Go easy on him, he's still getting in his flow
took him for 3 history classes two american indian classes and american frontier great teacher highly reccomended nice sense of humor makes sure u understand the subject emphasizes things on the test
He is kind of new and is still trying to find his footing. Study hard for the tests. He is a nice guy and will tell you exactly what is on them. Don't try and learn all the terms because it's too hard, try and guess which ones he will put on the test.
Im sorry, i dont mean to be rude. He is boring, corny, and shouldnt be teaching. He is all over the place and you will think by him being young he would bring more excitment to the class. I dread going to the class. His teaching methods are ?? im
His exams are very hard. LOTS of notes so you'll have to go to each class so you don't miss anything.
he's a nice guy, very boring, but gets information across. lots of notes, study those for tests. his tests are very detailed... and hard. a lot of reading, a lot of homework. u have to do these journals which are time consuming and require thought.
He's a nice guy, it's true that he's boring, but I actually learned something from the course. All you have to do is study hard for the tests. He only gave like 2 during the course though, so it's not that bad.I got an A- in his class without even trying.
Really funny but not in conventional way, weird funny
great teacher
Nice guy.
So cute and so funny. His dorky sense of humor is completely endearing. And the course material was really engaging. Good selection in books, good mixture of lecture, group work, and film supplements.
A lot of reading and several books involved.
He is very borning tests are long and hard. Does not bring anything to the class. First two weeks did not even learn any history, talked about nothing made it more boring!
he is pretty dorky with his jokes but knows his history facts. His exams are pretty easy if you study. His lectures are boring as hell but just go and get the credit for class and it's only a semester!!

I love his class. Yeah at times it can get pretty boring, but its history what do you expect? but i would definately recomend taking his class. He is a really good teacher.
his class is very good. His lectures are detailed and he gives a lot of hand outs. He explains himself well. We do response papers which are easy and the tests aren't really hard as long as you prepare your self. He is really nice too!
Just go to class and you will pass. His test are all off his notes. Go to class you at least get a C cause you can't help it but know what he is talking about fun easy class if you are instread in American Indians.
alright
Good professor, easy class. Just show up, take notes and study a couple of nights before the exam and you'll get a good grade.
nice guy! great sense of humor
I took this class in my first semester at Southern and loved it! Professor Amerman was one of the best teachers I had that semester.
Very good but challenging professor. Most exams require detailed essays and short answers for full credit. His lectures are very informative, and his handouts and very effective to help with studying. Great personality and teaching style.
Prof. Amerman's class was great! His lectures were could kill you with boredom, but if you talk to him once during class...guaranteed A. I like his class.
Very intelligent and fair. I am really happy with the curriculum and its presentation. He has a dry Midwest sense of humor that is very enjoyable. Glad I am taking his class.
this class was pretty boring but he is really nice.. nobody really speaks up in class but he likes it when you do.. grades pretty well too
Great guy, very helpful with students just talk to him very down to earth guy. Pretty easy class just show up.
Nice Guy, but horrible class. Incredibly boring and no1 can stay awake! He is very helpful and a nice person, but it is hard to focus.
extremely boring! i often times got so annoyed with him that i would walk out of class. He talks to you like you are in grammar school- news flash- this is college!!
Hmmm... I loved this class!
Very nice guy, but way boring!! Material was boring and class dragged!!!

Love his geeky sense of humour (comparing Spanish conquest to Star Wars!) His class was easy, but there's always opportunity for a challenge IF YOU SEEK IT OUT. That means going beyond the easy answers and elaborating/contextualizing further. And, I think
Kind of boring... he spends the first week going over the syllabus. Overall it was a good class. An easy A. He's such a dork but he knows his stuff.
this guy is good.. go to class do the reading..he's hillarious cause he makes terrible jokes and makes fun of himself.. really a good guy..had him.. still talk to him..he cares
He is boring, but if you actually follow along it's not that bad. Be sure to drink your coffee if it is an early class because he WILL embarass you if you clunk out. Pretty good sense of humor, a bit wordy. The one thing I REALLY liked about him was that his grading and procedures were very clear and organized (It was easy to figure out your grade)
The most boring class ever. He spends time talking about absolutely nothing related to the material. You can do the readings at home and NEVER attend class and still do the same on exams. Treats everyone as if they are a freshman.
ive only had one class so far but he seems like a pretty funny teacher and a nice guy. i hope this class turns out to be a good one and worth taking.
he is a good teacher knows what he is talking about.... gives lots of handouts so you need to be in class to get them....gives weird notes but helps a lot. this class is worth taking
Overall good teacher. The only problem with him is he says umm and uhh way too much. In a 50 min period he said um and uh 513 times and i missed some!!!! other than that he is very into the subject and hes pretty ammusing.
easy course, go to class, read his notes and handouts. a few papers. tests are very detailed. study his exam guides for essay questions. very helpful
Professor Amerman is an awesome guy! I got sick for a week and he really helped me to catch up with what I missed. I hated history before this class and now I am I really interested in it! He is a great teacher!
class was easy.. just take notes and pay attention
so far, he has been a good teacher. Very engaging professor. He actually seems to like history, go figure. He gets excited about what he teaches.
A teacher that gets excited about his subject. It's hard to fall asleep in his class. As said, detailed tests and read the study guide for essay questions.
Professor Amerman is an awesome guy!! He really loves history and tries to have a personal relationship with all of his students- willing to help anyone. Just take notes and pay attention, test are fair, make sure you know the material for essays!!!
So there is somewhat a lot of reading but he tries to hard to make history fun. It works. I never had a more interesting history class. He knows exactly what he's doing and grades very fairly. Tries to teach as much as possible. Funny guy, always making jokes. Always in a good mood. Would definitely take him again.
Best History Prof. to date. You need to work in the class to well, but thats normal for any history class. I advise reading the material before class, helps alot. Exams are simple, and so are the papers.
Took American Indian History with Dr Amerman. If ever there was a professor who tells you what he expects and then follows through it is Dr Amerman. Beware if your grammar is not good, he is a stickler for good writing.
The class isnt really that hard just realllly boring his voice puts me to sleep!
Boring in class, however a nice guy, tests are easy if you study. Really loves history and wants you to love history as well.
He is a good teacher but tough...in order to pass tests and quizzes study is a must! you can slack here or there but it will hurt you in the end. He is very funny....and in my class he always trips and almost falls down the stairs. Be aware and keep your ears and eyes open because he could and will call on you at any minute! very helpful..kinda cut
His jokes are rediculous. I thought he was really funny. A few things though, DON'T SLEEP IN CLASS and DON'T USE YOUR CELL PHONE(calling and/or text msging). He will yell at you and humiliate you for both. He calls on people at random so you must attend class. You must study in order to do well. Random quizzes. Easy going guy who knows his stuf
Enjoys making bad jokes & calling on students at random- make sure you read! He'll try to embarass you if he knows you haven't. If you don't go to class, he WILL give quizzes to screw you over. Tests aren't bad, but he DOES NOT give full credit for essays. EVER. Don't expect 100s here. Slow with correcting papers. A bit boring, but he knows a lot.

One of Southern's best. A genuinely nice guy who really cares about his job and puts more effort into teaching than you will ever have to put into his class. No cakewalk, but he spells out what is required of you and if you show that you're interested and putting in the effort you are certain to do well.
Hes a pain because he randomly calls on people but as long as you do the reading and show that you're making an effort you'll be fine. He is extremely corny and obsessed with history
Amerman is a great professor. He is very straight forward about the work you will be doing in his class. Very easy class and he even gives you a study guide for exams. Highly recommended.
Prof. Amerman actually made learning history interesting. A very nice man whos classes never got boring. Fair on grading, and filling out the notecards for exams definitely helped. Follow along with the readings bc it will help also on exams. attendance isnt mandatory, i skipped a few classes and was still did well.
Prof. Amerman was one of my favorite professors for a history class ever! He's really funny & constantly making jokes. Notes & the book are important. He gives study guides for tests, so it's easy to study. Only a few papers and 1 major one, but he's a very fair grader. I loved this class so much I'm probably going to take the continuation course.
He is sooo funny. I absolutely love this class. Although, he tries too hard to be cool, its funny.
I hated history before his class, but he made it so easy to remember and interesting to pay attention. His jokes aren't great, but that's what makes him so funny. Take his class, you won't regret it as long as you keep up with the readings and study for the tests!!
Amerman is a great teacher. Always willing to help and strives to make Inquiry interesting. Makes alot of jokes that aren't always funny, but thats what makes Amerman a stand up comedian before the class. Stays on topic. Takes attendance at random and will call you out infront of everyone if your caught texting. Goes by a course packet he compiled himself. A lot of essays but few exams. All in all, great, kind and fair teacher.
Great class, excellent professor. Lectures were more like discussion groups, which made the time fly. Dr. Amerman is a really nice guy and obviously loves teaching. He is the RARE combination of a scholar who is also a good teacher. Take any class with him and you will learn a lot.
A kind man, he'd rather discuss ideas and whatnot. He tends to say "Um.." a bit too much for comfort. He's a good fellow, and his papers and exams were NOT hard. He teaches to his tests!
I'm all for a fun learning environment and a discussion group to accent it. This 200 person lecture hall is not the place to do it. His slides are disjointed and, well, too organized. I do not like referring to a novel in reference to a simple statement by him ( please refer to the TYCO supplemental packet). Tries WAAAAY too hard to be funny.
uses powerpoints all the time and tells u that u need to look in coursepack and the other book to read. tests are nothing like what he teaches in class. very boring. dropped class cause i failed first two tests cause of nothing that was on the test. some stuff ull remember from class to use on tests but overall not a good teacher
Very good professor. I don't like American History, but the time in class flew by. He has a very goofy sense of humor, which I found enjoyable. 4 exams, multiple choice and VERY easy if you actually attend the classes.
Very funny, very easy professor. He gives you a study guide for all of the exams on your first day, and on a lot of the exams, he gives "gift" questions (the right answer takes no thought). Just 4 exams, all multiple choice. Great choice to get rid of that history requirement.
I like this professor even though I failed two of my first exams. I didn't withdraw, but I studied and ended up getting a B on my 3rd one & C on fourth one. Class +200 students, doesn't take attendence. You need to take your time to come to class, pay attention, and study! Four exams total. Really fair & funny. Always willing to help when I emailed him. Love him!
Lecture Hall class of 200+ students. He didn't take attendance but you need to read the book and take the notes to pass his tests. i never studied and received 3 B's and 1 A on his tests. He makes History more enjoyable, and is overall a great teacher.
Gives many assignments. Hard grader. Does not use his time effectively- repeats a lot from previous lectures.. However, it was fun class, interesting topics!!!!!!
Summer course, good intro to Native American topics. Good lecture, well organized, self deprecating, funny (?), you may learn to write better. Worth the money and effort. Nice guy, too.
Very entertaining. Very willing to help you out. Stay awake, do the reading, take notes and you will pass this class EASY and maybe even start to care about history too! He makes it interesting and engaging.
Professor uses powerpoint to present course material and is enthusiastic about his presentations. Good sense of humor. Don't disrupt his teachings. Pay attention, he isn't that boring. Buy the book because you will need it.
This guy is awesome. He does powerpoints, and as long as you listen and take notes you will do fine. He condensed the information in a way that we will be able to understand. He tells corny, but funny, jokes. He is really nice. The tests are really easy. I definitely recommend him!
I only took this course because it is mandatory. I am in a lecture class with 200+ students. He teaches off powerpoints. He tells corny jokes to try and keep the class somewhat fun. Since i'm in a lecture all the tests are multiple choice. No HW or papers. If you go to class and look over the readings the tests shouldn't be difficult. I recommend.
big lecture class. not hard though. paying attention, attendance, taking notes, and doing the out of class readings is important. his course packet tells you exactly what you need to study/read for each test. multiple choice. wasn't hard at all. i hate history but like this class.
Easy A, definitely recommend. However I hated his organization. Uses alot of unnecessary material and doesnt get to the point. Takes 5 min to go over pointless things like bring a pencil for the test. Waits until the last min of class to let you leave. Will sit there and watch his clock until class is officially over but easy class.
He's easy if you come to class and take note and read the material. If you dont come to class you basically fail, cause he doesnt only use the stuff in the book but what he says in class. But it was an easy class :)
He is ok, but he takes too much to get to the point. He keeps summarizing previous lectures. He does not like when students are late, he even lowers students grades for tardiness.
Professor Amerman was a great professor. He was good at keeping lectures interesting and involving students in them. He could be HILARIOUS at times, and you wouldn't expect it from him. He's always got a great attitude and seems that he was thrilled to be teaching American Indian History. If you can have him, definately do it.
Amerman's a very nice, easy-going professor. He usually spends class repeating most of the reading, and he doesn't grade too hard. It wasn't a challenging class, but I did learn some important and interesting things. I would definitely recommend his class.
awesome professor and fun class. Just with the papers he is pretty big on grammer but lays it out so its hard to do bad on them. Pretty sure I got a B+ in the class and I did average on the papers. But take the class, very fun!
He's pretty easy going. I liked him. There were 2 papers, a midterm and a final. They weren't that hard. He does grade pretty harshly on grammar. But overall I enjoyed his class. If you can, take him.
Good teacher. Nice, funny. He pretty much tells you what you need to study it's easy to prepare for the tests if your looking in the right places.
Steve Amerman is an excellent teacher. TAKE HIM FOR THIS CLASS! He is hilarious. The first note he had us take was "History is NOT boring!" Make sure you take notes because he tells you a lot of info that won't be on the slides. He wants to help his students any way possible. If you have an issue he will help you whether its on history or not.
Loved him! There is only four tests and a few journals. He counts attendance towards your grade so don't miss class. Tests are easy as long as you take basic notes. Tests are multiple choice and he gives your study guides outlining everything on the exam. Pretty easy A if you work and guarentee B if history just isn't your thing
TAKE HIM! 4 exams all multiple choice and very easy if you study. He gives study guides outlining everything on the tests. Go to class he counts attendance towards grades and don't forget to do the journals. Easy A and if your not good at history easy B
His teaching style is just amazing! DO: take notes, read and know the material, he goes over the material and makes it interesting and inspirational. He describes history and one lives it! Exam outlines are given. Be in class cause any main event happening will be covered, so it'll be in the exams (i.e. Boston Bombing). Exams are straight forward!
Professor Amerman is a great teacher. He is very organized and knows a lot about the subject. As long as you pay attention to the lectures and take good notes, this class is pretty easy.
Dr. Amerman is a great professor! He gives outlines for the exams. Be prepared to buy the book and do the readings. If you come to class, participate and hand things in on time, you will pass. He cares about his students on a personal level and is always willing to give extra help to those who need it.
Professor Amerman was the only professor that I've actually given a gift to at the end of the semester. Show up to class because your attendance is always being marked, and listen to his lectures, which he makes interesting. Took his early class instead of a later class with a different professor, and I didn't regret it for a minute.
Professor Amerman is incredible and such an easy A. He really wants his students to pass and enjoy the class. He is extremely passionate about history and tries to be as interesting and interactive as possible with the class. He isn't one of those professors who doesn't care about his students, he truly is a great professor
its literally impossible not to do well. 4 exams all multiple choice, on exams he literally gives you like 2 answers by saying "hint pick this one" next to it. The class is boring, hes kinda corny but means well. If you can last through the boredom then take him. Gives you a plan for how to pass whole course and tells everything u need to know
Professor Amerman is a great professor! His lectures are very clear and thorough. There are 4 exams and 1 short paper. The exams are all multiple choice and the questions are based on his lectures and the reading assignments he assigns for homework so make sure you read them and show up to class to take notes. He really tries to make sure students understand the material and do well in his class so don't be afraid to come to him for help if you're ever confused. He's a cool guy so take him if you have the chance!
very nice professor. lectures are easy to follow and straight forward. 4 tests (50 questions multiple choice) very easy tests. 1 paper thats super easy and a very easy grader. basically show up and pass
Amazing professor. If you have the chance to take him, do so. He cares so much about his students and goes over things in great detail. He does call on you randomly though so you need to keep up with homework. Such an easy A. 4 exams, all multiple choice, one essay.
One of the worst classes I have ever taken. You have to buy like 3 different books, not even including all of the other online reading. There is an assignment due every class, many of which involve quite a bit of reading/writing and it's a 2 day a week class. He calls on people at random too. Avoid at all costs if you are not a history major.
Most of the class is taught with lectures aided by powerpoints. He is very good at making it interesting and relateable. Try to participate. No points taken off if you can't be in class due to illness, just tell him. Overall really great class. There are assigned readings but I was unable to get the book and did fine in the class without it.
All of the material that is on the class guide/ syllabus is exactly what will come on the test. Do it for homework, and he will also give you a lecture on it. There's only one paper for the semester so you should be fine as long as you read and go to class.
I was in one of his lecture hall classes. The tests were online and open book. This made the tests easy. He covered the readings in class so all I had to do was pay attention in class and I would do fine on the tests. I recommend doing the readings if you are in one of the normal sized classes because he calls on people at random so be prepared.
tests are based off of his lectures and the readings, if you dont go to class but you read the material you will pass. if your in his lecture class, there are 4 tests that are open book and online, he also gives a study guide in the beginning of the semester telling exactly what to read and revises it before tests. good lecturer , little boring
This class may seem rough because of a 25 page research paper, but he helps you through it and makes it alot of fun. I also went through some issues while taking this class, and he let me submit my work and pass the class while only attending a few times. He is a great professor and I would absolutely recommend that you take this class with him!
Great, funny prof
Professor Amerman was an amazing professor! He would have lectures followed by a powerpoint everyday which may seem boring but he worked through them and made it easy to take notes on. His tests are based off the lectures as well as some textbook reading here and then but they're all multiple choice and very easy. Just have to show up to class!
Professor Amerman is great! He is very organized with his notes and material which makes it easier to follow along as a student. His lectures are repiticious which makes it easier to remember material for the exams. I advise that any students taking his class live by his class study guide for exam material. Overall, the exams are pretty simple.
First off, he barely teaches. When taking this course, the textbook is teaching you (readings). He thinks he's funny and he's not. He literally would not talk about history for almost the whole class period. He tends to ask the class 3rd grade type of questions. His slides are extremely unorganized. He has the penmanship of a three year old.
Professor Amerman is reasonable and understanding. Hardly ever assigned homework, just assigned readings. Never had pop quizzes, but easy exams every two weeks.
Great professor would recommend
Professor Amerman is a great guy. Multiple choice exam is given every couple of weeks but includes some silly questions that boost your grade. Good lectures and a funny guy.
He's a really good professor. He's kinda awkward but he attempts to make the class enjoyable. There's 3 tests, all multiple choice. Super easy if you show up to class. He does refer to some things that he talks about in class, on the test, so be ready for that. He's really chill and willing to see all of us succeed.
the class was very easy in the sense that all the class he would lecture, but when it comes to test you pretty much have to teach your self out of the book. lectures get very boring and half the time talks about things that have nothing to do with history.
I really enjoyed taking this professor. His lectures were amazing and his syllabus had everything you needed to know. He even had one that went over everything we did each day as well. His test were a little hard but if you read and study you will do just fine. He is so easy to reach outside of class and responds to emails very fast.
The BEST professor I've ever had! So interesting to listen to, and so caring! He cares about his students and their grades. I've seen him outside of class, he would always acknowledge me and ask how everything is going. He is very repetitive, which makes the tests A LOT easier. One thing to be aware of, is he will call on students in class.
Hes kinda awkward but supper sweet and try to make history fun and understanding. You don't need the book, although he gave bonus point to people who had it the week later. He always stayed after to answer my questions. We only had about 3 major test, 2 little writing assignments, a paper he wrote question on about a movie called glory. I loved him
He's a bit awkward but super nice and friendly! Lots of reading and stuff but the class isn't too difficult. Tough grader on essays tho.
He was honestly such a sweet professor. Would 100% take it again. His lectures were actually very interesting to listen to and not boring. Just make sure you do the journals and you will have no problem getting an A.
Professor Amerman is one of the sweetest professors I had at Southern. He made our online class seem as if it was in person as much as he could. He made jokes, and makes the subjects enjoyable to learn! If you read the text (its not long), do the journals, and participate in class, you will do well! This class is amazing, I would take it again.
He is the best teacher i have ever had and does not overwork anyone in his classes.
I really enjoyed Professor Amermans class. As long as you show up, participate, and do the journals, you should have no problem getting an A. He is super nice and I found his class to be really interesting! I would definitely take another course of his.
Very nice not a hard class
This class was very interesting. Not hard at all, only if you pay attention and take notes though. Quizes were just like the study guides, so as long as you study and take notes, you will do fairly well in the class. He always responds to emails and is very helpful.
Truly the best professor I've had so far! He's very chill and genuinely cares about his students so please do not hesitate to ask him for help if needed. The few homework assignments he gave were easy As, literally just do them. If you want to do well on the quizzes, which make up most of your grade, take notes and try not to miss class/review days
He was super nice and lenient. Barley gave any homework and went over all of the quiz questions in class. He also provided study guides for all quizzes and finals. I missed like 12 classes and he said he understood and still gave me an A for attendance. Super nice.
As long as you pay attention and take notes during class you should pass. He's really nice and will take time to help you if you need it. You do use the textbook a lot so make sure you bring it to every class.
Amerman is a very nice and thoughtful professor who is trying to bring out the joy in a history class that is required for non-history major students.
Prof Amerman makes sure to teach history in a way that connects into student's interests. He is extremely understanding of student's situations and can make accommodations if you communicate. As long as you are engaged and taking notes, you are guaranteed a high grade. Each quiz/exam he gives a study guide and goes over it.
Terrible class and professor. Very monotone voice, is hard to stay focused in class. I don't feel like I learned any history. Will post slides but it isn't helpful because they are just guides for him and have no actual information. If you do not attend you will not pass. Tests look for things he said in class and not actual objective information.
Amerman is a great professor who makes history enjoyable. Stay engaged, do the readings, and you'll do well. Unstuckstudy was a game-changer for quiz prep - highly recommend!
I took His-150 for fall-2024, it's environment history. There's a lecture each class, make sure you have good memory or are good at taking notes. His quizzes, which are essay based, correlate to the weekly journal/homework assignment, the lecture, and the books you read. Overall easy class, I was never stressing over his class. Great human being!
Professor Amerman is such a cool guy/professor. He uses a lot of humor in class, I took his 'Voices from the past' course, he is very lenient as long as you communicate with him. He likes when students participate. The class I took was easy, a journal once a week, read a short book that was around $10. 1 big project at the end and no mid-term.
