Dr. Hoffman is the best biology professor I've ever had. She is passionate about Biology and knows what she is doing. She's very organized and willing to help you understand the concepts. She gives great feedback and has a lot of stories about random biology facts are really cool. If you have questions or are confused about something just ask her.
Ms. Hoffman is a great teacher; I love coming to her class! She has been adaptive to our classes learning style and has really helped a lot. She lectures every day but goes into deep detail and will ensure that you understand the concept. She is also very accessible outside of class, she responds to emails quickly and is very passionate about bio.
Definitely recommend taking dr. Hoffman for your bio class. Although no biology class is ever easy, she makes the class interesting. as long as you study for the tests really good you should do fine in the class. shes really down to earth and lowkey has a sense of humor. Im not saying her class is easy, but its definitely better then others.
She is young and she is flexible with her policy. Lectures are pretty fast because she wants keep schedule. I think she should be more independent from Danny, who affect her too much! She is very nice as personality and I think she has potential.
Be prepared she does nothing alone. If you ask about any assignment or project they are not her ideas. Her answer will be: I need to ask Danny. It will be easier to take class Danny because all assignments are his ideas and he knows what he wants. She just uses ready material from Pearson or from other teacher. She has nothing done by herself.
This class was no joke but she made it worth it. Hoffman really cares about your grade in the class and as long as you put the work in you will be fine. Labs and lectures were easy to follow as long as you came to class prepared, and there were always breaks given in the middle. Beware she does move fast though. Basically, its like any bio class.
Shes nice but gives a huge work load. Quizzes & tests are VERY hard. Lecture slides are very minimal so you HAVE to read the book & take your own notes.
I hated this class. It was so overwhelming & exhausting. Way too much work. Lecture videos, lecture zooms, read chapter, write ur own notes, labs, assignments, exam at end of week for 3 chapters ALL in 1 week. I spent at least 8 hrs on just this class alone. Its like she wants us to only focus on her class. when ask questions shes not helpful.
THIS CLASS IS LIKE A 2ND JOB!!She makes lecture notes that are very vague so they DONT help at all but she makes u do them anyways & then u have to read the chapter & add more notes. Very vague in responses as well when email her. Theres so much work u pretty much cram it all into your brain for the test & forget it right after. HORRIBLE !
WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER. Her quiz is crazy it didnt came up from the book but you need to read the book a lot and rale a lecture and read powerpoint and take practive quiz you need to take 3quiz every week one lab one project participate assignment and assignment about book PER EVERY WEEK DONT TAKE HER CLASS SHE ONLY THINK WE ONLY TAKE HERS
BELIEVE ME DONT TAKE HER CLASS
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The workload is huge and so overwhelming. I literally spent majority of the week on this class and lost my social life over this class. You have so much reading, watching lectures ( which are not that good) and in one week you will have a two part exam, 3 quizzes, a lab and a project due. It was such a horrible class.
DO NOT TAKE HER. Worst professor I ever had She thinks we dont have a life and only have her. She give us so much work this is actually insane. Imagine being in a pandemic, kids, work, and this part time job-in 8week theres 4 exam+1 final and so many other things such as 3 quizzes per week, each exam take me 6+ hrs and each assignment take me 2+hr
Hardest 100 level class I have ever taken, absolutely terrible professor. There were 4 exams, even during summer quarter + final. Every exam covered 3 chapters, which each had a quiz that was equally as hard as an exam. I tried very hard on all assignments but never got 100, not considerate to people with jobs. No zoom lectures, only recorded.
I took this 100 level class this summer thinking it was going to be easy. I WAS WRONG! This was the worst and hardest class I have ever taken, all because of the teacher and the workload she gives. So many unnecessary assignments. So many things due in a week along with exams. I could cry just thinking about this class it caused so much stress.
Usually professors will modify main pts for summer, her? NOPE. We had to read all 12+ chapters, take 3 quizzes EACH week, a written exam AND a multi choice exam every other week, TWO group projects each week, attend a weekly ZOOM class, and ALSO a LAB due EACH week. I had more WORK THAN 3 CLASSES ive taken all together at times, AND grades TOUGH.
She is the WORST teacher I have EVER taken. She Grades so hard... she will mark you off for spelling things wrong! Shes not an English teacher but yet expects you to be perfect. She gives 1 multiple choice test and a written test ever other week and it takes about 4 hours. She gives 2-3 quizzes a week ontop of two labs (each week) & much more
Drop your other classes, family, job, sleep, because she takes all of your time. Prepare to do 2 chapters a week as well as quizzes for both of the chapters each week. Doesn't matter if the chapters are 10 pages or 35 pages. Every week you have to do a time sink project. Every other week you get do a larger in-depth project. Avoid her!
I am taking this class online and there is so much homework. She is a very nice professor and her lectures are easy to follow, but her homework omg. The tests aren't that hard, but she gives us work that is more stressful than helping. There's two quizzes a week and an exam every 2-3. We have a lab, HR project, connections assign, and notes a week.
Dr. Hoffman is an excellent teacher. Her online teaching is VERY organized. The expectations are clear, and most importantly, totally obtainable - provided you put the work in. The modules are clear, her assignments are all posted on time with a weekly overview. She has optional weekly review sessions on Zoom which are very helpful!
I have never failed a class before and she failed me. It was hard to try and comprise with her about my grade in her class and she didnt really care enough to help so save yourself a headache and choose another teacher!
Very nice and helpful, but make sure you spare out your assignments through the week, I learned that the hard way.
She gives quizzes every week , and exams every two weeks . She crams up all the projects , quizzes and exams all on friday , my advice to you is not take with her if you are taking 20 credits , or you dont like biology at all . However , i learnt plenty from this class despite the pressure of it being online
GREAT lectures, most of the quiz was information from her lectures. But be prepared to replay it a million types because of how fast she takes. She crams a lot of work into one week. Friday there was a lot of work done. I would recommend staying ahead of your weekly assignments. However, I crammed everything into one day and still did fine.
I took her online and I felt that she really cared about me. She responded so fast to my emails, answered all of my questions, and gave me tips on where to find information her her assignments. Her class is very easy just ALOT of work (and I mean a lot) testing, quizzes, labs, and homework. She gives extra credit tho!
I really dont know why people are being so mean to her! She really cares about her students and wants you to learn her work I will say, dont take her class if you work full time or have kids itll be hard. But other than that if you wanna learn and have a clear grading criteria & extra credit TAKE HER! SHE cares about you
she's a hard teacher but she is still really good. I don't think her rating should be that low but her class is definitely a time consuming one. per week she assigns ALOT of work but they're all easy to understand and if you're ever confused you can reach out to her but its almost as if she forgot her students have a social life and other classes
she could be a good prof if she didn't give us SO MUCH WORK! she hardly gave us any time to prepare for anything cause we have 3-5+ lectures each chapter at least 2 quizzes, a lab, and a group assignment every week. All the things she gave us can be helpful but there's so much I didn't really learn anything I was just trying to finish the work
I took her bio 211-213 sequence since Danny's classes were all filled back in 2019/20. I'm gonna be honest as I can be. She is a great person but a terrible teacher. She has very heavy lectures that are vague. Many projects, group presentations and labs that take at least 3-4 hours. Tests and quizzes don't cover what we learned in class.
She is honestly a nice person but her class is awful she gives us a lot of work that isn't too reliable for gaining information for the tests since the tests hardly correlate to what we've learned. the workload is too much to the point that I fell behind in my other classes just to get her work done because it takes up the majority of your time
I did not learn a single thing in her class. Wanna know why? Because she gave us so much work which hardly leaves us time to study but she expects us to study a few hours WHEN INSTEAD WE SPEND MOST OF OUR DAY JUST DOING THE WORK. and her test has nothing to do with what we learn. Stephanie, I hope you read these because they're filled with truth.
There's a lot of reviews here that I feel are unfair to Dr. Hoffman. She works hard to ensure that her students don't just earn a grade, but to enable their legitimate learning of the subject. If you don't want to learn, don't take the class. The class is set up in such a way as to facilitate learning - yes, there is a good amount of work.
Dr. Hoffman is a sweet & caring prof! Class is not as bad as seems. There is work to do, but very manageable. I took another rigorous science class with this one & got through. Over time you will know what to expect, so it will be easier! Be very organized w/turning in work! Read the book! Ask for help if needed- replies fast! Lots of extra credit.
She is a tough grader, so many piled up assignments. Quizzes and exams are very different from what you're supposed to study. I would advise anyone to not take her if you don't want to stress or struggle. She does respond very fast in emails, so there's that.
I recommended not taking this class at all unless you have no social life or a life at all. The amount of work is inhumane! Group project every week, 1 to 2 quizzes every week (12 quizzes). An exam every 2 weeks, so a total of 4 bio exams, 1 Final exam, and a final paper. Excel was annoying! If you take this class, good luck... I hope u make it.
OK, well there's a lot to say 1. She gives off so many asssignments including the week of exams which doesn't help u pass the test 2. Her assignments are not very clear, on what to do which makes it difficult to do 3. You don't have time to study coz of the assignments 4. Her EXAMS are different from what she teaches, some of them don't make sense
FYI, the course I took was online** First off, I think her class is okay. BUT it was super stressful. 2 quizzes a week, plus group project, plus exam every two weeks. The exams were difficult as I had to answer in full detail and some questions aren’t in the textbook or lectures. PLEASE PLEASE do extra credit it will boost your grade up!!
At least 3-4 group assignments each week, including the labs and group projects. Your grade depends on your groupmates so choose wisely. Final exam average was a 50%. Weekly quizzes on 1-2 chapters, all multiple choice/fill in the blank but NOT easy, and no backtracking, no notes, no textbook. Open book exams every 2 weeks, study hard!
You don't need the book but it makes it a lot easier. she gives 1-2 group assignments a week, 1 quiz a week (very easy). A coggle map every 2-3 weeks and a test every 2-3 weeks. The final exam is multiple choice. Overall a very nice teacher, she teaches well and it wasn't to hard for a bio class
Professor Hoffman requires group work. If you are not a social person, or not willing to work with others, this class probably isn't for you. But science is a collaborative subject. Very passionate about her field, and is always willing to help if you ask. Also gives cool developments in scientific community. Difficult class, but worth it!
Dr. Hoffman is good at teaching. If you do not understand some materials she will try to explain to them until you understand them. She is good at lectures.
Dr. Hoffman was one of my first in-person professors and she was a respected teacher. She does have quite a lot of lectures, although they were highly interesting. The exams were difficult and challenging, I would highly recommend studying as much as possible. The labs were quite tough on our grades, but were fun. Would recommend if you have time.
she is a great professor so nice and caring and her class is so fun other than the fact that this class is a lot of work but all bio classes like that I took 211 and now I am taking 213 with her and she is more like our bestfriend in the class i highly recommend taking her class.
Dr. Hoffman's 211/213 classes are tough, but preparation is key. Negative comments arise from lack of seriousness, unfairly blaming the professor. Take notes, memorize the slides and you will get high grade on the exams. Dr. Hoffman is sweet, fun, and creates a wholesome class environment. Field trips and enjoyable days are part of the experience.
I took Hoffman for Bio&213 (Plants). This class is very group project heavy, but that isn't her fault. She is a very caring and kind professor. There is a lot of homework, but nothing that you can't handle from Bio&212. Class is hard, but not impossible. While attendance isn't taken, it is necessary to pass.
She is good during lectures and explaining material. She always will help you when you have some troubles.
While there is a ton of work to be done, she gives out extra credit and is available to answer your questions (fast replies). The assignments and group work are tedious but all bio classes have these. You will learn effectively with her organized course and lectures (prerecorded and in person). Her rating should be higher...
I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Hoffman's BIOL&211, 212, and 213 courses. She's the real deal in the field of biology. Get ready to push your limits when taking Dr. Hoffman's class. She'll expand your knowledge and skillsets in a super creative way. PLEASE don't be EVER afraid to talk to her about anything, the most supportive prof. I've ever had.
She is such an amazing professor. She cares her students a lot, and her lectures are easy to follow. You can ask questions freely during the lecture, and she will answer you sincerely. I took her classes for 3 quarters, and it was worth it.
The greatest proffessor I had within green river. Throughout the year she was very caring and did a lot of hands on learning and always giving her 100% to the students. There is also always an opportunity for extra credit for every quiz and test in her class, as well as feild trips. Negative comments come from students who took her online class.
The class can be overwhelming due to how much content there is, but Dr. Hoffman is always willing to clarify any topic you might not understand or answer any questions. She is also really good at simplifying things so they are easier to understand. Personally, the hardest part of the class was not having many assignments to apply topics learned.
Every quarter, you're going to learn approx 13~16 chapters. You're a Bio major what do you expect. Bio ain't hard, it's just a lot to memorize. Just take it as you're practicing before med school. Because in reality, med school gonna be way much harder.
She is great professor.
Although the whole Majors Biology sequence is tough at GR, Dr. Hoffman is one of the best professors to have along the journey. Available and loves to answer any type of question, and all around awesome person. Intimidated by the reviews at first, pleasantly surprised by the end. Wish I could have had her for more than one quarter.
We are literally the bestest of friends. She's been a great professor, and her lectures are always made fun in some way. She puts a lot of effort into her students, and despite her tough grading and workload, it's similar with everyone else at Greenriver College. Biology as a major is hard, but that challenge will help you grow.
Very difficult. To ace this class, you will need to dedicated your entire life to it. Professor only gives full scores if you give the answer's whole family tree. If you answer the question, "What is protein?", and say just what it is, she will only give you 2 out of 5 points because you did not state the who why where when.
Each chapter connects apparently but It seems like a bunch of memorizing for info. . Plus the test involves you remembering EVERYTHING about that on part. Maybe I have issues with retaining info but I had no idea what I did for the first exam (maybe because this happened a while ago) I did not feel good with my end result and I was not satisfied
Very fair and transparent professor. Very knowledgeable. If you take Bio&160, she will prepare you for anatomy and physiology. Therefore, the class is fast paced. If you don't show up to lecture you'll have a hard time. Do what she says and you'll get through and achieve a good grade.
Genuinely a wonderful professor, I appreciated that if someone was curious about a topic and she didn't know the answer, she would research it and post the information with sources in an announcement. Lectures go fast, lots of assignments (several being group), but pay attention to each assignment's rubric because that will save your grade.
The course is difficult by nature, and Dr. Hoffman certainly grades accordingly. Throughout the quarter, there was a lot of homework for this course, and students had many extra credit opportunities. The exams were doable if proper study was employed. Kind, compassionate, tough grader with detailed instructions and feedback on assignments.
TBH, one of the best Bio professor I had ever taken. If you take the major series, you should get ready to learn the material instead of passing. Dr.Hoffman is caring, listens to her students & will push the students to see the best in themselves. You can get an A if you put in the effort. I learned SOO much in BIO 212/213. Best class & Proff ever
You gotta sacrifice your life for this course with this teacher if you want a good grade. Very heavy lectures, lots to remember, fast pace. Her lecture and chapter questions are level 5 difficult but what she gives you on the test is a hell 10. She hasn't even explained these questions in class and made it worth 24 points in the 80-point exam.
Exams are 50% of grade, 100% written response except the final, very fast paced on various topics since it's general bio. She's a great teacher, answers all questions, and is always happy to help, but the structure of the class makes it hard to learn since you'll worry about grades instead learning. Lots of info in a short timespan, 97-100 is a 4.0
She will have multiple slides on a concept and make it seem sooo important but then not put it on the test. Instead, she will put a concept that she only had AT MOST 2 slides on and make it 12 points (worth 80 total). She grades harshly and is looking to dock points rather than to give partial credit. My advice is to rewatch lectures before exams.
took her for 212/213 (2024). she's a queen - very organized, candid, passionate, knowledgeable, gives gr8 feedback, & won't coddle u (but cares deeply abt her students). this class will put u to WORK, so manage ur time & start studying yesterday - it's doable, i just procrastinated. i learned so much abt how life works + it was fun & interactive.
Dr Hoffman is very kind, but her classes are EXTREMELY challenging. There are SO many assignments (not always clear instructions), heavy on group work, and her exams are ones like you have NEVER seen before. She is a tough grader too. She is, however, a good professor and her class is interesting. Don't take her for an easy A, take her to learn.
Biology is incredibly hard in general but it'll be harder if you don't talk to the professor. Her exams are all written and you have to go in depth and explain the question or else she'll take so many points off. Find good lab group mates or else you're going to end up having to do most of the work!! Also very strict grader.
Biology is really hard but Professor Hoffman made it easier. She is very passionate and knowledgeable. Her tests are all written except the final and you have to go in depth on your answers. The class is built to help you learn which means it isn't easy but is very rewarding. Ask her questions and work hard and you will succeed!
Dr Hoffman packs a LOT of information into a short term. She teaches amazing and makes sure that her students really understand concepts instead of just reading off of slides, which is really appreciated at a 100 level class. I disliked how much group work there is, especially when most groups were friends and others were randomly shoved together
I only got a good grade bc I sacrificed both other classes for this. Avoid her at all costs. You have group grades that make up a DECENT amount of your grade. Her teaching is fine, its every single assignment that is bad. She is a HARSH grader. Everyone else in my lab group got below a 2.0
Dr Hoffman was one of the worst graders I've had. She takes points off for every little thing. Her exams were written and if you miss a minuscule detail points were taken off.
Exam's will bring your grade down heavily, and will mark you down for the little things ON EVERYTHING. Does not drop any low scores, or round up. Only thing I can say is that she has good lectures.
Show up to lecture, take notes, and submit assignments. Have a study plan ready. Her exam material will almost never surprise you but whether you studied that material will. If you stay on her good side she will ROUND your final gpa. Trail work and lab work is group based. Split assignments with Dr. Danny (beware). Create a study schedule.
Create a study schedule according to her posted class schedule. DO NOT finish your lab notebook last minute. UTILIZE the textbook it provides videos and images of human anatomy that aids in studying. Exam questions can get creative so know your body systems/pathways by heart. Hoffman is easy to find so take advantage of that to ask for help!
Test are hard, you can do perfect on every assignment and still fail because of test that have topics that were only covered once or twice in class. Also a ridicules amount of group work. It comes down to luck if you can get people who can pull there weight if one person drops the class you're group will have to do more work than other groups.
Dr. Hoffman is one of the best proffesors I have had to date. While is class is a lot of homework and studying, she is always willing to help her students outside of class. You just have to communicate with her about your needs and what you need help with. She is tough on you, but it because she cares and wants us to do good.
Hoffman, is an incredible person. She knows we are all going through our own things and if you let her know what you were going through she would come and check in with you.
Not helpful at all
Highly not recommended
She never grade you more then 50
No multiple choice questions you need to explain everything they way she does, if not you will not get any point.
The exams are extremely difficult and don't reflect what we actually learned in class.
She expects you to explain everything exactly the way she does — no flexibility at all.
Even if your answer is correct, you get a zero if it's not worded like hers.
The grading system feels unfair and too harsh.
She gives very little partial credit, even for answers that show understanding.
Her lectures are confusing, and the tests are much harder than what's covered.
She doesn't seem to consider how students think or explain concepts differently.
It feels like she wants you to memorize her words, not understand the material.
Her exams are full of trick questions that make it hard to earn points.
She rarely explains why you lost points or how to improve.
Even small mistakes result in losing all credit on a question.
Her grading rubrics are unclear, and she doesn't give helpful feedback.
She's very strict and not understanding if you need help or clarification.
The class feels stressful because it's impossible to meet her expectations.
She grades harder than any other professor I've had — it's discouraging.
Her tests require you to guess exactly what she wants you to say.
There's no room for creativity or personal understanding in your answers.
The workload and difficulty level are not reasonable for the course.
She doesn't make the material engaging or accessible to students.
Overall, she's a very tough grader and makes learning more stressful than productive.
As a person who normally gets good grades for classes, I've never had a bad grade until i got her for a teacher, she literally took weeks to grade just one assignment and would take even longer when it came to answering emails, she didn't explain anything and nothing she said or wrote didn't make since!
Overall, this course is excessively stressful and not worth the mental toll.
It's hard to stay calm or confident in this class because of how much pressure she puts on students.
The difficulty level makes it feel impossible to succeed, no matter how hard you try.
You'll feel drained by the end of every week; the workload is way beyond normal.
The stress level in this class is through the roof — be prepared to feel overwhelmed.
The course structure is intense and not student-friendly at all.
She's extremely strict and demanding, which makes the class feel unnecessarily hard.
This class is far tougher than it needs to be — the stress outweighs the learning.
I couldn't focus on any other class because her assignments and exams took up all my time.
Her exams and grading style create so much stress that it's hard to stay motivated.
The environment is tense and stressful; learning should not feel this overwhelming.
Start studying for this course out the womb and get ready to still somehow fail your exams
This was definitely the most intense class I've taken. She grades really hard and to get an A in her class or honestly just pass it you need to prepare for lots of study time
She doesn't follow the textbook at all — if you write your exam answers based on what the book says, you'll get a zero.
The group projects make no sense and don't relate to the lessons. They just waste time.
Her expectations are impossible to meet, and her grading is beyond harsh.
You basically have to memorize her exact wording or fail.
Nothing from the textbook will help you on her exams — she wants her own version of everything.
She gives zero points even when your answer matches the textbook definition perfectly.
Group assignments are confusing and feel like busywork with no real purpose.
If you care about your GPA or your money, avoid this class at all costs.
Take this class only if you enjoy losing points for no reason.
Exams are brutal and unfair, and she doesn't explain what she expects.
She constantly changes her explanations and never follows the course material.
It feels like she tries to make the class harder than it needs to be.
She punishes students for thinking differently or using textbook examples.
If you take this class by mistake, drop it immediately before it hurts your grade.
You'll waste time, effort, and money because her grading doesn't make sense.
She doesn't care about student success, only about her own way of teaching.
The workload and stress level are overwhelming; it feels like she forgets students have other classes.
The class causes unnecessary stress because of the unclear expectations and overly strict grading.
She makes the class extremely hard and stressful for no reason.
If you value your peace of mind, don't take this class.
You'll spend all your time on this one subject and still struggle to earn a decent grade.
The course expectations are unrealistic and make it hard to manage your other studies.
Nothing else, just do not take class with her ever.
She makes everything harder than it needs to be. She doesn't care if students truly understand the concepts. All she wants is for you to memorize her slides. Her class is pure stress and confusion.
The workload in her class is unbearable. You spend all week on one assignment and still get a bad grade. She never explains clearly and ignores the textbook completely. A nightmare experience.
She claims to care about learning but only wants you to repeat her exact words. Understanding means nothing if you don't sound like her. The class is exhausting and discouraging.
Her lectures are the only thing that matter to her. She gives no room for using the textbook or outside understanding. The amount of pointless group work is just a waste of time.
Every week there's another meaningless assignment that takes hours. She pretends they help, but they don't. You'll spend days on work that barely counts. This class is pure torture.
She's the reason many students lose motivation. Even if you study hard, you still fail because she grades unfairly. The stress level is unreal and not worth it.
She talks like her lectures are perfect. If you write anything from the textbook, you get zero. Her ego makes it impossible to learn or succeed.
I've never had such a stressful class in my life. The group projects make no sense, and she gives unclear instructions. You work endlessly but never get a good grade.
Taking this class once is enough to know you'll never take it again. She gives too much unnecessary work, doesn't explain well, and blames students for struggling.
She acts nice but doesn't actually help. Her feedback is harsh and confusing. The lectures are boring memorization drills, not real teaching.
You'll spend all your time trying to figure out what she wants instead of learning the subject. She makes easy concepts sound impossible. Total waste of time and energy.
The assignments are overcomplicated, pointless, and endless. She seems to enjoy making students miserable. You'll regret signing up for her class.
She completely ignores the textbook and expects you to memorize her slides word for word. The tests are impossible and designed to make you fail.
This class drains all your motivation. Even when you give your best, it's never enough. The professor doesn't care if you understand, only if you copy her style.
Her grading makes no sense at all. You can spend hours on an assignment and still get marked down. She creates stress for no reason.
She assigns constant group work that doesn't relate to the lessons. It wastes time and makes everyone frustrated. The class feels like punishment.
The professor acts like she's helping, but she never is. Her rules are inconsistent, and she always finds something wrong. I wouldn't wish this class on anyone.
She's one of those professors who confuse toughness with teaching. Everything is strict, stressful, and unclear. Learning stops and frustration begins.
You'll regret taking this class from day one. She expects perfection but gives no support. Every assignment feels like a trap to make you fail.
Her class is a nightmare you can't escape. No matter how hard you try, the results never match the effort. She's a tough grader who takes pride in your struggle.
She acts like a perfectionist but doesn't realize her teaching makes no sense. You learn nothing but stress and disappointment.
It's unbelievable how unfair she is. She marks off points for wording, spelling, or anything she personally dislikes. Nothing is ever good enough.
This is the kind of professor who kills your motivation to learn. Everything is memorization, no critical thinking allowed. Completely outdated.
She has no sympathy for students who work or have families. It's her way or zero points. This class is a full-time job with no reward.
If you value your mental health, don't take her class. She overwhelms you with assignments and then grades like she wants you to fail.
Her teaching style belongs in a museum. She refuses to use the textbook or modern learning tools. It's like stepping back a hundred years.
She gives zero credit for effort. Even when you clearly understand the topic, you fail if your wording doesn't match hers word-for-word.
It's shocking that Green River still keeps someone like her. She doesn't teach — she tortures students with endless, meaningless work.
Dr. Hoffman is one of the most understanding professors I have ever had. Her teaching style is more tough love but it prepares you so much for the classes that you take after. If you ever are struglling you just need to talk to her and she is more then willing to help.
Dr. Hoffman BIO 160 class is hard but she is just trying to prepare us for the much harder classes we will eventualy take. Her class is very tough love but you just need to reach out for help and she is more then willing to help. She wants her students to do well in school. If you think this is hard, just you wait for nursing school.
It's a good class for students who are only taking one course each quarter, but for anyone taking multiple classes, it becomes extremely difficult to keep up with her demands. She will deduct points if you don't describe concepts exactly the way she wants or if your explanation doesn't make sense to her.
She says her class prepares us for tougher courses in the field, but that's not true. Most students taking this class are still in prerequisites and juggling multiple classes. Her strict expectations make it extremely hard, and nothing really makes sense until you're actually in the field.
Subjective and overall harsh grading all around. Manipulates grades so people don't pass too much. Punishes critical thinking. Must MEMORIZE EVERYTHING VERBATIM. Wouldn't recommend this prof to my worst enemy
Teacher makes exams riddled abnormally tedious asks a.k.a time wasting questions. She is a harsh grader all around. She won't give credit when it's obvious you know what you're talking about. Must memorize everything. This teacher WANTS YOU TO FAIL. Avoid at all costs!
BIO 160 is described as an introduction to biology, but this class is not. The workload is extreme, the material goes way beyond intro level, lectures move insanely fast, and it feels like the class is set up for you to fail. Group work can also ruin your grade. AVOID IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY!
Dr. Hoffman is a great professor. She is very helpful and knowledgeable. Yes, her class is difficult, but her teaching style is to help set us up for the next courses of biology that are much harder than this one. Although lectures are available online, it is very crucial to attend class to ask questions. Tutoring is available and helpful too.
Hoffman is one of the worst professors I've encountered. Her exams feel designed to make students fail, and her lectures are hard to follow because she crams too many topics into one class. I wouldn't recommend her, honestly, not surprising she's this bad, considering she teaches at a community college despite having a PhD.
Dr. Hoffman is a very knowledgeable professor, she does everything she can to help you understand. She is nice and gives good feedback, however the course is challenging and moves fast. She is also a bit of a tough grader and I think the class has a lot of things to worry about like lab, test, group projects, papers.
