He speaks very softly so it's really hard to hear him from the back. His accent doesn't really help either! He just jots down stuff on the board not really explaining. BUY the book even though it might be optional, the book is better than him!

Aja, to put it plainly, is a tow-faced human being. He almost cost me my diploma because he screwed up on grading a paper of mine. The school had to get involved and it was a mess. Not to mention undertsanding him beyond the accent is a nightmare.

This man is a moron. Terribly unclear, jumps around subject matter, seems unprepared, dispassionate.....horrible horrible teacher. Try to avoid this class for anything more then taking the tests which are quite easy - as long as you teach yourself.

i graduated about two years ago and had this instructor for core geology. he HATES taking questions. he frowns upon "teaching," and loves to stand there and lecture for the entire period. i myself have become a teacher now (i teach 5th grade at a public school) and resent that i ever took him.

this is absolutely the worst choice you can make by choosing this professor. He is very rude, never answers questions, has a bad attitude, and never helps you. The test comes and you feel like WHAT? Very unfair and terrible

Most arrogant and most unsecure professor I've ever met. He doesn't allow anyone to ask a question, he feels threatened and totally will disregard your question. In order to clear himself of wrongdoing and to feel superior, he will put on the board complicated formulas of stuff that he memorized.

Thanks for prof. Aja i got a C-. He screwed up my GPA. The worst prof. ever, I don't know why he is still teaching. Terrible experience with Aja.

I got an A on the course, but for someone who is interested in earth science taking a class with this man is detrimental. He'll discourage anybody from taking more science courses. He is unclear, aphatetic, and boring. Good thing I had an excellent Earth Science teacher in High School. It payed off

He is as ignorant as they get, I took him because I thought I had no choice since it was my second to last semester, but that was a mistake. Even if you are a geology wiz do not take this professor since he asks history questions on the exam! I hate him with a passion and I am now contemplating how to get him back for the worst grade of summer 2005

The most ignorant, unbearably boring professor in Brooklyn College. I have no idea who gave him his license. He hates students and only wants to fail them. DO NOT TAKE HIM. It will be the worst mistake of your life if you have him because your programd said Staff, drop him immediately. Trust me even the brightest stduents fail his class

Very hard, thinks he is smart, maybe not.

Boring and insecure. He would at all costs try avoid answering any questions. He is not engaging and really he doesn't care if the students understand the material or not. I had try to speak with him but he'll always evade making appointments or having time to discuss about the topic. Thank God I had a great Earth Science teacher in High School.

He is a boring Prof. He doesn't teach you during the lab. Just give you the instruction and sit there do nothing. For 1/3 for the class grade, he also require you to write paper. THIS IS LAB!! Very unhelpful!

I will make this as clear as possible. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE AJA. I had him for lecture and lab, he is terrible, burn out and probably the least challendging professor. He sits during lab reading his paper and lectures are painfull

never take his class under any circumstances, he is disrespectful, boring, speaks very low and unclear, his tests are not easy, he asks specific dates and names not concept, or material information, he should be fired.

So try registering for Prof. Garb and getting Aja by "mistake" I think not. Imagine the surprise of half of the class. Seriously do not take him but if you absolutely must, make sure you have a pass fail option left and even then...nothing's guaranteed.

This professor is truly a nightmare. I didn't like geology going into the class, and now I hate it even more . Lecture was insanely boring, and I'm thankful I did not have him for a lab. This man is insane. He has many personal problems and many issues that are a real obstacle, not only to his profession but also as human being. Totally unapproachable, he doesn't answer any questions due to his insecurities. He should not be teaching to young people (or anyone for that fact), a total disgrace to the noble field of education.

I barely understood what AJA was saying, He doesnt care if you do well, nor does he make an attempt to help you out if you have a question. He speaks very unclearly so for those of you who rely on your notes for A's, DONT take him. he said there would be no curve-which made everybody study.but there was a BIG curve in the final grade. i have a 4.0 and have never dropped a class before. i dropped this guys class and took a "w". He's pretty bad. seems like a nice guy, but just not salvagable as a teacher. stay away!

His accent gets very confusing. Not good if you want to record a lecture. Was quite often asked by students wth he was talking about. Only two exams and two essays for the semester but exams are poorly written by him and he expects the essays to be perfect. Like, you can get a 60 in an essay by making one grammar mistake.

Dont take him. worst prof I ever had.didn't curve in my class. midterm and final are hard. everyone in my class had to basically memorize parts of the textbook.no interest in students, doesnt talk to you with respect. papers are hard, not an easy grader, and never returned our papers, always late and keeps you after class time. take someone else

This guy is just terrible. He is unclear when he speaks. His tests are hard and very detailed. He does not curve at all. I had him for lab as well and he is just awful. He does not explain anything at all and he expects you to understand his lab tests and report with ease. He is just a useless, irresponsible prof. Thank God for the Core pass fail!!

Agreed; don't take this guy at all. I took him for the summer session which includes the lab and lecture. One word can some this guy up. The word is terrible. He is just a horrible professor. Excuse the rant, but I cannot fathom how this guy is still teaching. :(

Horrible professor. I just got my grade for the 2008 summer session and it was a D+. It was nice of him to pass me (I did not really desere it) but overall, he is bad as a teacher. Take someone else.

Summer Session: Terrible at teaching but is actually a nice guy. He gave me an A in this class. I got an 88 on the midterm and I must have gotten better on the final. Regardless, just read the textbook chapters and you will get an A. I agree he is bad, but study hard.

I am really upset. I wish I can go back and take this class again. If I would have read the chapter a little more, then I could have easily gotten an A. Take Prof. Aja, he is good. Everything is in the text. Read and you can get an A without a problem. The lab, on the other hand is hard. Avoid him for lab. Overall, he is better than most.

Positives: No need to go to the lecture. He does curve in the end. You can leave the lab right after he calls your name. Everything is in the textbook. Read and you will do well. Negatives: Has an accent. Does not help at all for the lecture or lab. No office hours. No babying around. A REAL college class. Suck it up and try. Tests are detailed.

Where to begin....He does have an accent, but that is not the biggest problem. He doesn't really go by the book and if you are not the best note taker, this can result in losing important information that will be in exams. He says he curves the final grade, but I rather him give us a better guideline in the syllabus. Don't take him!!

this teacher is the worst teacher in brooklyn college. First off you can understand a word he says. He assigned a textbook that they dont print anymore. Everyone but 2 ppl in the class failed the test avg score was a 45. give two papers not hard topics but a hard grader. dont take him!

On the first day, the lecture hall was full and on our second meeting the class was half empty. It's hard to understand what he's saying. Charge balance sounded like 'check balance.' His incomprehensively heavy accent makes the non-Native English language professors sound like intensive English professors. Avoid taking him at all costs...literally.

On the first day, I walked into the class knowing 1/4th of the class would be gone by the next class. I think the class size dropped to a little over half. This professor is very hard to understand both in terms of what he's saying and what he means. Tests weren't hard if you studied the entire book. I would suggest dropping if possible asap.

Worst Professor ever. He shows no interest in his students, in his work, or in helping anyone. It's kind of scary how I got a 90 for Lab(with another professor) and managed to get a C+ from Aja's class. He is very monotone and it is especially hard to hear what he's saying in the back. His accent only makes it worse. He shows little to no interest in students' needs and expects us to know the material. And yes, his "jokes" fail hardcore.

tests are hard, labs are even HARDER! do urself a favor and avoid him if u can. i would not even recommend him to my worst enemy!

Also learn EVERYTHING even if he doesnt say it is going to be on the test because it WILL be! I got a B+ in the class and I am an A+ student, I had to work my buns off to figure out what was going on in the class

If you want to get any resources from this man you MUST demand it! It took me yelling at him a couple of times for him to provide any legible information.

I know the Geology department must be aware of this incompetent teacher by now. I'm not sure why they haven't done anything about it. Aja doesn't teach, he just mumbles a few words and he hates questions. Unless you are really good at teaching yourself, you will fail this class. This was the first and only class I ever had to drop. AVOID this man.

Was stuck taking this class. Attendance not mandatory, nothing he teaches is on the tests. Avoid this teacher. Mumbles & just reads what is on the board and provides no outside knowledge. Midterm and final. 14 pages of MC questions in which you have you find answers for online. TAKES HOURS. No leniency with grades although 50% of the class failed.

This Prof does not teach, he does not speak loud, he is rude and smug. You will not learn anything from this class none of the things on the study guide will be on the exams and you will fail or get a bad grade because he does not curve the grade. if you must take this class sit in front as i did and get ready to watch3-4 movies at the semesterEND

It is very hard to understan this professor. As soon as I took the first class i knew I was in Big trouble. He has the intentions to teach but his accent makes it difficult for the student. the exams are pretty hard and there is no make up work to improve your grade. If you don't want to be stressed out all semester long, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF.

Idk what happened to this guy but the reviews show a steady decline. He seems to not care. He doesnt even correct our labs so we dont know if what were studying is right

Sitting through this professors lectures is torture. His voice is low and monotone, and he doesn't speak English very well. He lacks the ability to genuinely spark interest in students, and he often sounds bored himself. Not a good class to take if you have some interest going into it and are hoping the class will inspire you when you get there.

I regret I took this class with Aja.. Never ever take this "professor". I wonder how a person with that terrible accent, most of the time impossible to understand has became a professor in a 4 year college?? No teaching skills at all, but mumbling all class long from power slides. The worst ever!!!

He knowledgeable about the subject, that's for sure. He has a heavy accent and can be hard to understand sometimes, it doesn't help that he mumbles the entire time either. All he does is read from slides, does not care if student are engaged. Tells us something isn't on the test but it's there anyways. Expect to learn almost entirely on your own.

Run from this "professor". this class should be fun and easy. he doesn't care, he makes it hard! first test is FIVE chapters combined, he will give 110 questions to prepare without answers! On test he will trick you with 78 questions and half of them will be from lecture, book, powerpoints not from 110 prepare questions that he gave!

The WORST class i have ever taken in my 3 years of Brooklyn college. Geology is a core and is meant to be taken for credit. You shouldn't have to suffer through this Professor for a semester. No one should ever have to go through geology with this professor. Run away.

Ok, The honest truth is that the class is boring. You can not hear or understand what he says in the class. If you have a question rather than try to help you he will be very sarcastic. Not a great teacher. He may be knowledgeable but doesn't do a good job helping his students grasp concepts. Over 50 percent of the class didn't do well.

If you have any other option... Go with it This is guy makes the Clear Eyes guy look like Jim Carey. He doesn't care if you're bored (and oh yes you will be- I guarantee it). Two exams 70 ques each- and that's it... That's how he's going to grade you.

Professor sure does have lot of knowledge and happily answers. Problem is he is monotone and when requested to speak louder, failed to do so. Reads out from PowerPoint. For exams, it's better to go over slides, than read the textbook verbatim. Recommend not to take this class.

Everybody who decided to take this class i can say "DO NOT DO IT!!!". First reason, Professor does not carry about students and speak not clearly (with huge accent ) and very quiet. Second reason, there are only 2 tests; moreover, they are really difficult and the professor grades only by them. 3 reason, if you want A or B you should study a lot.

Graduate students stay away from this guy. He does not teach but expects you to figure out things on your own. Gave many lectures on physics (poorly) in which YOU have to figure out how to solve without actually being taught. None of the lectures help you with assignments. No text book given to help and he has no interest in meeting for office hour

first couple of weeks was history of water use &irrigation etc. he just keeps talking &talking super low voice, gave a paper &graded super hard w/o explaining what you did wrong, expected you to know over 200 slides worth of info for the midterm that you had to self teach bc nothing learned from him . dropped the classed morning of midterm.

Horrible professor. The way he teaches is what drives me crazy. His slides are so dry and he literally reads from the slides with the driest voice.

Horrible! one time I had to exit the class due to a makeup test i had to take, and he literary kicked me out! he yelled at me saying you can't interrupt the class you either leave or sit down! didn't even give me a chance to tell him anything! hard tests, and reads the slides word by word. makes geology boring when it should be fun!!

He was horrible. Didn't speak clearly, mumbled, couldn't see the board during lectures and he doesn't like complaints. Horrible. I am taking the same class with Professor Guillermo Rocha is amazing . A much better professor. His class is very interesting and I actually am interested in learning about something I was not interested in.

This has to be the worst professor in my opinion. He reads straight from the slides and doesn't answer questions. His tests are so unfair, most of the questions he uses are not discussed in class and are from his textbook. He doesn't allow phones and has a bad accent. His mono toned voice will make you fall asleep. The only positive is he curves.

Run fast and don't turn back. Horrible in lecture. Mono tone everyday. Pop quiz unexpected. Changes grades for certain students. Don't take him if you are about your GPA. So much writing everyday. WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD! HE always comes strolling down the hall 10 minutes after the class was supposed to start. Constantly smells like weed and falling asleep in class. He expects you to know how to do t he labs on your own and he is no help. He is so rude to everyone and changes grades based on if he like you or not. Try to avoid.

How is this professor still teaching at BC? Tricks students into buying his book for over $60 and none of the quiz or exam questions ever come from the book, everything comes from slides. PLEASE stay away from this guy, boring and uninteresting lessons. Never answers emails; can get rude at times. Compared to other professors, he's very apathetic.

I regret not listening to the reviews. He truly is the toughest professor i have ever come across. He will never answer your emails and blames others when all his students complain about the class/test difficulty.He does not make the class entertaining and will instead just read off his slides in a monotone making lecture really hard to understand.
