Dillon honestly is a good teacher. Compared to my friends who had other chem professors, I understood more chemistry than all of them combined. As long as you keep up with the work which is usually watching lecture videos and answering questions every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday you should be okay. Its a big workload but ended up being helpful.

Dillon is very petty for no reason. She purposely wants to make her class impossible. We used to know when our answers were correct or right when we put them in the system - she changed that so that it always says were wrong so we 'dont guess'. Chemistry is already a hard subject, why take away easy points...? We are all just trying to pass dude.

It took me half of the semester to realize Dillon is actually a good chem teacher. While she doesn't actually teach during her lecture time, herself and the LA's are extremely helpful to learn chem. All you do is mix a bunch of stuff in a bottle every week, but not before you've had to hand copy the procedure in pen (printers are a thing in 2021), and spend 2 hours trying to figure out what on earth top hat is trying to get you to do. Also, prepare at least $200 for clothes, books and software that have free alternatives or are unnecessary.

I was scared to take this lab bc of the reviews, but she is the ONLY chem lab teacher. The lab is taught by a TA. You do the experiments in class & everything else on Tophat. It was relatively easy, just go to office hours & you will be fine! I finished w/99% in lab so it was pretty fair. Its all up to who your TA is since they grade everything.

This was a lab I was very worried about and it was extremely challenging. You REALLY had to depend on your TA sometimes in order to understand how to get the right answer on post lab questions. Your data is also dependent if you did the lab accurately, which made the class even more stressful. It is doable, just very time consuming.

I went to office hours every single week & spent so much time working on this ONE credit hour class and still only got a B. Dr. Dillon makes the lab 10x harder than it needs to be, & that was a unanimous opinion between my entire lab. She makes her 1 credit hour class into a 3 credit class. You will be spending many hours a week doing the pre-lab and post lab reports. She will not help you out in any way. Our grades are done through TopHat which is a very broken system. She makes it purposely harder by hiding correct answers on pre lab and provides no feed back to wrong answers.

Office hours are super helpful because she and the TA's work with you on a question and if you get it wrong, you get the points back.

Dr. Dillon's "flipped" class structure (homework in class, lectures watched at home) left a lot of room for confusion and falling behind. Her lecture videos were boring and took several hours a week to watch, take notes on, understand, and complete the TopHat questions for. Overall, the chem department at FSU is not the best, and Dr. Dillon is no exception. Compared to the rest of the department, though, she's probably the best. She teaches reverse-style, so you have to watch lecture videos at home and do homework in class. You'll have a lot of homework no matter what. You will likely pass if you do the work.

The best way to describe how this class feels is when you walk into the gym for the first time, having researched yourself everything about how you should be lifting weights. Then, you pick up a 45lb dumb-bell to try to curl but you hurt yourself because you have never lifted weights before. Flipped classrooms do not work and they never have.

Dillon is the only reason I passed chem 1. I was skeptical about the flipped classroom but ended up liking it. I watched lectures at my own pace, worked along the video with practice problems and pause/rewind when I needed to. Chem is hard don't expect an easy A. Office hours helped a lot. Honestly, for Chem I, Dillon is probably the best professor. She is the toughest, but she also forces you to actually learn the information, which is important for this class since it's the foundation for a bunch of chem classes to come. Be prepared to spend about 2 hours doing prep work for every lecture and extensive studying before each test.

Took Chem I and Chem II with Dillon. The classes were set up the same but for some reason the Chem II exams were way harder and each had to be re-graded. I would get C's on each test until it was re-graded until usually a low A, which was kind of stressful. Lots of prepwork but it all served its purpose. Had to study weeks in advance for each exam

She does a flipped classroom setting, meaning at home you watch 3-4 45min videos she recorded 5-6yrs ago on youtube and in class you have to complete 20+ questions with very little help. You can easily tell when a professor is teaching for the tenure and not the students.

In this class, we watched the lectures as homework and spent class time on practice problems. It can take a lot of time to watch the lectures and take notes to understand them at home, but there are a lot of opportunities to practice, which helps a lot. I liked watching the lectures for homework because you can go at your own pace.

the tests are weighted heavy and very hard to prepare for. She has "study material" on canvas but all of it is very outdated and doesn't align with the curriculum anymore. She acts like she hates her students and yells students in class for using ai, but a large portion of our grade in the class depends on ai grading from classavo.

I've never met anyone who's had a single good thing to say about this professor. She's rude, condescending, insensitive, and makes the most straightforward thing complicated. You can tell when a professor is only here for the tenure because she could care less about the class. Makes a fundamental class like gen chem insanely difficult.

I hate to say this but her method weirdly kinda works. Although I will say I was absolutely MISERABLE this entire semester, HER & this class took over my entire life, I had no life, & I was DEPRESSED. This class is not easy by any means & Dillon being Dillon doesn't make it any easier. She genuinely is an evil person & has no compassion for people.

I took chem 2 in the spring, and did not enjoy it much due to the flipped classroom. You do hour long lectures at home 3 times a week and go to class just to do an online assignment and thats it. She does not interact much with class. Tests are actually very reasonable I literally just redid the assignments and got As. Lots of test drops as well.

Not too bad. My advice: listen to the lectures 1x while doing smth (cleaning, working out) and then 1x to take notes. Use a transcripter to look up key words for lecture questions. Go to office hours and don't be afraid to ask for help in class. Document absences, 5pts extra on the exams is huge. Go to recitation! communicate with her + ur ta!

She's honestly not that bad, just extremely straightforward. I was not a fan of the flipped classroom style, as I think it made it harder to understand the information. The class itself was alright, but those exams were a struggle (exams had pretty low averages). The extra credit was life-saving though, so definitely attend class and recitation.

Exams are alright, some grading discrepancy but not by much. Extra credit goes a long way and attendance really helps. The reverse environment was new, but manageable as any other course would be, studying is key. She explains the material decently, but if you show you actually put in some thought, she will guide you to the correct answer.

Professor Dillon is one of the funniest professors I've had. I had her for both Gen Chems and recently took her for Biochemistry lab. All three of those classes were very easy to pass relative to what other professors would expect and very manageable. She always says she's gonna be really tough on you, but then gives easy questions.

I like the flipped classroom style she does because I can actually take my time to understand and rewatch the lectures. The LAs/TAs were very helpful when it comes to doing the homework in-class. The test grading is very lenient with lots of partial credit available and you can even ask for points back.

Listen to what the reviews say. You teach this class entirely to yourself. Its all work at home. My suggestion? Lock in. dedicate tons of time to this class. Go to LA office hours. I did good in this class, but I already had taken AP Chem. I felt Dr. Dillon could be pretty harsh towards students, and could become frustrated if someone asked "dumb" questions. Despite already knowing most of the material, the flipped classroom structure had me spending way to much time outside of class watching the lectures.

This class took up so much of my time but if you put in the time it's pretty manageable to get an A. The 5 percent extra credit on tests for going to the lectures was very fair. As a person she is pretty cold and seemingly unreasonable but if you put in the work and ask the good TAs for help, you'll be fine.

Many on here give Dr Dillon a bad score. However, my honest opinion is that she sets up her students for success, and gives them every tool needed to do well. While the class is tough (its chemistry what do you expect) Dr Dillon makes it manageable and honestly very interesting. Just do the work, show up, and STUDY!!! She is an amazing professor!

The quality of your experience depends entirely on the TA that you have. I had a woman named Tara Bushelman and she was really caring and she always helped me out big time during office hours. Go to those! It's not hard at all to get an A if you go to office hours and do the lab reports and pre labs correctly. She is very good overall. Good luck!

Chads Prep on YouTube. Thats the way to pass the class. Clearly explains everything, as compared to the lectures posted. As a person, she is very nice if you talk to her a bit, but she expects a lot out of you. Showing up to every class is a 5% grade boost on each exam. The exam material is very similar to the Aktivs, which are usually harder.

Your experience may very depending on the TA you have, as for the lab you have little to no interaction with Dr. Dillion. I really enjoyed this class, and felt I learned more in a lab setting than a lecture setting. That being said there is a long lecture you must watch prior to each lab which for the most part unhelpful. Overall easy class.
