His classes were very entertaining. Most of the time we would watch slides of places that he has been, and he would crack jokes. Good class to add units when you are already tackling harder classes.
We have seen it before.
You just don't feel like you get your monies worth with Dr. Cunha.
I really enjoyed Cunha's class. I felt like I learned quite a bit for a person who was deciding to fail a few classes that semester :P. The class was one of the inspiring forces behind my desire for world travel. Highlights are his slides, stories, baraka
No great shakes, although he thinks different.
A lot of stories, but not a lot of substance.
I had Cunha for Cultural Geography and he was awesome. He puts you in touch with his topics with his own experiences and involves the class as often as possible, which is a challenge since it is autitorium style. He is an amazing prof and you will regret not taking him if you miss out.
Great class. His lectures were interesting and funny and the workload was very reasonable. Tests were very straightforward and he even gave out nice study guides before hand.
Gives good info. but that's about it. Will critic others easily and is too into himself. I liked the class until he started taking 1/2 of his time up talking about how wonderful his opinions were... which they weren't. Tests were easy if you came to class (especially) and studied.
HE CRACKS JOKES TO MAKE THE TIME GO BY FASTER BECAUSE HE KNOWS THAT MOST PEOPLE DON'T REALLY WANT TO BE THERE

He is amazing! Ties his history of travel into his lectures. Dont miss the chance to take one of his classes!

One of the first classes I took in college, spurred my interests in travel and even helped me plan some trips. Very passionate and identifies well with students. His lectures help a new students globalize their thought process.

I loved this class. Everyone should take it. All of the pictures and the stories are his. He has been all over the world. It is so interesting.
Always excited to be there. I wish all teachers were as excited as he was.

big lecture. feel full and satisfied when it ends great slides humanize the science. ties scientific fact in well with economic and social issues so its not some lefty/righty BS. 4 exams, long and kind of treacherous, 1 group project.
This was the BEST class I have ever taken in my life! I never skipped a lecture. Cunha is hilarious and extremely interesting! He has the best slides from around the world, and they're always relevant. I almost switched majors because of this class. It mak
Amazing class!

One of the best teachers at HSU - Funny, knowledgable, and passionate about what he teaches. There is a reason his cultural geography classes are always so giant - he's a great teacher.
He is awesome!
He was funny, wacky, made the class more interesting. I recommend him.
Great teacher, great subject.
Awesome teacher. Funny and interesting. Loved the class so much I looked him up to see what other geography classes he teaches, and I'm a Journalism major.
i didn't like this professor because he never missed an opportunity to villify texans, pretty crappy from someone whos whole thing is cultural sensitivity, etc.my family has been in texas for almost 200yrs and it is really offensive. esp. when its all so misguided and false. just compare CA & TX on any social subject - then make your statements dude
very interesting
Great teacher, very funny. The class is great.
AMAZING TEACHER! everyone MUST take his lecture. he is an outstanding lecturer and has wonderful slide shows of his travels to the middle east and asia. he even brought in an authentic blow gun and shot across the room! a must take GE class! :)
awesome class. just awesome. his class was never boring and i wanted to go. really. take his class cultural geog class, you wont regret it.
he is inspiring! he doesn't take role but i never missed class. he is so smart, funny and interesting. anyone who can take his class should!!! tests are easy if you just go to class. only two projects and he grades fairly!
awesome teacher!! take cultural geography and prepare to travel the world
Cunha is an interesting teacher. Although I transfered from humboldt, he actually got me into studying geographic anthropology and I am graduating in June with an anthropology degree. I would totally recommend him. Pick his brain he's brilliant.
Everyone should take his Cultural Geography class, seriously! He's one of the best and most interesting professors on this campus! He doesn't take roll, but I haven't missed a single class because he makes it so interesting.
A bit scatterbrained, but his brilliant stories about his travels and the slideshows make it all worth it! This his class because it will completely expand your world view. And it makes you want to travel!
interesting prof with cool pictures and experiences. vague on many of the labs and tests. takes a while to pass back assignments/tests. overall cool guy with some strong opinions. if you dont like sarah palin, you'll like him.
He was cool at times and told interesting stories but sometimes i felt offended about what he talked about but overall, he's a really good teacher; a few times he canceled tests and quizzes and rescheduled them for our liking
Cunha is a wonderful wonderful amazing teacher. He is able to make ANYTHING interesting and funny. He's very well traveled so he's able to relate the class material to real life experiences. I plan to crash at least one of his classes each semester just to brighten my day. He's great and I recommend him to everyone. :D
good!
Very funny in lecture. Good material, informative. Could chill with this guy.
Stephen Cunha has amazing stories that are relevant to the material being covered and he makes class exciting, and made me want to attend everyday. Lots of reading, but lots of fun too (not the reading but class is fun).
Cunha is about as interesting as he is modest. Lectures are elementary and cover a wide breadth of topics. Testing is often vague, such as reading quizzes that question the publishing sources rather than actual material. Would recommend cultural geo, but not this one..
His formats of the exams and quizzes are awful and will give them all back to back leaving little time to study. On the final he gave an exam and quiz. He rambles about his travels and his family a lot. He's vague about the actually content of the class and will rarely answer questions with clarity. I wouldn't take a class with this guy.
I guess since he got 'scholar of the year; he hasn't cared about his teaching. He was out of the country during the two exams that were given. The class could only ask questions to unhelpful TA. I heard great things about him, but was ultimately disappointed. I'm definitely avoiding him like a plague.
Best teacher I ever had, people complained about the reading quizzes but that is just because they wanted a good grade without actually reading the material. Bad students should not blame the professor, he is amazing.
About 80% of class was spent listening to his adventures, looking at pretty pictures, hearing his political bias, listening to students ask way too many questions, and him joking around. Hard to take the class or exams and quizzes seriously.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. I learned a lot from this class. I went to class every time due to his interesting lectures. He has a great sense of humor too.
I ALWAYS look forward to class! An engaging lecturer and presents the material with fun stories of his own travels. HOWEVER, there's a ton of reading. It's impossible to get thru the class w/out doing the required readings...but combined with his fun lectures it's worth all the time spent. His class made me want to change my major to Geograpphy!
This professor is very unhelpful. He does nothing but ramble on about things that have nothing to do about the exams. He gives too much reading for us to full comprehend and his study guides are terrible. I do not recommend this class to anyone
Interesting class topics with great potential for a fantastic classroom experience. However, Cunha does not deliver any useful lectures, which are filled with rants, personal bias, and politically incorrect, offensive language. On a POSITIVE note, the assigned readings, though a very heavy load, were excellent and enlightening.
Ranting about his travels is interesting but useless when it comes to exam time. Sense of humor is awkward and borderline offensive. Exams and quizzes are normal difficulty, study readings and powerpoints to do well, don't take notes on his rants: it's pointless...
Terrible teacher. His lectures are completely useless and his sense of humor is actually pretty offensive. Class includes him bragging about his travels and not much else. Ridiculously nitpicky tests, sometimes including things that were not even taught. I will never take a class with this teacher again. It was a complete waste of time.
He made the class interesting and fun. He taught from experience so he really knew what he was talking about and he was friendly and helpful when approached. He made it easy to connect with what you were learning and to remember what he had taught you. His tests and reading load were hard but worth it. Very fun teacher. I highly recommend him.
Amazing. My world is larger for taking his class. Don't recall the actual course number, but it was Cultural Geography.
very good teacher, some people are just very big whiners who do not want to do any work.
Requires an extraordinary amount of reading for a 3 unit course most students just take for general ed. Sense of humor can be a little offensive- strange for a professor who teaches about cultural diversity! Exams were a mix of fair questions and unfair questions we weren't allowed to argue.
I don't understand why people are complaining; we are in college, and you should be able to read 3 short books, it's really not that much. Also, he's absolutely incredible and KNOWS what he is talking about. Nice guy, interesting stories...take notes, read, you'll be ok.
He is exceptionally knowledgeable, it's quite amazing. Tests are difficult, sometimes a tad vague. Readings are do-able if you put in the time. He's opened my eyes up to the rest of the world...the best class I've taken here, mostly because he's so enthusiastic about it!
Great class! Changed my outlook on the entire world! He is extremely passionate about this subject, and also about sharing his enthusiasm for education.
Had an amazing sense of humor and was very down to earth. Loved the class
Very funny, Very interesting. you can tell he loves his job and family and he has ben EVERYWHERE, he makes the clas interesting
Awesome professor. very funny and I really enjoyed his class. Take good notes and read the text! He's very specific on his tests for what he wants answered.
So nice and friendly. Keeps things interesting and funny!
Most unnecessary lectures you will ever attend. Talks nonsense all lecture and then tests on material from readings and statistics not covered in class. Lectures are offensive.
I was so stoked on the class.. Until I started going to lecture. It feels like a review of ENVS 110. His lectures are tangential and he spends a long time on topics that don't seem to relate to the class. It is frustrating and disappointing. You're better off cracking open a book or looking up TED Talks if you actually want to learn something new.
Interesting lectures, makes you want to jump out of your seat and onto the next plane to anywhere! However, he's not all that great with time management. We were supposed to get 4 labs and a week before the final he hadn't even posted the last one. And you have to go to outside review sessions where they tried to fit 60 of us into a 30 desk room.
Best class I have ever taken. Made hilarious comments during lectures, which are interactive and incredibly interesting. His travel experience and knowledge make you feel like Indiana Jones is teaching the class! He inspires you to get out and explore the world every day! I may change my major....
probably one of the funniest professors ive ever had. good lectures. 3 exams all semester and 3 labs. labs were graded generously and tests were not so difficult if you studied.
Stephen was awesome. He shows his personal pictures from all around the world during lecture and he has worn a rice hat, burkha, monk's robes, and many other cultural adornments during lecture. He is amazing to listen to and I always look forward to his lectures. Oh, and there's no homework, but do the required reading, it's on the test.
Cunha is the most enjoyable professor I took. He made me want to learn about Human Geography, and he often tells stories about his traveling experiences. He is a very laid back professor, gives few assignments, and even will bring special objects to class for demonstration. I HIGHLY recommend Cunha for ANY class you could take with him.
Review his PowerPoint lectures. Make sure you understand the most important points from the chapters he assigns. Attend class.
Educated and well-traveled.
Lectures were fun and he traveled quite a bit so he is very experienced. Willing to work with students and made class fun.
LOVED THIS CLASS. He definitely knows his stuff and makes class very interesting and fun.
Super interesting lectures because he always used his own pictures from his previous travels around the world. 3 tests and 3 labs. Tests are difficult but doable if you study. READ the assigned readings, you WILL be tested on them. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to be there to hear the lecture notes.
Professor Cunha has been to so many places around the world that he always has personal examples to show during lecture! The class is graded on 3 tests and 3 labs. The labs are really easy to do well on. His tests are a little more challenging and you really have to focus on details to well on them. However if you do well on labs you can do well.
Great teacher. Has lots of travel and real life experience under his belt and brings it to class to provide good examples. very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Class is interesting and fun with this guy.
The best professor at HSU!! He is so funny and teaches so many great things! He also tells the best stories from his many travels during lecture!!
Professor Cunha is the absolute best professor at HSU. He teaches in such a captivating way and have you wanting to go to class. The man has traveled the world and has many stories to tell which adds to the lectures. Make sure to do the online article readings.
