Took Bio 115 & 117 with her in summer, she was my TA in 219 lab, and in genetics lab too(for 3 labs), so I know what I'm talking about when I tell you she's the best in everything. Really Really really really................helpful
Very helpful professor, likes what she does. Willing to meet you anytime to talk about question. Does not use the book at all. Only uses power points.
Great professor, great person
Great teacher who really cares about her students. Interesting in lecture and always open to questions. Tests are moderately hard and you must go to class regularly to understand the material.
The best professor I have ever had, she is very helpful and super nice to approach and lectures are very thorough to follow through. Her tests are very straight forward and she tells you exactly what you need to study for, she makes Biology the way it should be taught and tested. She posts lectures online and she curbs if the class does bad.
Interesting to listen to. I enjoy going to this class, she makes the topics easy to understand and when you dont understand she will find a new way to explain things.
She is so nice and super helpful. Her notes are very clear and exam material comes straight from the notes. Just do her exams reviews and pay attention and youll do fine in this class. Only downside is you cant review the quizzes she gives online and you have to go see her or a TA to review past exams.
She is an absolutely AMAZING professor! She's consistent, clear, and super helpful! Do anything you can to get her for 115!
Best professor I've had at West Virginia Univeristy. Is extremely nice and approachable and is always willing to help. Her class is a breeze if you attend lecture and do the study guide. I very highly reccommend taking her !
Wonderful professor! Super sweet, highly intelligent! She makes biology so interesting and her passion for the subject makes it even better! Highly recommend her :)
Very easy class if you attend lecture and complete the study guides. She is great at explaining concepts and willing to help if you have any problems. Very nice, approachable woman. Highly recommend taking her for Bio 115.
Awesome professor! I had her for both Bio 115 and Bio 117, and she's always nice and super helpful. Works with students on thing. Class is easy as long as you go to class and do the study guides. I highly recommend taking her.
Very approachable, very helpful, very clear on what she wants you to know for exams. An A is attainable in both 115 and 117 with her. I wish she taught more upper levels.
The best bio teacher I've had in years.
I had Professor Young for Bio 115 and 117. I absolutely loved having her as a professor. She made me love biology more than I already do. She is always available and wants the students to do well.
She's the best. Extremely approachable & helpful. Don't need to buy the book if you go to class, use her study guides and go to review sessions. Seriously if you actually choose another teacher over her, you're asking for a world of pain
Dr. Young is the best introductory biology teacher at WVU! She teaches from powerpoints, but makes all the main points very clear. Her study guides are almost identical to the exams. I thoroughly enjoyed this class. I recommend Dr. Young 100 times over.
I had Dr. Young for Bio 115 & 117, and I cannot thank her enough for what she did for me my freshman year. She's not looking to shoot your aspirations down, she wants everybody to succeed, and I think she's the most talented intro biology professor WVU has to offer.
SHE IS THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. This class is hard, BUT she is extremely clear. She explains everything, gives you the notes and teaches every single thing on the test. If you print the study guide and use the power point notes (you can print them) you will do well on the tests. IF YOU WANT AN AMAZING BIOLOGY TEACHER TAKE PROFESSOR YOUNG.
Stephanie is a great teacher that is always willing to work with students. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! I can't stress this enough. If you don't understand something just ask her for help and she will explain it to you until you get it
Dr. Young Is an amazing teacher. It's better to attend class because attendance is clicker based, and sometimes she even gives bonus points, which helps a lot when calculating your final grade. The tests are very simple. but MUST STUDY! Tests are pretty the study guide, online quizzes, and notes. Easy Class, recommend her to all Bio 115 students!
Dr. Young is an excellent professor. Easily the best choice to take for bio 115, can't stress that enough. Tests are strictly based off of study guides, very manageable if you put in the work. DO NOT miss class. she explains concepts very well and also, class points are easy and will help your grade in the end. AWESOME professor!!
Dr. Young is a truly talented professor. She is extremely clear in presenting the material and is very good at answering questions. The class is easy because she makes it easy.
awesome professor, extremely clear and concise, loves her job and teaches with enthusiasm. really makes it easy to learn, if you want to learn it. go to class and get the clicker points, they help out in the long run.
She's amazing. Biology is such a hard topic but she makes it bearable. She loves the topic soooo much that she makes it interesting when she can. I had her for 115 and 117 and I liked her a lot. Exams are the same thing as the study guides. Go to class for the clicker points. Study. And you'll be fine.
She's the best professor I've ever had in college, super helpful if you're willing to ask for help and always explains things really in depth. Going to class isn't really required but the clicker points help out a lot.
Dr. Young was by far one of my favorite teachers. She's really great at explaining the concepts and never objects to any questions after class.
Dr. Young sparked a huge interest in biology for me freshman year - the way she teaches makes everything make sense and she really knows how to capture the attention of students in class. Had her for 115 & 117 and as long as you study the study guides to your best ability you will definitely pull off good grades. Text book 100% unnecessary too.
Dr. Young is amazing when it comes to biology! She is very clear about all of the topics she covers and is very willing to help students.
She explains very well in her lectures. I had her for Bio 115 and I am going to have her for 117. She is great.
Wonderful professor. Lectures were very clear and organized, making the material a bit easier. Though there is a lot to memorize, her study guides and slides were helpful in making memorization easier. Test weren't too bad and final was really easy.
She's wonderful!!
Dr. Young is a clear and easy-to-understand professor and really cares about the students. She is extremely friendly and approachable, and teaches the class very well. I really enjoyed her classes and loved her to death as a professor. She also occasionally makes pop-culture and feminist references, which is cool. :)
Dr. Young is probably my favorite professor I've taken at WVU! I took her for both 115 and 117. She's so excited about her subject, and really friendly and nice. She's also really good at breaking down complicated biology topics to make them easier to understand. Her tests aren't that bad if you study. I wish I could take her for more classes!
Dr. Young is amazing. Her lectures are clear, and she does many examples so you can understand and get better at. I took Dr. Barry last semester for 115 and ended up with a C in class. I failed all three exams for him even though I studied hard. I got an A on my first exam in Dr. Young's class. 1010. I wouldn't bother getting the book.
I thought the class was great. Paying attention to her lectures is important because she doesnt include everything in her powerpoints. Online tests are fairly easy with no studying but are worth 4% of grade and was the difference between letter grades.
Excellent teacher.
Dr. Young is one of the most enthusiastic instructors! She explains topics in a very easy way, and is more than available to offer help and feedback.
Dr. Young is by far my favorite professor here at WVU. I had her for 115 and 117 and she was always a huge help during office hours for any questions I had. I wish she could teach every biology course I took here at WVU.
Wonderful class! The lecture was incorporated into the lab. If you love microbiology, you will thoroughly enjoy this class! In addition to that, if you took general microbiology you will be good to go. Gained valuable experience in how to observe microorganisms in various ways. A lot of writing, but not difficult at all!
Such a good teacher. She explains everything so well. Not much homework involved at all, just some online quizzes every week that you get two chances at. She definitely knows her stuff.
Great teacher. Knows what she's talking about and is always willing to help.
Great teacher overall. The way she explains her lectures are extremely helpful and always makes sure her students understand the material before moving on. Quizzes and iClicker questions are easy points. I would recommend her to anyone!
TAKE HER IF YOU CAN. her exams are just like the e-campus exams and quizzes. she's nice & humble and will be there for you whenever you need her. explains material easily. Attend so you get clicker points. more like an Easy A class.
Dr. Young was my favorite professor. She knows her stuff and teaches it in a way that makes it easy to understand. Most exams are online and the questions are usually ones you have seen before in class. She is not out to trick you, and will help you in any way possible. She is very personable, energetic, and passionate. Keeps you awake!
She is really nice and really interested in her field. I loved to listen to her talk which makes the class a lot easier to pass. She really tries to make her class fun and engaging even if you're only in it for a general requirement.
Loved having her for BIO 115 and 117. I actually wanted to pay attention during lectures. As long as you pay attention during class, take good notes, and do the self-assessments, the exams should be cake.
If you have to take Bio 117, TAKE HER! She is the best teacher I have ever had at this school. She explains everything in get detail and depth. She is a one of those teachers you had in highschool that really taught you. Go to class, and look over the notes and you will pass the tests. Everything that she goes over in class is on the test.
Super nice, very helpful. All the material you need for exams come straight from the lecture powerpoints
Hands down, best biology professor ever. I thoroughly enjoyed her course and learned so much. Would recommend for any class.
I took Dr. Young for bio 115 and 117 and was also a teaching assistant for both courses. She is a very passionate professor and I attribute a lot of my success in the biology field to how easy she makes it to understand the material, TAKE HER CANCER BIO CLASS IF YOU GET THE CHANCE! She is an amazing professor, hands down one of the best in the dept
good luck brother, she's great and is always willing to help you out but she will also make you work for it. Which is not a bad thing.
She is an amazing Prof.
Dr. Young is absolutely awesome. Definitely recommend taking her. Her lectures are amazing and you do not need to buy a book for her class. She assures that you know the concepts she is teaching by constantly having cumulative exams that helps you remember the material. She made me love Biology! CALL
Stephanie Young is the BEST professor I've had (I'm a junior). She should be doing TED / on the radio with the way she presents the material. She finds new ways to engage you in class despite there being about 200 students in lecture with you. Always super friendly, willing to help, and knows how to break down complex concepts. If you can, take her
Dr. Young knows her stuff and delivers it well. Her class is pretty easy, but she makes you earn your grade. You can tell she really cares about her students' education.
She is hands-down queen bee of the Bio department. Incredibly kind and helpful if you need extra help, but she gives you so many free points with clickers and easy weekly quizzes that you shouldn't have a problem getting an A, granted that you study for the exams. Her lectures are engaging and you learn a lot.
she is the best
For me as a student whose first language is not English she was so clear to understand! She is so kind and helpful during her office hours! I will take her for bio 117!
Dr. Young is an amazing speaker and is very passionate about what she teaches. The 115 homework load was very light, and mostly consisted of online quizzes/exams. These were relatively easy and she tried to give plenty of time and reminders for them. More difficult concepts were explained very well.
Seriously the best professor I have had at wvu so far. Online exams/quizzes were fairly easy. Her lectures are very interesting and catch your attention. I wish I had her for every bio course!!!!! She is an angel!!!!
Dr. Young is very passionate about her work and explains material in a way that everyone can understand. Her online quizzes are rather simple, but her exams are cumulative and tend to be very difficult. Class participation is mandatory because she grades daily iClicker questions.
best professor ive had
She is very passionate about what she does and teaches very well. Her explanations are clear and if you're ever confused, she's very willing to help. Bio 117 attendance is crucial. iClicker questions are graded and make sure you take the smaller side notes. She is a fantastic teacher and you should do well!
THE BEST! She's a great lecturer & covers the material well in class. Posts the slides which are great when it comes to prepping for the 4 exams that make up most of your grade in the course. Do the quizzes & go to class because there are a few clicker questions almost every day. Make time to review your exams. Can't wait to TA 4 her in the fall :)
Even if you don't like bio, you'll like this class. She keeps it interactive and interesting so it doesn't ever get too boring. Wants you to understand the material, and if you don't, gives so many options for help. Take her for bio and don't look back.
I love Dr. Young! You can tell she really cares about how well youre doing and if you understand the material. Very approachable and kind. Very clear lectures
Dr. Young is by far the best professor I have ever had. She makes biology so interesting, and it is very clear she is extremely advanced in this field. She answers questions clearly, and reminds students often of what is expected of them. I only hope I have professors in the future that are even half as awesome as she is.
Professor Young is an amazing teacher! Her lectures are interesting and she explains the content very well. If you go to lecture and pay attention you should have no problem getting an A. She is also so kind and approachable, and is willing to help with questions you have. I highly recommend her if you want to learn a lot and get a good grade!
Dr. Young was by far the best professor I have had so far. I would recommend her to anybody! She is so kind and willing to work with you to assure that you get the best grade possible.
Dr. Young was a phenomenal professor for Biol 115 and I loved her so much I got her for Biol 117. Her lectures are detailed and she works hard to make sure everyone understands everything being taught in the class. There are many opportunities for getting a good grade, her exams are cumulative, and you will have to buy a clicker.
Her lectures are easy to understand and she simplifies the concepts and definitions, which is a great thing. Participation is done with iClickers so you need to be there to be able to answer the questions. practice exams and quizzes ARE VERY HELPFUL! also the review sessions! most of the exams come from them! definitely will take BIO 117 with her..
Professor Young was great! Her class was very easy compared to other Professors that also taught BIOL115. She uses clicker questions for attendance so you don't want to miss too many classes. Her exams are cumulative, and the questions are typically pretty easy. As long as you pay attention during her lectures, you are guaranteed a good grade.
Dr. Young was an amazing professor and very easy to learn from she takes the time to explain all topics completely and provides online quizzes weekly along with Ecampus exams to prepare you for inclass exams which are very helpful.
Prof Young is amazing at what she does. Yes her test are hard but if you pay attention to her lectures you should do just fine. She is very clear and gives you many ways to learn the material. Take advantage of the opportunities she gives you! They are very helpful! Also, attend class It's amazing what you can learn from her and she does clicker ?s
Super easy class if you pay attention/apply yourself. Great teacher that will answer any questions. Explains topics in an easy to understand way, and lectures can be found online. Overall good teacher.
She's a very good bio teacher. She's very passionate and loves what she does and you can really tell. If you show up and pay attention you shouldn't have any problems on the exams.
Young is one of the best professors at WVU her lectures are easy to understand and feel applicable to what you are going to/need to learn. As long as you take notes and pay attention in class you will do fine on all of the assignments and tests. It also feels like she really cares about whether or not you learn and is available outside of class.
Super sweet lady and a great teacher. She really teaches you the material if you go to class. I had near perfect attendance and did not study for the final and got a 100. She gives practice exams that are super similar to material on the test.
Dr. Young is by far the best professor I have had. She teaches thoroughly as well as her class is the most organized class I have ever been in. She is alway available outside of class and is more than happy to explain every single concept until you understand it. If could rate her higher I would!
She can be extremely boring and it can be easy to get distracted, but if you pay attention, you can do pretty well in her class. Shes super nice and helpful. Her exams are cumulative and youll see the same questions every time so review your exams with her in her office hours and you should be able to get a A/B!
Dr. Young is an incredible professor but this class is hard. She is great at lectures and does have undergraduate TAs to help with difficult subjects alongside evening tutoring specifically for this class. That being said this class is hard. Most of the grade comes from exams and the rest from participation in class and weekly online quizzes.
While she is a great lady, I just couldn't seem to pay attention well in her class. The course is mostly exam heavy although clicker points make up most all of your participation points. Study extra for exam 2 as it is the hardest and takes up most of the cumulative parts on the other exams. If you fail it on an exam you will fail it on the others.
Best professor I had in my whole life as a university student. She really cares about her students, and always there to help them. Go to class, memorize the online quizzes and read the lectures. With the help of this great professor you will have no issues getting an A.
Best teacher Ive ever had. 10/10 would take again. If you go to every class and pay attention you will learn so much and barely have to study outside of class for exams. Love her.
My favorite professor. The BEST professor. I never study and get A's on the exams. She makes biology so easy to understand. if you have her for class you'll WANT to go and enjoy it. Attendance is mandatory for points. She knows her stuff. Extra credit available, too. Lab is the hardest part, but not even taught by her. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!
Dr. Young made every lecture as interesting as possible and always tried to be interactive. She's very clear about what to expect on exams too, I studied a decent amount and got A's on all of them. Made sure to take her again for 117! Take her if you can!
Dr. Young is a great professor and is great at explaining complex concepts. Her class is based on lectures and attendance is taken using clicker questions. I don't like bio, but she makes the class easy to follow and will answer any question in class.
Dr. Young is really great and she knows what she is doing. Lecture can be boring but make sure you pay attention and take notes. She gives you access to her power points which is really nice. She will answer any questions you have. Bio 115 isn't the easiest class so work really has to be put into it.
Get ready to study and work for your grade.
Great speaker, knows what she is talking about, and easy to talk to. Loved the class and I made sure I get her for Bio 117 as well.
Professor Young is an amazing professor. She cares about students and will always explain things clearly. Attendance is necessary. I noticed a lot of exam questions were from quizzes and ecampus exams.
Dr. Young is really great at explaining material. She is also kind and super approachable! If she's an option, definitely take her class.
She seems to be very caring and is willing to help students if they need it. She explains things very clearly and will answer any questions students have even if it isn't something that would be tested. Though she goes in depth on the information, her tests are not unreasonably hard. If you study and ask for help if you need it then you'll be fine!
She cares and breaks down biology into easy to understand examples as well as lots of clear visuals and diagrams to refer to
Dr Young, is a very well spoken and personable professor. I enjoyed her lectures even though they were full of heavy material. This is a class you have to show up to and put time in or passing exams will be difficult. You can tell Dr. Young loves her job and enjoys teaching she's clear and makes material understandable no matter the level you're at
Lecture content and quizzes/online exams are very similar to in class exams. Not a lot of homework. Get participation points for clicker questions.
Dr. Young is a fantastic professor for BIO115! She makes everything easy to understand. There are weekly homework quizzes and sometimes random assignments. In-class participation matters and can help your grade! Her exams are fair, but all four of them are cumulative, so if you dont understand something then make sure to get some help.
Dr. Young is a great professor. She thoroughly explains each topic and is very nice. Go to class, pay attention, do clicker questions and its an EASY A. The quizzes are easy and the tests are just like the ecampus exams. Wonderful professor.
Her classes were pretty much just lecture, but she used clicker questions to keep you engaged in the work. Her tests are cumulative, but they have almost the exact same old material on it every time. If you miss, all her lecture PowerPoints are online.
She is a great professor. As long as you pay attention and study the notes and exam review packets you will get an A in the class.
She is the best professor I've had so far. Explains stuff really well.
If you have the chance to take Dr. Young, DO IT! I would even suggest reworking your schedule to take her; I didn't take her for Biol 115, and I wish I had. She's incredibly thorough in her lectures and has extensive knowledge on the material. Biol 117 requires a lot of memorization, but an A should be easy if you study and go to class.
SUPPPPEERRR nice woman. I had her for both bios. I loved her teaching she genuinely lovers her job and takes her work seriously. If you don't understand something she will bend backwards to help you. Very approachable. One of the best professors that I have ever had.
Pretty much AP Bio. An excellent teacher though.
She is the best professor you will ever meet. she is very nice and very helpful she explains everything you need to pass the exams her slides are amazing. The thing that I liked most about her is how she treats students she is very down-to-earth and kind never seen her disrespect anybody. I would try everything to take the bio class with her.
Professor Young is amazing! She was very kind and respectful to all of her students. She was always willing to answer any questions about the class. Her lectures were easy to understand and very interesting. If you listen in lecture, you will not have any issues passing the class.
Dr. Young is one of the best professors I have had this semester even though the class itself wasn't easy, she does what she can to help her students out if there is something specific that is not making sense. Overall, She is a true gem and It was a pleasure being her student this semester. I would recommend Dr. Young for Biology 115.
Dr. Young is very understanding if there is late work.
Professor Young is an outstanding professor. She is great at her job and you can tell she really cares about what she teaches. There is not much homework and what is assigned is not too hard to complete. The tests are not too hard as long as you review pre-tests and weekly quizzes. Overall the best biology teacher I have ever had!
She is awesome. I love her. She is great at teaching too! Her lectures are great and easy to follow. If you study and work hard, you will get an A. She is also available during office hrs.
SHE IS AWESOME
Dr. Young is an amazing Professor. She is extremely passionate about what she teaches and explains every topic BEAUTIFULLY!! That being said, make sure you go to class because of clicker questions and STUDY!! This class is ALOT of memorizing, but as long as you study her lectures and do the assignments, you will do well!
The best professor at WVU. She explained everything perfectly, and I actually felt like I remembered and learned the material instead of just memorizing it for the exam. Overall she is the best professor I've ever had. Highly recommend!
I really like Dr. Young. She is very sweet and understanding if you have issues arise, especially with late work. Her lectures have a lot of information, but it is all important. Also, participation is important in her class.
If you have the opportunity to have this woman teach you, take her. She is amazing. So kind, supportive, and smart. Even in an all-online class, she's super engaging and gives 100%. Her tests are generally easy. They're always on stuff she emphasizes in class, so just pay attention and take notes. If you took AP bio before, you'll be 100% fine.
Dr. Young's classes are super interesting. he keeps lectures fun and engaging. However, if you skip class too often, you'll find it hard to keep up. Her tests are very straightforward and she offers plenty of prep via weekly quizzes and practice exams with multiple attempts (free points).
I highly recommend Dr. Young! Went to office hours often and she is super helpful and very friendly. She wants you to do well and understand the material. Class can get a bit boring, but lectures arent horrible. Gives a lot of extra credit. This class doesnt take up much time. Only times I spent a good bit on this class was studying for exams.
A great professor. I plan on taking her for my upper level biology courses. Her lectures are clear, concise, and easy to follow. She cares about students and while the course may be hard she is a fair grader.
Dr. Young's lectures are fantastic. She points out what information is important, teaches at a good pace, and gives context and applications of the material. Exams are fair, covering the key ideas from lectures and not asking any unreasonable questions. She answers questions well and is clearly passionate about her field of study.
Dr. Young is the best!! I'd highly recommend her for Bio 115 and I'm honestly so upset that she's not teaching 117 next semester like she normally does. She cares about her students and wants us to do well, and is always happy to chat before or after class. She has an incredible passion for biology and teaches it so well!! Absolute gem, 12/10.
Dr. Young was very thorough lectures and clear with what we had to know to do well on exams. The points are evenly distributed in the class, so one exam cannot tank your grade. The lectures were a bit boring at times. Participation matters as you get points.
Professor Young was a bright spot in my first year. She explained the material well and made sure we understood with clicker questions. If given the opportunity, take this professor, you will not regret it.
Young is such an amazing professor, she is so clear on the topics we learn in lecture and what will be on our exams. Her iClicker questions are really helpful. Her exams are not terrible. She definitely loves answering questions and loves to hear our feedback. Would definitely recommend taking her class!
Dr. Young is my favorite professor. She teaches the material very well and is always available if you have questions. She offered extra credit for exams. She always reminds you of upcoming assignments & exams. She gives pretests before every final that help. She truly cares about her students and is so kind. She is an amazing person and professor
Dr. Young is a rare gem for Biology 115. She's ultimately the best professor for Biology. I came in not understanding some basic concepts but Dr. Young explains everything so well. She's also always accessible and caring if you need help in her class. Overall TAKE HER AT ALL costs!
Dr. Young was an amazing teacher who doesn't just read the material to you and expect you to understand it. She goes through each slide and actually explains it in great detail and makes sure you dont have any question before she moves on. Sometimes her lectures are more focused on things you dont need to know though. a great teacher for bio 115!!!
Stephanie Young isn't a horrible professor, but she isn't the best though. She goes through a lot of content very quickly, even if it can be tough to understand. I hate that each test is cumulative; it's just more stress for me and more to memorize. The lectures are incredibly boring to sit through as well, so prepare yourself!
Very good at teaching biology, if you like biology thats great.
Dr. Young is a good professor, but she goes over a lot of content fast. If you pay attention, you'll most likely pass her class. There is only 1 extra credit opportunity worth 2% on an exam. She does not give any other extra credit. Exams are cumulative.
I never really been good at bio but ever since I had Ms.Young she really has change that. Her lectures are actually very informative. She always tries to help her students. She does drop a lot of stuff at the end. And her exams are all pretty repetitive as they are all cumulative which I liked because you never really forgot info from the beginning
she barely worked with students, very lecture heavy and doesnt curve exams
Very fair grading- no unknown or trick questions on the test. Class was tough but she was very thorough in her teaching and went over topics as many times as needed.
This class will be a breeze if you have taken any Bio 2 or AP Bio in high school. Dr. Young has great lectures and is very patient during office hours.
Dr Young actually made me understand the topics. She is a great professor and was always willing to talk to you about topics you don't understand.
Dr. Young is my favorite professor in the Biology department. I love how helpful and caring she is. She is a good teacher as she does a great job at lecturing. Her powerpoint slides are clear as well and tests are fair. I'd suggest her for any course no matter. She's a caring professor as well!
An amazing professor! She is so helpful and really cares about her students understanding the material.
Super nice professor, she interacts with the class and makes sure to answer questions. Homework load is quite a lot but she's easy to communicate with and answers emails quickly as well.
Great professor welcomes question to those who are confused. She offers quite a bit of extra credit and does a good job on breaking certain concepts down to make them simpler.
Dr. Young was my favorite professor this semester. I loved how helpful and caring she was throughout the semester. She is an amazing professor and does a great job at lecturing. Her powerpoint slides are clear and tests are on information straight from the notes. I'd take her for every bio class if possible!
I LOVED Dr. Young! She was very encouraging and engaging in lecture and truly wants to see her students succeed. The way she has her assessments set up are helpful for long-term success in the class and I found things like the pre-tests very beneficial. Dr. Young is extremely personable and wants to help in any way that she can.
Dr. Young is an amazing professor, she made lecture really interesting and she was very concious of the fact that her class was difficult for some, she made sure to always slow down and ask if we had any questions. There is a textbook but isn't often used aside from online homework assignments. She also records and uploads her lectures.
Dr. Young is the best. She has amazing lectures and makes biology interesting. She breaks down difficult topics and makes them easier to understand. I would take her for every single class if I could. She is one of the best professors and just person I have ever met. As long as you try, she will do everything she can to help you succeed.
She is easy to pass and funny. Also gives you easy resources and prepares you well for exams.
Dr.Young is an awesome professor. The assignments that she gives closely relate and definitely prepare you for the exams. Gives pretests that help you study.
If you have taken AP Bio, this will be the easiest class ever. It's highly structured so if you do all the hw and quizzes you barely need to study.
Dr. Young brings a great energy and enthusiasm to a topic as stale as building resumes and growing job applications, which helps make the class more enjoyable. The content itself was very straightforward, as all of the journal entries could essentially be completed in class. She makes everything super clear and the class was a breeze with her help.
She's the best bio professor
Professor Young makes bio easy - she's engaging, breaks down tough topics, and genuinely cares about students. With her clear lectures and helpful resources like unstuck AI, acing this class is a breeze.
Professor Young is a great biology teacher. I had taken AP Biology previously, but I still managed to learn so much from her lectures. You must go to class because iClickers are used for points basically every day, but that just means easy points. Exams have a lot of study material, and she offers exam review sessions as well.
Dr. Young is absolutely amazing! She has the most engaging lectures & explains them in a way that everyone can understand. She truly cares about each student & wellbeing outside of class. She prepares students for exams extremely well & offers extra credit. As long as you show up, you will do well in this class. She provides lots of resources!
Dr. Young put a lot of effort into her lectures and clearly explained everything. She gives a good amount of homework. Her tests aren't too hard if you study enough.
Dr. Young is a great professor. The only reason I didn't give her a 5 is because I found her lectures very boring. Attendance is mandatory, but she drops the lowest 5-6 attendance grades which gives you two weeks of class that you can miss before being penalized. She always posts her lectures online and is always willing to answer any questions.
Great professor! Drops 6 attendances, tests are challenging but doable, and lectures are clear/helpful. Office hours are great, and I always come out of office hours feeling better about the content.
Stephanie is great. She posts every slide and lecture on Ecampus for you to review. Your lowest quiz grade gets dropped and 6 absences get dropped. I've talked to her after class and she is so sweet. She also provides extra credit.
Dr. Young is a great person and funny. I had a blast taking this class. It was also really easy to learn. Would definitely take her class again.
Dr. Young is great and very informative. She explains everything amazingly. If you need to take BIOL 115/117, take Dr. Young.
Dr. Young for BIOL 117 was incredible. Her lectures were amazing, and she was very energetic, making lectures interesting and fun. She operates her class on somewhat of a "flipped classroom," which I disliked in the past, but she provided the materials to make it effective, and I think it worked well for teaching the material. Highly reccomend!
attendance isn't really mandatory but she uses iclicker every class for points and it makes up a lot of your grade. her lectures are amazing and she really cares about making sure everyone understands the content. I would definitely take her again she is so sweet and her exams are not that hard if you study and do the pretests!
fantastic prof (and has the best ecampus organization of any prof i've had) informative lectures and fair exams. she cares and wants you to succeed. if you study, you will get an A. can't ask for anything else
Love her. One of the best bio professors. Cares abt her students. assignments and tests are straight forward. Lots of assignments, but this makes it easier to get a good grade in the class. Tests are just like pre-tests and quizzes given. Has a lot of lowest grades dropped. Very organized professor. Take her over any other biol117 professor!!
She's easily the best professor I've had. Sometimes she is slow moving through lectures but is understanding and will adapt for whats best for the class. Exams very much reflect whats in her lectures. She's also super sweet and is more than happy to help you out in office hours. You have to put in effort to do well, but it is not unreasonable
What a queen. She is an amazing explainer when it comes to lectures and will go out of her way to explain it another way if the first one doesn't make sense. She does use clicker for attendance and in class participation points. If you study for the exams and do the pretests, you can easily achieve an A. Her office hours are generous and accessible
Love Dr. Young! This class was a lot of work, but she truly cares about students and gave us every resource possible to succeed IF we put in the effort. Attendance/participation is graded. Exams are challenging, but ok if you study hard. I would definitely take Dr. Young's classes again!
Sends out course schedule w/ check boxes first day AND updates it regularly as things change. Grade calculator spreadsheet also. Ex.C ops every week & Ex.C (1-time) for attending office hours. iClicker for points almost daily. 3-4 exams + pre-tests, weekly quizzes, 2-4 HW/week. Pearson Mastering Bio based. Lectures pair well w/ lab content.
Very good professor, material wasn't easy to learn but she helped us through it. If you study and use her materials, show up to class and pay attention, you'll get an A
Awesome professor! She helped me understand the concepts in BIOL 115 so well. Even in a huge lecture hall, she made lecture engaging and had such a good attitude.
she is a great professor! biology is a hard topic but she has a great way of explaining it. plenty of extra credit opportunities but she prepares you well for what's on the exam. very interactive even in a huge lecture hall, would definitely take again! (attendance is mandatory, though you get six free absences)
Dr. Young has been one my favorite professors I think I've ever had. Lectures were very informative, easy to follow, and exam were not difficult. Overall PLEASE take Dr. Young if you have to take BIOL 115, you will love the class.
Dr. Young is an amazing professor. She is very experienced in teaching 115 classes and helps freshmen adjust to college-level classes. She is a great lecturer and covers every topic clearly and in-depth. Her assignments aren't bad and she does well preparing you for her exams, which are pretty easy.
