exams

the tests are weighted heavy and very hard to prepare for. She has "study material" on canvas but all of it is very outdated and doesn't align with the curriculum anymore. She acts like she hates her students and yells students in class for using ai, but a large portion of our grade in the class depends on ai grading from classavo.

I've never met anyone who's had a single good thing to say about this professor. She's rude, condescending, insensitive, and makes the most straightforward thing complicated. You can tell when a professor is only here for the tenure because she could care less about the class. Makes a fundamental class like gen chem insanely difficult.

Although I will say I was absolutely MISERABLE this entire semester, HER & this class took over my entire life, I had no life, & I was DEPRESSED. This class is not easy by any means & Dillon being Dillon doesn't make it any easier. She genuinely is an evil person & has no compassion for people.

This professor is the least supportive I've ever had. She shows no concern for students, prioritizing tenure and personal interests over teaching. She is unapproachable, rigid, and unhelpful. I did not feel valued or supported in her class and would not recommend her to anyone.

Listen to what the reviews say. You teach this class entirely to yourself. Its all work at home. My suggestion? Lock in. dedicate tons of time to this class. Go to LA office hours. Use any and all resources at your disposal. this class is totally passable but you just have to torment yourself for it.

Didn't do well on the exams no matter how hard I studied. The exams are not an accurate reflection of the material that it's based on. Dillon isn't helpful when students ask for help. She doesn't have a welcoming environment for students to talk to her. Don't take if you don't want to teach yourself the entire semester. Never felt more dumb.
