Honestly, this teacher is awful. She's a nice woman and I like her as a person but she is a terrible teacher. I worked so hard in this class just to get a terrible grade and mess up my major. I would definitely not recommend this teacher.
Followed the powerpoint word for word, puts them up on blackboard before class. Most people printed out the slides before classes, I found it was much easier to take notes prior to class, and add extra notes that way. Tests are 50 multiple choice questions, and the final wasn't cumulative.
All she does is read off of the powerpoint, and the class is sooo boring.
No matter how hard you try, you really shouldnt be dissapointed with not recieving anything other than an A. The lectures are extremely boring and each powerpoint has a crazy number of slides which makes it a lot of studying for the tests to do well. Not my top pick!
Class are very long power points. Tests are unpredictable and studying doesn't help. The only grades are tests and one paper. The paper is not graded on content. Don't stress out about what you write, just make sure that the margins are the right size, you have a FULL 7 pages and bibliography is correct.
VERY HARD TEACHER!! Do not take her! Her tests are very hard and unpredictable.
I had her for 101 and 102. She is a nice woman, but a horrible teacher. She follows a bell curve so her goal is for most of the students to get C's and very few to get A's. She reads from the PowerPoint but then takes questions from the textbook. Overall it was a harder class than it needed to be. You'll be overwhelmed with information that you won't be tested on and then the actual test will be based off items never or barely mentioned. She is a very sweet woman, as I said, but a bad teacher.
Don't take this class unless you have a strong background in bio. She reads of the powerpoints which are boring at best and doesn't give any other dynamic to the class, it is hard to stay awake. Like I said, the tests are doable if you have a background but I wouldn't recommend her.
Very nice woman, not a great teacher. Reads powerpoints word for word, class tends to be a struggle to stay awake. Notes are just you printing powerpoint before class and highlighting key points during class. One research paper and 4 exams that are 50 question multiple choice. Final is 50 question non-cumulative multiple choice.
Lectures consist of her reading directly from a powerpoint. You cover about 35 powerpoint slides in a 50 minute class. Exams are 50 multiple choice questions. The research paper is difficult but they only thing she focuses on is if your sources and the layout. Take her if you are good at memorizing 3-4 chapters of information for 1 exam.
By far the worst professor here at school. Very boring teacher, reads directly from slides in monotone. Avoid at all costs!
Professor Troiano is a very nice professor. Each biology teacher has their pros and cons, but once you learn a study method for Troiano's class, you will be fine. There is a research paper that helps a lot with grades if you are struggling in the class. Reads from the power points, but very helpful if you ask for help. I recommend taking her!
Lab exams were fairly easy and straightforward, overall a fairly easy grader
Troiano is an awesome professor. She gives the regulated exams like every other bio professor and can be a bit boring in lecture but overall she is great! She is very helpful, and always there to answer questions. Her Powerpionts cover all the material that is on the exams! Take her!
Great teacher, great person. Cares about her students & their success. I had her both semesters freshman year. If you ask for 1 on 1 time or extra help she will give it, responds to emails asap. Makes chapter slides 40 slides instead of 140 like my last professor (retook the class) Attendance is mandatory, not as tough as she claims!
Nice lady, terrible teacher. Would try and avoid at all costs, I was lucky to have passed.
It is mostly reading power points that she gives to you prior. If you study on your own, the tests aren't that difficult. She's really nice as well. Put in the effort and you'll do fine.
Lectures can get boring, but if you pay attention, you will do well. I had a terrible teacher in high school, so I barely knew any of the information before the class. She makes the information very clear.
She is very clear with lectures and gives powerpoints to read along with. It is best to print out the slides before class and take notes as she speaks because she does not allow laptops in class. Her tests are very fair so if you know the material you will do well!
She reads off the powerpoints so the tests are only on what is in the powerpoint. Attendance is mandatory. One writing assignment but she tells you what chapter it is on.
Good clear lectures. Goes really in depth about the topics without sounding boring. If you never go to class your not going to pass. Print out the slides and take good notes in lecture and you will do just fine.
Troiano is underrated. Her tests are straight forward and her lectures are, well, lectures. You're given on the test what the notes on the slides were and nothing more than that. Recommended for biology 101 and 102 if you cannot get Carelton.
She wants to get out of the classroom too so lectures are never too long. Tests are crazy hard but arent the easiest either. Lectures are pretty boring but because it is bio there is not much you can do about that. If you dont want to go to class have a friend sign you in on the attendance sheet.
Professor Troiano's lectures are very straight-forward and she never keeps you the full time. There were a couple of online quizzes and there were four exams, they were all taken from her powerpoint and she makes it so you can't fail. She's great and I would definitely take her again.
She was great. So nice and eager to help. Review sessions are great. If you fall into a routine and try hard, everything will go well.
Lectures where boring. i never payed attention. You can take notes but her power point have everything you would need to know. information is clear so just print those and study them before the test and you will do great. I studied the night before with every test and my lowest grade was a 82 including the final. i wasn't a biology expert either.
Really good lectures, sometimes long and boring but she almost always lets you leave early. You definitely need to read the chapters and pay attention in class, otherwise you wont do well but otherwise easy class
Good teacher, would definitely take again. I had an 8 am with her and she made it very enjoyable. We got out early almost every class and I would say her tests aren't to difficult. She's really nice and was always wiling to help and clarify any information.
This class was extremely boring. All she did was read off her powerpoints, which were often quite lengthy. She moved very quickly. The only good thing is that she lets you out early often. I would look for a different professor if you actually want to learn something.
She explains information clearly and is available outside of class. She responds to emails quickly.
Great person, not so great professor. Reads directly from her powerpoints which makes class very difficult to sit through. Also, online quizzes are near impossible and do not include information gone over class. If Bio is not your strong point, do not take!!
She is a good teacher and super nice! She gives 1-2 online quizzes each week after you finish a chapter. She does move fast through chapter in lecture though! Some of her test are hard but as long as you study you will do fine!
All of her classes are lectures but the tests are based directly on her PowerPoints. You have an online quiz due after every chapter and she drops the two lowest quiz grades
her notes are vague read textbook
Every day lecture. Moves through powerpoints fairly quickly, especially towards the end of the semester. Tests based off powerpoints alone. Always available and willing to help look over previous tests or any questions before/after class/during office hours. Very sweet. Mandatory MasteringBiology quizzes for each chapter, but drops lowest 2 quizzes
This Professor is by far the best Biology teacher I have had at Quinnipiac so far. She is very knowledgeable about the subject she teaches. Her lectures are very fast paced but she lets you out early almost every time. If you put in time outside of class to study you will do fine in her class. She is always available for help during office hours.
Took for Bio 101 & 102. Received A- in both but so worth it. Actually know the material & understand it all. Always available outside of class to review tests and answers questions. Amazing lectures. Usually let out early. Early classes. Information for tests just from PowerPoint. Online quizzes difficult but answers usually online. Really caring.
Took for bio 101 and 102. Great professor... lectures can get boring as she reads right off the powerpoint. Test are pretty easy if you study the powerpoint. Online quizzes are hard but use google and it will be fine. Lets class out early almost every time. Never opened the book and still did well
Do not take this professor if you do not need to. I took her in an 8am class because it was the only course open, and it was very hard to pay attention. The entire class is her reading directly from the PPT. She also likes to put questions on the exams that are meant to trick you.
She loves to lecture right off of the PPT. She adds no extra explanation other than what she has on the presentation and if you do not take notes then you will not do well on the test. The test have more information than what she lectures.
I had her for BIO 101 at 8 in the morning and I somehow managed to do well. If you study the powerpoints, you will do very well on the tests. Each class is a lecture & you have to take notes, but it's not terrible. And we usually got out early after every class which was nice!! She's very sweet and willing to put in the work to help if you are!
If you don't mind a professor who reads right off the powerpoint during the lectures, then she would be a good choice. She is kind and definitely means well, her class just gets a little boring (especially if you're like me and had it at 8am!) Overall a fine professor.
She reads right from the powerpoint. When you study right from the powerpoint most of the questions that are on the test weren't on the powerpoint.
Professor Troiano was great! Her lectures can get a little boring but as long as you study and pay attention in class, it is an easy A. She is also super kind and understanding so if you're having a problem, just talk to her. I would definitely recommend taking her if you can !
This teacher was never available after class. The one time she did meet with me she was condescending and not helpful at all. Her lectures were very fast pace and she was not great at explaining herself. Not sure if all the Bio 101 classes use online quizzes but they were the most difficult part of the class... way harder than the tests.
She would print out her slideshow and put the slides around the room for the class to copy down instead of teach the content to us. She also drops a super difficult project on you, gives you 3 packets that are suppose to tell you how to do it but the packets will contradict each other, and doesn't walk you through how to do it. Very unhelpful.
I would not recommend her. The lectures consist of her reading directly from PowerPoints word for word, no actual teaching was done. To pass the class you will have to study on your own as you'll get little to no understanding from her classes. She is also quite unapproachable.
A very good professor. Teaches straight from powerpoint but explains things well and is a caring professor. If you study the powerpoints, you'll pass. She makes a difficult class a bit better which is a huge thing for me. Only allowed two skips and then it starts to affect your grade.
I love professor Troiano. She is so nice and down to earth which makes it easy to ask her any questions you may have. BIO101 is a hard class no matter the teacher, but if you study right off her powerpoints you will do fine. The key to this class is to study, study and study.
She's really understanding and will help you whenever you have a problem. She emails you back as soon as she can. She is such a nice teacher and lets you look over old test as long as you email her. The key to this class is studying!
Very easy class. She reads right from the powerpoint and sometimes adds in different points. If you are studying for the test, you will have to understand a lot in order to understand the questions she asks. Overall it was an easy course.
She is so nice and sweet. She tries to make sure everyone does well. You have to show up or else your grade will tank. She reads right from the power point but if you study by answering and knowing the outlined questions in the beginning you will do well on the tests. You do need to study though.
Troiano was a fair professor. She lectures for the entire class. You usually get out early, which can sometimes be a bad thing, as she should have used the time to teach more. Attendance is mandatory (sign in sheet every class). As long as you study her powerpoint, you will do fine on the exams. Go to peer fellow review sessions to help.
I had her for a 9 am and would basically fall asleep every class without taking notes because she would leave the lights off. I would take notes out of the textbook to do the online quizzes and then do a quick review the night before the test and got As on all of them. Her lectures aren't very exciting but her tests are easy, so it is worth it.
Lectures the entire class off of powerpoints. If you don't reread the slides at home, you won't pass her exams. If science is not your strong suit, get ready for her class. You need to study after every class to remember exactly what she lectured about. If you don't like putting in effort take another professor.
hardest class i took all year! super kind professor, but she needs to work on her system because almost everyone has gotten used to failing every exam. her pop quizzes are unnecessary as there is usually too much material to study for one day, and we do not have direct access to the slides at home. her class made me realize bio is not for me
Tests are way too frequent and fast paced
Lectures very quickly straight off of the powerpoint. Will let every class out at least 15 minutes early and then will have you watch recorded lectures outside of class because she "doesn't have time to teach everything." The tests were not too difficult if you study the slides. Does not allow computers in class, you have to print slides out.
This professor was really nice and the class was pretty easy if you took good notes and studied a bit.
average choice-not bad, but not great. only uses pwrpoints and lectures the whole class, but both are pretty good(gets boring sometimes). can't use laptops in class, so print them out. If you don't take notes you probably won't do well. Her tests were a bit harder than expected, so make sure you study. overall, she's nice and got through bio well
Professor Troiano was a great teacher! Her class was enjoyable and she did activities in class instead of just lecturing. Her tests were just like the powerpoints. Copy notes down before class. Halfway through we switched to online classes and it wasn't bad but you had to learn most of the material on your own. Overall she is a great professor.
I took Professor Troiano for my Biology requirement and felt as if the class was fine. It was slightly frustrating sometimes just because science is not my academic strength, but overall a good class. Professor Troiano doesn't just gift it to you, she makes you work for it, but at the same time it isn't too hard. It's a nice happy medium.
Professor Troiano was a nice person, but I would never take her class again. BIO102 is difficult to begin with, but students are typically expected to watch recorded lectures outside of class because she ends class early often for no reason. Usually, I'd be thankful but not when there is more material to cover. She only reads off powerpoints.
Professor Troiano genuinely cares about the students and the material. 90% of the assignments are group assignments and easy to navigate through. The material is interesting and taught through PowerPoints made available outside of class. She provides helpful review sheets for the tests. I definitely recommend taking professor Troiano.
Nice lady, horrible professor. Biology is never easy but Troiano did not help at all. She ended class early all the time which sounds nice but she never finished the material. She read straight of slides that she did not even make so they did not correspond to the test. When asked to elaborate she said she had no time and proceeded to end early
Bio 106 is a good class to take if you're a non-science major but Prof. Troiano is honestly a horrible professor. The lectures are awful - she reads from the PowerPoints the entire class period. Half the time she sounds bored herself. If you can take it 100% online DO IT because all the exam answers are on quizlet otherwise AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE
She is a really nice and caring professor. Her lectures are a bit long, but she gives you the PowerPoint, so it's easier to follow. Most of the work is in groups, which is much easier and more fun to understand. She makes sure that the class is adapted to non-science majors. There were only three pretty short exams, 30 minutes max. Easy A
Professor Troiano will lecture all class long. Although it may be boring, she does go more in depth with the slides which is good. She gives lots of quizzes as homework so you have to stay on top of them or else your grade will plummet. Studying is definitely needed for the tests- they aren't extremely hard but you gotta do some work to get A.
There are a lot of opportunities that Professor Troiano gives you to do well on exams like reviews and book work, but you will really have to study and work hard to get a good grade in her class. Lecture heavy.
I struggled with biology but she is a really sweet professor. You have a lot of pre/post quizzes you need to stay on top of. She tells you exactly what to expect from the exam and she let my class use lockdown browser instead of taking the test in class.
Professor Troiano is reliable and clearly lays out her expectations for the class. The class is not easy but she is by far one of the best professors that teach Bio101. Her test questions are clear and easy to answer as long as you study and put in the work for her class. She gives a lot of study resources for her exams.
Professor Troiano is very big on attendance. If you miss a certain amount of classes, she will deduct points from your final grade. But if you show up, pay attention, turn in assignments on time, and study, this class is not as tough as everyone makes it out to be. Professor Troiano is good about answering emails and questions!
She's one of the better professors from what I hear. Her class is very lecture heavy. Everything you need to study is on the slides she presents in class. I suggest going to peer catalyst reviews and practicing Pearson questions. Its a hard class and there's a lot to learn but if you study in advance and get help when needed you will do well.
If you pay attention in lecture, take notes and study, you will do well. Her lectures can be boring but she tells you everything you need to know for the tests. Her power points will be extremely helpful when studying. If its not in the power point, its not on the test. Super nice and understanding
The class is hard but so is every bio101 class. She is very lecture heavy and does not offer worksheets or anything to help learn the material, it is just reading and memorizing the powerpoints and then trying to figure out how to apply that stuff on the exam. If you spend all your free time studying, you should pass.
She just talks at you during class and teaches off her slides, there are no additional worksheets she gives out to help students learn, just online practice quizzes and exams. She weighs attendance heavily as well so beware.
If you want to pass her class, you need to know her power points word for word. The Mastering Biology quizzes that are due each week help you prepare for the exams. Her class is boring because she just lectures the whole time. She is a very nice person and will help you out with group projects. If you skip class, you might be fine.
Lecture heavy but her tests are straight from the powerpoint and aren't meant to trick you. She's really nice and approachable if you have a question.
great person, a bad professor, you could study your ass off and still fail so badly. Bio101 is hard enough and her exams are nearly impossible. Shes gives a good amount of other work but tests are a big part of your grade.
This course is very lecture heavy, but thats how BIO101 is in general. Only lets you take notes by hand, no computers allowed. Even so, Prof. Troiano really cares about her students and is super accommodating. If you study her powerpoints, you should do well on all her tests. Only HW is weekly videos and online chapter quizzes w/ retakes available.
Very lecture heavy and not many other worksheets to help. No computers allowed during lecture and she moves really fast I can barley keep with the notes. If you can I would print the slides beforehand, but that just seemed like a lot of extra work for me..
dont take her.
Although she is very nice, lectures are so boring. She just reads off the slides as she sits at the front of the room. She is clear on assignment dates. Power-points are not like the tests and her tests are extremely difficult. Don't take this professor if you can.
Quinnipiac doesn't really have any good bio professors but troiano is the closest you'll get. She takes attendance everyday and is strict if you go over the unexcused absence limit. The lectures themselves aren't helpful but her review powerpoint slides are very helpful. Be ready to study alot cuz its a hard class with whoever u take it with.
I took Troiano for two semesters and she's honestly just average. Her class is very lecture heavy but you won't feel engaged into the material as all she does is read from the slides. Her exams used to be pretty easy, but that changed and she won't curve unlike some of the other biology professors. She can be slow to answer emails.
Pretty easy class for non health science majors. 10 question quizzes every monday on the previous week's lectures that you get 2 tries on and are pretty easy if you just pay attention and take good notes. A few group projects thorughout the sem but nothing too hard. Weekly assignments that range from perusall videos to worksheets. I loved her!!!
As a non-health science major, she made this class easy and accessible. The class is very lecture heavy and there are quizzes every week but nothing to stress as long as you have re-read the material. The group projects are pretty easy going and the overall vibe of the class is very chill. She as a person is very caring and easy to talk to.
Worst professor i've ever had in my life. Her tests are so hard and nothing you study is on the tests. She was smirking at students while some were crying in class taking her exam. So much work every week you don't even have time to study for the exams. Will flame you for missing class. Doesn't care about her students and failing them.
She is very accommodating and accessible outside of class. However, on the first day, she made fun of teachers who sat and read off a slideshow and every day she stood and read off the slideshow. Sometimes the content of the tests is not reviewed or mentioned in class. She makes the content more confusing than it needs to be.
Gives so much work to the point where it is almost unmanageable. She was the only professor for BIO104 that gives an abundance of work. Tests are harder than the material learned and is barely anything that you learned. Do not recommend taking her unless you have 24 hour free time to do her work and still find time to study for her tests.
Took BIO104 over the summer and it was a lot of work because it's a summer class, but honestly prof. Troiano seems pretty understanding and wants her students to succeed and her lectures were clear and to the point.
If you have about 5 hours of free time every day and want to spend it on BIO homework which is basically just busy work, take her. Attendance is mandatory. She reads off slides entire class, goes way too fast. Would not take again if you paid me. Exams are much harder than the material learned in lecture.
Difficult class, difficult professor. 10/10 do NOT reccommend.
She isn't the worst teacher but also isn't the best. She reads off the slides a lot and gives out a good amount of homework. The timeline for the topics she teachers are very clear and her style of doing group projects is great. She's a nice lady. Test are challenging but if you study off the slides they're manageable.
Pretty easy class. Prof Troiano shares her Powerpoints and walks you through them. Take good notes and you should be fine. Marks attendance every day. Group projects are not hard. Lots of questions from the chapter quizzes end up on the unit tests -- study them. Unit tests themselves are not too hard. Will be taking again next semester
Professor Troiano gives a lot of work to do but it works out in the end because it boosts your grade. She doesn't respond to email quickly but it helps when you meet with her. She just lectures and usually lets class out early.
Professor Troiano is a caring lady who wants you to do well in class. She reads off powerpoint slides (which you are given in advance), and will add a few notes in. Some exams are more difficult (Exam 2), but the rest are basic class material. However you must study to do well. Group projects are easy and a grade booster.
Bio 101 with Troiano is tough, but using unstuck study alongside the textbook and class materials can really help with test prep. Her exams are challenging, but staying engaged in the lectures makes a difference.
Very nice lady. However, very lecture heavy and she just read off the PowerPoints. The tests were hard and the study guides wouldn't really help. Definitely wants you to do well though. I don't know if I would take her again.
Professor Troiano is an okay teacher. We have four exams and a cumulative final. All quizzes online are open notes, and homework/projects are automatic A's. The tests are always from everything she went over on the slideshows in class, it's very lecture-oriented, and she just reads off of the slides. I would take her again, definitely study a lot!
She's nice. Lectures off powerpoints all class, but they're good material to study from. Lots of class participation, attendance, and homeworks to boost your grade. Various group projects. Exams are not that hard if you study. Very accessible through email. I took her for 101 also and that went just as well.
omg love 100000% recommend. super nice grading and such laid back classes. all the labs are in groups and shes so willing to help. reminds me of hs teachers j very chill overall love her
I had this professor for Bio 101 and Bio 102, and I really liked having her as my professor. She mainly lectures from the 60-slide PowerPoint and follows the university curriculum for the course. The tests are fair, but if you want to do well, you have to study. Group projects are a good grade booster. She is also very responsive with emails.
She definitely could have been so much better in aspects of knowing what's expected of us come exam day, she was very unclear and left no direction whatsoever for exams. She didn't care at all, it showed much in her appearance to lecture every MWF as well. She mainly talks about her personal life as well during office hours. Good luck Webarelylived
This class was ok. Not impossible but not easy. Tests are hard, but you have a lot of other assignments to make up for it.Ends class early but gives outside lectures because there "wasn't enough time," which was annoying. Doesn't really teach and just reda sof the slides but if you study a lot for the tests you should be ok.
Really good professor, cares about students, but lectures the entire class. She really just repeats the same things that are on the slides but she does normally let class out early. She isn't the best at answering emails but she will always meet with students.
Class is hard but doable. It needs to be your priority to succeed. Professor Troiano means well, but she is not the best professor. She cares more about herself than her students. She would often end class 30 minutes early, but expected us to know everything on the slides. She reads off slides, doesn't actually teach. Her class is just okay.
Very lecture-heavy. She moves very fast through chapters so taking notes is tough but she is very nice and cares about answering your questions and helping your understadning
Boring lectures; Most of the information you have to learn on your own. She is a horrible lecture teacher. Just reads power point slides so you mine as well learn it on your own. You can have 2 skips unexcused but you don't want to do it because if you miss class you are screwed and behind on information.
Don't take this class if you want to be taught. She reads off slides the entire class and honestly often seems unsure of the material. You'll have to teach yourself. Homework barely affects your grade if you did bad on the tests, and emails take a while to get responses. She gets annoyed by questions and told me to withdraw when I asked for help.
Prof Troiano is a great professor! She lectures the entire class and it can be a bit boring but the unit tests are super easy as long as you study the slides. There are 3 group projects that aren't difficult and hw assignments every week. There are 4 tests, the 4th one is the final and not cumulative.
Professor Troiano is amazing. She is very sweet, yet pushes everyone to be the best. As someone who had a hard year with my health, I was able to bounce back.
As long as you study for the tests a lot outside of class then you should be good. Reads off the slides the entire semester, but the exams get easier after Exam 2.
she's a nice person and an okay professor. there's no interaction in class she is just speaking at you during her lectures. the homework is really simple though. you need to know your vocab and what is going on in the main points or you will do bad on the exams as there is very little review material.
