i'm confused enough
Great teacher, great class. Highly recommended. If you show up class is pretty easy and enjoyable, and can be funny.
Geology was never my favorite subject, but this class was one I never dreaded attending. I especially enjoyed one discussion the class had about who should be told if a world ending catastrophe was discovered to occurr.

very tipical east coast person. seems aragent and full of himself. we learned about stuff that was not interesting and did not seem to pertain to the topic.
He will do his best to help out those students who are hard working and put forth effort in class. He also agonizes over those students who don't seem to care even though he should not. Natural Disasters - shape up!!!
out to get you
Tests are multiple "guess" and some short answer. If you go to class and participate tests are are easy. If you have a serious interest in Geology and read the book and do all the extra credit, it shouldn't be hard to get 100% or ABOVE. Most
good class, with very interesting material. if you do everything, an "A" shouldn't be a problem. he gives tons of extra credit mainly just for showing up.
A hard class, make sure you show up, go over your notes. IE "Be a good student" (I wasn't.. but I think I may still get a B. *cross fingers*)
Lectures are very interesting. He comes off as a grumpy prof, but he's really a nice guy. He gives a lot of extra credit, but you have to go to class. Tests aren't that bad, and quizes are online!!
test on very specific things when class is only 100 level
ok guy, hard tests, read and pay attention to lectures. online quizzes are nice, use the book. learn about stuff other than i thought would be discussed in this type of class. didn't understand most of it, i still don't get faults!
Hmm....he was very educational and defiantely wanted to help out anyone he could but you have to put in the effort guys.
Fascinating Course. Prof really cares about material& wants students to "get" &enjoy geology. You have to study, but isn't that what we are here for? Great sense of humor. The sap who calls him typical East Coast should learn how to spell
He a good guy. You have to keep up and go to classes. Exams SUCK. You think you did great but really you don't. Quizes are online which helps a lot. Gives lots of extra credit!!
great professor, he knows his stuff and does a great job teaching it, tests can be tricky, but there's enough homework, and easy online quizzes to make up for it and achieve an easy B
He's a ice guy. He tries to help out his students as much as possible. All the quizes were online and he encourages you to work on them together!!! The exams aren't too hard - you get to use a notes sheet on every one, which makes you study. I would recommend this class and this prof.
tests are pretty hard but the lectures are fairly easy to sit through, interesting class and very nice guy
Tests are very hard, and Hard to stay awake during his lectures, and whatever you do don't take this class
ND-the quizes are online and you can take them until you get them right so it's a huge help for studying from them. The tests are very very hard and you can never get a 100 even if you know what u are talking about. lectures are fun and entertaining...extra credit for those who go to class.
Dr. Allard is a fun and exciting teacher with lots of energy. If you go to class and pay some attention (just like any other class...) you will learn a ton from him. He's a very bright guy, and has an entertaining eastern accent :) I recommend him for Natural Dis. and Dyn. Earth!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS RUN AWAY. The overall class average in the class was a LOW C. The guy is super nice and he trys to make the class intresting but its no use the class is a TOTAL BORE and the exams are extremly hard plus you have like a zillion online quizes.
thought it would be a good class, turned into hell, should have been easy, but once your in it, you feel as though its a **** class and a waste of time
An extremely interesting class! Prof. Allard does a great job teaching it. He cares about the subject, and if you take the time to study the information, you will do well. I definitely recommend it. You will learn a lot.
Not as bad as I thought. Read, review the notes, and use the cd for practice to prep for tests. Easy a or b.
This guy made this class a lot harder than he needed to. I feel for him cuz he puts a lot of work into the class but he doesn't realize it's a GEN ED. The lab sucked the most, 2 hours long and you usually didn't finish all your work by the end of it.
very interesting class, even if you don't like geology. prof is very knowledgable, and he tells you exactly what you need to do to succeed in his class. warning, VERY moody! be prepared for class, and everything will be golden.
Great lecture but poor lab prof. He relies on his T.A. way to much and doesn't help much during the lab. He knows his stuff and is really enthusiastic (at least during lecture). Above average prof.
so hard... I had to retake the class. Thought it would be fun, but ended up being hard as hell.
Pretty hard class if not a geo major really cool prof though
bull**** class dont take, try to get into a diff sceince**** cuz this one sucks ass, he only helps the two front rows and geoscience is a damn JOKE!
this man is amazing.
Dr. Allard is really interested in teaching students about geoscience. I was confused at times, but he's very helpful. He tries his best, at least I noticed it. He is an average grader, you get what you deserve-just do the work. The online quizzes we did really helped bump my grade up. I would like to take another class with him in the future!
This class is not worth you're time for a gen ed. Take a different geoscience class. This class seems very interesting which it is, but it is a GPA killer... I dropped it. He makes it rediculously hard and confusing. This class should not be as hard as he makes it. I did learn alot in this class but is impossible to do well... not worth it!!!
Dr. Allard wants everyone to do well. I hate science and I still find his lectures somewhat entertaining. You get to use a cheat sheet for every test. If you hate science, but need something to fill up your generals... disasters is the way to go.
He was very rude to students that asked questions and required too much of the students in his class. He was also quite nasty to his TAs. I would suggest to everyone that they not take him.
If you feel like being yelled at like you are in middle school you would highly enjoy his class, he is way too picky about how students act instead of just teaching the subject. have had him 2 semesters and getting a good grade isnt impossible, just very annoying. i wouldnt recommend him
I thought we spent wayyy too long talking about Earthquakes and Volcanos even though we live in Minnesota. Barely talked about Tornados, disappointment. This was 2 years ago though..so maybe he has changed?? I got a B and i failed all his tests. Do the quizes and the easy easy easy assignments and you will be surprised how fast points add up!
He's ok, not the best with clarifying things and going through them slowly.
Overall a very easy class. Do the quizzes online and little assignments like that and you will get a B no problem. Very easy grading scale and lets you use a cheat sheet on tests. Just look at his powerpoints and put those into your notes. Different kind of teacher, but relatively easy for a science class. Highly recommended!
You have to show up to every class and do all the online quizzes you will do fine. He likes to lecture a lot, and he doesnt like to be interrupted. The first half of the class was a lot easier then the last half. He can be confusing at times and not very clear. He often confuses himself.
This guy is a jerk. He assumes that all of his students cheat on tests and skip class, and will make everyone else suffer for it. Also he turns what should be fun material into difficult information that a person should only have to know if they were getting a degree in geo science. If you miss one class prepare to suffer the consequences.

If you put the work in you'll learn a lot. If you show him respect you get it in return.
Hot in a grizzly bear kind of way. Cares about students (scheduled review sessions outside of class before finals) and is enthusiastic about his topic, but can lose patience and punish everybody for some people's rudeness. Tests can be difficult, but he allows a cheat sheet. Fun guy.
I would not suggest ever taking this class. The tests are impossible and he's very boring to listen to.
Very esy class if you come tom class. He'll even help you outside of class. Very kind and respectful if you are to him. His test's can be easy-depends on if you want to study and take notes during class.
Allard is an awesome prof! Very enthusiastic! Always willing to help outside of class, just to make sure you understand. Tons of opportunities for X-tra credit. Go to class, and you'll do fine.
This guy is a jerk!!!Will not help you at all!!! I have never hated someone more!!! The class is super boring lectures!!! Has favorites he talks to all class!
horrible teacher! Tests are close to impossible. This class is not worth your time!
this guy, knows what he is talking about, its not the easiest class expecially if your looking for an easy gen-ed but his lectures are pretty straight forward, and he tells ya up front that if u dont come to class, its your own damn fault, nice over all guy!
I had to retake this class, because, I failed first time, but that is only cuz I didn't go to class, you would have to be dumb not to pass this class, lol like me. I wish more teachers would use his teaching style. All his lectures are online, and you can take the online quizes until you get an A. Test's are kinda hard, but just study.
class is fun, a ton of work, very very hard exams and alot of work to do for it.
I thought this class would be my easiest, but it was actually my hardest. You need to go to class and PAY ATTENTION. The tests are very hard, study a lot and take advantage of review sessions before finals and going in to see the mistakes you made on the tests, you will see the same questions on the cum. part of the final. Professor is very smart.
yes, you need to go to class and pay attention, but if you do it's pretty easy, tests online very interesting and a great guy

I wish more teachers would teach like him, he actually connects with the students and is easy to learn from, easy grading scale and a lot of quizes on line. The only think that sucks are his tests. He has 5 possible answers for every question and sometimes they seem like they are allthe same. But in general he is helpful and its not to hard
This class was one of the worst classes I have ever taken. The professor was rude to his TAs and students. The tests are way to hard. Taking one of his classes makes you feel like you are taking two for the amount of work that you have to do. I would not recommend this professor for my worst enemy.
Although he is a tough teacher he definately knows what he's talking about. He has been my favorite geos teacher so far, and as a TA for him, I just want to say that he has never been rude to me nor to any other TA that I know.
He is a very good teacher. He knows his stuff, and he is very passionate about what he teaches. He can come off as a hard-ass, but that's only because he wants you to do well. His classes are very interesting and the tests aren't hard if you study. He has a great sense of humor, and tries to make class fun. Highly reccommended!!
Dr. Allard is a great teacher. He makes it easy to get a good grade. Our class has the same number of A's and F's. The people that complain about him are usually the people that sit in the back of the lecture hall and mess around on their laptops. Some of the questions on his exams are worded oddly, but they are in a minority.
very mean, complete ass, but a good in class professor
Listen and Study and class is not that bad. Would recommend this class.
if you take this class, just read and show up, quizzes are online, exams are same questions as the quizzes, just listen and be a student and youll be fine
This man somehow makes geology fun. He is always entertaining and helpful. He genuinely cares about his students.
He is really nice and trys to make lecture fun. If you study his powerpoints before the exams, you'll do fine!
Here's what you need to do. Show up everyday; don’t be on the internet, unless you are following his powerpoints. Online quizzes are easy, occasional homework only happens when he gets mad because half the class isn’t there, and it is EASY. Tests aren’t bad. He has a short temper for people talking while he is talking.
He is a good teacher but you have to attend class! He randomly gives out extra credit quizzes for paying attention and they do help your grade! He works around the student and tries to make class fun. I would recommend taking this class!
Pretty average over all. The tests are not hard, but they're mostly fair. It isn't easy. I got a C, but I can't say I'm all that bitter. He's a cool guy, all right over all.
Good professor. Knows the material well and delivers it clearly. As with any class, if you show up, pay attention and do the work you will do fine.
Smart guy. Gets annoyed when people don't show up. Tests are kind of hard but if you study and do your cheat sheet then you should do well.
Cant learn anything from him, just an overall bad teacher. Dont take his classes
Awesome teacher! Must show up for class, the lectures are very interesting so they help you remember the material, and he has lots of great sidenotes relating it back to things going on today! If you rate him a bad teacher, it's most likely because you didn't show up for his class and still expected him to give you a good grade! Extra credit often!
I dont' mind the class. But he said not to hesitate to come talk to him and after the first time I went to talk to him, I hesitate now. Its a 100 level course that feels more like a 300 level course.
great professor, i recommend everyone to take a class with Dr. Allard
He is easily irritated by students seeking help. He has punished our class, as a whole, for his personally produced confusion. L my V.
This class was very easy. Allard gave so many extra credit opportunities that it felt like a high school class. The beginning of the semester he starts off a little shaky on what you need to know, but as the year progresses it is more obvious what you SHOULD know for the tests (which are EASY). I would recommend Allard any day!
Allard absolutely loves what he does and he shows it. He is a very inspiring man and will get you see that Geology is not only all around us, but very interesting material! Since he is a good teacher, he knows who is trying and who isn't. He has high expectations because he wants to prepare students. Great personality, hard but fair grader.
This class was a handful. So much work for a 100 level class. He's strict and demanding, but will hear you out if you have issues. A lot of pop quizzes in class to make sure you go and pay attention and his exams are hard. I wouldn't recommend this class. Not only was it stressful, but I didn't really learn much.
He is honestly the worst professor I have ever had. He is extremely rude and does not help if you go to his office. The class and tests is easy. The labs are a little more difficult. If you could take the class with someone else I would greatly recommend that.
EXTREMELY rude. Makes you feel stupid for asking a question. Lab is difficult and confusing. He seems very disorganized and absent-minded. Tests are hard. Assigns too much "busy work." Prepare to spend all of your time for this class. I've never had such a disrespectful teacher before. He treats us like we are stupid and trying to manipulate
You would never know that you were in a 100 level class. Avoid class if you can. A lot of time consuming work is assigned and tests are hard even if you study and try hard.
My main issues with Dr. Allard are: he spends a lot of time ranting, is extremely scatter brained, makes multiple mistakes on tests and, on top of that, expects us â??cut him some slackâ?? since he â??finished putting the lecture 10 minutes before classâ??. I suggest avoiding him.
Very unprofessional. He spends most of his time being paranoid about people cheating and does not prepare you well for tests. Makes class EXTREMELY difficult for 100 level course.
Though Allard does have a tendency to ramble, his passion for his sunbject can really make up for it if you are open to it. For a 100 level course, it was a lot of work; and the labs are hard. But if he sees that you are trying he will grade accordingly.
This was by far the most difficult 100 level course I have encountered in my 4 years at WSU. There is a lot of busy work, quizzes, etc. Allard himself is extremely paranoid of cheating and impatient. Tests are a nightmare as he, on average, does not provide much indication of what will be on the test or what is important. I couldn't recommend him.
Worst professor that I have had at WSU. Breaks the class up into groups for presentations in a lecture class of 150 students! Very unclear about what he wants for assignments or the project and then grades way too harshly. Also does not tell you what is going to be on tests. Do not take.
Show up and go to the study sessions. If you pay attention and take notes you should get an A. Cheat sheet for all tests and lots of chances for extra credit. Hard class but if you put in the time, you'll be fine.
(lecture only) Prof. Allard is not given enough credit. Yes, there is a lot of work and sometimes he gets cranky, but we all do. All that work is the reason I learned so much. he is very knowledgeable. I found the material interesting. Quizzes all had 2 tries so I got 100% on most. TONS of extra credit too, sometimes just because you came to class.
Dr. Allard expects way to much of a 100 level course with 150 students. The material is interesting, not even hard, he just expects you to learn so much. He is often cranky, upset about students not putting in time, but then complains about how he only had 10 min to prepare the lecture or lab and often many thing are missing. Would never retake
This class is a bit difficult only because so much material is crammed into one class. Professor Allard is very fair about grades though. Expect a pretty steep curve for every exam, plus he lets you have a whole sheet of paper as a cheat sheet for every exam. I really didn't think it was as terrible as people say
He is very strict on people being in class. He has lots of funky rules that you have to follow before you leave sometimes.. For example, he'll have the class submit something online during class and we can't leave until we do so and he closes the time almost immediately after class. He'll know if you cheat. He's intimidating but grades okay.
Incredibly rude, unapproachable, disorganized, and holds high expectations of students without providing the materials always needed. Makes it clear he doesn't trust students and gets upset when emailed with questions. Provides a cheat sheet during test, but that's the only positive thing I have to say.
Dr Allard may have been the most unorganized and dramatic teacher I've ever had. One week he would say one thing and the next lecture he would take it right back. Also was cranky often. If you take both the lab and the lecture expect to be doing a ton of work. The nice thing was he gave lots of extra credit chances and cheat sheets for exams.
Honestly, I don't have many complaints with this class. He does online D2L quizzes to pad your grade, so if you do them, realistically you'll be fine. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he'll sometimes give extra credit for showing up, so it pays off.
He is a very hard professor and expects so much. He is cranky and expects you to know everything. I took his lecture and his lab and you need to be prepare for LOTS of busy work. Wouldn't take him every again.
Challenging professor and class. He expects a lot from you, but if you show up and do the work and be committed, you'll be fine. Just study learn the material. Took lab and lecture. Put in a lot of time. I thought he was decent as a professor. He loves what he does, but can be very sarcastic.
I really feel like I learned a lot in this class. He has a lot to cover so prepare to put some time in. You get a cheat sheet for tests and he drops the lowest test score. Overall he could be a little scattered and sarcastic but it made class more interesting! I wish lecture and lab would have been more closely tied but it didn't cause problems.
I took this course thinking that it would be an easier option than chem or bio. I was very wrong. He speeds through lecture and often leaves the class confused. He will flip to the next slide/topic, and I will see the shared disbelief on the students face's sitting around me. And don't even get me started on the lab. He's a cool dude tho.
Very unorganized professor, especially in lab and is not very willing to help, he rushes through his slides and gets mad when students dont do well on exams because theyre hard and he doesnt explain things well. He makes it easy to pass, 85 and above is an A, drops one test and gives extra credit, but he just makes it hard to want to listen to him
He doesn't mess around. Don't talk during lecture.
Not the worst, far from the best. Lots of quizzes. Gives lots of extra credit.
GEOS 103 Natural Hazards. I enjoyed the class. Everything was easy to understand and interesting. Most everything is online, but there are still assignments that need to be handed in during class or to his office. Lots of quizzes and they all have extra credit. Every few class periods he would go on a 5 minute rant about people not paying attention
Most people that I know didn't like Dr. Allard. But in my opinion, he was a good teacher, as long as you paid attention in his lectures and you studied for the tests, you would be fine. Attendance is not mandatory, but it would be hard to get a decent grade without going to the lectures. If you do the homework and pay attention, you will be fine.
I took Natural Disasters with Professor Allard and it was not what I was expecting. I thought that this general education science class wouldn't be too difficult but I was wrong. It ended up being my hardest class for the semester. The lectures are long and boring. We learned more about earth science than natural disasters.
I took Natural Disasters and it was difficult. You want to be ready to have a lot of quizzes as homework, reading and even quizzes during the beginning of lecture. Test are difficult and require high attendance to lecture and lots of studying succeed. Also, you should constantly be checking d2l everyday for quizzes put up so you don't miss them.
I took Natural Disasters with lab thinking it would be easy and interesting. I was very wrong. Prior to lab each week you get a long pre-lab, once actually in lab you get a thick packet that he doesn't give any instruction on. I owe my life to the TA's in this class. You have to know a lot for the tests, but you can also use a 1 pg cheat sheet.
Allard seems a bit unorganized at times, and his lectures are either very dry or very interesting. A textbook change made this class a bit more work than what most of the class believed, but Allard had lots of study guides that help. I passed with a B using half the effort of my peers receiving an A so it's not the worst.
His lecture class isn't too bad.. lot of at home quizzes (answers online) but gives extra credit. I would not recommend taking his lab, though. He doesn't teach anything in lab and just expects you to figure it out on your own. He is very unapproachable and makes you feel stupid for not knowing something. Take a different lab if you can.
Not an easy gen ed, tons of busy work (Online quizes and homework). Lectures are very boring and never lets out early. Super paranoid of cheating. Easy to get A but class will drive you insane
Dr. Allard is a character, he makes lectures interesting. There are a lot of quizzes and worksheets, if you keep up with all the work then you should be fine. Labs are easy show-up and finish the lab. Most of the material is covered during lecture, some is covered in the book.
Prof Allard is an interesting man. When he is having a good day, his lectures are amazing-but that rarely happens. There is a lot of homework and online quizzes, but they are not to hard. Tests are very easy with extra credit and you get a note sheet. Lectures are boring, but Allard tends to call people out in class, so thats fun I guess.
I would take him again for sure. at the beginning of his natural disasters class, I was going to drop because I was so worried about not passing with a good grade but, as the year goes on he adds in so many bonus points and also a bunch of quizzes that can boost your grade A LOT! also he has a bunch of dad jokes which is a plus
Sometimes a funny guy but other times he is crabby. Attendance is not required but it is worth it to go. Lots of reading and quizzes online but those boost your grade. Most labs are horrible cuz they will take you longer than the class time to finish. Could be better could be worse. Overall, easy A class to take for lab if you put in minimal effort
Just don't take him if you don't have to. For someone that isn't good at science, this was not an easy class. Even if you are good at science just don't take the class. There are other options. Nice guy outside of class but in class.. I don't recommend.
Lecture can get very boring, he goes through slides WAY too fast and doesn't fully explain things. He can also be very cranky & constantly complains about absences (even though he doesn't require attendance), and people packing their things up to leave before he's done talking. This class was NOTHING like what I expected - I'd never take him again.
Allard was an okay professor. He can be funny sometimes, but most of the time it seemed like he was mad at his students. His lectures are very slow and boring but you need to pay attention to them because he has lecture quizzes. He assigns A LOT of online homework assignments that are easy but time-consuming. Be prepared for a lot of work.
He speeds through lectures & for a gen ed class, expects you to be a geosciences whiz. It was very tough material, lots of worksheets & quizzes. He skips slides very fast and it's difficult to absorb the information. Doesn't have an attendance policy but gets mad when people don't show up. Super paranoid about cheating. I had a 4.0 before this.
Dr. Allard is one of the worst professors I have ever taken. When I started this class I was excited to learn more about nature however, the extreme amount of coursework given makes everything he says grueling to do. If you enjoy doing nothing other than Natural Disasters this is the class for you, but be prepared to fall behind in other classes.
Be prepared for a million homework assignments and near impossible tests
He truly is a good professor with a kind heart, he can seem like a grumpy old man here and there but honestly that is because he is not very good with technology and it frustrates him. Be patient with him and believe me you will see the good in him. It is a VERY work sheet heavy class, but if you get into a rythem youll be just fine.
Hardest professor taken thus far. Very unmindful of students and what they are going through with COVID. Tests impossible.
I have to be honest, this class makes you work hard. It is fairly difficult but... I learned so much from this class and from Dr. Allard. He gives a lot of assignments but the assignments are necessary to learn the material. Dr. Allard's courses are challenging because he truly cares for his students and wants us to learn the content and do well.
You'll have someone talk at you while expecting you to know everything immediately. Grumpy when it comes to tech. Big on integrity. You HAVE to listen during lectures because a lot of the material comes out of his mouth and sometimes forgets what he says. Really big class usually. Attendance isn't taken but SHOW UP... trust me. Tests are not easy.
this is by the far the most disrespectful teacher he was so disorganized oh my god! he would fly through the slides barley could get a sentence out without talking about himself the testes also are just souly from your notes that's your study guide. 0/10 do not take it!!!
WORST PROF. EVER!!!!!! so rude. no heart. a mess of a teacher. he needs to be fired holy crap. he is although a horrible teacher he's a rude person. He told me he would withdraw an assignment because someone I know pasted away and a week went past and said its on me I didn't get it done. such a disrespectful/rude man. just dont take it
