Hard class but a great teacher. She posts lecture outlines online which makes it easier to follow along in lectures. Highly recommend.
She is an excellent teacher. Clear and very helpfull. HIghly recommended!!
She is not as demanding as some other A&P instructors, but her expectations are extremely clear and her test questions are well written and fair. She is also approachable and has a great attitude.
She provides lecture outlines and only tests off her notes which is really nice. She does quizzes, which require that you are constantly reviewing your notes..which is good. Tests are random, sometimes she asks way too detailed of questions. She gives a lot of details, which can be overwhelming to study. Not bad though.
This class was Hard, but Stephanie is a really good teacher. I like that her notes are available for printing. A huge amount of material is covered in this class, I had trouble even though I studied my bootay off. I do recommend her though because she explains things well.
Stephanie was an amazing teacher. Being young, she seems to remember what it's like to be a student and will let you know what you don't need to waste your time on. Of course, A&P is a tough subject, so you have to take it upon yourself to study your ass off...but Stephanie definitely does her part to make the information straight-forward.
Although helpful and available outside of class hours, her lectures were usually poorly prepared, often clumsy, unclear, and with mistakes. Her labs lacked in content and instruction, though she was available to answer questions, of which there were many.
Stephanie was great. I think that this class is meant to be the "weeder", but if you follow Steph's outline and keep up with the reading you'll do fine.
SHE IS AWESOME I TOOK HER FOR MICRO AND WISHED I HAD HAD HER FOR ANP SERIES... DEFIENTLY TAKE HER SHE IS GREAT
I found Stephanie's lectures to be hurried, and her tests confusing. On the final she asks for two symptoms for a certain disease, and listed only one in lecture!? She's also infamous for not giving partial credit on short answer questions, which can drag your grade down quick. If you must take her, remember to fight for your grade! You earned it!
This professor was great. She was very enthusiastic about the subject she was teaching. She gave excellent real life examples and provided an outline for her lectures which was easy to follow and beneficial in studying. I would definitly take another class from her!
I took Bio 112 with this teacher I ever had this kind of biology teacher she is confusing unprepared I ended up with B but I don't learn anything from her class even you can not takes notes from her lecture her lab is a lots of wrong instruction, her test is confusing she don't use text book, she always complain about the text book
I loved this professor. She was very helpful. The tests were over the material she covered in class. She provided an outline and we filled it in with what she said it made it a lot easier to take notes. I would reccomend her. She is great.
Fast paced lectures - be prepared to take LOTS of notes. Didn't use the book much. Weekly quizzes (throw out your lowest score) & one simple Internet assignment. I found her tests quite challenging. USE HER WORDS on essay questions and know the material inside & out. Stephanie's class made me a better student. Hard work and commitment = A.
Good lectures, interesting topic (microbiology), easy to ask questions, brings in side material that's interesting (news clippings, etc.)
This teacher makes you not want to take A&P ever again. I have never meet a teacher that changes the test quest to manipulate her own material. she like to make up her own language and not even use correct termenology. she a total, you know what I mean. If you ever have to take A&P dont ever take it from her. Run, and run fast.
Notice both of Stephanie's complainants are illiterate. If you can't use periods or commas, I don't want you involved with my healthcare. This is a great teacher: organized, clear and encyclopedic. No written homework, but be prepared to study hard - it's prep for healthcare, not "Hotdog on a Stick". PCC is lucky to have Stephanie, and so are you.
Stephanie is great! This is a hard class as it is and she makes it WAY easier. People don't get how lucky they are to have her as a teacher compared to other teachers! She's always encouraging people to meet with her if they are having trouble and she's willing to help! Seriously take her for an A&P teacher, you'll be sorry if you don't!!!
She is the best teacher ever! If you put in the effort and work with her, you can get a good grade. She is my favorite teacher!
Great, any student lucky enough to get into any of her classes will learn much, and she's cute to boot! tough class, lots of studying, Stephanie is a great instructor had her for A and P I and II
Stephanie is GREAT!If you have any questions, she is always willing to clarify. She makes a very tough subject manageable. Be prepared for alot of studying, but she is fair and consistent. She will not test on anything other than what she has provided on her outlines. Definately recommend her! I will take her for my entire A & P series.
If you are a serious student, i.e., you go to class and keep up with the work, you will love Stephanie. She makes the material very accessible and is very clear about what will be on the exams. Otherwise, she is just cool and respectful of the fact that you are working hard!
Great. Exams reflect the outlines. Smart and has worked in the field. Very helpful and hard working. All that and cute to boot! Seriously, Steph. Rocks!!
Stephanie is a great teacher!! She follows her outlines and tests straight from them. Beginning of the class is hard if your not scientifically minded but once you get past the chemistry of it its fun and interesting. If you study the outline you will do great!!!
Stephanie is a fabulous teacher with your best interest at heart. Some students found her difficult, but I enjoyed her teaching style. You have to want to succeed, but she gives you a lot of help and preparation for future bio classes.
Stephanie is amazing! She is clear about what is expected and tests are difficult. However, lots of hard work will pay off. I am hoping that the people who gave her bad ratings are not going to end up in the medical world!!!! You shouldn't take the A and P sequence at all if you are not prepared to work super hard.
She tells you exactly what will be on the tests through her lectures, and only tells you what she deems to be important. She responds to emailed questions quickly and she helps when possible. She puts her students first during those scheduled class hours. She is tough, but I feel I have earned my grades only through hard work & regular attendance.
Does not rely on textbook, so not sure why it's required. Bring a recorder as she speaks fast and tests from her lectures. Lab is big part of grade but she provides little direction on identity of body parts. Her strength is physiology. As with any A&P be prepared to study hard.
Stephanie is one of my favorite teachers. She is very clear on what you need to know, as her tests are based off of her lectures. Just be sure to go every day and take notes and you will do great. I rarely had to crack the book because she is so thorough in her lectures. Definitely recommend her. I'm waiting to take A&P so I can take it with her.
Right now, I can only say good things about Stephanie. The only A&P instructor that doesn't use powerpoint(It's proven that a person will not absorb information well with powerpoint). She's fair, knowledgeable, and teaches stuff you'll use in the future. I can still clearly repeat info months after it was taught. Also, tests are straightforward.
Word of advice....bring a digital recorder to her class. She talks fast, so it's best to invest in one. Especially if you're always on a 3 second delay in science(lol). She is a real good teacher, and is straight foward with her test. I like that her tests in only on what she lectures. I will miss her dearly! I wish she taught microbiology!!!
I liked this class. Stephanie's lectures were thorough and her little side notes and stories are funny. The tests are challenging, mostly the short answer section. The Scantrons are pretty straightforward. Anyway, take her class, she's awesome!
Stephanie was a great teacher. Her lectures are very clear & she lets you know exactly what to expect on the test. She grades a little tougher on the Short-answer section of her exams but if you take good notes you shouldn't have a problem at all. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! In fact, I'm taking her again for the whole A&P series!!!
Her labs are useless. Spends too much time talking about personal business. Does not allow for makeup even with doctor excuse. Only people who pass tests are those who have taken the class twice.
Good at concepts, but says that the book (which is VERY expensive & required) is incorrect & you have to go by what SHE says only. Record the lectures because you will get it wrong if you don't use the exact words she wants you to use. I have been a 4.0 & now have to retake this class. You will do great if you record & memorize ALL exact words.
This is the worst instructor I have ever had. She is so nasty to her students and will mark correct answers as incorrect and if you complain, like a group of us did, there isn't anything that can be done by her supervisor. You are basically stuck with a moody teacher that can do what she wants with your grade. Run the other direction!
I took Stephanie for Bi112 intro to A&P, she was great! Now having gone through Bi231 (different teacher) she more than prepared me for the material. She had great outlines to study and take notes from which made the material easier to grasp. I would recommend her to anyone who is serious about learning the material and appreciates a real person.
After re-taking this class with another instructor, I realized there was a lot of information I was missing. Her world is memorization, which is ok for tests but not for application.I want to understand and enjoy the subject.I felt very dismayed as she stated more than once that she expected half the class to fail. Not a positive environment.
A&P is difficult with a ton of material to learn, Stephanie simplified whenever possible which was helpful. She does cover things pretty fast, but pay close attention, record her lectures, study lots and you'll be fine. there's essay questions so be sure to study any "list" of items or if she draws out on the board, it's game for essay questions.
she's alright. not terrible, not the best. pretty fair. she tries to act all hard and intimidating on the first day, not sure why but softens later.talks about her kids and personal life way too much.it's like: who cares?? like she's the only one in the room married with kids?
Stephanie was extremely helpful this term. She's very interested in the subject and in teaching it to students. She's got a wealth of knowledge and shares stories to help support the material. I really enjoyed her and am looking forward to taking her again next term.
I took Stephanie for BI 231 lab and she is very rigid!! It's her way or the highway. This is a hard course and she is a tough teacher. She is extreme on spelling and not interested in extending help. She talks a lot about personal life and not enough about anatomy. Only take her if other classes are full.
She is a type of teacher that has no expectations whether you pass or fail. It is a very difficult class. I was not able to grasp concepts. You have to memorize what she wrights on the board, because that is what is going to be on the tests
I like the fact that she is so passionate about Anatomy & Physiology, but I didn't feel that she reached out to different types of learners very well and she does not like answering questions.
She is horrible! Hated her. Talks too much about her husband & kids.. noone cares!! Doesn't answer questions, has one specific way of teaching that doesn't work for everyone. Talks down on other instructors. Dropped the class. Shes horrible.
Stephanie is a wonderful teacher! I love her techniques with keeping powerpoints strickly for pictures only. She utilizes the white board for most of her lectures and she is extremely thorough! She doesn't tolerate lateness, which is great! Sit in the front take lots of notes, RECORD THE LECTURE AND LAB, and STUDY all the time! Take her&Good Luck!
Stephanie is amazing. She does talk about her family, but in ways to help us learn from her experience. They're are example related. She is rated better than all other instructors for a reason. :) Do not be late and record lectures. Print out all Lab and Lecture objectives and don't miss any classes and you will be fine. I will miss her!!
I had Stephanie for the whole Anatomy series and she is amazing! Anatomy is a very hard class and is difficult with any teacher but she made it much more manageable! She is very clear about what you need to know for tests, and she's always available to answer any questions you may have. I highly recommend her for any class!
Stephanie really knows how to teach a class, especially a hard one. She answers all your questions and she is pretty comical. I love how she makes a laugh and is down to earth. She bases all tests on the lab/lecture outlines. I recorded classes because it was easier to go back and listen to her again. She can speak fast/zip through lectures. I<3Her
Stephanie is so concise in her explanation of things. I took the series before, and tried out a couple different professors. Additionally I've had a couple different subs in A&P. Stephanie is by far the most clear and concise of the A&P professors I've seen. She's also very patient and helpful if you don't get it at first. I very highly recommend.
Stephanie is rad. My advice: print all of her outlines, go to every class, take good notes, ask smart questions, and take advantage of open lab opps. A&P is WORK, doesn't matter who the prof is. But Stephanie is rad. You will miss her no-nonsense style if you get stuck with another prof for 232-233. There's no extra credit, stay up from the jump.
She's relatable and funny, and has patience with questions. learned a lot more from her short lectures before lab than from my actual lecture teacher.
Not very good at what she does! She is all over the place with her lecture. The only way to do well is tape her lecture and know it word for word! Even in her mumblings, write it down! Her exams are tricky and the weekly quizes are not easy either. She should leave her personal life at home and not include the students about her short comings. Stop!
I cannot even express how much you should NOT take A and P from Stephanie. She hates questions. Spends ridiculous amounts of time talking about her husband and kids. She's unclear about the level of detail required for answers and writes the most confusing exam/quiz questions. I routinely got 100% on essays 70% on multiple choice.
A&P is a hard class. You won't be successful in this class if you don't put in at least 20hrs of study a week. That being said Stephanie was a good teacher, very clear about what she wants you to learn. Print the outlines and use them, they are very helpful. I also used audio note to record lectures and take notes this was critical.
A&P is HARD & you must put in many hours of study time to get a good grade out of this class, but Steph always kept it interesting. Don't miss any classes, use her outlines, don't be afraid to email/text her, and go to open labs. She does not offer extra credit. I had her for all 3 A&P's and I didn't open the textbook once. Take from her!!!
For a 3 hours class she talks for about 20 minutes. It feels more like an open study period than a class. She explains how we "should" spend our time then sits in the corner with her computer. I'd rather have a teacher that wanted to TEACH than to teach myself from my lab manual. She also tried to tell way too many personal stories about her family
A very knowledgeable and forthright teacher, who gives solid outlines and follows them. IF you show up, pay attention and study really hard there are no surprises. She is tough on her grading. As far as her self deprecating stories, they are humorous. Don't like em? Don't listen, use the time to study instead. Focus on the outlines. Be thorough
I don't understand the negative reviews about Stephanie. I really enjoyed taking A&P 2 with her. I felt like she explained the subject very clearly to us and the tests were hard but on topic and clear. Study the outlines and you will get a good grade. She also shows a lot of interest in the subject and is really funny! Love her.
A great professor. She doesn't use the textbook at all which was nice, all quizzes and exams are based on lecture so even though attendance is not mandatory, it's not a great idea to miss a class. Everything is pretty straight forward in this class.
Terrible. Did not teach out of our required $280 textbook, but got all of her info from some other source. Said she was tired of changing her lecture around to fit different textbooks. Made studying at home useless and nearly impossible. Rolled her eyes at questions. Talked about her personal life constantly. Avoid this instructor at all costs!
TAKE HER! She his super chill and interacts with the students really well. She has such clear explanations before each lab and she isn't really picky which saves time. I will say, before every quiz, make sure to read the lab book a couple times but over all, really fun class. learned more from her than my lecture teacher. you won't regret it!
I found Stephanie to be organized and the outlines she gave were very helpful. My biggest peeve was that she would explain things from the outline, then word them very differently on the exam. She is picky, which can be both good and bad, but with how picky she was it didn't really make sense to change the wording. Emails back took a long time.
Here it is: If you like a laid-back personality in a teacher, someone you can chat with about your personal life, you will like her. If you are someone like me, who likes rigorous work, wants correct answers to my questions instead of made-up responses to cover gaps in knowledge, an instructor who really knows the material, don't take her class.
Loved Stephanie as a teacher, hated bio 231. It is ridiculously hard and the amount of information covered is exhausting. Good luck to students taking bio 231 with any teacher. But she was great and made learning and lecture outlines amazing.
Stephanie is the best instructor I've ever had. Her expectations are very clear: Everything said in lecture and on lecture notes are fair game for quizzes and exams. If you study regularly, you will be fine. It's supposed to be a challenging class. She's hilarious and though she talks about her personal life, it relates to what we are learning.
She's a great person and she's a good teacher but she wasn't very clear at times. I felt her outline for the weeks could have been handled more evenly and sometimes her test questions were really confusing. Help is there if you ask for it, and she truly wants you to learn it but her lectures weren't as clear cut as other AP teachers.
Stephanie is great. Cut and dry, no fluff. She gives you outlines and fills them in with you during each of her lectures. You know EXACTLY what you need to know for each test. Makes flashcards easy. She is a FANTASTIC lab instructor as well. She will go through objectives and tell you which lab model or slide each item will be on.
Stephanie is very insightful and structured--you go out of class having a good idea of what you need to know. Print out all of her lecture outlines and fill them in as you go. Quizzes: fill in the blank/short answer. Tests: mult. choice/essay. She's enthusiastic and engaging, and is very thoughtful of students when they have questions.
No multiple choice. NO help. No homework. Always talks about family (they've been through a lot OMG!!!) Anyways i wouldn't recommend it . A is a dream.
Stephanie's exams are very very hard and confusing, words things poorly. she rambles about her family life in class, she doesn't act like she enjoys teaching. she always says the textbooks are wrong. AVOID LIKE A PLAGUE!!!
A&P is a tough class, and I thought Stephanie helped me understand the material well. I felt that the tests were tough, but fair. I would definitely recommend taking this class from her.
Stephanie was excellent for 231. This is my second round of A & P (my first was outdated), and she makes it a point to make sure her students understand. She adds humor to a subject that could be dull and dry. Her tests have no surprises, but be prepared to study.
Astonishly slow-paced lectures introduce college-level terminology with minimal explanation. She explains concepts like someone only vaguely familiar with them. I literally have felt as though I were back in high school and a classmate who had memorized all the material got up and attempted to teach the class. Nursing? No? AVOID.
I had better teachers in high school.
I really enjoyed her lectures, but when it comes to test if your late you don't get anytime to cover what you have missed and for quizzes you might miss the quiz. She has lecture outlines that are clear and she covers every point thatch wants you to understand. Attend Class to Pass
You must show up and listen in class. Doesn't really prepare you for the big exams. You get used to her style and can figure out how to succeed in her class. But I just didn't feel like I was learning. She will answer any questions you have, she is super nice and knows her stuff. If you miss a day you are in trouble.
She is great if you're a visual learner. She writes everything out on the board and for me that is helpful. She doesn't do PowerPoints but she does give good handouts. You do have to write a lot down and missing class isn't recommended.
Stephanie's teaching style is very clear & concise. She makes outlines for each lecture & sticks to them. Test are only on material covered on the outlines. She is very straightforward, not tricky at all. A&P covers a huge amount of material and requires a great amount of studying. I'm grateful for Stephanie's ability to simplify & explain clearly
Anatomy and Physiology is a difficult subject but Stephanie is a great teacher. She has a way of breaking things down so you have the best chance of understanding it. You can tell she is very knowledgeable and enjoys teaching. Exams are straight forward and she only tests on what she lectures so DO NOT MISS CLASS!
Seemed really inconvenienced by anyone asking a question or wanting clarification. Doesn't go in to much depth about the concepts - basically just writes the things you need to know on the whiteboard for you to memorize and then moves on. Felt like I was just regurgitating information and not actually retaining it.
Quiz to start every class. Clear cut experiments that follow your lecture prior to lab. She explains the lab, asks for questions and lets you go to town and do what you want. She will lecture if you need it and it is helpful but sometimes the materials for the lab are wrong and she doesn't check, nobody notices until their results are messed up.
I would recommend Stephanie to anyone who wants to learn a&p. She's really great! I love how clear she is and how well she explains. I can see why some people think she seems inconvenienced by questions but some people ask inconvenient questions! You have to study a lot but Stephanie makes that very easy to do with lecture outlines.
Stephanie was a great teacher. she only does short answer questions on quizzes so beware if thats not your thing. The lecture and lab material are really hard but she does a great job explaining and her lectures are really great, worked well with my style of learning and taking notes. Study hard and youll do great in her class!
Professor Mirkes is hands down the best science teacher I've had. Her lectures are engaging and the tests and quizzes are 100% based off the lecture material. SO if you are a bad note taker, record the lectures for review. Seriously though this class requires a lot of outside studying but again it's all off the notes. Also QUIZLET is your friend!
she is a great teacher keeps you interacted and is not borning at all. Her classes are very straight fowards and lecture and labs are great. def use tv anatomy to study because the icons in thelab manual are horrible to write on and use to study. def need to study for this class. its easy class if you pay attention
Mirkes is out of touch and lacks clear communication. Unable to move backwards on tests and impossible time limits. Do not expect help if you are a slow reader/typer, you are at a severe disadvantage on tests. Does not explain nor communicate expectations for typed test answers, but expects a minute amount of detail with a ridiculous time limit.
Absurd testing policy and absolutely no flexibility on that, even if you are supposed to be receiving accommodations. She also talks about things in her personal family life during class that are really inappropriate, irrelevant, and triggering for a lot of people. Otherwise good teacher IF you can handle her testing and aren't neurodivergent.
Professor Mirkes is great! She truly wants her students to succeed and provides many resources to do so. She is great at providing clear instructions regarding her expectations of students. She responds quickly to emails, and grades fairly fast too! Be ready to study and memorize. The final is not cumulative which is a plus! Highly recommend her!
Great professor! Constantly asks if anybody has any questions during lectures and she records them as well (big plus)! Also nice and helpful when answering questions and quick to answer emails and grade assignments/tests. I wish I could take her for every class! That being said, you MUST spend hours outside of class studying, A&P courses are hard!
