I've actually enjoyed this class and found it to be relatively easy. There is a small quiz every week and the problems come directly from the homework. I've done all the homework and studied for all the quizzes and tests and I have an A. The homework and studying can be time consuming, but if you're determined, you'll do fine.
I thought she was very helpful, and her explanations of things were very understandable. Usually math is my worst subject, and Im easily doing well in this class. There is a quiz every week and a few tests, but she drops your 2 lowest quizzes, and lowest test score. Do the homework and come to class and youll do fine.
Teacher was amazing! I seriously learned it all during her lectures and I am not a math fan. She has patience and is super nice. She knows what she is talking about and explains it well. I highly recommend this teacher. She dropped like 2 quizzes and 1 test. Super easy! Too bad she not teaching pre-cal I would have taking her class again for sure!
She is very helpful in class. I've learned everything straight from lecture and have very rarely needed to look at examples in the book. Weekly quiz w/ 1-5 questions on it. Drops 2 quizzes and a test. HW didn't take any longer than 2 hours a week. Used earlier edition text for $7 instead of $130 for new edition. VERY easy A. Great Teacher!
Very helpful teacher that truly cares about her students. You have to put in the work but it is not too demanding.
Amazing teacher! I typically struggle in math, however, her explanations are easy to follow, and she does many examples and different approaches to help you. She drops the lowest test score, and makes useful study guides and lets you know she's available to help!
Wonderful instructor. She really cares and is very helpful and very clear. She gave credit for homework & gave 120 pts for take home quizzes (that was like 180 points you had to TRY to miss) which really helped for people who had a hard time on some of the tests. She graded fairly and gave credit for knowing what you were doing if the math was off.
Best math teacher ever! She takes an extremely hard subject and makes it understandable and easy. She explains things extremely well and makes sure no one is left behind. There is plenty of work, HW every night, lots of quizzes and 5 tests including final, but none of it is overwhelming. She sets you up perfectly to do well in later math classes.
Tough subject, but she does her best to make it as easy and as clear as possible. Note taking is especially easy in her class. Homework and attendance actually count for something in her class, which is good if you aren't good at tests.
Gives points for HW. Really explains things with tons of examples. Gives partial credit on tests. Math is hard, but she's a good teacher.
I thought this class was easy but possibly because the material was simple not her teaching methods. However, she will drop a quiz and is quite clear in her lectures and gives practice tests.
Terrible teach... only cares about gettin a whole bunch of notes done which ar unecessary an hardly goes over the hw...goes over the sections fast... if u want a Great teacher that explain thing very well TAKE Silveria!!!
It is clear that she is new at teaching. She knows her math but doesn't connect to the class. She gives lots of examples but does them fast - hardly engaging the class. It's like she is doing the problems all by herself. She didn't even try to learn our names to break the uneasiness in the room. Class hardly asks questions. Stiff, boring class.
Boring class. Tries to trick the class. I usually like math. When I leave her class, I am confused. I read the chapter myself and it is much clearer. She overcomplicates math and makes learning very drab.
Prints out notes & gives step-by-step explanations of the problems. Text only used for homework. Gives formulas on test. Extra credit questions on the tests.
Awesome teacher. organized. You know what she expects on the homework and tests. She's fast gradin papers.
Wonderful teacher! She really does love math, and her enthusiasm rubs off. Never really liked math before but now I do! She gives incredibly clear notes and lectures, real easy to understand. Her tests are very fair and she gives some extra credit on exams. She gives plenty of office hours and is very nice and helpful. She makes math fun! Take her!
She gives grades her exams faster than I thought possible, and yet very fair and thorough! Really appreciated that. She really cares about her students and her subject, and that's what makes a great professor!
One of the best teachers I've had. Gives out notes with examples. Makes things clear. Some teachers can't TEACH math. She can, it was my fault I got such a low grade. I recommend her to anyone.
Really helpful, pretty easy in comparison to other math classes. Shes pretty cute as well which makes going to class a lot easier.
Professor Sorenson is very nice, and I totally love her way of teaching. She gives notes and goes through them in class. You need a book for hw only. I would strongly recommend doing every hw assignment because she collect it and sometimes gives quizzes. 4 exams, including final, but they are easy if you do everything on time.
Professor Sorenson Makes Math Fun! She Hands Out Notes, Takes The Time To Make Sure Everyone Is On The Same Page. Gives Helpful Reviews Day Before Exams, Plus Study Guides. I Would Take Her Again For Higher Level Math, Because Of Her Helpfulness!
A great math professor that made attending a math class fun and easy (you still need to study for it)! I will take her classes again til i finish all my math classes! Key note though, you need to follow her syllabus like no phones in class.
She the best teacher ever. She knows a lot how to teach math. She is very nice and understanding and helpful. Her class is not easy but as long as you do homework, you will be in a good shape in the class.I had her class last semester. As I keep going through upper levels in math, I realize how much I've learned from this teacher.
Awesome teacher. She is very helpful and clear on what she wants. She gives you printed out notes that you can write on. Her tests come from homework problems and examples from the notes. The class is hard because of the material. Hard to get an A, but possible to pass because of her help.
The best teacher for math. Very helpful and clear. Math feels so much easier with her. Textbook is use for homework problems only. Save yourself money, just copy the problem sections from library's reserve textbook. Got an A for this class. Highly recommended.
With this teacher your on your own to do good in class, she is a good teacher but she just wants to move fast and get the class over with, and when someone asks her to do more examoples SHE WONT because she simply says No cause she doesnt have time to and she asks you to go to her office which alot of people dont have the time to.
Probably one of the worst teachers I have had in a long time. She was very unclear about the material covered and she was all over the place. She kept showing the class stuff that she even admitted we did not have to know. I am good at math but she made it impossible to learn.
Professor Sorenson is great! Clear on subject material; very clear handwriting on board; she types her notes out and has graphs on them so you can fill them in while she goes over examples, rather than having to try to scribble everything down (hard to do with graphs). Go to class everyday, take good notes. She makes precalc easy if you try
She is an incredible teacher, highly recommend! I showed up to almost every class and never did the hw (which she doesn't check!) and got an A/B on every test. She answers students individual questions and clearly demonstrates the problems. She doesn't call role but if you didn't go I don't think you would do well. She makes math really easy. Take!
Very interested in helping you learn and dumbing it down to your level:~)
Though math may not be an enjoyable subject, she made things really clear. She's super nice I would definitely recommend her.
Sorenson is such a nice professor I liked her a lot but I have to say that I had a hard time and not because of her but the material is pretty tough and for me we moved a little fast. She gives printed notes and is willing to stay after class. There are take home quiz's and 4 exams.Homework and attendance is not mandatory but recommended to do well.
Stephanie makes math easier to learn. Despite the class being hard, she will make it more clear, better to learn, and give good example. She is also a nice teacher as well
I think that she could have been a lot more helpful. She doesn't offer extra credit and doesn't make content clear. I suggest not to take her
Sorenson is a good teacher that takes time to help her students learn. This was my first math class after more than a decade and she made it a very painless refresher. She made course notes for her class that she taught from every day. Perfect study guide. Textbook is mandatory for homework, if you choose to do it.
I haven't taken math in a number years so going back into algebra was not something I was looking forward to. I took Prof. Sorenson's class on a recommendation from a friend, and it was the best thing I could have done. She has notes that she lectures from and it makes it very easy to study and follow along in the class. Highly highly recommend!
Miss class once and you will have a hard time keeping up. Lectures start at the beginning of class and don't end till the time class is supposed to be over. Her teaching can get confusing sometimes and she gets distracted really fast. Her explanations are prolonged and not very clear either. She has a great personality though and is very nice.
Professor Sorenson had great lectures that were very clear! She wants her students to thrive and is willing to help if you need it. Try not to miss class because we covered so much in one class that it can be difficult to catch up. As long as you try your bestcomplete all of the homework and quizzes before exams, you will have no trouble!
Math is a difficult subject for me, if I had put in more effort I would have gotten a better grade. Professor Sorenson understands that, and was really helpful. She offers a lot of support and can be lenient. Don't skip class, do all the homework, get hundreds on all the quizzes, and go to tutoring at least before the tests.
Prof. Sorenson is one of the best professors I have ever had. Math is hard for me and it had been 10+ years since I had taken algebra in HS. She never made me feel dumb, or slow, if you show that you care about your grade, she is always there for you. She worked around my court hearings, stayed late at office hours, and she's available in the LRC.
Math is hard, and there's a lot of information in these math lectures. The entire class will be a math lecture, and online homework takes longer than writing it because you have to answer everything correctly! But she obviously wants you to pass. She answers all questions, accepts late work, and makes it easy to understand.
Unfortunately the most time consuming math class I've taken. Finished with a 98% but not to mention that I spent 2-3 hours each day on this class because of the online homework- she assigns a LOT of it. I didn't like how when the whole class would do badly on a test, she would say it was all on us for not studying. Kind person but awful teacher.
Sorenson is a great professor, it's clear she is passionate about math. She is sweet and definitely will answer your questions. Over all class is lecture the whole time. The only con - and I find it extremely note worthy - is the immense amount of HW assigned. Yes HW helps to practice.. but unless its the only class you're taking, its a no go.
For someone who is taking a beginning algebra class....I was not expecting chemistry or physics thrown in there. At my time at saddleback I will never need to know this. She's very in love with math, that's for sure, but I don't think she realizes a lot of us aren't and are just trying to pass. There's a lot of hw and tests are very hard.
Hard grader, tests are much harder than homework, notes, and pretests. Be ready to take tricky tests with lots of outside the box questions. Although hard tests, great professor. Keep up with homework or you will be lost.
Do the homework, take home quizzes, and practice tests in order to do well in the class. Focus on the concept questions in the hw--similar questions will appear in the tests. This is a hard class, but she wants you to do well. Her lectures are straightforward and make the math almost seem easy. Don't be fooled though; the tests are tough!
Such an amazing teacher! I have struggled with algebra my entire life, until I took her class. She cares about her students and I never felt intimidated to go to her for help. Tests are a little tricky, although if you really try on the homework you will be just fine. Seriously one of the sweetest people I have ever met. TAKE THIS CLASS
Such an amazing professor and she's SO nice. She makes the class very enjoyable and simple. She has her own set of notes that you buy and follow in lectures throughout the course and it is SO helpful. It's somewhat a lot of work but that's expected in any math class if you want to do well. I highly recommend this professor, she's the absolute best!
math does not come easily to me but prof. sorenson is an excellent teacher. 13 quizzes (your lowest 3 are dropped) 4 tests over the course of the semester, so not really a final as it is not accumulative. lots of homework, but if you do the homework it will help your grade tremendously. take her. any math class requires work. she will help you tho!
I had Professor Sorenson for math 353 my first semester at Saddleback and I was very pleasantly surprised. She is very passionate about what she does and has a great way of explaining everything, you can tell she cares a lot about her students and wants them to succeed. I have never enjoyed math before this class and she really changed that for me!
Mrs. Sorenson was a great Math 253 teacher! She was very thoughtful about her students and focused on making sure they succeeded. Homework was online, which was perfect (and easy) for me. If you need to take math 253, take her! She does a great job at answering questions. Make sure you make time to be there for most classes and you will be fine!
I had Professor Sorenson for Math 253 last semester and she is an awesome teacher. She gives homework online and exams in class. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Go to class and you'll do totally fine. There is SOME group work, but it's not overwhelming at all. I would choose her as my professor for every math class if I could.
She is SO NICE. She's very encouraging and responsive. If anything is difficult, it's because of the material itself, and she offers her time to help you with whatever you need. The class is totally self-paced, so you can jump ahead if you want. She really tries to set you up for success. I'm looking for her for my future math classes!
She does take attendance and will drop you if you don't show up. After the drop deadline she admitted she can no longer drop people, so some people stopped showing up. If you don't show up though be aware you wont understand the material when she has the test. Test is very hard, and she does have office hours if you need help.
Took her math 351 online class. Super nice, caring, and gives good feedback. Her tests and homework are fair. Whenever I have a question she always responds very fast. I deff recommend.
I have never had a better math teacher than her. She is so sweet and really makes sure that you understand the material. Definitely, recommend going to class because she explains the material very well. Didn't use the book at all. You use her textbook throughout the course. It is very easy to understand her textbook with the hw.
Professor Sorenson is a solid teacher, she makes it easy to understand concepts, If you need help she will for sure help. Not too tough of a grader, but the class has a lot of information to study
Wouldnt recommend this professor for math 8. Tests are very hard and her reviews arent that similar to her tests. Test is 80% on test scores and she doesnt drop any tests. Nice lady, but makes this class too hard. I would recommend taking this class at ivc. Lots of homework and is only 15% of grade. The other 5% is classwork.
Amazing math 3A professor! This was by far my favorite class this semester. I walked out of the class with a solid understanding of foundational calculus. I'm looking forward to 3B and I wish she taught that class as well. Take this class, you won't regret it!
This is the second time I have taken Professor Sorenson and, again, she didn't disappoint! She is very kind and wants her students to succeed rather than fail from dumb mistakes. There are 3 exams that are heavily weighted on your grade (though they are similar to the assigned homework), so make sure to study or go to class regularly.
Professor S is an amazing, caring teacher. She has office hours and will always help you. She prints out notes for you so taking notes are easier. She is an amazing professor.
I absolutely loved Sorenson. Our class was completely online because of the pandemic, but she was hands down the most caring professor during this time. As long as you pay attention during lecture and do the homework, you will pass with flying colors. Her tests are representative of the study guides, homework, and notes. Love her!!
Late work is accepted for minimal deductions. She is very understanding and easily reachable outside of class. This course takes a lot of work and a big time commitment however professor Sorenson seems like the best choice.
Professor Sorenson instructed the math class via video lecture notes and homework assignments. There was one quiz due at the end of every week and helpful discussions. There was a total of 3 exams during the semester, and she also gave optional practice tests that were helpful in preparing. She is an excellent and supportive math professor.
Professor Sorenson is a phenomenal professor, to say the least. Pay attention during lectures, do the homework ahead of time, and study the study guide closely for exams. If you can do that, you will have no trouble working for the grade you want!
Overall she's a solid teacher. As long as you put in the work and time, you'll do fine.
She is seriously the best teacher. She gives quizzes that you can work on with tutors or classmates. Very detailed and helpful study guides. Offers extra review sessions. Exams are straightforward and represent material learned in the class. She was honestly such a blessing, I got a 98% in the class and barely had to put much effort in. LOVE HER!!
Professor Sorenson is kind and helpful. I absolutely loved the lectures in this course. She takes it slow and includes review; which allows you to develop a deep understanding of the material. Note that I took the support class too. Homework and exams are manageable; just do the work. Ask for help and utilize office hours; she wants to support you!
Do not be fooled by the rest of the reviews, as they are outdated. After seeing how much we struggled in an in-person class since COVID, she decided to make it even harder on us. Quizzes are no longer take-home and you can't use a calculator/notes on them. Half the class dropped after the first exam. Your grade heavily depends on the tests.
She knows her math, but more importantly, she knows how to teach it! Anyone who gives her a subpar review, just doesn't put in the work and expects a good grade. If you listen to her lectures, do your assignments, and STUDY, you will have no problems passing her class!
Solid professor. I was sad to have to drop her class. There is a ton of homework, but I found that calculus is a class that you learn by doing so it is truly for your benefit. Plan to spend at least an hour a day on homework. All around a very passionate teacher who will both guide and challenge you.
Professor Sorenson was awesome. She is just a genuinely nice person who cares about math, and wants all her students to succeed. There is a lot of work, but staying on top of it makes it so it's not bad. And the tests are open book, and you get unlimited tries on quizzes and homework. Like I said, she just really wants you to succeed. She's awesome
Professor Sorenson is the best math professor that I've ever had. Easy on the eyes too ;) She's very passionate about math, is very lenient with grading, and overall makes it very easy to pass the class. You have all the resources available to do well in the class. It's up to you to stay on track of all the work. Don't procrastinate hw!!
Sorenson is the best professor you are going to get for MATH 3A at Saddleback. Take it from someone who failed this class with Perez and took this class with ppl who dropped Westphal. Her tests are near copies of the study guide and she lets u make a formula sheet to use on the test. The subject is hard, she will give u your best shot at passing.
I liked her class and teaching style 90% of the time, but most of the time i felt as if she was talking and teaching us like kindergarteners. It made me not want to be in her class. But her feedback was always super helpful and her office hours were perfect.
It was very hard to get through this class. I've taken 2 other calc classes before this and somehow it was hardest to learn in her class. She is pretty boring and makes calc more complicated than it needs to be.
Professor Sorenson is a knowledgeable and kind teacher, but the subject matter in her class is taught unnecessarily complicated, making it difficult to grasp. Assignments are lengthy and more complex than the lecture material, which requires a lot of time and effort to complete. Some answers are so long that they seem like a NASA equation.
Nice teacher, but her teaching style made the subject hard to comprehend. Homework was long and much harder than the tests and study guide questions. No calculators on tests or formula/cheat sheets. The study guide would be 50 questions and the test would be 20. A lot to cover, just for some of the study guide questions to not be on the test.
Can't recommend enough. Lectures filter out garbage from book, are easily explained, and available online Lots of homework, but manageable Examinations are fair One of if not my favorite mathematics teachers
Amazing teacher, very helpful. I would take every math course with her if I could. She does a great job explaining concepts and making it easy to digest for the student. Highly recommend.
Wish I was able to take a class with her again. Lectures were easy to follow along with and she made sure to answer and clarify any questions you had. Everything in class was also saved online in a class notebook, so if you miss a day you could still see the notes. Amazing professor!
I had a pretty good experience with Professor Sorenson, the only issue I had was that I oftentimes found her way of teaching certain things a little confusing, and I had to do quite a bit of learning on my own for some of the chapters. Other than that though, the work load is pretty light and you have plenty of time to sharpen your skills.
Professor Sorenson was by far the best math teacher that I have ever had, her lectures always kept the class engaged. She gives clear study guides and formula sheets that reflect how the tests will look. She will focus heavily on trigonometric identities, but you will easily be able to get an A if you memorize them.
Professor Sorenson was nice, but her teaching made me struggle in this class. She would take time explaining concepts we should already know instead of the ones she was teaching. Study guides would take up to 3 hours to complete with most of the questions not being explained on notes and in the end more than half not ending up on the test.
TAKE HER!! I took her Calculus 1 class w/ support and it is super doable! Class is 4 days a week, but only 2-3 hours of homework each week. This is by far one of the best math classes I have ever taken. She explains concepts very clearly and splits the course into 5 tests so there's no midterm or cumulative final. TAKE THIS CLASS.
I really liked her, even though I'm not a fan of math. She's so kind and always has a positive attitude during lectures. The homework can be pretty lengthy, but it's super helpful for the exams. She provides study guides with questions that are identical to the exam, just with different numbers. Definitely take her class!
Super nice and a very easy class to take as long as you put the effort in. She had large packets all ready to go that include the necessary tools to study which was much appreciated as someone who's bad at taking notes. She goes very very slow though so I often got bored and zoned out but that could be helpful to those who struggle with math.
An overall splendid professor! She is truly so sweet and nice. Her lectures are easy to follow, and the homework is easy. Studying is required to pass the tests, but her guidance makes it easier. I would 100% recommend this class.
Professor Sorenson has been my favorite math teacher I have ever taken. Yes this class is hard but she will make it as easy as it can be. Her lectures are very easy to follow if you pay attention and she will answer any questions that you have. Her tests are just like the review packets and she does give partial credit! Take her!!!!!
I struggle with math so much but Professor Sorenson clearly cares so much and will dedicate her time to helping you. If you struggle with math at all I recommend you take her class
If you haven't taken a math class in awhile and you're just starting out you should totally take her math124+ support class. (trig) Answered all questions I asked and explained why. Never made a student feel bad for not knowing something that is usually expected to be known by college. Great and caring professor, would 100% take again.
