NICE, FUNNY, ORGANIZED.
Good teacher, fun class, made it interesting
She is a very interesting teacher that really knows her stuff. Came off as the smartest woman I've every met. Very helpfull and you actually learn stuff from her class (if you pay attention). I enjoyed coming to class each day. Take her class.
Knows her stuff, but stay on her good side!
shes really funny... i hate history, but this is actually a good class. take her if you can
She's VERY entertaining. She does take attendance nearly every day, but the class is worth going to anyway. Gives out a study guide for the tests also.
Nice and funny. Almost always keeps you for the full hour and takes attendance every day. Gives you lots of extra credit opportunities and seems very smart. She seems less interested in boring dates, and more interested in lifestyles of the past.
Interesting, funny and enjoyable class.
Her class is cool, just take notes and read the chapters which are fairly well-written. She does require reading two books outside of text and a paper on each of them but I wrote both my papers at 5am and got all the points and the books are pretty good!
This class was ok. She makes a lot of stupid jokes and it's just the same thing everyday. Tests are pretty hard, there is one essay on each test but she gives you the question before the test. The two papers you have to write SUCK!
Very one-sided on issues and only shares her views. She makes some people feel dumb if they give the wrong answer in class. She knows her stuff. Don't know if I'd recommend her or not, but I don't think I'd recommend any HST prof. at SMS!
Not the easiest class i've ever taken. She plays favoites alot. I feel like there are better instructors for this class.
Funny, interesting, lots of extra credit opportunities. The tests are kind of hard but read the notes and chapters and u should do fine. There is an essay on it but she gives you topics beforehand so you can pre-write it. good class, takes attendance evry day.
she is a good teacher and her class is fun to go to. she tells jokes and talks about current issues alot. She gives out study guides to all her test and she gives the essay in advance. If you try and go to class everday then you will be fine. she doesn't care if you call her at home for help.
great class. history is my least favortie class and I enjoyed going. She is whitty and talkes about important current issues. Take her...she gives out study guides for every test. Only one paper. great proff!
The tests are easy, same thing everytime and she gives a study guide and the essay questions before the test - just make sure you go online and look at them. Come to class every time and take notes instead of just copying down her outline and you'll do well.
She can be very rude and make you feel extremely stupid. If you argue with her on an issue she gets really ****y. There is extra credit and she gives study guides online before the tests but I never did very good on them!
She makes class interesting and lets the class have group discussions.
Very knowledgeable, gives exam reviews and extra credit opportunities, and is entertaining in class. Does look at spelling and grammar on papers. If you go to class and study you'll do well on the tests. She's great! Highly recommended.
She is an alright teacher. The test were very very hard. I studied so hard and could never get better than a C. She does give extra credit and explains very well. I would have taken someone else if I would have known better. I had to work my *** off to get a B in her class.
If you actually put up an effort you should do well in this class. Everything on the study guides is on the tests so if you fail you are a moron! The only thing bad is that you have to read a book but it is very easy to read and on the essay she isn't looking for much. Study the class notes and book.
Mrs. O'Neal is a great teacher. Her lectures are interesting and she gives insight that helps explain events. She posts a study guide the week before the test if you know everything on it you will get an A.
She knows her stuff, but shes pretty tough, especially quizes and tests
Take this class! She is a great prof, and she is very helpful. Her lectures are fun to listen too, and she is funny!
Her quizzes and tests are difficult, but she is a fun teacher and always willing to help, i would recomend her
This class is really interesting and her sense of humor makes history fun. The tests and quizzes are pretty easy, so take this class if you actually want to learn.
Professor ONeal is an amazing teacher! Before this class, I had little interest in History, but she makes it really interesting and she is really funny. As long as you read the chapter and take notes, the tests arent bad at all.
She is a very good prof. She makes history very interesting and she is a funny person. The quizzes were not too bad as long as you pay attention in class and study. As long as you go to class and pay attention you should not have a problem.
she explains stuff really well, but there is a quiz about every other class period. you HAVE to read the book other wise you won't do well on quizes or tests. other assignments are pretty easy though.
She is really funny and interesting. However, her quizzes have absolutely nothing about what she teaches. you have to read every single thing in the book or else you will make 50's on all the quizzes no matter how hard you pay attention in class.
The class is rather boring, but she is fairly nice and usually available for help if you need it. She gives out here home + office phone so you can get help anytime.
Makes tests much more difficult and confusing than necessary. Studying your notes from class will help a lot, but she'll ask questions over minute details or broad concepts that can't be captured in the notes. Grades papers in weird ways, not necessarily fairly. Achieving a B is easy enough if you pay attention, but an A would take some work.
Really enjoyed her teaching style of story telling. Read the book before class because many of her in class questions come directly from the book. Her test are a little harder then you would think, but read the book, look over the study guide and you should be fine. Would love to take her again.
She's very interesting for a history teacher and is very easy going. I like her.
The lectures were funny. She told great stories. However her tests are very hard.I talked to her about how to do better and she showed little interest because everyone was doing equally bad.I was disapointed in this class.
Great teacher! I don't like history at all, but she is funny and makes it simple to understand and interesting. Her tests are pretty easy if you know the study guid she gives. She also gives a lot of extra credit!
She is a great teacher, but the class itself is a little boring. Its for sure a leture and note class. Notes are the main focus of the class period. Very helpful in and outside the class. Grades easy and gives many chances for extra credit.
She is a great teacher who is willing to help whenever she can. The class its self was a little boring, because its mostly leture and note taking, but she made them more interesting for the most part. Gives many chances for extra credit!!!
This class is easy. I never read the two books except for the 3 one-page essays. She gives study guides, and you can wikipedia the info. She puts her outline on the overhead and you just have to write it down. She tries to make it interesting, and succeeds most of the time.
The class is not boring at all compared to other classes. The tests are super easy if you study at all. She gives study guides and if you study it for an hour max the day before the test you can ace them. I got 100 percent on almost everything. She is really nice, funny, and doesn't have favorites.
These is a pretty easy class. In fact the hardest thing about it is having to read the REALLY bad noval that she requires everyone to read and write a 6 page paper about.
A lot of work for a 100 level class. Teacher is to very smart and sometimes witty and humorous. Mandatory attendance and NO CELL PHONES!!!!!!!!!!
Great teacher, would take her again.
She is an awesome teacher. You do get points for attending class and pretty much everything she talks about is in the book. She provides extremely helpful study guides for each test and the notes that she provides during class are wonderful. I would recommend her to anyone!
I would take this class again. Oneal is very entertaining during class so it's never dull. Notes are easy to take and she gives out one assignment a week thats usually easy. Gives out study guides for tests that are pretty straightforward and easy if you study. You will have to write a paper on a novel. Easy as long as you read the book.
This was one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. Tests come DIRECTLY from the study guide and notes and that's it. A few random assignments and a lot of bonus. She keeps class pretty interesting with her sarcasm. I would definetly recommend her to anyone who wants to take an easy gen ed. Easy A if you just do your work and study.
Seriously would never recommend this teacher. She tries to make the class hard and it's only a 100 level class, most people in my class were doing terrible. Not to mention she grades like your writing your Master's thesis on assignments its ridiculous! If I was you I'd find a different teacher.
Throughout the whole class, she tries to make a joke out of everything. If your class doesn't use the same book she does, you'll never hear the end of her excuses why her notes are out of order. She loves to get off topic and does it quite well. I found myself slowly drifting away several days.
If you want to send her an email, expect to wait a few days to hear back from her. I felt like she treated us like little kids in the way she spoke to us. Not very into helping outside of class. Doesn't stick to what's pertinent information. Always goes off on tangents about things having absolutely nothing to do with the class. I don't recommend
I hate history but she made it so easy and tried to avoid the worst part of learning history: memorizing dates. I found her humor to be amazing and she really is a nice lady. Just do the assignments and extra credit and go over the study guides before tests and you should AT LEAST get a B
You will find that if you keep up with her study guides before every quiz and read ahead in the book it is an easy A. Attendance mandatory, she's funny at times, the Source papers are a pain. Makes class very interesting! Lots of extra credit.
Great lady, will help if you ask. READ YOUR BOOK & GO TO CLASS. Has study guides for every quiz, midterm, and final. Gets boring at times, but it's really easy.
One of the best instructors I've had. Made history fun & has a great sense of humor. Class is mandatory but if you miss she let's you make up your work. She also gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. I was always horrible with names and dates, but she made it easy and gives good notes. take notes come to class & you'll do great!
If you can handle boring teachers that require attendance and simply get the job done, this will do for you. If you expect a little more for your money, I recommend going elsewhere.
Hardest class I have yet to take in college. It is not easy to get an A in this class, she's tough. But everything is very structured and if you work hard, you'll be fine. Everything is worth so few points, so don't miss anything or not study. I loved this class and the instructor, but don't be fooled, its not easy.
you all are crazy, this teacher is absolutely ridiculous. her notes dont help at all with the tests, she makes class mandatory and i try my hardest not to sleep the entire time, and she gives a STUPID paper. she is hard to communicate with. FIND SOMEONE ELSE
I absolutely hate history but Dr. O'Neal made it interesting! Class is definitely not easy-I had to study like crazy for tests. Does offer extra credit. 3 tests, 1 paper, and a final. Gives study guides. Tests are multiple choice, matching, and fill in the blank. Be prepared to study!!
Tests are brutal and classes are boring... I study my ass off for the tests, make 5-10 page study guides for myself based off her study guides, and I still fail... I'll be lucky if I even get a D. ALWAYS SHOW UP FOR CLASS. And do not sign up for an 8am class.... you will fall asleep.
Worst professor I've ever had. She is not helpful at all. If you do not understand something don't expect to go to her for help. She's very rude if you do poor in the class. Study guides do not help at all.
Great Professor, I skipped three class periods and passed with an A-. If you show up and have any measurable memorization skills you'll pass. we read two novels and did papers for both, she graded fairly and her tests are not that difficult.
She made history interesting. She gave her lectures with a dramatic flare, which I appreciated since the course material can easily become dry. She was always extremely clear about exactly what she wanted in her assignments.
Delightfully humorous and cynical perspective brings what could be dull lectures to life. She likes interacting with students during lectures. Gives study guides for tests. Papers never over a page in length, although she is fairly particular on grammar. If history doesn't come naturally to you, follow her clear expectations and you'll be fine.
Honestly, just don't take her. She's bearable, but definitely in my bottom 3 of every teacher I've ever had. She's rude to students and treats us like we're stupid if we don't know the answer. Test questions are confusing and worded weird and her notes are not helpful whatsoever. Wouldn't take her again!
Tests are in depth, need to know a lot about the material. Gives 20 points worth of extra credit. Attendance was also worth points. Gives good lectures.
The information for the tests come straight out of her PowerPoints that she presents in class and you take notes on. Overall a straight forward, easy class.
I do not like history whatsoever. It was very test oriented class with a few scattered papers in-between. The papers were analysis papers that had to have a very specific writing choice. Was not the biggest fan of her teaching style.
Shes nice, and your allowed to have a bunch of extra credit. Shes really into her lectures. Taking it at 8am was awful, but shes a solid choice.
Professor O'Neal was a great History teacher. she made her lectures entertaining and was able to capture my attention. Her tests are not too hard compared to other history professors. She has a ton of extra credit opportunities. I would take her again if it was an option!
The class has few points, so it's important to go to class!! The tests are easy enough IF you study and read the textbook! Study guides are given, but you have to put in time to looking up detailed answers. Had to study a lot for tests, but the other assignments were fairly easy. You also get 5 extra credit points just for showing you voter id!
there isn't a lot of stuff to do in this class so getting good grades on them is important. but she does offer a lot of extra credit opportunities
This professor gives study guides and extra credit. You will have to work hard for your grade and read the book, which is usually expected. She is nice and her lectures are helpful. My class had 400 points possible. Attendance is graded for 25 points total. The rest was on three test, a final, and four papers. So, your grade is mostly based of test
She is a funny old lady, tells a lot of history stories. This class has a total of 4 tests, 2 papers, and 20 participation points. If you miss more than two classes you automatically get 15/20 on participation and if you miss more it will rapidly decrease. She also offers 20 points of extra credit. Her tests are short answer and multiple choice.
She is great. Go to class and take good notes during the lecture, review them a few times, and you will get an A on the tests. 3 tests, 2 papers, final, and 20 points for attendance. Offers up to 20 points of extra credit (watching movies and showing your voter ID for 5pts each) any time before the final. She does tell irrelevant stories sometimes.
This class was always such a chore to get through. She talks very slowly and dramatically, but mostly only says what is on the powerpoint (which is on blackboard, but attendance is mandatory). I did not learn much. She also loves to complain about little things that don't matter and don't pertain to class.
She is a great professor. I think she really cares about what she is teaching and that we do well. It's mostly exams, there's no homework but you should at least skim the book. She gives study guides for the exams and that is mainly what is on it. She gives tons of extra credit opportunities and attendance counts. I would take her again.
I loved O'Neal's class. In class you can expect just a lecture and ppoint. Not that exciting, however she has a dry sense of humor that can make it fun. She is not a tough grader, just do what's expected of you. Her tests are what is on the study guide so definitely look at that. Use the tbook because it gives much better context than notes do.
I absolutely adore this woman. I've never been a huge fan of American history but she makes it very interesting and is clearly passionate about what she teaches. If you study for the tests, do the papers (they're very easy), show up and take good notes, you will have no trouble getting an A!
Dr. O'Neal is a great history professor because she's great at telling stories. She gives study guides for every quiz and exam and you don't have to know too much about each subject as long as you get the jist. She gives a ton of extra credit that I should've taken more advantage of. She's kind and sarcastic and makes class interesting.
Mrs. O'Neal is great, she gives quizzes every other week that are multiple choice, fill in the bank (she tells you what it'll be), and maybe a short answer. The study guide helps you know what's on the quizzes. There are 3 essays which are easy and she gives a very clear rubric. She is very funny, sweet, and caring. One of my favorite classes.
A good choice. Only graded on quizzes, essays, midterm and final, but there is a chance for up to 20 bonus points and when there's only 500 points in the class that's a lot. The essays aren't graded too tough just make sure you read the books they go with. But you do not need the text book. Attendance is very important in this class.
Professor O'Neal made HST 121 quite enjoyable to attend! She's a great professor, as long as you love history, I suppose! The papers weren't too bad and there are no pop quizzes! Make sure to study and pay attention! :)
Let me just say. If you enjoy taking a class from a professor who is unbelievably petty and immature, tells you where you can and cannot sit, and seemingly enjoys making students feel stupid for attempting to answer a question, this professor is for you. When we went online because of COVID, this professor totally dropped the ball. Don't take her!!
I loved Mrs. O'Neal, her lectures are great; there aren't any tests, just 25 point quizzes every 2 chapters and two essays. The actual textbook is unnecessary. The only downside is you can't use any technology to take notes.
Prof. ONeal is amazing! She brings history alive through her vast knowledge of events. Her class isnt just a historical timeline, she makes historical figures personable and explains events so they truly make sense by tying in global issues. Extra credit opportunities, always quiz outlines, and clear paper guidelines. Take notes during lecture!
I love Professor O'Neal! She is so funny and really cares about her students! She is an amazing lecturer and really gives great examples to connect history to our everyday lives. One thing that you have to do is STUDY! The guide she gives usually has many of the things on the test but make sure to remember what she says about photos for 1st one!
Quizzes are pretty easy. 2 essays all year. Everything is on paper, and you have to print your essays. Takes attendance and it's hard of your grade! Textbook is nice but not necessary. Easy extra credit! Sweetest lady ever and tries to make it entertaining.
I enjoy professor O'neal as a person, but as a teacher.... its a no from me. Class ALWAYS ran at least 5 minutes late. Quiz heavy class, she gives study guides but they are nothing like the tests. Comprehensive final was harder than most of my upper-level classes. NOT a fan. Only saving grace is the extra credit. SUPER tough grader on papers. 3/10
She is obviously very knowledgeable but extremely unaccommodating. Doesn't communicate well & not informed on mental health issues. Acts more like a middle school teacher than a teacher at a university. I enjoy her lectures but not much else. Grades harshly on papers and doesn't leave room for personal interpretation really
An AMAZING history professor, she gives wonderful lectures that are really fun to listen to. All the information you need for the tests and quizzes are given in her powerpoints so as long as you take good notes you will be fine on the tests. No laptops or phones in class, some people don't like that, but it makes you actually pay attention.
I honestly liked Mrs. O'Neal. She really appreciates participation but is very blunt if you say the incorrect answer. No sugar coating AT ALL. If you put an ounce of effort into studying you will do fine on the quizzes. I got a 100% on one of the essays so it is possible if you actually understand and put effort into it. You get what you give.
Class is easy if you pay attention in lecture and turn things in. Several extra credit opportunities available. I found the lectures entertaining.
This is a pretty average class. There is a lot of information but if you study and read the textbook you will be fine. Some of the things on the test are in the book so make sure to get the book. 2 papers throughout the year and they are pretty short and easy. Very nice instructor. Gives a lot of extra credit though.
She is a super nice professor and is super knowledgeable about what she teaches. I loved that she offers A LOT of extra credit opportunities to get your grade up. The only assignments consisted of 2 papers and some tests. She is a tough grader for the papers, though! She also doesn't allow technology so you do have to take notes on paper.
Study guides did not help very much on tests I did all the work and filled them out every time and still barely knew the test content
I enjoyed Professor O'Neal's class. She can come across as a little scary at times, but her lectures were always interesting. Her tests were also easy so long as you paid attention in class and took notes. I completed the study guides she posted as well, but I think it would have been possible to score well without them. Lots of extra credit.
us hist to 1877...Mostly lecture and at times she leaned to a side. But if you go to every class and take notes. Its an easy A.
