She is a great teacher. Truly enthusiastic about Sociology and that makes the class fun. Tests are challenging but fair and she reviews before every one. She does a concept notebook and participation that are a gimme 30 points. Came into this class thinking about Sociology as a major, left absolutely sure.
If you are not a sociology major don't take this class! This class was very interesting and helpful but I didn't like hearing about racism for three hours. She is a very nice teacher and she does know what she is talking about. Very smart lady. Tests and quizzes are pretty hard but you definitely need to read which there is a lot of.
Sweet, open-minded lady. Her tests are challenging and the reading is heavy, but she gives other ways to improve your grade, like an interview paper with someone from a different background, and a movie-review paper, both of which she grades easilly on. Not an easy A, but easy B if you do what you're supposed to. She wants you to succeed.
Dr. McClure was a very enthusiastic and passionate woman when it came to Sociology and teaching the course. You could tell during her lectures that she really enjoys what she does. She's full of knowledge and conveys the course content pretty clearly using movies, over-head slides, and assigned readings. The class was enjoyable.

Easy. Gives review sheets before exams. Gives few pop quizes but if you pay attention you ill be fine. Her classes can be boring sometimes and she likes to use very big words. Read and pay attention you will be gold.
Very enthusiastic person. Makes class fun and interesting. Lots of group work and movies. U have to read to get an A, but if you just pay attention and do the test reviews a B is possible and a C is easy.
Very hard. You have to read and understand hard concepts to get a decent grade. She is way to smart for a core class teacher. Some of her classes were a bunch of big words no one understood. I got a C with effort. If you can understand easily then it should be fine.
No, this class is not easy, but it's not as impossible as many seem to think. She does give a lot of busy work, it seems like, but it really does help for tests! USE THE STUDY GUIDES!! Write out the most thorough answers you can, and you will do well. I could have made an A pretty easily in this class if I had been more diligent with "homework".
She has an obvious, large vocabulary, which sometime makes her hard to understand. It's a lot of reading and constant work, but it definantely helps you learn the concepts. She is obviously very passionate about her subject. Just don't sit on the front row because she likes to talk really loud.
Good teacher, you have do postings on WebCT once a week that are a pain to do, tests are not too bad, discussions in class are interesting
Dr. McClure is very passionate about what she teaches. Unfortunatley, sometimes that equates to students being completley lost in class. She expects what seems like a ridiculous workload. It seems like her purpose is to weed out students who do not "deserve HOPE." I really liked sociology in high school, but this will be my last. sociology class.
McClure is not an easy professor, however i managed a B having no prior psych/sociology experience. Weekly internet postings and reading is a must to pass. Tests are multiple choice/short essay/one long response essay. She challanges you to think about a multitude of things. Go to class!
Wow! The class is extremely intresting. That said it is a LOT of work. Lots and lots of reading. LOTS! The test are hard and attendance is madatory. Overall, the class is enjoyable. You can make an A if you are dedicated.
This class was difficult but very interesting. The work I did was worth it in the end. She is extremely nice and friendly and very passionate about the subject. The tests covered a lot of info, but she gave out study guides which were incredibly helpful if used properly.
Interesting class, feel like i learned a lot but work load is rediculous. Barely got a C. Made a B on the midterm after studying for 12 hours. Journals onine and on paper every week. Awful if you're shy, not talkative like me. Way more reading than is possible. Lectures in words i've never heard. Very nice person but I would never take her again.
Dr. McClure is a great teacher. Do all the readings and study the study guides for the tests and you will make at least a B. She gives a lot of busy work but its really worth it cuz its easy and it will bump your grade.
Honestly, if you are NOT that passionate about racial diversity and racism...stay clear of her. I did my work, and went to class which was not mandatory and was graced with a C. She will have an obvious bias towards you, and favor those who agree with her. She constantly reads online webct posts, so god help you if you write things she disagrees w/
Awesome teacher! I really had no idea if I liked sociology before her class, but she made it so interesting. You do have to do the work but if you don't mind actually learning something interesting, it'll be fine
McClure is one of the best teachers I've ever had!! She has so much passion behind what she teaches it makes you have the same. Her class is work but TOTALLy worth it. I want to take all of her classes. AMAZING teacher!!
mcclure is awesome. she is very passionate about what she teaches and makes it easy to understand. the concepts are all very interesting. know the study guide for the tests and read the chapters and youll do fine on the quizzes. this was my favorite class and teacher
Dr. McClure is an amazing professor. She is consistently at the top of her game with all of her lectures, and truly enjoys teaching her classes. She is genuinely interested in her students, attending her classes is a delight. I have taken her every semested and plan to do so until graduation.
You should definitely take her class! Her teaching methods are very unconventional, but effective. She gets to know every person in her class as well. Regardless of major, you'll get something out of Dr. McClure's course. It was fairly easy as long as you attend class & complete the assignments.
she memorized everyones name. there are weekly assignments where you find examples that correspond with definitions from the book and write about it with your group online.. she gives test reviews and the tests are kind of tricky but if you always listen and study you can get an A.. theres a little too much reading though but plenty of extra credit
McClure was one of the best professors I ever had. Her class does involve a lot of assignments, but they're mostly just worksheets you can copy word-for-word from the text (which you will need). Attendance is pretty mandatory, but the class is EXTREMELY interesting. She is very opinionated, but isn't close-minded. I would highly recommend her!
Dr. McClure is a total Rock Star! She is passionate about her work and that comes through in her teaching. She seeks to challenge her students and make them think for themselves. Her ability to reach students wherever they are in their thinking about an issue makes her such a strong professor.
Dr. McClure is one of the best professors I've had in college. Yes her assignments and classes are difficult, but what you gain from taking her classes is priceless. If you want to push yourself and REALLY learn what sociology is all about you should not leave GCSU without taking one of her classes. Seriously.
She is way to smart to be teaching core classes at GCSU. She is trying to save the world which is admirable but if you are a normal college student that is just trying to take the class to graduate then you should steer clear. An enormous amounts of reading that I've never experienced in any other class. A great person but you should not take her.
Dr. McClure is awesome!! She makes the class so interesting and really loves what she teaches, which makes you love it with her. She is very entertaining and is awesome at putting subjects on her students' level. Take her class, seriously.
If you don't like to read, then don't take this class. 50-100 pages a night. I have made a B both times and taking her again. She is extremely opinionated and you'll never win... take it if you're up for a challenge.. easily one of my favorite teachers, just hard.
Dr. McClure taught the material very well. She really cares about what she teaches. Lots of reading. The tests are NOT easy but they are doable. She's a smart, sensitive and sassy lady. I got tired of the reading assignments and the tests but I still enjoyed the class.
She has a true passion for what she does, and anyone can see that. Her class is one you have to work at, but you will leave with so much more knowledge than you came with. Take her extra credit opportunities, and do the readings she assigns. They'll come in handy. I would recommend her 100%. She's an awesome teacher & wants her students to do well.
Dr. McClure is great! She is a wonderful lady who really cares about her students. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you go to every class she adds 2 points onto your final grade. Pay attention on Vista when there is a spot for a quiz grade and you will be able to tell when they are. Take this class!
Dr. McClure really knows her stuff. Her class involves a lot of reading but is extremely interesting. If you get the opportunity take this course with her!! As long as you take notes and study the study guides you'll do great! She's also willing to help you and explain stuff in depth to you.
She is extremely nice and helpful but her class it not easy. She's funny and knows her stuff but there is a lot of reading. You have to post in discussion boards online twice a week and there are quizzes in class usually once a week over the reading. Her tests are not too hard if you study. If you go to every class you get points at the end
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!! Makes jokes and laughs at herself in class all the time, but always relates it back to the subject. She knows what she is talking about!! A lot of reading required, but you can get awy with not actually doing the reading. Weekly online posts required. Am a Sociology major because of her class. TAKE HER!!!
Dr. McClure is the most amazing professor I've ever had. The readings are a bit much but if you actually do them then you'll do great on the pop quizzes. Her tests are kind of hard but really, if you put in effort you'll get a good great and learn a lot. She's the reason why I'm a sociology major.
Dr. McClure makes it very apparent that she is a scholar of the world. She speaks so clearly with precise facts that are more than just opinionated babble. Read, pay attention in class, and you will do fine on her tests. I always took the all essay option, and I got an A in the class. There is so much good stuff to take away from her class!!!
Really really great professor. She makes every class interesting. Sometimes she is hard to keep up with because she is just so smart, but it keeps you paying attention. There are weekly readings that are sometimes pretty lengthy, but you can get by skimming. Gives study guides for tests, which aren't too bad. Overall one of the BEST professors! :)
She is incredibly smart and interesting in class. That being said, if you are a sociology major, take her. If you're a business major like me and just needed this as a core, steer clear. She is very difficult if you have never taken a sociology class and almost expects too much from a core class.
Difficult class if you are just taking it for core. Interesting class, but the tests were kind of hard. A few pop quizzes throughout the semester. Very smart professor.
Very smart and helpful teacher! She is super excited about her job and is just one the most nicest teachers you'll ever have! Class requires a good bit of reading and online entries but the class is interesting and she makes it very entertaining most of the time. Tests aren't too bad.
She was sweet and very insightful!
5 pop quizzes, a lot of reading, she's funny but I didn't think she was the best teacher for me, not many notes in class but many group discussions over what you were suppose to read, tests are hard and her study guides take a lot of time to complete.
Ignore most of the post on here. If you put in the effort you will get a lot out of this class. Make sure to do the concept notebooks & try to 5 extra credit assignments. If you do you will get a decent grade there are 3 test & as long as you pay attention in class you will do well. If you want an A then do the reading. Great passionate professor.
GREAT TEACHER! She is very passionate about what she teaches. I loved hearing her opinions about social issues. There is a lot of reading for the class, BUT IT IS WORTH IT! You learn so much from the class, and end up gaining so much knowledge and different perspectives about the world we live in. You will need to read to pass the quizzes & test.
Dr. McClure is THE BOMB! She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Lectures can sometimes be confusing but she is very helpful. Her passion for the subject is inspiring and makes you really want to try and understand. She gives TONS of extra credit opportunities. You read a lot but it's helpful in the end. TAKE DR. MCCLURE!
Great professor. Extremely qualified and very intelligent woman. One of my favorite professors at GC. DO THE READING! She gives pop quizzes. Reading ahead definitely prepares you for class discussions (very interesting) and the tests. Tests are not terrible if you start studying ahead. Gives extra credit... TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!
Dr. McClure is amazing! So passionate about sociology and what she is teaching and genuinely cares about her students. I would definitely take her again
Best professor I've ever had! Dr. McClure is one of those professors who makes you fall in love with learning. The class is a lot of work but it's worth it from the knowledge you gain during this class.
Dr. McClure is an amazing professor. Class wasn't mandatory but I didn't skip a day because I enjoyed the class so much. It is a good bit of work but she makes it very interesting and is really passionate about what she teaches. I would 100% recommend her class.
SHE IS AMAZING!!! seriously a genius and best professor I have had. Almost dropped it because she seems really intimidating on the first day, but I ended up really enjoying and thriving in her class. She gives so many extra credit opportunities and an option between a multiple choice and essay tests!!
LOTS of reading. Not a class i would take with many other classes in my schedule. I thought she was a nice lady, but a lot is expected of you and i couldn't keep up.
Great teacher but hard class. She doesn't have a filter when talking most of the times but is hilarious! loved listening to her funny stories.
smartest and most passionate person ive met, caring, really loves sociology. hard tests, but if you know and do your study guide yourself, you will think the test is easy, but it will be hard otherwise. Mine usually end up being about 6-7 pages. Do the readings or at least some background before each class to know what shes talking about & learn
Loved going to her class every week. 3 tests and a few reading quizzes sprinkled throughout the semester. As long as you read the readings and actually attempt to make a good grade in the class you should be fine.
I liked the professor but the reading load (with assignments) was pretty insane for a 1000 level course. Pop reading quizzes were pretty tricky even if you (tried) to read. Luckily there's several extra credit options to replace these grades. Bonus points for attendance. She doesn't have much of a filter which is funny but alienating at times
Dr. McClure is super awesome and funny. She loves her job and teaching her students about sociology. However, be ready for pop quizzes, tons of reading, and hard tests. I'm used to doing well in these types of classes, but it's been the hardest one I ever took.
Dr. McClure is very intense in the beginning and very passionate about her job! Her GC1Y social problems class was pretty difficult especially for a GC1Y. You need to actually read the readings (some are up to 90 pages so dont wait till the last minute) and her test are hard and the study guide is pretty vague.
Dr. McClure is the BEST professor I have ever had. She is so incredibly passionate about what she teaches and her students. She talks a lot, but everything she says is so interesting and insightful. That being said, there is a LOT of reading, and her classes are a lot of work. But in my opinion, it was worth it!!
She is one of the best teachers at GCSU. She really knows her stuff and has strong opinions about it. I found her to be a little intimidating but also really cool and funny. She really likes it when people participate, so do that and she'll love you. Biggest tip: READ!
Dr. McClure is awesome, nice, funny, and passionate about what she teaches! There isa lot of reading every night, but it's over interesting stuff that you are randomly quizzed on BUT don't not take this because of reading-it's really not bad. There are only 3 tests and 5 quizzes, but she gives so many EC opportunities to make it a fun, easy A!
There are 3 tests, 5 quizzes, 11 concept notebooks with EC options available during the semester. For the tests, if you are good at explaining yourself better than answering multiple choice, then take the essay format of the test. Be sure to read the assigned readings!! Her powerpoints do not help as much for the tests, the readings do.
One of my favorite professors. She is so passionate about what she teaches that it makes listening to her lectures really enjoyable. There is a lot of reading but if you attend class and do the reading it is easy to pass and get a good grade.
Good class. She is very passionate about what she teaches which makes her class easier. She is super super liberal and pushes her beliefs on you and tries to make you agree with her. For an extra credit assignment, she said we could make a shirt that said "This is what a feminist looks like" and wear it to campus and record our reactions.. UNFAIR.
CHANGED MY LIFE - A lot of reading and lots of writing. The prompts can be challenging at times but they help you bring all the concepts together in a very impactful way. Would recommend for any class.
Dr. McClure is a phenomenal woman and is incredibly smart. However, the reading load for class is extremely heavy and a lot of times very difficult to understand. It can be very stressful taking her class. Some of the language and concepts she uses in class can go right over your head.
Very great teacher! She definitely knows her stuff. Exams were doable if you studied. Do extra credit because it boosts your grade. You do have to put in work but it was manageable. You also learn alot! Please take her!
Dr.M is highly intelligent but also sometimes irritatingly self righteous. While I personally agreed with a lot of what she said I still got annoyed on occasion, so those with different political beliefs may not enjoy the class. Lots of reading, but other things to help supplement your grade. She wants you to succeed and learn, study guides given
Dr. McClure is one of the most passionate professors. She loves what she does so she makes the lectures interesting and is very easy to talk to. read the chapters assigned and take notes before class (even though it's a lot, it will help tremendously) and take notes during lectures. If you don't understand something, just ask! would take again!
Dr. McClure is easily one of the best professors I have had at Georgia College. Her SOCI 3450 is reading heavy, but it's not difficult work if you manage your time well. She makes the lectures interesting and is hilarious. It is very obvious how passionate she is about the subject and that she cares about each of her students. 12/10 recommend
Dr. McClure is the BEST professor I have taken. She is definitely a hard professor, but for a good reason. It is inspiring to see how passionate she is about her job. She gives a lot of work, but all of it is to build your knowledge, learn how to critically think, and help you throughout the course! She gives every opportunity for a good grade.
Probably the worst teacher I ever had, very rude, tough grader, dont recommend her class
Dr. McClure was the best teacher I have had at Georgia College so far. She manages her classroom really well and is very consistent every week with what is required of her students and how her class is run. It is definitely one of the hardest classes I have taken, but it has been very rewarding and I have loved being pushed to grow in my learning.
Not a good choice for a GCY1 class. Way more work than necessary, don't take unless very interested in Sociology. On a personal level she is kind and understanding, and has stood up for me on many occasions. If I were a Sociology major she would be a dream, but I'm not so it was basically hell.
She's a super nice person. However when she's lecturing in class she's very wordy and hard to understand, especially for assignments. She would explain a lot of things in class and not provide a clear rubric, so her grading was harsh because no one really knew what she wants. The project due at the end was so hard.
This class is way more work than it should be and took over most peoples semesters with the course load. Dr.McClure as a person seems very nice but for this class she was horrible
Dr. McClure is very nice and funny! She isn't a harsh grader. You do have to read a lot and then she gives pop quizzes about the readings. Her tests are hard as well. But there's an easy A of these concept notebooks that is a test grade and she gives extra credit opportunities. She does take attendance. If you have good study habits, you'll pass.
(SOCI 3446) This is my second year with Dr. McClure and I can confidently say I have never met anyone as dedicated to their craft or their pupils as she. Be prepared to read a LOT-- your effort equals your grade. She is incredibly kind and funny. I laugh a lot in this class, but also have developed profound knowledge and wisdom about sociology.
Lots & lots of readings. She is a tough grader on assignments, but is flexible when submitting late stuff. Group project that is a semester long but she breaks it up. She is not clear on the way she wants her papers to be or how the group project's paper should be. Also takes attendance every class period! Never cancels class
Professor McClure is amazing. She is so passionate about what she is teaching and her class is usually fun. Be ready to read a lot because if you don't do all of the reading you will struggle. For her tests she lets you pick between multiple choice and essay tests which I thought was really cool and she also gives a lot of extra credit so take it!!
I absolutely loved having Dr. McClure as my professor last semester. She makes you read a ton but it is all necessary and will be used in later lectures. If she did not do this, she would have had no time to fully explain the more interesting sides of Sociology in her great lectures. Overall, I highly recommend her class.
I can tell she loves what she does, but I hated almost every second of this class. Her passion causes her to not create an open discussion, and her work took up an unnecessary part of my semester. If you can take a class with literally any other professor then do it.
This professor made this class way harder than it needed to be. She assigns a lot of work, and it will take up a lot of your time and focus, she is a tough grader, and is very passionate about sociology and expects the whole class to be. She assigns extra credit, but the extra credit assignments are a lot of work and only replace small grades.
As an incoming freshman, I did not know what to expect. DO NOT take this class if you are not ready to read multiple papers and essays a week, have never-ending homework and pop quizzes. I took this class because I thought it would be fun, she loves what she does but makes it so hard to do well if you don't give it all of your time and effort.
Dr. McClure's class is not easy at all, there is lots of readings to do and her tests are not easy. What I will say is that she is one of the most passionate people I have ever met. She truly cares about the material she teaches and if you buy into her process you can get a good grade and also learn a lot of really valuable information.
Stephanie McClure's class was extremely difficult. She is not clear about her assignments and then grades them hard. I never understood what we were talking about in the class. Before every class, there was a mandatory reading but we never ended up talking about it in class. she goes around the room and wants to do a "class discussion" every class.
Although Dr. McClure is hilarious and very passionate about what she teaches, the class is VERY hard for an intro course. Even though she gives extra credit, she assigns two textbooks for the class, mandatory readings every week, and gives out pop quizzes on them throughout the semester. In addition, her lectures do not consist of anything on exams
Dr McClure's passion for sociology is great but often ruins lectures as there is not much time left for students to discuss. The class felt as though everything had one answer and if you did not agree with her opinion you were wrong. She is an extremely heavy grader and I dreaded going to class. Long readings and questions due for EVERY class.
Dr. McClure is an absolutely incredible professor and person. Anyone who says otherwise has absolutely no idea what characteristics make up a good teacher. But as a senior who took this class to cushion my already brutal schedule, DON'T go in expecting an easy A.
This was the GC1Y class that was mandatory for me to take. I would strongly recommend that you do not let them put you in this class. It was extremely difficult compared to all of the other GC1Y courses that are available. The professor gives a ton of reading/homework out for a class that I felt was made to be an easy first year class.
Dr. McClure is a very kind and passionate professor. She cares a lot about her students and is very accommodating. However, she is one of the toughest graders I have ever experienced, and the workload for SOCI3446 is INSANE. Over twenty pages of dull reading every night. She does not seem to understand that her students have other classes.
She is a great professor, but she is one of the hardest professors I have had in an intro course. She should be teaching honors classes. She is very intelligent and loves what she does, but she is a very hard grader, there are lots of readings to do each week, and she has pop quizzes for them. The tests are insane. Lecture heavy.
She is very passionate about her work but it was a lot of material for an intro class. At least 20 pages of reading for every class and very broad topics were covered on the test. Overall I would not take her again just because of the course load and the harsh grading. We had pop quizzes but she offers extra credit which is saving my grade
I have never been so disappointed in a teacher or the education system before. Professor McClure is by far one of the worst teachers I've had- and that says a lot, as I have transferred with generous scholarships from multiple schools. It is clear that her grading system is opinion-based and it lacks A LOT of structure. GCSU needs to do better.
McClure is very passionate as a person, but I had trouble with her teaching style. She often goes off on tangents and never really answers the question asked. We had a semester long group project that was confusing. There was 1 written exam, MANY papers, and readings 40+ pages every night- it becomes overwhelming. You also never know your average.
Dr. McClure is an amazing professor who cares a lot about sociology. If you are not interested in group work or participating in class this is not the class for you. The main grade is a grade based on a semester long group project. If you go to class, try hard, and are communicate with Dr. McClure when necessary you should do well in the class.
Personally I didn't like the class because I was not into Sociology AT ALL. But nonetheless she is a very funny person and a professor who deeply cares about her subject. If you want to take this class with this professor, be ready to read A LOT! I honestly got through this class with just quizlet
I had her for Sociological Perspectives and loved it! There's a lot of reading, but she tells you the workload upfront. She's a great lecturer who really values participation. Read before class, and you'll be fine. This isn't an easy A, but I highly recommend it if you're genuinely interested in sociology.
She is clearly very passionate about sociology, which I can feel through her witty lectures. She offers many extra credit opportunities, which was very helpful throughout the semester. She made sociology extremely interesting and I learned so many cool things. Attendance is not necessarily mandatory, but make sure to keep up with worksheets.
This class is no joke when it comes to reading— and some of it can be pretty dense. That said, the professor is fantastic. She's super passionate, has a great attitude, and is fair with grading. It's not an “easy A” kind of class, but if you put in the time and keep up with the readings, you can do well.
Dr. McClure is very passionate about what she teaches. It is a harder intro class. There is lots of reading before your first class of the week, and she teaches by using documentaries and getting you to apply your knowledge. If you are not interested in the subject, I would not recommend taking the class. You get extra credit for perfect attendance
She is incredibly kind and cares about her topic. The class is extremely difficult and is very time consuming. She offers short answer and mcq versions of her tests, you choose which you want. Attendance isn't mandatory but gives you extra credit and you need to be there to pass. It will also determine your participation grade.
She loves her job and makes her class very interesting through the material she has us read and just her humor. There's a good bit of reading but it's usually pretty interesting and I didn't find it too time consuming. She offers a lot of extra credit and really wants her students to succeed. I found it pretty easy to do well in her class
You honestly have to get used to her vocab because it can be hard to understand her at first. However, she gives SO many opportunities to get an easy A, so just keep up with reading and studying her study guides. She's also open to giving you multiple choice or essay tests, whichever fits you best, which helped me in the end.
