REALLY hard to decifer what she's trying to say...not cool
she's easy to understand unless you're dense
Once she gets a better command of the english language she will be decient prof.
Fails to understand what she teaches. Doesn't know what legs or rifles are.
Very, very hard to understand. Mean to students sometimes.
Nice to look at but not nice to listen to
Very hard to understand, but she really knows her stuff... will be a great prof to have in 5 yrs, once she's had some practice and is settled down.
exams were ok. has french accent, but ok to listen too. read the readings. good with marks. good teacher to have if you can get pass the accent thing
though her language is not clear, the ideas and concept she conveys are. The (lack of)language does pose a problem, but can be overlooked when considering all of the insight she offers studants.
If you can be patient enough she's really funny and very interested in answering any questions, relevant or not...
horrible test writer, fairly poor quality teacher, overly concerned about her language skills which aren't all that bad. At times mean to students.
Very helpful if you ask, quite friendly, accent is not a major problem, just be sure to read all texts. A good prof in general.
If you can get past the accent she's an amazing prof. A little disorganized at times, but brings up thought provoking discussions.
Her course was quite boring. Had us purchase required text, then gave us paper copies of the text we NEEDED. She didn't know how to make her points clear.
The worst prof I have ever had. She does not know phil law much at all. She even has a poor understanding of some fairly basic philosophy concepts and her tests and exams are completely nonsensical
Omg if you don't have to take this course...don't esp. with her! She is so bad at teaching, jumps from once place to another and is not clear on anything. She is rude to students, esp. answering their questions. Need to learn English skills too..
warning: don't take this course if you don't have to! her accent isn't what makes the class bad, it's the fact that she doesn't make any sense, her tests suck and she's rude to the students.
Personally I found this class interesting and the exams were easy. She was available outside her office hours for things I found unclear. I did'nt do much of the course book reading, but attending classes was very helpful. She's friendly and hot ! Definately would be taking another course with her.
worst teacher ever, really mean to students for no reason. would kick them out for no reason, rude when students didnt understand her. very unclear, unfriendly, and unapproachable. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER AS THE PROF.
If you are reading this you already have a fimilar grasp of her based on other student comments. Her accent makes if very difficult to understand and follow her, she even confuses herself at times. She is rude to students and she makes no sense much of the time. Overall, a TERRIBLE prof.
This course is very thought-provoking if you're into law. She is an excellent prof, very clear (if you get past the accent) and can be helpful if you ask. BUT she is very unfriendly and rude. I'd definitely recommend this course, but I'd recommend not approaching her if you don't need to.
Stephanie Gregoire is very poor at presenting the course material in a logical and clear fashion. This is even beside the fact that she does not have an adequate enough of the english language to be teaching. Her verbal attacks on students upon being questioned are rude and unprofessional.
UW's warrior princess. Pierces the hearts of philosophy students with her bejeweled sword of knowledge. Question her, beseech her, and you'll regret it. Speaks in riddles, like the Sphinx.
Once you gtet around the rough edges she is good. Has a brusk way of speaking that intimidates a lot of students. Will help, if you go to see hyer and you show you have tried.
If you love philosophy, you'll love this prof. She is so intelligent and it shows. I didn't think I would like a logic class, but it was really interesting. Any student would be lucky to have her teach them.
If you are a disinterested artsy taking this course because you have no direction in life, then sure you won't really enjoy it. This Prof is very good, but she can't help you if you don't help yourself. This course is very easy. I can't believe you badly some ppl do, all you ahve to do is listen.
Dr.Gregoire is the most inspirational prof I have ever had. Her intelligence and passion radiate through every lecture. She is extremely kind and helpful and always goes out of her way for students. There isn't a better Phil. prof at this school; and I know, I've had most.
this class was really interesting and well presented. Gregoire was fun to watch and listen to. Plus, she has a great fashion sense. Loves Aristotle a lot, so don't expect too much else. But she definately knows her stuff. Very intelligent and kind, especially if you're smart!
ok maybe the class was an easy joke, i managed to somehow get a 50 through random guesses however i attended 90% of the lectures and got absoutly nothing out of them, shes good for getting extra help but she can't teach and that language barrier is brutal, my advice to all would be just not take her class, EVER
Only a complete and total idiot could not do well in her courses. She is an excellent prof who knows her material and gives guidelines before exams, making them much easier to study for! She is extremely helpful and very encouraging. Also, the material is very interesting, especially for Phil students. What more could you want?
Not your average professor at all but definitely the one I hold in highest esteem. I can never thank her for everything she has done for me; as a teacher, a guide and a kind soul. Her influence has shaped my life in Philosophy and the academic world in a profound way.I am lucky to be her student. You won't regret taking her courses she is brilliant.
This class is awful. The prof is awful. She cannot speak clearly enough and there is a HUGE language barrier. You must answer her questions EXACTLY as she would or you get them wrong. She doesn't understand other english words than the ones she uses. She is completely rude and ignorant and attacks those who asks questions. Not helpful.

I am disappointed that the school would allow someone to teach with such poor English. I loved the class, though she is no help, her guidelines are no help, and her tests are unbelievably unfair.
Gregoire is a very nice professor. I loved everyone of her classes. She gives guidlines of what to study and takes time to explain concepts to you. If you go to her class, you will definitely do well. University involves studying yourself, she is here to guide students, not to tell you what to memorize!
Yes, her english is bad. Yes, the class is difficult. However, she taught the course well, and the readings, along with her lecture allowed for a good understanding of the material. Her guidelines for the tests were clear, and if you studied using them... you should have done well. Class was a good mix of philosophy and law. I enjoyed it.
I enjoyed every lecture. She is very enthusiastic about teaching. The classes are very interesting as there are class discussions. All you need to do is go to class, pay attention and read the guidelines. No memorization or cramming required. She is very good at explaining the material. You will also end up with a really good mark if not a 100!
Attendance is mandatory because its simple: if you go to this class, you will do well, if you listen to her, take notes, do her study questions, and ask her for help if you dont understand things. youll do well. its very simple. ACT LIKE A REAL STUDENT and get good grades. Take this course when/if you are serious about school.
If you go to class, she gives out handouts and the exam questions are basically right off the handouts. She goes through the handouts and repeatedly tells you the questions. If you go to class, you will do extremely well because she is very clear and concise. If you don't go to class you will not know anything, the reading is NOT sufficient. She ha
Gregoire is a true professor of philosophy. To her philosophy is not a game, it is the desire to find and understand the truth. She really wants to "teach", so if you really want to learn, take her classes!
Took me 3 weeks to figure out she was saying "sovereign", but other than that she's a pretty decent professor. I was very scared at first and was planning on dropping the class because I had no idea of what she was talking about (accent). However, I'm glad I stuck with it. You just need to actually PAY ATTENTION in class - simple but effective.
I found her lecture very insulting. I had no problem understanding her and the course material, but I had a lot of problems with her knowledge of other cultures and religions. She had absolutely no idea about any of that, but insisted on making arbitrary and extremely insulting comments about people of "other" and different races/religions.
She is very sharp with the material she teaches; she owns it and this is obvious. Her course is HARD, and she assumes that if a portion of the clas understands, all should understand. She i obscure and unorganized, and makes frequent logical and grammatical mistakes - detriments to an already complicated class. Would not take again.
I've taken three of her courses, and I must say, she is one of the best philosophy profs at this university. She's extremely enthuastic about what she teaches and really knows what she is talking about. It's not too hard to do well in her class but it requires putting in effort, going to class and actually keeping up. But then again, isn't that wha
what university is all about? If you don't plan on attending classes don't bother going. You're bound to get a crappy mark.
Worst professor ever. She comes across as hating students. She is never enthusiastic about the course. She insults students if they give an incorrect answer. Also thinks she is good looking but so plastic. How much botox can one person get?
Excellent professor! As other people have mentioned before, she's very enthusiastic about what she teaches. Has a good sense of humour and generally, very understanding when it comes to students' requests. Her test questions are straight from the handouts and answers are given in class. If you actually attend class and take notes, you'll do well.
excited to take this course was expecting alot but was let down! Terrible teacher. Barely understand what she is saying, and she often asks you what the english meaning for a french word is. hello? I dont speak french! She is very unorganized and is a HARD A**. Doesnt like students, unless you are her favorite, usually one per class. STAY AWAY :)
as many of you said, she is easy. just go to class and take notes, you'll do well. exams are very straight forward..highly recommended
Stephanie is a fantastic prof. As a non-arts student i was a bit intimidated but this course (and stephanie) came highly recommended to me! Very useful, practical material...her accent is not nearly the detriment people make it out to be...its cute and she tries soooo hard! she has no time for **** or stupidity...shes there to teach! so nice!
She is a great Prof. Has some social quirks you can't take personally, but she knows the material inside out and will explain things again if you fail to understand them. She has an accent, but I don't understand how this makes her a bad prof. With enough work, you can get a mark over 90. Thoroughly enjoyed the course overall - solid content.
VERY VERY easy course! Make sure you go to class and read the text and you will definitely do amazing. Content is interesting, tests are reaallllyyy easy.
Not very impressed with Gregoire and the way she taught this course. Often would mark an answer wrong on the tests but then say that answer was correct on take up, bounced all over when lecturing, rude (told a girl her name wasn't a real name), kept us 3 hours EVERY class incl. the end when there was no more material to cover. Not a nice person.
In the first day of class she said A's are for God, B's are for me, and C's and D's are yours (directing to students). She took away the notes she had previously provided to the class, and during our first test more than 80% of the class got below 50%. She makes fun of students and she doesn't address their question clearly. She is very mean.
Professor Gregoire is very helpful. I have seen her a few times during her office hours and she has always been willing to help me. She is one of the best philosophy professors at the University of Waterloo and I appreciate all of her hard work and dedication to helping students succeed. It is really nice to see someone so passionate!
This class was miserable. she actually docked me marks for saying something in my own words and said so right on my test. her papers are mind numbingly unworthwhile- just regurgitate and you will be fine. she also breached rules regarding marks and confidentiality several times. What a disappointment!
This professor is amazing. She is sweet, understanding and is really available for extra help if needed. Although, she may be hard to understand at times she makes sure you understand the material. She is very helpful outside of class. If you go to class, show her you did the work she is more than willing to help you. Great class, great prof.
A miserably vicious and cruel person. she must not absorb any of the stuff she reads about virtue. she is dishonest and goes out of her way to be cruel to students and cut them down. stay far far away!
Worst professor of my university career! She is rude to students but demands respect from those who she does not respect. Her marking is very inconsistent and unfair. Often says things are correct while taking them up in class but marks it wrong on tests. She has never been helpful outside of class. She has given wrong information while in class
Very poor decision to take a course from this Prof. She will have 1 or 2 "special" students in her class (refer to positive posts), while the rest of the class she will alienate and harass. Lectures are never prepared, and consequently she repeats identical examples and concepts. Fair testing??? Rude, Racist, believes you as a student are stupid.
Do not take a class with her. Her use of English was so poor she was asking the class how to say obscure French philosophy words in English. Did NOT like her attitude either. Alienated much of the class, I chose to drop after I studied my ass off and she gave me a failing grade (I carry a mid-80's avg).
Ok listen up. This course is hard, the tests are hard and she is a super disorganized professor. She goes off topic way too much, rambles a lot and hardly knows proper english. You need to attend every lecture and read everything she assigns. Now that said, the highest grade you can get in this class is 75 or so. She will bump you if you talk 2 her
I have gone to this school for over three years and she is by far the worst teacher I've had. She has personally insulted me in front of the class and she writes very unfair tests. She does not teach well and left me relying on the textbook more than I should need to. She talks herself in circles constantly.
awsome teacher, she's great. Very helpful and interesting. Best course I have had so far...
This is a great course. Very hard but extremely helpful, whatever field you're in. Every student should be doing some logic, should be mandatory. She sure has a strong accent but she's clear. And she has extensive knowledge of Greek and Latin so i did not care her accent in English. Loved that course.
This prof is tough, but she legitimately knows what shes talking about and is very intelligent. Surprisingly she is able to articulate herself very well in English, despite her accent. So, if you can understand her you should be fine. She does mark hard but most Q's are SA's worth 1 mark, some 2. She tests 'understanding' more so than memorization.
Dr. Gregoire knows what she's talking about, but she doesn't express it well in English. This really limits her teaching ability. She also has a bad habit of laughing at or mocking students who ask questions she thinks they should know, even if it's just a reminder/clarification type of question.
Great prof. Came into the subject dreading the class because I geniunely hate the topic but Professor Gregoire managed to make it interesting and entertaining. She really does know what she is talking about and I pretty much cling onto every single thing she says in class, as it is extremely relevant and will come up in the exam some way or another
loved, loved, loved it. Loved her. Bright, funny, entertaining. And logic is very helpful. am going to miss her a lot.
I was surprised how much I liked it. It was super interesting. Definitely not your average prof. She has a strong personality but she is very competent, and helped me a lot. On the whole, I liked it a lot.
well its a hard course. but I thought she was very good. She's funny, interesting and always makes sure she is avaialble for help. But as she says, u have to help your selves! I was impressed by her knowledge of Latin and Greek. Also she likes her material and it shows.
I dont understand people who dont like her. Well I do, if you're lazy or if you want to memorize this course is not for you. It's a tough, very good course. She knows her stuff. And she will treat you as an adult.
Mrs Gregoire is a very good professor. She has a lot of enthusiasm while teaching, explains very well the different concepts and will always be available for her students who need help or who want to go deeper in the philosophical concepts. It is very important to read the courseware, but if you do, you'll have good marks ;)
i read these comments before taking the course...they're not accurate. For most people i know this class was the worst class they have ever taken.
She is such a good prof... her class is SUPER difficult though. You have to do the readings 100% or you will fail the tests. Test questions are not facts application of peoples theories and viewpoints to events not talked about prior. Basically: Do the readings and class is MANDITORY but you can do really really well. 5 overall rating
listen if u're a non serious lazy first year, just take another course. there are plenty of mediocer profs with no standards at SJU. yes, with her, u will have to read, u will have to work, to attend, to admit you have a lot to learn, but as far as i am concerned that is why i go to school. she does deliver and she knows her stuff. and shes lovely
I considered dropping this class after the first lecture, it was so disorganised. Shouldn't have hesitated. Incoherent and rambling lectures couldn't even be clarified by the syllabus or weekly guidelines. No reading schedule in syllabus, no order to the guidelines, and a jumble of readings for a course text. Would have learned more from a textbook
I took this class last year. She's a smart lady but being intelligent in a study doesn't necessarily mean you can teach it well. She's extremely disorganised and her class is structured so poorly. If you are a student who needs guidelines and a clear structure, then this isnt the class for you.
She's totally against technology, so be prepared to write notes. She posts 'guidelines' to each unit before you start, and you MUST print it off so you can see where shes going, otherwise it seems like she's rambling, but beware- everything she says she says specifically. She's very particular about which words you use on tests.
Great professor and class! You must do all the readings and attend all classes. She can be a little harsh, but she knows whats she is teaching about. She's not disorganized, she's just taught this long enough not to need a structure in order to cover everything. She says everything for a reason so make sure you're listening and taking notes.
surprising personality, definitely not ur average speaker. Very different and refreshing. Interesting and very well read
One of the most difficult and unreasonable professors I have ever interacted with. Her lectures are extremely disorganized (a popular opinion among classmates), even reading the textbook is not enough because she expects you to write and explain things the way SHE would, and not your own words. If you care about your GPA, do not take a course with.
Her quirkiness kind of grew on me, but her being my prof did NOT. She is SO disorganized, says herself that she's too lazy to prepare for classes, and will not give marks for answers unless they're in the specific wording she wants. Also, she gets upset with the class when we incorrectly answer something in class that she hasn't taught yet. AVOID!
Her style of teaching is not for everyone! She does not make any lecture slides or post any content regarding what readings to have done before certain classes . She gives guidelines to study but is still rather vague as she lectures based on these guidelines without really telling you when she has moved on to the next main point! Lacks structure!!
did not teach until two weeks into the term, only to point out that the swap period had ended and "you are all stuck with me." no structure or organization to the lectures or any indication of what to read, making studying excrutiating and cumbersome. acted condescendingly towards students for not understanding concepts. i don't recommend.
she's ok
Awful. No lecture slides, just voice recordings that aren't clear. She rambles and contradicts herself every 2 seconds. You come out of the lecture even more confused because she doesn't make any sense. You could write word for word what she says and you'd still fail. No clear outline/expectations but still a hard marker. Avoid.
Terrible. Unreasonable. Do yourself a favor and avoid this woman like the plague .
bad vibes tbh
Dropped the course, the teacher was not very nice, got fed up VERY quickly with the class, lessons didn't make a lot of sense. It felt like the course you were supposed to take a prerequisite course, but this is a beginner/first-year course.
