She is a really fun teacher. The class is not too difficult. Attendance is not mandatory at all meetings, but you should attend... it makes your speeches way easier! From what I've heard about other teachers - take from her!!
I hate public speaking but this class changed my opinion. It was helpful and fun! Public Speaking isn't too bad! Fairly easy A
Sis. Freeman is very nice and funny and lectures hardly go the full 2.5 hrs. Show up and try, and you will get a good grade. Sis. Freeman is always there to help you if you have questions or need some help with a speech. I learned a lot from this class. It will help with your other classes and future life too. Take it, its easy/fun GE credit!
This was a great class! I really enjoyed her teaching style. She is a great teacher and really helps you progress in your speaking abilities! I highly recommend the class and trust me...she makes the 2 and a half hours FLY by!!!!
Great class. You get great public speaking experience from this class, and learn how to keep an audience captivated.
Best class i took this semester! I loved it!!
Sister Freeman was great. I learned alot from this class. She made it fun and shared some really funny story too. I would definitely recommend this class.
Sister Freeman made the class FUN and provided a comfortable environment for our class. She is very understanding and fair, and has a relaxed teaching style. She involves the class in her lessons and is not some boring teacher that just lectures on notes the entire class period; like I said, it was fun, but we still learned a lot.
She was a great teacher because she was there to help the students. She is there beause she loves what she does, public speaking, and wants to share that with others. I enjoyed her class very much.
Sister freeman is really cool and if you want to get an A in the class all you need to do is practice your speech bofore and you will do well. Its a fun easy class.
Sister Freeman is a great teacher. She not only teaches the subject well but she is very helpful with anything you do. If you are struggling with speaking she will help you any way that you can. Overall the class really isn't too hard. It's a fun, comfortable environment. I really reccommend taking this class, one of my favorites!
Professor Freeman is very professional and eager to help her students do well. She isn't overly easy, but she is flexible when she sees that a student is having problems. Her evening, one-day-per-week class is a little long and sometimes hard to sit through, but she usually tries to break up the monotony with something fun and interesting.
Sister Freeman made this class interesting and fun while also teaching us valuable public speaking skills. I would definitely encourage someone to take this class because the speaking assignments are reasonable and you learn skills that you will definitely need and use throughout the rest of your life...especially us, LDS folk :)
The course was enjoyable and really quite easy. However, don't let the fact that the class is easy let you think you don't need to practice your speeches before hand. If you want an A you must research and rehearse your speeches well. Just follow the outlines posted online very carefully.
This class and Prof. Freeman were great. I learned a lot about public speaking, she did a great job explaining the concepts, and the class was a lot of fun. The homework (speeches) was reasonable and useful. I'd highly reccomend her and this class.
She was really fun and cool. Assignments weren't too bad. You'll get a good grade if you show up and do all the work. You'll get an A if you try and do things very well.
What an exciting class to take! Sister Freeman really knows how to involve you in the class and prepare you well for speeches. As long as you attend all your classes(if not, you'll miss out on the treats) and make a goal to practice before you deliver each speech, you will succeed and have a blast all at the same time.
She's easy to work with. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she gives quizes at the beginning of occasional classes.
The class was a break from my other stressful class. S. Freeman is really helpful, she gives us tons of opportunities to get good grades. She teaches really well, and brought us treats sometimes, I really recommend taking this class from her.
This was the best class! I learned so much! Sister Freeman is fun, kind, and interested in seeing us succeed in her class. She is always prepared and keeps the 2+ hours interesting. All the work is useful and worth the effort. If you follow the directions, prepare and practice you can get an A. I tell everyone to take this class/teacher!
I loved this class!!! I learned so much about how to make better presentations of material and of my own person! This class really helped me organize my abilities and channel skill to make me a more persuasive and analytical person. A++++++
Sister Freeman is a great professor! She is very friendly and kind, and you can tell she really cares about her students. The assignments and readings are never busy work. She is very fair in her grading, and a lot of fun in class. Definately take this class from her!
Really great teacher. She made class fun and entertaining. Occasional class quiz, but's not hard at all if you've done the reading. (Sometimes you take the quiz as a group) She is really clear on what she expects on the speeches. You won't regret taking this class. It's A+ material! She even brought treats sometimes!
This is a sweet class! As long as you practice your speech at least 3 times, you will do just fine. Oh, there are occasional quizzes but they are easy. Your last speech is a party!
Professor Freeman is an amazingly fun and exciting teacher. She doesn't put too much pressure on you in class or out of class. Assignments are extremely reasonable and you will learn a great deal of public speaking principles that will only increase your ability to speak in public. I would recommend her class to anyone that is interested.
I had a fear of public speaking before I took this class and now I feel alot more comfortable speaking in public because I know how to. I would definately take this class because it can help you no matter what you go into.
This is a great class and Sister Freeman is an excellent teacher. If you need an extra three credit class, be sure to take this! It's not hard, only once a week, and will really help to improve your communication skills! I didn't have bad skills at first, but it helped me improve and now I can present without saying "ummm"!
This a wonderful class to learn and develop public speaking skills. To organize your speech efficiently, how to capture your audience through different techniques, and how to master a variety of speeches(persuasive, informative, etc).Awesome Class!
This is a wonderful class! It really helped me to improve my public speaking and communication abilities, both skills that are useful and necessary throughout life. Sis. Freeman is an excellent teacher and extremely helpful! If you need 3 extra credits or just want to improve your public speaking skills, this is a great class to take.
This class was fun, and I feel like I learned a lot. I was dreading the class before it started, but she did a great job of making us comfortable and helping us feel like a class unit and not just a bunch of students. The teacher is funny and engaging, and she gives great feedback. I would recommend this class to anyone.
If you are looking for a three credit class to take, take this one! Sister Freeman really engages the class, and classtime is interactive and educational. Public speaking is a vital skill, and TMA 150 is a great way to prepare for the career world in a fun and non-intimidating way.
I must admit that I took this class merely to fulfill my credits to graduate however once enrolled I thoroughly enjoyed the course. This is one of those classes that will be challenging as it is a public speaking class and you have to present in front of your peers. With the challenge however comes the greatest opportunity for growth.
This class allows you to develop skills that you will undoubtedly use later in life. Sister Freeman has a genuine interest in her students, and creates a non-threatening and comfortable atmosphere in the classroom. By the end of the semester, I definitely felt that I got something out of this class.
TMA 150, Public speaking is a great class. Sister Freeman is a wonderful teacher and makes this class a blast. Students are still expected to work but she is happy to help (even if that means grading a paper at 1 AM). The material she covered was very helpful, I also found that I learned a great deal researching different topics.
The more powerful tool we have in life is communication and especially speaking. And this is taught in TMA 150 by Sister Freeman. You will love this class because the environment and techniques created by Sister Freeman will help you develop your speaking skills, even for someone shy like me. Don't be afraid of taking this class as I was.
Professor Freeman was a fun professor. This is a class for aquiring skills, not just knowledge. She did a great job of helping us to gain confidence, practice, and improve our public speaking abilities. I also enjoyed the level of interaction with other classmates that she included in the class.

If you are looking for an enjoyable class, that is fairly low stress, yet one of the most beneficial classes you can take while at BYU - whether you are a biology or an MFHD major - this class is a must for all majors!
Are you one of those people that constantly repeat "ummm....umm" or "like....." or "uh...." when speaking in front of people. Do you get nervous afraid of making eye contact and can't stop moving when talking? Well, this was the old me, un approachable and anti-social, until....I met Sister Freeman. She has all the answers to overcome stage frig

TMA 150 is a beginning speech class that teaches you not only how to give articulate and well-spoken speeches but it also teaches you how to have better conversations.
This class is one of the most beneficial classes I have ever taken in college. We learned about and practiced many different types of speeches that will be beneficial in many aspects of your life. The overall course load is light so dont worry about it being time consuming. The prof. is very helpful and the class is very casual you wont regret it.
Whether or not you expect to be in front of groups during your career, this class will help you further develop speaking and persuasive skills. Sister Freeman truthfully wants her students to learn and succed in life. She gives great feedback and never makes anyone who doesn't speak well uncomfortble. This class is a can't miss.
I was skeptical of this class at the beginning, because I had heard that it was so easy. However, the course is one of the best I have ever taken. Much of the course focuses on actually speaking, which was very helpful. The text, which was simply printed off of Blackboard, was very clear and will be a valuable resource for the future. Great Class!
I am glad to say that I have learned much in this class. Speaking skills are very important for any major. You will learn how to organize a speech. Have you really ever had a well organized speech? I would highly recommend Sister Freeman, she really cares about her students, she will help so that you can become the great speaker that you are.
Public speaking has never been one of my talents or something I enjoy, but I have really enjoyed this class. I feel like my confidence to speak in front of people has increased. The class is not a very stressful class and is actually very enjoyable. I encourage all students no matter what your major is to take this class.
This is a class that absolutely everyone should take. No matter your profession, you need to know how to speak in front of people. And there is no one better to take it from than sister Freeman. She will help you as much as you request it. Loved the class and learned tons.
I was amazed that it wasn’t the quality of the paper but how the speech was presented really affected what I learned. It is easy to ****ume how well one would do giving a speech because the principles are easy to get butit is really difficulty. Sr. Freeman is helpful and will give you personal feedback on what you specifically need to improve on.
This was a very enjoyable class, A very laid back atmosphere, and the professor was very helpful. I highly recommend the class for those who would like to improve your speaking skills. The class isn't intimidating at all, nor does Stephanie Freeman try to make anyone uncomfortable when they are giving their speaches. Very easy class
I learned much more than how to speak, but how to prepare to speak which makes all the difference. Sis. Freeman shows you tools to organize yourself to help you sound poised in a speech.
I have improved so much in my public speaking ability! Sister Freeman expounds well on everything we cover in class. I was able to use the skills and tips from her in all my other classes! She really cares about her students. She's really helpful and loves to give useful feedback. Take her class and you will hopefully enjoy it as much as I did!
Regardless of your experience with public speaking this class will be beneficial. Sister Freeman is fun, interesting, and she really draws you in. If you want to improve your speaking skills AT ALL (and fulfill your Arts & Letters Requirement) take this class. You will NOT be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this class. The assignments are varied enought that the class has something interesting for everyone. More than just learning how to speak, I learned how to organize ideas in a way that is helpful for writing papers in all my classes. Even though I learned a lot, the class has a casual atmosphere, and we all became friends.
Sister Freeman is an awesome teacher. She is nice and caring and I learned a lot in her class. She puts a lot of effort and preparation into making sure we learn. She also teaches by example (she's good at speaking!).
You will learn a lot in this class. Sister Freeman is an excellent teacher. It's a very hands on class, and you grade yourself as much as she does. She is never critical. She always builds us up. She really cares and creates a wholesome learning environment, thats why you learn in her class.
Sister Freeman was very helpful and encouraging and understood the weaknesses of others and the fears they face in her class. All lectures were helpful and clear in pointing to what makes a great speech and speaker. She focuses on the improvement of the student and obviously understands their level of improvement and grades accordingly and fairly.
Going into into this class I was worried about how I would do. I am not terrified to speak in public, but I do not thrive on it. Sister Freeman and the setup of the public speaking class helped me to overcome my weaknesses. Anyone can take this class and not only do well, but leave with the ability to speak fluently in most any speaking situation.
Sister Freeman is the best professor you could have for Public Speaking. She is knows what she's doing and how to explain it well. She's very personable and easy to approach, and she'll always give you a break if you have a good reason. She has a whole range of fun and challenging activities to help students at every level. Don't miss this class!
Public speaking is nerve-wracking, but Sister Freeman definitely made the class as stress-free as possible. She has a fun & engaging teaching style & helps even the worst of public speakers to feel more comfortable. Through her class setup, you don't feel overwhelmed by having to speak in front of everyone. She does a great job; I highly recommend!
I love this class. you can learn a lot from this class. Also, sister freeman is always wiling to help. so, if you want to learn how to speak, you should take this class. It will really helpful to your life.
This has definitely been one of the most helpful classes that I have taken at BYU. You learn so much about being an effective and polished speaker. Sister Freeman is always willing to give feedback about the content of your speech before you present. This class has also helped me do well in other classes where I've had to give an oral presentation.
Are you shy and get the jitters when you have to speak in public? Well this is the class to take! You learn how to start and construct a speech and are in small classroom setting when delivering your speech. You do fun activities throughout the semester to improve your public speaking skills. This class is not hard and Sister Freeman is great!
No matter what your major is, learning to speak in front of others will be crucial to success. We may be asked to sell ourselves, our ideas, our writing, or our company's product. Members of the LDS Church also conduct meetings, speak, and teach. This class is invaluable in teaching you how to make the most out of all these situations. TAKE IT!
I think everyone should take this class!! Especially if you are a communications or business major. I am a comms major and know that I'll have PLENTY of opportunities to speak in front of others and this class definitely helped me to get over my fears! challenging, but doable! sister freeman is awesome-and she brings treats to class!
Sister Freeman is a great teacher! She knows what she is talking about when it comes to public speaking and if you listen and apply the principles she teaches, you will be a great speaker! Its a course you must take! You wont regret it!!!!
Such a great class! Not only was is still fun, but I learned how to really speak in front of people. You still have to put in the effort, but its still a lot of fun and Sister Freeman will help you with whatever you need. Awesome class, I totally recommend!
Sis Freeman is the greatest speech teacher. She is very understanding and willing to work with you. You only have to give 6 speeches! You only have to go to class once a week and you rarely stay for the entire time. It is three credits! Last, but not least, you get to learn how to speak well in front of others without getting nervous.
Learning to speak in front of others while being clear, interesting and understood is a very important trait to have throughout your whole life. With this class you are able to learn this skill, while having fun doing it! It will forever bless you in anything you do, whether conducting a meeting, or speaking without preparation. It will benefit YOU
This class was very good. Not very challenging, but you learn alot about giving different types of speeches. Sister Freeman is a very good teacher, understanding and helpful and keeps things interesting. I would recomend this class to any major.
Sister Freeman is a great teacher. She made class enjoyable and we ate treats every week. I learned a lot and got some good practice speaking in front of my peers.
She's a great teacher. Before this class I hated speaking in public, I'd get nervous and could barely look at the audience. Now I have no problem speaking in front of people, I still get a little nervous but I can hide it easily and not let it affect my performance. There's no busy work, everything assigned is designed to help you with speaking.
I loved this class! And I loved Sister Freeman! She is such a great example to her students. I was always able to feel the spirit in her class. It seems that a lot of teachers take for granted that this is BYU, but Sister Freeman always invites the spirit with prayer and tying in gospel principles. Also we have treats just about every class! Woo!
Freeman is a great teacher with real care and concern for her students. She will help improve your confidence as much as she can. If you have qualms about public speaking this class is for you! TMA 150 will teach you 6 types of speaking, all of which will benefit you. TMA 150 was an applicable & enjoyable class. I would highly recommend Freeman!
It is obvious that Sister Freeman enjoys her job. This creates a great learning atmosphere. She works hard to keep the course interesting, and is very knowledgeable on the course material. She will provide the best chance for you to improve on your speaking skills.
Sister Freeman is an awesome teacher. During my first semester at BYU she was incredibly understanding and accomadating despite some of my "freshman stupidity." You can really tell that she is really passionate about public speaking and she tries to inspire her students with that same passion. Just overall a great teacher and a great class!
disregard these other comments- our class got 5 EXTRA CREDIT points for writing a positive comment about Sister Freeman on here. unethical? I think so.
I took this class & loved it! My friends did too! Its true that Sister Freeman gave 5 pts for doing extra things, like, a paper, a movie, speak outside class, recruit a friend, or make a comment here. But why lie? If you did shame on you! You should choose another option. Sister Freeman is great & so is the class! I still recommend it to everyone!
Taking this course was extremely beneficial. Although I didn't consider myself significantly deficient in public speaking skills, I learned about what little subtle improvements one can make to enhance a speech.
This was a really useful and fun class. I like all the in-class activities that helped me improve my speaking skills. It is nice to have a professor who knows me by name and cares about me doing well. I also liked how quickly my email questions were answered. The class is not too hard, but you have to do the work to get a good grade.
this was a great class. i was very uncomfortable with public speaking prior to taking the class, but now i feel much more confident. the in class practice helps you gradually move to larger audiences. The work isnt too bad, you only have to give about 5 speeches or so. great class.
Public Speaking is a skill that EVERYONE will need at some point, so I would strongly recommend this class. I was always scared of speaking in public, and this class has put me out of my comfort zone, but I think I have learned and improved. And it's not TOO scary because classes are small. Homework is minimal, and the text is online! Great class!
This class was useful. I now sit in sacrament meetings and critique the speakers..haha. I learned quite a bit about publick speaking, and there is a lot more to it than I thought. Freeman is good and clear...a little boring but it's an easy A as long as you do the speeches and go to class.
She really does help with anything you need. The class is casual and fun. Whether you need the clas or not, the grading isn't hard and you can make an A!
This class helped me a lot. I've always had a hard time with public speaking, but in this class Dr. Freeman really helps you get over fears by having you speak in front of a small group and then work your way up. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their public speaking skills. Freeman is an awesome teacher!
Sister Freeman is a great teacher. She is very helpful and the class is in a non-threatening setting.I was scared of public speaking but after this class you learn everything you need to know and correct speech to use. I highly recommend. Best teacher for class.
this class is great as a pre-requisite for another program or even just to improve your skills when speaking to an audience. this helped me even with my job and talking with people. it's an easy a as long as you're on the ball and do the assignments. sister freeman is the bomb - don't take it from anyone else!
Professor Freeman is a great teacher, you will learn a lot in this class on how to improve your speaking skills. The only hard thing about the class was having to write speeches to present. Other than that it was very straight-forward. Professor Freeman is also very understanding.
I was required to take this class for a general education credit. I didn't want to take it because I already have performing experience, but it was extremely helpful, especially for speaking on special occasions where you would have to write your own piece. I think it is important for everyone to take a class that teaches you to present yourself.
This was a very intimidating subject for me but this class helped me to overcome my anxiety. The tools Prof. Freeman gives the students in this class teaches you how to take the speech step by step. With good prepartion using the techniques presented in this class gives you the confidence and ability to give good speeches.
Pretty good class. Not really hard. And she brings snacks!
Fun class. 4 speeches during the semester and just 2 in front of all the class. Everybody feels the same so it makes it fun. She brings treats 90% of the time. The class helped me tons!.
Fun class! Learned principles that will help me throughout my life, unlike many other college classes. She is a very energetic teacher and grades fairly. You give three speeches Not a lot of homework and she usually lets you out of class early! Highly recommended.
Lacking in self esteem, organization, or eloquence when speaking?! Your solution is here- Stephanie Freeman is a professor who will help you discover your hidden talents when it comes to public speaking. Through gradual audience sizes you will become more and more comfortable in your capability to speak. There is no textbook to read from (which

This class rocks! If you are looking for a class that will benefit you in all your future career goals or hobbies this is it. You also become a great listener from this class. I would highly recommend this class to any that feel interested. You won't be disappointed. Sister Freeman is very nice and understanding.
Stephanie Freeman is an extremely informative professor. She explains with excellent clarity and inspires. I highly recommend her.
If you learn how to speak well now, it will pay dividends your whole life. I had no interest in this class. But I have gained so much ability and confidence to speak my mind and present arguments. I strongly recommend taking this class. Not only is Prof Freeman engaging and easy-going prof, but the class is simple, fun, and worth it.
This is the most practical and enjoyable class that I have taken here at BYU. Sister Freeman is knowledgable and helpful. From day one she creates an atmosphere of cooperation and learning. Working with fellow students is fun and in-class activities are useful. Highly recommended class and teacher!
I only took this course because it was a pre-req and didn't know what to expect. This has definately been the most relaxed and enjoyable class I have taken. I've learned things that will improve my speaking skills in almost every setting. Prof Freeman makes this class so enjoyable and fun. If you put forth the effort, you'll learn much and do well!
Wonderful teacher. She really is concerned for her students, and goes the extra mile to help them out. The things I learned in this class will be very helpful in so many aspects of my life. I would highly recommend taking public speaking from Stephanie Freeman.
Great class & helpful teacher! Very non-threatening environment, you learn lots of good practical advice you can use when speaking in the real world: at work, at school, at church, etc. Sis. Freeman is very knowledgeable & really wants to help everyone succeed. I highly recommend this class. Everyone can benefit - no matter their experience level.
She is a very good teacher! If you want to learn how to organize a speech on how to make speeches effective, she is the teacher to should seek. She is extremely helpful. She wants you to be better and will do all in her power to help you become better. Her classes are not very big because she likes to give individual attention. Great class!
I found this class to be extremely helpful, often times it is difficult to find the application of college courses in everyday life, this was not the case with public speaking, Sister Freeman went out of her way to ensure we gained a great understanding of speaking. this is a class i recommend as it develop skills you will use thought out your life
This class is applicable to any major. If anyone has fears of public speaking, this is the perfect place to get rid of them; its a very encouraging environment. She is a womderful teacher and gives positive and constructive feedback. I took it in the summer and it wasn't overwhelming at all. Everyone should take it in college.
Public speaking is a very important skill and is often put off until the end of your schooling. But I would suggest that you take this class first because it helps you in your class presentations, Internship and job interviews and in everyday speech. Sister Freeman was able to deliver very clear lessons and helpful projects. Take this class!
Great teacher, I had a lot of fun in her public speaking class and I don't really ENJOY speaking in public. So it was good experience and I learned alot for future life experiences.
This was the best class I have taken here at BYU. I learned so much. Sister Freeman is so nice, personable, and effective in her teaching. She also brought treats sometimes which was nice. The activites in class were fun. It is a smaller class, which helps. I highly recommend this class to everyone, no matter your major.
Sister Freeman can keep talking for hours... and yet never makes you feel bored. She's a great speaker and i felt priviliged to be taught by such a speaker. Her voice varieties and her power just dashes. On top of that, she is the nicest professor ever. She can be of any help you want. But make sure u come to class, even just to eat her treats.
I thought that she talked a bit too much. I mean it's a speaking class, and we're supposed to do more of the speaking, but I thought she spoke too much, and didn't give us enough opportunity to practice ourselves. I would have preferred that. That's about it.
Good class. Do the assignments and get them in on time and there is no reason why you won't get an A. She is willing to help and make sure you do well. Sincere teacher.
This was a very useful class. I like the in-class activities and being with students in smaller groups. 2 1/2 hours is a bit long, but Sister Freeman uses the time well to help us improve speech skills. I liked that she had us grade ourselves, because I now know what makes a great speech. Do the assignments and you get a great grade.
Professor Freeman is very skilled in public speaking and her teaching shows it. She knows how to help the students learn the important parts of public speaking and her class is organized in a way that you can overcome your own fear of speaking in public. Different speeches are due mostly every week but the class is great. Highly Suggest!!
This was a great class. I just recommended it to my friends. Sister Freeman is entertaining and knowledgable. I liked all the speaking activities. It helped me to overcome my anxieties. I feel that I am a better speaker now that I have taken the class.
Public speaking was a blast! I loved the class. Each time we met, which is only once each week, I learned something new. It's a small class and it's great to work with other students. Sister Freeman is very sincere and helpful. One of the best classes I've had here at the Y.
Sister Freeman is a great teacher who really cares about her students and making sure something is learned every class period (she even brings food!). I took this because it's a required course for me but still quite enjoyed it and learned a fair amount. I was already fairly good at public speaking but still learned quite a bit.
Just finished the Independent Study speech course. Mrs. Freeman posted my grades quickly and was very helpful and positive in her feedback. The assignments were easy and if I did them correctly, I received full points. I learned a lot even though it is an online course. What a quick and easy way to get credits! Highly Recommended!
This was a really great class! I took it online and finished it in about a month. Prof. Freeman gives great feedback and responded to my emails quickly. I learned a lot. I like how I could submit all the assignments online. Easy wasy to take the class!
This was the best courses I have taken in my 3 years at BYU. Sis. Freeman & the course, itself, helped me refine my speaking skills. Sis. Freeman was helpful & willing to work one on one. She gave extremely useful feedback & did so in a timely manner. I would recommend both this teacher & course to any BYU student in a heartbeat.
Loved this class. It was easy to take online. Prof. Freeman was very personal, quick to respond to my emails, and gave great feedback on lessons. I learned a lot and received a great grade! Take this class online - quick way to earn 3 credits if you're motivated!
This is the best class I have ever taken! My friend told me to take it from Sis Freeman. I loved it! There are tons of fun class activities that help you learn the skills. I earned an A! Sis Freeman said she only teaches in the Fall, but if you can get in her class it's worth it.
I took this though BYU independent study. It was quick and easy to get through, but I learned a ton. Professor Freeman responds to questions by the next business day. So long as you follow the directions, this class is an easy A.
This was a great class - I wish I would have taken it sooner, the skills I learned would've helped me in my other classes. Mrs. Freeman is quick to respond to emails and grades assignments within a couple days. I was able to complete the course in two months! Great learning experience & teacher! Cheap tuition too.
Best online class I have ever taken. Prof. Freeman is an awesome online instructor. Her feedback was personal, positive and helpful. All my assignments were graded within days of submission. Reading material was easy to understand and taught me useful skills. Speeches were easy to record on my computer and email in for credit. Earned an A!
It is great that this class is offered online. I just had to record my speeches from my computer and email them to the professor. I was able to do it in just less than two months and I learned a ton. Feedback was helpful and I feel more confident in my speaking ability. I am going to recommend it to my friends.
Awesome class and professor. I learned so much about public speaking to help me improve because I wasn't very good at it. Now I am more confident. The professor is really good at telling me what to do to improve and kind too. It took only a couple months to finish it online. I wish all teachers and classes were as good as this one.
Best class and teacher on campus! This is the kind of class that you get to know all the students and it is fun. Class is designed for anyone to learn speech skills in an easy and caring enviroment. I took it a year and a half ago and just visited with the professor to get a recommendation for my grad school. She still remembers me!
I just want to thank you for teaching me all about Public Speaking. I appreciate your feedback and thank you for grading my assignments in such a short time,I am very grateful for your efforts. I will highly recommend this course. May God bless you.
I received useful feedback on all of my speeches. I enjoyed the class! I am pleasantly surprised as I thought I wasn't going to like it. I appreciated the promptness of responses, most of my other instructors are not as quick. I learned a lot.
Now that I have completed the course I would just like to say thank you for all the help and guidance. I would have not been able to finish the course without it. Thank you for the quick returns and in depth feedback. But most importantly I really appreciate how you manage to cultivate me into someone who can publicly speak. Thank you so much!
She is the BEST! We have snacks every class and it's really laid back and social interaction. If you do everything in a reasonable time it's easy to do well. She is super nice about everything and funny. You don't have to buy any textbooks either!
Sister Freeman is a great teacher. The class is extremely easy - probably too easy for a 3 credit class. We have snacks every class and usually get out significantly early.
This was the best class that I have taken at BYU. I learned a lot of useful skills that I have already used in interviews and my other classes. Freeman gives great feedback. There were about 7 speeches, outlines, quizzes on reading, a FREE text, and NO EXAMS! I looked forward to going each week. As mentioned there were snacks during break.
Thank you very much for this course. I really learned a lot. I felt myself gaining more confidence with each speech I had to prepare, write, and record. At first I couldn't believe that an online course can teach me the ins and outs of public speaking, but now I see that it is indeed possible and even enjoyable.
Sister Freeman is AWESOME! Public speaking was a great class to take, because it helped improve skills that will be used in any career path! Sister Freeman cares about the kids in her class, and helps you out whenever you need it! The speeches take time to prepare and practice, but they are fun to present, and listen to others present! TAKE TMA150!
Took her online course, so can only speak to that. Helpful feedback, fair grader. Not the way to go if u really want to learn public speaking, due to the limitations of online courses, but it will suffice to earn you a good grade and fulfill requirements as long as you put the work in.
This class was an enjoyable experience for me. As an educator, I found it challenging, practical, and fulfilling. I appreciated the insightful feedback provided by Ms. Freeman; it was professional, objective, honest, thoughtful, and encouraging. I will highly recommend this professor and course to others.
Prof. is good at helping people de-stress, works well with students. Quickly replies to questions. Feedback is constructive/positive. Grading was generous/fair. I'll be recommending this course/prof to my friends who are doing degree completion, and on the discussion forums, where the other students all speak very highly of it and the prof.
AWESOME course and teacher!
This is the BEST class! I already had speaking experience; however, Prof. Freeman helped me develop skills that are essential for powerful communication and taught me new things. She is very personable and gives great feedback. There is a fair amount of speaking, activities, outlines, reading, & quizzes. Text is FREE! Final & Midterm are speeches!
Great professorclass! This should be a required class. It was treated more like a lab with a lot of speaking opportunities. Work in groups at the beginning with less pressure and make friends. Quizzes on reading are taken online. It is obvious that Prof. Freeman really cares about the students and wants them to succeed in learning. Free text!
This was a very useful course. 9 Lessons, speech assignments, and quizzes. Text is included online and course is well organized. Grading criteria and instructions are clear. Feedback is constructive and kind. Instructor is personable in feedback and emails. I enjoyed learning from this professor and in this format. Highly recommended!
The online class is very organized and easy to navigate. 9 quizzes are open book. Textbook is online with examples and videos. One speech assignment for each lesson - 9 lessons total. Can go as fast as you want through the course, took me just 2 months. Helpful feedback on speeches. I will recommend this class and teacher to friends.
This was a challenging class for me because I do not like speaking but I will be able to use the skills from this class with everything else I do in college and work. Very organized course with personal feedback from the prof. I am a better speaker because of this course.
AMAZING! Glad I took this class. New favorite class at BYU! Prof. Freeman is engaging as a teacher. I learned a ton and I thought I was already a good speaker - haha. 7 speeches, a few open book quizzes, and NO TESTS!!!! Instructions & assign were clear. More courses should be taught this way! Want to take an advance course now.
LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this teacher and class! She is inspirational in her examples and kind in how she treats us. She was VERY helpful and did personal consultations for the final speeches. All the class activities made the time fly and helped us learn the concepts in a fun way. I want to take another class from Professor Freeman!
I LOVED Sister Freeman and this class! She treated us kindly and helped us develop our skills as individuals rather than generically. She treated class time more like a speech lab and gave us plenty of practice and fun activities to develop specific skills. This made formal presentations easier! NO TESTS! A few open book quizzes. TEXT IS FREE!
BYU Online STDEV 150 Public Speaking is flexible! Text is included & used to guide you through the assignments. Quizzes are open book. Speeches are practical & enjoyable. I choose my own audience for each speech, which made it more relevant. Prof. Freeman gave helpful feedback. I highly recommend this class & professor! It's an AMAZING experience!
A friend recommended this professor to me. Freeman knows her topic and is a good example of what she teaches. I learned how to be an effective speaker and the skills already help me in my other classes, interviews, and talks at school and work. Generous grader if you follow the criteria, gives helpful feedback. Well organized class. Take Freeman!
Best online course I've taken. It was flexible and organized. The material was easy to understand, with lots of examples, and the assignments were fun and practical. Chose my own audiences. There are no tests, just one quiz and assignment for each of the 9 lessons. Prof. Freeman gave helpful and kind feedback. I was able to finish 2 weeks early.
Prof. Freeman is the bomb! The class is just what I needed & not too hard. I HATE speaking but this class helped me deal with my fear in a fun way. Freeman is entertaining and knows her stuff. She motivated me to do well. Her feedback is spot on. I want to take her other class, STDEV 214 Advanced speech, lol. Never thought I would like speech!
I laughed when I saw public speaking was online! I thought it would be a breeze & I could get away with just writing & reading speeches. I was wrong & I'm glad! This course is AMAZING! Great professor, who gives the best feedback but is merciful with weaknesses. Text is included, open book quizzes, NO tests!I'd take this class again in a heartbeat!
Best online class I have ever taken. It is organized, flexible, and the workload is practical. Dr. Freeman gives excellent suggestions on how to improve and is quick in grading. No exams. No text. All you do is read the lesson, take a quiz, write an outline, then record your speech. Easy and inspirational. Wish she would write more online courses.
Great teacher! Very good at explaining herself over email and in videos. Enjoyable class! I would highly recommend it to all. Even though it is online, we had opportunities to share our speeches with others which is good because I know it helped me get over my anxiety. I learned so much and it was fun!
Even though it's online, we had opportunities to share speeches with other people and practiced in front of a live audience of our choice, which helped me deal with my stagefright. Prof. Freeman was really good about giving feedback and creating the trust needed to make me feel more comfortable. The class is doable in a term, 7 weeks during summer.
I admire Prof. Freeman's ability to make an online class seem very personal. The feedback was invaluable. Her kind words and encouragement throughout the course helped motivate me to improve. I have always struggled with public speaking and I believe I'm now much better. I will use the valuable skills learned in this class throughout my life.
Just finished and I have only praise for Prof. Freeman and her online class. It's well organized. It has 9 lessons with an assignment, 7 of them are speeches, and open quiz for each. I greatly improved in my skills and knowledge. Plus, it was fun with some class interaction. I didn't think an online speech class would work but this one does.
Prof. Freeman is incredible! Her course is easy to follow and fun. I got behind in class because of a couple mini vacations (it was summer) and asked if I could make up the missed work and she was very kind about it. Liked that there was some interaction in the class through extra credit posts. Overall, it was a very positive experience.
Professor Freeman was amazing! She gave amazing constructive feedback after every speech I submitted, which motivated me to do better on my next speech. Although it was only a term class I felt like I learned a lot about my self, how to build my confidence to speak publicly and how I can continue to improve my speaking abilities throughout my life.
This online class is very well organized. Assignments are well distributed, with a speaking assignment every other week and quizzes, which are open book. The free text is personable and easy to read. She also has some instructional videos. Good opportunities to interact with other students. Extra credit helps - be sure to do it.
This was such a convenient way to take this class, it was flexible so I could choose when to do it each week. I liked working with a few other students too. Teacher feedback was helpful and positive. Assignment load is reasonable and some assignments are easy. Only two speeches were more challenging. Great class, highly recommend!
Dr. Freeman has designed a great course. Concepts help with other classwork and work. Nine lessons are doable in less than 9 weeks. Weekly deadlines are flexible. Material has good video examples, visuals, and explanations. Feedback is great and grading generous. Wish there was another course taught by Dr. Freeman, I would take it.
I tried to sign up for Prof. Freeman's BYU Online section but it remained full. So, instead I took it through BYU Independent Study, which was the best! I completed the course ahead of schedule! Tuition is less than on-campus. Course is engaging and easy to follow with only 9 lessons & quizzes, and 7 speech assignments. I'd recommend it to all!
As I navigate online classes with all my professors due to COVID19, I see how valuable this speech course is. Workload is light, it's easy to follow, assignments are purposeful, good examples and instruction, & peronal helpful feedback. Freeman should teach other professors how to write online courses. If you need this class Freeman is the BEST!
LOVE, LOVE this online course, it's incredible! Just when covid19 hijacked my classes and put them haphazardly online, this one is smooth to navigate and do on my own. My emails are quickly replied to with helpful feedback. Course is professionally laidout, easy to follow, and assignments are purposeful. It has kept me sane during this crazy time!
Just finished the online course. Easy to do with VERY helpful information. Prof. Freeman was quick to give me detailed feedback on each speech. The nine lessons are well written with good videos and visuals. It took less than an hour to read a lesson and then take an open quiz. You get to choose your own topics for all the speeches. Learned a ton!
Great online class that has more rewards than just a good grade. It is organized, has a balanced workload that isn't busy work, and the comments from Prof. Freeman are very encouraging. I learned so much and enjoyed it! Just pace your homework each week in your own time and you can complete it early. No text, it is all online with good examples.
I just got my grade back... A! I thought it would be an A- but she curved up! This class was a constant amid the chaos of COVID. It is organized, easy to do, and has inspiring messages that made me want to keep going. The comments by Prof. Freeman were kind and helpful. She was also quick to reply to my emails. Overall a great experience!
If I could rate Prof Freeman higher, I would. She's amazing and the class is incredibly easy to follow. When I had questions, she was there, literally, just emailed and she replied back. The 9 lessons are motivating and I learned so much from the readings, videos, examples, practices, extra-credit, and her feedback. I highly reccomend!
Glad I took this class from Prof. Freeman. I HAD to take an online course and this one was organized with assignments that made sense. I got behind and emailed to explain my situation and she was totally cool and gave me the opportunity to make up the work and offered extra credit. Best online class and teacher!
Best class I have ever taken online. Prof. Freeman is organized, reasonable in workload, purposeful in giving assignments, and gives you every chance to earn an A. Offers extra credit if you need it. I did a couple online consultations via zoom and her advice was spot on. I learned so many skills that will help me while in school and long after.
Great class! Learned a ton just from Dr Freeman's content, including short videos (which I watched at 1.5x, wish I could do that for my live classes, lol.) You choose your own subjects for the speeches and only 3 were worth a ton of points, others were minor, so don't sweat it cause she a gracious grader. Classwork took about 1-2 hours a week.
Thought this class would be a waste online but I was wrong! I learned a ton and it was completely doable. Assignments are balanced each week with a quiz mid week and then sometimes a speech at the end, it felt pretty flexible. The course is personalized as you can get for online. Pro. Freeman connects well with students and is motivating.
I'm so thankful for Pro. Freeman! Assignments open in advance, so I finished early. I did the optional consultations, which were incredibly helpful. She gave good feedback on my speeches so I could improve. Open-book quizzes. No textbook to buy. Easy but well written course kept me motivated and engaged. I feel much more confident as a speaker!
This class is the best online experience I had during this last year of online courses. It's organized, reasonable in assignments, and Prof. Freeman replies quickly to emails. I missed a some assignments due to travel but she worked with me. There's also extra credit. I learned a ton in the course that I will use in all I do going forward.
Just saw my grade for the summer term and I'm grateful, Pro. Freeman is generous. The online course is well written with videos and clear instructions. Deadlines for the week were pretty flexible. I received helpful feedback for all my speeches from the prof. I learned valuable skills I can use for everything from school to work to church.
She's great. Doing it online was super easy, she really cares and gives good feedback. There's kind of a lot of reading to do for each lesson, but you can just skim it or don't read it at all and still get full points on the open note quiz with each lesson.
Okay to be fair- I just HATE public speaking. It gives me so much anxiety. So maybe this class wasn't my favorite subject - but it was a really awesome class that taught me so much about how to be a better public speaker. I learned so many new tips and tools that I can use forever now. TProf. Freeman & the TA were both so encouraging and helpful.
I felt the information was very helpful. I had multiple opportunities where I needed to speak outside of class and I felt prepared because of what I learned in this course. Lots of flexibility each week because she gives you a 48 hour grace period and even then late penalties weren't too bad. I also enjoyed the class feedback, it was encouraging.
Great communication from the professor and TA. I got the best, most helpful feedback that helped me improve my skills and assignments. They were super encouraging. The course is very organized and I like how she had us organize our video files in Google or on Box.
Set up for you to succeed and grow in your public speaking abilities. Does take some discomfort. The professor provides clear content, recording and submission details, and grading rubrics. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Had to ask for an extension right off the bat but she was very understanding and flexible.
Professor Freeman's STDEV150 class was a great experience. The course is well-structured, with clear instructions and helpful feedback. While public speaking can be daunting, the professor creates an encouraging environment that allows students to improve their skills. Unstuck ai was a valuable study tool alongside the class materials.
The information and structure of the class is great. I like how we have a couple of weeks to learn about certain speeches and then have time to practice and develop our topic. Great info & examples. The professor & TA are great at reaching out and answering any questions. The workload is not too difficult and can be managed with a busy schedule.
Great professor, online material, & TA. I didn't start the class on time, but Dr. Freeman left the assignments open so when I finally started I could still get a decent grade. Feedback was spot on and I learned a ton from it. Wish I started sooner, I could've earned a better grade, but glad I took it because the skills will help me in everything.
I love the organization of this class. The course approach is consistent and we are provided with everything we need to learn, NO textbook to buy. The professor gives great feedback which is very beneficial for improvement before the next speech. I enjoyed watching my classmates' speeches and their feedback gave me ways to improve my own speeches.
Not too difficult of a class and teaches great things. Just know you will need a live audience when recording your speeches, so that can be slightly hard to get that together for each speech. Overall awesome class though
One of the easiest classes! Pro Freeman and TAs give great feedback and answer emails/questions quickly. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Not as much homework as I expected for an online class. Pretty much one speech due every 1-2 weeks. Class structure was also super organized!
