Tests are based on variables not numbers. He tries his best to explain things in class but doesn't realize no one knows what he means. Hardly works any problems in class so READ THE BOOK to do well. The tests are nothing like the homeworks, Go to class, he gives clicker questions for extra credit. Nice guy, first year teaching but there is a curve.
I did not take physics in high school, so I was pretty nervous about the class. However, Mr. Adams goes out of his way to help and gives good examples. While challenging, his tests are fair, and if you put in the work it will pay off. Make sure to work all problems and read the textbook before class. Overall, I've enjoyed this class!
Stephen B Adams is the man!! He is by far the best Physics professor at Auburn. He cares about his students and doesn't talk over your head during lectures. His class is definitely not a walk in the park, but he lets you know what is needed to do well. The tests are multiple choice and long answer problems. He is super helpful and a great guy!!
This is a very hard class regardless of who you take, but Adams is probably the best teacher in the Physics department. You can tell he truly enjoys teaching, explains things about as clear as he can, and he really wants you to do well. His tests aren't easy, but they are more forgiving than other professors' tests.
DONT TAKE AT AUBURN AND DONT TAKE WITH ADAMS . He promised a 5 point curve at the beginning of the semester and ended with a 2 point curve. The average on the final was a 57% and he didn't scale it AT ALL. He also isn't even a "Dr" because he couldn't pass his boards. Who let him teach this class is beyond me. Save yourself and take it elsewhere
If you want a teacher who reads my rate my professor & then writes a petty Facebook status about anything he dislikes, then he is right up your alley. Maybe he should spend more time helping his students & less time on social media. If you want a good laugh go read his status about his first review and how he thinks physics is "common sense."
Very difficult professor. He had very hard tests and was very boring in class. Homeworks were impossible without chegg. You can pass this class but he definitely makes you work for it
Adams is a great professor, who prepares his students well for the common final. He cares that you understand and goes out of his way to help. If you give your full effort you'll get the grade you deserve. Would take again!
Really is a nice guy and tries hard to please his students. The class is over all really difficult. I would take it somewhere else if possible.
If you care about your GPA you will take this class somewhere other than Auburn. He doesn't really teach anything, and he uses the power point given by the book. ( yes, the worst kind of teacher) The homework he gives is ridiculously hard, and the book isn't helpful (homework isn't even based off the assigned book). Tests are ridiculously hard.
Mr. Adams is a really nice guy who cares about his students. He does use a PowerPoint but explains concepts well and makes class interesting. He is also very approachable in office hours if you need extra help. If you work the homework problems and read the textbook you will succeed in this class.
Great teacher! Tests and homework were very tough but made the common final a breeze. Physics can be a tough class and he did a very good job explaining it. Doesn't grade inflate/curve, what you get is pretty much what you get and reflects how much effort you put in. Didn't end up with an A but I for sure know how to do physics now.
PHYS 1610 is a difficult class. Instructor explains material well and prepares you for tests and exam. Be prepared to work.
Hard class, to be sure. The homework is a pain and time-consuming, but definitely a grade-booster. If you go to any class, go to the last one - he summarized all of the semester in one day, it was impressive. Tests are difficult, but WATCH HIS YOUTUBE VIDEOS and do understand the HW problems and you'll do okay.
I personally feel Stephen is a great professor. No matter who you take, Physics/Physics 2 are hard courses but having someone who is willing to negotiate misgradings, meet with you outside of class, and cares about who you are as a student are definitely things that help make this course less difficult and he surpasses in all of these. Take him.
This was the hardest class I've ever taken, but I understand Physics 2 is hard everywhere. He tried his best to teach everything, but the class was very lecture heavy and boring. The homework assignments are really hard and take forever, and he also has clicker questions for participation at the beginning of class. Try to take this class elsewhere
This was his first time teaching this class, so he seemed a little over whelmed. Hopefully it will get better for him. Do NOT be in a hurry to get your grades, he's not.
Took him for concepts and it was the easiest class ever. He uses clickers for participation, but puts all his notes online. Tests are pretty much your entire grade and he tries to make the lectures interesting. Easy A!
He clearly knew what he was talking about and was very interested in the topics, especially when it came to physics. You have to show up and just use the clicker to answer a question and not actually participate at all, but if you don't participate and pay attention, it's a difficult class.
very clear about what will be on his tests, knows his stuff and doesn't swamp you with material. he will teach the concepts in class instead of talking about them. great guy
He cares more about the concepts of physics than the actual working of it. If you pay attention in his lectures and take good notes, you should be able to do the labs and exams no problem. He is very caring and always ready to help. BEWARE: his homework is problem heavy, not conceptual, so you will actually have to understand.
I thought I understood the material until I sat down for the second exam. Adams is a great professor and really seems to enjoy what he does. However, the material is difficult to master if you have never taken a physics course before.
Professors Adams was the BEST physics teacher. I did not take physics in high school so I was scared to take physics at Auburn. But he is funny and really cares about his students. Offers bonus points if you do not miss any clicker questions. Did not have to go to his office, but he is very approachable if you need help.
Physics at Auburn is HARD and having never taken a physics class before I was encouraged to take it elsewhere, but I'm so glad I didn't. Professor Adams is an amazing teacher, very easy to listen to and understand, and extremely approachable and helpful. Go to class, take good notes, read, and struggle through the homework and you'll do fine.
Adams was a great teacher, good at helping you understand the material, very accessible, and he really cares if you really care. practice practice practice problems! He is the best physics teacher at Auburn.
Physics is hard in general. Adams makes it bearable. Go to class because that is the best way to see how he wants problems done, as well as get iClicker points. SI was helpful for prepping for tests, and the class in general left me in a good position for the common final.
Adams is a good professor and very approachable outside of class. One thing I didn't like was the lack of example problems he gave in class. He gives the easiest example in the notes and then the test has very hard problems. Read the textbook, do the Expert TA, and come to class to do clicker questions and it is manageable.
I think that Dr. Adams must be the BEST physics professor at Auburn!! He actually cares about his students (which I feel is lacking in this department). This is still physics, so you need to WORK for your grade. My only complaint would be that we mostly did the easiest version of problems in class. I really learned so much from him!
Adams is a solid professor, lectures well and makes physics easier to understand. His tests are pretty hard, I got Bs on all of them despite a lot of studying. Please go to class! The lectures are helpful and he sometimes does problems in class that will be on the test. Same with the homework.
Go to class, read your notes, read the end of chapter summaries, and do the practice problems he gives. Buy Chegg for Expert TA because it's impossible. I had a 85 after the final and he curved it to an A.
Good professor with interesting lecture and creative examples. Definitely not easy but no physics class is going to be easy. Do the homework and study hard and you will get a deserving grade.
Good teacher. Cares a little too much on explaining how equations are derived than just teaching what you need to know. It would be better if he worked more examples in class. Takes attendance via iClicker and adds bonus points for correct answers. Nothing is curved but the final grades will be scaled at the end.
Very hard class.I found the lecture to be a waste of time. He spends too much time deriving equations instead of giving examplesRequired iclicker for attendance. Homework is impossible without chegg Testwere very hard no matter how hard you study CommonFinal was worse than all of his tests He let us replace our lowest test with finalCurved 8 points
Professor Adams is honestly super cool. Gives good lectures and explains every thing really well (Almost too well He tends to use too many words when he talks and writes onto the power points) Tests are short and very specific to the study guide . Do the Study guides & you're good to go. Also he dresses like a magician and has super cool earrings.
Prof. Adams is a really really awesome teacher! Physics 2 is just a hard subject, but he does a great job of explaining equations and preparing you for tests. Go to class and work old tests to study. If you do the homework and actually can understand examples and equations, you'll be fine. Go to his office hours too! He's a cool guy
He's pretty nice and knows a lot of his students by name, despite the huge lecture hall. He does fun examples sometimes in class. I hate physics a lot but he was a solid professor.
he ruined my life the past 2 semesters. despite reading the book, working problems, and attending almost every class, i bombed the final. even if you are one point away from getting an A or B, he WILL NOT ROUND UP. cried both semesters about my borderline grade and he told me to "do better". you will be forced to devote your life to physics
I had Professor Adams for 1500 and 1510 and let me tell you, it has been a JOURNEY. I did not take physics in high school so seeing it for the first time at Auburn was a horror story. If you cannot find his old exams, don't even bother taking his class. Adams does NOT prepare you for the common final and then refuses to give more than a 3 pt curve.
The best science teacher I have ever had. Great study guides for the tests which really help. If you're awful at science like me Adams is a great teacher to take.
Prof Adams was a very good concepts teacher that really got my interested in science when I am an economics major. The tests are very straight forward all you have to do it go to class and listen. Make an outline on the powerpoints and you will enjoy the class while making an A
The best professor for physics at auburn. His lectures are awesome and hes passionate about the material. Does cool demonstrations too. His tests arent bad, but the common final is HARD. Do the homework and go to SI and you should be fine.
One word describes this course ..... eh
A hard class, but a good teacher. Prefers using algebra to solve problems which can be useful if you have not taken all of your calculus classes yet. Don't count on your final grade being curved.
Hard class, but amazing professor. Very thorough lectures, but reading textbook and studying worked examples in the textbook is very helpful. Do not count on a grade scale at the end of the semester. Dr. Adams truly cares about his students and is always willing to help.
Physics is just hard, but Prof. Adams makes it simpler. He is very fair, so he won't budge much on test grades, but the final is always scaled.
I was so afraid to take physics 2 but Adams is the best professor you could take as he has perfect homeworks and examples in class that prepare you for the exam well. His exams aren't that hard if you take the time to study and keep up with the material. He is hilarious and makes a horrible subject so worth learning! 110% recommend
Almost took physics 2 at Southern Union to avoid Auburn's physics department; however I am so glad I didn't. He is a really nice guy who makes lectures bearable and funny. I did the bare minimum and I got an A. He likes conceptual problems. Getting the old tests will help tremendously. Go to class and listen and you won't have to do much else.
Dr. Adams is a great professor who really encourages his students to study and work hard. The lecture is required and helps enormously as he explains things really well. Tests are difficult but fine if you study and do lots of practice problems. I made a 97 on the common final with Adams!
Usually spends too much time on theory. Does not work enough examples. Hw is completely different from the test and will sometimes require Chegg imo. The tests are also very difficult. He doesn't like to curve so don't count on more than 2 points. I would take someone else.
Good professor for PHYS at auburn. Definitely better than others. He enjoys physics and you can tell from his lectures. They can be interesting but not necessarily the best at portraying all the material you need to know. You learn mostly from lab and studying on your own. Grading is fair and you can get the grade you want if you work hard.
Physics is a difficult subject, but Adams makes it doable. He really cares about his students and you can tell he really enjoys teaching which makes the class better. He is very approachable and a fair grader. Highly recommend his class.
The only class I didn't pass at Auburn.
Mr. Adams is super nice. This is a hard class because it's Physics. Watch youtube and Khan Academy videos. His lectures are great. Exams are tough, but old ones help u prepare. An 88 will likely be an A (and he replaces lowest test with final usually). Do NOT Chegg HW answers, will hurt you. Go to Office Hours and get to know him. He'l help w/HW
Dr. Adams made this non-science major class as interesting as possible. His tests were easy enough and he acted like he truly cared that we succeeded. He is a great choice for a science professor.
Really good prof! I think it was his first time teaching the course so the tests were so easy. Covers very broad concepts from each of the sciences! Don't stress about taking notes during class just copy and paste the notes from the powerpoints. Takes daily attendance and participation questions through a site similar to iclicker.
Physics is just really hard but if you are going to take it at Auburn, Adams is a good choice.
Adams is a nice guy but is class was insanely hard for me and I ended up having to drop it because I was failing. He expects you to teach yourself outside of class and the lab quizzes are literally impossible, especially if you aren't a math person and have never taken physics before. Do yourself a favor and take this class at a community college.
I really liked Adams, he wasn't very difficult. I haven't taken a physics course since high school and I felt confident in his class.
Very good professor who teaches the material well. One term paper, 3 tests, and a final. Very fair and tests mainly on his lectures. A lot of math involved and you dont have to remember any equations since he gives you an equation sheet for tests. Definitely would recommend taking him for PHYS 1000.
Is a really nice guy and loves science, but I thought this class was a little difficult for basic concepts. Helpful during office hours and helps out the class by curving midterm grades. Definitely go to class and try to make it to office hours if you are confused about something. Go over past tests and try your best to understand material.
Im an A student and I had to drop this class because I was failing. randomly does in class participation so dont skip. lectures really dont help your understanding of the course because homework and tests are much more difficult than any examples worked in class. if he gives worksheets study those because he WILL use them as test questions
He's a good teacher and knows what he's talking about but physics is just a hard subject in general. DO NOT SKIP CLASS. Test averages were super low all semester but as long as you are above average on them he scales a good bit at the end. Thought about withdrawing but stuck it out and ended with a B. Lab and homework helps your grade
Physics 2 is a hard subject. You will not skip class and chegg the homework and just get it. One of the best options in the department at Auburn is Adams. Take him, go to class, read the book, and ask TA's for help, and it is manageable. Difficult but your best choice.
Physics 2 is a hard class. The common final will be horrible. However, I really learned a lot from Dr. Adams. Very respectful and was a big help anytime I saw him in his office. Go to lecture, got to lab, and read the book. Also you will not chegg the homework and do well in this class. Tests come straight from lectures. So take good notes.
Mr. Adams is a great professor who gives intriguing lectures . Attendance to his classes are important if the student wishes to do well on his tests. He doesn't structure his classes in a way that makes them easy either, but they are relatively passable if the student applies their-self enough.
Dr. Adam's is a fantastic professor! During this whole pandemic he has been so helpful. Even before now, you can tell he wants his students to do well. Go to lecture!! If you do all your expert TA hwk and work problems from your textbook it will help for test. He makes physics pretty clear and straight forward. The TAs are also very helpful.
Literally the hardest class I have taken and will probably ever take. This professor makes it a little better but overall this engineering physics 2 is an insanely difficult class. I studied a ton and really tried by best and made a D. The average on the final was a 50/100.
He made this class easy while also trying to get us to actually learn material. Lectures were interesting, and he never tested us on anything other than what was lectured on. Definitely understood that non-science majors were taking this class, so did a good job explaining the material and offered extra credit and was available during office hours
The class isn't necessarily an easy A and requires you to actually go and take notes. His lectures can get a bit boring and are definitely physics focused most of the time. A solid choice for a professor but you have to put in the work. Also, dude looks like Michael from V Sauce.
Over the summer, Adams gives 9 exams and a final. There is no extra credit and the hw is for accuracy. He drops 104 points which is like 2 exams and a hw plus a minor curve. What matters is that he is very passionate and cares about students' understanding of the material. He takes the time to make sure you get it. Good professor; difficult class
Dr. Adams is a great professor. He is super caring and does his best to help out. If you have a problem in the class, go to him! Often times these classes are huge and he will not know you are struggling unless you ask for help. Do the homework on ExpertTA and make sure to review it, and major concepts, for your tests! It will help a lot!
Excellent instructor in the lectures, the relatively casual style makes the material easy to understand. He was the most prepared to switch to online classes out of all my professors. Handled the class very well and explains the course better than other physics professors I've had.
Never went to class after the first month, somehow managed a C. A great course and a great professor who would rather see you understand the material than anything else. The most confusing part of the class was the way the final exam was graded. Besides the odd grading style, great class and great professor.
Physics is not easy, but Adams makes it much easier with his interesting, crystal clear lectures. He cares about your success in the class, even dropping your lowest test score. However, the way he grades his exams are quite confusing.
Dr. Adams is a really great guy and definitely a good choice for 1600. I personally had some difficulties adjusting to his teaching style since his homework isn't that similar to his tests, so it's kind of hard to know what to expect on them. However, he's very reasonable and approachable outside of class, and has a good YouTube channel.
The best professor for PHYS 1600! Curves the overall class grades on a scale at the end. Replaces lowest midterm with final if it will help your grade.
Dr. Adams is a great teacher and person. His lectures are interesting and focus on the concepts behind the math. I found the homework and tests to be very challenging, but fair. Definitely read the textbook, go to office hours & SI, and watch his YouTube videos! I should have put in more hours, but overall taking this class was a good experience.
One of the best professors in the physics dept. Don't skip class, but his lectures are very intriguing. He teaches the information incredibly well. Be prepared to study, but with good attendance and hard work you can easily make a good grade.
Probably the best option for physics teacher. lectures can be hard to follow and tests are tough to understand but he is pretty good
Dr. Adams is a nice guy but do not count on scales or curves to help your grade. The tests are all theoretical which makes them significantly more difficult.
Dr. Adams teaches lectures with the understanding that you've already looked through the textbook before class. He likes to work problems symbolically (no numbers) and performs demonstrations every other class to show you how physics works in the real world. Office hours aren't very accessible, but he responds to Canvas messages within a day's time
Great physics prof. AU lets you take physics even if you haven't had calc yet. DONT DO THAT. People struggled w/o the math to support this course. Adams is a great teacher but he's here for the physics. Do yourself a favor and learn calc first. Topics make so much more sense that way. I'm already booked with Adams(the GOAT) for Physics 2.
Dr. Adams is incredible. He is very helpful but you have to be willing to put in the work to do well in this class. Its not impossible by any means, but physics is hard and you have to put in time and effort. Overall, Adams is a really cool guy, a fair grader, and he will do everything he can to help you understand. GO TO CLASS & READ THE BOOK
This material is just tough, but I believe he is the best to teach it. He explains things in class, but is also very helpful outside of class and makes an effort to be available. His tests were very hard but they prepare you well for the final. Not a fun class, but a good teacher.
Probably the hardest class I've taken thus far, but he teaches it fairly well. There aren't many options for physics teachers, so he's probably the best option. The ending homework questions are important to know because one of them will probably be on the test. Watch the youtube lectures and do the example problems he posts. Good luck, it's hard.
9 exams+final in summer sounds insane, but it was actually kind of amazing. I wish other classes gave exams every friday. It makes them feel less like sudden death. Adams is an outstanding teacher. I took his 1600 as well, but summer just hits different. Excellent prof for a very hard course. Take it in summer if you can.
This class is definitely one of the better physics classes at Auburn versus other teachers. Very test/lecture heavy, and make sure to take advantage of office hours. Adams also has a youtube channel to help. The book isn't necessary if you take good notes, go to office hours, and watch the videos. The course is fast-paced, so be prepared each class
Dr. Adams is a great guy with a real talent for teaching. Eng Physics 1 at Auburn is not easy by any means. It starts off fairly easy and then gets incredibly difficult. Also, his homework and few tests can be very difficult. Chegg is your best friend for the homework but if you want to learn it, get help from him. Read the textbook before class.
TAKE THIS CLASS DURING SUMMER!!! He gives tests every week but they're super specific and allow you to hyper-focus on one or two chapters a week. The only catch is you have to give alot of effort and cannot get behind. As long as you go to class, do homework, and stay on track, you should be good. Great guy and extremely accessible during summer.
Adams is a great professor, definitely held my attention in class. Read textbook before class (even if you just skim). Go to his lectures (he's really smart and really funny). Get tutoring if you need help. Go to office hours after tests to review with him what you missed. Work through problems (especially in class ones) to study for tests.
Adams is a good professor that cares about his students. Information is clear and easy to understand. The only assignments are 4 exams. All the content of the exams is found on the lecture slides so take notes and pay attention and you will be fine. Definitely one of my favorite professors!
I loved Dr. Adams! I was in his class for core science credit and I really liked him as a professor. He definitely makes lectures fun and engaging and is a great professor all around. The only assignments we had were four exams and a cumulative final, but if you show up, take notes, and review the lecture slides, you'll do really well.
This lecture how I believe all classes should operate for college students - lectures then a test with no pop quizzes/extra assignments that distract from the focus of the lectures. Solid lecturer and explains concepts very well. Attendance was taken almost every class day, but some classes can be missed without being penalized too harshly.
Professor Adams was a great professor. Attendance was mandatory so that was pretty annoying at times but he frequently let class out early. His class consist of 4 exams, a final, lab average, and attendance. He does replace your lowest test score with your grade on the final. His class is strictly lecture and his test are easy if you study.
Pretty good professor. Physics is a hard subject, but he teaches pretty well. You'll want to actually go to class because he's better than the book. Tests are made up of a few multiple choices and then 3-5 short answer sections. Gives partial credit. Would recommend
Dr. Adams is an awesome teacher, he really is passionate about what he teaches. Tests are hard but definitely not impossible. Attendance is not mandatory, but that is where you get all the material needed to succeed. He is very helpful in office hours. He is nice and genuinely wants students to succeed. He really made the class enjoyable.
Great professor. Does his best to make physics interesting and explains concepts well. People struggle on tests but if you attend class regularly and study the problems in the homework and the ones he gives in class they arent that bad. No physics class wont be difficult but he makes it more bearable. If youre prepared to work, an A is possible.
Dr. Adams is a really great teacher, but physics in general at auburn just sucks. This is the hardest class I've ever taken, but I also have no physics background from high school. Homework does not prepare you for the test. Hire a tutor if you think you're going to struggle. Wouldn't take this class again just because I hate physics.
Physics is a tough class, but his lectures really helped me understand the material. His exams are tough, but fair. He never pulled any surprises and I would absolutely choose him again! Also office hours are supper helpful!
Dr. Adams was a wonderful professor. Physics is just not my subject, and I'm cool with that. Do not skip class because his exams are based on in-class problems and worksheets. It's a hard class. Overall, I think he's a great choice for physics. He kept lectures interesting and was always willing to help in-office hours. He's also really funny too!
Overall, I actually really enjoyed this professor and his class. He was very funny and kept things fairly lighthearted. The only thing that was a bit annoying was that his tests seemed to be worded difficultly for no reason, and were sometimes a bit confusing. I felt like I had to study harder in this class compared to other I took in the semester.
I really enjoyed Professor Adams' personality. He made this class more interesting even though it is a boring intro science class. You will need to study, especially if you did not get a good foundation of any of the subjects in HS. As someone with a good knowledge of AP Physics, AP Chem, and Bio from HS, I felt like those parts were very easy.
He is probably my favorite professor I have had so far. He explains everything wonderfully. He is accessible outside of office hours if you want, and his office hours are super helpful. Go to class! Physics is hard, so the class is hard, but he definitely makes it fun. He does not curve tests but curves your final grade a good bit.
Great class. Professor explains all the science well and cares to explain it clearly. Only 4 exams and a final. Pretty simple. Show up and put attention and study his slide shows a little and its not too hard.
I had Dr. Adams last semester, and I took him again this semester because of how much I liked him. He made physics concepts very simple and broke them down in class so that even non-science majors could understand them. The class is based on four exams and a final, and I would highly recommend taking him.
Professor Adams is fantastic! Physics is hard no matter what, but he genuinely cares for his students, wants them to succeed, and is always available for extra help. GO TO OFFICE HOURS- huge help. Occasional lab quiz, 7 homeworks total (don't count much), 4 tests, and a final. Textbook reading (not required but helpful) goes along with class notes.
Adams is a really great professor, definitely take him if possible! The subject is hard but he does an amazing job of helping you to understand it and provides you everything you need to succeed in the class. Tests are easy if you know the material, just pay attention and do the homework and you will be fine. Much better than other phys professors.
Stephen was AMAZING! his lectures were so easy to sit through and his tests were very easy and straightforward from the study guides 10/10
Concepts of science is definitely not a fascinating class, but he does his best to hold your attention. He is caring, always offering to help, and just a goos guy. Makes the class extremely comprehendible. Would take him every year if I could just because of his personality.
Adams does a good job describing and explaining the material. Concepts of Science is a cakewalk, and the exams are easy if you show up to class regularly.
He made Concepts of Science ROCK. He explained everything so well and made it fun and easy to understand. You definitely want him for a science class.
Professor Adams is great at explaining concepts and is a genuinely good guy. The content was very easy for me, as I learned all this stuff in high school. Still, I enjoyed the class and recommend Professor Adams
I loved professor Adams. He was a great teacher. If you go to class and study the material you will do just fine. His test are very straight forward and you can tell he wants you to do well in the class. Definitely would recommend this class.
Professor Adams was great all semester long. He doesn't do PowerPoints, but instead notes from in-class. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you want to pass you need to go to class. Very understanding, and tests are only on subjects talked about in class.
Professor Adams gives very interesting lectures. There's no homework and attendance isn't mandatory, but still go to every class and make sure you understand the material. Make sure to study for conceptual questions, not just math related questions.
Physics at auburn is complex, but this guy is the best option. Super chill dude and always willing to respond to your question. He always wants you to succeed in the course. Go to class, understand the concept and examples, homework questions, and practice quizzes he treated in class. Plus, find a study partner. This lecture is test heavy.
Physics is a really hard class and is used to weed out students but he made the class so enjoyable. I was actually excited about getting up and going to class at 8am which is crazy. He curves the class and offers assistance with the tests and quizzes. He also drops the lowest lab which is nice. You literally can not do better.
He is a great professor, but you absolutely NEED to attend class every time to know what is going on because he barely posts anything on canvas and the book just isn't enough. He is great at explaining stuff and always available to help. He curves the class really reasonably too, he is probably the best option at auburn.
He is a really great professor and you can tell he truly enjoys physics. He tries to explain things in a way students will understand and draws pictures. He likes to crack jokes and honestly is just a great lecturer. I'm not great at physics in general but he made it a decent class to come to. Just wish we did more practice problems in class
He explained everything very well and even made it interesting and fun. The only grades you get in the class portion are tests, but the labs, which are 25% of your grade and attendance mandatory, help cushion that a lot. His tests are pretty easy as long as you pay attention in class and read the slideshows. Labs were tedious but doable.
Professor Adams was great. Attendance is not mandatory but I highly recommend you go to the lectures as they are entertaining and help you understand the content much better. There is a textbook, but I barely used it. For the exams, just review the slides and you'll be fine. The content was just a broad overview of subjects learned in highschool.
I feel so mixed about this class because I hated the lecture style so much, but he ends up doing a good job in the end. I bombed the first test and was a struggle to get back up, but I ended with a 94 in the class. Much more involved than Physics 1 and there isn't much correlation between the two classes other than basic forces and vectors.
Overall he was a great teacher. He made it very clear what you needed to know and what was going to be on the tests. His lectures were interesting too. He was able to make topics that were more complex easier to understand. His slideshows were very wordy sometimes and there was a ton of information to remember, but overall this course was enjoyable
Concepts of science was easy. He follows the textbook but you don't need to read it at all, just know what's on the powerpoint slides. Only 4 tests and a final but the lab activities will help bring up your grade. He will replace your lowest test grade with your grade on the final if your final is higher than your lowest test grade.
Does not teach the class well. In class work/notes does not prepare you at all for the hw or the test at all. He admits to having bad handwriting and still doesn't change it. Doesn't drop anything or scale as much as other professors and office hours are at the worst time so you can't even get help. The physics department has failed Auburn
His lectures were laid-back, informative, and entertaining. Office hours were at a weird time for me, but he was always super helpful during them. Tests are a lot like the homework but slightly easier. The homework is a lot harder than what he goes over in class, but he'll help with it during office hours.
This professor told me to "get over my anxiety," and that made me more anxious. He also goes at lightning speed; if you don't have mental health issues and can keep up, he may be a good professor, but I did not have a good experience.
tests are incredibly difficult with not enough time. genuinely do not take this prof if you want to have a good gpa (first day, he said "your gpa's don't matter!"). homework has very little to do with tests and is unforgiving, and overall test-preparedness is extremely lackluster. great, funny guy, but terrible prof.
I liked Adams, I think his lectures were clear and interesting but his tests were harder than the things that we practiced in class. You're going to have to put in quite a bit of study time if you don't already completely understand physics. Class isn't mandatory but I highly recommend going.
The worst class and professor I have had at Auburn. The grading is harsh and there is no extra credit or help for this course. I would highly advise taking anyone else.
Stephen Adams has taken physics and made it the equivalent of Chinese Water Torture. He teaches content never tested on, his homework is useless, he is extremely unhelpful, telling you to just "read the textbook." Teaches physics WITHOUT numbers. "GPA doesn't matter" until he fails you (his words). If no other professors available, change majors.
Professor Adams has a great way of breaking down concepts and explaining difficult subjects. That being said, the class is tough. If you don't go to class, you will fail. The tests are hard, but he is fair. The homework is not like the tests, and I wish he provided more practice. The class also had zero relation to aviation. Great guy, hard class.
He lectures pretty good, but is slow. I got cocky towards the end of the year and stopped attending class as much, my grade dropped significantly because it was simply more difficult to get the basics on my own. It didn't feel time efficient, but it beat my other method. The textbook was also better than the homework for exam prep.
Dr. Adams is a good guy. He absolutely wants his students to succeed. It is true that he says that "gpa isn't everything" but it is because he believes that if you understand the material, which he emphasizes as how we should approach the course, then good grades will follow. He makes jokes during lecture(you have to attend if you want to pass).
Professor Adams taught everything without numbers which was not that helpful to me to learn the concepts. The labs for this class are quite long but not too bad. The tests are pretty hard with the average being around 70% because neither the homework or his lectures cover the problems on the test.
He is great and just pay attention in the class to get a good grade and study for the tests.
Don't take his class if you aren't good with symbols. He never really uses numbers during lecture, but the homework, textbook, and final are all numbers. Homework is very hard, and the practice is somewhat helpful for exams. Exams are difficult and unforgiving (you can do bad on one question and get a D) A good person, not a good physics professor.
Adams is good, but not for everyone. His lectures don't include enough practice problems and his homework is not helpful for exams. He chooses the most difficult problems which does prepare you for the final, but if you mess up just a few on tests it really tanks your grade. Fun guy but not the best professor. Take Merrill if you can.
This professor sucks. The only good thing about his class is the scale he adds at the end of the semester. His lectures are good for some concepts but horrible for examples. He does not give you enough practice problems before the test to understand how to solve test questions. Please take Merrill and save your time and money.
Very nice professor. The tests were not bad questions were just weighted pretty heavy. Available to help if needed during office hours.
Attendance isn't mandatory but helpful. He teaches a bit differently than the textbook so either go to all his lectures or read the textbook. His homework and in class worksheets are hard but if you can understand them, you'll do good on exams. Make friends in the class to work on assignments and go to office hours.
Dr. Adams is a great professor who explains concepts very well. His lectures are 90% of where the exam content comes from so go to class. I highly recommend going through the textbook covering the topics discussed in class and even doing the sample problems. If you stay on track and keep up with the pace of the course, it shouldn't be too bad.
This guy just doesn't know how to teach well. If you have not taken physics before you will not do well at all. He doesn't do ANY problems in class. I repeat any. Homework is then impossible cause you'll have to chegg it and then you have no idea what to expect on the test. Tests make up 85% of the class its not fair while Merrils is only 40%.
I see him around campus all the time and i get so excited! I usually do not enjoy learning about science but he made it fascinating and was super approachable and ready to help his students. He has a clear and organized way of teaching, and his tests reflect that. He was not biased politically, but presented everything objectively.
A good and caring professor but your grade is made up of 4 tests only and the tests are pretty challenging. I'm an A B student and can't make above a 70 on any of his tests even when I study a lot. I would say if you're a good test taker you'll be fine but if not then I wouldn't recommend him
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He is the most hilarious man ever. Thanks to him, I understand the scientific concepts discussed in class. He is very lenient about class and it is not mandatory.
Super funny and easy to understand. One of my favorite professors.
Prof. Adams is a cool guy but don't take his class if you've never taken physics before. You HAVE to show up to lecture if you want to pass. Tests are pretty difficult even if you study. There's only a few questions per test so if you miss one, you're screwed. Four tests, a final, and HW probs for each unit. Overall nice guy, but difficult class.
Professor Adams has a unique teaching style - lectures don't always align with the textbook, so attending class and working through practice problems is key. The exams can be tricky, but using unstuck AI alongside the textbook helps prepare. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding course.
Physics 2 is just not great class to begin with but Dr. Adams makes it so understandable and digestible. He is approachable about questions and knows how to cater to how different students learn. If you don't show up to lecture don't expect to get a passing grade.
Took SCMH 1010, material was easy, tests were hard. Hardly any test questions came from the slides/lectures. All the test questions were very specific and would take much more than the study guide he made to be prepared for.
This guy is tough pls do not take him I have never worked harder for an A and I think that only like 15% of the class got A's. Other professors have it where their tests are around 40% of the final grade while he has it at 60%. And dont get me started on the final worth 25% of ur grade and is over stuff that you do not know. His scale was 87 A 75 B
This class is definitely hard and a lot of work. It's test heavy because that's all that makes up your grade besides your lab portion. You can get a A or B if you study and put the work in. You need to read the book as well as the notes for exams. He is such a nice professor though and rounds up grades at the end of the semester.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Concepts of science should be easy but instead I spent hours studying for this class. He just reads off of slides and makes exams so hard. Would not reccomend.
My favorite professor this semester. People who are saying that his class is hard are being dramatic, and have a lot coming to them later in college. He's a great teacher and he is obviously passionate about what he teaches, which always makes class easier and more fun. I would take again any day. He also braids his beard, which is sick.
Dr. Adams is very nice. You don't need to go to class (he just reads from the slides) just make a quizlet off of the powerpoint slides and you'll do fine. No other assignments outside of the tests so beware of that. All in all not a very hard class just a couple hours of studying the days before the test.
He doesn't want to help you at all or cares about your success. He literally told a girl who asked him to work out a problem he assigned in class that he wouldn't show her or the class how to do it because it wouldn't help us learn the "physics". TAKE THE OTHER GUY NEVER HIM. His grading sucks with the majority being tests. 87 A 75 B
Me and all my classmates gave bad but truthful reviews and somehow all were removed. He is a tough grader and I dont like him. Take Merrill
Really great professor, funny guy who makes lectures interesting and helpful. Course is test heavy, but they are manageable if you go to class and study. Occasional homework was pretty easy. Labs are easy too
Adams is a pretty chill guy, but I've never struggled so much in a class before. His tests are nothing like the homework, and the questions are worded in a really confusing way. There are usually only about four questions on each test, so if you mess up even one, your grade takes a big hit. I studied for days and still ended up with a C.
Tests are almost completely from lecture material, homework is not related to exams at all. Do not miss a lecture or you will get behind fast. In class problem solving is good for preparing for exams, the lab has weekly quizzes that are usually easy. Merrill should be your first choice but Adams is a good number 2. Doesn't care about your GPA.
You have to do heavy test prep outside of class because that's pretty much your entire grade. After failing the first test I learned to redo the lecture, homework, and worksheet problems over and over because the test questions are always similar/same type as those ones. Got As on the last three. Oh yeah and basically no extra credit. Good luck.
This class is hard but shouldn't be as difficult as he makes it. The exams are pretty brutal with lots of curveballs and you have very limited study materials. Compared to the other professors that teach this class, I would NOT take Adams. As someone who has never taken a physics class I studied a week ahead of each exam and still struggled.
If you have to take a physics class at Auburn, take it with Professor Adams. His lectures are engaging, and he is accessible outside of class. As long as you do the homework, run through practice problems, and ask questions when you are confused, you will do fine.
does not do practice problems almost ever making the class theory heavy. if you cannot learn that way. good luck.
I took Stephen Adam's for PHYS 1400, Physics for Aviators. It wasn't that bad and he does a great job at explaining things to a bunch of people that never really had any prior knowledge. He holds up his end for teaching and very much so keeps himself accountable, but expects you to hold up your end as well.
The main problem with this professor is the grading scheme. It is extremely test heavy for a science class. 85% of the grade come from exams or quizzes. The other 15% come in the form of homework and labs. Would be better just to have separate lab if only it is 10% of the grade. Merrill is a lot better. Gives 30% lab and take home portion of exams.
TAKE MERRILL!!!! Grades are way too heavy on tests and the tests give so little opportunity for points while being quite confusing questions. made great grades on everything except exams and the grade shows.
He uses great examples in class. Tests are almost identical to the practice sets he gives in class. Labs are long. Good teacher, I will be taking him again for PHYS 1610.
You have to teach yourself more than he teaches you and the homeworks and exams often have nothing to do with what he teaches in the lectures. GO TO THE SI SESSIONS.
Everything was great until the final. He did not really go over what was going to be on the final during class and the only review given was a test from 2016 that had nothing to do with the final exam questions.
I can't stress this enough. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR until you are ready to give this class about 20 hours a week, and its not an exaggeration.
Show up to class, pay attention to lectures (even though some are drawn out), and study problems done and class and you will do fine. He's a great professor with good lectures, only critic was that the final was a good bit harder than his exams as him and Merrel created it and not just him so watch out for that (know more than practice problems)
Physics is hard but I thought Dr. Adams did a good job presenting and explaining the material. The tests were never too tricky, but you did have to know the material to succeed. Physics for Aviators means nothing, it is just normal physics, and if a plane can be added to the problem it will be. Overall, the class is only difficult if you make it.
Stephen Adams is a fairly effective teacher, but the course was extremely challenging. Many of the classmates I spoke with were struggling just to maintain a C average. I used Cram Better online tutoring throughout the semester, and it was a game-changer. I honestly don't think I would have done as well in the class without it.
He's not clear about will be on tests and does not prepare his students for the exams. His lectures are bad, he goes on tangents and does not cover the harder material or what's actually on the tests. He's rude when you try to go to him for help. He rounds up a lot at the end but mainly so people don't complain about how difficult his exams are.
Problems differ from what he teaches vs what is on the test
This class is super easy. Dr. Adams is really nice. There are 4 exams and your lowest grade is replaced by your final exam grade, which is super nice. Most of the lecture is just reading off the PowerPoints, but they're super detailed and you can always read the textbook. The lab is also ridiculously easy.
About 80% of my grade was worth exams. His lectures were very good and high quality. He taught you everything you need to know for exams; that being said, his exams were pretty difficult to match. I ended that class with a 75, and he rounded it to a B.
His class had very lengthy and wordy lectures that were somewhat interesting but a lot. He was very chill and no mandatory attendance. Quite easy class test weren't too bad and labs were chill unless you get a bad TA. Overall: 8.8/10
This professor is not a great teacher, he goes on tangents that are not necessary for the course, is a tough grader, gives no study guides, offers no extra credit, and two semesters of experience has taught me that whatever he says concerning exam content is unreliable. His lectures are useful, but consider also reading the textbook extensively.
Amazing lectures
Doesn't deserve as much hate as he gets, but not a great lecturer nor particularly engaging. It's kind of hard to tell what's relevant what's not and he seems to just freestyle it when he walks in the door. Find friends who have test bank access as he does tend to reuse old questions. Knowing what will be on the exam is hard but usually just the HW
No attendance, very simple stuff that you learned in middle school. How a beginning class should be at Auburn.
Good lecturer but doesn't give any study guides or homework. Overall not that hard but he doesn't do much to truly prepare you for exams. A lot of the stuff he covers isn't on the tests but getting a decent grade isn't impossible.
Decent course, tends to teach and show problems symbolically and conceptually rather than using real numbers. Just a pretty average physics course, would take again.
This class was pretty easy, and he does a good job covering all of the material through lectures and slides. I feel like this class is an easy A if you take a little time outside of class to study.
Very good lecturer and very accessible after class if you need questions answered. He wants you to do well.
Despite how he might appear, he is a caring teacher, allowed me to turn in some homework late for full credit. His lectures are semi-interesting, depends on your general interest in physics. His exams hardly ever contain numbers, very conceptual. TA's grade very hard, just go to his OH and he most likely will give you some points back.
Hard exams, homework helps though. Lectures are really hit or miss. Good at responding to emails. No curves in this class. We had a class average of 57 on the 3rd exam and he thought that was great… he's a good guy and he's willing to help you if you are stuck.
Great professor, who is well-educated and explains everything well. Lecture classes have a lot of information posted on Canvas. Explains things well in person, so it is beneficial to show up, even though it's not mandatory. Most grades are a little challenging, but not the end of the world.
