Anxious to dispel myths, but fails to acknowledge his own bias in doing so. A fun lecturer. Expects more information in essays than is possible following his format.
Expects too much from papers. Lectures are interesting but not much substance is there. He gets personal and is hard to communicate with.
Very exciting class, he always kept your attention and was very humorous! He is extremely knowledgeable about history and was a great dresser.
Great!!! Very entertaining, informative, clear. Pay attention; get good grade. If papers too hard; not reading with objective of paper in mind. If test too hard; don't know your stuff as well as you think you do!!
The tests were hard, but he was a very good instructor! Highly recommended!
This is the best teacher in the department. You learn more and come away from the class with knowledge. I would have taken everyone of my classes from him if I could have.
good man
One of the best professors I have ever had I had to take his class for gen ed I enjoyed it so much I considered changing my major from Business to History. The time flys buy in his class I. I missed it when the semester ended.
Dr Francis is tough to please - he likes to look for the negative. I had many incredible frustrating moments in his class, but the lectures were almost enough fun to make up for it
****in awesome man. totally the best teacher ever yo. i love this guy.
He makes you love history! He should have been a stand up comedian or some kind of entertainer. I took his class two years ago and to this day he is by far my favorite professor yet. HIGHLY reccomend, just be prepared to learn and take great notes. The class is fun, not easy, but very rewarding.
He is an evil man who is only concerned with himself. He is going to the next Satan! I wish I had never taken the class. I love history and he takes all of the fun out of it. If you are a history major and need a europe class take another europe class that is not taught by Dr Francis.
He is informative without being boring, funny without being cheezy, and an all around good teacher. Beware though, this class is very hard... and it will require that you acually, you know... uh... show up.
Well what can I say...he is entertaining, enthusiastic, knowledgable, analytical, and he loves his history.I wouldn't recommend his class if you plan on kicking back and relaxing. This is a class for people who want to learn, and actually realize this is college and not high school.
Amazing teacher....exciting. Brought history alive. His lectures are everything you need for the exams. Really fun teacher...
Dr. Francis is amazing. He is always willing to discuss the topics in more depth after class, and provides an animated lecture during classes. History is fun in this class, which can be a difficult task for lesser Professors. I highly recommend this class, but be prepared to work hard!!
Good teacher, very knowledgable and certainly passionate about what he teaches. As he would say "an intriguing individual".
Awesome teacher! He actually cares if you are passing or not even though he has a lot of students!Always makes you want to learn more about the past and how it effects you!
He is extrememly caring & patient. Concerned about his students, willing to talk at length. Not easy, he pushes students so they are prepared for further study. He wants students to suceed! Those who can't see this are just looking for an easy no work class. Very entertaining, knows his subject well
This guy is an awsome teacher. He is so funny and makes you learn about history. I would so take another class from him. He wins a big reward in my book. But you will have to work...
He made me actually like history! i looked forward to his lectures! they were so entertaining and he is so funny! You do have to work though, you have to be there for the lectures to take notes because that is the only thing on the tests are things from your notes. You dont even need the book.

an amazing tracher. I was never interested in history before I took his class. He makes history interesting and I learned a lot. I would recommend him to anyton taking history

I've never seen a teacher this excited to teach. He actually holds my attention through the whole class. I've never had a more fun teacher. He seems to care about his students, and he actually tries to get to know you even though my class has about 60-7

Best teacher ever!!!! He is a little difficult but trust me if you don't take him you are missing out!
He is my favorite history teacher. He makes the class interesting and enjoyable. You won't be bored in his class. I highly recommend him for a 1700 class.
Great teacher, you can really tell he loves his subject. He becomes very annimated during her lectures--you'll never fall asleep. He usually has a lot of tests, readings and papers but you'll feel pretty prepared to do them. I highly recommend.
Great teacher, you can really tell he loves his subject. He becomes very annimated during her lectures--you'll never fall asleep. He usually has a lot of tests, readings and papers but you'll feel pretty prepared to do them. I highly recommend.
this man is THE man!
Makes the class exciting. Very animated, and hilarious if you pay attention.
Francis is a freakin stud. Just go to class every day and pay attention and you will do fine. No textbook which is way nice for history. You just have to read a few novels but novels are fun right?
He is a very good teacher but, there are a lot of assignements. The tests are difficult.
He is the MOST AMAZING PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!!! HIS CLASS WAS THE BEST! I'll be honesty i don't like history, but he made it so clear, funny, and easier to understand! You do take alot of notes, but his class was my favorite! I wish he taought other classes than just history, class he is the best teacher ANYONE COULD GET!!!!
so history right, not all that great of thing for most of us.. but while taking this class ALL I SAY NOW IS I LOVE HISTORY, I LOVE DR. FRANCIS!! I always look forward to going to class, and trust me you won't get lost, you will be engaged. there is no way to not love this man! I'm tellin ya!
Francis is the best history teacher you could possibly get. There is no textbook, just lectures so dont miss any days. there is a weekly journal but they are easy. Tests arent too bad, just study for them for like 20 minutes and youre good to go. He makes the class very fun and interesting and even people who hate history love his class.
pretty hard but best lecturing prof in history department
I have had Dr. Francis for several classes. I enjoy his teaching style. He does not have an official text book, but plan on reading about 5 books per semester and writing a paper on all of them. You can also plan on 4 tests and one map quiz. He is more than willing to help with papers if you ask for it. Take notes.
He was an awesome teacher. I really enjoyed his class. His assignments were generally easy and everything including tests and assignments were laid out in a schedule which he stuck to. His class sessions were hilarious! But at the same time I learned tons. He has been my favorite professor so far in my college experience (2 semesters).
Dr. Francis is definately the best History Professor here at Weber State. His lectures are crystal clear and he tests on those same lectures so therefore his tests are pretty easy, as long as you go to class. And the info he teaches stays in your mind and is not forgetable. Way nice.
FAVORITE PROFESS0R EVER! I am a history major and if I could take all classes with Dr. Francis I would. He is very entertaining and applies history to us today. He helps you to understand significance and knows the subject SO well. He is pretty hard, a lot of reading and writing, but TOTALLY worth it. Best lecturer I could ever ask for.
Francis is an amazing professor. VERY ENTERTAINING and extremely clear on what to put in your notes. He is by far the best history professor I have had thus far. A GREAT EXPERIENCE and one Im not easily going to forget!!! Take him, you won't regret it.
Great history professor who makes class worth attending. His lectures were interesting. You can tell he really enjoys teaching. However, it wasn't an easy "A". Lots of reading and writing essays, but he graded fairly easily. Tests were average, not too easy and not too hard. He doesn't even use a textbook which was great. Attend class all the time!
Dr. Francis is one of the best professors at Weber State University. His classes can at times be difficult, but its quality education when you come to Dr. Francis. He is brilliant and hilarious! You will want to come to class. :)
Francis is hands down the best prof in the Dept. He assigns a lot of papers but will help you edit them before they are due and ensure you get good grades. If you are thinking of grad school he will prepare you. And I cant help it... he is hot :)
His class is not a history class as much as it is a theology class you do alot of reading from websites on the texts for hindu and buddhism.
Way to detailed for a general class. Quickly turned into a theology course on Hindu and Buddhism.
He seems like a great professor, but his class is WAY to much work. A nearly impossible map test (got 40 percent studied alot) 5 tests, and 15 pretty hard short essays. In all honesty this is the hardest class ive ever taken, expecting a D+ even though i put way more effort in this class than the pychology class i got a B+ in... worst grd ever gt
Crazy teacher. You have to do alot of reading and papers. A lot of talk about religion. I did not love this class. His stale jokes get on my nerves sometimes.
I took this class online. He is very unprofessional and his test are difficult. The assignments are tedious and the outline of his class is not organized very well. Do not take him
I have taken almost every class that he offers and the only thing I?m sad about graduating is that I can?t take more from him. He does require a lot of reading and writing along with general tests(but if you attend class and take notes, he covers everything that will be on the test). I don?t suggest taking him unless you actually LOVE history but h
His lectures can be entertaining sometimes but he yells a lot to get your attention. His grading is inconsistent and seems to be based on his mood. He grades extremely hard no matter how much work you put into something don't expect the higher grade. LOTS of reading and LOTS of papers. Class gave me anxiety all semester and I love history.
Extremely hard grader. After every paper or test he would come in to class and tell us how horrible we did and just slam our work. I got tired of busting my butt for a teacher that wouldn't recognize hard work. Very stressful class.
Dr. Francis is pretty crazy. I still don't know if I love him or hate him. He's funny and sarcastic which makes class fun and he tells you all the important stuff (which I loved) but I don't really like how he runs his class. You have a short essay due Monday before class from a reading...not fun. Then the other days are lectures. Knows his stuff.
My favorite professor at Weber. Went into class with little history knowledge, came out with a lot more. Lectures are very entertaining and insightful.
He is a completely hard grader and his grading has no rhyme or reason to it. He'll tell you what he wants, then mark you down because it isn't good enough. He is a fun lecturer, but goes off on tangents too often, which is bad if the tests are based on the lectures. He is very anal about having things done his way. I ended up dropping the class.
I took as many of Dr. Francis' classes as I could fit in my schedule and I definitely miss his lectures now that I've graduated! His expectations are high for his students, but he lets you know exactly what he's looking for when grading tests and essays. Expect lots of primary source reading and lots of laughs during his entertaining lectures!
Took the class online. Finished the class in three weeks. Easy and do it at your own pace. One page paper per section and he gives you the questions to the quizzes/tests before the test.
Fantastic online class! The work was easy to keep up with, and I loved the assignments and readings. Although I'm a history major I think even those who weren't into history will find it easy and intersting! I'll take all his classes online that I can. Tests were easy because he tells you whats on them!
Great teacher. Super funny but also challenging.
take. this. class. he is an outstanding professor and really knows what he is talking about. Take good notes and do the readings and you will do fine. He is my favorite professor I have ever had. Sign up! Don't hesitate!
Took his online class. Wasn't exactly what I was expecting but it was still a good class. Fair grader and tests are pretty easy if you read the chapters. He gives you the subjects covered in the tests. Would take another class from him.
If you are interested in working hard and laughing your butt off while learning then take ANY of his classes. If you are looking for a lazy "A" then don't bother! He gives tons of help if needed and if you are in class to actually learn then you will have a great experience! Also super hot in a dorky-but-brilliant way!
I am a junior in college and Professor Francis is one of my favorite professors of all time. He asked questions that I had never even asked myself before, and he is very knowledgable and hilarious. If your like me, and think college is about expanding your mind and perceptions about what life is and what you are going to create in the world, take this class.
Took his online class. It was a lot of work, but as long as you stay on top of the deadlines, and manage your time you will be ok. Test are easy of you do the study guide and study. I really enjoyed his class.
Difficult, yet rewarding. Dr. Francis takes an unorthodox approach to teaching and IT PAYS OFF. Awesome course, awesome teacher. Take this class and you won't regret it.
He's a hard grader, but very worth it. His lectures are incredibly interesting, and he really knows his stuff. Classes flew by, and I really learned a lot. I highly recommend taking advantage of his offer to look over papers prior to handing them in. He's very willing to help. I can't wait to take another class from him!
Read his text books, attend class, and know your turabian and you'll do fine.
I loved the setup of this online course. It was nice to be able to work ahead. Take any class you can from him, he's awesome!
Fantastic professor, I have taken four classes from him (2 online, 2 in person) loved all four. They weren't easy, but the work is worth it. Grading is fair, but he expects results and good writing on the papers. Comments in here that he is inconsistent in his grading must be from people who don't know how to write and don't ask for help either.
This was the perfect example of an online class. Not too much work, but a lot of learning. Awesome professor with easy tests who cares more about your understanding of the material than doing a bunch of busy work.
I took this class online Wonderful professor very fair grader wonderful class. Text book a must!!! 15 papers 300 words minimum 5 test. Take advantage of this class you will learn a lot. Wonderful class I will take another class from Dr Francis in a heartbeat .Wonderful wonderful professor lots of readying.
This is the second course I've taken from Dr. Francis. Trust me, he's good at what he does; he's very easily the best history professor in the department. I'm signed up for two of his other courses. Why can't all professors be this animated, enthusiastic, challenging and ridiculously FUN? Run, run, run! Go, go! Go sign up for his course now!
This is the fourth class I've taken from this professor. He is one of the very best in the department. He is brilliant and hilarious!!!
Dr. Francis is funny and he really knows his stuff. Be prepared to do the online readings and show up, and you can succeed in his course and learn a lot. He is always willing to help, but be sure to know your Chicago Style. I highly recommend his classes if you want to learn and have fun
I took this course not having a clue as to how it would work or how it would be taught. But! It was absolutely incredible. Go to class and pay attention to the lectures, take notes--all that jazz. This professor is tough, and he'll make you work for your grade. Let me just tell you, it's worth it. Take his courses if you want to be challenged.
This course was fantastic. The professor is fantastic. All the courses that are taught by him? You should take them. He is brilliant, witty and hilarious. Here's what you need to know: take LOTS of notes, attend the lectures and put some thought into your papers. Also, KNOW YOUR TURABIAN. Do all these things and you'll be fine.
This was an experimental course, but happened to be one of the best I've ever taken. This professor clarifies confusing concepts and is a fair grader. There are times when his classes get tough, but they are ALWAYS rewarding. Take notes, lots of notes, and you'll succeed in his courses. Excellent professor, excellent at his profession.
I took the online class. You have to read this huge book (not traditional textbook, thank god). His assignments are pretty easy, just make sure you responses are 300 WORDS! He does offer some extra credit and he is an easy grader. He offers a great test study guide (most if not all questions are on the test). Do your homework and you are just fine.
This was a great class. You will need the textbook but the good news is that it's actually a very interesting book to read. Homework is reasonable and the Instructor lets you work ahead and finish the class early. Very easy exams with great study guides. The only reason I didn't get an A was because I didn't turn in all of my assignments.
It was a good class. I just wish that he more of had an answer key to check to see if the study guide answers are correct. Other than that he is a pretty good teacher.
This professor is probably the best on campus, he is hilarious and makes history funny/interesting. I had Tues/Thurs class. You have a Journal due every week. No textbook for the class. Pay attention in class and take notes. Tests are 20 questions only. Honestly you won't regret taking it from him. He should teach every class on this campus.
A very nice and knowledgeable historian. He certainly knows his craft. Clear grader who wants his students to succeed. HIST is easy to pass with an A if you show up and do the little amount of work he asks of you. I would recommend him as he is experienced in his field. Be sure you are an expert on Turabian citations!
Had Dr Francis for HIST 1500 Online. He did a great job in dividing up the work through out the school year. He has 6 exams but one is Map quiz with pictures and the other is a Syllabus quiz which is very easy to pass if you read the syllabus. His other 4 exams are from the readings and he gives out study guides to all. No comprehensive final.
Francis is AMAZING. He cares about his students' education, and that's why you have to work hard for a good grade. He wants his students to succeed, but he wants them to learn even more. He is a Turabian NAZI, but you definitely learn from him. He forces you to think and come to your own conclusions like an actual historian. 10/10 would take again.
Dr. Francis is the best professor I've had at Weber. Take notes in class and don't miss class and you'll pass. Attendance is definitely required there's no textbook or PowerPoint online, but he makes you want to attend class.
I took this class because he sounded like a great teacher. However, he has no textbook, no power points, no study guides/review for the test. All you have to go off of are the notes you take in class. Attendance isn't mandatory but you won't pass if you don't go. Doesn't teach whats on the test/doesn't point out things you need to know.
I have taken 1 online class and 2 in person classes from Dr. Francis. Make sure to read his syllabus and follow the rules. Go to class, do your reading, and if you are taking an upper-division class, get a book on the Turabian/Chicago system and use it, as he expects perfect footnotes. Do all this and you will have a great time.
This course may have been my favorite of the semester. Dr. Francis was an absolute delight to work with, and gave the class a certain energy. He successfully engaged the class in conversation rather than giving long, dull lectures, and his unceasing enthusiasm wore off on all the students.
Prof. Francis did not teach this class. There was nearly no lecturing, demonstrating, or teaching. Day one, he gave out a syllabus with a list of assignments and readings. Every day following that, he would simply ask if there were any questions on the assignments. That's it. But if you missed a class he'd report it and suggest you drop out.
The professor never got a hold of you unless a test/module was due. The readings were very long. There is a discussion for each chapter of and they are just readings. The assignments are spread out throughout the entire semester. 4 exams. 12 assignments. Make sure you get accurate answers on the study guides if you want to pass the exams.
this class really isnt that bad. you have 3 chapters due every 3ish weeks and then an exam with a study guide (exam is study guide) and then you have a little discussion on topics related to the chapter you read that week. this class was fairly easy just read the book, get the right info for the study guide in the book and you will pass.
READ, READ, READ. For a low division class, I have never had to read so much nonsense in my school career. Not to say that history isn't important, however this professor believes that his are the most import. So many assignments and rules.
I have never had a lower division class be this needy. So many assignments and exams but no teaching from the professor. He gives you a textbook and says read it then tests you on specific examples that weren't the big concept of the book. Would not ever take this class again nor would I ever choose to take a class from this guy.
Very little interaction with prof. There are no lectures. Only reading the textbook and an assignment for each unit (1-2 chapters per unit and 3 units due once a month with an exam). This means that every week you are reading somewhere between 20-40 pages. If you don't love reading about history, don't take this course.
Essentially in his online class you get four due dates and your study, assignments and everything is up to you. As long as you get it in before the due date it's good. There's no extra credit. Your 4 exams are worth 50% of your grade. There's little to no contact from your professor. Essentially you teach yourself the class.
Dr. Francis is an amazing Professor, and genuinely cares about his students. You WILL NOT pass the class if you do not come to class every day and take notes. The exams are literally based off of the in class lectures and you have no resources to study other than the notes you took. As long as you do that and study, you will pass this class.
It is an okay class. It would probably be better if in person. Just make sure you study everything. The whole entire textbook plus reading he gives you, the videos and homework too. He takes test questions from everything.
I wouldn't take this class if it isn't required for you, at least not from this professor. It was just super hard to understand the material.
I felt like it was more of an English class than anything. The assessment assignments were like an English paper. Not lenient at all.
The course is challenging but not overly so. As long as you are willing to put in the time to complete the required readings and apply feedback to your essays you will succeed. His lectures are interesting and engaging, and he is able to present the information thoroughly without feeling like it's too much. Highly recommend!
The online class is structured into 4 separate pieces over the course of the semester. You essentially need to have read through the whole textbook by the end of it all in order to pass the exams but there are also study guides to help you out so you know what to look for. Regular assignments consist of developing an argument with online resources.
Dr. Francis gives amazing lectures- interesting and often funny. There are several papers through the semester of varying sizes, but usually relatively easy. Tests are in essay form- but he's a fair grader. He stayed on topic most of the time, but veered off enough to make life interesting. Good for experienced history students.
History 1000 is a class that all history majors have to take. Professor Francis made it so fun and easy. Get the two textbooks he requires, and you'll be fine. Homework is when class starts so that you can discuss it in class. He made me excited to study history and is very knowledgeable about history. I will def take a class from him again!
Francis splits this class up into four due dates. Read the chapter and two writing assignments per unit. Pretty easy; just keep on top of the work. Francis does a good job at sending reminders for exams and due dates. I loved taking this online because it works at your own pace, and the work felt valuable to me.
very helpful on feedback just read the book and you'll get an A very well put together study guide
read the book and you'll get an A one of the better history teachers.
Professor Francis is funny and entertaining as a lecturer. There is a lot of homework but it does not feel tedious, and as long as you stay on top of it, it goes smoothly. Attendance is not required, but you should make an effort to attend consistently because exams are based entirely on lecture material.
His class was good, theres no lectures, four exams but u get a study guide thats accurate to the exams. u have 12 reading response for the whole class, and they can get a little overwhelming if u like have clear cut guides as to what to do. Overall hes clear in his feedback I feel. Book is world in the making vol 1 to 1500. U need it for the tests.
Amazing teacher! Lectures are educational and humorous, he explains things in ways that really click with his students, and is clear and fair with his expectations and grading. Mix of at-home papers and in-person exams, very straightforward if you did the assigned readings and went to class. Loves Turabian so triple check your citations on papers!
This was a great intro course into what being a historian is all about. Dr Francis made it fun and is a great professor. A lot of your final grade is just showing up to class, along with almost weekly small assignments. No exams. Check every space and period in your citation assignments and copy the format exactly from the book and you'll be fine.
His lectures are informational and entertaining. Heavy homework load, but all work seems worth the effort.
Class is not easy, but his lectures are great, and the homework seems intimidating but is doable. Attendance is not mandatory, but missing class may make it tough to do well on exams.
Hey only has a handful of assignments a syllabus quiz a map quiz and 7 quiz and 7 writing assignments. He gives you the questions for the quizzes before hand.
There was no contact between the professor and me and he essentially gives you a book and learn it yourself.
Great professor, very clear grading rubric.
The writing prompts never made any sense at all. Prof F's justification for taking off points on assignments is odd and the grading feels inconsistent in quality too. I find it weird that, as an English major, I get all As in my English classes, but according to him, I get points taken off because he didn't like the way I wrote my thesis statement.
Absolutely LOVED Dr. Francis, his lectures are fantastic! You have to attend class because the only study tool for tests are the notes you take. There were 5 papers, 3 longer ones and 2 shorter that you have to read books for. There are 3 tests. If you pay attention and think beyond just the facts it is easy to do well.
This is a boring but required class for history majors and Dr. Francis makes it fun and worth it. He teaches how to do history at Weber State and sets you up for success in your major. There is one assignment per week, they were very simple and didn't take long.
Overall good class. All you do is read two chapters and take a quiz and write a paper based off it. Two assignments every other week. Despite taking it online you still have to take it in person at the testing center. He doesn't make exceptions unless you live outside a 50 mile radius, or for certain circumstances.
For an Online course this was a essentially a, "here is the book, a few online articles, and learn on your own" course. The quizzes were as one might expect. The essay papers however were brutal. If your not an expert in writing or creating a historical thesis you will do poorly.
7 quizzes with study guides for each. If you study the guides you will get a good grade. Some of the quiz questions were worded differently & confused me, so I didnt do great on a couple of those. The 7 thesis papers I passed. The thesis papers weren't super hard but werent super easy. make sure you are reading instructions on the papers carefully
Prof F has a structured system, but if you engage with it, it works well. The textbook is essential, and Unstuck study can help with study prep. Stay focused, and you'll learn a lot.
Francis really is quite an easy professor. There is one 10 question quiz every 2 weeks which he gives you a study guide beforehand and it's is basically word for word the test questions. The content is straight from the book but since you know the questions being asked you can bypass the reading and use Google.
A few quizzes with a study guide that was straightforward and word for word. There is a writing every 2 weeks which is actually quite easy. It's only 300 words and he's a kind grader. He tells u exactly what to write and how to do it, can't be more straightforward than that. You don't need to be a master writer, you just have to read the directions
His classes are easy to follow; they're very orderly and low-maintenance. He gives great feedback and makes the course material interesting.
-Engaging lectures, really brings history to life -Recognizes that we all have baggage we bring to history, but does not push an agenda -He is intelligent and very competent as a professor -HIST 4280 was great! So fascinating. Lots of essays, you really gotta keep up with the reading, but it's all so fascinating that it's worth it.
