Study lectures and text!
She spoke to my class as if we were in elementary school. Whenever we asked for assistance she told us to read the book or check the syllabus. She was no help to us. The notes are not posted online. The projects were really interesting and if it were any other professor I would love to retake the course. We were allowed one absence in this class.
She demands a lot, and acts tough the first day but don't be traumatized. If you work hard and print out her power-points for lecture the class is manageable. The tests are tough, but I got an A on every one because I put the time in. It's interesting material, too.
She is super nice, and very easily approachable. She works with the students very well, and encourages you to ask for any help if needed. Her exams are harder than you would anticipate, but she gives lots of grades other than exams if you need to get your grade up.
Do not take this class online. The only thing she was consistent about was her inconsistency. The syllabus never matched her lectures and she expects you to know information that she never goes over in lecture. Her tests are pretty hard and if you don't know the book cover to cover then you are lucky to get a C. Very vague when you ask her for help
Dedicated teacher
She's really nice and is willing to meet with you any time to help you improve your grade or to clarify what you need to know. She's really excited about the topic which makes it more interesting. Her tests are pretty straight forward if you study her notes. You could get by without the textbook but sometimes she is unclear in class so its helpful
She is awesome! Her tests aren't so bad if you really study and truly know the material from lectures! She is very willing to meet with you. You can tell she really loves the topics which makes class a little more bearable.
Lecture can be boring. She is very interested in her topics though.
DO NOT TAKE!
I have never felt more belittled in my life. I felt like I was in elementary school. Surprisingly enough, she spoke to us like we were five but never actually gave us a straight answer about anything. I recommend any other professor if possible.
Her tests are extremely tough and she's so vague on any information you need to know. She's a nice lady, but gets off topic and is not very helpful in exam review at all. Attendance is extra credit basically, but you need to go to the lectures in order to have any clue what she's talking about.
Great professor. Lays all info clearly in lecture powerpoints. Don't bother with the text much or at all really. If you attend class and take notes, that is all you need. Tests are tough but fair. Posts a lot of helpful videos as well. Generally a very nice person! I really enjoy her lectures :) Take this course. But study smart, not hard.
Her lectures are very vague. I had to teach myself most of the material. Her exams are extremely hard, study a lot! She does give you some opportunities to succeed and is a nice person but she is a strict grader. Overall, I recommend NOT taking this class with this professor.
what upset me the most was her constant passive aggressive tone when you ask for help. Her powerpoints are more like snippets of words you have to discifer making the class harder than it really is. Her review sessions are helpful but if you ask her to explain one of the more difficult processes she whines about having to explain it to you. Notafan
Take this course at a branch campus if possible, it's literally a night and day comparison.
Just ask for help
The calculation of her exams were always wrong. No curve.
She is nice but not helpful. Her study guide was copied from the textbook's publisher. Has nothing to do with her exams.
Professor Miller provided great advise to how to succeed in her class, office hours were a great help in this course !
You get points for going to lecture, and some things that she talks about but doesn't put on slides on the exams to definitely get notes or go to office hours if you can't make class. If you ask for help and genuinely try throughout the semester you will succeed, but if you wait until the last minute to study you'll probably get a C
Stephanie understands that her class is offered to non bio majors and has really catered to that in her curiculum. Take good notes in Class and pay attention. If you just pay attention in class and attend all reviews and don't peak at the book, you'll probably end up with a C. You'll definitely have to crack the book open to get an A.
This class is not easy but Professor Miller is more than willing to help clear things up. Pay attention in class and put in decent study time and you will get a lot out of the material. If you are struggling you should go and talk to her. I only had very positive experiences in our 1 on 1 meetings.
Worst professor I've had at ou. You basically have to teach yourself.
one of the best classes at OU stephanie is awesome and really cares about the material she's teaching. do the top hat and study guides she gives you and the class should be super easy to pass. just don't wait until last minute to do the writing assignments.
Class is pretty tough and requires a lot of work, but if you work hard on the assignments, do the TopHat homework, and go to her office hours, you should be fine. Attendance isn't mandatory but she gives points once in a while for in-class participation. She is really passionate about the subject and is more than willing to help students.
Professor Miller is extremely passionate about microbiology. Lectures are not packed with info, should read the book. If you have ANY questions or concerns, she is so willing to meet with you and help. Get 10/10 on writings assignments, easy points. Go to class, she does a lot of in class assignments for points or extra credit. STUDY. love her lots
Out of class assignments. Top hat used as the book and homework. Take the lecture and lab together. Must take time out of class to study. Very personable and willing to talk to any student about grade issues or study help.
Stephanie is very nice and really passionate about her career field. She always makes herself available outside of class and truly wants you to pass. She sometimes even gives in class activities for points. Negative for this class was there is a lot of homework assignments that don't help and take up a lot of valuable time. Overall easy class.
Super passionate about what she does, but has a tendency to go off on tangents.
She has a lot of passion for what she is teaching but is unreasonable with the amount of work to be given. As a nursing student this class is excess work that increases my stress levels.
Amazing professor! The lectures are fun and even though theyre big, it doesnt feel like it. While attendance isnt mandatory, she does frequently give in class points/mini quizzes. The material is useful and beneficial to know for your everyday life.
Textbook is not required, I never really used it. TOPHAT helps a lot, the more you do the better your grade will be. The class is not difficult if you take the time to study!
She's really nice and funny but exams are hard unless you get a study guide. Lecture kind of all over the place but focus on powerpoints and study hard for her exams.
The tests are pretty easy. Sometimes she's not great at explaining things. You should definitely take notes on your computer under the power point because you'll never have time to write it down because she goes too fast.
The class wasn't too hard and she cared a lot about the topics she was teaching. Treated the class like it was small when in reality it was a big lecture.
Attendance is not required but she does do random assignments that won't count unless you are there. She offers lots of extra credit and is willing to work with her students. Test are pretty straight forward and are over what is discussed in lecture.
Stephanie has a background in education which makes her a one of the best science professors I've had in the Science Ed program! She tells great stories throughout lecture and always makes sure you understand the topic before moving on. Definitely come to class as her exams cover stuff discussed in class as well as the slides.
She really loves what she teaches, so it is best to attend every class because that is where she gets her exam questions from.
Stephanie is very passionate about microbiology which helps you get excited to learn.
Lecture is boring but necessary to pass exams. She's super nice and funny.
Very caring professor. Pay attention during lectures and take notes. The exams are exactly what she teaches in class.
Professor Miller provides a great learning environment and truly helps students pass.
Stephanie is one of the best professors I have had during my college career. She is a great teacher and really takes the time to make sure you understand the material.
She is a great person and a good teacher but the class is hard. There are things you will have to make a quizlet for to help you study. The exams are a little vague so learn the specific to the broad.
Amazing professor! She truly cares about her students and how well they learn. I highly recommend having her. She is one of my favorite professors of all time. She actually teaches the material instead of just reading off slides. If you had the choice to attend her lectures or do an online class, just sign up for her class instead!
Top hat reading too much for 10 points- why a lot of ppl dont do it
Great professor with good lectures. You will have to study and do some homework. You write a few short papers that she grades very strictly, but its not too hard to get a good grade.
She was a good teacher, she tried to make you understand what she was teaching. You need to go to class to take good notes or you will not pass the exam.
She is an amazing person and so nice! Just showing up to the lecture and listening will give you most of the material that is covered on the exams. If you have taken any biology course previously it shouldn't be that hard at all. She is very good at explaining topics in detail!
Most of the material that you are tested on is material from the lectures, so make sure you take good notes. Although, reading the text and doing the Top Hat Assignments is helpful in really learning all of the information.
Stephanie was a great professor. She really loves her content, and wants you to love it as well! Her passion for microbiology is infectious! The content is difficult, and to get a good grade in the class you do have to put in the work. That being said she is always willing to re-explain content and her main goal is to guide you toward success.
The tophat in this class is not helpful. If anything it felt like a waste of my time. The key to passing this class is paying attention in class and being able to test well using interpretation of pictures.
She is always accessible outside class. She is very funny and makes lectures very interesting. Exams were difficult but doable if you study.
If you take good notes, pay attention, and do the review guides youll be fine
She's a great teacher and gives good feedback and lots of opportunities for extra credit.
Miller is an amazing teacher and I would highly recommend her for microbiology classes. She really cares about her students knowing the material and making sure they are comfortable with it. She gives great feedback from tests/quizzes and will take time out of lecture to cover "iffy" material. Bonus: Free textbook!
Stephanie is a great professor. I loved her class, and she took me under her wing as an advising student. You should study the general topics of lecture but also dive into the specifics to do well on exams. The textbook is through tophat, but this also includes homework as an extra way to earn points. Would love to take another class with her.
Professor Miller cares about her subject matter and that is appreciated though there tends to be a fair amount of busy work. Also, she lectures a lot and it is sometimes hard to differentiate what you need to know and what you don't.
Lecture heavy Course, but the lectures are interesting for the most part. This is a class you have to study for. Her powerpoints and notes are not that detailed so it is important to take your own notes in class. There are several writing assignments and "concept maps."
She is a great professor, she really appriciates when you come to class. If you want to do well on exams make sure to go to lecture and at the very least read through top hat.
Professor Miller is a very dedicated professor and goes the extra mile to make sure students understand the content. The course covers a lot of material and requires good memorization, but the content is not incredibly hard to understand. The exams are fair and you should not struggle to pass if you show up to class, pay attention, and take notes.
Very passionate about her lectures and what she teaches. You can tell she loves her job. She makes lecture very interesting. There is a lot of information in this course so be ready to make lots of quizlets and flashcards. Exams aren't too terrible but you definitely have to put in a lot of time and effort to get good grades in this course.
Great lecturer, gives too much busy work, interesting class, the closer to the deadline you turn in assignments the harder she grades. Overall, she's a really good professor and lecture is always easy to listen to. As long as you put in the work the class will be easy.
Lecture had most, if not all of the information that we needed for each exam. However, these lectured were presented in a way that brought in a lot of different details that you don't need to know or subjects that are more of a side note for Biology majors. As a Psychology major, it made recalling the important stuff a lot harder.
This class was overall a great bio class to take. She teaches overall well in lecture though if you miss the lecture, you might not pass. The test are tough but fair. Study notes, read tophat out of class, and go to office hours if you need them. She available out of class so use it if you need it. There are some extra credit in the class.
Ms. Miller is very passionate about microbiology and loves teaching. The exams arent too difficult. There are 4 short writing assignments which she has high expectations for. There is also some top hat and participation assignments for easy points. Make sure to attend lecture because she adds a lot of important information to the slides.
Professor Miller really cares about the material she teaches. She's very nice and a little quirky. Always available outside of class and encourages you to ask for help. Course itself is not super difficult but it definitely does require a good amount of time outside of class. Attendance not mandatory but there are random participation assignments.
Prof. Miller cares about her students, she takes the time to go out of her way to make sure you're doing fine in class, there was a time where I was swamped and didn't perform as well as I do on exams and she approached me after class to make sure everything was alright because she cares about her students and how they do in her class.
Definitely one the most caring professors I've ever had
take it over the summer at home. Makes it hard for absolutely no reason and nothing is straightforward whatsoever.
Professor Miller is pretty straightforward just like her exams. She gives a review before each exam that is very helpful. You could study the day before the exam and still get a pretty decent grade. I would definitely recommend taking this class online though! The in-class lecture is more time-consuming.
This lab is a lot more interesting and enjoyable than I thought it would be. Professor Miller takes the time to make sure people understand the material, but this is a challenging course so make sure you ask for help when necessary.
She is such a nice person. I always feel comfortable coming to her with questions. She is one of the kindest profs I have had. The information is challenging which means you need to go to class. But if you go to class and take notes she is awesome!
Great professor, and she is able to explain things clearly. Pay attention and follow the study guides in order to do well.
Take advantage of pre/post labs, points add up. Study for quizzes more.
Very nice professor but her lectures are all over the place. In her lectures, some stuff matters and other stuff is useless and it's impossible to tell the difference. It's very obvious she cares about her students. Exams aren't hard but there are writing assignments that require real work. I would recommend to take it online
Professor Miller is very knowledgeable. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, and a couple of projects. The final is very hard, but if you do all of the reviews and practice questions and review the videos of questions missed you'll do fine. Do all homework, all bonus work, all discussions even if you already reached the points you desire.
Prof Miller is just amazing. She is so kind and understanding. She responds to emails quickly during business hours. She provides study guides, which are about 2 pages long but are SO helpful. Instead of just answering the questions on the study guide, go more in-depth to better your understanding. That way you'll do great on exams!!!
Professor Miller is a great professor. If you're a bio student and need to take this class, take it with professor Miller. If you are looking for a Gen Ed and you aren't required to take this class do not take this class. I am a COB student and struggled through this class, and it took up all of my time to prepare for the tests.
She's very sweet, but I feel like her lectures and work are very disorganized. Her exams are harder than they should be, she words questions harder than I feel we learned in class. I'm a nursing major and I'm required to take this class so I have higher priority classes to worry about and I wish she understood that, bc lots of the class is nursing
Lectures are VERY disorganized. I learn more when I study on my own than in lecture but she requires you to go. Study guides are nothing like the test, they help with general knowledge. Also does not email back quickly. Youre required to do group projects and presenatations. Its easy if youre a good test taker. Interesting class though.
Very disorganized when it comes to her lectures. I never missed a class or an assignment and still did not do good on the exams. She talks about things that are irrelevant to the material or explains something in a way that doesn't answer our questions. We do group projects like we're in middle school instead of being taught like college students.
If you're a biology major, you will coast through the first 2 exams because they are basically reviews of BIOS1700. Everything after is still easier than most core classes in the BIOS track. If you aren't a biology student, get ready to absorb information from the first day through the last day of the semester. There are easier 20XX classes 1000%
lab aligned exactly with the quiz material. as long as you put the time in during class you have nothing to worry about.
After taking A&P, Microbes and Humans felt easier. It's clear Miller is very dedicated and has a bubbly, kind personality. She's always open to help or do exam reviews. My only critique is her disorganization. Miller often struggles with tech, and though exams are all multiple choice and could be on Canvas, she insists on using pencil and paper.
Professor Miller isn't good at using technology, she often takes five to ten minutes at the beginning of each class to set up. She gives study guides but they are not at all comparable to the tests. Some of the terms on the study guide we didn't even learn about. She is nice, but she takes a while to respond to emails. Don't take if not needed.
Dr. Miller is a very kind person with a great personality. She does struggle with technology, but she tries. The material is pretty hard but not impossible to grasp if you pay attention and study. The exams are tough, but I love that she is flexible and willing to change the way exams are set up if the class is struggling. TAKE LAB it will help you
Good Professor- start studying for exams early, fairly easy, just a lot of material!
She was a very nice teacher, very passionate about microbiology. She's not the best with technology and exams are the only thing that will help your grade, difficult to get grade up if you fail a test. Offers ton of extra credit that barely does anything to your grade. Lectures are actually useful and doesn't just read off slides.
If you have never taken a biology class you will struggle, the exams are difficult; but, if you are willing to study and are showing up to each class you will succeed, I was able to score a 95 and above on each test due to this. She wants everyone to succeed, you just have to put work into your success.
