Good notes, essay take-home tests; grades hard, but is so funny!!!
Take this guy. You will learn, and laugh, a lot.
Great Class!
This class sucks at the end because you have to write a huge paper that really has nothing to do with the class. The tests are easy but they have a take home essay portion that he grades pretty harshly.
Lectures a lot but tests are EASY!!! He tests on chapter vocab. (matching) and a map portion. He then gives you a take home essay. His grades consit of 4 tests, including the final, and one historical movie review. I would reccomend taking him...it's an easy high B.
His lectures are really boring and though his tests are easy the take home part is graded really hard and the only reason to take notes in his class is just for that take home essay part. The movie review he makes you do is a waste of time too b/c it only counts worth a test grade and is 8-10 pages
He is very knowledgable. His class is worth taking for how much you learn. He gives review sheets, but he also grades tests very hard.
He was an ok teacher. The tests didn't have much to do with the notes you take in class. I stopped taking notes after the first test and I still got a B in the course.
Had lots of info to impart. Loved his subject and it showed. Graded very strictly but it is a senior level class. All around he is a good teacher.
he is a dedicated, organized man, but very boring. Lectures from beginning till end of class. Can you believe he got a sub on the one day he was out! Multiple choice part of the test is easy, the essay part is graded very tough. There is also a useless 10 page movie review to do. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!
Loved him! He is so funny and interesting. The class is not boring at all! He is the best history proffesor in KSU. Essays are graded hard one advice, record his lectures and once you have the essay question go back to your recording and write your paper according to what he says. Do take him!
Movie Review SUCKS!!! Tests are easy, and if you dont have an A.D.D. of some sort, his lectures are good. Nice guy, tough grader. Take him at your own risk!!!
Boring lectures, I love the subject and had a hard time staying awake. Tests were not the easiest and had to write a paper(hint: write about a person). Would not reccommend to anyone, heck of a nice guy though. good luck with this one.
His class was very hard but I learned alot! You cant miss class or you'll miss about 2,000 years of information.Learned alot with Georgraphy part and tests were in the notes. You must do your homework or you'll fail. he tries to scare you in the beginning but then is nice. Would take him again!
I took Hist of England (HIST 3350) with him, but he teaches all of his classes the same. Whereas he is extremely knowledgeable about history (esp. medieval) and is very interesting, it is nearly impossible to make an A. His tests are brutal. I would come out of class with 5-6 pages of notes, and I would still do poorly on his tests. Expect to learn alot, but also expect to make a low B or a C in his class even if you take very good notes and study hard.
DO NOT TAKE! You'd think the tests are easy, but u have to learn over 100 words only 10-15 actually on the test, a map with all countries rivers etc, and a take home essay which he grades really hard. Take this by itself, not if u have a heavy load. You do learn a lot though. Just way too much info. He doesn't HAVE to go over 5000 years in history.
Fascinating lectures. You will learn alot, but he is a HARD TESTER!!! Grading: midterm, final, and 15 pg ppr. Tests essay only. Gives you the topics beforehand. Was making a borderline A, BOMBED his final (although I wrote 3 pages for each topic) and made a C. Brother took World Civ and said he is just as tough in there. Talks fast. Open to ?s.
I took him over the summer and all the comments are true. He is very knowledgeable in what he lectures and you will learn a lot. On his tests, I thought they were easy - even the essays. Just do NOT reiterate (sp?) what he says in class - put your own opinion with it. It's better to take in summer- I got an A.
I liked his class. His test were easy as long as you came to class and took notes. There are a lot of terms to memorize, but it was pretty easy overall.
He had great lectures..very enjoyable. But horrible hard tests!!! I didn't do well and I came to class..

He knows his stuff very well but seems to expect too much from the students. His movie reviews are sordave pointless (didn't really help me learn history any better.) I wouldn't suggest taking his class unless you're up for a big challenge (especially with his exams.)
He is an incredible teacher. I loved every lecture. I highly recommend you take him. He knows everything. If you don't like Professor Bartlett it's because you're stupid.
I loved this class! The teacher was such a good story teller, he made history so interesting. I attended every single one of his lectures, because I did not want ot miss a day! Also, his tests are easy as long as you attend class and take good notes. I wish I could take him again for another class
the class is extremely interesting and he is not teaching it: it seems like he is telling a great story. A few easy geography quizes, 3 exams on terms from the book-the only time you actually need to read the book, because if you take good notes you can use them for writing your papers (3), a movie review paper as well. I highly recomend Bartlett.
Professor Bartlett is a great story teller, however, he takes himself to seriously at times. The geography quizzes are a breeze but the essay requirement for each test is not all that fun. The exams are 50 % vocabulary from the book and the other 50% a take home essay due the next class.
AWESOME TEACHER! Loved every minuted of his class. His lectures are so entertaining you never look at the clock to see what time it is! I personally have no love for history but this prof. and class totally changed my previous view on history!! totally recommend him!
Best History professor at KSU.
Make sure to attend every class, take good notes, pay attention to the details of each civilization and their similarities/differences;this is critical info.necessary for essays. Excellent teacher, fair, expect to work for your grade, no hand-outs here. Enjoyed the class very much.
WONDERFUL prof!Lecture style class, but he makes it so interesting!Very passionate about history. He gives map quizzes, and there is a 10pg paper which explains the historical accuracies about a film of your choosing(has to be approved).Even though it was a hard class,I learned a lot from this prof and I would DEFINITELY take him again.
Knows his stuff, but essay parts of test are hard.
Mr. Bartlett is GREAT! I hate history and loved this class. You don't need a book, and he explains everything like he is telling a story. You get a cheat sheet for tests and we only had one essay to write. I wish I had more professors like him.
I really enjoyed prof. Bartlett's classes. I have taken two of them so far and will definitely take another if the opportunity presents.
Very clear. Teaches from power points posted online. Uses multiple choice test and are very easy if you know the material. He loves to ask questions of specific people so know names and locations, but he doesn't ask any dates. We watched movies on civilizations and took mini quizzes on those. I enjoyed his class, but he definitely loves history!
I've taken three classes with Bartlett and hes an amazing teacher. You will learn a ton. He is an expert at his field. I would not recommend him to anyone unless the class is not in your major. His classes are full of information and missing a class will be detrimental to your grade. For his tests have an overview and also specialize in one area.
I had the unfortunate case of having this professor in a maymester class. The class was a 4 1/2 hour class for two weeks. Each class he only gave one ten minute break. When he starts the class he tells you he hates to talk the whole class and then he does. he gives one 10 minute break over 4 1/2 hours. He thinks he's God's gift to history. He lies
GREAT teacher! I had a maymester in his world history class.. he told history like a giant story. Loved the class and it was easy to know what he expected for his tests. Easy class if you pay attention and go over your notes!
This teacher has a ridiculous expectation of the average student. You must produce an essay on a topic such as the falls of the Roman Empire from the end of one class to the start of the next. You must attend EVERY single class or risk failing tests. Also, he asks you to memorize a lot of names, and is very fond of tricky questions on the test.
Great professor, very tough class but you learn a lot. Attendance is not mandatory but if you miss class you will be completely lost. Overall good class.
This professor is so hard, I attended every single class, took detailed noted and still had major trouble on the tests. He does give take home essays (which are 50% of your test grade), but they are very long & detailed, way too much for a gen ed class. Also, a ten page paper that was graded harshly. Take him at your own risk & don't miss class!
I got a B in this class and I have no idea how. I spent the entire semester thinking I was failing the class, and got a miracle B. The teacher is incredibly difficult. He has high expectations for core curriculum.
Wants you to THINK about history and not just recite dates and names. Takes random attendance and will deduct 1% of your final grade for each absence. He covers a lot of material in lecture so missing a class will hurt your grade. Quizzes are easy. Essays are detailed and the most challenging part of his course.
Dr.Bartlett. GREAT teacher. I hated history because it was but he makes it interesting and makes you want to learn about it. His test are 50% in class and an essay that is 50% out of class. Just STUDY,STUDY,STUDY!!
Never in my life have I enjoyed history so much, nor retained as much information than from this class. Yes, his tests are tough- you have to really take notes, study like crazy, and attend class. Multiple choice portion is tough, essays are doable as they are take-home. In the end, it's all worth it. Wish I could take this class again!
Really Interesting Class. Prepare to write and write and write because there is always a lot of information covered in each class. There are occasional quizzes- some of which are hard and others you'll prob laugh at for how easy he makes them. There is one Movie Research paper that has to be btwn 10-12 pgs. Really Knowledgeable and funny profesor
Probably the best teacher I have ever had. I always look forward to going to this class, he makes it seem like he is telling you a story; before you know it class will be over. You need to take a lot of notes, but its nothing too hard. Best History teacher at kennesaw hands down.
AWESOME TEACHER!
great class because you do not have to be there. Hands out the notes at beggining of each class. Test are straight off the notes. I went to one lecture class and still got a B.
Great professor! He tells the story so well that he makes history come alive. His test are super easy and the essay part of the test is just based on his lectures. You just have to attend his class and take notes. He doesn't try to trick you on the test like some other teachers do. I would love to take him again!
Class consists of 4 geography quizzes, 3 tests that are 50% multiple choice/50% take home essay, and one 8-10 page paper on a world issue. He grades very hard only because he expects a lot out of students. I made an A in his class and it wasn't hard for me (it's my major). Take good notes, come to class, and write EVERYTHING in essays and get an A.
Honestly, if history is not your major, do not take him. He grades extremely hard and looks for specific things in essays and the world issue paper. He treats a core 1000 level class like an upper level class. Take GOOD notes but don't think you'll get that easy A in a core class...
An EXCELLENT teacher! I hated history before this class but he kept me on the edge of the seat every time. His teaching method was comprised of stories that as long as u took notes detailed or not u'll do great on the tests. He did grade kinda hard on the essays however if u took good notes then the essays werent hard! Take him u wont regret it! I
He is easy to follow, and actually makes the subject interesting. As long as you listen and take notes, you can def. get an A. Take him
By far the best professor I have had while at Kennesaw. He asks very little of you (if that's what you are worried about) except your cooperation and an open mind. I would love to have him again. The material is interesting even if you are not a history person. Take him! You will learn without even trying.
Don't take this professor unless you are a history major. He teaches this class like a upper devision class, and has no respect for his students. Since he doesn't follow a book its impossible to get a good grade on his tests unless your an AMAZING note taker and don't miss a single class.
GREAT PROF! His class is hard, with 3 tests, multiple test with a big essay question. Overall, he makes history so interesting! loved coming to his class. Be prepared to write notes; his class is all lecture. Don't bother buying the book; i only opened it like once! If you take notes and study and understand the material, you will make an A!
Best professor I've had in college so far. Intriguing lecture, in depth descriptions and coherent story telling that goes with the material. Take notes and listen well. Tests are extremely easy (recall multiple choice), as long as you know ALL key words on the powerpoints (which is easy, because that is all his power points are--key words + photos)
Has to be, hands down, the best professor the department has to offer. I've taken five classes with the man. Extremely helpful and funny. You will learn a lot if you keep good notes and come to class.
Best history teacher I've ever had, going all the way back to elementary school. His classes are very interesting, and he's pretty funny. He doesn't do study guides, so his tests are a bit harder, but the class is enjoyable, so it makes up for the tough tests. Attendance not mandetory but highly recommended.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He keeps his class interesting. Everything is lecture so keep good notes and you should be fine. Essays are the hardest on his tests, but his class makes up for it. I really hope i get him again in my upper major courses if he offers it. GREAT PROFESSOR!
He knows what he's talking about. He is very passionate about his subject, and there is an extra credit assignment that adds 10 points to your lowest test grade. To be honest, this is the hardest class I have ever taken. There are only 3 tests, and each tests go over a very large range of topics. There is also an essay for each test.
RUN! If history is not your thing, Mr. Bartlett is not for you. He's very knowledgeable about history, but he teaches the class like an upper level history course. Powerpoints are mostly pictures and few words. Tests are 70 questions and an essay that he expects to be at least 4 pages long...HARD. Don't buy the text book, bc you wont use it.
He is such a good teacher! Knows so much about the subject, but it's a really hard class. Attendance isn't mandatory but go to class because he covers alot in one day. Don't buy the book, you won't use it.
Honestly, there are few who can teach history better than Bartlett. His lectures are filled with information and are very interesting. Expect to come to class and write 2 pages of notes every day, but its not that bad. His scantron part of the test is easy, but the essay is hard and he doesnt exactly tell u wat he wants on them. GREAT teacher.
He was a great professor. Extremely enhusiastic about everything he teaches and makes you really involved in the material. Dont buy the book. Tests are hard, but keep up with quizzes and take advantage of extra credit to help you. I had some hard times with the tests even though i studied a TON- but i have a test taking problem and he helped me :):
HE IS EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGABLE ABOUT HISTORY. HE LECTURES FOR THE FULL CLASS PERIOD ON A LOT OF INF. YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT HE WILL PUT ON THE TEST. THE ESSAY QUESTION IS CONFUSING BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS REALLY ASKING. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR EVEN THOUGH I LEARNED A LOT. WHAT YOU COMPREHEND DOES NOT EQUAL YOUR OVERALL GRADE.
He is an amazing professor! He is the only professor I have had that kept me interested in the lecture for the full class period (granted my hand hurt afterwards). But I learned a lot and for anyone that really wants to have a better understanding of history this is the professor to take!
Great Teacher!
Very challenging teacher. Got a C, but I deserved it. If you work hard, it IS possible to make an A! History doesn't interest me, but his enthusiasm and obvious wealth of knowledge was enough to actually make me sort of look forward to each class. Also, I think he's super attractive, but I'm into smart, older guys sooo...
He is a GREAT teacher!! His tests are lengthy and cover a ton of material, but I made note cards and made A's on all of them. It is possible!! He's sooooo knowledgeable and so into teaching, that you want to learn. I would take him again and again if I could :) Don't buy the book. GO TO CLASS. And make note cards.
His lectures are awesome. He knows how to tell the story so that it keeps you interested. He's pretty big on class participation, just to make sure you are listening. Exams are straight from lecture, so DO NOT buy the book. You have to answer one essay question with each exam.
His passion made me want to go to class. I HATED to miss his class because it was so interesting. Do not buy the book, we never used it. Take good notes because the test is off the lecture. Test is multiple choice and an in depth essay. He's not easy at all, ur effort determines your grade. There are exams and geography quizzes and 1 extra credit
This was by far one of the hardest classes I have taken in the history department. BEST lectures, and very interesting subject made me love class time. Not very clear on expectations and grades VERY harsh (too arrogant). First C ever, and I never worked so hard. Avoid him unless you like bad grades.
Professor Bartlett is great! This class was a lot of work, but not so much that you'll lose your mind. He is incredibly well informed on the material and sometimes that leads to lengthy explanation, but he keeps it interesting. Lots of reading throughout, so be prepared. Tests come from lectures; short answer and essay. Also assigns 2-3 site visits
Professor Bartlett is very knowledgeable and informative. He is very detailed when giving lecture and class is enjoyable. He is an enthusiastic professor, but he is demanding when it comes to assignments. You have to be meticulous when writing essays in his class, and trust me you will write a lot of essays. Overall, he's great and so was his class
He was cool, alot of survey type writing, wish he'd lower the number of some of the writing but, he grades easy and the class was an A for sure. Write alot and keep up with the readings.
GREAT PROFESSOR!! I had no interest in history before I took this class! He is one of the best, great teaching method!! Took him for maymester so it was intense, but so worth it. One of my favorite professors. I highly recommend him, but you do have to work hard!!!
Really interesting lectures, easy map quizzes, hard tests. Must attend ALL lectures and take good notes. Multiple choice tests with 1 essay. Essay is hard and pretty much determines the grade you get on the test. Hard class, but he knows what he's talking about. I missed 2 lectures and worked my butt off to get a C.
Okay, I am a bit late on this. I took his class in Fall 2006. Right now I am rewriting all of the notes from his class (just for a fun refresher) and learning so much!
Wow professor Bartlett is really picky about little things and makes you visit a lot of places, but you learn a lot with him. Probably one of the best lecturers I have ever had if not the best. You will learn a lot in this class but if you have a full load and a busy schedule I do not reccomend him. Because he has no compassion for missing work.
This class is one of the best history courses I have ever taken. There is a lot of work involved with this class but you come out with so much information. It by no means is an easy A but it is very possible if you are willing to work hard.
AMAZING!!! By far the best history professor at KSU. He is very helpful with anything that you aren't clear on, you just have to take the time to go ask. He won't hand you an A, but you can do it. The best part, you will learn so much! His knowledge base is unreal. Can't wait to take him again next semester.
Lots of work, but makes you understand history rather the dates. Quizzes follow the lectures, Tests mainly follow the readings from the book.
Took the online class. Quiz's and tests are tuff. You will need lots of good notes and it takes a little while to get the hang of what he talks about and what he will and won't include.
This is a teacher that will help any student at all times. His class is really interesting, and i learnt a lot from his lectures. I will always recommend his class.
Hands down one of the best professors in the HIST Dept. Tests are typical for HIST. IDs-ID the term and discuss the significance. Essay-good luck! Warning: 1) His instructions for his two papers are not clear, talk to him before writing the paper. 2) He is ALWAYS behind in material and will post very long voiceover PPTs. I'd take him again though!!
This professor will make this class interseting. His is ready and willing to help at anytime. I will recommend his class, anyday.
He is by far my favorite professor, I have taken two of his classes and hope for one more. His knowledge is astounding and his lectures are by far the most interesting lectures I have ever attended. I had him for upper level history classes and he definitely makes you work for the grade- but I view this as a plus. Absolutely recommend!!!
Professor Bartlett is an amazing lecturer. Extremely knowledable, funny, and engaging. Tests are multiple choice online and primarily from class notes and assigned crosswords. Text book is helpful but not essential. 40% of test score is from essay question which he grades strictly. Answer thoughly. Highly recommended, inspired Professor.
He was not helpful at all and his feedback on essays is so minimal that it is no help whatsoever. You must know specific names and dates for the test and class involvement is little to none.
Great lecturer, extremely knowledgeable and passionate about history, even at 8 A.m. I never specifically needed help with anything but he seemed a little distanced from the students. Tests are fine if you take good notes and the book isn't necessary. I'm a history major but this class seemed good for everyone except slackers who don't show up.
AWESOME teacher! I hated History before I took his class. He made it super interesting and I actually wanted to go to class. Don't buy the book! Never opened it once. Tests are online and pretty easy. Write down everything he says even if it's a joke. It will help when you have to write the essays for tests.
Great professor, he is extremely knowledgeable and proves it in his lectures. the online class consisted of 2-5 lectures a week, each of them 45-100+ minutes long. Assignments and multiple choice tests were easy if you take notes. Essays were difficult and covered way too much material. Good class overall
I loved Mr. Bartlett's lectures, even at 8 in the morning. He is fair and very knowledgeable, and whats more, he knows how to get the lecture material across to you, making his lectures very interesting. I felt like every class was a new installment in a story. Grades fairly and tests are fairly easy if you study your notes.
Took online class with him. Lectured ppts were WAY too long. The time invested in this class listening to the lectures alone was insane. Assignments and quizzes were a joke, so easy. The tests were average and the essay was ridiculous. He expects your essay to be at the level of a PhD historian. He expects details as if you lived in said time.
Lectures are extremely LONG and boring. They go longer than regular class sessions. If you take class with him I suggest in-class, not online. The only plus side of the online is that you can go back, pause, re-play etc. DON'T MISS ANY HW/QUIZ/TEST/ESSAY. I could've gotten an A or B but ended with a C because I missed a few hw and quizzes.
If you don't like lecture based classes, this probably isn't for you. Otherwise, you're in for a treat. Professor Bartlett is extremely knowledgable and passionate about the course. Don't bother with the textbook; his lectures are so much more in depth. Tests are open note and fairly easy, and you'll learn a lot. Take it if you can!
I've never written one of these before but I felt the need to because of this course. I took it online, and there is definitely a lot of work involved, but this is the first history course I have EVER had where I learn so much about history. And it is actually learning, not just memorizing for an exam. Great teacher and class.
Class: england till 1688. Although I am not a history major, bartletts class was quite entertaining. It is 100 percent lecture based and he does not require you to go to class but you will fail if you dont. It is very detailed oriented and their are not many fgradss but as long as you study, group studying helps alot. Then you can get a good grade.
This class was very enjoyable, but they usually ran over and lectures were pretty long-winded. However, Mr. Bartlett is a really knowledgable guy and he makes history so interesting. Don't bother buying the book, his lectures are more informative. Work hard on essays, he's a little strict with those.
Terrible class. Horrendous professor. His lectures are useless and if you aren't a history major, he will basically ignore you. You have to spend 99 percent of the time in his class doing extra work on your own time in order to finish his assignments. His grading scale is super strict and he isn't even slightly lenient. Take my advice, RUN!
Weekly Module work-Easy. Essays-Grades extremely strict. You must be extremely thorough in your answers. Professor Bartlett is extremely knowledgeable in History and fails to realize that the information stored in his head has taken years to retain. His grading system for essays says that he expects you to retain everything in 1 short semester.
NOT an easy online class. There is a lot of weekly work involved with this class, along with very detailed exams every 3 weeks or so. Extremely long videos each week, around 2 hours of listening to him talk. Very boring, but better than setting through a class as you can take many breaks! Instructor was a nice and understanding person.
His lectures are amazing; he's really good about teaching history through stories, not facts. You'll learn a lot just by listening! I recommend taking VERY detailed notes though, as you'll need these for exam essays. Also, don't skip class, you'll want your own notes to write the essay with rather than relying on someone elses. Overall, easy A!
Absolutely phenomenal lecturer! He does expect a LOT from his students, but that's college. Come to class and take thorough notes, and you'll do fine. Seriously, AMAZING lecturer!!!
Professor Bartlett is AMAZING! He has great lectures for the class Origins of Great Traditions. He brings in many perspectives and keeps the lectures extremely interesting though very long. There are occasional reading quizzes that are either pass or fail single question quizzes. Read and think critically about the lectures and you'll do well.
Bartlett is an amazing lecturer and really knows what he's talking about. If you are an auditory learner, you won't have any problem absorbing the information and really retaining it. He's very interesting and makes history enjoyable. He's a tough grader on the essays, but overall a great professor. I'd take his course again in a heartbeat.
Professor Bartlett takes a disjointed text and puts it into perspectives. He delivery style keeps you engaged. Take as much notes as possible, it will help greatly with essays and exams. He is a very knowledgeable professor who takes great pleasure in imparting his knowledge.
Professor Bartlett is one my favorite lecturers. He really knows what he is talking about. However, I did horrible in his class. All exams are tough, and all essays are expected to come from the lectures. EVERYTHING that you do for this class come from the lectures and book. This is suppose to be an 1100 level class, but he treats as much higher
I would not recommend taking this class at all. All of the tests and quizzes are online but still very hard. he is very strict on essays so you need to be in class to take notes. His lectures are extremely boring and i would never want anyone to take this class. you have been warned.
Professor Bartlett is super smart and knows a lot about what he is lecturing about, however sometimes he goes on rants and talks about one thing for the whole class. I got lost easily. Not many assignments and there are only 4 tests that are online. Very tough, and so are the essays. Hard grader. Don't know if I would take him again.
Story-time, best describes this class. Professor Bartlett is an amazing lecturer. Don't skip class. Record the lectures (and actually go back and listen to them) & take good notes. That's it. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. You will not need it, if you take good notes.
His lectures are long and the test is hard. He is exteremely smart and knows everything that there is to know about history, but you have to pay attention and take a lot of notes.
Great, lecturer but super tough grader. Also be prepared for a lot of work.
I took him for world history during the Maymester. We fit all of world history into 10 days. it was very fast paced and i took more notes in those 10 days than i did the entire previous 13 credit hour semester. He has great lectures and keeps you entertained. i would recommend him to anyone that needs the class still.
I took this class as a Maymester in 10 days. Great professor. You don't need the textbook. His lectures are awesome and you won't get bored. Make sure you take good notes.
LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. He knows everything there is to know about history. Great Study Abroad Director. He requires a lot of listening to understand everything, he doesn't mind repeating but it's best to catch him the first time around. Stay in the front of class so you can catch everything he says. You'll learn more than just the subj ur studying!
I am usually okay in a history depending on the teacher, but I don't seem to be doing well in this class. There are 3 test in the class and each test comes with an essay. He is a tough grader when it comes to the essays, so copy everything he says in class. PLEASE read the textbook or you will not get a good grade on the textbook quiz. Good Luck.
Professor Bartlett lectures are pretty funny. Make sure to not skip and go to class because he pulls his test questions straight from his lectures. Attendance also counts a good bit towards your final grade. The only tough things about his class are he's a tough essay grader and there are six textbook quizzes that cover around 100 pages each.
Toughest teacher I have had so far. Doesn't do much to help you even though his class is super hard. Harsh grader and doesn't give much feedback so that you know what you are doing wrong. Attendance is mandatory. Don't take this class if you need to have an A.
Hardest class I've ever taken. If you have the chance to take another teacher, do it. 2/10 would not recommend.
I hate history. However, he made this 9am lecture class very interesting. He is an amazing speaker. He is also a tough grader on essays so taking good notes is a must. Tests are over both readings and information given in lectures. This was a big class so there was not really any participation involved.
Dr. Bartlett is a great lecturer. He is great at taking relatively tedious or boring historical topics and making them very interesting. Expect a hard reader though, essays are very tough but multiple choice difficulty is on par with most Gen Eds. You will earn your grade here, but also learn a bunch. Attendance is mandatory.
His tests were hard, you have to read your book, you must come to class, and you must pay attention/take good notes. However, his lectures were always interesting and his test questions came from exact things he said in his lecture. The hard part was the amount of material on the test. Hard class but teaches you to study and a hard A but possible!
Professor Bartlett is no nonsense and has a very dry sense of humor. He knows what he is talking about, but his lectures were very long. His tests were based on things straight from lecture, but were so content heavy that they were incredibly hard. Lockdown browser was used for everything. No extra credit and strict attendance.
He is a really good and interesting lecturer. Now the bad part, the amount of work he gives is ridiculous. On top of 10 quizzes, 3 test, and 1 essay, he wants you to do a portfolio which is basically 10 three page papers on religious sites you have to go out on your own time & find. DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU HAVE ONLY A PART TIME JOB OR NO JOB AT ALL
DO NOT TAKE HIM!! Took him for an online class and this was probably the hardest online class I have taken. He grades essays super tough, I even asked him what I could do to improve and he was no help. Tests are ridiculously hard, so much material- lock down browser with a webcam that records. Weekly discussion boards and weekly quizzes.
Only take this class if you don't need to make an A... worst professor I have ever taken. Makes a 1000 class harder than it should be, history is not my major and he did not do anything to make this class enjoyable.
Took as an online course, very long lectures every week to listen to, some more boring than others, his tests are pretty straightforward, the essay were a bit harder and he was definitely picky when grading them (mine were usually 10 pages long and extremely detailed and I got a low 90 on them). Make sure you read the book, it helps immensely!
I took him online. This course is a LOT. There's a lot with lectures and assignments. He was my favorite of my awful schedule this semester. He was well organized, clear due dates, and easy checklists. He was super caring and understanding when it came to my disabilities and the hell I've been through this semester. He's great.
Worst online class I've ever taken. His test are lockdown browser with webcam that make me extremely nervous because I feel like I'm being watched and its awkward. Lots of material on the test and tough grader. This is a core class and I feel like I'm expected to be a profession historian. Only the test messed up my grade.
Mr. Bartlett is a great teacher and has amazing lectures. If he doesn't offer you extra then it's extremely difficult to get an A. There are 3 exams 60% multiple choice 40% 3-5 page essay. Their is only 500 points in the whole course and 300 of that comes from the exams. Don't take if you're looking for an A or if you're bad at history.
Do not take this online class. I repeat, do NOT take this online class. There is a lot of information on the test, over 4-6 chapters of heavy information. There is an essay along with every test that I never received over a C on. Simply because I left out one piece of information. The test are lockdown browser with webcam and it is AWKWARD.
The lectures are fantastic for online. The problem is the grading structure. The test is a 60 question multiple choice worth 120 points, and an essay (not essay question) worth 80. The essay is what messes you up. He grades ridiculously hard on the essay. I have a 3.75 GPA as a junior and the highest scored essay I got was a 75.
This teacher is straight up from the start. Yes, there is a virtual museum posting, quiz over the 2.5 hours of lecture, and crossword over readings every week. Its a content heavy class but just do the work! Tests make up most of your grade but they are multiple choice and essay. If you take detailed notes you will pass! Great for online.
Professor Bartlett was very lecture heavy, and you really have to pay attention and take notes in class. If you want to do good you have to go to class because there are only 4 tests and they are based on his lectures, but weren't too bad. There were also two online lecture quizzes. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. He gives extra credit opportunities though.
You have to buy a $60 iClicker for the class to be counted for attendance. He lectures the whole time, but the lectures are clear and easy to follow. The tests are online, but he uses lockdown browser with the camera, so you do have to study. If you study your lecture notes you will do fine on the test!
The worst professor I have taken by far. He is no help and unless you have no other classes then I would not recommend this class because there is too much work involved for a 1000 level course. Only C I have ever received in college.
You have to go to his class. Almost all of his multiple choice questions come from his lecture. The only reason I had to use the book is because he wants you to use it for the essay portion of each test.
The work is not hard. It is just takes a lot of time. I took his class online because I thought it would be flexible and less work. This is not true. If you listen to just the lectures you will have the answers to most of the test. Also, in the online course you will be required to download software that allows him to watch you. SO NO CHEATING! :(
I took him for an online course and it was painful. He gives 2+ hours of (really dry) lectures a week! Theres no power points to skim through, and there is no study guide for the test. Oh and he uses camera web locked browsers for test. If you just bear through the lectures on time then you'll be ok. But I suggest looking at other professors first.
this professor was the worst I have ever taken, I took him online and his lectures were 2 hours long and completely boring and monotoned. do not take this class if you need a good grade, my whole class has a c or less.
Professor Bartlett is probably the worst teacher i've ever had. He does NOT help students whatsoever, he has a ton of homework, he expects a TON out of you, he expects you to listen to 8-10 hours of lectures online a week, he is just unrealistic. I always see the best in professors and people in general, but man, Professor Bartlett was just BAD.
Prof. Bartlett is a very tough teacher, but is fair. This class is not for people taking a full time schedule while also juggling a full time career and other personal goals that consume significant time. Do not skip lectures if you can help it as there is needed info in all of them. Overall, unnecessarily long lectures and large workloads.
Bartlett doesn't seem to realize that he's teaching a 2XXX level class. He assigns a ridiculously unnecessary amount of homework and places the blame of the entire class doing poorly on the tests on the students rather than taking responsibility for it himself. The only good thing is that you don't have to buy a textbook. DO NOT TAKE!
Do not take if possible. Blames the students for his own inability to teach and assign an appropriate course load.
Avoid him at all costs!!! Worst professor I've ever had
STAY AWAY!! This whole class is basically just proving to him you listened to the lectures. Example, I wrote a paper on the 3 reasons why Rome fell. I got a 5/80 on the paper. A 5!! When I asked him about it, he said I did not say the 3 reasons he said in his lecture. You have no freedom. Also, he does not help you whatsoever. Horrible professor.
This was one of the hardest classes I've taken , so considering this a 1000s class it is kinda frustrating how hard it was. There a few assignments you are graded on, the group project isworth 50% and hes so judges very hardcore. He requires all students to have a ONE ON ONE interview with him to argue their grade at the end, and hes mean about it.
I took him for the honors section of 1100. He's a good professor, just not my cup of tea. The class is taught like a workplace. He's watching your every move so try to be the best "employee" you can be. Grades consist of geography quizzes, journals, a group project, and a performance review at the end of the semester where you argue your grade.
This was by far the worst teacher I have ever had. The exams have an essay question, and they tend to be very broad and open ended, and the way he grades them does not make sense. I would stay far away from HIST 1111.
You are to listen and write detailed notes (that you later must turn in) on video notes that are an hour long, and there are 2-3 a week. I would fall asleep while writing them, but you need them to do the essays which are so hard. I would think I did really good, then get a 70 every time with no good feedback. Easy quizzes, hard tests. Stay away.
I took this class online and it was a bit of a pain but wasn't terribly hard. Lots of long lectures, but they aren't terrible. Quizzes and Test questions are pretty easy. The Essay portions of the tests are pretty difficult though, he wants detail, but you only have 3 days to write them. Only really need the book for essays, not referenced on test
Do NOT take this course online! I wrote a four page essay and got a 5% because I left out one piece of info. The online lectures are way too long for the amount of course work assigned. The course work that is due during the week barely counts for anything but your personal lecture notes are weighted heavily. Worst grade Ive gotten in my life!
Exam essays graded very harshly. Be sure to include every tiny detail especially those he mentions in prompts. You are given 2 resources: his heavy lectures and the text, otherwise you are completely on your own. Does not seem interested in going an extra step to aid students. Does the absolute bare minimum. I do not recommend.
I really enjoyed this class and on top of that learned a lot. The lectures seemed overwhelming at first but I found ways to manage them. He really helps you out grading wise and worked with me when I was having a scheduling conflict. He is a really great professor!
If you're looking for Cs and Fs on all of your papers and low Bs AT BEST on tests, then this class is for you. The 98 minute long podcasts twice and sometimes three times a week are the best part of this class too! His feedback on essays is terrible and gives no guidance to what you did wrong. If you want to live breath and eat history, take him!
The essays required for each exam are some of the hardest things I've ever done. 7 or more pages are required just to pass them, and if you don't take the most copious notes, don't expect anything higher than a failing grade. The weekly work is pretty straightforward, but the exams are harder than normal.
Do not take this class unless you absolutely have to. The essay prompts are unclear and its hard to get a good grade on any of them. If you dont have notes from every single lecture you will not pass the exams or essays.
I love going to his Lectures!! So interesting and he teaches so well!! But you have to work in his class in order to pass, but that is most classes.
I don't understand why he has such high ratings. His lectures are boring, long, and a lot of the information is just... incorrect. He takes forever to respond to emails and his feedback is not helpful. The essay prompts are vague and it's almost impossible to get an A on anything. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He clearly cares about the material based on how he talks about it in his lectures and will go into some comparisons to try and make it more clear and add some more details. The textbook isn't needed, the test and papers can be fully completed from his lectures and are usually based around them. Weekly assignments are easy, but can take up time.
Never in the 4 years that I've been in college did I feel compelled enough to go on ratemyprofessors and make a post about a professor, good or bad. With that being said... Mr. Bartlett is the absolute worse professor, no. Worst teacher, that I have ever had. Too heavy of course load for a level 1000 class. DO NOT TAKE. Sad that I can't say more..
(online class) you have to watch hours of videos him lecturing as your main way to get information. incredibly boring. hard grader
Fall of 2021.We were rarely given homework, it was very easy, didn't weigh too much on our overall grade.Long lectures but very enjoyable, easy to listen to. As soon as he starts talking always write, gives basic title slides but notes are CRUCIAL!Unit tests where we'd pull out a sheet of paper and write about each key topic. Fun class debate/paper
Save yourself and do not take this class. Each week there is a quiz, a crossword assignment, and something he calls a "virtual museum": you must make a discussion post about an artifact you find on the internet. His lectures are excruciatingly boring, and you must submit your lecture notes for a grade. If you take it, use 2x speed for his lectures.
This is the worst professor I have ever had in my life. He requires you to take graded, handwritten notes of his video lectures AND long textbook sections each week. He has no compassion for students and grades brutally. Please do not take this professor unless you are willing to dedicate 8-10 hours a week to classwork (even with 2xspeed).
In his first video he said, "'C' is the average and most people are average, therefore most of you will get 'C's". If you don't watch his lectures, you will fail. He grades your lecture notes and removesthe lectures before the exam opens. Harsh rubric and in one of his lectures went on a tangent abt potatoes for 30 min. Like what. Dropped his class
Listening to his lectures, you can really tell that he cares not only about the content, but making the content fascinating as well. My favorite part about him is how he incorporates random stories and experiences of himself alongside of teaching. The content is easy to follow if you watch the lectures and take decent notes. 100% would take again!
This course is challenging for people who have a packed schedule or cannot manage time well. He can be very boring in his lectures (long at times but also can be short). He is a thorough grader for his exam essays too. He is very knowledgeable about the material though so if you're looking for a challenging course then this is it.
One of the toughest graders I have ever seen. He quite frequently goes off on tangents and expects you to know things that he has not discussed. One bad grade outweighs any good ones you might have. I wish I dropped the class.
I only had him for 2 weeks for online class but that was the worst experience ever. Never take this class unless you want to have mental issues and a stained GPA. His lectures are so heavy and he hides them before every single exam. He requires notes every other week. A Lockdown Browser and webcam are required, and he proctors every single one.
I currently take this course now and I do not recommend. In this course you are given weekly lecture videos between 8-10 and have to take notes on EVERY single one, not only that but you are required to turn in your notes. His essay exams are very hard to pass and gives limited explanation on what you did wrong not to mention very RUDE!
This professor is awful. Each lecture has a PowerPoint, but almost all information you need is delivered verbally, as the PowerPoints are often nothing more than mages. If you don't write down what he says, you are SOL. Most assignments have unclear grading criteria, and he never gives you feedback on important projects until the actual deadline.
I really dont understand the bad reviews for Mr. Bartlett, His lectures are actually enjoyable. The videos range from 15mins-36mins. So many people commented that he goes off topic but he's just making connections so that the material can be easily understood. I loved being in Mr. Bartlett's class, would take again.
35% of the grade was one group project. He is a slow and tough grader; he does not communicate his expectations for assignments clearly. However, his lectures were engaging.
he's genuinely a horrible professor. off the rip, he expects most of the class to perform at a C level. he's not clear at all with his grading criteria on essays and even when you meet with him, he's very evasive and passive-aggressive. alot of the test questions are minute details from lecture videos. i should've dropped when i had the chance!
He is a fine instructor and likeable. He's lecture heavy and you must watch the lectures to take the mandatory notes. Just watch them at 1.5x. He is not picky about them. I do enjoy this subject anyways so I am not bothered by the workload. Pick a different class if you are not interested in the subject.
Do not take this class. By far the worst professor I have ever had. Extremely unclear with his expectations for assignments and literally will randomly take points off for stuff he never told us about. His lectures were quite interesting but the work-load was INSANE. Wish I dropped when I had the chance.
Professor is vague when grading essay exams. He graded an Essay exam and the feedback was "mixed essay", its crazy because I went in order by notes. Also I do not understand of having a lockdown browser exam WITH a CAMERA on the student and it not be open notes. Would not take again, i understand preventing cheating however he goes over board.
Straight up just don't take him unless you have lots of time. I have so much other work and having to take notes on every single lecture is insane. He treats this is as if it is a major course for everyone, not as it it is an online class. He is rude in emails and gives horrible feedback on essays. Do yourself a favor and take someone else.
He is difficult to work with and refuses to see past his own opinions. He will not help you if there is a problem and even attempts to manipulate you if he can. He has graded notes with an unclear grading style and will not change a grade even with a reasonable explanation. Even as a last resort, I suggest you do not ever take one of his classes.
This class is honestly tougher than calc 1 due to the heavy workload: weekly discussions, quizzes, crosswords, 5-10 lectures (5-50 min each), graded notes, a multiple-choice exam, and an essay. The professor is inflexible with deadlines even with honest excuses like illness, etc. Avoid if possible or else you will be EXHAUSTED the entire semester.
He was a pretty descent teacher overall. But there were tons of assignments provide each week like Virtual Museum and crossword puzzles. Almost all of the content is cover by his lecture videos. As long as you follow his lectures videos, you should be fine.
Overall he's overly concerned about AI and his main existence as a professor is to find AI text and catch students. Lectures are long and boring with heavy emphasis on essay writing and grading your notes. Waste of time professor doing child's weekly work while limited in scope to help on test & essays.
Online learners! you are expected to watch 6-8 videos ( 20 min each) which means at least 1-2 hours taking them at x2 speed. He wants them handwritten or typed and very detailed. Also discussion quiz, crossword, and bonus assign WEEKLY. Tough grader on essay YES, ESSAYS. The good part is he's very knowledgeable about history and genuine with teaching
Dropped this class because there are 5-10 weekly 30min+ lectures, in which he spends most of the time rambling and/or stuttering, dishing out very little usable information. In his "expectations" lecture he says even if you have a full time job or children, you need to "allocate" upwards of nine hours a week to his class. No thank you.
I usually wait until I have finished my classes to rate the professor, but I honestly need to just vent this out. DO NOT take this class if you have any other obligations. If you have a job, even a part-time job, kids, other classes, or don't have transportation/money stay way from his class. I wish I had a higher word count, but STAY AWAY!!
Get ready for this to be your most loaded class. Each week there are 5-10 lectures with notes hand written mandatory, a discussion (virtual museum), crossword, quiz every week and then on exam week you have all of that plus a multiple choice exam and essay. His lectures are informational but not very straight forward and organized.
This class is pretty tough, with a heavy workload - weekly discussions, quizzes, and essays. The professor can be inflexible on deadlines. Relying on unstuckstudy for study prep alongside the lecture videos helped me stay on top of things and manage my time better.
An average of 6-10 video lectures mandated to watch each week (20-30m each) and required hand written (only - no typing) notes are to be submitted every week. Each week there is a 10 questions quiz, required crossword puzzle, discussion board, and 2 point bonus opportunity. BEWARE OF EXAMS - every exam has 2 parts: multiple choice and essay (hard)
This professor isn't bad professor, it's just personally time consuming watch and taking notes in the weekly lectures in which is where I tend to fall short. The assignments and quizzes are pretty easy and do come from the lectures. For exams, you have to write an essay + take a quiz and he also provides extra credit and also there's weekly discus-
Overall a Horrible professor. Extremely lecture heavy and takes forever to get to the point. Doesn't provide any study material and is the toughest grader you will ever encounter. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
do not take, saw his instructions and the overwhelming work load and dropped class
The assignments aren't hard but there are 4-10 videos a week that are 15-40 minutes each. you have to turn in your notes (must be handwritten) and he is a tough grader for the essays. He does extra credit assignments every week. it's just a lot for a gen ed
Horrible , how does one make a history class hard….? Don't take this class if you love your life!
I feel like everyone was overexaggerating about this professor. Since it's an online class, his way of taking attendance is by submitting notes that are handwritten. His videos are pretty long and he's a slow talker so having on 2 times speed is a must, but he's not that strict on grading that I've seen people say. I just word vomit for the essays.
Im going to be real. Should be an easy class right? yeah no. Every week there is at LEAST 9 videos. Some weeks there is 16-18 videos. Each at least 15 minutes roughly of him just talking. Not straight forward and you need to take handwritten notes and submit them weekly. How can you expect someone to possibly do that. Too time-consuming. DONT TAKE.
Class overall is easy in terms of assignments but he makes you take proctored web cam exams which is fine if you were allowed to use the notes that you write EVERY WEEK. The lectures are heavy and has a lot of information and he expects you to just memorize everything for your exam. Not a good way to make your students understand the information.
He gives an insane amount of work and would rather argue with you than help you. He also gives the most ridiculous amount of work I have ever seen then is a harshest grader about said work. Also don't even think about asking him to grade anything in a timely manor. He put in grades from the first week during my midterms which is ridiculous.DONOTTAKE
4 tests and 4 essays that open on Friday and close Monday night. All tests are on the lockdown browser, and the essays have to be based on lecture notes. Tests are hard, but he grades the essays lightly. Lectures are long and boring, I put them on 1.5 speed. A lot of easy quizzes, crosswords, virtual museums, and bonuses every week.
Do not take this class with this professor unless you have a ton of time on your hands. He gives an insane amount of work that is impossible to balance with other classes and work. He makes you handwrite your notes and submit them for a grade. He assigns hours of lectures that are only semi relevant. He seems like a nice guy but avoid this class.
This class is terrible and thats being nice. 2 hours of lecture notes a week that must be handwritten and submitted for grading. These lectures were also recorded 5-6 years ago and have terrible quality and sound. Pointless discussions over random items. Not to mention its impossible to get a good grade on an essay without spending days doing it.
I think people overexaggerate his class. He is very straightforward with his instructions for every assignment, which is an easy A. The only thing I'll say is that he does require you to take notes every week, which is overwhelming, but otherwise, great prof. and very clear and direct with expectations in this class, which helps you get an easy A.
Gives multiple lectures a week which is very overwhelming. Each test is lockdown browser and you also have to write a essay. Possibly the toughest grader I have ever had. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!
Do not take. There a multiple better options than this guy. I'll give it to him, he was very straight forward with his criteria, however the amount of work ( for this being a gen ed class) is absurd. Tests are easy, however he grades essays like its a major course and very nitpicky, overall this whole class is not worth the stress. Stay away.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He gives hours of lectures a week that you have to take handwritten notes on. Lockdown and essays for every test. One of the toughest graders I have ever had. He assigns several assignments a week on top of notes and tests. Straight forward, but so much work for a gen ed, online class. Take any other teacher.
Never again would I put myself through a class like this. I received all A's and this was my one & only C. I spent the most time and effort on this class out of all of them. . Lecture videos were ridiculously long and so many a week. On top of that you have to hand write all the notes.I should've dropped the class when I had the chance.
