Burnett is the man,I have done notoriously badly in his classes, but due to my own actions.B is a professional who takes his role seriously,he will educate the hell out of you if you shut up and listen to him.Dont take him if you cant wipe yourself,take him if you love knowledge!Rock on bro!!!!!!!!!
He is really easy and nice. I think he is just shy. He always seemed fair and he seems to want his students to do well.

Dr. Burnett knows so much about evolution. He does tend to drone on, but if you ask him a question he explains thoroughly and likes to answer them.
He is hard, no doubt. You definately need to study. However, just attempt to answer the questions he gives you ahead of time and ask him if your answers make sense (essay questions). He'll hint, if not tell you, what answers he is accepting. You just need to visit his office before tests.

a mud puddle in a south georgia barnyard after the cows come through is clearer than this dude's explanations. i typically make easy A's in everything, i had to work my butt of to get barely an A in this class ... and the only way i did that is slaving over the book, which was by far the better teacher of the two ... and the lab was MUCH worse :(
B is cool cause he want his students to learn. If you are taking his class, all you have to do is listen to what ever he got to say, cause IT WILL BE ON THE TEST!!! (and be nice to him) :)
Dr. Burnett is an excellent professor! He's very knowledgeable about the subject and very helpful. I really learned a lot in his class. Sure - you have to work hard in his class, but the stuff you learn is invaluable. I would definitely take Dr. Burnett again and recommend him to anybody.
a brilliant man, he knows his material that is for sure, he is adorable and funny and makes his lectures interesting. he can sometimes be vague in his descriptions of things but provides you with an outline of each chapter so all you have to do is fill it out and if it is not on that outline, it will not be on the test. I would recommend him
Burnett is definitely a challenging professor, but he continues to provide students with outlines and sheets containing possible essay questions for exams. This was a new course this semester being offered at csu. My advice is work HARD and study his handouts. There's a big project he will assign so it's not just a 4 exam course.
Dr. Burnett is great! his class is hard but he challenges you to think outside the box. His essay questions are hard but generally he gives them a week ahead of time. He is always willing to go the extra mile with his students. most of all he is really nice and funny! CVA lab is hard as well you know!

He is not hard, its the class that's hard because its so much memorization....Good luck-Memorize everything and keep your book close to you...He's a cool professor though...I enjoyed his class even though I had to retake it.
He posts the essay questions a week before hand & will review, but even when answers are used from notes taken in his class he will say explain more. Requires too much reading on your own, & not clear of what is expected for class projects. He expects us to be on level of graduate students, but doesn't give us the tools to meet his standards.
Dr. B is cool! His class along with the rest of the Biology classes are not easy, its college!!!! You will study your butt off but come out knowing your stuff. He is very helpful and always funny!
I never thought I could hate a teacher as much as I hate Dr. Burnett. Very unapproachable, makes material harder than it should be, and I don't even think he likes students.
Dr B. is awsome! The material he teaches is extremely difficult, but he'll do everything that he can do to ensure that you understand the material. You just have to take the time to ask questions.
Dr. Burnett is not awesome. I do not know what these people who do these reviews on here are talking about. The material is not difficult, he makes it difficult. I study very hard in his class, but I am still struggling. He is known on campus as a GPA-buster.

CVA does not have to be as hard as he makes it but he gets off on seeing his students sweet. He loves turning students in for plagiarism on this grade blowing paper you have to turn in at the end of the semester along. He will give a practical on Thursday a test on Friday. He does not care and he brags about it.

I think that half the people that get on this website and brag about how awesome Dr. Burnett is as a teacher is either on crack or this is their 3rd time taking his class because they failed it the first two. You get the idea. Taking notes or going to his office does not help or he would not have over a 50% failure rate.
First of all...He does not have a 50% failure rate! His class is difficult, but it really is the material. He teaches it in a precise manner. He cares about his students and wants them to learn something in his class. This is a 3000 level course...Also, he did the practical/test thing ONCE and apologized for it. It never happened again.

Dr. Burnett is the worst teacher ever. He ruined my gpa. He is a very picky teacher and takes off a lot of points for minor errors. He is one of hose teachers who doesn't want u to succeed. He focuses on making things harder for u then trying to simplify them more. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!

I advised people to take another teacher like Dr. Musolf and you might have a chance to pass, but with Dr. Burnett you will barely maintain a C average in his class.

He is not that bad, he just expects a lot. Invest in a good tape recorder because he will expect you to remember every little detail for the essay questions on the exams. The tests are really hard so you have to study every day. He is extremely harsh with the grading of the research project and docks points for every little thing.
If you don't know how to study, don't blame it on the prof. Get a recorder for his class and I don't see how you can't manage an A. If you can't understand him in class, read the book...he gets all of his lecture materials from the book. Yes tests are a pain, especially those application questions but everything on his tests are on his notes.
I have read all of the comments. Burnett is absolutely the worst teacher I have ever had or heard of. He tries to fail students by teaching to the above-average student. His exams are much too difficult as if he is assessing doctoral students. He does act as if he is a god. He did not follow the Wiley text. He uses exam questions from other texts.
He shows very obvious favoritism. He is very good at explaining what he teaches but it's not what's on his test. he can be very moody at times and rude too. not a good professor.
I had him for lab and he is a pretty good prof! He answers all your questions and goes through the disections with you. It's anatomy so be prepared to work but if you study and go to lab you'll be fine!!!

A&P 2 is hard enough as it is. But he actually TEACHES the material. He's not an easy teacher but u WILL learn in this class. U must study!! If your a nursing major definitely take him!!
People who post bad comments about Dr Burnett are probably people who do not study. He makes his tests straight from the slides he posts.He is very knowledgeable and you will have to work hard to do well in this class. Br. Burnett is AWESOME!!! he a great teacher that knows the subject too well. His tests are very fair and notes are relevant. Just spend 1 hour after every class to review the notes and you will do well on his tests. Take him if you want to learn the subject!!!

Stephen Burnett knows his teaching material and knows how to teach. His problem lies in his inability to cator to the needs of his students. He never listens, does not understand that fair grading is the only means to measure success. He deliberately tries to be difficult. He is bad for the institution.
ok i plan on writing a fair review. I took him over the summer and the thing is he tries to cover a lot of material for each test which makes the class hard. he knows his stuff VERY knowledgeable but tough grader he takes points off if you have irrelevant words in your answer even if the answer is correct. good teacher, but VERY difficult
He's the type of teacher who has a lot of book smart, but not a lot of interpersonal skills with students. He expects you to already know the things he knows and takes points off on the minor things on tests. He also takes points from your participation points if someone cell phone rings in class; so the whole time in class you're paranoid about it
He was extremely hard and doesn't like to give any extra credits or curves for the class. the average on one of his tests was a 40 and he still didn't curve. I wouldnt take him again!
Dr. Burnett is EXTREMELY Difficult. His test are like murder even if you study. He tired his absoulte hardest to make them as tricky as possible. Ugh I can't wait for this semester to be over. I changed my major because of this class. It's true that he shows favoritism to some ppl in the class. He rambles and you are never really sure what to study
He is an arrogant know it all who is more impressed with being witty and jesting at his past students rather than admitting the truth, that he needs to think outside of the Burnett Box. You don't know what he is like until after your second test were you have no idea what he wants for the essays and he will not tell until after you fail.

Dr. Burnett's class is for serious minded people. He knows all the topics VERY well and explains them in details. If you take good notes, study them and approach him if you have problems, he will surely help. He don't teach just to pass exams rather to KNOW what is being taught. Great professor!
Professor doesnt believe in much that is printed in the text & prefers answers to questions that come word, for word from him. He will give you ZERO credit for a right answer w/ a wrong word. I agree with the person said about him getting bitten by one of his rabid experiements and I hope that these comments keep him up at night sobbing..silently.
Egotistical, arrogant. Told students not to waste their money buying the text, just listen to him and they will be fine. Incompreshensible on essay questions - he doesn't like answers that come from online research or the textbook. Run for the hills.
Best teacher I've ever had! Material is difficult, but you will LEARN. He is very nice and super helpful and makes time for anyone who needs it. He tells you EXACTLY what you need to know for tests. Dr. Burnett is an animal doctor, teaching HUMAN anatomy and physiology from the perspective of an animal doctor. How about that? Good luck to you if you have to work with animals for a living.
Dr. Burnett goes beyond being hard which is cool. However, the problem comes in at getting him to explain the material outside of is level of comprehension is useless. He welcomes you to come by his office;but he does not explain it any better than in class.He does has favorites. Don't take him if you have learning disabilities,not compassionate!

I made a D taking his laboratory and is not that he is a bad instructor but the class has too much material to cover. He is very helpful, I sent an e-mail and no matter what time of the day ..he responded promptly. If we are allowed to score instructor at school , even with my grade, sincerely will grade this instructor 99.9/100.I believe in fact.

As a biology major, I strongly recommend you NOT to take this professor. He needs to improve his teaching style. He also needs to improve his grading system to HELP the students learn, not the other way around. I have always loved biology and got all As in my classes but he has probably been the worst teachers I've ever had. Good guy though.
Was not a good teacher for anatomy lab because was thrown to the wolves with no open labs.

One of te hardest professors Ive ever taken. His humor is dry, lectures are long and boring, he is insalely wordy, but worst of all he is very, very anal about his grading (seriously needs to change his style...). seeing him during his office hours does help, however progress is minimal. My opinion: Do not take this professor!
Nice & good teacher but he's an EXTREMELY hard grader. Expects perfection on short answer questions. Pretty much can only get full credit on the Hardy-Weinburg questions. C's on all lab practicals no matter how long I stayed up & studied but managed to get an A with the lab report. Lecture I got a C. Final is cumulative & short answers address 400 topics in 1 question. Avoid if you can. But if not, all I can say is go to class, take detailed notes, listen to his online lectures, & read the book
DR. BURNETT USES GREAT ANALOGIES FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND, HE WANTS YOU TO HELP THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT THE INFORMATION GIVEN IS ALL OVER THE PLACE SO IT MAKES IT HARD TO STUDY. I wish they would offer a Burnett 101 because this professor teaches on a WHOLE different level. You think you understand him but when he grades your assignments and exams... it's not what you expect. his partial credit is not bogus, so don't count on that. To do well in this class your must study, read, and go to his office. Save your GPA and RUN!

Horrible professor! His exams are extremely long and he doesn't prepare you for the depth of info that he's expecting you to know on the short answer questions. He grades terribly and if I would've been advised before hand not to enter his class, I def would have withdrawn after the first class day. Don't take him, he'll ruin your GPA!

The most work I have EVER done in my life for a lab. You CANNOT let yourself get behind, start ur studying early! He is VERY approachable, has a great sense of humor, very helpful, the expectations were just extremely HIGH. All other professors curved at least 1 (some even curved 2) practicals, except him. Get ready to work HARD!
Everyone hates this guy because he's tough and makes you work for it. I have survived his classes with mere B's, but I've seen people earn A's so it is definitely possible! Just get ready to work and actually learn because he is not one of the many spoon feeders!

He keeps his lectures as interesting as anatomy lectures can be, and will drop EVERYTHING to answer your questions. He provides outlines of the chapters, previous exams and even their answer keys. YOU NEED TO READ THE BOOK! he may not say "read the book" but the book is definitely one of the most resourceful things for success. & keep your exams!!
I went to his office hours, asked questions, did the online homework, studied collectively 15+ hours for each exam and got a B. You HAVE to work for your grade! Burnett is a genuine professor and is only trying to prepare you for your major classes. If you think this class is hard - good luck in whatever healthcare profession you're trying to be in
He is definitely one of the hardest professors I've ever taken. He is an insanely tough grader, expects nothing but the best from his students. Yet, I like this guy a lot. He is there to make sure you understand that you are here to work for your grade. He is always willing to help. A very good and interactive professor, but expects your best.
Seriously this instructor should be reported to the deans so he can be corrected. He assigns a workload equivalent to Mount Everest as he gets a kick out of it. Grading is extremely particular too as the answers must be precisely what he wants or it gets a fat X. His presence as an instructor will force you to attend another school.
His class is equivalent to taking 2 1/2 classes as he spends most of his time grading papers than time with his wife. He assigns multitude of reading materials and assigns related but time consuming videos that is required to watch in order to complete the assignment. He is seeking the last standing scientist. Be warned!
Burnett was awesome. He gave opts for extra credit. The lectures were funny and engaging. He provided an outline of each lecture, along with powerpoints to study with. If you read and studied the guide you are good. Would totally take Burnett again. Not sure what all of the fuss is about. I took him in the summer and got a B.
He lacks clarity. He is difficult to understand and he grades bad. He doesn't give any partial credits and his tests are very hard.
The work load is ridiculous. it can be difficult to keep up with his assignments without some form of planner . All tests are half multiple choice and the the other half short answer. The short answers must be precise or they are wrong. I would recommend him at all. Beware of the last minute group projects at the end of the semester!!

worst professor ever. You need to read beyond the text book. His course work is like premedicine. Run from this class. He grade hard and doesn't test on what he teaches.
Exams: 3 to 4 essay questions, open book, 15 min per questions (difficult questions you can't Google). You must read the book, watch the lectures, and take notes. There are papers and discussion posts every week. If taking this in summer recommend NOT taking another difficult class at the same time unless you don't have a job. Step up your game!
Dr. Burnett gives so much extra credit, it is hard to fail his class. You will have done stuff for extra credit and won't know it until he grades it and it is a nice surprise. He really prepares his students for being a good Biologist.
Choose any other professor for Biology. He grades super hard and is unforgiving. He teaches as if we are all in grad school. Super picky and sarcastic.

Considering Bio 1108 is a continuation of the foundational elements of biology, Dr. Burnett ensures that you're learning what you will ultimately need as a biologist (and possibly a strong leader, as he assigns plenty of group work)! Be prepared for the following: Taking good, reliable notes Plenty of research-filled assignments Lengthy exams
Dr. B is one of the better bio professors. He assigns a lot of work but it is meant to help you get prepared for the test. HIS TEST COME FROM THE GROUP ASSIGNMENTS. Everything builds, so make sure if you have questions, GO SEE HIM. BIG on group work, so if you get a sucky group, tell him EARLY on. He cares, so show him you do too!!
He is a very tough grader, but he is a nice guy. If you take good notes and come to his office hours, you should be able to make an A or B. This class is not a free A, so you have to work for it. It is a tough class, but it will help you in long run if you want to get into a medical program.
This man is obsessed with reading his rate my professor, he even told us not to believe it in the beginning of the semester. So all the good comments you can best believe he writes himself. Im limited on characters, but his tests averaged 40s. Do with that what you will
Please guys DO NOT set yourself up for this failure. Just when you think youre doing a great job on something , BOOM, he finds a very very small detail and takes over 20 points off of it. He has to realize we dont have a degree in this ish, so no we are not experts and he isnt either so he needs to get up off his high horse and be realistic...
He made this lab ALOT harder than it had to be and had unrealistic expectations. Also, his instructions were unclear on multiple occasions. He was accessible during office hours though and always responded to emails. He also provided bonus opportunities, but my grade was too bad for them to really have an effect.
If you come to class and read the material you will pass. The tests are hard but theres only 2 but he does give a lot of extra credit.. He talks a lot and the class is boring but he is so nice.. He answers questions and you will have homework each class (lab)
PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF FROM THE STRESS AND MENTAL BREAK DOWNS. I could not properly learn in this class because of how difficult he made it for no reason. I have a 4.0 so I dont lack motivation but he overall just does not have a good teaching technique! His PowerPoints are 10 slides and he talks SO QUICK. Stayed up for hours still getting a 20%.

Don't take this course. I took this course because he was the only person available this semester. It was either that or be behind or semester. Now, they both equal the same end-result; taking this course once again. If you decide to take this course with this professor, you must cram 4-5 months of information in only 7 weeks.
If you can I suggest taking someone else. His grading is very hard so please study study study for all quizzes and practicals. Also, PLEASE don't be 1 minute late to his class because every time you are late he deducts a point from your grade.

Good prof.; lecture heavy. Majority of grade depends on out-of-class activities (Launchpad, quizzes). Exams are hard; 10 MC & 6 short essay questions. Make sure u understand the material; study the objectives. Lot's of extra credit built in assignments & exams. Know his material word 4 word; this will help w/ essay questions. Study & u will pass!!
He's a nice and helpful prof. He assigned groups in the very first weeks of the semester and you will be working with them all semester. There's a lot of work put into this class and his slides contain barely information, so pay attention to what he says in order to have decent notes. With his exams, he is specific with short essay answers.
This dude gives me anxiety! Too much work and it's all short answer. He posts hours of video talking about information that I can't determine is useful. We don't understand the Avidian program for lab. I hate this class. The 5pm deadline for work is annoying. Everything about this class sucks! I didn't know Biology could be as difficult as Calculus
Burnett Exams are so difficult, you dont know whats going to be on there . This class just sucks!! It doesnt make any sense how difficult he makes this class. I dont recommend taking this class in the summer or taking him at all. I usually dont rate professors but this one was needed.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!....I HAVE NEVER TAKEN A LAB THIS DIFFICULT BEFORE! He teaches like everyone has a PHD! His exams are hard. If he is your only option for taking a biology class and its avoidable; please avoid taking him. Just wait and take someone else. You will be under the impression you did great on an assignment and then receive a low grade.
I thought that maybe some of the reviews that were posted on here were maybe people being dramatic. Well I thought wrong. I mean this in the most genuine way possible , do not take the course. Save yourself the mental breakdown, anxiety, and everything else that came with taking this course and the lab.
Stephen Burnett is very spontaneous however when it comes to assignments they are quite difficult beyond imagination. His tests are very wordy and specific which makes passing with a desired grade unobtainable. If you like to bust brain vessels on every assignment, quiz, and exam I highly recommend him.
He is a very hard grader. Your discussions have to be written as more of a paper format than anything. In text citations, work cited, and apa format. He is not very helpful either when it comes to needing help. If you put all your time and effort into a discussion you more than likely not get higher than an 80 unless you are the professor himself.
Don't take this class, your GPA will appreciate you waiting a few semesters to fill this requirement. Lengthy group project with little instruction and harsh grading. Got stuck in a group with 4 people who didn't show up and it cost me an entire letter grade.
I should have dropped the course when I had the chance. Burnett is a very tough grader, a stickler for accuracy, and he makes the course unnecessarily HARD. The exams are also horrible. SAVE YOUR GPA AND DO NOT THIS COURSE WITH THIS MAN. Also, he reads his rate my professor reviews, so whatever good reviews you see, HE probably wrote it.
I want to quit college because of him. The work load is ridiculous and unnecessarily hard. Avoid this class
Dr. Burnett is a nice and genuine guy, he really cares for his student, and he insists the class ask him questions. Besides that, He does give lots of HW and reading and makes you get into groups and do projects together, luckily I got a good group that didn't drop out like half of the class midsemester. If you take him, just pay attention.

Most definitely the worst teacher I've ever had, do NOT take him. He doesn't care and is very inconsiderate. Doesn't give enough time on exams as well. Save yourself the headache because that's what he will give you.
He was a pretty straightforward professor. You just show up to the lab and he'll go over the procedures for the day. Then, he'll be at his desk if you have questions. I don't have anything bad to say about him. I was nervous to take him because of all the bad reviews but I did not experience anything that the reviews said.
It's NOT an easy A but he's a really solid teacher. A lot of students had a hard time understanding mistakes including me but I talked to him about his feedback and soon after I started making As. I really wish I had done that sooner and I would have made an A. Also, take notes for lab reports during class because they're literally the next day.
The tests are really hard to prepare for and the class is hard in general. He isn't very accommodating nor did he take our concerns into consideration.
This professor doesnt explain anything in details for you to understand basically you just have to learn on your own. He go over power points so fast its ridiculous.
All of his classes are set up the same way. Project, open note test, lots of assignments. Very tough grader. If he doesn't like your answer it's wrong. I hated his class !!!!!!
He is a hard professor. If you can avoid taking him, I recommend doing so. His test are difficult. They are all short response and you have to be extremely accurate. He grades based on understanding not memorization so be sure you know the material thoroughly. The class wasn't terrible but I do not recommend. Very nice professor overall though.
Hes not really a bad teacher but I would say that he goes over lectures so fast in such a way you cant take notes effectively. He only explains in a way he can understand and not really communicate with the class to make sure they truly understand the material in the course.
i was scared to take him because of the bad reviews. His quizzes are directly from his lectures and there's so many assignments that it's hard to fail. He tells you what to expect on tests and does bonus pretests. It takes a lot of time but it is not as bad as the reviews say. If you're lazy, don't take him.
This is the rudest professor at Clayton State. He will refuse to help you, and when you do he is very blunt and short. Please save yourself from this professor. I wish I would have never taken this professor. He will not help. SAVE YOURSELF.
He was not a bad professor. He did his job. His lab exams were quite easy. He gives chances to earn extra credit on each lab exam. As long as you do the work, it is very easy to get an A. His post-lab quizzes are very detail oriented. So make sure you study the topics before you take the quizzes.
NEVER!! You will regret every second of his class. RUN FOREST RUN! and never turn back. WORST CLASS AND PROFESSOR I'VE EVER TAKEN
Unless it is your only option, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR ANY OF HIS CLASSES! Dr. Burnett is a terrible professor. He does not help you understand the material and expects you to automatically know everything yourself. His grades are ridiculous, he will take off points for anything that is not an answer he would give. Save yourself the headache and aguish.
If "I just have to do the absolute most" was a person. I saw his reviews and completely ignored it but now I wish I didn't. He is terrible and doesn't care about any of his students. I've never had a professor as terrible as this and it's getting ridiculous. You love your job so much that you found a way to make environmental science hard. Shame.
Clearly the Bio Dept doesn't care about ratings. How he's still employed is beyond me! He puts all his energy into being the worst possible professor he can. He doesn't care about his students passing, he's just here to talk. He offers no help whatsoever. His grading is the absolute worst, using every technicality to make you fail your assignments.
I really like his lab class bc as long as you study from the powerpoint you going to pass his class at least with an B. the first two lab practical are heavy on ID and less physioex but the last lab practical will be heavy on physioex. weekly quiz with no webcam but its will be heavy on lecture be able to understand concept before start it.
PROS - Passionate about his subject - If you had a question, he had the answer. every time. -Kind and helpful CONS - if you do not answer a question the way he would have, it's wrong - lots of HW. Tips- If you don't understand something, go to his office immediately. - brush up on your biology 1107/1108. he expects you to know it well.
This was probably one of my toughest professors yet! He is a tough grader and very lecture-heavy. I would say the only good thing is that he is a very nice man when you talk to him on the side, and if you express your concern with him he will try and help. Other than that if you don't want to work hard, don't take him!

Only take him if there's no other professor available. Lecture heavy and FAST. Exams are hard if you don't understand what he's lecturing about. Tough professor and grader! Honestly don't recommend him at all.
The reviews don't lie, no study guide, no review the slides have nothing to do with test.
I will say is a very nice guy but a complicated professor. Exams are open notes for lecture classes but they are all open response exams. If you don't write down the right things or put down he would have put you will fail. He moves pretty fast as well.

Do not recommend!! He doesn't grade fair , exams are hard & has nothing to do with what we go over class Majority of the time! If he does something wrong & you contact him he will have a horrible attitude.
He's awful. If you miss lecture, the PowerPoints are NOT helpful at all. You have to attend or read textbook to even know the content. He gets attitudes when you ask questions and won't deviate from anything in the syllabus. If he says the due date is before 5pm and it's 5:02 it's already a day late. A big project is due at the end of semester!
