First year teaching, did a really good job. Makes you go to lecture with clickr questions. Fairly funny although not quite as funny as he thinks he is. Makes exams tricky. Try to know your stuff inside and out.
He was great. Really funny, took time to explain concepts and i would have gone to all his classes even if i didn't need clicker points. Take him if you can. Exams are a bit tricky but you will learn a lot and the class is curved so at least 60% get a B
Professor Block was excellent at teaching the material. This was one of few lectures that I could actually stay awake in. I read the textbook, but I knew of others that didn't and were fine. His exams are very straight forward and he doesn't try to trick us that often. Great class if you can take it with him! He'd be my first choice!
He makes lecture interesting and actually enjoyable to sit through a chemistry class.
This professor was great. Although the class is somewhat hard and boring in general, Prof. Block made lectures somewhat enjoyable. He was easy to understand and even quite sarcastic which was funny. I would highly recommend him.
Chemistry is challenging, requiring a large amount of time and effort. Block is super helpful, I went to his office hours and he stayed an extra half hour to finish explaining. I highly recommend him, and I specifically chose my 104 class because he's teaching it.
I'm not a huge fan of Chemistry but Professor Block makes the lectures interesting with his humor. He explains things very clearly and is very willing to explain things during office hours(very approachable). Tests are pretty straight forward and he teaches close to the book. I would take him again in a heartbeat!
Dr. Block was an amazing professor! He was very helpful and his explanations were clear. He was really engaging and I loved going to his class.
Very funny and engaging during lectures. Impressed after learning it was his first year teaching.
Lectures were engaging and very helpful. Tests were mainly lecture based so outside reading wasn't necessary. Great prof was surprised to learn it was his 1st semester teaching.
Great professor! His lectures are clear and organized, and the tests are based mainly off lectures so reading the book is only supplemental. Tests are a bit tricky, but if you put in the work they're very doable. Funny, engaging guy- I would easily take a class with him again.
Amazing teacher, tries to make lectures interesting with jokes. Exams are not too hard and there is a generous curve. Homework actually helps with learning the material.
Great professor! He does a great job getting the material across, managing to be funny while doing so. Can't imagine a better professor.
He's a pretty good professor. At least in the sense that I learned something, studied for the midterms and final, got an A, and sometimes somewhat enjoyed the class. His curves is VERY generous. He makes jokes, they're not funny, but hey at least he tries. I would definitely take this class with him again given the option. PS don't buy the textbook
He is harder than most but he teaches very well. If you need higher level chem take him because the foundation he will give you is awesome. Taking him in 104 , I had to drop a class to take him. Enough said
Professor Block is awesome. Thought I was going to hate chemistry going into the class, but ended up enjoying some lectures. The exams are hard, but the curve is appropriate.
just take the Iclicker to the lec and study for the exams and you will be fine, the professor is great and I ended up with an A for chem 103 this semester, just take him and you will not regret.
AWESOME PROFESSOR!! Doctor Block is awesome at teaching the material and very clear. He is always willing to help and re-explain things when needed! Very helpful in office hours!! One of the best professors I've ever had! I wish he taught other classes I was taking. He is hilarious, courteous and approachable! Best professor, hands down! Recommend!
Extremely Helpful professor. Makes lectures very enjoyable. Super funny. All material is covered in lecture, so going is important
Dr. Block was great! He tried to make a couple jokes per lecture and had many demonstrations. I recommend him
Dr. Block is the best chemistry professor I've ever had! He is so organized and is able to clarify every difficult details using simple explanations and demonstrations! Definitely recommend!
Lectures were interesting, helpful and well-organized and tests weren't too hard. Really good guy.
Dr Block made lectures interesting and very well organized. He did great demos and always cracked a few jokes each class.
Professor Block is the absolute best. He honestly cares about his students and wants them to do well. He is looking to do anything he can to help. His test are fair, but usually pretty hard. The curve is good though. He teaches very well and is extremely interesting. Hilarious too! He's very young and just the best.
I absolutely adore Dr. Block! He's an amazing professor, and will tell entertaining stories about the most random things. I never dreaded going to lecture. He's extremely personable, and cares about you as a student. My favorite professor at UW so far!
Great Professor! Really cares about his students. Material in lecture is rushed through and its easy to get lost so ask for help when needed. Lectures are entertaining and he does cool demos as well as tells random stories that sometimes relate to material. Overall an awesome professor for general chemistry.
I’ll admit that I hate chemistry, but Block did a good job keeping me interested in it. I felt like I actually understood what was going on, which was nice. Lectures were amusing, and I never found myself wanting to skip them, and I really liked the jokes on the PowerPoints. I would totally take another class with him if I needed more chemistry.
In all honesty, I've always hated chemistry (and I still do), but Dr. Block made it at least bareable. His lectures were very engaging, and I rarely wanted to skip. His exams were long and probably the most difficult I've ever taken, but his curves were fair. Funny, approachable, and helpful professor.
Dr. Block is awesome! Lectures were very clear, and exams were fair. He had a really generous curve at the end of the semester. Take chemistry with Block if you can!
Wonderful guy. Young, caring, and hilarious.
Great guy, makes an effort to talk to his students, and provides extra assistance at the end of lecture.
Great guy, explains stuff really well
He makes the class really interesting with his dry humor
The best professor of my first semester. Went out of my way to get him again for 104.
Dr. Block is the man. Clear, funny, and highly motivated to instruct. Dr. Block keeps the student interested in chemistry. Take him at all costs! TA are friendly and always willing to work with their students when Dr. Block is around. Highly recommend Professor Block, absolutely no complaints to be made!
Block is my favorite professor this semester. He's completely hilarious, clear, and organized. Do not even consider taking general chem with a different professor.
Professor Block was definitely my favorite professor! He teaches very well and is very clear. His exams are fair and he grades well. Loved him and he is really funny. Take his class if you can!
Best Prof. I've ever had. writes big, demos are cool, is a funny guy. fair grading. fair tests. energized. plays w/ liquid nitrogen sometimes and is awesome. TRY TO GET HIM HE IS THE BEST EVER. I could talk all day on how he's fantastic. he once said "Geek is the new sheek" enough said
The fact that this man is teaching chemistry rather than modeling underwear is strong evidence against the benevolence of God.
If you're deciding on who to take chemistry with, Dr. Block would be a solid choice. Not easy by any means, but better than a lot of them. His three exams during the semester are very fair, if you study you should be fine. However his FINAL EXAM was a ripoff! I found that it lowered some peoples final grade a little more than what it should have.
Professor Block is young, but knowledgeable in the subject. Go to his office hours once and just talk to him if you have a question. His tests are fair, but make sure you do the homework. Some stuff will catch you off guard because the reviews usually don't encompass all that is on the test. Definitely worth taking for intro chem.
Dr. Block is fantastic! His lectures are engaging, well organized, and fun. His class is challenging and fast paced, but he is always available for help. Attend his office hours! He is young and energetic and very funny in a dry geeky sort of way. Also -HOT!
Wonderful! Very helpful and easy to understand. With a little work, the course was easy.
Overall and probably the best gen chem professor at madison, but the MC sections of his test will destroy your grade regardless of n how much you study or how good you are at normal multiple choice. I wish he would redesign his tests and give you some idea of what will be on them (he goes out of his way to not tell students what they need to know).
Dr. Block is probably the best professor I've had at Madison! His lectures are clear, well-organized, and easy to follow. He's very helpful and really seems to care about his students. Exams are really hard, but the curve always helps. Absolutely HILARIOUS in class and it doesn't hurt that he's hot. Definitely try to get him if you can!
Dr. Block is a wonderful instructor. He truly loves teaching, and will do anything for his students. He is at my lab almost every week (5:40-8:40pm) and will even help us out on our lab report sheets. One of my favorite professors, for sure. His lectures are clear, organized, and have a little bit of nerdy humor, too.
Dr. Block is an excellent teacher. Super clear. He was the cause of epiphanies concerning content that I've been learning for two years. If you can't learn chemistry from this man then you probably never will.
Best and favorite instructor I've had in my 3 years at UW. He's helpful, funny, witty, cute, and makes chemistry and learning enjoyable. Wish I could have him again. Never wanted to skip class. Thought I would hate chemistry but I loved it. Fair material, exams aren't bad if KNOW (not memorize) the material. Do lots and lots of practice problems.
Love Prof. Block! Hated chemistry but he did everything right and helped me to understand. His lectures were bearable compared to discussion and lab but I would recommend anyone to take a class with Block. He has a great sense of humor and was super down-to-earth.
Dr. Block is overall a very good lecturer. He speaks and writes very clearly and is quite organized. He likes to make students prove they learned the material rather than memorized so exams can be tricky (especially the final). He responds to emails quickly and is always willing to meet with students!
Block is an excellent professor and is super helpful. He's very young but that doesn't stop him from being a great teacher. Lecture isn't mandatory but there are clicker questions you're held accountable for. As long as you study you'll be fine.
Best class ever, best professor ever, best experience ever. Block is a great person who clearly explains what will be on the exams and is very fair with the curve! Great class would do anything to have him again.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Extremely clear in explaining the concepts. Gives notes by hand on chalkboard and doesn't read off of slides, which I like. Class can be a bit hard but it's worth it if you're taking it with Block. He actually made chemistry fun to learn. Go to lectures, otherwise you won't pass. I definitely recommend him.
Great teacher! Makes this hard class way more bearable! Dr. Block is always available to help you and even stops in during lab to see how everyone is doing. Although attendance isn't mandatory, if you miss a class you'll be sad you missed his witty puns, hilarious jokes, and interesting demos! Tests are fair.
Awesome teacher; lectures were worth going to because he made them interesting, funny, and worthwhile. He explained material very clearly and was willing to answer any questions and often extended office hours to help students. Tests could be difficult but not if you went to lecturesdiscussionspaid attention.
GREAT PROFESSOR! If I could take him for every chemistry course I would. He is hilarious and whenever you are about to fall asleep in lecture, he will get everyone laughing with his quirkiness. Tests are not always the easiest. Multiple choice is weighed heavily, and they can be a little tricky. But a great person!
The class was hard even after taking chem in high school for 2 years. His lectures are interesting and he is quite helpful. The tests are hard.
Such an amazing professor! I thought I was going to fail this course as AP Chem broke my 4.0 in high school, but I understood more in college chem than in high school because of Block. Made expectations clear & was able to toss a joke in once in a while to break the tension of an hour and 15 min long lecture. Great professor, recommend him to all.
Dr. Block is a god among men-He's truly amazing and a blast to learn from. It is true that his tests can be tricky, but since the final exam average was a bit lower, if you did reasonably well, you wound up with an "A" in the class. My advice is to do the homework, and look over your notes.
Prof. Block has extremely organized and clear lectures, although I recommend reading the textbook prior to increase your understanding. He is super reasonable and fair with grading homework as well as tests. Super helpful in office hours. IF you can take Block, take him. Probably one of the best Chemistry Professors you could get.
Take Block for gen chem. His lectures are very organized and he sets you up for success. Funny, friendly, cares about his students. Exams can be tricky and time intensive, but if you study you'll do fine. Didn't use the textbook at all. Excellent curve. Clicker required.
Doc Block is one of the great legends of the modern age. Take General Chemistry with him, do not think about it, just do it. He is the best, a true wunderkind of a professor.
If you get the chance, take Prof. Block. He is seriously the best lecturer ever and is very clear in making the material easier to learn. He can tell when students are starting to get bored so he stops to tell a joke or story which makes the power lectures bearable. Definitely study for the exams, he tests knowledge and not memorization.
He is such a great professor, and that is saying a lot because I absolutely hate chemistry. His tests are tough, lots of "Select all that apply", but his lectures are so helpful. I would definitely recommend him. Also, he has an obsession with fire ants, which is neat.
Doctor Block is the best professor I have had yet. During lecture he writes notes on the board, provides examples, and overall does a very good job making sure the information is understood by students. His tests require a deep understanding, not just memorization. Overall, great professor with a good sense of humor.
Dr. Block is an excellent lecturer. He is very approachable and eager to clarify material for students. The exams could be somewhat challenging, but those who complete and understand the labs and assignments should have no trouble earning high marks. Easily one of the most amusing and engaging professors I've had this year.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! Super nice and patient. Well organized lectures, he does memorize his students. It is lucky to have him as instructor.
Dr. Block is easily one of the best Chemistry professors I have ever had, and I don't even go here. I took this course this summer (summer 2015) and it was HARD. expect to work. Aleks homework will take over your life and lab twice a week was obnoxious. Tests are hard, so if you want to take this course over the summer... stop drinking and study.
Funny guy and class is easier if you read the book. Getting his help is key, too; he can explain things really well
I LOVE STEPHEN BLOCK. Best professor I have ever had at Madison. He is very good at explaining the material and makes going to chem lecture something to look forward to! The tests tend to be really challenging but the curve is usually very generous!
Dr. Block is an amazing professor. Obviously, chemistry is not very easy, but if you are willing to put in the time it is quite possible to get an A. If you are able to get into Dr. Block's lecture, do it, you wont regret it!
*Hello and welcome back to Chemistry 103 lecture section 6, I hope you're all in the right place* Dr. Block should be your first choice for general chemistry. He has built up a reputation as the best, and he lives up to it. Great lectures, they are mandatory to do well in the class. Tests can be challenging, but the curve is forgiving. Take him.
Very clear lectures, always tells you what you will need to know for tests. Tests are moderately difficult--averages are usually around 60-70% with a generous curve. The class would be a bit fast paced without a strong chemistry background. Only downside is the huge amount of work--online homework, quizzes, book problems, and lab prep weekly.
I would absolutely take Chemistry 103 with Block. He is super clear about what is expected in the tests and if you actually take the time to study, you can get an A. He's easily the best general chemistry professor here.
For a chemistry professor, this is the guy you want! His lectures are pretty entertaining and he writes things on the board so you don't have to scramble to copy slides. He's also young so he's got good energy in lecture. Chemistry is hard, but he makes sure he's clear and
This class is pretty tough if chemistry is a weak point for you. Block is awesome though and super cute. He has this quirky humor. The tests are hard because they focus on such small details. Studying is a must. The homework each week is easy but long. Uses an iclicker for attendance but you want to go to lecture anyways because they are important!
I loved Dr. Block! Great lecturer and very helpful (he even cracks funny, cheesy jokes). Exams were difficult but I still enjoyed the class. Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Block.
One of the professors I've had so far. He has great notes during lecture which are super helpful and his tests are pretty straightforward. He's a great and funny lecturer.
Block cares about his students. He tries to make lectures fun. The tests are hard, but graded fairly. The curve is also good. Homework and reading is average, but if you need to take Chem 104, take it with Block. He makes it as painless as possible.
His test are very hard and he gives no practice exams. You have to pretty much find your own study materials, and that can be challenging when you don't know what he could test you on. His lectures are very long and very confusing. I would recommend taking another professor for 104.
Dr. Block is literally the best professor I've ever had. He genuinely cares about his students, even though he has about 600 of them. Put in the work and you will succeed. He makes hilarious, nerdy jokes that really make the class enjoyable.
I sometimes wake up in cold sweats at night thinking about how Dr. Block won't be my chem professor anymore. Bottom line he was an amazing professor and if you have the chance to take him a highly recommend it.
Dr. Block was a great person but his tests are never straight forward. His tests are extremely difficult even though I would study for more than 15 hours for each test. I am not the best at chemistry and expected to receive at least a B in the class but even with all the work put in, Dr. Block failed to prepare me for his tests.
Dr. Block's a great person. That being said, his tests are rough. The content is everything he's covered but he is just super picky and detail oriented. Also he grades pretty harshly on his tests. There have been times I got the answer right and received half credit. He's a great professor but you will have to work for that grade.
I really really liked Dr. Block for Chem 103 but I wasn't as fond of him during Chem 104. He's a good prof, but he doesn't give any practice problems or tests to help prepare for the midterms and finals. That was fine at first, but it got old pretty quickly. He's subtly funny throughout class.
Dr. Block is the best prof I've had a Madison. He is a great guy willing to help if you go to his OH's. Tests are tough but reasonable and he gives a good curve. Overall great professor.
I liked his personality but when I had an issue with my TA, Professor Block was not very helpful. My friend and I had the same TA and we worked on labs together. We had the exact same answers (literally word for word sometimes) and she would not have the questions marked wrong and my answers were marked wrong. Not happy about that.
He is very good in lecture as he explains very clearly and easy. However, makes very hard exams that have nothing to do with what he taught or what we learned. If the class average on an exam is high, he will try hard to make it low.
Dr. Block is pretty funny and a great lecturer. Beware however that he will make exams stupidly difficult for hardly any reason and then give everyone an A or B anyway with the curve. Beware Chem 103 exam 2! Hardest test I've ever taken in my life - class average was a 40.
Dr. Block is funny and personable, however when it comes to the nitty gritty, his exams are near impossible. I put in about 25 hours a week for the course and got 100's on the quizzes, labs, and homework - however the exams were brutal. It helps if you have a strong general chemistry background coming in, but if not I wish you lots of luck.
He's a funny guy and explains things relatively well. He expects you really know the material though
He's awesome. Always helpful and really funny. His tests are more difficult and will test your understanding of the course. And with a good TA you'll do great.
Block is a good lecturer. He clearly knows his stuff on chemistry and is great at conveying those concepts. Pay attention in class and you'll catch his hilarious jokes. His tests, however, are stupidly hard, and honestly sometimes seem unfair. As was mentioned below, exam 2's average was a 44%. You will really have to work hard to get an A in 103.
really good guy who wants his students to do well. his class is tough but it makes sure you know what you're doing. would definitely recommend, made sure I got him again for chem 104 next semester
Awesome professor. His exams are pretty hard, about you will really learn a lot in his class. The class typically has curve, and you will see that it is hard to get a good letter grade because your classmates are improving so fast. Can be a tough class, but you will absolutely learn more than your peers in other sections.
Dr. Block is a good lecturer. BUT his exams can be ridiculously hard, if you go to class, discussions, pre-class work, and do your homework, getting good grades on exams should not be as hard as it is. People with other professors had averages around 70-80s, Block's exam 2 the average was a 40. My TA said it was the lowest average he's ever seen.
He's a great guy, he's super funny and therefore easy to listen to. He cares about his students, but makes a hard exam. I spent many hours on this class every week, but still found the exams very difficult. There's a lot of work that goes into this class, but most of it is pretty helpful. Those exams though...
Lectures were insightful and relayed the course material effectively, while limiting time spent on trivial tasks. In lecture questions helped gauge the classes capability in certain subjects, ensuring that he wasn't wasting time teaching material that the class already knew.
I had Dr. Block for Chem 103. His lectures are very interesting and he adds funny jokes here and there so you don't fall asleep. Although his tests are very challenging, if you know the material well enough you will be fine. He is generous with curving and overall knows what he is doing. He is an awesome professor and I would highly recommend him!
I personally think Prof. Block is one of the best chem professors. This class was a LOT of work, but as long as you put enough time into the course, you should be able to get an A. Highly recommend! Taking him again for Chem 104.
Overall, Block was a great professor who cared for his students. The exams were difficult, but he offered a generous curve. If you put in the time and effort to actually understand the material, you'll do well.
test are fair assessments of the material but challenging. lectures are pretty good, pre class, post class hw, and discussion help clarify topics.
He is an outstanding teacher and easily conveys the material. The class isn't easy but if you try a decent amount you will be fine.
I enjoyed Dr. Block so much that I made sure I had him again for 104. His exams are rough, even if you study a lot. The curve does help you out a lot though! I highly suggest that you get Block for chem. He has a great sense of humor in lecture, is quirky and really loves teaching to his students.
I love Dr. Block. His lectures were always organized and clear and he explains concepts in a way that allows you to understand. His tests are tough and covers all materials including lab and homework concepts, but curves help a lot. He is quite funny and personable. Definitely knows what he's talking about. Study a lot and go to lecture for an A.
Dr. Block is an engaging and hilarious lecturer. He loves to teach in demos and is always making funny side comments about everything he does. Lots of easy busy work. Midterm 2 is ridiculous. Class average was a 40 but it didn't matter because everything was curved. Show up to class, do the assignments and try and it's a pretty easy class.
Best professor I have had thus far. I fully intend on taking another class of his if he teaches anything else in my major. Seriously, plan the rest of your schedule around having him as a prof. I cannot oversell how good he is.
Professor Block lays out the course material very clearly with examples for nearly all concepts. He uses clicker questions in class, so attendance is part of the grade. He does not waste any lecture time as it is all just straight chemistry and can be a little dull. Overall an effective, organized, and clear teacher with fair exams.
great professor! Would totally take him again if he taught any of the orgo courses
Avoid the summer class. It isn't curved and test averages were around 40-60. The final is brutal. Block is a great professor but sometimes can be condescending.
Despite hours of studying, Professor Block failed to prepare me for his exams. The exams didn't reflect the difficulty of the course.
Lots of homework and he's kinda pretentious, but is an ok guy. Would take again.
Block is hilarious and the reason I wake up on mornings with chem lecture. Literally my favorite person in the world. He counts down the seconds until lecture and begins as soon as the second hand strikes the minute. He's fearless af and so cool. I aspire to be as cool as Dr. Stephen Block!!
Hardest class I have ever taken in my life. Feel like you are understanding the material and getting problems correct on worksheets, do all the problems on the practice exams, go to review sessions, yet still fail the exams. I do not know what more could be done to try and prepare for exams as they typically have problems we have never seen.
He generally has very good lectures, but sometimes when things get tough or when people aren't grasping the material, he does a poor job at explaining it differently. Some exams are very hard and you'll walk out feeling like you should drop. Everyone feels like that so it is really hard to gauge how you are doing throughout the semester.
I took Dr Block for Chem 103, and while he is clearly knowledgeable on the subject, I feel like a lot of the time he was trying to assert the fact that he was so smart. He would explain concepts in the most unnecessarily difficult manner, when the book would make it much simpler. Tests are hard but not horrible, but you really have to work hard.
Was not prepared for any of his exams even slightly. My TA even said he wouldn't be able to answer some of the questions on Professor Block's exams. They do not reflect the course very well. Doesn't explain lecture slides in very much detail. Homework required many hours even though it says only 45 minutes a weekend.
Chem 103 is a hard course and Professor Block makes it a bit harder. The exams are no joke, they are hard so do as many practice problems in the back of the book, discussion packets and past top hat questions. Also, the homework will take longer than the recommended time so don't get discouraged.
Dr. Block is a very good professor who adds humor into his lectures. I wish I could take him again. I had a strong Chemistry background and put a lot of work in but I did well in the class. I fully participated and went to many office hours but I liked the class. Be prepared to do a lot of work for your grade but you will enjoy the class if you do.
Dr. Block was a great professor. The class wasn't easy, but I felt like if you wanted to succeed he wanted that too. He is very funny in lecture and office hours which makes the class more fun. His tests were not easy, but if you put work in, you will get good results. Wish I could take his class again. Overall, great human.
Funny
Stephen cares about his students and makes sure everyone is actually learning the material. His tests are much harder than the other gen chem professors but you get way more out of the course with him. You have to pay attention during lecture but he does his best to keep you focused and engaged.
Go to office hours they are THE most helpful thing in this course. My second midterm grade increased by 20% when I started going.
I had Dr. Block for 103 and 104 and I absolutely loved him.. he is a very nice and extremely intelligent guy, he cares about his students and tries to push you to your limit.. Exams are not easy, but I learned how to study effectively and started doing really well on them. If you apply yourself, Block will help you reach your potential.
Good lecturer. Exams make up most of your grade and are often so difficult that the average is between 55-65%. Not a bad teacher by any means but his class is so much more difficult than any of the other teachers.
Expect to spend a ton of time outside of class working on homework and studying. The exams are extremely difficult and designed to make you think rather than already knowing/understanding how to do the question because you have done it before.
Going into this class, I was told Prof. Block has some of the hardest exams for general chemistry - and that was no joke. You can tell he is knowledgeable about the subject, because his lectures sometimes went right over my head. That being said, I did end the semester with an AB, so I think his curves are pretty generous to make up for low scores.
Block was a good teacher and you can tell he cares about his students success and understanding of chemistry. His tests were extremely difficult and didn't really mimic the practice exams, but his curves are huge. If you email him and see him during office hours, he is very understanding and helpful. Attend lecture bc he will screw you with top hat
the class is very fast-paced, and Block doesn't really break down many concepts so it makes it really hard to learn. His exams are extremelyyy difficult, be prepared!! Use the provided tutors and join the Chemistry Learning Center (CLC) if you want to succeed! I learned EVERY concept with the CLC, they break everything down and get you through this
Block is a great professor for 103/104 but be prepared to put work in and learn most of it yourself anyway. I had him for power lectures and he made it interesting enough to sit through, did experiments throughout and such. Exams were fairly difficult and he likes to throw in stuff you haven't really seen but have the tools to use. Get a good TA
Here's the bottom line: this class is hard and you'll have to work for it. My recommendation is if you just have to take one semester of chem, get an easier professor. If you're moving on to Ochem and need to understand the concepts, Block is a good choice. He knows his stuff but his class will bury you with homework, confusion, and tears.
Dr. Block is a great professor. He's a bit nerdy, but he is enthusiastic about what he teaches and explains concepts in lecture very well. Be warned that if you do take Chem 109, prepare to work very hard. However, Dr. Block made that class far more enjoyable, and I would definitely take him again.
Professor Block is awesome! Chem 109 can be a tough class but he was sure to make us laugh and keep us somewhat entertained during the lectures. The tests can be difficult though because some of the problems are about topics we didn't directly learn about.
Dr. Block is one of the kindest, smartest people I have met. He truly loves what he does and cares about his students. He makes his expectations very clear, posts all of his lectures, is great at explaining concepts, and is very funny. This class is hard and a lot of work, but Dr. Block reminded me why I love chemistry even through the pain.
One of my all time favorite professors. I only interacted with him a couple times but he still remembered who I was. Gives very clear lectures that are helpful for the homework and exams. Super kind and well respected. 100% would take his class again.
I made the mistake of taking Chem 109 with Dr. Block after having little to no HS chemistry. 3 exams and 1 final, class averages of 59%, 66%, 68% and 69% for the final. Labs and weekly homework are easy A's and help to offset the really difficult exams. Also, the class isn't run on a curve, so you know where you stand.
Block is a great lecturer. He is very engaging and cracks a lot of really nerdy jokes. The tests are hard but the curve is reasonable. You need to read the textbook about everyday to understand what is going on in lectures.
Great lecturer and always tries to throw a little humor in (always laugh if it was remotely a joke). Tests are pretty tough but other aspects of the class bring the grade up. I fully expected to earn an AB with my final exam score but received an A so he does curve/ round up at the end.
Block was very organized and clear in what he wanted you to know. Not only that, but lectures weren't boring. He likes to throw in jokes and lots of demo videos. Labs aren't that bad, as long as you take time beforehand. I enjoyed the class overall, very good curve.
Dr. Block is a very charismatic lecturer. He makes lectures enjoyable with intermittent jokes. He really cares about his students. Attending office hours is extremely helpful because he will answer your questions well, and he will try to make sure you understand it. The exams were very challenging, though.
The exams are unbelievably difficult. It doesn't matter how much you study, even if you get one question wrong on the exam, you could lose up to 28%. (The mastery problems are worth 14 points out of the 50 total, so if you get that one wrong, you're screwed).
Professor Block is one of the most intelligent people I have known. However, this translates to a lot of what he says going over his students' heads. He relies heavily on pre-class work and tends to not explain some topics as well as he should. The tests are hard and averages are generally around 58-60%. There's a lot of work outside of class too.
Frequent exams. three midterm and a final will be given in the three and half month semester. The course itself is hard, so the class is fast. Dr. Block is trying to explain everything well, and he generally did it. Just something is unclear. All faculty are accessible outside of class on Piazza. Be prepared to use 10 hour per week on this courses.
The content taught in this course is really challenging. Exams were difficult, and there was a lot of pre-class and lab prep. Nevertheless, Dr. Block was the best lecturer I couldve asked for. Hes kind, brilliant, fair, understanding, and cares about his students a lot. Fast response time to emails and questions. He gave us a generous curve.
Block is really awesome in lecture. His slides are very concise and he covers lots of content in each lecture, while not making it seem overwhelming. Block makes lecture interesting by throwing in interesting stories and nerdy jokes on a regular basis. Overall I would be glad to take a class with him again.
A very good general chemistry professor. His lectures were fairly engaging.
Arguably the best professor I've had. He really cares about students and chemistry education. His vocabulary is bigger than yours, but he uses it well and precise language is important in teaching chemistry. Class is very structured, and if you do everything they tell you you will succeed. Always go to lecture, discussion, and do the assignmentsA.
Prof Block is a great guy. Really cares about how his students do & his lectures were great. Explains topics well and made a really tough class tolerable.
By far the best professor I have ever had! Even when the content was difficult I enjoyed the class because of him. I would highly recommend this professor!!!
Dr. Block is an excellent professor. Communication with students was great and created an environment where expectations for class were very clear. It was obvious that he cared about the success and well-being of all students. Dr. Block was accessible outside of class by email or in office hours. He also navigated the switch to online class well.
Dr. Block is awesome. Be prepared for very difficult exams. Dr. Block has very high expectations of his students, but he is honestly one of the smartest people I have ever met. He is truly one of the best. If you put your BEST effort in and go to his office hours/ study sessions, you will succeed. 10/10 would take again.
Dr. Block definitely knows what he's talking about; but, he tends to be very wordy and over explains things, making them more difficult to understand than they should be. If you understand chem, he's awesome. If you don't, he's available outside class, but hard to understand explanations. Way harder exams than other professors, but bigger curve.
Personally I believe Stephen Block is one of the best lecturers at UW. From counting down the seconds until the start of lecture to the stories he tells, you can tell he truly cares about his students. He is truly hilarious and an absolute genius. His exams were harder than other professors thus yielding lower averages, but the curve helps.
Dr. Block was a great professor for a challenging class. He is incredibly smart, but always worked his hardest to explain the material in a clear way. I'd definitely recommend going to his office hours--he really took the time to make sure every student was set up for success if they put in the effort! Overall really great guy
Dr. Block is an amazing person and lecturer. If given the chance, attend office hours where he gives 1 on 1 guidance and alternate, simplified versions of thinking about complex subjects
What a fantastic chem professor! He really knew what he was talking about and would tell stories that related to the materials that would help you understand the topic better. His tests are a little harder than the other professors, but he would ask the class what they needed clarification on the day before the test. Great professor and person!
Dr. Block has a wonderful sense of humor. He makes Chemistry more enjoyable for sure.
Tough class, definitely requires some work, but this professor does a good job of making his content engaging and answering questions.
Hands down, best chem professor. The class is hard, though, so get ready for it
Professor Block was amazing he does a really great job of fully explaining concepts and he tries to make sure all questions are answered completely and clearly. He lectures at a good pace and sets clear expectations for grading. The class is very hard but manageable if you did well in AP-Chemistry and are willing to do the work.
Block did a wonderful job during the lecture/meeting periods going extremely in depth to question answers. Very good guy and was always in a good mood!
I really enjoy Prof. Block. He's a really nice person and very intelligent. HOWEVER, I would never recommend taking Chemistry 109 to anyone. Very difficult and honestly not worth all the work that it is. I regret taking 109 instead of 103/104. If you must take 109, get ready to work your butt off
Professor Block was great. Did everything I could expect from a Chem professor and was also very fun and charismatic. This class was great and I fully recommend it.
He was always clear on what was expected of students and was very patient and thorough in his explanations. I highly suggest maximizing all of the course resources, especially the extra practice problems. I never took AP Chem and was nervous about taking Chem 109, but Professor Block definitely helped me succeed and I always felt supported by him!
I really enjoy the pre-class chat, it's really a fun during the online session!
Great professor! He made it clear how tests are graded, which was really nice. It's important to keep up with reading.
Super great guy and made lectures very interesting. Tests were definitely very hard and honestly, I wouldn't recommend chem 109 over 103/104 unless you have to. Material is fairly interesting and Block is an awesome professor but the class itself is definitely very challenging.
Tests were a bit difficult, but if you read the textbook properly and go through the lectures and discussion once, you would clear them. Amazing professor and does has a good sense of humour.
He is super funny during the lectures and he does a really good job explaining what he is looking for when grading tests.
He is a great professor and has a fun humor. He is a tough grader and believes in a true curve, but that being said I would take this class with him again in a heartbeat.
If you are thinking about taking Block do not. Take literally any other professor. Although he is very nice and an overall good lecturer who cares about his students, his exams were head and shoulders more difficult than the other professors teaching the same class. Averages on first 2 exams were 49 & 52. Do yourself a favor and take a diff prof.
He's a super nice guy, but his exam averages this semester were 49 & 52 for the first 2 tests. The other professors average MUCH higher. His class is extremely difficult, don't take him. Just don't. Unless you have extensive experience with chemistry coming in, you will struggle.
Dr. Block is criminally underrated. He is able to uniquely connect multiple chemistry aspects to modern day problems (like climate change). His lectures are insightful for problem solving and don't just rehash things that was done in pre-class. During office hours he's a conversationalist and will answer any questions you have to fullest extent.
Dr. Block is a amazing. He is very knowledgeable and cares for his students. His exams are fairly hard, but they are reasonable and fair. What he covers in class/lecture really helps with overall understanding. He team-taught with Etienne Garand, and I loved having both! They are amazing at explaining confusing topics and providing feedback.
I think that Prof. Block is a great person and great professor. His class is a very tough one though, since he uses more conceptualized concepts for writing tests, the way you learn material is vastly different than how you are assessed. Just be ready to go far more in-depth concept-wise and have a strong base understanding of chem.
Professor Block may be a nice guy, but I would strongly encourage you to take chem 104 with any other professor if you have the chance. His exams are ridiculous and don't even compare to the rest of the chem department. He goes out of his way to make a general chemistry course 10 times harder than it should be.
Stephen likes punishing his students more than he likes helping them. absolutely would not take again
Dr. Block needs to learn how to be warm to his students. Deciding to give an exam, group quiz, quiz, lab and 3 large and complicated homework assignments within the span of 14 days before the final amounts to straight up coldness. absolutely would not take again. Take at your own peril.
Dr. Block is an amazing teacher and human being that truly cares about his students. Yes, his exams are difficult and his class is a lot of work, but both reward students who have put in the time to really understand the chemistry at a deep level. Would definitely take again.
The format of Dr. Block's lectures was very unhelpful. They consisted of small talk and problems that were extremely difficult and often beyond the scope of the course, and were never really relevant to exam questions. My highest exam grade came after skipping an entire week's worth of lectures. Dr. Block was really caring and approachable though.
Dr. Block is very passionate about chemistry and I think that shows through his lectures. Lectures are not super helpful if you read the textbook (which is assigned to do) but do help to provide some clarity. He is humorous during lecture which helps with the entertainment factor. Exams are as difficult as expected and uncurved, but not impossible.
Extremely difficult exams which somehow someone aces each time. Tests are weighed roughly the same as the labs. Relatively easy to exceed for an advanced class. Great Professor, No complaints.
Best Professor ever!!! I really like Dr. Block's lecture because he makes complicated concepts easier to understand and uses interesting metaphors. I like his little humor, really makes my day. The class is fairly easy if you pay attention and read the book before going to the class. Really care about students, reply to emails fast with qualities.
This class is the hardest class I have ever took. Do NOT take this class if you can avoid it. Dr Block is a great guy, funny too, but this class is very hard. I regret not taking Chem103/104. Exams are very difficult, and you will only succeed if you study for an ungodly, significant amount of time every week. Great Prof, terrible class.
Chem 109 isn't an easy class but Professor Block makes in manageable. His lectures reinstate some of the main concepts from the textbook, and he does a good job at listening to student feedback on what we need help on. He also seems to care about his student's success in the class, as he answers questions quickly and makes grading criteria known.
Amazing lecturer, the best of my college experience so far. Nothing was too tough but you definitely had to work for it. Yeah I legit want to be this guy's friend.
Prof Block's lectures make me want to fall asleep. His tone of voice is not engaging and sometimes the jokes fall flat. He is a fine person and the structure is well laid out. The class was hard and very indecisive when it came to curving it or not. Put a lot of effort into podia.
Professor Block is pretty down-to-earth and funny, tries to make lectures as enjoyable as he can. Readings aren't necessarily mandatory, but you definitely need to do them to understand the material and do well on tests. Tests are pretty difficult so definitely recommend getting ahead on your work so you have more time to review and ask questions.
Great professor, very nice and definitely knows what he's talking about. In terms of test difficulty, you do have to study but if you took AP Chem or have a strong chem background, you'll do perfectly fine. The entire semester's content is just AP Chem but a bit more in depth. It's not at all hard to do well in his class.
Dr. Block is a legend, great guy and fantastic professor. Extremely smart but good at explaining.
Amazing prof. Really good at explaining things, and his lectures were pretty helpful. He is also really down to earth and approachable. Decent amount of homework, but overall pretty manageable for a 5 credit class. Course was very well organized. Exams were somewhat tough, but get better as semester progresses. Can't recommend this guy enough.
Lectures recorded, but live is much better. Weekly quiz, pre lab, lab, and discussion, as well as pre-class work before every lecture. Almost everything was graded by TAs, which often lacked explanation for why points were taken off. Wished the grading was handled better, but good teacher and reasonably tough class so you learn how to study.
Block is a great lecturer who breaks down complex concepts into something understandable. Lectures were posted online. Exams seem simple and short, but are quite a time crunch with very in-depth concept-heavy written responses. If you can reason through them though, you'll be just fine. Plenty of opportunities to boost grade outside of tests.
Amazing lectures! Made content interesting and easy to understand. Tests were all free response and short on time, but were manageable. Plenty of opportunities to boost your grade outside of exams (labs, discussion worksheets, homework). Course was extremely well organized and the textbook was helpful. Highly recommend this professor and class.
Kind, approachable, and understanding, but lectures were watching him grade impossibly hard questions that were never seen on exams. Some find it nice that he has the biggest curve (I ended with an AB), but I felt defeated when an A was actually a 50% on exams. I wish I took a prof with easier exams that didn't make me feel terrible about myself.
If you are great at and interested in chemistry, you will do amazing in this class. If not, avoid it. Run away. Professor Block has the hardest exams out of all chem 104 professors. Do not take this class if you want to be happy.
I had Dr. Block for Fall of 2021 and I loved 109! He gave a lot of work but not a lot of it was busy work. Each assignment had a purpose. There was a discussion, a homework assignment, 2-3 pre-class readings and activities, a prelab and a lab in a given week. Every one of those assignments helped me understand chemistry. He and the TAs were helpful
Dr. Block was a great professor! He is soft spoken so it makes him seem less intimidating and more approachable, but is also extremely intelligent. He incorporates funny stories into his lectures to keep engagement up! Although there was a lot of textbook reading and was pretty discussion-heavy, Chem 109 was enjoyable because of him!
Dr. Block is super nice and a very approachable person. His sense of humor made lectures enjoyable, and he genuinely wants and believes that his students will succeed.
Dr. Block was a fantastic professor. While the large class sizes can make you feel small, there are numerous resources available for feedback and Dr. Block is very accessible outside of class. His lectures are clear and engaging, but you'll need to regularly complete significant amounts of pre-work to understand what's going on.
Dr. Block is a great lecturer, but terrible with assigning labs. One particular lab we were given absolutely no instruction on how analyze data and the video given was almost entirely irrelevant to our goal. Additionally, the pre-lab work didn't cover what we had to do. A little effort would've been nice from this teacher in regards to the labs.
I LOVED having Dr. Block as my general chemistry professor. Lectures are productive and well organized (he takes time to answer student questions and finishes daily material) He will use a student answer to a pre-class question and go over how he would grade the response on exams, so you have a clear idea of what the graders are looking for!
His lectures are annotated, so it is easy to follow along. However, to succeed in this class, you will probably need to attend office hours. He is very accessible outside of class, but you are also able to go to the other 109 professors for help. Labs are pretty difficult.
Professor Block is a fantastic lecturer and he was very thorough especially for a class with a ton of material like Chem 109. His exams are difficult but very fair although the grading at times can be pretty harsh as he expects a lot. He keeps lectures interesting by telling stories or jokes and I would definitely take a class with him again.
Best lecturer I've ever had - he writes out his thinking, includes fun (relevant) stories, and answers questions succinctly, non-judgmentally, and clearly. The class is hard, it's not his own fault; there's just genuinely a lot of material to cover. The textbook is free. Block is a very approachable instructor who truly cares about his students.
Dr. Block is a friendly teacher. His lectures are amazing. Great ppt style that's easy to follow, and some jokes/experiences/historical stories during lectures. CHEM 109 is not an easy class, but if you get 80% on each test and do all other work, you can still get A. He answers most student questions and got me interested in chemistry major again.
His lectures were engaging because he drew many diagrams to help with understanding concepts. He did a good job explaining what he was looking for in terms of grading.
Professor Block was truly a great professor. During the lectures he kept the class engaged by jokes, interesting stories about the applications of what we were learning, and more. If you attend office hours he will be more than willing to answer your questions and he works to make sure that you actually understand the material.
His lectures and slides were easy to follow! Chem109 was hard but he tried his best for us to make the material digestible.
Chem 109 was a very difficult course, but Professor Block made it doable. Make sure you go to every discussion, lecture, and lab because the tests are hard so any extra points are worth your time. It is a very time consuming class, but the lecture notes are clear and easy to follow (as long as you do the reading before).
Professor Block is a good professor, and he teaches well. Chem 109 is a difficult course so I think he did the best he could and was pretty helpful. However, his tests were very hard, and the grading criteria was harsh and sometimes not very clear in the sense that I would lose points for the tiniest things.
Chem 109 is really hard but Stephen is a good professor that cares about his students. His office hours are really helpful and his lectures are really clear.
I loved taking Dr. Block's class! He's a great professor who obviously knows a lot about chemistry and is also very enthusiastic about teaching it. He's funny, his lectures are easy to follow, and he's helpful if you have questions.
Did an amazing job teaching concepts and relating to students. I will miss having him as my professor.
Dr. Block is not only an amazing professor, well spoken, and entertaining in lecture, he is also a great and compassionate man. He genuinely cares about his students and is accessible outside of class.
Dr.Block is a well spoken professor who not only teaches the curriculum in an easy to understand manner, he also makes lectures engaging and fun. He shows compassion for his students and has goals to make relationships with his class. I would not recommend any professor more than Dr.Block due to his dedication to his job and students success.
Dr. Block was an amazing professor! Despite attendance not being mandatory, his lectures were always packed. Chem 109 is a great course to take if you have taken AP chem in high school or want to challenge yourself. The class is graded on a good mix of your labs, exams, homework, and discussions and the grading was very forgiving. 10/10
Dr. Block is probably the best professor I will have at my time at UW. You can tell that he really cares about his students and wants us all to do well. His response time on piazza was just incredible; I would get quick responses even if I asked questions late at night. If you put in time and try your best you can secure an A
Amazing lectures. Dr. Block is personable, incredible at explaining these incredibly complex topics, he's insanely smart, but still makes class fun. He posts blank slides that serve as notes for the lectures, and I found them super effective at preparing me for exams. I truly think he has a gift for teaching and would recommend him to anyone in109.
A professor who is a genuine human being.
Made a difficult class such as Chem 109 bearable and in fact enjoyable. Hardly skipped the lectures even though attendance was not required. Performed experiments in front of class, made witty jokes, and showed personality as a professor. Very approachable and would come to labs to check out the students work. Genuinely great human being.
Dr. Block is fantastic, and I am especially grateful for his clear expectations and extremely helpful lectures. He genuinely cares and is clearly knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
Professor Block is a very engaging lecturer!
Professor Block is an amazing lecturer who makes a challenging class enjoyable. His clear explanations, engaging style, and dedication to student success are unparalleled. Unstuck ai was a game-changer for my study prep.
Dr. Block is a very effective lecturer. He made the subject very engaging, despite gen chem usually being boring. He always gave clear feedback and was very clearly passionate about teaching. Would recommend taking chem 109 over chem 103/104 if you have the option. The class has no final, just 5 unit exams which is much less stressful.
Never took AP chemistry in high school, so this class was rough, and I don't think i could've passed with an A without this professor. There was a lot of homework and reading, but the lectures were straightforward, and the professor was funny. If you're taking chem 109, take it with Block.
The class is hard, but he is very knowledgeable. He talks fast and every lecture is up to the bell, but he's a good professor and cares about students doing well.
Dr. Block is a very engaging lecturer and proved to be very helpful in understanding a tough concept like general chem. Reading the textbook does a lot in this class the daily readings will guide the course. Dr. Block does a good job summarizing the concepts in class to where I felt I didn't always need to read. I recommend taking 109 with Dr Block
Professor Block is one of the best Chemistry Professors at UW-Madison. His lecture notes are handwritten and easy to follow. He sprinkles in some jokes here and there in lecture and overall a very enjoyable experience for my first general chemistry college class.
As someone who didn't take AP chem, this class was hell but not because of Block (although he enjoys torturing students with TERRIBLE labs). Exams are so hard (60-70% average) but if you lock in for every lab and homework assignment most people can get an A if they put in the work. Overall I recommend 109 over 103/104, especially with Block.
The class itself is very time-consuming, but Professor Block made it more enjoyable. There is no curve at the end of the semester, and the pre class work is a lot, but it all ends up very useful for the exams. Block is very funny and I loved him as a professor. I took AP chem, but this course was challenging.
This is a very fast paced course but I personally believe that Professor Block does a very good job making good use of lectures. He is very thorough and does a good job of making difficult to understand material understandable.
Dr. Block is an amazing professor. It's clear that he cares about his students and wants them to succeed. His lectures are very engaging He's also very approachable, I emailed him a few times with questions and his replies were always timely and thorough. The class itself is hard, I did well in AP Chem, but expect to be studying a lot regardless.
All-around fantastic lecturer. I felt like I had a clear idea of what I had to do, when I had to do it, and how I had to do it. Even when discussion boring concepts, can keep you engaged with a good sense of humor. If you're STEM-inclined but haven't taken AP Chem like me, I'd definitely recommend trying CHEM 109 with Professor Block!
I can't say much that has not been said already (he is great, all around), but I will add something new: Without going into details, there was a TA that was being very unfair to students, and he did everything in his power to ensure that his students were treated fairly and given the respect they deserve. Awsome guy, all around.
While the course itself can be challenging, Dr. Block has really engaging and easy-to-follow lectures. As long as you stay on top of work and attend/watch posted lectures, you'll be fine. It's obvious Dr. Block cares about his students and loves teaching.
Dr. Block is an incredible professor who made CHEM 109 far less difficult than it could've been. His lectures are entertaining and he presents the content in a very digestible manner. He is also insanely attentive to Piazza if you have any questions. Dr. Block is definitely going to be one of the best (if not the best) professors I'll ever have
Stephen is a wonderful professor. You can tell he really cares about the material he is teaching. Reading the textbook and talking notes before class is so helpful for both the podias and the lecture. Tough class but Stephen made it not that bad.
He is such a good lecturer, highly recomend!
By far the better of the two 109 professors, I had Jacelyn Trate and would skip her lecture to attend Block's. His lectures are very organized and well structured, he also goes over tons of test-like questions in depth during lecture, which is super helpful.
Dr. Block is a great lecturer. He explains difficult concepts very clearly. He is beyond knowledgable, which allows his lectures to be thorough and digestible. He also gives lots of feedback in class that is helpful for exams. If you pay attention to the lectures, this course is not very difficult. He is also very funny and kind, which is a plus.
Dr Block is great! He makes lectures funny and engaging. 109 has a reputation for being tough, and will definitely take up a lot of your time, but Dr Block is a good enough lecturer that if you put in the time and effort to do well it is entirely possible to earn an A.
He's a great professor and his class is fairly interesting. I will say though chem 109 is hard but Dr. Block can help make the concepts easier. Highly recommend his lecture.
He's a great professor that explains things thoroughly and clearly, there's a lot of content but it's not super hard just very time consuming. I can tell he's very passionate about chemistry and always makes class funny and engaging.
Professor Block is a cool guy. Chem 109 was hard but I think professor Block did a good job.
Chem 109 is hard, will have you thinking A LOT, but its not impossible. The tests are rough, but block is such a great professor who really tries to give in-depth concept explanations, especially because most of the tests require applied knowledge. He also cares a lot about his students, I definitely recommend going to his office hours if you can!
Dr. Block was such an amazing lecturer! He always tried to explain concepts that the textbook didn't really explain well. For a hard class like 109, he made it easier. He always responded to my Piazza questions within an hour, even on weekends (insane tbh), and guided me through when my TA wouldn't.
Professor Block was an amazing chemistry professor. He made every lecture fun and engaging - sharing lots of random lore. He is always very responsive to questions on Piazza and is genuinely passionate about chemistry. Would definitely recommend!!
Dr. Block is an incredibly eloquent speaker, explains complex concepts easily, and will make his lectures feel more intimate by sharing funny anecdotes. He is always available on Piazza to answer questions and makes it clear he cares about your success in the class.
This guy is the greatest lecturer I've ever had. Made the course a breeze, highly recommend.
I genuinely cannot say enough good things about Professor Block. He presented the material in such a way that it was so easy to grasp, and made you excited about chemistry. He cares about the success and wellbeing of all of his students, and is just a fun guy to be around.
Chem 109 has a very difficult nature. The tests are incredibly difficult, much more than the practice tests given. Dr. Block is extremely knowledgeable in his field . The thing is Dr. Block says there will be an "adjustment" to grades at the end, but will not post it anywhere. You cannot see how much (if any) your grade was "adjusted".
