GREAT teacher! I take all his classes just so I can hear what he has to say. Straight-shooter and he will let you know if you're being an idiot. He'll make you read and write quite a bit but if you don't ditch, the class is cake.

A lot of reading and writing, but doable. He is so interesting to listen to, and I avoid missing class at all costs. I am taking him again next term.

Always fair and tries to help out students as much as possible.

Reguardles of the people that don't have a clue (↓) and give bad reviews, you will love to be in any class this guy teaches. Almost ALL of the reviews are good. The proof is there. Ask around. This instructor is good because he dosen't teach in any "normal" fashion. If you do bad in his class, it's your own fault.

Mr. A's class is an experience no one should miss out on. Hey, guys lets face it we may not share the same views with every person we encounter, but if your looking for intelegent well rounded historical argument, dude Mr A's da one! And for all you crybabies out there, ask a round; hell, he'll even confess: he hands out A's like candy!!!!

Great teacher, extremely interesting and clear. He's very lenient on due dates as well, and will always do what he can to help you out. Highly recommended.

Excellent course, lots of detailed info, he is a liberal smart-ass... This is not a class for bible thumpers. It is best suited for those with high IQs.

Great teacher, keeps class interested with entertaining lectures and jokes. I was interested in learning as much as possible about the Vietnam War and I felt I learned a lot (I wish there were another Vietnam class). Although there were quite a few essays and books to read, I enjoyed it, challenging but fun. I highly recommend him.

The best teacher I've ever had for history or any core class. The only assignments due are papers and weekly busy work. The papers a grading purely on content, so aslong as you complete them you will get an A. It's up to you to get them done there are no deadlines. DO NOT GET BEHIND

Andrews was one of the best professors I have ever had! His knowledge on the subject is amazing and he draws you in and keeps you coming back for more... I miss his class.

There is nothing ordinary nor predictable about this class! Andrews brings history to life with unusual side notes and challenges you to think about it in a way that's different from the ho-hum stuff you've been spoon-fed. Prepare to enjoy history if you take his class.

This is not a difficult class and you can do well without a strong effort, but if you want to learn about history you can learn a lot from Andrews. Classes are fun and rarely dull. But he knows his stuff. If you are conservative and sensitive about it, you might want to know there are several Bush jokes, and he is from the left.

Excellent and engaging lecturer, able to judge when his students are drifting and able to snap them back. Uses no notes during lecture and knows the material cold. Extremely talented professor whose ability is wasted at a sub-standard community college.

Greta class, you will learn a lot whether you want to or not. A lot of writing but all answers are easy to find in lectures and books. by the way, he is THE best lecturer in any class I have taken.

this man is amazing! he is so down to earth and real. i actually could careless for mideival times but he pulls you in. he is what teachers need to be! take him, your education deserves it.

Although I disagree with quite a few of Mr. Andrews personal views, he is still a wonderful instructor. I was extremely disappointed when I learned I had to take History but very satisfied in my instructor. I will be looking forward to taking his class again in the fall.

By far the best instructor I've ever had! Although he is a spoiled American who needs to complain a lot less about his government(because he is very lucky to have the best in the world), he is still the only profosser who is cool enough to have compared the viking long boats to in-laws.

One of the best teachers around, he turned a seriously boring subject into the class I looked forward to going to the most. His knowledge of the subject affords him a great range in explanations, theories and current teachings spun with a sense of humor that can only come from a wealth of information and years of experience. Going into his class I dreaded History. Now he has inspired me to learn more. I have him as the first class of the day and so I stay motivated to come to class. He is very interesting and humerous. His teaching method is brilliant and I will be taking him for Western Civilization II.

Andrews is SO awesome. I don't even need to take anymore history classes but after his 102 class I take his classes just because I want to. He is SO cool!! He has no due dates! He assigns 3 book reports, a mid-term and a final. Everything is take home and due by the last day of class. DEF recommend him for every hist class!!!

Glad to see Andrews getting the recognition he deserves on this site. By far the best teacher I have ever had. It has been 10 years since Ive taken a class of his, yet to this day I talk of him often. I dreaded history. After taking his hist 101(the only one i was required to take) I went on to take every class he taught just for fun. Hail Andrews!

This was by far the greatest experience I have ever had in a history class. All test were tack home (including the final)and as long as I took notes, I had no problem. Prof. Andrews also did a fantastic job making the historical events come to life with his drawings and anecdotal accounts.

easily the best professor i've ever had. his lecture on the battle of thermopylae was one of the most incredible moments i've had in my educational career. engaging lectures given with NO NOTES (dates and all). i learned more from his class than all my other history courses combined!

If you take History at CNM, take this teacher! Absolutely amazing. If I had to find fault with him, and believe me, that is hard, it is that he is a bit too laid back - some students were falling into the trap of having a week left in the semester, and three to four papers due!

Awsome teacher! You have a take home midterm and final. Pretty easy if you take good notes in class. He does not always take roll but you should attend to get all the information you need for the midterm and final. His class is very interesting and goes by fast. You do have to write 3 papers on assigned books due at end of term. Those suck doing.

Made hist VERY amusing. A TON of homework, lots of writing. That was the only downside, but I'm taking him again because he made me LOVE history. Very smart rancher here, haha ;)

Stephen is great. He not only knows his western civ but also knows history of pretty much everything. He can tie almost any event that is being study to a similar event from another culture. He is very helpful and is willing to work with you and your schedule.

I love this professor. Not for everybody though(if you're a hardcore right-winger, he might offend you). He really knows his history and obviously enjoys it. He makes it a joy to appear in class and makes the topic interesting and fun to learn. He is clear with what he expects and it is pretty easy to get a good grade in his class.

This class is only a lecture class but its really easy. Just take notes and you will be fine. The 3 books reports are the hardest things but you have all semester to write them.

Andrews exhibits the best of what an Instructor should bring to their courses....honest as well-as objectiveness. Andrews exemplifies being an Instructor with his antics and his demeanor. Being noncommittal, yet committing himself and his knowledge entirely to what he believes in.

Wow what a great teacher.If you like having fun while your learning,and still learn from someone who clearly loves people and who loves to teach, then I highly recommend this teacher. He's alright. Funny and laid back. spends class telling jokes and how History is a waste of time and worthless major. After explaining how we wont use history ever in the real world and how useless it is he assigns 5, 5page minimum papers. 3 book reports off the most boring books available, but totally googlable Easy, fun, funny class. recommended

Frustrated with his life obviously but doesn't stop him from making fun of himself. He is hilarious and at the same time BRILLIANT! Have taken two courses with him and wouldn't stop myself from a third one. Five essays per semester and you'll be on your way. Two thumbs up for Andrews!

Great Instructor!!! A little silly at times but thats part of the teachig passion. Very easy class. Ive taken this instructor for two courses. the second time around the book wasnt even used. A couple of essays are required but are easily graded. I earned an easy A and actually learnd. After taking Andrews history will catch an interest in you

So if you can't handle his political comments and opinions (which he makes clear) then don't take his class. Can be crude at times. But regardless, he is a fantastic instructor who makes classes entertaining and fun. Learned A LOT.

Andrews is a pretty funny guy, which is great in a history teacher, since most are incredibly boring. Unlike most teachers he's willing to cuss a bit, and understands the student's perspective on the school and course. He's easy-going with homework and tests too, making this class my favorite by far. I also read 1984 finally thanks to him.

Andrews has reinvented history class. I excepted nothing short of a boring 2 hour lecture twice a week. He leaves you on the edge of your seat looking forward to the next class. I've already changed my schedule to take his 1102 & 2240 classes. Show up, pay attention and its a gift wrapped grade.

You want to take this class! Even if you've had absolutely no interest in World History before you will be at the edge of your seat at the edge of each lecture. I found myself running home to read the text to see what happened next. Not a "dry" class.

Take him!! He provides interesting lectures - you should take notes because the tests are half notes from class and half the online textbook. I really enjoyed his class and I want to take his other history courses just to listen to him talk.

Andrews is a phenomenal instructor. He doesn't lie about history and he will give you straight answers. He make you work, keeps you motivated and interested. He makes you laugh. He may seem pessimistic however the content of History itself overshadows his world views greatly. Go chat with him during office hours and prepare to be amazed.

One of the most brilliant professors I've ever had. He's challenging, objective, makes you think critically and is not afraid to challenge your ideas. His lectures are phenomenal and moving. The Vietnam Class changed my life. He's really respectful and incredibly hilarious. He works hard to make it interesting; he's very wise. Show up and listen.

Brilliant and inspiring instructor. I seriously don't understand why people are rude to him. Lectures are enjoyable. Not many assignments so it's important to do well on them. Make sure to take good notes because you will really need them for your midterm and final and because his notes are all over the place sometimes.

I have been to five different institutions of higher learning. I have had multiple professors, few i could remember, few that have really made an impact. Dr. Andrews is not only one of those professors, he is by far the best teacher I've ever had. His wealth of knowledge is delivered with a comedic undertone that will leave you craving for more.

I've taken notice, that Dr. Stephen Andrews' lectures are nothing less than pieces of art, that have been carefully crated throughout years of experience. Each lecture is unique, and is a "Andrews" style lecture. His classes follow a smooth and well thoughtout narrative, so if you miss class, its like missing pieces of a movie. MUST TAKE

Every lecture is Epic

I have nothing but the upmost respect for him. He truly loves his work, if he didn't then he wouldn't take the time to explain things in his humorous and enjoyable fashion. If you have any doubt in this professor, then read these facts. There are at least 25 students in his current summer class (16'), about 25 show up, ERRDAY.

Mr. Andrews is a pleasure to take. He is dynamic in lecture and communicates ideas clearly and effectively. He did not stress attendance in the class I took but missing his speeches is a wasted opportunity.

I absolutely love Andrews. He makes history come alive and it helped me enjoy history more than I already do. The tests are 6-8 page take home papers which are super easy to write as long as you go to class and take good notes. Attendance is taken but never used. No power points, all chalkboard writings and drawings. Open to questions and review.

One of the best teachers at CNM. You will actually look forward to listening to the lectures. His humor and story telling make history interesting, fun & relevant. He knows his stuff and does not use notes, just uses the chalkboard to tell the story. You will want to take more classes from him. I have taken 3! You need to attend class and read.

He is super hilarious. I truly enjoyed attending this class, I never missed a class. I have never liked history but he makes it interesting to learn about it. He always made me laugh with his jokes. He gives extra credit points throughout the semester. The midterm was a ten paper long answer and the final was about eight papers long. Truly recommen

Steven Andrews was by far one of the best professors I've had at CNM. He is very clear as to what he wants for his class and he makes it so that you know what you are getting yourself into before you get in to deep so if you don't think you will be able to make it in his class you will know right away.

I have taken Mr. Andrews a few time. His classes are always very opinionated. Mr. Andrews will tell it like he sees it. He gives three 8-10 page papers, but will usually takes a 6-8 papers. You do have to go to the class and read the books to do the papers. He is hilarious and loves his burns. Honestly, I would retake his Vietnam class again.

Andrews is a great teacher. The very first day he lets you know there are only three graded assignments which include: Mid-term, reaction paper, and final. All of which are decently long papers. There is no homework what so ever and you will not need the textbook. Everything you need in that class will be from his lectures. He makes history fun!

Everything a professor should be; though provoking, controversial, opinionated, objective, and an outstanding intellectual who's deeply passionate and genuine.

If you ever thought History to be a boring topic that is because you have lacked a passionate professor. I have gotten more out of history from this one professor then any other history course I have taken. He will challenge your views if you can back up an argument with facts he will change his view. He is open to change. This was a Vietnam War

One of the best instructors I've ever had (top two). Passionate lectures. Learned so much from classes: US 1 & 2, Vietnam War. Attend class because all material on midterm and final papers are covered in class. Take lots of notes. If you do this you do not need to read the text book, do read 3 splmntl books for reaction paper. 3 papers 100pts each

If you have the opportunity to take Stephen Andrews take him! Best professor Ive ever had. Hes incredibly entertaining and informative. He made history fun to learn. I enjoyed writing the 3 papers he requires, as I felt very well versed in the subject because of him. He is fantastic!!

Took his class twice. Great teacher always had really interesting lectures and made learning clear and fun. He is very out and open about his beliefs, but is respectful and listens to other people's points of view on the subject/material.

He gives very detailed lectures and allows you to record them for your midterm and final.

Hes the best. Makes you want to come to class. His lectures are so interesting. I will recommend him to everyone I come across that needs or wants to take a history class.

Professor Andrews is a great professor and he knows it. His lectures make history come alive, and while he purposely chooses to be provocative, he is still considerate of other views and won't take it out on your papers if you don't agree with him. He knows history incredibly well, and inspired me to think about becoming a history teacher. Loved!

Amazing professor!! I have such respect for someone who teaches such a delicate subject. You can tell that he has a passion for history and teaches this particular class because he cares so much about the subject. Would totally recommend his class! Lots of reading and 3 papers but you'll learn a lot!

This was the most entertaining class I've ever had, and I learned so much. Only three papers but you have to really think and understand the material to write them. So much is covered in his classes though that its really hard to miss one. He is very up front with his beliefs but will respect yours if you respect him. Take this class!!

I see most everyone has given Stephen a 5, and I must add to that lot. Stephen is absolutely incredible. Not only does he make history something worth given a darn about, he does it with flare, with dozens of laughs, and with hard truths. He is intellectually brilliant and I could listen to him lecture for hours at a time. I am so glad I took him!

Andrews could be in stand up comedy if he werent teaching. Besides being incredibly engaging, he is so knowledgeable, challenging, and caring. Come for the lectures, stay for the updates on his dance career. He is very outspoken, but dont worry about it if you can have respectful discourse over more difficult topics. Highly recommend!!

I really enjoyed his class. I learned so much. I have tooken his class several times and if I could I would take many more. There was a lot of papers to write, but it was worth it.

Professor Andrews is a brilliant man and a great teacher! He is straightforward about his expectations and his interpretation of history. He incorporates interesting anecdotes, perspectives, and he mythbusts and underlines key points in history. He is also an incredibly kind and intelligent human being. I took all of his classes at CNM!

Professor Andrews is a fantastic teacher. His lectures are enthralling and he cares about his students. At first I was intimidated by his outspoken style, but then I met with him and he went out of his way to advocate for me. I feel in-debted to him, and the three classes I took from him helped me see my place in the world more clearly.

Stephen Andrews is one of those rare breeds of professors who somehow makes every class an utter delight (seriously hes hilarious) while also feeding you real and accessible knowledge. This guy knows his stuff. Youll not only learn but it will stick with you- youll remember his lecture on the Eurasian food package years from now. Hes that good.

Old style lectures delivered right to your e mail. Andrews tells interesting tales about major players in history with the kind of background you get in a documentary. I look forward the next installment every time. Exams and paper requirements are long but if you love the topic and writign it will come easy.

Stephen Andrews is one of my favorite professors! His lectures are so interesting that it made me want to minor in history. You have 3 assignments throughout the entire semester. They are big assignments but you will be more than prepared for them. Andrews does everything he can to make sure you succeed in his class. I highly recommend him!

One of the best professor I have ever had. I fell in love with history because of the way he teaches. His lectures are inspiring and captivating. We wrote 3 papers. He was so kind and you can tell he really cares about his students. Challenging class but an easy A! Over all I loved this class. I will take any class as long as he is teaching it!

Best teacher I have had. He does not push his beliefs. He guve you informat and has you develop your own ideas. I am looking forward to taking more of his classes. Everyone should take his classes.

If you're an avid reader and like to write then you'll be good. Lectures are about an hour and they're pretty interesting. I enjoyed the lectures. He grades fairly. I would take his class again.

Profesor Andrews was the best teacher Ive ever had. When he teaches, he really brings history to life, his level of detail is impeccable, in a way you really feel like youre there. I have taken all the classes he offers at CNM.

Professor Andrews has been my favorite college professor and quite possible my favorite teacher of all time. The class is lecture heavy and there are only a few graded assignments but hes upfront with all of this. I learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed all of his lectures. It was a challenging but stimulating class that Ill never forget.

My favorite class! definitely recommend. each week you read the textbook, take notes, and take a quiz. self paced. There are 3 books assigned to read. I love reading so I enjoyed it, but if you don't enjoy books maybe try another professor. But if you don't go with another professor, you should still do good in the class. it's hard to fail.

Absolutely amazing lectures, don't even bother with the textbook because he goes over everything you need to know in a fun memorable way. You'll read 3 books (They're not super long) and he wants your personal opinion on them so SparkNotes probably won't help. No homework outside of the Midterm, Final, and 3 Book Reactions, all are 3-8 pages.

I highly recommend Mr. Andrews. I liked his way of teaching and he responses you as quickly as possible if you have any questions. There were 3 books to read alongside with textbook.

Fantastic teacher. A little mean sometimes but not in a directed way (usually). Often speaks his mind. I really don't have anything to say that he could improve on. Gives a lot of reaction papers.

3 essays, 45 pages a week of reading. A quiz every week. (quizzes were kind of hard) a final and a midterm. I do not learn that way, so it was hard for me.

This class was the highlight of my week. The lectures were engaging and I can't wait to take the rest of the classes that he has to offer. Reading a lot is standard for any history class... the material is enlightening and applicable to daily life. He may come off blunt, but he's genuinely understanding and flexible if you show effort.

I had him as a history professer well over 20 years ago at CNM, and I still remember his lectures and he easily one of the best teachers I have ever had.

He speaks his mind and makes it very obvious the first day. He's a great man who has a passion for teaching and not much for history not to say he won't teach it in the best way possible. The lectures were fun, memorable, and hilarious. He was the highlight of my week and I highly recommend taking any of his classes before he retires.
