She is a great teacher, but she is a morning person! All of her classes are early! She is always available during office hours, and has extra stuff on learning for you to take notes on. Very organized and explains mostly everything.
She is a morning person with a very bubbly personality. I loved getting up early to hear her lecture; she has a real passion for chemistry and tries hard for her students. I liked all the "free" online grades we got and the exams are pretty much the same as the old exams they give you to practice. LOVE the class!
She is very interesting and keeps the class fun by incorporating fun hands-on activities. She is usually very clear about the subject.
I like Dr. Taylor, I really do. She seems very knowledgeable and is always willing to help outside of class. However, she wastes time in her lectures rambling about "announcements." And she also interrupts herself a lot. I don't know how to explain it. She's just not a great lecturer. I went to a review with Dr. Sra, much clearer.
Not the greatest lecture giver in my opinion, I started sitting in Dr. Sra's lecture and she is SO MUCH BETTER. Honestly, going to class didn't benefit me at all. That being said, however, she is always in office and always willing to help you out if you don't get a concept. She's better one on one.
She's nice and it's obvious she loves chemistry, but she is not the best lecturer unfortunately. Attending her lectures are pointless so I suggest going to a different prof's lecture session (pretty much any other chem prof is 10x better) if you want to understand the material and get a good grade on tests. Only attend when there's an in-class hw.
Dr. Taylor is a great lecturer! She always has plenty of real life examples to relate to what we're learning in lecture, and, if you don't understand, she's always helpful in her office hours. She's very energetic and really wants her students to do well. Love her class!!
Dr. Taylor is very nice and always there to help if you have any questions! Gen Chem 2 is a difficult subject in general in comparison to Gen Chem 1, therefore sometimes you need to do some practice on your own (especially acidbase titrations). But she often brings outside examples to help understand the material better, and genuinely cares.
Don't like her lectures compared to some of the others. She always uses handouts and takes too long to cover a topic. Overall, lectures not very helpful. Study the homework and take practice exams. If you take her, you can still easily do well, but I would recommend other professors.
I hate getting up in the morning, but her class is always interesting because she is so excited about chemistry. She is always available to talk to students and very approachable. She cuts herself off sometimes in her excitement but I still find her easy to follow.
While she is a little crazy, and she walks around a lot, she is very helpful and she explains everything very well. She is very helpful with the online assignments. Gives out handouts for guided notes towards the end of the semester.
She was awesome! Spunky, cares about her students and always willing to help. She came to campus on spring break just to help students with test material! Online homework through Aleks(yucky program), and difficult test but that is up to the department as a whole, not her. My favorite professor at UTD!
She talks a lot and is very enthusiastic. Take notes and study the powerpoints. Mandatory homework through ALEKS. Go to the review sessions and do the homework assingments that aren't mandatory. They really do help SO MUCH. I loved her class.
Focus on book material and lectures. Dr Taylor spent HOURS with me outside of class. She is DEDICATED to students and teaching them on every level. She dumbed things down to 5th grade level sometimes for me to understand. She is the BEST teach. The class is hard but worse with other teachers; taught on a MCAT level would be fare to say.
She's great. Took her for both Gen chem I and II.
I actually have Dr. Dieckmann for 1311 but occasionally I would attend Dr. Taylor's lectures because I think that her lectures are more appealing. She gets straight to the point and sometimes she'll even do experiments during class. She truly loves chemistry and teaching and she's cool and approachable. SI Sessions, PLTL are your friends
Dr Taylor is pretty unorganized most of the time and a bit quirky. She puts everything into terms a lot of people can relate to and understand and occasionally makes the class humorous. She just is very unorganized which does not match well with my personality type.
Dr. Taylor is really enthusiastic about chemistry and is a great lecturer. She makes her power points accessible online, as well as her many other worksheets and resources. I always felt well prepared for the exams.
She was patient and accessible outside office hours. ALEKS helped me prepare for the exams, but don't waste your time on the homework. Instead, read ahead in the textbook and do every problem she gives in her handouts. Do last year's exams, know it well, and you should do well.
Dr. Taylor gives great lectures that make an hour fly by. She goes fast sometimes, but posts notes online. If you don't understand the first time, she's available outside of class to help. She was a real joy to take and her enthusiasm for the subject (as well as for teaching) shows in her lectures. Do as requested and this class is a breeze.
Dr. Taylor was not my first choice as my Gen Chem I professor, but she sure turned out to be the best one. Chem has always been of interest to me, but Dr. Taylor made chemistry more intriguing and fun! There is not a doubt that she has a passion for chemistry. She is very accessible during office hours and gets on your level of understanding.
Took Taylor for CHEM 1 and 2. Worth it both times -- prepares you well for exams and homework, extremely accessible outside class. Very passionate about what she does and makes a challenging subject enjoyable. Often brings handouts that summarize lecture. Covers a good amount of practice and theory. I'm not a morning person, but her 9am made me one
Took Dr. Taylor for both Gen CHEM 1311 and 1312 and I don't regret it. CHEM 1312 was definitely more challenging, but take Dr. Taylor's advice to do the homework (aside from ALEKS) and you will do extremely well in this course. I will surely miss the tremendous amount of help she gave me throughout my first year, but she's always there to help you.
Dr. Taylor made chemistry the easiest class of my semester. All topics were explained thoroughly and comprehensively, and her lectures were actually enjoyable! Would definitely recommend.
Took Dr. Taylor for Gen Chem 1 and wish I would've taken her again for 1312. Lectures are as entertaining as they can be and she's always there for us outside of class. Even when she wasn't my prof in 1312 I still went to her for help and she was glad to be of assistance. Difficult tests, difficult class, but the best professor I've had at UTD.
Dr. Taylor is an amazing professor who conveys the material that you need to know in the best way to the student.
I'm writing this for the students who basically didn't have a chemistry class in high school. Chemistry is hard. Dr. Taylor is by far your best option though and everything she teaches in class can easily be understood. SO GO TO CLASS. Be prepared to do plenty of work outside of class too :) phenomenal professor.
She's thorough and a really interesting lecturer. Perfect class for freshmen, because she holds your hand through the entire class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but clicker questions are a small percentage of the grade and everything on the test will be covered in the lectures. Only critique is sometimes she goes on tangents. Great office hours!
If youre taking chemistry, take her. Taylor will ensure you understand the topic by using several analogies and examples. She will do anything to teach a topic, including get on top of the lab bench to explain electrons getting excited. All tests are the same throughout teachers, and she makes sure you are prepared for the test.
Brilliant Professor, very knowledgeable, she is also very funny at times
DR. TAYLOR IS THE BEST! Definitely take her if you are a visual learner. She goes at a normal pace, has many practice handouts, easy attendance questions, no quizzes, amazing reviews for exams, and fun/helpful demos about the material. She is also very enthusiastic about teaching and really wants her students to succeed.
gives amazing lectures and is Gen Chem favorite prof for all. Answers problems through email and office. 6% grade is attendance called in class quiz but not graded just used for attendance. 14% grade online Chemistry homework, lot of work.4 Exams very hard but made by whole department. 1 Cumulative final, one exam dropped.
Most people I know prefer Dr. Taylor's lecturing style, being thorough and all, but I found her lectures to be tedious so I eventually stopped attending class. Perhaps not a class for those like myself that prefer a faster pace. If she knows your face, she will help your grade. Taylor is a wonderful person and will do what she can to help students.
I struggled in the class but Taylor really did a great job at explaining the material! Just make sure you don't procrastinate on ALEKS and study hard for the exams. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory but I would definitely recommend going to every class.
LOVE Dr. Taylor! Great, in depth lectures, lots of practice, and always willing to explain concepts again. She has lots of examples for visual learners and will go through problems as often as needed. Print out the power points and fill them in, otherwise it's tough to study them.
Dr Taylor is the absolute best but I could not give 5 stars because of the online homework program(ALEKS) the department uses for this class. It is easily the worst experience and most maddening you will ever do. It makes running on hot coals seem like a better option. I would rather swim the English Channel twice than have to ever do ALEKS again:(
Dr. Taylor is a professor you won't soon forget. Her lectures are so lively, you'll forget it's 9:00 AM and you'll wonder where the time went. She is great at breaking things down to make them understandable and manageable, and if you ever don't understand something in class, she is incredibly friendly in office hours. GET TO KNOW HER!
good professor the class however is pretty difficult. the exams are made by all the chem professors. no curve unless the course average is under a 70. Studying exams and back of the book problems are your best bet. for exams you need to know EVERY detail covered in class . Class is a very general outline its up to you to know all the exceptions.
best at explaining out of all the professors. wont give you a review for the exam prefers you study and come to her with questions. BEWARE EXAMS ARE MADE BY THE CHEM DEPARTMENT AND WHAT YOU COVER IN CLASS BARELY HITS THE SURFACE OF WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. if you havent taken AP chem you better be snorting practice exams, aleks, textbook questions.
Dr. Taylor is great at explaining complicated topics, and always interjects some fun stuff into her lectures. She is always willing to explain something again and will go the extra mile to make sure you understand. The class can be difficult, but diligent note taking and LOTS of practice problems helps a lot!
This class is designed to prep students for the MCAT and medical school. They make you memorize so much and the tests are extraordinarily difficult. However, Dr. Taylor is the nicest person on Earth. When I was struggling, she was there to help no questions asked. If you can take it somewhere else, highly suggest you do. If you can't, take Taylor.
She's straight to the point and by far the best Gen Chem professor. She really cares for her students and has a passion in Chemistry. Although she may not be as conceptual, she covers lots of problems. Her reviews are by far the best, she writes all the equations and practice problems you need to know for the test.
Dr. Taylor cared for every one of her students and made sure to point out the important topics that would be on the exams. She is very open to questions and her office hours are always busy. HW every week, but they do prepare you for the exam.
Dr. Taylor has great lectures and helpful office hours, she explains the material very well so nothing on the exam is a big surprise. There are 4 exams and several attendance checks throughout the semester, and ALEKS online homework is due once a week. Dr. Taylor is great, but for going to reviews I would recommend Huang.
Professor Taylor is a great professor! The class itself is a bit challenging however that is mainly due to the university and not the teachers, but, despite the level of difficulty Professor Taylor definitely goes out of her way to make the class/topics covered as easy and understandable as possible. Highly recommend taking her.
Dr. Taylor is the best gen chem professor and she is the absolute sweetest and most patient person, will help you with any questions and concerns that you have. Take advantage of her workshops and office hours as that's where you can get one on one time with her.
One of the best, if not the best gen chem professor! It's a shame she isn't teaching gen chem II. Every professor here is knowledgeable in the subject, however, she is one of the few that knows how to teach students and make it enjoyable at the same time. 50 minutes in her class felt like 20. Pay attention to class, do aleks/HW and you can get an A
Dr. Taylor is great. Explains things very well and is helpful if you attend her office hours-which I highly recommend. Now, while Dr. T is great, the chemistry program is not. Be sure to get help as soon as you can, and I wouldn't recommend taking many other tough classes. Also, ALEKS, the software, IS mandatory but doesn't help with exams. AT ALL.
Dr. Taylor is the best and you should take her, although it's not like she's the only professor worth taking. I got an A+ in the class by working through ALEKS (try to get ahead of you can! I started this towards the end and regret not starting sooner), going to SI (fun! chill!) and most importantly, taking PRACTICE TESTS :)
Biochem is just hard work there's no getting around it. But Prof Taylor definitely made it doable because she is easy to understand & tries to employ a variety of techniques (handouts, models, lecture). She really cares & tries to help out however she can.
Dr. Taylor is everything Ive ever imagined a chemistry professor to be. You can literally see the passion radiating out of her while teaching at 9 AM on a Monday morning. She knows exactly what students get confused on and prints handouts for the entire class! shes not even my professor and I attend her all her lectures! Dr. Taylor is the best!
Dr. Taylor is an amazing CHEM professor. She genuinely cares and truly enjoys teaching. She is very energetic which is refreshing during her 8am lectures. But what I like most is that she is relatable, she uses jokes and references to keep us engaged and help us understand concepts. One day she used my little ponies to explain thermodynamics.
The class isn't easy, you do have to work for your grade, but that's going to be the same no matter what Chem 1311 class you're in. Dr. Taylor is great at covering all the material for the exams, and she explains it in a pretty straightforward way. She provides a lot of resources. There's an exam every two weeks.
Great teacher!
Dr. Taylor's lectures are great. They're concise, but they are very informative, you won't have to read much of the textbook. Gen chem, in general, is a class you'll either understand naturally or have to work hard for, but Dr. Taylor is always there to help. In addition to lecture, her workshop was very beneficial, and I recommend it for help.
Great professor. Can definitely tell that she's experienced. Knows how to communicate and teach well. Lecture pace is also good. Tests are not too hard if you study. Also really helpful during office hours. I definitely recommend taking her class.
Dr. Taylor is an amazing professor who explains things very clearly and keeps up to date with material as class goes on. She is the best choice for Gen Chem I hands down!
Dr. Taylor is a professor who is willing to break down concepts into manageable content, even to the point where it becomes confusing. Taylor teaches in a manner that is very conceptual she does not do more than a couple of practice problems in lecture. If you want to truly learn chemistry, take Sibert because he is much more organized and concise.
Taylor is awesome. Be sure to attend her lectures as she explains everything really well and does great example problems. She's super friendly and makes her class very engaging. Just don't be disruptive and you'll be completely fine. Sit in the front and stay engaged in class, follow along with the problems and you'll get an Easy A.
I don't recommend you to take her for CHEM 3361. The most questions in exams were different from the practical exams. Some questions in exams were wrong. The average score for the 1st exam was around 69, so I think you can understand how hard the exam was. She didn't do curve distribution.
Biochemistry is a tough subject but she makes lectures easy to follow and enjoyable. She genuinely loves teaching and it shows in how she will take the time to make sure you understand something.
I remember going to her office hours before the Gen Chem 1 final. I had a bunch of questions prepared only to realize midway through that her office hour behavior is nothing like the face she wears in class. Discouraging, passively aggressive, and goes out of her way to make you feel dumb. Take her if you have to, but dont go to office hours!
Dr. Taylor is the best professor I've had so far. They are exteremely caring, nice, and enthusiastic (and funny). They genuinely want everyone to learn and are really good at making just that happen. The class is hard but the tests and homework are decided by the department so its the same for every class. They are amazing!! Take them!!
NATS 2333 is a pretty fun class to take with Dr. Taylor. It's not very technical, so discussion normally centers around problems/solutions and the big picture. She likes to take the class on side discussions and let us get creative with our projects. She was also kind with deadlines and intentionally designs the class to not be super stressful.
Dr. Taylor is really sweet especially from my experience online. However, she can become sidetracked and distracted by the chat and easily irritated due to annoying comments (not her fault though). Overall, a really caring and sweet professor and is willing to explain things piece by piece (not good with pressure though).
Dr. Taylor is one of my favorite Gen Chem professors. She explains concepts very concisely and clearly. She also has a generally considerate attitude, and her lectures are enjoyable.
She's really sweet and her lectures are engaging. Doesn't curve on exams tho which sucks cause theyre hard.
Dr. Taylor is a great Gen Chem professor. Her lectures are engaging and deeply informative. There may be hundreds of students in her class, but she genuinely cares for each of us. I reached out to Dr. Taylor about my struggling in class & she, without hesitation, agreed to talk one-on-one about new study strategies and a new game plan for passing.
This class was so much fun and I learned so much. It was really easy: weekly discussion boards, 4 essays throughout the semester, and 3 presentations. Dr. Taylor is a great person, funny, and she was really understanding with everything that happened this semester. Her lectures were very engaging and interesting.
Over 21 hours of work each week. Extremely lecture heavy with lectures form every chem professor. Talks about her cat/dog too much! Spends 30 minutes of lecture not talking about chem and doesn't explain anything. I begged for help and none was offered so I had to drop. Take Chem 1311 with Dr. Sra!!! or take it at Collin!
I worked on this class HOURS each day. tests were purposefully tricky and profs want you to fail. take at CC
Stephanie will not pass you even if you attend every office hour, review, tutoring session there is. again she is happy to fail you if you under perform , she does not round grades. If you fail, you fail. Honestly, wish I never took her. The exams are fill in the blank, no MC. The MC given have answer choices between a -f (no lie). DO NOT RECOMMEND
Chemistry at UTD is taught by all the professors at once. They all work together, which means your exam is created by five different people. It is a difficult class if you have never taken a chemistry course before (or don't have a strong background). If you've taken chemistry AP you will be fine. There are 5 exams and a comprehensive final.
This class sucks. I fully recommend taking this somewhere else...I'm kicking myself for not taking it at Collin. You have weekly ALEKS homework which is EXTENSIVE. All of the tests were online and combined 5 professors' worth of material. Please don't spend almost 2 grand on this worthless class. To give an idea, I got an A in Calc2 and 3....
There is a ton of homework that doesn't help with your learning because it is always way ahead/behind of the lectures. The lectures are basic while the tests are very hard. You are told to watch the pre-recorded lectures before the real lectures because the real lectures are unhelpful. Stick to the textbook and random YouTube videos instead.
Gen chem at UTD is a mess. You will have five midterms and a final, which means there are exams every other week. Taylor will teach you stuff for the exam the day before the exam. Unless you took AP Chem in high school and did well, you should pass on Taylor. Her lectures are basic while the tests are very complicated. Study the textbook instead.
ALEKS is a horrible homework system that the gen chem professors use, despite them claiming that they hate it too. There is so much homework over topics that the professor never goes over. Taylor also gives very basic lectures and wastes time going on tangents. You'll learn more about her than chemistry. This class is absolutely driving me insane.
Dr. Taylor's lectures are fairly good, although she can get a little distracted sometimes. Her office hours are helpful. The class itself however is not great. ALEKS sucks, and there's a lot of it. Tests in particular are very hard, and the testing system leaves something to be desired. If you have a strong chem background, you'll be ok.
Dr. Taylor is a very kind and accessible professor. However, I would NOT recommend her for gen chem. Her lectures are too basic and don't cover nearly half the material needed for the exams. She goes off on many tangents, which means most of the material isn't covered in class. The pre-recorded content was more helpful than attending class.
Dr. Taylor is easy to reach out to with a decent personality. However, if you actually want to learn and understand the content that will be on the exams, she is definitely not a good professor. Exams are tough, but what made them even more difficult was that Taylor's lectures were too vague. Prerecorded helped and ALECKS was stressful. Take at CC!
Your professor doesn't matter much for 1311, just watch the videos all the professors post to eLearning and do the homework problems. Professor Taylor took weeks to respond to emails and went on too many tangents during lectures, hardly covering material during more than half of them. Would recommend taking another professor and self-studying
She's a decent professor and is easygoing, however she goes off on too many tangents during lectures which ended up with me hardly attending them as they were not beneficial. Luckily, she's not picky about attendance. Gen Chem at UTD is NOT beginner-friendly and the weekly homeworks are unbearable. Regretting not taking it at community college.
Taylor was honestly a gem. She was one of those professors that are truly interested in teaching their subject and genuinely wants everyone to pass (despite the insane difficulty of this class). Choose her if you want simple explanations that don't make you fall asleep halfway through the class. Took her Spring 2021 semester (Coronamester)
Literally one of the best professors I have had in college so far. She is super engaging and responsive during lecture. There are literally too many positives to write here. The only thing I would be weary of is making sure you understand the homework very well and take note of the specifics that she points out in lecture.
Dr. Taylor spent time during lectures going off tangents and not spending time teaching. When she did teach, the test material was usually taught a day before the day of the exam. Furthermore, the exams were not fully written by her, so when all five professors teach at different speeds students are not prepared for all the questions on the test.
This class was especially difficult for me because I haven't taken any chem classes before. Only students with strong chem backgrounds succeed in class. Dr. Taylor's lectures cover very easy material while the tests are very difficult. If you want to have a good grade and learn, take gen chem at CC.
Going to be honest here. Gen chem 1 is an extremely easy course, material wise, and the professors at utd don't make it any more difficult. Dr. Taylor is approachable, accessible outside of class, and has decent lectures as well. The powerpoints have everything you need to know to do well. Anyone who says this is a hard course is lying to you.
Took this class for a core credit and I really liked Professor Taylor! She understood that most were there for the credit but instead of having it be useless it was instead light but with useful, interesting information. Deadlines were flexible and she was fun and honest.
Doctor Taylor is truly one of the best professors you could have. The class was structured in such a way that it was more about group discussions and group presentations. I typically can be quiet while in class, but with her, I felt comfortable adding my opinion to the discussion. The assignments in her class are simple and the class is an easy A.
A very easy class. Doesn't expect the student to care much about the subject, literally describes the class as a science class for people uninterested in science. With that being said, four writing assignments and a few projects overall. Easy grade.
Dr. Taylor is not a bad professor, but the gen chem team single-handedly destroyed my chem experience here at UTD. terribly unfair tests. Dr. Taylor is often behind on content, but it really doesn't matter which professor you take as the tests are used by all of them, and are extremely unfair. glad to be done.
Taylor is a really good gen chem professor. She's very personable if you attend her office hours and her lectures are clear and concise.
Dr. Taylor was a great professor whose lectures were clear, but her office hours were better. She really does help you as much as possible and she is so understanding of whatever you are struggling with. While attendance wasn't mandatory, I definitely recommend going!!
Dr. Taylor is a very nice and kind professor, but the class is difficult. If you did not do well in chemistry in high school, you will struggle. The exams are extremely tough, even if you took good notes. The homework is online (on ALEKS) and gets harder as the class ends. Overall, Dr. Taylor is better than the other Chem professors, but very hard.
The class itself was hard; there won't be much differences w any of professors. It's 90% your effort. She oftentimes over-emphasise aspects which weren't on exams but lightly touch topics that were on exams. Would give false hints abt exams which caused me to do anticipate wrong things. But she replies fast & is willing to meet quite a bit.
Gen chem 1 has a good amount of content, but is cram-able (beware gen chem 2 is not the same). Use recorded lectures, PLTL packets, and practice questions to study for tests. Make sure to complete Aleks weekly but know that those practice questions do not help much for tests.
Whatever professor you end up taking, this course is challenging. Make sure to begin studying at least a week before exams. I relied more on recorded content than lectures, but be sure to attend the lecture the day before exams. Also, I did not find PLTL to be as helpful for gen chem 2. There is a bit of curving on exams and final letter grade.
Goes on tangents a lot, we were always behind before tests and never really felt prepared. Not an awful professor but I recommend Huang over her if you have the option.
Doesn't matter who you take for gen chem 2 matters how you study. Watch prerecorded lectures before going to class, do end-of-chapter questions, and do all of the past exams for the unit being tested. Taylor is a good profesor and the class is doable just pace yourself and study ahead of time. 5 tests and final replaces lowest grade. Curves a bit.
This course is math heavy so do many practice problems and join PLTL!
If you pay attention to her, you will definitely do good. Among other things like studying and whatnot.
Her lectures were so clear and she would individually address people's questions. Made chem 10 times easier. Takes attendance once a week, but it's advisable to go to every lecture
Even though this chem course is difficult for many, just pay attention and take advantage of every opportunity you get, so this course wouldn't be so much of a struggle. Attendance is mandatory only on Fridays. Caring, kind, and prepares well for tests. Easily accessible outside of class. Totally recommend her!
Dr Taylor is very nice and the environment of the class is very chill. The projects are few and far between and there are a couple of easy discussion boards. Overall a really interesting class and an easy one at that.
Dr. Taylor is sweet and down to Earth. She is always willing to answer any questions. Workshops are on Fridays where attendance is mandatory but strongly suggest attending every single lecture if you want to get a good grade. Attend SI reviews because practice outside of class is important. A suggestion is to start studying for tests a week before.
Dr. Taylor is an amazing Chem professor! I've taken Chem before in high school, so I remembered a lot of the material, however, I found nothing wrong with her teaching. She had energy, a great personality, and is easy to approach/talk to. She does go on tangents, but I never found that an issue, since she still manages to teach everything on time.
The homework for this class is literally insane. 1. it costs about $80 just for access to the hw program without the textbook included. And 2. it takes HOURS and there's hw due every Thursday and every Monday. Dr Taylor is awesome but lectures are near incoherent. Doesn't help that it's impossible to study for the class. Good person, bad professor.
I actually really liked Dr. Taylor's lectures and the way she explained things. Exams are the same for every chem class and could be marked by any prof so that doesn't really matter when picking a chem prof but she made lectures interesting.
One of the most caring professors I'll ever probably have. I had personal stuff come up and she was kind enough to accommodate me in this class (though I can't say how accommodating she is for her gen chem classes). The course was pretty easy and almost everything was just completion based as long as you follow the rubric. Very fun class.
Dr. Taylor was a great professor! She gave amazing lectures and was always available to help you out during her office hours. However, this class is difficult so I suggest you to study and get all the help you might need and you will be fine.
Super sweet teacher. So long as you complete the work she assigns you're basically guaranteed to do well.
Professor Taylor is good at going at a slower pace to explain concepts, but more often than not she will get behind on lecture material and teach concepts literally a day before the test. She also gets frustrated sometimes if students ask too many questions. I would try to take Huang for Gen Chem II if possible.
Attendance only mandatory on fridays
Dr. Taylor is by far the best professor at UTD. She is amazing for such a tough course, she always provides extensive feedback too which is really helpful. The class itself it really difficult which is why some people may find her teaching confusing or too fast paced. Although the class is fast paced, she will slow down for you in office hours
Overall, she is a great teacher who would answer any questions you have in class. Slides are provided and the best part is any documents or notes she went over, even the ones she hand-written, would be accessible. The only setback is that sometimes she falls behind teaching and would crap information last minute, maybe even one day before exams
Exceptionally kind and sweet. Dr. Taylor is very passionate about the course content, and taught me a lot about the environment. Class is super laid back and she is very accommodating of late work. She cares about her students and answering questions. Highly recommend this class to complete a CV and science credit, especially for non-STEM majors.
Loved taking this class with Dr. Taylor. She is super nice and lenient with grading. If you have any questions or are curious about anything even remotely tangent to the class topic, she will gladly discuss it with you. Paper and project topics are always interesting, and alot of the times you can choose the topic yourself.
Dr. Taylor was overall a good prof! She was pretty easily accesible outside of class and was generally helpful with everything. Sometimes her lecture slides don't make that much sense if you are not actually present in class when she is lecturing but otherwise she is timely and very approachable with questions!
Her class was simple, tons of resources to prepare for the tests, attendance is mandatory once a week since it's part of your grade. She's a fun lecturer, but she takes her job seriously and makes sure everyone is caught up to speed. Very nice!
There are 2 homework assignments per week (must pay for ALEKS). Slides are somewhat vague, but she explains it thoroughly in class. Likes to use the doc cam and write things out. Likes to use real world examples. Attendance only mandatory on Friday, where she will do an ungraded workshop (worksheet). Textbook not mandatory (comes with ALEKS).
From what I've heard, she's one of the better Gen Chem professors. Course is hard, but she makes it fun. Attendance is only mandatory on Friday lectures (MWF course). Slides alone don't make sense but she explains them really well in class so it'll be fine if you go to class and pay attention.
taylor is good if you're new to taking high-level chemistry; otherwise, i would stay clear of her. she teaches content in a very basic manner, making her lectures quite uninteresting. also, her slides are not good compared to other professors (like huang's). participation is only mandatory on fridays, which is the only time i go.
Great professor. To do well on the exams, do a lot of practice questions. From what I remember, the online suggested textbook questions that the professor provides really helped me when studying. Practice exams are also helpful too. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask her - she's very kind! SI Sessions were also good too for more practice.
I liked Dr. Taylor, however she tends to ramble which makes us late in learning the material. Also, if you're not ready for lowkey passive agressive-ness then don't take her.
Dr. Taylor's teaching style works very well for me. I found it very helpful when she would lead the class through a practice problem. We would also do a worksheet every Friday, partially as a class and partially on our own. I found her lectures to be engaging and interesting.
I am sorry to anyone in the UTeach Science Program that has to take this class. Taylor is a good chemistry teacher, but was terrible for NATS 4390 (NATS 4390 was not an option above)
She is good at teaching and makes concepts clear and easy to understand. When I took the course she let you schedule private MS Teams meetings with her to ask questions before the exam too which was great.
Unfortunately, teachers like Taylor hold prominent positions and seem to lack empathy. Personality differences pose a challenge when your professor sends sarcastic and wounding remarks. I would advocate to take another professor such as Dr Dieckman.
She is a great lecture, but doesn't have a lot of patience for dumb questions so pay attention well.
Her lectures are usually fine but sometimes she can go on tangents. Otherwise she explains everything pretty well. Mandatory attendance is on Fridays but sometimes she'll put the attendance credit online. She's great in office hours as well. Her exam reviews are based on questions from the MS teams chat (not structured).
Professor Taylor is one of the best chem 1311 teachers as you can tell she really cares. She's extremely passionate and encourages her students to ask questions. Additionally, she goes through the course content thoroughly (sometimes, we got behind because of how detailed she got, however, she always made sure we knew everything before the exams).
Do not take Taylor please be smart. If I had to retake the class I would do it with Huang. He is the best teacher without a doubt. Taylor is always behind in lectures and does everything except teach chemistry. She loves to talk on and on and get off track. It's embarrassing how bad she is. Don't be fooled by other reviews on here, TAKE HUANG.
Dr. Taylor's class can be challenging, but she makes it engaging. Definitely attend lectures - her explanations are key, and study tools like practice problems and SI sessions are very helpful. I found unstuck ai's AI-powered prep useful too. Overall, a rewarding class if you put in the work.
honestly very easy and informational honors class! there were a few assignments + discussion boards weekly but other than that, this class didn't have too much of a workload. taylor is an amazing teacher as well, i highly recommend. attendance is mandatory but she lets you use absences
Probably the most free honors class you can take with an amazing professor. She is very caring and is very relatable with the students. There are no exams with 3 projects, which are also free grades if you put in a little effort. There's a weekly discussion post and attendance is mandatory. Recommend this class for honors over any other class.
Honestly, she is mid. I would go with Dr. D
Dr.Taylor knows what she is talking about! She understands everything and explains it in a way that is easy to understand. If you are trying to pick a professor for Chem 1/2 I would go w Taylor for gen chem 1 and Dieckmann for gen chem 2. Both are pretty equal in the way they teach and go on random side stories
Probably the best Gen Chem 2 professor in the department. She lets you know in advance when attendance will be taken in person, and otherwise it is online. She also posts really good workshops, and even if you are not in her class ask around to get them (Her workshops are structured like the exam questions). Lectures are a bit boring however.
She can come off a little strong sometimes, and she also tends to ramble during lectures. However, she's definitely not a bad professor and she explains concepts well. She also has my favorite notes out of all the professors for Gen Chem 2 this semester. However, be prepared to be learning new content the day BEFORE the exam. Oherwise she's good!
Really liked Dr. Taylor, she makes her lectures in a way that you can understand it, for me, I used her office hours to talk about mistakes on exams or anything confusing and she does a great job on clarifying things. She posts practice exams and workshops which really helped me. Great professor! 100% recommend taking her!!
Dr. Taylor was awesome! Lectures were good, and there were makeup attendance assignments.
Her lectures make content easy to understand but she goes off on tangents. My main qualm is that she writes on a long OneNote document that makes sense during lectures but becomes very messy/confusing and a pain to scroll through when reviewing for exams. You must pay for a useless textbook. She provides lots of good study resources/practice exams!
Really nice and approachable. But grades are a bit slow sometimes because she manages all the chem classes. Overall really worth taking
Not bad but there are better professors. I find that people who do well in her class usually have background knowledge from dual credit/AP chem. If the last time u took chem was in 10th grade, her lectures take some getting used to. Goes on random tangents and her thoughts are all over the place so make sure you don't zone out. SIT IN THE FRONT!!!
Can sometimes go off tangent but otherwise a really good professor with detailed notes. Very kind and accessible
