i have him for nature of politics. interesting guy, gets off topic alot. he doesnt seem to really cover the material you're tested on in lecture so i guess you really dont have to go. just go to recitation b/c your TA is who grades, Bronner doesnt.
Professor Bronner is one of the best professors at Rutgers. He is very well spoken, and really knows his information. If you're majoring in PoliSci, you should take him.
highly recommended...very interesting class. this guy knows what he is talking about and is pretty clear in conveying the information to the class
really, really unclear, gets off subject..too cynical to the point where you're not sure what he's trying to teach...but you don't really need to go to class. smart guy though

he reminds me of a slighty **** dr. evil-but he def knows his stuff and his class is a good time
All I have to say is he is the Advisor for the Socialist Communist group on campus and resembles Dr. Evil exactly!!
Had three classes with him. 300 level and defended a thesis before him. Fanatastic professor if you don't get intimidated by a intellectual socialist look-alike of Dr. Evil. He can handle a good comeback and is funny and accomodating if you don't whine.
just great

Incredibly smart guy, great lectures, and not too difficult to do well as long as you take good notes in class (the exams are essays, and lectures tell you exactly what to write for your essays). However, he can be a little arrogant... But a good prof.
He's very learned and knows a lot, he's just very arrogant and cannot go 5 minutes without dropping a name. His curriculum is very strict and he is just blegh...
very smart guy, knows his stuff very well and thinks very intriguingly. only one grade though.
the man is way too masculine and arrogant. thinks he knows everything. seemed to consider male students' thoughts more meaningful. doesn't matter how smart he is. his arrogance and exclusion remind me of highschool clique-types. gives socialists a bad nam
The class is so easy, but no thanks to Bronner- grade depends on TA. You don't really need to go to class, just two papers (one midterm and one final) on about 10 books that you have to read--but you can use cliff's notes for them!! :-)
The guy's a Rutgers allstar. The essay tests aren't based directly on lectures, but the lectures are interesting and interactive.
He's a good guy, its easy to see why people would not like him, but its not because he's a bad teacher. Opinionated to the left, but that doesn't mean you have to agree with him. He's definately brilliant though.
No matter what anyone says, this man knows what he is talking about, and is truly versed in the politics of the left. I honestly think he inspires a lot of students to think more critically (therefore intelligently) about the world. if you open your ears.
Bronner is a great lecturer. Very opionated. I never took a Poli Sci Class before and he really made me enjoy his lectures. TA decides your grades. I barely worked on the papers and ended up with a B. Didnt do any reading either. Pay attention in class.
Very smart but also very arrogant and extremely opinionated, tries to mold students mind to believe what he does, other than that hes ok
bronner is a great lecturer... very socialist ... i dug him

He is probably the most brilliant professor at Rutgers. He teaches students to think critically. Subject material is very difficult, but i really got more than you can imagine out of the class
A lot of people don't like him because he's tough and opinionated, but I think HE'S GREAT. If you really like polysci go to class early and sit up front, he's almost always early too and will talk with students about anything.
I liked the class despite the difficulty of reading seven or ten books in that class. Bronner is an articulate and outspoken person who tries to make the class interesting. I liked my TA as well.
Very interesting guy.. Overall easy class.. didn't have to attend if u didnt want to.. Midterm and Finals are Papers not a bad choice taking this class
Second best professor in the PoliSci department. He is extremely smart and brings out the best in his students. The lectures are incredible, the things he says and his ideas are mindblowing. You will be smarter after taking his class. The readings, all political theory are interesting too.
Best prof at Rutgers, the lectures are inspiring. A lot of reading but if you get it done, you will be fine.
Those ratings on helpfulness and clarity are for the TA, Aaron Keck. I don't go to Bronner's lectures, and haven't found a need to. There are two 10-12 page papers that are broken down to 4 essays each. The readings aren't bad, and the essays aren't too hard.
He is an awesome professor. He is kinda intimidating cause he is so smart. Some call him arrogant, but that is 'cause they get schooled by him in class when trying to show off. he talks about real issues and really is inspiring.
Very good professor. The grading all depends on the TA's that are under his wing at the time, so you cant predict how the grading will be. Answers all questions, even though he adds his own pompous, and justified, opinion into his response. Helps open your eyes about all the bull&%$# that you think you know.
Great professor, sit in the front rows and you will really enjoy his lectures. very very opinionated, which is a good thing b/c he's very intelligent. jokes often to keep things flowing.also holds lectures at columbia at times so he is very knowledgeable. Overall, an extremely inspiring class. exams are fair.
Bronner is a great professor to have. The knowledge that you receive from him can not be found in any book. With that said, it is not really necessary to go to lecture because your grade depends on your TA. However, I would advise attending his lectures (although they can be hard to comprehend) just because he is such a great speaker.
hands down the best professor i have experienced at rutgers. truly a liberating educator. his high level political science classes are the best in the field. don't take these classes if youre soft on taking criticism tho. critical thinking is the basis of his school of thought. if you're ready to work, he is the most rewarding professor at rutgers.
The best teacher I ever had at Rutgers!!!!TAKE HIS CLASS he is a very intellectual man and is fun to listen to...you do have to think in his class but you will come away with so much!!!Easy B you have to apply yourself more for an A!!!
This man will rock your world, incredibly learned and tells politics like it is. For a 101 a bit too mindblowing. That he dresses in black always and looks like Dr. Evil...no more needs to be said. Take him before the man silences him!
I really enjoyed Bronner's intro to Poli Sci class!
I took him for Nature of Politics as a freshman and I don't think i was ready for his style of teaching. He's a smart guy that comes off as a know it all.

he's a liberal ass...
Great lectures, great professor. I wrote my paper on a plane and still got an A. Hes the****.
The worst professor I've had since I got to Rutgers. Incredibly full of himself and I'm amazed anyone has a good review for him. Will force you to hate the subject and make you in turn hate humanity in general. Overly caustic and unrealistic.
Had him for poli sci. 101:nat of politics last spring. Excellent professor. Can't wait to take his Western tradition class next semester.
Bronner is by far one of the most unique educators at Rutgers-partly because his background is unique in and of itself. Despite his lust for Rosa Luxemborg (you'll get it some day, a joke), his teaching will extend beyond any particular subject area and challenge you to think like he does: critically out of the box
Great Lecturer and teacher. If you want to think critically, Bronner is the best resource around. Will make you understand all the bs youve been taught since pre-school, and WHY you were taught it (to keep you docile). Empowers students to think critically and for themselves... you will leave class hating what you loved and loving what you hated.
I have had Bronner for several courses, and think he is a great professor. He is easily one of the best lectures at Rutgers. However, one warning, Bronner can spew a lot of BS, and this is not to say that he lies, but has some interesting interpretations, but in his defense, like most good professors he seems happy to debate with you . .
one of the best intellectual minds in rutgers. more or less he tries to pursue a realist approach, assuming the argument in which the authors in the material are claiming. but the way he teaches forces the student to either challenge himself and think critically, or entirely disagree with him. either way, he succeeds. a great professor.
if you look up the word ego in the dictionary you will see a picture of him...overall though not a bad class, hes a real smart guy and there are only 2 papers that constitute your whole grade...TA's are very helpful so take advantage. Go to class and you will LEARN alot which is important, i think?
WORST PROFESSOR AT THE UNIVERSITY!!! Forced the class to buy HIS book, ended up not using it, and the bookstore won't buy it back. All he does is spit out socialist rhetoric and be the most unprofessional, moronic teacher ever. I got an A in this class, but I am SO dissapointed that I wasted my money paying for the credits! AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
The person who rated before me is a complete moron. Do not avoid Prof. Bronner because while he is a bit arrogant, his class really does change the way you think about things. Definitley a class worth taking and an incredibly smart professor. Only gives 2 papers but he and his graders are very fair
He is a great teacher and yes a bit arrogant. He is totally approachable and nice to talk to. Go to recitation, that is most helpful as the prof tends to go off on tangents.
Not a bad professor. Just go to recitation, go to lectures, and speak to the TA and Professor, and you'll get an A. The TA does the grading so be cool with the TA... Also, try to read the books b/c it's hard to write a 12 page paper without reading anything... Like I said, you listen to me, you'll get an A...
Bronner is far and away the worst professor I've had in my 3 years at Rutgers. He spends a decent amount of the class period putting down students' opinions, and he expects everyone to be on his level of intellect. His class has an exhorbinant amount of reading and I failed to gain any knowledge from this man. AVOID at all costs!!
WWAAAAYYYY TOO MUCH LEATHER!!! But brilliant and has a cute dog. As far as how to take his class-- do the reading. I NEVER went to class but did the reading and got a B.
He was one of the best teachers I've had at Rutgers. The class was easy and interesting. Getting an A is no problem if you read and go to recitation. Very interesting individual.
He let me audit his Critical Theory grad course. I've never felt so close to greatness.
EXTREMELY intelligent professor and a great in ur face lecturer. Goes off on tangents. 2 papers 12 pages (you choose topics from a list and can write on as many topics as you want.) Read the books THOROUGHLY because it'll help you with the papers. You don't need to go to class if you understand the material. Reci is Mandatory!
Agreed with SOME of his opinions but hated him with a passion. Had an easy TA. Took him because I was told to wait for him to take Nature of Politics. Also, I never did the reading. Considering political theory isnt my thing, it wasn't that bad to sit through. Although I agree with the person below me...def pompous haha
haha Bronner is a great guy, unfortunately he gets bombarded with negative reviews from students with no grasp of politics. Obviously there is room for debate and Bronner doesn't cut that off, he just presents a perspective instead of superficially dilly dallying around the issues.
Stupid professor.....
Took Nature of Politics with him Frosh year and now I'm a Junior majoring in it...he's mad funny, crazy, and you got a personality to match his you'll do great! Too bad Ken's no longer his TA cause he was sexy, fun, and easy...the dynamic duo. This got me into politics seriously
babbles on and on
I took every class that Bronner offered while I was at Rutgers & learned more from him than all my other professors combined. I am now a philosophy prof myself & owe everything I know about teaching to him. Ha ha he acted out the master/slave dialectic with a TA: priceless. If you're smart, you will like his class. If you are a moron, well. Sorry.
PURE BRILLIANCE. 100% Inspiring! Conservatives don't like him because he puts them in their place... UTTERLY AMAZING, TA grading, great curriculum!
Interesting lecturer, there is no doubt about it. Presents you with a different point of view of politics and the world in general. Tends to go off on tangents sometimes. But, its entirely possible to not go to class and end up getting an A. You just have to be a really good writer. Also, your TA determines your grade.
Great professor. Very clear in his lectures; takes on the role of whatever person he is talking about and lets you ask questions and answers them "in character" to make understanding the topic & writing your paper easier. I recommend him for sure. Theres a lot of reading to do, but you can get away with it by going to lecture. Very good professor
He is probably one of the best lecturers I have had at Rutgers. He challenges other students' beliefs and really brings out the realities of the world. Students like to bash him, because he makes students actually take responsibility for themselves. Sorry kids if he doesn't give you all the answers!
A no nonsense guy who takes no excuse for mediocre work but will help students understand the material. Only midterm and final exams, both essay format. Only attends lectures, good luck with your section TA.
Very interesting and intellectually stimulating class. A great mode for learning cultural/racial relations in politics. Difficult class: long hours and crunched schedule. Must attend almost every class in order to have understanding of material. Only a final exam, essay format; questions given beforehand. Read as much text as humanely possible.
This is the best teacher at rutgers. no ****. very funny and entertaining while intellectually stimulating!! a must experience.
I might not be the best person to comment here because I dropped this class halfway through the semester but Bronner is a horrible professor because he keeps on talking about his opinion about politics and how he is always right. He is arrogant and a snob. The class is definitely not easy for a 100 level. Do not take his class
The readings were challenging, the exams were torture, and his lectures were tough because of the nature of the course. Saying this, I would most definitely retake this class. Hard readings and demanding papers are not an excuse to say that he is a bad professor, because that he is not. Get your money's worth and learn something!
This guy gets a bad rap, this is my second time taking him (101 and Marx) and yes he is hard as hell but you learn SO MUCH. Not for anyone looking for an easy A or even B. He comes off as an ass but thats how he is because he tries to bring about a different train of thought you wouldn't use. 2 12 page papers are the exams (12 questions pick a few)
Probably one of the best professors at Rutgers, very smart and makes the subject matter interesting... just pray you don't fall asleep in class, he will give you a rude awakening : )
His classes are so phenomenal they can call your whole world into question. His critical theory and marx classes probably rank among the best across the country. He's also very personable and approachable, but you've got to do the work. If you are a slacker don't bother.
Amazing professor. He pushes students to do more than they thought they could. And you definitely get a different understanding of the world from him. I would recommend this prof to anyone- smart dumb ambitious lazy etc because you will learn a lot about yourself. Just don't expect a typical lecture.
BRONNER IS AWESOME! he is a very intelligent man and i learned a great deal in his class. DO NOT TAKE if you are a slacker! Alot of readings but just a midterm and final paper. i certainly did not work my butt off but i got an A.. its really a matter of understanding the material A MUST TAKE for those who actually want to learn
The man changed my life. Take his classes if you want to open your eyes to the world- his classes are critically important, and immensely meaningful. The hard work will not go to waste. He's the best I've had at Rutgers
I'm a senior and this is the first class I ever dropped and took a W in. He assigned entire books on a class by class basis, his lectures had no structure or clarity, making it impossible to get a grip on what we were talking about, and he is exceedingly arrogant and condescending towards students.
great professor. best at what he does. recognized worldwide. his lecture are pretty confusing if your not a history expert, but they are interesting. don't talk in his class or HE WILL embarrass you. My TA was awesome (Megan). not that easy, just make sure you READ and you'll be fine. oh and almost all the reading are provided on sakai
I'm a science major and had no clue what was going on in his class. I learned more in recitation than I ever did in any of his lectures. I was always lost and felt he would berate me if I asked for help. No tests but a 12 page midterm and final paper. I would only take this if you're amazing at everything poll sci. Otherwise- avoid!!
Really awesome guy, interested and excited about the subject. There was a lot of reading but that's to be expected in upper-level courses.
Truly one of the best professors at Rutgers that I've ever had. Encourages you to be critical and really opens up your mind. If you do not enjoy his lectures it's either because you prefer not to leave you comfort zone or because you aren't really interested in the course. Man knows what he's doing and doing it well.
Having a class with him is an experience. Everyone who is a student in PoliSci should take a class with him once and you will learn. Has strong views and was flippant to the point of insulting people, but he is nonetheless a brilliant mind. I do agree with previous comments that assigning whole books on a class by class basis is way too much.
3,500 -4,000 word mid term and final (thats it). Intelligent and clear. Read the books and you're golden. cute dog he rarely brings to class too.
A great professor. He encourages students to think critically. I really enjoyed listening to what he has to say! Grade mostly depends on attending recitations every other week, and a midterm and final that consist of 12 pages. It isn't that bad though, and the TA's really work to help you understand the text.
The Man is an AMAZING, ENGAGING LECTURER!
Prof Bronner is a real gem at Rutgers. He's probably one of the most famous professors we have, and he makes class interesting by bringing cool guest speakers. He tells great stories about his experiences, from meeting with Syria's President Assad to meeting with the PA. Come to lecture bc he everything on the exams (2 essays) is mentioned in class
He's okay. Rambles a lot, gets off-topic. He's quite smart and very well-known in the political science field so he has cool stories. Extremely opinionated and will cut you off if he doesn't like your opinion. Recitation is key, though. You'll learn everything you need to know there. Grade is a 9-12 page midterm and final and recitation attendance.
Retrospective now that he's retired. Taught me more than I was taught for my own major. Class time is everything; be well prepared for the discussion. Only took 300-400 level from him; 101 would be scary. One of the options on every exam: "Make up your own question and answer it." Get ready to think, not memorize and regurgitate.
Had him years ago, this is a retrospective review - not as impressed with him now as I once was. His lectures kind of rambled, and the TAs graded all the assignments. Survey course for political theory it is what it is. As far as a personality, he is as champagne socialist as they come. Heard he was accused of misconduct with female grad students
