A smart teacher.
this guy is smart and explains concepts fairly well... also very patient with students
His exam is too easy. He should make his exam much harder.
Pretty helpful teacher, knows what he's doing in a math sense..doesn't know too much about business math either..sometimes really confusing lectures
He has an accent, but he can still get the ideas through. He makes his exams harder as you go along. Be prepared for the final.
good prof~! his first midterm was easy~!! but second midterm was insanely hard :) but if you study for the course you can do well.
very smart and patient. although the exams are trivial and bad for good students. very sympathetic and nice.
Very quick. Good class if you can keep up with what he's talking about.
thick accent, alternates from going really slow for the first half hour and then crams as much as possible in the last 20 minutes, doesn't explain things very well, makes mistakes here and there (not too many though) in his notes, not particularly nice...
easy but long exams
Not very gramatically correct.
Easy 1st mid-term. Easy but insanely long 2nd mid-term
Good teacher, made some mistakes but that happens. However he does have a slight language barrier which isn't his fault.
"I know nothing about economic", said Choi... Very east short 1st midterm, result very high class average. Choi purposely lengthen the 2nd midterm, and say "I only expect SMART student to finish the midterm",... meaning 99%of the stude
good prof, explain things clear, although sometimes made mistakes, which most math prof do,too.the exams are understandable and related to the note he gave us. If you attend every lecture, you will be fine.
a very nice guy but not a good prof. His exams are too easy ,the average is too high &one mistake makes a huge difference. should make exams more challenging so that the distribution will be equal, not skewed to the right. not ideal for smart students.
Ppl give Choi a bad review b/c they got a bad mark for the 2nd Midterm. In 1st midterm, more than 1/3 of ppl got 90+%!! Final exam was fair and quite easy. Overall, he is a good prof, and you can easily great marks.
He is extrememly patient and eager to help-and on top of that, as long as you know what you are doing, you are garanteed a great mark! This course with Dr.Choi is a recommended course.
He's a great prof for an intro calc course! He shows great concern for all of his students and he is ALWAYS willing to help out. His exams are fair and easy to get good marks on; though they can be quite long. You can't go wrong with this guy!

Needs to learn english.
I have to admit this Prof Choi was very nice. After the 1st midterm he remarked a lot of them again and many ppl got 10 marks added to their MTs. Lectures were okay, altho sometimes unclear. Overall he's a nice nice guy.
His math logic is no doubt, excellent! But he needs to be able to communicate more clearly in lectures.
He gives alot of hints for exams. He answers every questions u ask him. GOOD prof.
he's quite easy
He is really nice and friendly. Always help students with problems. But he needs to prepare more for the class because sometimes it's not clear what he is saying.
A very nice prof, always there to help students. Gives many hints before exam.
an easy and excellent teacher...very helpful...exams are fairly easy...overall, a recommended course
Cannot speak english.
Very good prof always there to help answer every questions you asked explain clear until you understand
Dr. Choi has definitely improved his teaching style over the semesters. He also is incredibly helpful and his exams are straight forward.

If I have chance to take math again, I will choose to learn with Dr Choi. I miss the chance to take Math 339 and 320 with him. Although my grade was not very great, I still learn a lot. He explains very clear.
Midterm too easy, I lost my interest in the course. HW are straight from the text, again too easy. What it means is the final is the deciding factor. Bad! Everything else about this prof is good. Oh, please turn students down when they come for advising during 322 office hours.
Very friendly professor. Math is hard, but I never feel helpless in his class. Good prepare lecture and review section be4 exams. Math dep. should give him a bigger office because too many students go to his OH. I wish he will teach some 400 level course.
Wonderful prof. Kept things straight forward and never asked anything unreasonable. Midterm was extremely easy and final wasn't too difficult. Take a class with him if you want to really understand the material and get a good grade.
He goes straign from the book. In fact his notes are just photocopies of the books pages. It was a terrible experience.
Not clear whatsoever!! This guy is a joke! He has made a mistake every class since day 1. I can hardly understand his english, sigh.... how can you teach a course in university when your students care barely understand the words coming out of your mouth?
He can be difficult to understand, his accent is fairly thick.
Personally I found there wasn't much point in going to class other than to hear him say "horijontal asymptote" (no that isn't a typo!). Just a really easy course in general.
He did everything right, Math 157 students. You never make mistakes? Explain material well and he wants us to know the material instead of giving a hard time to us. I wish to take his class again.
Very clear in his lectures, and fairly easy assignments. The quizzes are not hard if you study for them. People complain about his mistakes, but hey he's only human! They would probably learn more if they didn't spend so much time trying to find flaws in his work. The only down side is the thick accent.

Kk choi is a really good easy math teacher. It's very possible to get a very high mark in this class. He teaches things not to trick but to teach them in an easy way. It's sad that so many students make fun of him but he is so easy going.
He has very good notes and lots of examples, he is very fair on his quizzes and understands when you can't get an assignment done on time. Very nice guy, easy to understand if you pay attention. A little too patient, takes too much from his class.
His class is extremely easy! He has a bit of an accent, but his writing is incredibely neat, so it makes everything ok. People who can't understand him are just uncultured and need to start talking to people from different nationalities. The quizzes and final are straight from the HW. He cut out almost half of the course content for the final!
This class is TOO easy and thus not fair to those who study. Final exam Qs ALL from previous hw, Quiz Qs ALL from textbook example. His accent is acceptable, to those who lived in east van for years, which we used to hear similar accent everyday. So disappointed at students DONT study at ALL but LAUGH at him, so much noise that others cant listen.
This prof is probably the easiest prof u'll get in university. For quizes just read examples from the text. Has a bad accent, make mistakes, but dont even need to goto his class, just learn from the text book. Do the homework yourself, goto the quizes and finals, and you'll get an A.
hard course content, that he simplifies pretty well. Maybe a struggle at first, but as long as you use the textbook everthing is great
Easiest math prof EVER..sexy and fair. Quizzes and final questions were basically straight out of the textbook. No trick questions and extends hwk due dates when students tell him. Easy course = Easy A. Cheers!
He's not the best prof but the course was easy itself. Heavily based on the textbook, so even if you do not go to lectures, make sure you keep up with the textbook and you will do fine. A lot of self-learning involved so don't screw around.
easiest prof I've had in university! very recommended! for mt, just study inclass examples and u will be fine, like he promises, he'll only test on what u have seen before. seriously, ppl who complain that he is hard have minimal effort in trying
Dr. Choi is really helpful! People who laugh at him in class are immature and just looking for attention while distracting everyone else. Mildly hard course content but he made it really easy to learn. Doesn't give trick questions and is very responsive to any mistakes or concerns. Definately recommend taking his courses!
This prof makes a lot of mistakes. His examples are not unique, taken straight out of textbook. Point? We can go look at it ourselves! He tries to teach too much material, since not all of it is tested anyways. Besides, my opinion: the math 12 stuff he taught in the beginning was useless. Otherwise, the course itself really is not that difficult.
He makes many many many careless mistakes in lectures, but he's ok overall. His quizzes and even the final was incredibly easy... Probably the easiest course in uni. However, I still can't understand why he scaled the whole class down at the end. That really sucked and wasn't fair AT ALL. Plus i sent him over 5 e-mails and got no replies or anythin
Nice prof, with fair marking. Suggest taking a class with him!
For every class, you jot down notes from the overhead. His notes come directly from the text book. Text book questions are way easier than the online hmk assignments. His Tests are VERY fair. If you actually do the work, are able to answer all the text book questions, it is an easy A/B.
Nice prof, some minor errors in lecture notes, but corrects most of them. Lecture notes taken from txt, hw are easy marks, quizes aren't too hard, & final is fairly ok. However, there were too many A's in the class, so he had to adjust the grading scheme (many ppl's grades were lowered by 2 letter grades ).
Oh KK Choi, with his argyle sweaters and horijontal lemets. Love this man. Incredibly easy class, and lots of help provided by the calculus workshop if needed.
He's a nice man. The course is relatively easy. But how he scaled down everyone's grades really made many students unhappy. However, homeworks, quizzes and finals are easy marks. If you already took Calculus in High school, you can get marks easily in this course=)
easiest math prof EVER! clear notes + very helpful
The good: easy tests. The Bad: everything else. A bit of an accent, boring, moves at a snail's pace, notes are straight out of the text, examples in class are easy but online assignments are WAY harder, puts simple concepts in sentence form and makes it impossible to understand. Easy marks but every lecture seemed like the longest hour of my life
Maybe it was due to the fact that too much people got A's in the last semester, this semester's course was harder. People attended last semester looked at my work and said it was hard. Also, Online questions on LON CAPA was hard (even MATH 154 students had some difficulties). Quizzes are okay if you practice. Paper assignment was okay too!!!
hard to understand
Easy tests but a terrible lecturer. Lectures are totally useless. You're better off staying home and learning out of the textbook. Especially since all his in class examples are straight out of the book.

He is probably the eziest calculus prof in SFU. The best ever!!
Pretty good prof. Tended to move at warp speed during the last half of class and make lots of mistakes on the overhead. But all in all a good prof to take this class with.
Awesome prof! anyone who knows jack **** about math.. this is the class u should be in to get a decent mark
He is great, highly recommend him.
Nice guy! Very clear and gives a lot of hints for exams. Best prof in SFU mathmatical department!
Ok prof
Dr. Choi writes and teaches at sonic speed, yet with crystal clarity. He explains abstract notions (and everything else) in very accessible terms. Very helpful, nice, and available, too. He's a great teacher, and one of the best profs at S.F.U., without question.
He is an awesome teacher! Even if people keep asking stupid questions, he answers all of them calmly. Make sure you do your homework as it's easily testable.
His experience with teaching real analysis truly shines and his comments are very insightful. The material is very difficult, and you'll have to suffer through topology at the beginning, but you'll get to nice and useful results at the end of the course. Know your definitions and homework solutions well for tests.
the lectures are vivid with examples... he is quite good in teaching... I believe that his marking is quite fair... but worse thing is we have a stupid TA.. marking heavily on our assignments and the midterms as well. even though you wrote a lot.. you would get 0/5 (this equals to do nothing) TA's are unclear and the hints do not help at all.
nice prof, organized notes, you dont hv to flip over ur textbk once u hv attended to his class and the test paper is easier then the other class, for my class, our class average is 22/30,thats pretty nice isnt it
Very easy exams, notes are helpful, exams similar to book examples and lectures' examples
EXTREMELY BORING LECTURES. DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND YOU WILL GET A GOOD GRADE.
Both midterms were pretty easy and fair, but the final was very hard. He also gave many hints for the final, but didn't stick to what he said, which screwed over quite a few people. Study EVERYTHING, and make sure you do all of the homework questions in the textbook and understand them thoroughly.
The first half of the class was quite boring and the teacher seemed unprepared for the lectures, making mistakes and forgetting how to do the problems. The second half of the class was actual complex analysis where we looked at interesting things. The midterm and final were difficult but the marking was light.
Notes are clear, mostly from textbook but explained thoroughly. Gives a lot of hints about the midterms. Go to review session! Long final but just have to understand all of his examples from his notes and the written assignments.
He is probably the easiest prof out of all the others for this class. However, I still found the class difficult because I had no previous calculus background. Attend the workshops and get help as soon as you don't understand something, because it's really easy to fall behind.
Gives lots of hints for the midterms and there are never trick questions, if you know your stuff it's an easy A. A little hard to understand at times but if you write down the notes in class and just read them later its all good!
homework mark is based on completion (like easy marks). midterms and final exams are marked in a light manner (basically you tried out the question... you would earn the mark). actually, this motivated me more toward the problem solving and research since mark is not considered as a problem. he really understands what we need. a great prof ever....
has a chinese accent that makes it hard to understand. all the notes are handwritten
I would say Dr. Choi made my life easier in a 400 level course since assignments are based on completion mark. What he said really warmed my heart: assignments should not be graded accordance to right or wrong but trying and working on it... this makes me actually spend time reading other textbook and learning the definitions without pressure.
Apart from his accent he is very helpful. First midterm is good.. Second midterm is good too but not enough time to finish. The final was pretty hard though. But then again that was for my year. All in all just study because he is not ridiculously difficult.
Not the prof u want if u want to learn math.
If u do the additional questions given on the assignment sheet; its a guaranteed A. Everyone told me Macm 201 is very hard. but with Stephen Choi; its a piece of cake; just go to class; he makes things simpler; some mistakes during the lecture but over all; he's really helpful and easy
well-organized and fair. recommended.
His exams are very fair if you did the assignments in the textbook and know your stuff. If I had to take another math course, definitely would want to take it with him!
It's difficult to understand him but you get use to it. He basically teaches straight from the text so many don't go to lecture. I did attend lecture though since I don't like studying from the text, and his MT and final only test you on what he taught in class so if you don't go to class and just study text, you may end up studying for too much.
Has an accent, but follows the txt closely, so if you don't understand, you can review @ home. TA marks the HW extremely tough, so it's easy to lose a lot of marks over small mistakes. MTs & Finals are fair but too long, needs good understanding & perfect calculations 1st time as there's no time to go over it again.
This course wasn't easy but the exams were very fair. Make sure you do all of the homework questions and you will do fine.
It was hard to understand what he was saying. He talked straight from his notes, very little ecplainations. His midterms were fair, but there was not enough time to finish the questions, even tough you can finish it but no time to go over. Final exam was horrible, long and hard!
This man saved my life. The content was tough, but he makes it infinitely easier to understand. Nice guy in general.
The midterms were extremely easy, but the final was what got me down. Extremely hard final!! Seriously, and it's difficult completing it within the 3 hour time limit. Overall, his class was okay (besides the final) the TAs are annoying though; they're very hard markers. You can lose marks if you forget the littlest thing.
Midterms were so easy, I got above 90% on both of them...but the final!!! It was so difficult, and the questions were extremely unreasonable for first year students. My friend aced the midterms too and she barely passed the final. Overall, I got a B+, which was a huge let down...
Discourages questions, hard to understand partially due to EAL. Midterms were fair but final was long with lots of details, very arrogant did not reply to emails.
i thought i was gonna die cuz i hated math; and i struggled cuz i didnt do calc in high school. but, math is ALL abt practice - as long as u work hard, u can do it. i failed first midterm, but got 85% on 2nd one. i evn ended up liking math! while choi can't teach, his exams are fair. learning math via youtube/txtbook helped me instead!
Attending his lectures is completely useless other than the fact that you get "hints" about the midterms/finals. However, his hints usually screw you over. His English is terrible. But, he's a nice guy if you talk to him in person.
I thought I could get at least a B- in his class before the final, now that the final exam marks are out, my grade dropped faster than a water fall.
His midterms were pretty much like his weekly assignments. His final wasn't too bad and there was enough time to finish. Go to his review class and study according to that and you'll do well. He's nice and willing to help. Textbook really wasn't needed unless to clarify or get more practice.
The final is brutally marked, I dropped more than a letter grade after the final. Not the professor you would consider to take your math with. Well oh well, good job on making a 100 level calculus tougher than it meant to be.
People always criticize about his English skill, but it's not THAT bad that you can't understand him at all. Lectures are important if you want to ace the exams, the examples are somewhat helpful. If you go to him for help directly, he'll go over the question step by step patiently. Very nice guy, just that exams were bit harder than I thought.
He is not that bad. But it's kind of hard to understand his lecture in the first month but after you got use to it. The final was sososo hard. it was a huge let down! I could have got a A-but because of the final, I got dropped so much! not recommand!
Despite his heavy accent, Dr. Choi is a patient and resourceful professor. He is always willing to help so if you are ever stuck, go to his TA hours. The exams are extremely fair. If you have a hard time with his accent, make sure to sit in the front of lecture!
Difficult to understand him. Exams are okay.
Dr. Choi was hard to understand at times but if you ask him he will help you. Midterms were fair but the final was a bit difficult.
Hard midterm and hard final. Must keep up with homework schedule to get good mark.
The exams are hard. The average for the midterm was 50%. Also the Professor only goes over the same examples in the textbook and it is difficult to understand what he says as well.
Midterms were okay but the final was killer. He's difficult to understand during lectures but just copy all the notes and you should be good.
Overall, if you study you will do fine. I don't recommend going to lecture though. He teaches directly from the book so it isn't very helpful.
Enjoyable prof. Do the practice questions, homework, instructor questions. Time yourself to work fast cause for a final out of 100 marks, there's no time to waste.
Lectures were confusing sometimes and not completely necessary because everything (including examples) are from the textbook. Both midterms were fair. Almost all of the questions from midterms were from textbook questions and homework assignments (would recommend doing ALL the assigned textbook questions before midterms). Final was challenging -ish
nice guy, really available and willing to help you out. After a while you get used to his accent but it is sorta hard in the beginning. Go through the text questions and instructor questions before midterms and final because all of the questions are the same or very similar to that material. Midterms weren't bad, final was pretty challenging.
Good prof, go to class and take notes, do the textbook questions, the homework and go to the workshop. Accent isnt that bad, I got used to it. Final was tough
Go to class, do instructor questions and you're good to go. Midterms were straightforward and exactly like instructor questions, study notes from midterm review class. Final was fine, just do past exams.
This is a tough course. But I don't see how any prof can make this course easier and still serve its purpose. Overall, I think he is clear and the exams are fair. Assignments take time but will really help your exams if you understand the assignments questions and the lecture notes. A lot of memorization needed for this course.
He did a great job of explaining concepts clearly. His accent isn't nearly as bad as other people have commented, I found him easy to understand. He's passionate about math, and it's clear he's taught for a long time because he knows how to teach math well. Very helpful if you visit him in the workshop. I'd definitely take a class with him again.

It's hard to understand his accent, but you get used to it. No time to listen to him because you'll be writing notes so fast. Honestly though, this class is easier then my high school calculus 12 class. The midterms were extremely easy. If you're not math minded like me then I suggest keeping on track with the work.
Mr. Choi is there to gives great onee-to-one help when I drop in to the Applied Calculus Worrkshop. His lectures are thorough, though they may be hard to understand. Sitting closer to the front might be helpful to hear him better.
Tbh, I am getting between a B+ and A- in this class. I got 25/30 on the first mid term and 27/30 on the second mid term. A lot of people complain that this course is hard yet Choi makes it as easy as he can make it. The two mid terms were easier than my pre calc 12 tests (I did not even take calc in high school). Chapter 10 however, is really hard.
Puts himself in the ACW, rare for professors but was extremely help to understand him more as a person and his style of teaching. Overall great prof
Choi is a decent professor at SFU. His lectures may be a little difficult to understand but he is always available for help during his office hours. Exams are not too difficult if you study well for them
Stephen is a very caring and enthusiastic professor. He definitely simplified the course a lot, and he will TELL you what is exactly on exams. If you want to excel in this course, practice questions in advance, don't just rely on friends and study instructor questions/past exams. Also, go to workshop if you have questions!
Mr. Choi was a great professor. His lectures can be tough to understand but he is very clear in ACW/office. He also is specific in what you need to know for the tests which is very helpful. Always go to him for questions you dont understand and do the textbook questions, its what helped me.
Mr. Choi is decent teacher. His accent is a bit hard to understand at first but you get use to it. I didnt take calculus in high school so the course was hard for me. The midterms are straight forward however the final is a bit challenging. The class is scaled so as long as you put in some work you should be fine. EXPECT HOMEWORK.
His accent is a bit thick and can be hard to understand at times. Weekly homework two midterms and a final that'll take the maximum amount of time given. As long as you do lots of practice you should be fine. For the final he gives a list of exactly what will be on it so practice all the harder examples.
he makes calculus really easy and tells students what will be tested on the exam. final is a little bit challenging, two midterms are easy as long as you go through the homework and the textbook question.
I think that he's a decent professor; however, I personally don't think I learned that much from him. Since I took Calculus in high school, most of the material covered in MATH 157 was the same. His midterms are extremely easy and his final is alright -- just got to be careful.
Good professor for people who didn't take calculus in high school. His notes are useful, but he doesn't post most of his lectures notes online (only chapters 1-3, 7, and 10). His mid terms are easy if you study the lecture notes, textbook questions, and his instructor questions. He might curve the grade after the finals.
He has a thick accent, but if you sit closer to the front you will be okay. His midterms are reasonable if you attend the review session, and some questions are similar to the instructor questions. The final is brutal; it is nothing like the midterms. Study hard, and do well on everything else to make up for the final.
Exams are exactly like the questions he goes over in class. Just memorize those and you'll be fine.
Lots of homework, but necessary because constant practice will help you do well. Utilize the ACW if you need help. Midterms were exactly what he said it would be. He literally tells you what will be tested. Join the math 157 group/chat (some really smart ppl post all the answers to the assignment questions and some dude even helped tutor me)
He's a great choice for a real analysis course because he makes it a lot easier than it could otherwise be. Exams and homework are challenging because analysis is a painful subject regardless of who teaches, but he is quite good at it. Definitely would recommend - an A+ is doable.
Professor Choi has a heavy accent, and his lecture notes are somewhat confusing and long. There are weekly assignments for this course, as well as online assignments, and will take up a bit of time each week. Midterms are not as easy as he says during the review session. 50 minutes are a rush for writing his midterms. He is a nice professor tho!
Retook math with Stephen after doing miserably the first time. Stephen is a great professor. Lectures are a bit hard to follow but can be made up for by reading the textbook. Exams are very fair and he will tell you exactly what you need to know. To do well, keep up with the textbook questions and practice continuously.
I swear he's the easiest prof for math157. His accent is quite thick but he clarifies his points quite well. Exam questions are predictable since they are similar to those on the lecture notes. He also tells you exactly what will be tested on exams.
This class was VERY well organized and he gave us everything we needed to succeed. My only minor complaint is that he writes a lot of notes very quickly and it can make lectures a little dry.
He is definitely a nice prof, his assignments are fair, midterm is not easy but he gave a bonus question so you can still get good marks, and if you did the online assignments well you get bonus marks on final.
Read the textbook, because it's really hard to learn in the lectures. Also, get help from the Algebra Workshop for your proofs assignments. Exams and quizzes are hard, but they do reflect the textbook questions. The prof make quiet a lot of typos and mistakes in class content.
Horrible teacher. Doesn't prepare you at all for the final exam and is impossible to understand any he says. Worst part is he's the only teacher for this course so you're forced to take his class.
10/10 easy class. Skipped every lecture.
Took him for required Calc I course. First lecture I sat maybe 8 rows back and couldn't understand his accent after it got distorted by the speakers in the big lecture hall. So if you want to learn anything sit in the front, no one sits there anyways everyone is too afraid of the first year math profs lol
Calc is hard and there is no way around it. Choi's midterms are rather simpler than other profs I would assume. Many students failed the course bc they did not take calculus in high school, so I highly recommend taking calc to have the basic knowledge. His accent is hard to understand but is an approachable prof. I hate math, but he is alright.
Stephen Choi is a good person, but as a professor he falls short, whether its that he is hard to understand, or if he skips over explanations of concepts, or instead of teaching the concept he merely does practice problems. Overall, Stephen is a good guy in the wrong position.
Only took pre-calc in high school so the material was really hard for me. His accent makes the lectures hard to understand, so get ready to self-teach. The final exam was really hard, but the midterms were not too bad. Also, they say the class is "curved" but it really doesn't' do anything. Do well on OQs and IQs to help bump up your grade.
He can be difficult to understand and most of your learning will be out of the lecture. Calc is a hard subject therefore, a lot of studying is required to do well. Most of your grade is based on the final (50%) and midterms. This class is curved, provided you beat the average which is around (55-65%) you'll get a decent grade C+ or a B
He is a good professor and will help you when needed. He also goes out of his way to prepare us a bit before big tests and try to help us despite the fact our class was rude and loud.
Stephen is a pretty average prof. He is willing to help and is always available during office hours but his lectures can be difficult to pay attention to because he writes so fast. Also, there was a large number of typos in the notes. I had other courses as my priorities but if I had focused a bit more I think I could've gotten in the B+/A- range.
He is a great professor. homework assignments are easy and all tests follow directly from what we learned and during review sessions before test he tells you everything that will be on it. math 322 is pretty much calc 1 with complex #'s... super easy. he is also very helpful in office hours & his notes are organized. great prof.
Calculus is hard regardless of the prof, but Choi's accent can be hard to understand and the large class can be intimidating for first-years. He's actually very accessible and helpful IF you reach out to him and ask for help. His midterms are a lot easier than many other 157 profs and the curve should help you out if you're not doing super well.
Stephen does a very poor job explaining course materials.
Stephen is very helpful during office hours and he will walk you through assignment questions to ensure you understand. He explains material very clearly and his assignments and tests are fair and he always lets you know everything on tests beforehand. He is very organized and carying. I hope I get to take classes with him in the future.
I can say Dr. Choi is a reasonable Prof. His grading scheme is fair. He is accessible outside of class. He only tests you on material mentioned in the review session and nothing out of the ordinary. No suprises. His midterm was reasonable. Homework is sometimes hard sometimes easy. Lastly, he writes really fast so it may be hard to keep up
I am a person that finds math hard and his teaching style was not very helpful to me, I went to office hours several times but with no luck. Midterm exams were somewhat, somewhat similar to practice papers (not HW), and the final was the worst I have ever seen, If you usually struggle with math I say avoid.
He's a great prof. The course is proof based so you need to practice a lot. I liked that he communicated everything clearly and that there were no surprises during the semester. I also appreciated that he gave a clear guide of what to study/expect for the final exam.
Taking this class for requirements to do an internal transfer. I don't understand math well but was okay in high school. The way he teaches doesn't help me much and I'm actually better off reading the lecture notes or looking online for other resources. Your grade is primarily from the two midterms and a final.
Students need to understand that Math 157 is a tough course for first years regardless of who you take it with. Personally, I think that Choi did a wonderful job organizing this class and being extremely clear with what was going to be on the exams, there were no surprises. You can't blame him for the course content itself being hard.
The material for calc is hard so keep in mind that if you want to do well you're going to have to work hard and spend lots of time practicing and studying. Overall, Choi is the best prof for this class by far, his assignments and exams are pretty fair and can be easy if you practice all the material. Just be willing to work hard and you'll be fine.
Professor Choi is the best option for Math 157 hands down. Extremely clear with his grading criteria and what will be on the exams. As long as you pay attention and put in the effort, you should be able to do well in his class regardless of your math experience. Studying on your own is still required but Choi does a great job organizing this class.
Math 157 is a really hard course in general no matter who the prof is. It is important to spend lots of time outside of class working on the material. The mid-terms were quite fair if you spend time studying, but the final was definitely real hard.
Everyone complains about his accent but it really isn't bad at all. Class is obviously hard as it is calculus... do good on the first midterm as that'll be miles easier than the others. He is good at explaining concepts but goes very quickly so easy to get lost at times.
Mr. Choi is a very good math prof. I highly recommend taking him. His expectations are very clear. He is going to tell you what to study and practice to be prepared for the midterms and the final, just listen to him and you will be fine. This is a calculus course and no matter how much he teaches you, you still need to do some work on your own.
Choi isn't a bad choice. Canvas was well organized, and Choi frequently updated us on any changes. His lectures are difficult to understand due to his accent, I would recommend using the ACW, YouTube, and Textbook as supplements instead. Midterm/Final was extremely fair, and he literally tells you what to expect at review lectures.
This is an easy course as long as you practice on the textbook questions and exercises on lecture slides. His tests are extremely fair and easy, literally similar questions to what he taught us during lectures. He also goes over what you need to learn during exam reviews. Class is very well organized.
This man has taught 157 so many times it's crazy. Failed the first time I took it (My fault, I didn't study well). So revise the IQ, OQ, and the practice exams well because the same question may come in the midterms or final.
Fair lectures, but he sometimes goes too fast or writes too messily. In exam review lectures, he tells you exactly what he expects you to know on the exam, and will only test on stuff mentioned in the review lectures. The midterms were fair in difficulty, but the final was hard. Some of the quizzes may blindside you, so beware of those.
Good prof. Midterms & Final were fair. HW can be tricky but doable. A lot to remember as course goes on. Keep track of definitions & theorems. Before exams he does a review, stay faithful to it, hints to what theorems u should know proof for. Redo ex's covered in class and HW questions. TA's don't have a marking scheme, pick TA that marks easiest.
he's very caring about students.. gives hints during quizzes. NO FORMULA SHEET THOUGH
very mid. i dont like how he hides class averages. he seems like a nice guy, but he rambles on a lot and sometimes makes solving problems seem harder than what it is. the course structure (50% final) is also a huge downside.
Fantastic professor. VERY organized. Very clear on grading scheme. Gives a full list of what to know/memorize for the final, which I studied and did very well on the final. Would absolutely take a class with him again. Very thick Chinese accent though.
Stephen Choi is a kind hearted guy who was always after class to answer all my dumb questions. Stephen Choi's accent is very hard to understand and his lectures are very hit or miss in terms of quality. I wouldn't recommend going to class and would suggest learning everything yourself to practice, practice, practice.
The lectures were clear and the quizzes and exams were fair and in the same level as the things he covered in class so there was no surprising and hard questions. The sample midterms and finals were the most helpful. The grading was also fair. He helped me a lot during office hours patiently. Overall I'd say he's one of the best math profs I've had
accent is a bit tough to understand but amazing professor overall. fair/easy tests and curves crazy
Good prof for this proof-heavy course. Redo examples and practice theorems - his review sessions provide helpful guidance. Also found Unstuckstudy useful for exam prep alongside the textbook.
He reviews midterms and finals beforehand so make sure to attend those. He is a nice guy with clear expectations and is always willing to help struggling students.
Accent was difficult to understand, and the lectures were practically useless. Examinations and quizzes are fair, so if you do the textbook work and other practice assignments provided you will be good to go, but as a professsor don't expect much in terms of lectures, and be prepared to put in some work and teach yourself throguh the course.
This is for MATH 260. Choi is a really good prof. His accent is hard to understand at first, but once you get used to it, his explanations are actually great. Definitely in the upper tier of math profs I've had so far! Quizzes are very fair, seems to care for students' success.
easily the best math prof I've ever had. there is a reason the lecture hall is almost always is full. he is strict, but definitely respected. just go to every class and you'll understand the content. stephen has such a good way of explaining the content that I don't have to rely on youtube videos to learn
He came across as pretty stern, but he's actually very caring and willing to help. His quizzes and exams are all VERY fair and he tells you exactly what to expect in class. For the exams, go over his review guide and practice tests (which he provides), the questions on the actual exam are nearly identical.
Hard to understand and doesnt care about what hes teaching...
Lectures were really clear and he provided skeleton notes that made it easy to follow along. Exams were quite fair, though the final was very long (but very similar to the practice). As long as you put in plenty of practice and do all the HW you should do fine
Worst professor! Do not take any courses with him or you will regret. His accent so difficult to understand and his writing so messy during the lecture. There are many other math professors way better than him. AVOID!!
I enjoyed number theory with Prof Choi. The course intersects with his research area, so you can tell how passionate he is about the material. Also pretty approachable. Reasonable expectations and workload.
Professor, please teach Math 251, I am scared to take with any other professor but you :(
