Really helpful teacher, but details are important. If you can't pass this class, you deserve a job at McDonald's.
Great class - excellent teacher! Very enthusiastic about Adolescent Lit. All papers/projects are very practical for those planning to be teachers.
Too many hoops to jump through but in the end it all amde sense. some of the assignments seemed insulting like posters from childrens books but it really is all worth it. I'm glad I took her.
wonderful teacher. she cares about her students and is passionate about her work. no tests, just projects. a lot of the projects are time comsuming but make it easier to get an A than testing.
She's really a great teacher and mentor. Lots of guidance and mentoring with just the right amount of academic expectation.

She acts like a kindergarten teacher. She is sweet, approachable and flexible but her assignments felt like 3rd grade projects. Easy A though. Very knowledgeable but the class was not challenging as a college class should be. The work was almost insulting at times.
She is great. Class is easy and may seem pointless but no, its very helpful for future teachers. She gives great suggestions for classroom activities. I would definitely take her again. One of the best!
Easy class, no hidden aganda. The first day of class the syllabus seemed to have alot of work, but it is all easy to do, so don't feel overwhelmed. It is not hard to get an A.
Not a good teacher. She seems to be at the start of the term, even very easy at grading lame projects...but at the end of the semester, her grading does not reflect anything she said. It is hard to fail her class, but she does not keep to her word. She forgets! This class was a waste of money, time, and effort. She is a horrible teacher.

She is a nice lady and prepares you for many things, but she gives out too much work. She talks too much as well. I got an A in the class, however, I don't think I would take her for anything else. She crams too much info in your head, leaving you with a migraine. Try to avoid her. She plays faves as well. I was one of them.
She is very nice. I couldn't stand her kindergarten teacher approach and 3rd grade course material. I didn't find the work in this class helpful and at times it was offensive how dumbed down the material was. She reads to the class and talks too much. Be prepared to be treated like a 3rd grader!
The most useless class I took. Too many lame projects, and too much work that does not fit w/ teaching English. She seems to have everything together, but she is not clear on what she expects.
Reminds me of the mom from That 70s Show which gets really annoying real fast. Speaks to students as if we were in elementary school still. Focuses on insignificant details like grammar in grading your work vs. critical thinking or depth. You'll be fine if you turn in all your work, go to class and do your fieldwork hours because she will penalize.
She was so very helpful and sweet. She sometimes over explains things, but it is better to have more information than not enough. The book selection was very diverse.
She is nice enough but expect to have your hand held and the class time is complete busy work or a repeat of already covered info.
Johnson is a great professor - she really sets up the class for you to succeed. All assignments serve a specific purpose of prepping you to write the end of the semester admittance essay to the single-subject program. Expect to put a lot of effort into this class - it's no easy A. But the challenges are great and she's always avail. to help.
Prof. Johnson is a supportive, wants-you-to-succeed type of professor. She is heavily invested in making sure you complete all that's outlined in the university catalog description of the class, but also wants you to bring your class experience home to your own life. She is helpful, sincere, a little nervous, but overall a wonderful professor.
I have taken English 301 B for spring 2016. Professor Stephanie Johnson has a great relationship with her students. She is my favorite Professor because she is always there to help and explain everything if students don't understand. She responds email to students very fast. She is great professor. I learned very much in her class. I love her teach
She is almost always in a good mood. She cares about her students very much and takes the time to understand her students on a personal level especially during office hours. Offers extra credit opportunities whenever possible. After doing poorly previous semesters in other classes Prof Johnson made me gain hope. Show interest and you'll do well.
She's okay but gives a lot of busywork, as others have noted.
She was helpful and understanding when I asked her questions, whether it be through email or in person. Her teaching style is a bit elementary, but it helped everyone in class interact with one another in a fun way. She wants her students to succeed, and she will guide you every step of the way with your SSCP application.
Her class is very intense and fast-paced. Students thought assignments were busy work. Very strict about assignments-MUST COMPLETe EVERY LITTLE DETAIL for full credit(ex. 10 sentences/paragraph). 1 group project. 1 lesson plan. 1 PS. 20 journals. 1 interview. 3 Phases. However, Johnson is helpful throughout the semester; she answers all questions.
She is a great teacher. She will guide you through each step of the way to the best of her ability. You can really feel that she cares about her students and it makes you want to put in the effort because of her dedication towards the class. I highly recommend taking her class. The EDSS 300G class is overwhelming at times, but it is doable!
She's incredibly clear on what's expected and when it's due. She assigns a lot but it's all really easy; great feedback, and plenty of chances to improve grade. Punctuation really matters, don't mess around, show up on time and don't turn in anything late! She's really passionate and wants her students to succeed, just ask for help if you need it.
Her way of teaching is kinda like kindergarten, she babies her students so well that the class seems a bit boring. 3 in-class essays, shell let you know the topic. 4 projects, each project has at least 3-5 writings; but youll do the writings with the class. The class isnt hard, just a lot of works.
If you need to take an English class to pass your portfolio, she's the one to take. She's very easy-going but can baby you at times. Just show up and do the work and you'll pass. Her assignments are pretty easy, just a lot of writing. 3 in-class essays and 3 project assignments. I recommend her.
There is a reason Johnson is at the forefront of the Teaching Credential Program. She embodies all of the good aspects about teachers. Her 3hr class breezed by with her easy lectures. She responded to emails in hours, wrote great feedback, answered all questions, & wrote very clear grading criteria. When COVID hit, she was even more compassionate.
I enjoyed taking prof. Johnson's class; she keeps the class assignments and lectures pretty engaging. The book used wasn't an English textbook but The Unthinkable by Amanda Ripley. The main focus of revolved around the topic of the book which was how to survive disastrous circumstances. She lays every single assignment prompt in an organized way.
Prof. Johnson is amazing. She genuinely cares for students beyond the classroom. She has done great adapting to online teaching and class never drags on because she is super engaging with her students. She cut a lot out of the syllabus to lessen the stress of online learning because of covid. Assignments and grading were super easy and lenient.
There are no tests or essays. Once a week, you make a dropbox post and a discussion post on occasion. It's a lot of busy work especially since we read one book a week, but the books were interesting. Very easy grader and the assignments were very clear. The Blast program was fun but tedious to sign up for. Overall, very nice and clear for work.
I currently have an A, and I expect that the majority of us do. Honestly, she cares more about you becoming prepared to be a teacher than she cares about being a hard grader. You should put in work regardless because that's just the basic work ethic teachers should have, but she really cares about your success and will continuously push you forward
I love Prof Johnson. She is the best prof at CSULB. She is so kind, understanding, and generous. turn in your work on time, and you'll get an A. Some projects were unclear when she explained it, but once you start working on it, it's easy. This class gives an introduction on the expectations of being an English teacher. TAKE HER <3333
The worst kind of educator as her instruction undermines the learning process. Difficult texts assigned should lead to lively discussion, but either unprepared or unwilling to lead, she simply reads extracts. I'm upset that I am risking my health to attend these classes only to have class time wasted with silly "ice breaker" speeches / poems that you *have* to do. It is currently week 3 and we will finally finish these in week 4. That's right! A whole 4 weeks completely wasted. I did not sign up for intro into teaching to do this!! I want to LEARN!
JOHNSON is such a tough grader. JOHNSON does not spare you at all. JOHNSON does not accept any late work. My grade went from an A to a C because of one poorly written paper. DON'T RECOMMEND
Just avoid this professor if you can, I took another class after I failed Johnson's and it was so much better, and I got a better grade, and thats rlly all Im just gonna say!!!
This professor is a mess. She is a very poor grader and will not explain her comments on your papers. Avoid at all cost. She is bias towards papers and will heavily dock points on simple mistakes if she does not like your topic. Barely teaches anything at all. She will accuse you of plagiarism even if your sources are cited. Belittles you in class.

Terribly hard grader on the essays. Quizzes and discussions boards every week that aren't too bad, but she is very unclear on how we are supposed to write out papers and leaves very strange comments on essays. Tutors and another teacher at the writing told me that my position paper is solid and should be an A paper and I ended up with a C NOOOOOOO!
Almost done and near through semester and I dread the work from this class. Discussion posts about answering questions lots of steps to do in the discussion boards. This class is basically just all reading and answering questions. Very boring assignments
Avoid this professor if you can. Her direction Is confusing and she does nothing to clarify. Her grading makes no real sense and the criteria seems to change throughout the semester. If you point out where she made a mistake on your paper, she changes the directions so now YOU are wrong. Quiz answers make no sense. Professor is very ego self involv

One of my favorite profs at CSULB. Interesting reading materials and the way she did reading circles was fun. I found each project and paper we had to do informative and fun because we got to decide the topics to an extent. She is very helpful and open to any questions you may have.

She says things as if it's the only way when there's many different ways of teaching and learning. She's passive agressive and you know this because she acts nice when in front of class but when you get her alone shes b*

The class was all about group work and Johnson didn't teach! She's adamant about what she expects except you never really know if you're doing it right because there are no models. There's examples but she never posts them or sends them out as examples. I didn't learn anything

She is so difficult that she has to offer so much extra credit so that people pass. I was surprised to find she had been teaching a long time. You would think an experienced teacher would realize her class is not right when the only way you can pass is xtra credit. Insane, never again. Hardly ever graded an adolescent assignment through the entire semester. 95% of all grades were graded after we submitted our final paper. The essay diagnostic we had to write in the 1st week was never really graded. We never received feedback and it went from being worth to 25 points to 0. You have to buy 2 books and I passed without going class!!

Do not let the mass of bad reviews deter you. Yes there is a lot of reading. Yes you will actually have to THINK when doing your assignments. However, she is someone who actually cares about the future of her students and how they will teach in the future. There is real thought put into her work leaving you with a sense that you learned something.
Be warned it's not an easy A she's strict on deadlines and won't budge don't get on her bad side she's a witch and tight with administration you won't win
This class was so easy that in order to fail you had to be the laziest student in campus. Most classmates ended with A+. I ended with 103%. She treats you like middle schools which I understand she knows her students do not know how to write and she teaches what middle school teachers were supposed to do.
professor was probably the worst I've had out of about 15 classes I've taken at LB. I was going through family issues, and I would reach out to Instructor via Beach, because she tells everyone to access her through email repeatedly with no reply whatsoever. I was behind on half of the essays in the class, and she didn't even try reaching out to me!

Her class is easy, but do not expect to learn anything. She pulls up the PPT slides, reads a few things, and then starts discussions about random stuff vaguely related to the lesson. Her tests are all online (no camera). Tests and assignments are easy, just a lot of online busy work. She is funny and this was more of a blow-off class for me haha!

There is a lot of work, there are quizzes, essays, and discussion boards every week. The essays all have to be at least 6 pages long, with hard grading and can rarely get full credit for assignments. There are many mistakes on assignments and quizzes that make it difficult to understand what the professor wants. I would not take this class again.
This "KAREN" is very unclear and avoids answering most questions. She enjoys talks sheeet about students She is not animated and does little that requires real work makeuplies because she bullies others as a bullyPhD adviser faculty no real faculty experience and teaches as if she knows! "KAREN" BFF is the adviser and hubby the credential director the nitty gritty: quizzes, essays, and discussion boards every week. The essays all have to be at least 6 pages long, with hard grading and can rarely get full credit for assignments. There r that make it difficult to understand what the professor wants. I would not take this class again.
Sometimes, her lectures are hard to follow and disorganized. Be warned that she is a very tough grader. She will often take off points for wording she dislikes and not on how well you complete an assignment. Additionally, she is not the most accessible outside of class.
Good luck getting in contact with her. She takes years to respond back to both emails and Canvas messages. The 3 tests that are AUTOMATICALLY graded through ai are worth 50% of your overall grade. Her area of expertise is Eng Ed, so Comp/Rhet majors + Lit Majors be warned. The reading is different. Be involved, easy points.

Feels like she expects her students to be graduate level researchers when this is only a capstone class. VERY VERY strict with grading, if you make one small mistake youre basically guaranteed half points gone off the assignment

This class was a good break from the intense reading and essay-heavy classes I've been taking. No essays and homework consisted of reading and weekly posts to Canvas. I thought the outreach was a little annoying, but easy to finish. She's nice and easy to work with, in my opinion. I would take her again, but I'm not entirely sure of what I learned?

very interesting for me, BUT there were so many essays and close deadlines. Each class there are at least 2 homework assignments due. She is a tough grader and does not accept late work. Professor is a big time NO. DONT TAKE HER CLASS-SAVE YOURSELF AND YOUR TIME. During the lectures, she will talk about irrelevant topics (because she is irrelevant) and will decide whether to have a quiz or not based on participation. Additionally, her due dates for assignments and ESSAYS are nearer than expected, so you HAVE to watch out for that.
I'm not sure why her rating is so low. I had an amazing experience with her and she was always kind to everyone. There are many small assignments which may make it overwhelming at first but it becomes easy along the way. She is there for any questions.

The worst professor I've had. I ended up in the ER unexpectedly due to medical issues and couldn't submit my work. Despite being with DSPS, she was rude and refused to help when I reached out. This was only one of the issues I had but shows how she is as a professor.

your writing is not up to her standards she will fail you with no hesitation. I tried hard in my writing and took her feedback and used it towards my writing and she still was hard on grading. She gives way too many writing assignments in which she grades hard. Can turn in things late but at very high cost
