He's really annoying, very cocky too.
Did you prepare your lecture this morning?
excellent lecturer - makes complex ideas easier to understand
Everything is between me you and the fence post
useless class notes, a waste of time going to his lectures
great teacher
oh it sucks
he's a pretty good guy... for an econ prof
Great Prof....Best I have ever had

Not an easy prof, who likes to prove things with math. Great mind though.
Hard final. wtf is up with alwayz saying between u me and the fence post.. omfg
Totally unacceptable
His exams made no sense, and neither did he

Lets just say i don't want him to be my prof again.

unorganized notes, but it's important for final
Very accomodating and helpful
Confuse lecture notes in both speaking and writing
rude, don't care about student's understanding at all, ugly writings
he is a bad teacher. period.
You will have the audience of a trained econometrician; a true economic mind.
doesn't care about students at all, grumpy too

Sometimes interesting, but he is really disorganized in his lectures/material. Final might be hard for a lot of people.
Not interesting course from him at all. Can't control the chaos at all.He doesn't care students' understanding, ugly handwriting.Helpness to students..
Pardon my saying so, but I don't think his ability to TEACH the material was as bad as some have said. He is fast, which could be difficult for students who haven't had any experience in economics. I can see that.
I don't think a class went by without him saying, "Just between you, me and the fencepost..." Thank you for sharing such great secrets with us Professor Easton.
i think he is really an ECON teacher... although he doesn't teach as others do(like u have to read the textbook all by yourself),but his points are really reasonable.and exams have almost the some MC questions with his sample!!
He is the worst teacher I ever have. His lecture goes off topic so much and doesn't cover anything from the textbook. His midterm is ok, but time is very tight and the final is horrible.
Not a bad teacher... but I did get a bad mark in his class, so who knows? I thought I was just bad at Econ.
He knows his stuff, and if you are really interested in econ, and are willing to study a lot, you'll like him. He may be giving a little too much extra material for people who just take the course as a required. Exams are reasonable-know text and lecture
A lot harder than Cox....he's not teaching according to the textbook materials (but instead teaching stuff that is a bit too advanced)
The worst Econ prof I had so far. Drew bunch of graphs without any word explanations. Sure, he knows HIS STUFF, but just not a guy that knows how to lecture. I Guess the word is out: His course in spring has the most spaces left for a day class,47. Just avoid this guy if you can.

he's horrible. unorganized-he talks all over the place. he doesnt follow the textbook so u basically duno wut to study for. his exams are unpredictable. he told us the final is 3hrs long but end up w/2hrs. really outa time considerin the type of Qs being asked. he'd be a better prof than Kennedy tho
One of the best profs ever. Tests are unique and actually test ability to think and analyze rather than memorize assignments and textbook and pass on that. Very knowledgeble on varity of macro and finance topics. If you want a prof that is creative and actually expalins w/o PowerPoint then Easton!!
wut de.. I studied so hard for this course. Never miss or skip any lecture/tutorial at all.. Put so much effort and time preparing for the final but still end up w/ a "C"... Unpredictable exam questions ~~ If u can, try avoid him!!!
He is the worst proof I have ever had. His lecture is not following the textbook. Exams are not hard. If you want to get a high mark and learn something in this course, try to avoid this man! Good luck!
Hes hard ... for god sake
I know the smiley face here will not be great, but I really liked this class and Easton was pretty good. You WILL need a lot of help in doing your paper and it will be tough getting it from Easton because he is not always clear and everybody in the class will be wanting help too. It's a tough course (it's like taking 2 classes) but well worth it.
worse prof ever by farrrrr.
1. no notes at all, just bunch of ugly diagrams. 2. hard to hear his voice from back row of the lecture hall. 3. His TA are bad as well.
Well. He is a good economist. But he doesn't know how to teach. He NEEDS TO TALK to his TAs. Even the TAs dont know how he is gonna mark his partcipation. He has notes. But sorry diagrams arent self explantory, especially for courses like 342.
Read the book before going to lecture, or else it is a waste of time. I rarely ever wrote down notes since he likes to draw messy graphs and write algebra equations a lot. I got burned on the midterm but I still got an A(he forgives the midterm). Seems like a nice guy when you talk to him in person or in his office. Read the book and you'll be fine
Very intellegent and articulate. I found his class enlightening and challenging. The material he tests draws on the textbook heavily, but isn't taken directly from it. You have to actually learn the material and think it through. To do well you need the drive/capacity to understand. Those who don't do well obviously don't.
oh ! good luck
good luck and marking scheme is unfair. TA's not good
well good luck and TA is not good
Excellent prof. Very smart and really knows his stuff. Lectures were very informative and relates the material to interesting real world examples. Will definitely take another course with Easton.
worst prof. ever~~~~
I would NOT recommend anyone to take his classes. He does not He draws messy and unclear graphs on the projector, and does NOT send his power points to us. There was no point in attending his lectures since it was useless. Worst professor ever.
Easton is actually approachable and very knowledgeable. The lectures are genuinely interesting, the man really knows his stuff. The only thing is that he can move fast, so dont forget the coffee. I bombed the midterm, but managed to swing an A in the end. I work in the banking industry, his class was very useful- real insight.
He might be a little boring but he is a great prof. he knows so much and explain the class in a way that is easy to understand. You MUST read the textbook to know whats going on in the class.
Lectures are painful. He loves to talk. Notes during lectures are chicken scratch graphs that are useless. Occasionally posts hand written pdfs. Exams are very tough. Questions are not clear. Cannot operate technology. Would recommend to wait for David Cox.
Easton comes across as a lazy instructor. At this point in his career, he probably doesn't care about anything. Lectures are not that useful. He frequently said, "It's in the textbook" and "I do this very differently from the textbook (stress importance)." His notes are also very unclear and essentially useless.
He's undoubtedly a great economist, however, his clarity needs improvement.Midterm was easy, final was easier. The questions were mostly analytical types and required you to fully understand the concepts rather than pure memorization. He's highly approachable and very knowledgeable in the field. If you want to learn something, take him.
He is really knowledgeable and his notes is quite useful for studying this course even though his handwriting is horrible. Find all information and answers from his notes for his sample paper cuz those will be midterm and final's questions :D Good luck.
Easton is one of the more knowledgeable profs I've had. He's also very nice and approachable. If you pay attention, his lectures are actually informative and clear. His exams are fair--no surprises. If you are interested in the course material and put in the effort, you can do well.
He is a very passionate prof. but he's very bad at explaining things!!! He never stops talking for the whole 2 hours. Also lectures are not too helpful with his terrible handwriting. I guess the only reason he s still in SFU is that his exams are fairly easy. You just need to study the course by yourself.
you need to read the textbook in order to understand what he does in class because he is very unclear and he skips a lot of steps when explaining some models. His lecture notes are useless because you wouldn't able to read his terrible handwriting and messy graphs. He himself is the only one who can understand those messy notes. bad TA bad marking
5 bad out of 5 bad! bad teaching, bad notes, bad TA, bad exams and bad marking scheme. bad bad bad!! last question in the final worth 1/3 of 50% of your total grades. And it is an open question. You better be a buddy of your TA otherwise you get ugly marks... He makes easy things complicated..and the course super dumb boring
Very useless prof, writes notes as if he has a pen in his mouth, off track easily and unclear "Today we're going to talk about this but you won't need to know this but I'm going to say it anyways", doesn't answer questions clearly or engage the class in any way, 2-hour boring lectures. Exams as described below. Easton - not even once AVOID PLEASE!
The most useless and boring class i've ever had. His handwritting is terrible. AVOID
Although his lecture might be all over the place, Easton is an enthusiastic Prof. If you visit his office hours he would be more then willing to help you out. Textbook use is really high, exam questions are based on the text so there should not be any surprises if you get the concepts. Just his writing is what makes the lectures difficult.
I never attended classes after the midterm and ended up with A. All you need is study the course by yourself because his lectures are useless and his notes remind me an Arabic script. His exams are extremely easy for those who understand the main points. I would not take any other class with him as self-studying is not my thing
The class is easy I cannot understand how anyone can rate the class poorly the prof ?s ok not great he spends way too much time on useless math equations which are useless and are not on the midterm or final. If you just study the practice exams and the uderstand the main models the class is very easy.
USELESS PROF, NEVER REPLY EMAILS AND TEACH USELESS STUFF IN LECTURE...MIDTERM IS EZ BUT FINAL IS A LITTLE BIT MORE DIFFICULT.. TA WAS NOT VERY GOOD AS WELL....AVOID THIS BORING CLASS....BUNCH OF GRAPHS AND SYMBOLS...
If you like to pay to selfstudy, you can take his class. You don't need to go to his lecture at all to do well. His notes are messy which I think Nobody can really read them. All you can do is to study the textbook.Never post exam answers, so you don't know how to improve your answers in the next exam. TA deduct 1 or 2 marks because stupid reason
Take this class. Aced it. Midterm easy. Final easier. Start your term paper early. About ten pages. Class very interesting. Not a single boring moment.
I thought he was a great prof for this particular course. He gives you the ability to research something that's interesting to you, and grants a lot of independence. He won't spoon feed you, you are required to actually think for yourself.
Note: my class only had 9 students. The format of this class was different than any I've ever had before, and that made it difficult to know what was expected. He often used a lot of complicated math (and not always well explained), but you only needed to understand the premises and conclusions of the models. Very willing to help out of class.
Actually not hard but like short essays. Read the textbook! his lecture is boring.
This class requires you to write an at least 20 pages long research paper. In order to get a high grade even if your English is poor, you have to talk to him after class at least once a week. He is very helpful and will provide many materials and resources for you to make your writing easier. His lecture is pretty confusing tho.
Horrible. His lectures and the assigned readings were not coordinated with the syllabus, and his final exam asked questions that covered concepts that were not very related to any of the material that he or the TA indicated to us that we needed to know. I read these reviews and decided to take the class anyway... really wish I hadn't.
Boring lecture
Stephen is understanding, caring and quite funny at times. He helps you out with your research literally any time you need. Sometimes he speaks too fast and he has croaky voice so it's hard to follow but that' ok. If you are relatively good at research, you should definitely take this course with him. you will learn a lot from him.
Lovely teacher!
He is actually a good professor. He wants the student to ask questions from him. Helpful when you attend the office hour. Does a lot of derivations in the class but noting of that comes in the exams(he just want to make things clear ) the exam only test you the lecture notes knowledge Easier than most the upper level econ
Can't understand him and his writing most of the time. Not very nice.
Super available via email for questions and tries to make the class interesting. There are lots of questions available on his website to practice and if you do them all you'll succeed in the class. Probably one of the most high tech profs when moving online. Wants you to do well but you just need to put in some work for it. Overall great prof!!
I think alot of his negative reviews are older classes maybe he was a bit more dry back then but taking him in covid times has been pretty good. Pretty caring, answers emails really fast, very fair and very knowledgeable. Tests are sorta hard but if you really understand the theory / do a lot of the reading + extra reading you'll be fine. A+
Hope for a good TA, read his lecture notes a lot. The exam structure is horrendous. His lectures spend way too much time on a bunch of irrelevant math and breezes through the actual models, theories, etc. Overall Id avoid him but if you work super super hard you can do well in the class.
Econ 450 with Stephen was a great experience. While the class may seem intimidating at first, his marking is generous as long as you follow the clear expectations and guidelines he presents throughout the semester. If you are a good writer with a mind for economics, you will succeed. He has a wealth of knowledge that he readily shares if asked.
I love this guy because I got A+!
Spent a lot of time on unnecessary calculus that wasn't used for midterms. Diagrams in class were very unclear and often times blurry. TA marking is super subjective. Best way to prepare is reading through his theory notes on canvas, rather than going to lectures. Midterm averages were around 30%
