The best Physics Lap teacher ever! She is constantly available for help and goes over the lab in detail before class. She explains every concept and is quick to answer a question. If you are having trouble with the lab then she will help your group. She tries to get to know her students and wants you to succeed. I would recommend this class!
Dr. Fiorenza is a wonderful and very helpful instructor with a contagious positive attitude. She's always eager to help students understand the difficult concepts that accompany the realm of physics. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed her as a professor. She was always prepared for lecture, everything was organized and structured first hand so you knew what you were in for. Really worked with you and the class, and wants you to succeed in her class. Powerpoints, quizzes, and exams are clear. STUDY STUDY STUDY! It will help you tremendously.
she is amazing and helpful, kind......... her class is fun and easy and she is good locking to :)
I took Dr. Fiorenza in the Spring 2015 semester, and I'm taking the lab that goes with the class in the fall. She is extremely easy-going, and you can tell she cares about her field. She is willing to do what she can to make sure you pass, and her class as a whole is very straight-forward. There are no trick questions.
Physics Labs are pretty easy, but the class is not. To pass you will need to study and do the practice homework problems. Prof. Fiorenza is very helpful and interested in the student's progress. Very Good Professor.
Dr. Fiorenza is a great professor. She responds to emails fairly quick and gives you clear answers. The online class is extremely hard especially if you cant dedicate 25 hours a week to study. I wish I would have taken this class in person. With that said, DO NOT take this class online.
She gives you everything you need to get an A. She states exactly what you need to read and practice, she recorded lectures on each of the chapters, and she posted the lecture slides so you can review the major points of the lectures without having to rewatch them. She was the absolute dream teacher to have.
Couple of workbook assignments and quiz or two every week, 4 exams throughout the semester that are proctored (free at all campuses). Really easy to understand if you listen to her lectures or even just read the slideshow that goes with the lecture. Quiz and exams based off of workbook assignments, honestly I didn't need to buy the book... sigh.
I love Dr. Fiorenza! Everything she teaches goes right onto the exam, and it is amazing how easy it is to learn for this class! She also gives a TON of extra credit opportunities!
Great teacher! She's so patient and willing to help anyone out. She's also very positive and makes the subject interesting! There are a lot of quizzes but they're online and similar to the workbook ones. Loved her class and her class set up. Would take her again!
Dr. Fiorenza is one of the best professors I have ever taken. She's amazing at her job, and she really cares for your success. She's always there for you if you ever need that extra help. She gives out a lot of work, but it's all practice for the exams because she really wants you to pass. I honestly recommend anyone to take her, she's great!
One of the most organized online classes I have ever taken. Exams are proctored, no notes or book allowed. However, if you study quizzes and homework exams are no problem. In lectures Dr. Fiorenza will let you know material that is important to know for the test. Not an easy A but it is obtainable.
This was my second time taking this instructor. I've also taken her AST 103 class. 104 is harder material in my opinion. Teacher is great though, extra credit offered throughout the semester. Exams have to be taken at the University, no notes or books. Very structured online class.
Dr. Fiorenza loves what she does and the way she instructs her class really shows that, which (for me at least) makes the class more enjoyable. She is very clear when it comes to what she expects of her students as well as letting us know what to expect on assessments. The semester has not yet ended but I am anticipating an A.
I took Dr. Fiorenza's class online during Summer. Follow her instructions, which are clear, for an A. Homework and quizzes have multiple attempts, if you don't get 100% on these then you did not follow instructions. Study for exams by reviewing workbook assignments, quizzes, and lectures. 3 Exams are taken at Testing Center, each 20% of grade. Easy
I have such a broader understanding of our world and the universe around us thanks to Dr. Fiorenza and her dedication. On numerous occasions I was lost in the course material and within hours she responded with nothing short of an exceptional response. Her video lectures were extremely in-depth and well put together, a true professional.
Absolutely recommend Dr. Fiorenza I took the online summer class and I have to say that this was the best structured on-line class Ive ever had,Definitely have to read the chapters and watch the video lectures to understand completely also the homeworks are important because they are basically what is going to be on the quizzes, High quality class
The best professor! Show up - she gives pop quizzes! She's very kind on grading, very helpful outside of class, and truly cares about her students learning and passing her class!
This was an astronomy lab. It was very easy. She helps with any questions and you work in groups. Overall very nice lab class for those with busy schedules.
One of the best professors I have taken this semester. I had her for an online class and Everything was well organized. There is a text based question and a quiz ( directly from text) every week. I found them to be extremely easy. 3 tests for the semester and questions are picked from the weekly quizzes. She is awesome. Take her guys.
This was a great class! She was very helpful and we worked in groups. I loved the layout of the class and she would even assist at the end of class. If she noticed that the class was stuck on a problem she would go over it with us together. She responds by email quickly as well. I definitely recommend taking her AST 105 lab!
Really enjoyed Dr. Fiorenza's class. I rented the book over amazon for some extra knowledge altho everything you need to know is online. The class came out to be way more interesting than I anticipated and now I have a lot of questions regarding our universe. Why wouldnt some1 take her class? I mean, i actually got to sit down and color Lol! DO IT.
I first took this professor for Ast 103. I loved her online class. When I had to take a class over the summer semester I took Ast 104 with this same professor. She is super nice and responds to emails quickly. Her video lectures are so thorough I never needed the books. I can't recommend this professor enough. I wish she taught all my other classes
Online 8-week summer course. Definitely has a passion for astronomy. Course consists of chapter reading, her 30-60 min video lectures which are helpful, & homework. Workbook is optional but recommended since it helps answer some homework, quiz, & exam questions. 3 proctored exams, & 3 chances to take timed quizzes. You have to work for this grade.
Best Physics teacher ever! Very Passionate and explains concepts thoroughly. I have a new love for physics because of her. Highly recommend.
Professor Fiorenza is amazing, I couldn't imagine taking physics with anyone else. She takes a difficult subject and makes it easy to understand. She's an extremely fair grader- always gives partial credit even if the answer is wrong as long as you show your work. She's so passionate about teaching and it really shines through in all her lectures
Even if I enjoyed learning new things in her class but this class was harder than my expectation of a science class. There was a quiz and homework every week , 3 tests and one final test from beginning. You will enjoy her class if you are taking only 2 or 3 classes. Her final test is not fair and I hope she changes it for future.
Professor Fiorenza was an amazing teacher. Her lectures were structured perfectly and the content was easy to take in. Homework and quiz almost every week online. Exams were based off the homework and quizzes and are fairly easy if you do the previous work. Would take her class again if I had to.
Dr. Fiorenza truly cares for her students to learn. She really emphasizes what the important topics are for studying for exams. She's a very generous grader and turned physics into something that is easier to understand. I had her for both lecture and lab, I'm sad that she isn't teaching PHYS152, but TAKE HER without hesitation!
Professor Fiorenza is soooo nice! Each exam are practically the exact questions from the tests, and homework assignments that she gives you each week. As long as you study those, you'll do great! She cares for her students and is very understandable. She also gives a lot of extra credit work too! Take her class
Dr. Fiorenza's is an amazing professor! Her lectures make the textbook understandable, there's a homework assignment and quiz due every week online, exams are very similar to the questions in the lecture tutorials, and she offers A LOT of extra credit opportunities. Outstanding professor and I plan on taking her again!
Dr. Fiorenza's class is interesting & easy. Didn't need to read the book to understand just watched her video lectures and took notes. There is a weekly quiz and homework, but answers to the homework are on the worksheets she provides. Easy final that's a combo of the previous test. overall great class, actually learned pretty interesting things.
Overall an amazing professor with a real passion in what she teaches, she also really cares about your grades and having everyone be comfortable with the material. You can't go wrong in taking any of her classes or labs!
I adore her so much, she gives clear lectures before the lab and explains the formulas. She helped me really tie together the concepts I would learn in lecture with her explanations. Definitely recommend
Professor Fiorenza is amazing! Her lectures are understandable if you print PowerPoint slides and take notes on it. I did not use the textbook as much since there were weekly quizzes and homework that made me understand the concepts more. She offers extra credit! Make sure to attend class because participation will matter for your grade.
She's an amazing Astronomy teacher. She's very passionate about her subject and she's very helpful. She depends on powerpoint for her lectures and puts them online if you miss a class. There is a daily attendance sheet that adds to your participation grade at the end of the semester.
I took Dr. Fiorenzas AST 103 course, and she is honestly an amazing instructor. She is truly passionate about teaching! Her lectures are very informative and interesting at the same time! I never needed to use the textbook because she teaches everything you need to know for the exams. Take her courses, you will end up loving Astronomy!!
Professor Fiorenza is really nice I like her, I took her Astronomy class in Summer 2018. There is 12 quizzes, and 6 homework assignments, and 3 Exams. The Exams you have to take in person at the testing center, but you have to make an appointment for the Exam ahead of time. She gives 5 points Extra credit.
I took professor Fiorenza for AST 104 online. You dont need the textbook she has videos &slideshows. She does a lot of extracredit that can be used on exams. DO it, she's an easy grader on that. The HW and quizzes are easy cus it's online. But exams are at CSN and those are hard! Just memorize the HW &quizzes & w/ extra credit you should be okay.
I took Professor Fiorenza online for AST 104, and I used my textbook alongside watching her video lectures, taking notes, and you can go to the planetarium as well as certain activities for extra credit! I absolutely loved her lectures, and I made sure to study really hard. She's also very caring and passionate about astronomy which I love!
Very sweet and knowledgeable science professor! Kind of a tough grader, and some of the labs were a bit hard to grasp. However, she does do a lecture before every lab and helps you out a ton. Work is down in groups. Drops your lowest grade at the end and offers a few extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. Recommended for AST 105.
Don't necessarily need the book. Took her online class and she posts slides with a voice over lecture. Her workbook assignments are the same as her quizzes, sometimes questions from the slides. Exam questions are from quizzes/assignments and are proctored. She offers a lot of extra credit. Do need to study but easy A.
I wouldn't recommend you to take this professor. Your grade is made up of quizzes, homework, and three exams. All three categories being weighted the same (20%) each. The major problem that this professor has is that before every exam, she tells you to study the homework and quizzes, but sometimes puts random questions that weren't there.
Professor Fiorenza is a really sweet teacher super caring and got back to my questions the same day I asked them. Definitely, recommend reading the book it does help. Have a week to do everything and it's possible to do it all in 1 day but it'll be the only thing you do that day. Know the gist of the textbook and you'll do fine on quizzes.
Great class. Very easy if you take notes and pay attention. I suggest not missing class. Quizzes and Exams are taken in class. Homework is online but treat it as if it is a quiz. She also drops the two lowest quiz scores and one lowest exam score. Really interesting neat class :)
What a great professor! Make sure you buy the workbook asap. Don't really need the text book. She is very passionate about the class and truly cares about the students. I would definitely take her again.
You have 13 quiz's, 4 exams in which you must go the csn testing center to take. Also, 7 homework assignments. This class equaled my 3 other classes in the amount of work.
One of the most educational classes Ive taken, where I felt like I was genuinely learning a lot of cool stuff. This class will only be easy if you put the effort into learning the material. Dr. Fiorenza is an extraordinaire Professor with lots of passion for teaching. You must study in order to pass. Cant just expect to pass with no effort.
physics is hard in general but she related the topics to real life examples. she basically dumbed everything down so that way we have a better understanding of everything. tests are short answers but you can bring a 8x11 cheat sheet. do the practice problems she recommends and you will pass the class.
Dr. Fiorenza is amazing- no doubt the best professor I've had. She has short lectures before each lab and they are so helpful. She is caring and walks around during labs to help. There are 11 labs and one of them is dropped
Wonderful teacher, she really cares about the subjects she teaches. However if you do not study you will not pass. Her expectations are very straightforward and you wont be able to slack. Read, Do the work and show up then youll pass
Lab math was harder than the 95 prereq, I spent every class showing my entire table how to do it. She is stricter on spelling and grammar in her papers than most English professors I've taken. Gives extra credit, but it's a lot of work, and it doesn't have much impact. I haven't actually met anyone who liked her lab, table partners said it was bad.
Fiorenza was one of my favorite professors last semester. I had her for both Physics 151 and Phys151 lab (failed both before her). Besides her taking the time to make foreign concepts easier to comprehend, she is so passionate about the topic that she doesn't mind explaining more than once. Also very caring and attentive when you communicate.
This was a horrible course. If you want to be a physics major, by all means, take this class. However, if you just want to know more about our universe, do not take this class. It is horrible. I would never, ever take this class again in my life. Choose a different professor. Please.
We had to go completely online in the middle of the semester bc of COVID-19, but this prof explained everything when I emailed her. She posted videos that showed you how to do all of hard problems, all you had to do was watch. Some stuff was hard but you can tell she really cares about her students. she will work with you until you get it
Took the lecture online and the lab in class. Personally it was all very difficult and she didn't help as much, although she is a kind prof. It's a lot of material to understand and she's very strict on how she grades the labs. There's not many extra credit opportunities or chance to fix your grade.
She treats this course like a 400 level class.
Professor Stephanie Fiorenza is a great professor that goes above and beyond for her students. You can tell that she genuinely cares about us doing well and understanding the material. She is efficient: She replies to your messages within a couple of hours, and grades major exams within 24 hours.
Dr. Fiorenza is extraordinarily! She is caring and is always willing to help in any way possible. Her lectures are truly great and knowledgeable. I took her AST103 in person, amazing lectures. And her AST104 online, super helpful stuff updated. She uploads videos of her lecturing for both in person and online. Best professor!
Professor Stephanie Fiorenza is extremely knowledgable in her field and probably one of the smartest people I've met. Her labs are based on the textbook and can be math heavy but she is willing to always help. At heart, she really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. You just have to put in some effort.
If you need your help, she will help but when she does she often says: "not sure how you got that and its a bit off don't think it will affect you that much. " When she hands it back graded, she grades that part heavy. In other words, don't hope much help from since she teachers more on how to solve equation than how to do the lab. You will regret.
A very boring class and Professor. Her quizzes are nothing like the homework. She only give you one day to prepare for the quizzes, once we had 2 chapter quizzes in one day. She doesnt explain anything!! She just lectures and some of the things we learned needed to be explained more thoroughly, which she didnt do. Dont take her class!!
Dr. Fiorenza is passionate about her subject and it shows in her teaching. She expects respect from her students but will give it right back. She adapted to the unusual circumstances of COVID-19, and adjusted where necessary to help all of her students get the most out of the class in the given circumstances. She did a fantastic job. Truly.
Professor Fiorenza is without a doubt, the best professor I've had for a class. The class taught me a lot and was very easy to follow. The tests are quizzes are easy if you listen to her lectures and study beforehand. She is also very helpful outside of class and answers any questions that you may have. I'd highly recommend taking her classes.
Dr Fiorenza is a tough but fair professor. The expectations are clear but you do have to put in the work of studying. You might be able to cover quiz material the day before but exams are cumulative, so take notes. We had to go online because of covid19 so the experience was more difficult than usual, but she always responded to emails quickly.
She is the best! Her lectures are very interesting and teach you everything you need to understand the material.
There is a lot of reading when it comes to taking this class. There are also power points, video lectures, and assignments to watch for the chapter you read about that week. Overall a good class if you want to learn about Astronomy but all quizzes and exams use Lockdown Browser and absolutely no notes are allowed. Just make sure to study.
This professor is very knowledgable and cares about her students. That said, physics is a very difficult subject. There is lots of content. Long lecture videos, tons of practice problems, quizzes every week, and four exams. You have to spend a lot of time to pass this class. Responds very quickly and curved the last two exams.
At first I though I would love nothing more than to learn the stars and galaxies but it was a lot. Lectures are a lot, quizzes and exams with a Lockdown Browser, and it was a lot. I'm not going to take her again.
The online course consisted of 13 quizzes and 4 exams. Uses Lockdown Browser webcam, all closed book. Lectures range from 30 minutes to 2 hour long videos of her reading slides she posts on the modules. They are mediocre presentations which only help so much, I would find myself guessing on most questions. No redos on anything, book was never used.
Dr. Fiorenza, alone, makes this class so much fun and engaging to learn! From day 1, she communicates what is expected from her students. She has a lot of homework and quizzes but watching her lecture videos, really helps! She LITERALLY gives you the answers and even tells you what to study for on quizzes and exams! One of my favorite professors!
Overall, I found myself not understanding assignments and getting proper help. When I would reach out explaining what I'm not understanding the Professor would question me - "Are you reading the chapters - I give you all the answers" With the answers I still didn't understand how to get it and I stopped reaching out for help because it was no use!
Schedule w/ due dates for all homework, quizzes, and exams given at start of course. No surprises of what to expect. Do the workbook activities, those aren't for a grade but she posts the solutions to those and the homework assignments are basically same questions. Quiz & exam questions similar to workbooks. Fast responses to emails & worked w/ me
Mrs. Fiorenza was a great teacher! She taught my schools PHYS101 class and it was awesome. Even though the course was online, the canvas was super well organized and the materials used are really helpful. I would advise reading the textbook and asking for help, she is very helpful. She also had videos in our course that were great resources.
Fiorenza is by far my favorite prof at CSN. Astronomy and Physics are not the easiest As, but Fiorenzas video lectures are clear, concise and well produced. Her modules are so well developed that you may not need the textbook for the course. Apply yourself and communicate your hardships, and she will enthusiastically guide you beyond your goals!
Fiorenza is by far my favorite prof at CSN. Astronomy is not the easiest A, but her video lectures are clear, concise, and well produced. The modules are so well developed that you may not need the textbook for the course. Apply yourself and communicate your hardships, and she will enthusiastically guide you beyond your goals! She's truly stellar!
Even though it was online, I learned a lot in this class. Online labs were enjoyable despite not being able to participate in them physically. Homework was very easy and you get as many tries as you need. Since it's online you kind of teach yourself, but her recorded lectures are explained in very clear terms. Just the right amount of challenging!
Dr. Fiorenza was very detailed and specific in her instructions allowing for students to better understand the work in front of them. The work assigned gets graded within a few hours after submission, the work is usually returned with clear explanations for the questions answered incorrectly.
This class was exclusively online, meaning the professor was limited in terms of what she could do to teach, however she taught the material effectively nonetheless. Assignments were consistent, grading was fair, expectations were clear, and most importantly she made me genuinely develop an interest in physics. I wish I had her next semester too!
Dr. Fiorenza is an awesome professor and made the adjustments during the pandemic workable for everyone. The textbook isn't needed, the modules include different video lecture options, from her lecturing in person to a quick digital version, with examples and anything else you need. Highly recommend!
Dr. Fiorenza's teaching methods for online learning, even during a pandemic, were phenomenal. She gives generous feedback on quizzes and exams, and also makes her expectations clear for what is expected. Also, her lecture videos are long, but SO good and full of valuable and well explained information. I recommend Dr. Fiorenza!
Half the time Fiorenza gave lots of practice and information to prepare for the quizzes, then the other half of the time she would only give a lecture then a webcam monitored quiz on the lecture. So much information to memorize and not consistent with the material. When I asked for study material, she said "listen to the lecture for important info"
If you are good at tests and memorizing 4 chapters worth of material, plus everything for the final this is the class for you. Exams are closed book, closed notes, and you are recorded to ensure this. Overall decent professor the way exams are given are just extremely difficult. Take notes on every chapter as you follow recorded lectures.
Take her class. Study her slides instead of the textbook. Watch her videos because she will say what facts will be on the test. You'll get at least a B in her class if you do those two things. Astronomy can be a hard subject, but she does care about your understanding of the material. She is easy to communicate with.
Dr. Fiorenza is a great professor if I were a Science Major. This class was very difficult. There was A LOT of information I ended up dropping the class as it was so much and hard for me. I can see if I were a science major but NO. You take tests that have to be proctored 50 questions for your exams. Online she provides her recorded lessons.
She's one of my favorite professors! The online course has a different feel but watch the video lectures and write down the important points she makes just like you would in the in-person class. That will make the quizzes and exams a lot easier to study for.
Do the workbooks because they help a lot. Great professor who always responded quickly to all of my questions!
She explains everything you need to know for the quizzes and exams in the video lectures so be sure to watch those. I took notes while watching so it made it easier to study for the tests. She was also very nice and responded to emails quickly.
Back to back due dates. Absolutely no time to spend on other classes. Labs are near impossible to do since the only explanation is in the manual and half the time it doesnt make sense. Plan on messaging her 10 times a day to understand anything.
She sucks at helping students having a hard time. I wouldnt waste a breathe taking this class again. If youre a science major then this class is for you. Unsympathetic and has you memorize many chapters worth of stuff with closed books for quizzes and exams. She doubts her students and has a dumb grading point system. If you have a 64%, its an F.
This class is so time consuming she wants you to watch her 1 hr & 30 min lectures, read the dense chapters & do the workbooks & read the slides. Uses Lockdown so she wants you to remember the formulas how to do them, vocab and just random things. I would not recommend taking her... EVEN if you are a STEM major its just too much. & 64% is an F?! no.
She made me love astronomy!!
I took this class online, and I really enjoyed her recorded lectures. There were work book problems which were very similar to the quizzes. this was very helpful as she did in depth coverage of the work book homework. if you watch the recaps of the homework, you will do well on the quizzes and exams
The professor gives great feedback, but shes very nit picky about significant figures and units. She gives partial credit for getting the formula right and other details, even if you got the wrong answer. She has a terrible online format due to there being limited interactions with her. The prerecorded lectures is pretty much an audio book
Dr. Fiorenza has been a wonderful professor and has truly made learning about Astonomy (a course I was super intrigued to take) even more interesting and exciting to keep learning more about throughout the semester. As long as you read the material, watched the lectures, took the quizzes and exams, it was an excellent class due to Dr. Fiorenza.
Dr. Fiorenza made the class material easily accessible and also made here grading criteria very clear. Homework and quizzes were easy A's if you went over the weekly lectures. 10/10 I would take her class again.
Dr. Fiorenza is one of my favorite professors at CSN. She puts a lot of effort into her courses. She provides many different types of tools to learn the material. You can listen or read. She provides recordings of her in-person lectures so you feel like you're sitting in class and getting the same thing you would be taking it in-person.
My experience with this professor was that not good. Her assignments and class is very disorganized making the students job much harder than it should have to be. She definitely likes to point out that she is good at her job, but the reality is, she is messy and very inconsistent with grading.
Way way way way way too many videos. Her videos are boring and take over an hour and 30 minutes to watch. She is not a very good speaker to begin with. I wanted to pull my eyeballs out.
SUBSTANTIAL amount of work and tests were camera proctored. She seems passionate and knowledgeable though. Required textbook with weekly chapter quizzes, lectures, slides, very easy homework assignments, and 3 exams. Walked away with a better understanding of AST but less passion for it. Wouldn't take her course again unless it was my last option.
I cannot express how good this professor was. She gives you everything you need to learn and tries her best to apply it to every individual student who may have different learning methods. She offers multiple presentations, recorded lectures, worksheets, and slideshows meant to be used to your ability if needed. She interacts with the students too.
Her class is pretty fun! I took her online class. Each week is a new topic relating to Astronomy, and all assignments are due every other Sunday. If you read the book and make sure to review the assigned modules, you'll do great in this class.
Very passionate about astronomy but tends to over explain to the point where it is confusing.. LOTS of work every week up to even 3 hours of recorded lectures. Quizzes and exams are proctored and not open notes. If you study hard and really pay attention you will pass this is not one to slack off in at all however. Have to memorize a lot
8 homework assignments--lowest is dropped. 13 quizzes--three lowest are dropped. 4 exams--none are dropped. only quizzes, exams, and final are taken on Respondus Lockdown Browser. easy browser to get around, if you know what i mean. use quizlet. homework questions are identical to the "homework solutions" she posts for every module. very chill prof
Watch videos/lectures because it's similar to what is asked on the quizzes/exams. Homework too. The lectures are long though, 30min - 1+hrs. Quizzes/exams are proctored in the Respondus Lockdown Browser and not open-notes. You will record yourself taking each test. Very easy class and chill professor.
Amazing Instructor, amazing lectures. 4 exams, few quizzes and HW assignments weekly. Textbook/workbook required $$ - you can watch the lectures & not read the textbook to pass. Workbook assignments are essential to Q/Exams. Everything was black and white, she responds in a timely manner, & provides everything you need to pass. I highly recommend.
She is very caring and always puts herself out there in case students need help. Weekly tests and weekly homework assignments, as well as four exams. Quizzes and exams are proctored through a lockdown browser you have to download, which means a face cam is mandatory. A lot of reading, a lot of work. Don't slack off like I did if you take her.
Fiorenza was delightful. All her class material was very easy to follow and interesting. I struggled in this class as science isn't my strong suit, but my love for the material and her teaching style definitely kept me going.
She has home work and a test due every 2 weeks. She also has 4 exams. Every quiz has lockdown browser and every exam is either in person or by using proctorU. These exams all together make up 80 percent of your grade. one bad exam can hurt you tremendously. I scored low on the first exam and dropped out. You are unable to make up for 1 bad exam.
Professor Fiorenza is very caring and understanding, lectures are also great. There are no retakes on tests, and the homework assignments are through canvas but we go over them together in class. She also is willing to meet with you to discuss any material you may need help with, and does a great job at preparing you for exams.
Amazing professor, really cared about her students. Her homework and quizzes may seem like a lot but as long as you do the work, you will do very well. I am not a good test taker, so I did average on the test which brought my grades down significantly but that's my only complaint. Never needed to email her because all the information was available.
Took both AST103&104; same style for both classes. The videos/HW are like the quizzes/exams. Quizzes/Exams are not open-notes. Quizzes need Respondus Lockdown Browser+Webcam. You now need to go to a testing center to take exams or use ProctorU. Make sure to study because the quizzes+exams are heavy on your grade. Lowest HW+3Quizzes dropped.
She wants u to succeed. I found her class hard but thats just physics for me. Attendance not mandatory but she does group activities and quizzes in class so if you don't go you'll get a 0. Exam and quizzes are not bad she lets you have a notecard for quiz and a whole sheet of paper for exams. she gives as many points as she can so show work.
Ms. Fiorenza is extremely caring and she gives numerous opportunities for students to earn extra credit by attending FUN astronomy events around CSN. Not only this, she makes sure our readings are relevant. She is one of the best teachers I've had! In light of the UNLV situation (2023(, she made sure we were okay before proceeding with class.
Really great class if you are interested in learning about space. Dr. Fiorenza is very passionate when lecturing this course. There are 4 Exams worth 20% of your grade as well as homework and quizzes worth the other 20%. Easy and fun course if you pay attention to lectures and take notes. Extra credit opportunities can help boost a bad exam score.
There is the final exam left and I'm praying we pass (sitting on 72%) She is a great teacher, lectures are interesting. Grade definitely low out of my own doing. Missed most homework assignments due to not paying attention to canvas. I'd be sitting on a 85% if I didn't miss 90% of them. who ever reading this. DONT FORGET ABOUT CANVAS MAN T.T
Hands down the best physics professor in Southern Nevada. At first, you will think Dr. Fiorenza is too nice. She really is. Her notes are impeccable, her response time to email inquiries is lightning fast, and she genuinely cares about every student.
While the lectures are great and interesting to watch, astronomy 104 is a challenging course itself. You would absolutely need to study hard for the exams in order to get a good grade. It's better to take 103 before taking on 104. Both classes are structured the same, but 103 prepares you.
Due to the nature of this being an Astronomy class it is going to be hard, but this teacher really puts the work in to try and ensure all students keep up! I will say there were a lot of paper handouts so be ready for that. Maybe have a crafty idea for an end of semester way to use all of those papers, trust me you'll have enough material!
Professor Fiorenza really tries to help students get a good grade in a tough subject. Her lectures covered the material really well and I really never had to read the book because her lectures clearly explained what you need to know!
She is really nice, and her lectures are very detailed and clear and theres plenty of visuals, And there's notes provided to help you study later on. Normally I struggle with retaining information but she's very good at making the material memorable, id definitely reccomend her class
Do not take this course unless you do not mind studying, reading, and doing homework for 40 hours a week. She also makes all tests and exams closed book. She also will treat you like crap if you take the class online and will treat you like a child. If you have a job or a family, then DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
She was late by at least 15 mins most days and would hold us over to make up for it. She is very picky about how you show your work. I learned physics and she is a decent teacher but doesn't respect her students time. My best advice is to write problems from hw and lec step by step on your exam sheet. Her grading scale is also pretty harsh.
CONSIDER TAKING THIS CLASS IN-PERSON! AST was a much harder science than anticipated. nothing on the professor, shes very sweet & easy to contact. she provides recording of the lectures when shes going over the notes, and the closed book tests are much easier when you do the homeworks. but I think most (esp me) would benefit taking it in person.
Professor Fiorenza's AST104 is challenging but engaging. Weekly homework and quizzes can be tough, but she's very helpful. Use Unstuck ai and the textbook to stay on top of the work.
You have to put in effort into the studying because the exams are heavy on your grade and that's what I struggled the most. The quizzes are not too heavy on your grade but do still study for those. You need a textbook but I didn't really use it and I was able to still pass. I took advantage of homework extra credit and was able to pass with a C.
Dr. Fiorenza sets her students up for success w/video lectures you can watch prior to class/after lecture to fully understand the material. This is physics, she is giving you a foundation to approach problems & develop the thought-process to conceptualize the material. I solo parent & she was accommodating when needed, do not take advantage of her.
I am following up on a previous rating to further comment. Dr. Fiorenza always stated you were more than welcome to leave when the class was over. Any extra time she went over was to ensure understanding of a problem that would benefit you on a quiz or exam. Although attendance is not mandatory, you want to he there for quizzes & group assignments.
Her class was really hard! I had to study for hours on end, but once I understood how she tests I was able to get an A in the class (I had a C on the first test). Take the test sheet seriously. If you put hw & lec example problems you will succeed!
Fiorenza is great and nice but class is VERY exam heavy, and exams are very hard as you have to remember every little detail. Study absolutely everything and you'll be okay. Textbooks weren't required as she uploaded required material (workbooks, lectures, notes) to canvas
Professor Fiorenza is an easy instructor with clearly defined grading parameters, but her constant lateness to class and the overall experience prevents me from reccomending her. You will be expected to watch precorded lectures, 30+ participation grades, and heavily weighted exams. It felt like an online course dressed as an in person.
Dr. Fiorenza is one of the best professors I've ever had! She's clearly put a TON of work into this course. You don't even need to read the textbook because she's made these super helpful guided notes for every chapter. You just fill them in while watching her videos or going through the slides. She replies to emails crazy fast. LOTSofextra credit!
Her lecture are really easy to follow and you can tell she cares about the subject a lot!
Dr. Fiorenza is very understanding and patient, and it's clear that she is immensely passionate about the subject she teaches. She is also quite generous with offering extra credit assignments every now and then. It's thanks to her that my prior knowledge of astronomy has grown. Overall, being her in her class was a pleasant experience.
Great class! Used Rate my Professors to find this class and glad I did! Participation (watching lectures, completing workbooks, taking notes) is mandatory and will really help you be successful on quizes, exams. There are extra - credit options. Dr. Fiorenza breaksdown complex concepts so that it is easy to understand.
Dr. Fiorenza is a great professor. Her passion for astrology has created a passion in me for the subject. She wants all her students to be successful and she welcomes open conversations about the subject. She makes sure you understand the material and her communication with you is unparalleled. Truly a joy to be her student.
Teaches with enthusiasm and passion. Open to questions and feedback. Quick response to emails and posting grades . Great Class !
I took both AST 103 & 104 with this professor and I enjoyed both classes. The class wasn't too difficult. but still requires some effort to follow along and understand the material. She is very passionate about her work and is more than willing to help he students if they have questions. It is well worth taking at least one class with her.
Dr. Fiorenza is an amazing professor, I think she is incredibly smart and knowledgeable, she can explain things really well in her lectures and truly gives students a lot of opportunities to be able to pass her class. I've taken both of her online classes; 103&104, both amazing. I can honestly say I've now considered a future in STEM.
I loved this class! Professor Fiorenza , one of a kind! Make sure you read the syllabus and stay on top of times and dates for homework/bookwork assignments! Be prepared for quizzes, some group activities, and to participate in class. I promise you won't regret taking astronomy. I'm thinking of changing my major. Thank you Professor Fiorenza
Dr. Fiorenza was an exceptional professor! I had her for AST 103 & 104. She has an immense passion for Astronomy, provides guided notes that summarize each chapter from the optional textbook, quickly responds to emails and comments, quickly grades assignments/quizzes, and offers many extra credit opportunities. I would 100% take her classes again!
Dr. Fiorenza is passionate about Astronomy! Her lectures are amazing, clear and informative. Don't skip the HW or completing the guided class notes - they are crucial for the quizzes and exams. If you do the work and submit it on time, this will be an easy class. She's a fast grader, is always available for questions, and provides extra credit.
Such an amazing and kind professor !! I took both AST 103&104 with her. If you can, take her class in person. Her passion for astronomy makes the lectures super engaging. She's always open to questions and provides enough tools for you to succeed. You'll do just fine if you put in the effort and pay attention. I can't recommend her enough!
She's a great professor. I took her class for a science credit and I'm glad I did, her work is not hard as long as you keep up with it and pay attention to what you're actually learning. I'd suggest taking her class in person as she will personally help during that time.
She has so many sources for you so that you don't get lost in all the experiments and solutions. She has videos, formulas, and more all prepared she was always willing to help me outside of class and was extremely kind. I would 100% take her again. She is very organized which is tremendous help and gets everything out on time.
Great professor, if all my classes could be taught by her it would be ideal. The class is easy as long as you do the assignments provided by the professor. She will respond if you reach out and is willing to sit with you and help if you have any questions. If you want to learn and have experience pick Dr. Fiorenza!
I loved this class! She presents the material in a fun but informative way. She's great you can tell she is very knowledgeable about what she's teaching and always there for any questions or help if you need it. Homework and quizzes are a breeze because its stuff that we talk about in class. Definitely recommend. 5stars. lol
I took her Astronomy class. Very fair professor. You do the work, you pay attention, you'll get a good grade. Very timely with grading. Pleasant and friendly to her students. No complaints here. I enjoyed her class.

Professor Fiorenza is incredible! She's so supportive and wonderful to her students. It's easy to tell she genuinely cares and wants you to succeed. She's passionate in her work, her guided notes for each chapter are easy to follow, and she gives quick responses to emails/comments. The extra credit opportunities were very helpful as well.
